We’ve only seen the very first of the content. Maybe you should at least wait to see all the Dragon Bash content before you bakitten.
What I expect from PuGs? People who have no clue where their own nose is. Guys who pull everything and wipe the group as often as they can. 1-4 people running full MF gear and expect to be carried. Don’t forget the watch-every-video-and-don’t-vote-people. Or people who started the dungeon and try to relog to their lvl. 20 twink at 2% final boss hp. If you don’t care for your time, armor and fun, play with pugs.
Bahahaha!! I’ve seen all of those people. The first time I did Arah p4, with a full team of newbs btw, the instance owner decided switch to his warrior at Simin. Ugh…
How many gems would you guys be willing to pay for a guaranteed ticket?
10 mins
That’s why people are being so freak-show about it. If they can’t get their run done in 7 minutes or less, then something’s wrong.
yep, they better off searching 20 mins for a zerk warrior instead. Probably don’t get the math.
If they were searching for 20 mins then I’d agree but everybody either started out a warrior or rerolled a warrior. Zerk wars are so common now that zerk war only groups take 2 mins or less to fill up. Also no need to be an ahole just b/c you’re a necro. I’m not a warrior either, doesn’t give anyone the right to get snappy.
I wasn’t an ahole nor snappy. I have a war and a guard on max which I can role. Still I don’t get it. I mean it would be necessary if cof p1 would be actually harder to do, but it is easier than anything else in this game.
Not an ahole or snappy, just very uninformed but doesn’t know it.
I just like the name, Mini Colossus. Kind of like the Novice Veterans.
Bankrupt? A little dramatic. Go play the game for a couple hours and recoup your fortune.
4warriors + 1 mesmers can facetank things and never stop attacking
Its not only dps…its more pull mobs there, and keep them where they are while enhancing party damage.
(for example into the void => TW => iLeap => signet; null field etc etc)
I ll tell you more…
As a mesmer the FIRST time you learn a speed run is actually fun and an interesting elaborate strategy……that as everything can be repeated ad nauseam with no risk once you learn it.Run high level fractals (cliffside with archdiviner and even uncategorized kitten golems) with such team composition and tell me how does it work for you. Eagerly waiting for an answer.
He’s talking about CoF1 specifically. Of course that composition isn’t the best everywhere. Just switch in a guardian for one warrior or 2 guards for one warrior and the mesmer and the fights you mention are trivialized at 48 fractals.
I really hope you read this, because I truly want you to try and understand something from a different perspective. I don’t put up with people flaming in my runs, I like to keep them light, but serious. You need to understand that all the things cof runners do aren’t just to save 1 minute of their lives. It’s all about maximizing efficiency. Some people who play this game are serious (us) and some are more casual (you). You need to understand that the reasons you play this game are NOT the same as the reasons we do. I know that for me, the most fun I can have is when trying to be as efficient as possible in my runs. If that means there are certain random people I can’t run with, so be it. I can find new random people who are as serious as I am. If you don’t like the way speedrunners play and you don’t understand/agree with their methods of clearing a dungeon you should start forming your own groups or joining non speed-runs. And pinging gear is just an effect of having done a large number of cof runs. If you’d done the amount of runs we have, and played with the kind of people we have, you’d be asking for gear checks too.
If you want to speed run, why not just say lf zerkers? Any class can do content fast if they are spec’d right. Warriors aren’t the only ones who do stupidly high damage. You might lose 20 seconds per run but so what? 1 minute longer after an hour of running isn’t a problem. And gear checks are insulting. If someone joined a zerker only run, gear checking is just your way of saying you don’t trust that person. The absolute dumbest thing I’ve seen but happens EVERY DAY is when your group kicks a guy with 5k+ achieves, who does the dungeon every day, who almost never makes a mistake, but has the wrong sigil or rune or something, and you replace him with some noob with 1200ish achieves who doesn’t know the dungeon and who downs or dies on almost every encounter.
I do random zerker runs with my guardian. They are never within 20 seconds of the 1 mes/4 war zerker runs I do. Generally a minimum of a minute longer, usually much more. They are also less reliable and times vary wildly between runs.
1 minute longer doesn’t bother me, because I just do one run with my guard. But when I’m doing a bunch of runs it just makes sense to do the 1 mes/4 war runs. They are ALWAYS faster and more reliable and most of them are in it for multiple runs as well.

