If people are looking for someone to blame they need to blame Anet. They sell gold and that is gold that STAYS in the economy.
I proposed a fix for precursor prices … they buried it in “suggestions”. I suggested an NPC selling precursors for 100/200 based on one hand or two handed. Leaving drop and Mystic JOKE rates how they are. A gold sink that removes REAL amounts of gold from the system. Considering most gold that is bought is purchased for the precursors this is something they seriously need to do. Not to mention it would be EASY for them to implement.
The DR isn’t there to keep us from grinding. It is there to push people to the Gem store. If you honestly can’t see this then you need to stop drinking the koolaid. Selling gold and seriously limiting the ability of your customer to farm it by DR is so sleazy I am embarrassed I pushed friends to buy this game and I have been supporting them since they became a company.
I have been finished with all parts for my legendary and needing my precursor for 2 weeks now. Dusk is 500 gold and will rise before I get to 500 gold. I have several friends in the same boat. You know what? Working for something you will never catch up to because of DR isn’t fun in any way shape or form.
yesterday twilight was priced 800g on TP. IMO that’s quite cheap considering how much gold you need to invest if you wanted to buy everything needed (what can be bought ofc). On the other hand grinding 800g would take same amount of time and you would get most of the mats needed anyway.
That was the highest BUY OFFER not the price. When you look at TP the prices you see on front page are highest OFFER and not the price of item. When I logged off the current bid was 1,800.
They are destroying their own game and don’t seem to care or get that they are. When you SELL gold and don’t put in a large enough gold sink you will fubar your economy. They need to put in an NPC selling precursors for 200+ gold to help remove the gold they are injecting into the economy out of short term greed with gem sales.
Hi guys, I have a level 80 human ranger with almost full exotic gear from running dungeons.
This is all of the human light armor. http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9586/lightarmorwithnamesfina.jpg
Rangers wear medium armor.
The time it took you to reply with that you could have just posted a link for him.

Hi guys, I have a level 80 human ranger with almost full exotic gear from running dungeons. My problem is that I can’t find a chest piece from a dungeon that suits my tastes. I have previewed all of the human cultural armor and I do not like any of them. The only thing left as far as I am aware is karma vendors. I have around 220,000 karma saved up and I don’t know what to do with it. I’ve read that there are a bunch of exotic karma vendors in Orr but you have to complete a series of events for them to even come out. I’ve asked around in-game but I’ve gotten vague answers. Does anyone know how I can go about previewing all the karma gear that is available? It seems like it is going to be a lot of work just to be able to preview a certain type of gear that I may not even like.
This is all of the human light armor. http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9586/lightarmorwithnamesfina.jpg
Sorry about that just read RANGER after posting the light >.< I will try to find the medium link now.

Well it is really simple, A-Net want us to use the cashshop. Why do yhou think it is so difficult to make any gold ?
Except it’s not. That’s the entire point of this thread.
Feel free to send me 3 Dusk’s then (1 for me and 1 for two others in guild stuck on getting the precursor part). Please do not insult yourself with the “you don’t have to get a legendary” line … nobody has to get anything in a video game.
Sadly, thousands disagree with you on the ease of making gold in this tightly managed (DR FARMCODED NERFED) game. The bare minimum to get by sure but if you want to get Cultural or a Legendary then it is Anet steering you to the gem store. That is 1,200 + hours of TRYING to generate enough to get Dusk speaking.
The more I play GW2 the more I’m against capitalism.
Thats what people who cant afford luxury things do in real life. But they still like freedom of speech, having food and other things that you can only have in a capitalist system.
That’s a very biased and ignorant statement that simply isn’t true, but back to topic, i doubt that anybody who actualy has that much gold doesn’t already have a legendary.
Thats what a “communist” who buys stuff developed in a capitalist system (like this game) and have food on his table and freedom of speech would say. Dredges FTW.
And back to the topic, some people might want more than one legendary and, as far as I know, you need 100% completion to make your own legendary, which is obtainable only once per character.
You get TWO gifts of exploration for each time you complete. Each weapon requires one.
Well it is really simple, A-Net want us to use the cashshop. Why do yhou think it is so difficult to make any gold ?
You have to admire them though because it takes a HUGE pair of kittens to actually SELL gold for real money AND nerf the ability to earn it by playing the game. I am embarrassed I recommended this game to so many people now.
Or some personal responsibility could be applied GASP and only people that can actually afford to upgrade could claim the objectives.
