Oh deae god no. Leave those l33t players in Balefire’s prison. Please, do not unleash them into the rest of the dungeons.
this is a good point actually….
Sorry to burst your bubble, but we’re already doing other dungeons. I run Arah with my guard all the time and have Dungeon Master. My warrior is specifically set up for CoF right now, but when I do run him elsewhere, I re-trait and have different gear.
Also, maybe you should look up some vids of DPSers in other dungeons. Almost every dungeon can be optimized in this fashion.

i think cof need to fix as well. i got warrior and mesmer as well. the "zerker party "its so ridiculous and need to be stop.
last time i join . my armor and weapon are all PPcri. only my runes its not.. they kick me out of party without saying a word..
Haha. “Shut them down for not letting me join because I didn’t have the right equipment!”
Runes can add a lot more dps.
Seriously guys. It’s not hard to find a non war/mes group. I do on my guardian every single day, easily.
Sure, I think the dungeon should be longer and harder. But blaming people for making zerker groups is not the issue. They’re just being efficient. I do these runs with my warrior. They go so much faster than regular groups do, especially for doing multiple runs.
I also run at least once everyday on my guard and NEVER have an issue finding a group.
Tbh I see more mixed groups on LFG.com than war/mes groups.
Yes. Until one looks at the CoF listings. There it is all CoF p1 warriors and 1 mesmer, or CoF p2, warriors and guardians.
They need to make the encounters rougher, with some anti mobility effects and a few mobs that apply confusion. And for CoF p2, they need to fix it so you can’t skip the entire dungeon.
Completely wrong. If you can’t find a non war/mes group you’re doing something wrong.
this “fear” of PvP (even if it’s just a little minigame which makes a lot of fun) is tiring
Didn’t see anyone mention fear. It’s called different tastes.
Like someone above mentioned above he plays FPS’s for his PvP. I am the same, I play FPS’s and used to tournament with a couple fighting games. I prefer my RPG’s to be more laid back, play out stories and progress my character. There’s really no fear involved, just not much interest.
Very nice! Grats!
pro tip don’t play with guild groups unless its yours. Looks at guild tags and if you see 3+ ppl from same guild find another group
Anyone who does this also misses out on awesome guild groups looking for +1 that clear L48 in as quick a time as possible with zero wipes. I know my guild does this, and we certainly don’t kick at the end.
Very true. I pug multiple times every single day because my guild is small and they don’t like dungeons as much as I. I’ve played with many guild groups and I often like them more. They’re generally more organized and have a little more fun.
At this point I’ve pugged hundreds of dungeons and I’ve never been kicked. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen. I’m saying it is rare. You can minimize your chances of being kicked by being skillful, fast and most of all – not being an a**. Meaning, don’t rage if people mess up, don’t constantly boss people around. The people I see on this board that say they’ve been kicked lots of times always sound like they’re jerks in dungeons.
Sure, there are jerks out there that will kick you for nothing or to sell a spot. But it’s rare enough to not base your decisions in it.

Speed running happens in virtually every video game. It’s been around for a very long time. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it wrong. Many gamers like speed and efficiency. Believe it or not, that is a big part of the game.
You’re disregarding valid strategies and saying they’re wrong, while saying the only true strategy is to have someone stand there and take all the hits. Maybe you haven’t played many dungeons in the game, but you can’t tank like it’s WoW.
OP and Avylin have a very self centered view on dungeoning. If it’s not done the way you want it, then it’s wrong. No one here is telling you you’re playing wrong. You just have a different playstyle, and that’s fine. Now get off your high horse, do some dungeons with like-minded people and stop telling everyone else they’re doing it wrong.
Nice kill, grats!
I’m willing to run new players through p3 as I’ve done it countless times now. Just whisper me in game. I have my dungeon master, but I don’t do enough of the other paths to lead an expedition.
Karka armor. Set of armor made from the shell of a champion Karka by a master craftsman.
Maybe this can be a second chance to do the Karka event right. With a sweet chest at the end!!!!! I can feel the precursors dropping in price already!!!
At least it’s sellable. I don’t see people complaining that certain expensive items don’t drop. Things like Commander’s Compendium, Icy Runestones, T3 Cultural etc.