“Why axe?”
I seriously got that one a couple times a while back as a zerker warrior from other zerker warriors.
Maybe worth it if zerker gear is mandatory. I don’t mind people wearing tank gear if I’m helping them through dungeons because they’re fairly new to them. My first exo set on my warrior was karma PVT, so I was there too. But if I’m dungeoning with ‘elitists’, everyone needs to be in zerker, except for maybe fractals 48, then still mostly zerker.
I must admit I was mistaken. The risen mini is not account bound and can be purchased from the TP.
I also was surprised by receiving a mini crate from Anet as a thank you gift for previous purchases in the gemstore.
I feel quite stupid right now but wont edit my post because i desirve it.
My sincerest apologies for having rushed to conclusions.
The internet just broke. +1

Well I did not learn my lesson with Halloween….
I did not learn my lesson with Winterdays….
I did not learn my lesson with Lost shores…
I did not learn my lesson with Flame and Frost…
I did not learn my lesson with Southsun cove…But by gawds I hope I have learned my lesson after opening 20 of these chests and not getting a ticket or a mini.
Please just add the bloody weapons and minipets in the gemstore so I can outright buy them. I don’t care if they will cost more.
Random chance is much more profitable. Just get used to it. Buy to play without a sub fee needs to make money through the gem shop and this is how it does it.
What did dust start at today? I would like to record how much gold I’m missing out on.
Lol, I need to start using vacation days on update day. So helpless right now…

Well done sir, congrats!!
However, I never understood the point of spending 10-15 minutes waiting for the “perfect” group, which can complete it in 3-5 minutes less than your typical group.
I have always wondered this too.
This particular lfg is little…..whatever. But a typical 1 mes/4 war zerker group generally takes less than a minute to fill and they usually do multiple runs.
I think this is a good idea. There is obviously an audience for this type of gameplay. Once upon a time I would have joined this guild as well.
This game becomes much more fun when you find people that share your game style.
I’d rather have an option for something like 5 custom profile sets. You could equip all your zerker gear, save it to profile 1. Equip all your WvW gear, save it to profile 2. Equip whatever mix or naked and save it to profile 3 and so on. Then changing to your desired set is just the click of a button.
I’d also like to see this for traits and skills, and be able to name them. Tis but a dream…
Simple, if you want to kill everything just make your own lfg that states “killing everything”. Obviously you’re not alone in this sentiment as people often post this here.
Heck, you guys should just start a “kill all the things” guild.
I need the wings, that helmet looks pretty cool too.
AC 1 and 3 are pretty easy and plenty of people run it. However, many pugs don’t like sub-80’s in their party, especially if it’s your first character. So I understand it can be hard to get a group in your position.
Feel free to add me, send me an in game mail and I’ll add you back. If we’re on at the same time I’ll run with you. Also check the sticky for dungeon mentoring on this page and join their guild. You just need to find the right people and you’ll be dungeoning all the time. I used to have the same issue, now I have to turn down dungeon invites practically every night.
Sweet, thanks! Guardians were already seeming to be pretty preferred when I was around back in the day, so I guess not too much has changed there. The thing that always interested me was that it seemed like if you played things correctly, pretty much any class combo could clear dungeons together just because of how the game is played if the team executes well. Glad to see that seems to be the case still =)
The most efficient team setups generally only include warrior, mesmer and guardian. But that’s for very efficient speed clearing.
You can still be very fast and efficient with any setup as long as you have high dps. I personally prefer my entire team in zerker (rampager if are condition build). A tanky guardian can sometimes help when the pressure is really on, but it’s really only needed for 40+ fractals imo. As long as everyone knows their class well and plays smart, any high dps group will breeze through the regular dungeons if at least one person knows the dungeon. I recommend everyone visit the profession subsections of this forum and find solid dungeon dps builds. I know people like to say “cookie cutter”, but there is a reason why certain build rise to the top, they’re just better. You can still conform most builds to fit you better.
I also recommend taking Mourningcry up on his offer. If you truly want efficiency, running with a pro who is patient and can show you the mechanics of each section will set you on the right path. Feel free to add me as well. I like running with new dungeoners who want to learn efficiency, it means pug dungeons will be that much better in the future.