People who think ANet somehow profits or wants this sort of thing is ignoring the fact that it’s unlikely / impractical / impossible for anyone to buy that much gold through official channels.
Just like pretty much any MMO, these items are being listed at these prices because someone out there has enough gold to buy them, probably via 3rd party gold sellers.
When most other MMO’s have failed to stop such things, how can you expect ANet to? All they can do is to ban bots as much as possible.
Uh … yes we can expect Anet to do something about it. They have a record of WHO buys what and that doesn’t even include the buy orders. If they were concerned it would be easy to see where those accounts got their gold. They won’t though since some of those players also bought gold from Anet. Greed … pathetic. When you let short term greed get in the way of sound business you go the way of the dinosaur.
3 of us in my guild are in the same boat of having everything complete for a legendary but still needing the precursor. I personally just threw 400 great swords into the Mystic JOKE and of course didn’t get my precursor. So either we have to buy gold to get the precursor or look for another game. We decided tonight to start looking for another game. You win Anet.
The mini pets are a perfect example of the change in Anet between GW1 and GW2.
In GW1 I viewed them as Anet’s way of saying Thanks for sticking with us another year and supporting our vision. For those that don’t know they were FREE then and given as a birthday present every year when your character turned another year older.
In GW2 … they are a reminder of why so many loyal customers from GW1 are unhappy with the direction we seem to be headed in. To me they have no value because they can be bought easily through the gem store.
can devs confirm this is possible? legendaries can now be sold? there is one on the trading post for 9500g
That will only cost you about $7,900.00 USD in gem conversions. They have operators standing by to take your orders.
Why would I do that?
You know what is interesting about your post? How oblivious Anet apparently is to the degree of UNHAPPY a good portion of their customers are.
When I read the forums and can’t find an argument against people calling them money grubbing there is a problem. My “fun” consists of logging in to try and grind gold with DR and AIRDROPS working against me to try and get enough gold to buy the last piece (Dusk) for my legendary.
It feels rather like a blatant SHOVE to try and make me buy gold to finish it. Dusk is 500 and it is obvious that when I reach 500 it will be 800 and then 1,000 etc etc. This is not the same company I loyally supported since they came into being.
I even tried posting a SIMPLE solution of putting in an NPC that sold the items (which would remove gold from the economy … a good thing) their only response was to bury the thread in suggestions.
The honeymoon is over.
When was there ever any illusion that legendaries weren’t supposed to be a grind?
Thank you for the casual players input. The precursor shouldn’t be the grind … the recipe is a LONG LIST of items … THAT is the grind.
… Why should the rest of it be a grind but not the precursor? I’m not really seeing how your point here makes sense.
Anet has already said they are aware it is a problem and are working on the “scavenger hunt” for acquiring precursors. Hence even THEY don’t think that ONE item is supposed to be this difficult to acquire. Currently, the precursor is rising so fast you can only get it by buying gold. Yes Virginia, that is a problem.
If you need help with any other common knowledge issues please don’t hesitate to ask.
Why would I do that?

I have a commander title as i play WvWvW alot. But sometimes i need to make some gold because WvWvW is not cheap. So i jump in the PVE events and sometimes i have my commander title on. Not to show of but when we have guildies that not know where the event is. Its just simple for them to look for the commander title. Also for random people to.
Now the problem is. The moment i put my title on. You get messages from other players that i NEED to play WvWvW and need to get out of the PVE content or that i m just showing my e-kitten. This is can handle and i just simple ignore them but yesterday i had a complete guild telling me that i NEED to do WvWvW as people there need me (While on TeamSpeak chatting to other commanders that they don’t need me at all.). Still not a big problem. But all of the sudden doring the event i got kicked out of the game because my name was inappropriate (using that name the moment gw2 launched).
Well now its start to get a problem. Because everybody know coming up with a name is the hardest part of the game. But my question to the community is. What do you feel when you see a commander in PVE?
I really don’t understand the hate.
Reporting your name because you’re using the title in PvE is a kitten move.
Seeing a commander in PvE has no effect on me whatsoever. They aren’t even a blip on my radar.
I don’t even use titles unless I find them personally amusing. It’s not like they have any effect on gameplay, or my enjoyment of the game.
Actually, they are that blue blip on your radar. I find it really cute when a few of them AFK in Lions Arch at the waypoint by traders so you have to zoom the map in to find the damn waypoint to click on it. /bravo to those super special commanders
Like others have said this will be awesome in 6 months when nobody has anything to spend gold on and EVERYONE has their very own blue smear on the mini map.