You don’t even have a chance to get these items for free by random chance. You have to buy them. Sure they’re a flat rate, but the people in this thread know they want a jetpack and right now it’s about the same price as these items.
You have 2 weeks to try to get one with RNG, if you don’t get it you have the option to buy.
lol
you cant compare this in any way to Tier3 Armor / icy runestones /commander tag
because we know that these things can always be bought and always have the same price
but the backpack may rise to several hundred golds if it can not be found ever again after this dungeon…
You can buy the jetpack right now for a similar price to all those other items. Even when the price goes up, it’s still something to work for. People in this thread are saying there is no progression toward getting the jetpack, but there is, it’s sellable.
Sure people down who haven’t started the game yet may not have a chance to get this item in the future. But everyone in this thread can get it.

Experienced players and newbs both need to communicate.
If you’re a pro and don’t want to explain the dungeon as you go, note it in the lfg. There are pros for every dungeon that run with new people from the lfg site all the time, most are cool with explanations. In fact many pros like it. I personally like going with new people, at least sometimes there are surprises. Full pro runs are mechanical and fast.
If you are new to a dungeon just say it when you get in. As long as there wasn’t a prerequisite for NO NOOBZ!!!, then everyone is probably cool with it. Then they can warn about trouble ahead before you run straight into it.
I personally don’t care if everyone has watched YouTube vids. Just don’t try to fake like you know what’s going on, because that’s when things usually go wrong. Everyone assumes everyone knows the drill, then it turns out later someone doesn’t know what to do. Then it’s too late because you’re already knee deep.
Honestly…LFG people that want to it it your way. When you do 30+ runs like me, to get a jetpack drop, you do not want to spend 1-2hrs inside that place every run. If you only do it 1-5 times just for fun, then you might want to play out every single bit of it. I don’t understand people complaining about people who want to farm for a certain item. If you don’t want to do it that way just go with a group that’s not farming!
This.
LFG that you’re not doing a farm run. You’ll find like-minded people, just look at this thread.
People that really want the jetpack want quick easy runs. Also, believe or not, some people like speed runs. They like to challenge themselves to be as efficient and fast as absolutely possible. We’re doing this dungeon in less than 30 minutes easily with zerker runs, and I’m personally still having fun.
I’m pretty sure Cleric’s backpiece doesn’t exist.
I suspect that the jetpack will come down in price as more people start speed running the dungeon and as more people find out about these rare rewards, such as myself.
I didn’t know about the jetpack until this post. I visit the forum often and keep myself relatively informed, however I haven’t visited this subforum much. I’m sure there are more like myself that will find out about this in the next few days and begin spamming the dungeon. I’ve done it 3 times just to help friends, but with this information I’ll now be speed running it as much as possible until it’s gone. The dungeon seems easy enough I imagine zerk runs could clear it with good time.
Are there any other very rare exclusive items that drop in the dungeon?
Not true. The Jetpack is a random drop from this dungeon. This dungeon will be gone on the 12th. So its only going to skyrocket as soon as the 12th rolls around. I think each dungeon in going to have its own special drop. So if you really want it, you better get it now… because 100g is the low end of what its going to cost in the future.
That’s what I’m saying. I think the price will drop as we near the cut off date for the dungeon. Then of course the price will go up after that.
They are a long term investment only. Except for the people that already bought very cheap at the right time and sold a week later for some nice cash. These skins will stay low until at least October now. Then once people see they aren’t coming back they should slowly go up. Good returns may not come for over a year due to saturation right now, practically everyone playing the game right now has the skins they want. The high percentage of buys right now are investors, not people that want skins.
This market will probably be stagnant for a while. Although now is probably a decent time to get in if you want to be in for the long haul. I’m talking years if you want a good return, but if you play the TP often, it’s better to do something else with your gold.

What do you mean the Charr aren’t flame legion? The molten alliance is an alliance between the dredge and the flame legion. That is their whole identity, otherwise where is the flame coming from in the “Flame and Frost”.
Ah, I guess I was thinking of it as whole new faction and not an alliance.
I would like to think the Dredge potion at least works against the Dredge. The Charr aren’t Flame Legion though.