Don’t expect to be speed clearing instantly. When I did my first few dungeons i was like “OMG SO HARD Y SO MUCH DETH!?!”. Now I have more tokens than I can spend.
Dwayna/Simin is a seriously flawed boss. I understand what they’re going for with it but the difference in dps output means that a mechanic of racing to do something to prevent boss healing is unfair on support/defensive heavy groups or those running classes that aren’t the flavour of the month.
The entirety of PvE is unfair on support/defensive heavy groups. Every now and then I end up in these kind of pugs. I can’t understand why anyone would want to sloth through dungeons like that.
Not a solution. I just didn’t know what you meant by “There are idiots out there that camp the final chest and disband the party”.
It was a lazy way of asking for clarification I guess. But now I know what you mean. They apparently don’t help with the boss fight and camp where the chest will spawn. Never seen this but it sounds pretty crappy. Make sure your whole team reports them.
You’re looking at a minimum of a year before you see profit on these skins. You had a small window to get quick, good profit on them. With the volume and current disinterest this is a long term investment. But assuming these skins won’t be released again as a dev stated is most likely, it’s inevitable that they will eventually go up.
Camp the final chest?
There are enough people around who can solo lupicus, so that shouldn’t be a problem. If anyone struggles at Simin (EU) he can contact Dub.
New people still have issues with Lupi though. I know I did when I first fought him. Now I’m learning the fight with warrior and have some issues again.
Is there an exploit involved in the Simin solo? I’m surprised one person can run the sparks fast enough and muster the dps needed. I believe Dub when he says he did, but I would like to see a video.

First of, this thread has been a good source of insight and what to do / what not to do, so cheers for that guys.
I’ve never done p4. Mainly due to not finding a party. A couple of times I’ve gotten a few guildies but we couldn’t find a final player, I guess people are having a hard time dedicating 2-3+ hours for a single dungeon. LFG for Arah4 isn’t so promising, at least no on EU servers. However, I’ve done a bit of ‘research’, just to avoid TPK by ignorance once I do manage to find a group. So my questions are, from experience, what would be the best party configuration to do p4, and how much time would it be reasonable to expect to spend in the dungeon if the players are experienced, but say half of the party hasn’t done this path before?
If your full team is experienced with running dps builds but none of you has done this path before I would go with 3 war, mes, guard. Even if none of the players have done it before you would probably finish in 1-2h depending on how skilled your group is.
Yes, with the 3war/ 1mes/ 1 guard team all dps you should be able to finish in under 2 hours easy. If one person knows the path and you’re all on voice chat you can get under an hour.
Hopefully your team at least knows Lupi. One of my friends tried his first p4 with pugs the other night. Apparently this was the first Arah run for a couple of them and they couldn’t even beat Lupi. The instance owner left after a few tries.

Can anyone explain something about the petrification? I was on my guardian when I did it, and popped stability when I was about to be petrified, but sometimes I’d get petrified a few seconds later anyway. I had volunteered to be a spark runner, but her constant petrifying me kittened up the runs until I finally realized someone else should take my place. Is the petrify part of an aggro mechanic that normally will focus on one person, and why couldn’t I avoid it with stability?
I tried the stability thing before as well, but ended up getting petrified, maybe my timing was off idk. I haven’t tried it since. Now I ask people to ping their gear and assign the lowest dps to tear duty, and assign one person to take over if the first starts getting petrified. Seems to work pretty well.
The only time I haven’t been able to finish the fight was my first time through. We had 2 guardians, 1 warrior and I don’t remember the other 2. After an hour of trying we started pinging our gear. I, a guardian, had the only zerker set. The warrior had PVT and the other guardian had full GIVER’S… I said I was going to switch to my warrior, the instance owner thought that was a good idea so he did the same, thus booting us from the instance. I was actually somewhat relieved at that point because I don’t think we could have beat her.
The warrior had stated himself as “dps specced” with PVT gear. I wonder if something similar may be going on with the OP as he has them all listed as “High DPS”.

It’s pretty common. Sure, he should have communicated he was going to do so in a pug. But kicking is too harsh. Basically, you should almost never kick at the last boss, not cool.
What you should be saying is “Being new to dungeons, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, let him stay and came here to check with you guys for future reference.”
(edited by laharl.8435)
At least I’m no longer being asked “Why do you has axe??”