You are doing the easy part still … grinding for mats. That part you actually have some control over. I have ALL my gifts done ankittenrying to keep pace with the inflation on Dusk (precursor for Twilight) … at my current pace I will never be able to finish it.
They need to put in an NPC selling the precursors for a fixed rate. I already started a thread on this and then they moved it here to dead thread zone.
T5 mats have halved in price in less than a couple weeks. I doubt demand suddenly plummeted nor supply from a normal player base suddenly doubled, so you are left with a resurgent bot supply as the most sensible answer for it.
Daily (if you watch the TP) you will see batches of THOUSANDS of large bags put on TP or filling orders. I am not talking over time it is a dump all at once … so either Anet is “adjusting the tier 5 market through bags” or the bots are back and rampant.
That and it is hard to choke down about them watching the reports coming in when you and your friends have been reporting the SAME two bots for TWO WEEKS.
I nearly spit my drink on my monitor when I read that fluff piece from them on the war on bots.
My friends and I have been reporting the SAME TWO BOTS in Frost Gorge sound DAILY for TWO WEEKS. They have been going in PLAIN view of people 24/7 farming the Arctodus right above the trolls. Perhaps they don’t actually read those bot reportings from Yak’s bend …
They look to be working together and running two separate way point systems like one is taking odds and the other evens. How they are setup pretty much keeps the entire upper deck clear of Arctodus with only two of them botting.
Yeah yeah the thread and this post will be deleted. Keep in mind everytime you do that on this topic when it is LOYAL customers trying to get your attention on this issue and spending THEIR time sending in the reports it makes you looks like you don’t care about the issue.
ANet after this patch i got the following problems, Can’t invite players after right click on there name in chat.
Guild tags are gone. I saw my summon with no tag [] and my guildy who i was talking to had the same thing. And he saw me with the [] tag to instead of [DC].
Have everyone close the game to desktop and relog. It happens in our guild all the time when they are playing with the network at Anet. If even one of the people you are trying to group with doesn’t do it … it won’t be corrected.
What do I think? When anyone in my guild sees one of the icons they always keyup and say the same thing … we’re safe now there goes a commander. Why? Jealousy? Snarky to be snarky? Nope. I would say that 95% of the people sporting the icon are as clueless as any I have ever run into in any video game in 20 years of gaming.
Ever see a train of NPCs running at you and then see it is a commander bringing them? We have. Ever see someone calling out orders for people to stack on them while doing the Jormag event and see he is standing on the hill attacking while the NPCS die on the ice pillars? We have. There are countless examples … enough that I would never want the icon associated with my own name.
The right to lead should be earned not bought.
Problem: Everypony love Twilight.
You ARE the problem of inflating price. Other precursors except dawn(another twilight) and the legend are below your 100-200g range.
This. Very few precursors are actually in the 100-200g bracket.
Some are as low as 20-30g. When people say they can’t afford a precursor, what they really mean is they can’t afford a precursor greatsword
The ones that are cheap are mostly underwater precursors.
I’m not sure why no one wants those, but I have my suspicions (they can’t be seen on land, so you can’t show them off in town to feel superior to the unwashed masses, which seems to be the reason most people want a legendary these days)
no its that most classes are horribly bad underwater and a legendary won t help….
They decided to make legendary top tier forever…so i decided to try to start to build an incinerator (i really hate the skin also -.- possibly the worst legendary….) i would never thougt of it if it weren t for at least having one less concern every major patch…
Btw i won t be able to get 250 gold for the precursor possibly ever unless i start farming orr like a bot…..if this is even still possible.
Do all the other gathering first. With any luck, there’ll be a new dagger legendary that’s not so goofy by the time you have all your tokens/badges/stack of mats/million karma…
I actually went that approach … I have EVERYTHING (Gift of Twilight, Gift of Fortune, Gift of Mastery) done and sitting in my storage. All I need is my precursor (Dusk) which has gone up 100 gold (510 gold iirc) in less than a week and shows no signs of leveling out. At current pace his precursor would be close to 1k at the current rate of “inflation”. So this may not be the best advice.
The inspiration for this thread was … I already did the “hard” parts and am still unable to complete my legendary because of how the precursors are acquired. Currently the only way to farm enough gold is by BUYING it. If Anet wanted to catch half the people buying from the gold farmers all they would have to do is check the accounts of the people with the buy orders in on Dusk etc. If you can afford to have 300-400 gold tied up in a buy order for one item … odds are you didn’t get it legit.