I would like to hear an answer for this as well.
In other games I’ve played where the host leaves, the game is programmed to switch to another player and keep the instance. Some will auto choose a host based on connection quality in the first place, you may not even know who the host is. Even of there is loading time for this process it would be much better than the current situation.

I’ve never crunched the numbers myself, but I constantly read the same and am inclined to believe it. However, if you’re not attacking with your staff it really won’t make much of a difference.
I run hammer or GS/staff usually. Hammer is knight (although I’m toying with switchjng it to zerker), GS is zerker and staff is knight. I use staff mostly for Empower and to clear conditions as I have Superior Sigil of Generosity on it. I keep it as knight simply because I usually switch to it if I need to break melee (I melee almost everything), so I figure the extra tankiness is good.
Yes, of course this is all assuming you have a team good enough in CoF for example to take down slave driver quickly. I usually go in CoF with pugs that take 7 mins to kill slave driver while I’m tanking the whole time. You can’t just learn the game and dodge your way through all the hits, I do the dodging, AS WELL as use PVT.
I run 4 war/1 mes speed runs for CoF 1 with my warrior. We down the slave driver in 7-12 seconds. If I do the same run with my zerk guardian, the slave driver takes much longer due to pugs not being dps geared, this is the only time anyone goes down.
I also sometimes lfg zerker ANYTHING with my zerker guard for CoF 1. We can generally kill the slave driver in 15 seconds or under. CoF is the ultimate path for running zerker gear because everything can be bursted so fast. Now I do run Knight armor/zerk trinkets for Arah to be able to take a couple more hits. But I know guards that run it just fine in full zerk.
Arah path 4 is another example where high dps is needed. I was at Simin with a pug the other day. For the life of us we could not out dps her regen. After so long we were wondering what gear each other was wearing. Turned out I was the only one with a zerker set. Another guard had only a FULL set of giver’s gear. We simply couldn’t beat her.
PVT is fine, that’s your playstyle. If it works for you then great. But you shouldn’t dismiss zerker guards as a joke.

What you paid for the skin and what you feel it is worth is subjective and irrelevant.
This is how skins work in this game. After you use the skin it is no longer just a skin, it is an item. You need transmutation stones/crystals to switch skins between items. I believe you get transmutation stones from doing story quests, I have over 100 and I’ve never bought one. The crystals are more rare, I have about 10 but I’m not sure where they all came from. I know I’ve gotten some from my daily.
I agree however, the description could be worded better.
(edited by laharl.8435)
Just keep practicing in regular groups until you get full zerk. Once you have full zerk you should have the run memorized pretty well. Do like Phira says, you don’t need blink even though most mesmers are using it.
Once you start the speed runs, have a tough skin. There are tons of cool people that are happy with 6-7 min runs. Not everyone is some jerk elitist, they just want guaranteed very fast runs. But there are also groups that demand everything be done perfect, and you will get booted for repeated mess ups, not using feedback, badly timed TW etc. Just hop right back in with another group and do better.
I play warrior, so my job is easy. Most of the real work is rested on the mesmer. Trust me, very few of the people doing these runs are pro, myself included. It’s a very quick easy run. But the correct skills with correct timing will make the difference for marathon sessions, and your group will respect you for it.

Glad that they added fixes for all that. Its not a big deal that you can still get behind the Jade Maw, but at least you have to fight your way there now first.
The Svanir Shaman safe spot was indeed kinda silly, glad they fixed that.
You don’t have to fight your way there. It’s basically the exact same.
There are a few other things not mentioned here, including fixes mentioned in the patch notes that are not actually fixed.
I helped some lowbies with their monthly in January. Went in with a level ~30, a couple 60’s and two 80’s. The three lowbies were new players, not alts, and had never even done a fractal. We did scale 1 and 2 to get their monthly. A few difficulties, but we made it. It was also pretty fun.
(edited by laharl.8435)
I did a run with two 30’s, a 60 and two 80’s. The run went pretty well. The level 30’s weren’t word either, they were new players. So there were a few issues with them not taking advantage of dodging and such, but overall the run went pretty well.