You can still be dead on the buttons. I died on the second button last night. My team still fairly easily 4-manned the cage in level 48.
I run new people through Arah p3 3-4 times per week, sometimes more. Even with new people we aggro maybe 1 out 4 runs. Usually I just target him, pull him in and kill him without aggroing more. Even if we die, which is rare, we always make it through on the second run. There is no way it takes 3 minutes to kill every mob in that room. They’re all silver (which are relatively tough in Arah exp) that I know of, plus a champ.
I often do that run in less than 30 minutes, that would definitely not be possible with killing everything, or just everything in that room.

Sorry, by new tier of legendary, I don’t mean new weapons, like 2 extra sta kitten in addition to the Bifrost
By ‘ascended legendary’ I mean you can upgrade you current legendary using more expensive recipes that will make it more desirable and look even cooler.
E.g.
-FSP will now have a trail of flying ghost books as you walk around with it, equivalent to footprints
-Sunrise will now have rays of Sunlight shoot out on critical hits (Twilight will have dark streaks like those flying dark things in Harry Potter)
-Bifrost will now have shards of icy footprints
-Juggernaut will now leave noticeable damage marks on the ground after each pummel/attackedit: Not sure why “s.t.a. kitten ” is getting converted to kittens with this filter
That actually sounds pretty awesome. It would also be nice if there were a way to visually differentiate your legendary from other same legendaries. Like change the color or find different parts for it. Like find different shafts, heads, hilts, different shape blades etc and find add on parts for flair. It would just be nice to personalize it.
I’ve spent possibly close to 10,000 CoF tokens trying to do this. No luck yet, but people have done it so I keep on keeping on…
No matter how good you are, you are still going to die sometimes. Many times it will be things out of your control, maybe someone else aggro’d when they shouldn’t have. They get away but you don’t. Sometimes you’ll have every mob on you, you can’t survive that. This is just the way it is.
I think dungeons are more fun when there is a real threat of failing. If every encounter always played out the same way, we’d all be playing like mechanical robots all the time without ever changing strategies on the fly.
I’ve also seen many occasions where a person thinks all the aggro was on them when in fact it was not. I recently had an Arah pug where Lupi was on me for all of phase 3. He did the bubble and AOE on me every time, but did the life steal on another guy. After the fight the guy said he couldn’t believe he survived the entire phase with full aggro. We’ve all seen stuff like this, where pug is laying dead on the ground saying he died because he had all the aggro, when we know darn well we were taking heat too. I’m not saying this is the case here, just noting sometimes you don’t know what’s going on with teammates when you’re in your own world.

The backlog of chests that will be awarded is going to cause a massive drop in ecto prices initially, with a bounce back to ~17s, where it will stabilize due to the new source of ectos.
That is my estimation at least.
Price will not drop significantly, and this change will more than likely have no effect.
-The chests will not be awarded all at once. If you have a backlog they will be rewarded 2 to 1 for every new rank you get. So extra supply will trickle in rather than be one lump-sum
-Ranks are hard to get. You need to WvW for hours to get a rank. Opportunity cost is missing all the meta events that give you a guaranteed rare where there are plenty of them. I’m 100% sure you will get less rares per hour farming in WvW than farming metaevents
- Not everyone WvW’s
But there are many WvW’ers that only WvW. There are currently 0 ectos coming from them. Now there will be. The farmers will continue to farm elsewhere assuming it is more lucrative, which it probably will be. So we’ll still be getting farmed ectos, but now we’ll be getting ectos from the big WvW’ers. Either way, this sounds like a good thing.
This is a never ending discussion, one I brought up right when guild missions were released. I was met with the same “join a large guild”, “build your guild” comments seen here.
I have joined larger guilds and I now have full ascended accessories, with commendations to spare. It wasn’t hard to do. This still doesn’t change the issue of why does guild size have to be a factor in experiencing content.
Fact: Guild must be X size to complete Y content.
Just the process of myself and my members joining a large guild means my guild is losing out on influence. Not to mention some of members now just stay repped on the large guilds, and who can blame them. The game mechanics are clear, large guilds are preferred by Anet. There is also the fact that since guild missions, it is harder to grow a small guild. They join only to find out we cannot offer them access to all the game content, but a larger guild can, so they leave.