They seriously need to put in an NPC selling them to help remove some of the gold farmer gold from the economy. It would fix the over all inflation in the economy and help to balance out the damage the bots and gold buyers are doing.

Yes because after spending 1,200 + hours to make the weapon … I really only want to actually use it .005% of my time in game while I am underwater. /facepalm
I appreciate the post for the bump but wow critical thinking fail or a TAD jealous. If you are going to spend that much gold and time for a legendary you probably want to see it as much as possible and THAT is why those underwater ones are cheap.
Personally, I don’t care if anyone else gets to see mine when it is finished because I am making one for ME. Anet went all out on some of them and they are like it or not … really cool looking. You do know you are also allowed to get one right? Well as long as you don’t want Twilight or you will be in the same boat I am in and not able to get ahead of the inflation curve to get the last piece.
Dusk is now 510 gold … matter of a fact 3 are listed at that same exact price. Tell me that isn’t the same person selling them. Anet any chance of a little help on this? THIS stuff right here is how you are losing players and you are losing players.
Dusk is currently at 485 gold … up 45 gold from yesterday. Again I am asking someone from Anet to comment or say working as intended so I know to uninstall. Thanks
Is there any chance of someone from Anet weighing in on this? When I logged off Dusk was at 440 gold … up 27 gold from the day before.
The inflation of precursors isn’t manipulation. The price is directly tied to ectos. So they made precursors slightly easier to get but since that patch, ecto prices have nearly tripled. The end result is that precursors are as expensive as ever and legendaries are far more expensive.
Everything else that goes into a legendary can be farmed if people will put the time in. The precursor cannot.
Ecto is actually easy to come by … farm tier 5 mats … make armor … break down armor. No idea why you link the two together. One item is Mystic forge lottery and the other is something you have control over if you put the effort in.
Those not wanting something done are either casual players with no real grasp of how much these weapons can cost or trolling. Even Anet has responded and is working on a solution. I merely tried suggesting an easier way to do it that requires months less coding.
No idea why I link precursors with ectoplasm, huh? Well, since you have no idea, allow me to explain:
The precursor can be “farmed” by obtaining huge amounts of T5 mats, crafting appropriate level 80 rares, and throwing them into the mystic forge. Sound familiar? That starts EXACTLY the same as the method you described for getting ectoplasm! Ectoplasm and precursors are competing for the exact same resource (actually, only those popular enough to warrant using the mystic forge to meet demand, which are the expensive ones). In other words, the cost to forge a precursor is the opportunity cost of so many hundred ectos. That is why precursor prices are directly tied to ecto prices.
I understand how you are trying to link them … the problem is you are wrong. The price of Mithril and Elder wood logs has actually taken a massive nose dive … the ingredients that go with the tier 5 mats to produce a rare greatsword. Same is true of Ancient wood and Orichalcum … Ori is down about 1.5 silver per. It’s actually cheaper to make rare swords than it was before. Yet precursors and ecto rise.
Fractals stuff requires tier 6 and ecto to make. That coupled with a massive bot ban and you have a short fall on your base tier 5 materials used to create the ecto. Nerfing Plinx probably caused a bigger market shift than any other thing that was done.
I am not sure why you are dwelling on this theory crafting. There is a problem that needs to be addressed and I tried to provide a short term easy solution. My proposal is actually GOOD for the long term economy. By putting in an NPC and keeping the drop rate as is it becomes a massive gold sink that removes gold completely from the game and not just transferring it to another player.

I got my one and only key drop after about 700 hours of game play. I am currently over 1,200 hours of game play and still at one key drop. At least I have almost 2 stacks of chests if I ever get another key drop! Sadly, that is the truth.
I completely understand the sentiment of the 2nd poster. I honestly didn’t believe they dropped until I got one to finally drop.
was wondering if anyone was having a problem with going invisable but still being targeted mostly in PvE for me when i use decoy or anything i put out my decoy i go invisable but im still being targeted and hit its happend to me a few times in pvp but not as much as pve
I had a guardian use his pull on me while I was invisible last night (my party even confirmed I was invisible so it wasn’t a server culling issue). I think it is probably a case of some skills still targeting when Mesmer is in stealth. lol would be nice if they “fixed” the thief like they do the Mesmer and then we could hit them too.
I understand there is an alternative method for obtaining precursors being worked on “scavenger hunt”. For those of us that don’t want to wait another 6 months or however long it will take to “get it right” … I would like to propose an easier solution.