There will always be people that demand stupid things. Last night on gw2lfg I saw a post for fractal 8, yes 8, that stated PROS ONLY, NO NECRO, RANGER. THIEF OR ENGI!!! There are a lot of people playing this game, so you’re bound to run into ignorant people. I recommend starting your own group and note in the lfg that low level characters are welcome.
Did they really make it so you can’t lure the dredge themselves out of the room? Now we’ll actually have to do what laharl above describes, which is absurdly dangerous with pubs. Sucks a lot, but oh well.
Well, odds are a less known exploit with this fight will now become popular until patched. Although I’m not entirely sure how well that one works anymore.
The loot is actually pretty good in that fractal.
I haven’t played this fractal since the update, but this shouldn’t be a problem. Fight Rabsovich by the door the cart will bust through. You’ll have to kill the first group of adds, but after that you should have just the boss and his vet spawn to contend with as long as you don’t aggro the adds by the cart.
I am not poor, I just dun like how ppl took advantages of limited items by up marking it.
Wow, all that gold came from farming or bought with real money! Impressive!
It is a very easy dungeon. But it’s meant for everyone to be able to complete. I felt the difficulty was in line with most story dungeons.
- npc’s tanking inside Molten Protectors shield (try launch/knock and they just run back in).
Sometimes I was able to pull them out of the circle. But with hammer guardian I could just knockback, then stun once they were out.
Try lowering your resolution for the vid.
I’ve been reading this thread since it started, very entertaining read. Here’s the the thing. Everyone can see your argument has merit, but in cases like this you need a full, uncut vid. That’s just how it works. Strifey made another vid to refute your claims that his setup would be slower post-patch, he succeeded. He has the fastest time, you saying that your run was inefficient isn’t going to change that. You need proof, not words.
Also, anyone in the know, knows this isn’t a debate about the viability of thieves/warriors/whatever. It’s just who can do it faster, good ‘ol fun. Most speed run groups I end up with don’t mind thieves in there. Sometimes we’ve even specifically recruited a thief if a warrior drops out.
I keep a full set of each. I generally run knight armor/zerker trinkets for most dungeons. For easy dungeons and open world I wear full zerker.
It’s nice to just have two full set as they are both interchangeable with the build.
The reasonable prices have been gone for weeks.
I think this will be another way to acquire the “already” new flame/Dredge skins.
You will get nothing else form the dung other then something new to play.
They won’t reward you with fused weapon skins, but there will be a dungeon reward.
Well, laharl does arah on a guardian last I recall, and it’s true that on a guardian AH built with soldier rune it doesn’t hurt all that badly. My mes and war can’t really stay all that much inside that poison field unless the group has a lot of constant group cond removal.
Perception on whether something is a threat or barely tickling can change a lot depending on your build or group composition.
Also explains why he may have not realized the nature of the hunter’s attack, if he runs soldier’s runes every single shout also acts as cond removal so a “stun breaker” shout will still remove his immobilize.
It definitely helps if other people are healing and removing conditions from you. But yes, I should have stated I run guardian, so my build may be tailored well for this fight. I run Knight armor/Zerker trinkets with Soldier rune set.
Actually, facetanking Crusher is the easiest legit way to do this fight. You generally have to kill Crusher first, if you kill Hunter first he often resses. I generally melee Crusher to keep aggro on me and everyone else stays at range. The poison does minimal damage and he has a long tell for his melee OHK hit. Just dodge or walk to the other side of him when you see the tell. You need stun breaks in case the Hunter has you stunned.
We do have an Alpha program where players are invited to test things before they go live.
Where do I apply? I can handle NDAs and the like, but man, I wish I could get feedback out on some of these dungeon setups before they go live so that maybe issues can be caught sooner.
I have tested for a few other games in this fashion. We called it a candidate server. It basically has the entire game but gets update content early. There are hotkey cheats and debugs to simulate many different possibilities. You can often reset your own level, class and skills on a whim.
There is also most likely a subsection in this forum for these testers that only they and the devs have access to. One might be surprised how many ideas often come from testers themselves.
In 2 of the 3 games I’ve done this for, my name was taken from the forum. There was never an application. In these particular games I became very knowledgeable of the mechanics and filled out many bug reports.