Level 50’s in green gear are killing level 80’s in full exotics in WvW every single day. WvW is not balanced for 1v1/2v2 etc fights. It wasn’t balanced for this long before Ascended. The argument that Ascended makes WvW unfair makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Go to SPvP if you want equal footing.
Main toon name: Safemode
Classes: Guardian might stack/shouts, Warrior zerk, Ranger conditions (currently leveling a Necro)
Experience: Cleared Arah a ridiculous amount of times with PuGs
Gear: Full exotics on all toons with Ascended gear on Guardian (main toon)
Time: I live in Australia so I use that timezone (idk what one it is kitten
Other: Do I need to be on the same server as you or is it okay to be a cross-server guild since cross-server dungeons are a thing?
Also I’m pretty confident that I possess all the qualities you specifically asked for!
Pst me whenever.
You don’t need to be on the same server, just a US server. And thanks for coming on!
I agree that running with people who know what theyre doing and aren’t dying much but are cool about people making mistakes and aren’t elitist is the way to go
If you’re still dying in CoF path 1 at this stage of the game you deserve to be given a hard time.
There are still a lot of new players. It seems many of them are getting their warriors to 80 and jumping straight into the CoF farm. I’ve been seeing a lot of warriors with 1000 or less achievement points lately. Can’t say I blame them at all. But it’s ending up with worse pug runs lately. My warrior and the mesmer have been duo’ing the Effigy more times than I care to count lately. It’s not a good sign when Time Warp and Warbanner are both off cooldown for the Slave Driver every run. I’m glad they’re finally starting to bring axe though.
I’d be willing to go on as leader. I already run p3 almost nightly anyway. The only path I haven’t run multiple times is p1. I often run with SkyChef and we usually get people from this thread or the guild. I would also nominate him for the task if he’s up to it. We both pretty much already do these tasks anyway.
[Edit] So apparently SkyChef has been a leader for quite some time now. Oops….
(edited by laharl.8435)
Melee along with reflects, blocks, stability will get you through without any falling. It is hard to organize with a pug, but groups do make it through without falling. This is actually one of the shorter, easier fractals.
I’m curious, what were the Ursan build days? I didn’t play gw1.
You know what? I’ll help you for free. I don’t want you to have to pay someone for something that the community should encourage you to learn anyway. I probably won’t just “go down a list” or whatever, but my guild and I do dungeons frequently, and can easily be convinced to do random ones for funsies.
Hit me up in-game via mail if you’re interested.
Same here. I do dungeons all the time. Add me and whisper if you see me on (usually week nights). I use mumble, teamspeak, raidcall or skype. I have dungeon master, but there’s a few paths I have only run once so I don’t know them that well. But I know the most efficient paths for every dungeon and mostly stick to those, although I have run Arah p4 a few times just cuz it’s fun.
(edited by laharl.8435)
Tbh I see more mixed groups on LFG.com than war/mes groups.
Yes. Until one looks at the CoF listings. There it is all CoF p1 warriors and 1 mesmer, or CoF p2, warriors and guardians.
They need to make the encounters rougher, with some anti mobility effects and a few mobs that apply confusion. And for CoF p2, they need to fix it so you can’t skip the entire dungeon.
Completely wrong. If you can’t find a non war/mes group you’re doing something wrong.
I can find one easily. In my guild.
But not on gw2lfg.com – that’s overwhelmingly warrior + mesmer zerker when you filter for CoF Explorable.Fortunately I don’t PUG this kind of content often. Fortunately my current 80s are also a warrior and a guardian, and next up for me is a mesmer. BUT none of my characters are zerkers – which I consider a flawed build.
A look at this screenshot shows the place needs looking at, given how tailored the intent of the PUGs for it are.
I never said there aren’t a lot of zerk runs. I said it is still VERY fast and easy to find a non-zerk group. I do it everyday with my guardian. Even your photo shows a bunch of non-zerk runs.
Btw, CoF isn’t the only dungeon being speed farmed by zerkers. It’s just most popular because it has the best time/reward ratio.
Zerker builds are more effective in full zerker groups. A zerker in a group of tanks is going to go down because he will run out of damage mitigation skills before the mobs are dead. In full zerker groups the mobs are often dead fast enough that the zerkers aren’t running out of dodges, blocks etc.
I’m usually on every week night doing dungeons. Feel free to whisper if you see me on and we’ll run something.