I’m not sure if that’s exactly how it works here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were similar. You’re best bet is to consistently make detailed bug reports. Having a positive demeanor will never hurt one’s cause either.
I do most dungeon content with my guardian. I have a full zerker set and full knight set. I generally run knights armor/weps with zerker trinkets for dungeons. But if the need arises I can go with more toughness or more dps.
If there’s a pvt guard I my group, I switch to full zerk. Plus I run full zerk for cake dungeons like CoF 1. Full zerk for open world PvE as well.
Just because there are a lot of bad players running full zerk doesn’t mean it isn’t viable. It’s just not for everyone, and some classes have a little more leniency with it.
When every battle in a dungeon comes down to a battle of attrition it’s just tiring. I like having a dps focused (not necessarily zerk) party for any dungeon in the game.
I don’t believe running past enemies to be exploiting. If you’re just trying to get tokens, why kill everything in the instance. Just like in open world, if you’re just going for map completion, why kill everything you see? Once you try Arah, you’ll think “No way in hades am I killing everything here!”.
My advice to you would be to let the group know you are new to the dungeon. Most groups won’t have a problem with it as long as there wasn’t a “be experienced” prerequisite.
Just the other day I ran CoF 1 and it turned out we had a new guy. He didn’t say anything though. He just ran along with us, it was assumed he knew the run. However, when we got to the gate controller he didn’t know he was supposed to stay in a dome. It caused one person to die inside their dome and almost got me killed at the gate control. So we had to run away and start that part over.
Now, I still didn’t kick. Personally it takes a lot for me to kick someone. We explained it and then made it through fine. If he had just told us he was new, we could have explained before we got there and avoided the fiasco.
I REALLY don’t know how people think juggernaut looks like anything other than a hammer. It makes me wonder if you all have it on a charr/norn and it hasnt been resized right. It looks freaking amazing on my human guard.
It’s the head, not the character scale size. You have to admit, it’s very un-hammer-like. When has anyone ever seen a hammer that looks like that.
I personally like the look of it. But I can easily see how people think it doesn’t look like a hammer.
Sorrow’s Embrace and Arah both offer Knight’s gear. SE p1 or Arah p3 are your easiest paths for token farming.
Pixelpumpkin, the offer is for Tony to teach you the explorable mode, which does have some tricky bits to it. A very generous offer I’d say!
Indeed. I like this trend of people who are good at a dungeon coming here and offering to help new people. I’ve noticed on gw2lfg, that people very often say “experienced only” for TA, second only to Arah it seems.
Some rich guy will probably see it, “Eh, Frostfang, why not?!”, and toss it into his legendary stockpile.
Congrats on a journey well done! Time to start a new one.
Yeah, The Juggernaut could use a little more pizazz like some of the other weapons have got.
I realize it’s not rocket science. Just trying to get some fresh ideas. I’m currently running Sigils of Blood on all my weapons. I’ve just changed up my rune set and I’m looking into new ideas for sigils.
I was mostly wondering if anyone with my build were using any non crit proc sigils such as weapon swap. This doesn’t seem to be the case. I appreciate the ideas.
… you seem to have missed a number of engi’s saying they always find a group quickly.
There’s three people claiming it’s easy for them and two saying otherwise. Those numbers don’t really help with your claim. Please, again, read the thread carefully.
In addition, the only people that have it easy with that class are those that are in guilds or run with steady groups. If you were trying to find randoms, you would see how that goes.
Feel free to make your own group, with the same conditions(place an add specifying the class) and you can see for yourself. But this is something you should have done already since you call people as “doing something wrong”
.
Ah, that’s what you’re doing wrong. All you have to do is join a group that has no prerequisites. I very rarely do lfg for CoF 1, I just join a group that’s already started. Many people already have a couple people in party ready to go, so they just post “lf3m” or whatever. Many people are lazy, they make a post and wait for people to come to their group. They don’t scour the site looking for singles for a crazy popular dungeon like CoF. They know the singles will just see them and join. Now that you know, have fun in CoF!

What are some good sigil combos for and Altruistic Healing / Empowered Might crit build?