Put in an NPC with a SET price of 200 gold for two handers and 100 gold for 1 handers. If 200/100 isn’t reasonable then pick a price you feel IS reasonable for ONE ingredient in the legendary (yes, the precursor is just ONE ingredient in a long list) and PROBLEM SOLVED.
People that are fortunate enough to get one from the Mystic forge or drop will still have a sudden windfall of gold and the entire process of obtaining a legendary becomes streamlined as it should be. Win win.
Even the notoriously bad devs from Aion did this when they had no choice but to admit the market for needed Stigmas was being manipulated by a few and impacting ALL. They put in the NPC vendor selling the Stigma at a set rate and prices came down .. shocking. They were still expensive but at least you KNEW how much gold you needed.
This doesn’t lessen the achievement of getting a legendary one bit. The only thing this does is make the legendary more like a recipe (as it should be) instead of the lottery or worse yet a credit card purchase. If prices are left unchecked the only way a legendary can be viewed as an achievement is how much gold people were willing to buy.
I currently have 1,200 hours invested in the pursuit of my legendary (Twilight) … at the current pace of inflation I will never actually get ahead of the inflation curve to purchase the precursor (Dusk is over 400 gold and climbing DAILY).
Sorry, but I would like to be able to actually play the game again … instead of trying to milk every last copper out of every minute I am online.
Win win for everyone except people using the trading post. Also what would you do after you milk every copper and got a legendary?
Actually my solution will have less of an impact than the one Anet is working on. When it becomes the “scavenger hunt” the precursor will have zero value. My proposal puts a set price on said value.
The argument of the poor traders … there are only a handful of people with the kind of gold it takes to manipulate the precursor market and many of those got those precursors at the start. I remember one bragging on another site with screen shots with his inventory of Dusks and 900 gold … like 2 weeks into the game. You want to protect people like that over the other 2 million playing? Really?
As to what would I personally do? lol I would like to be able to do a dungeon and not worry about how much gold I am averaging while in there. I would LOVE to be able to do pvp and not think about I am losing money by doing it. As I said … PLAY THE GAME.
Change is coming and like it or not my suggestion isn’t a bad one compared to what we have or precursors being a quest item.

Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
I appreciate you telling us something will be worked out and when.
Please tell me I am not understanding what you are saying … “the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2” … are you saying this 2 second pause has been there all along and I didn’t notice in the last 1,200 hours? I am fairly confident in saying that is not true after watching it attack about 1 million Arctodus in my journey for my legendary weapon.
In this current form the phantasm is either killed or rendered useless by the target running away from it. That was not the case before the patch. Now it is basically impossible to use it to tag enemies when other players are present … they are dead before the phantasm even moves assuming it isn’t killed while thinking over the prospect of attacking.
Again, thanks for an update on this game breaking issue.
I can assure we are looking into it.
The issue regarding the regeneration trait being spotty is that Phantasms don’t apply it to themselves, but in an AoE around them (ignoring themselves). So if you have more than 1 Phantasm close to each other, they’ll apply it to each other (plus you and other nearby allies).
Speaking as a loyal CUSTOMER (I have been here since GW 1 launch) with 1,200 hours invested in GW2 … Have any of you paused to think about the impact these sweeping changes you keep making have on your playerbase? Do you care?
You broke GS Mesmer on 11/15 and didn’t revert or patch it. Your follow up on 12/03 was to kill it? REALLY? Just issue a press release telling everyone to re-roll warrior. There is no way you can call this balance in any way shape or form. If the Warrior is the pinnacle of balance (must be since they are never nerfed) then you bring the other classes UP to the Warrior which creates BALANCE. This can be called balance when EVERY class in the game has a 2 second delay before anything happens.
I personally am on the last step of my Legendary weapon it happens to be Twilight that I am making. You people have effectively made those 1,200 hours I have invested POINTLESS. For the love of God stop nerfing the Mesmer or revert back to common sense and unlink weapon type from the skills like in GW1. What is the point of a Legendary weapon you can no longer use because someone went insane with the “balance” stick?
Am I livid? Yes, I am … you would be too.
This should help …
In probability theory, the law of large numbers (LLN) is a theorem that describes the result of performing the same experiment a large number of times. According to the law, the average of the results obtained from a large number of trials should be close to the expected value, and will tend to become closer as more trials are performed.
For example, a single roll of a six-sided dice produces one of the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, each with equal probability. Therefore, the expected value of a single die roll is
\tfrac{1+2+3+4+5+6}{6} = 3.5.
According to the law of large numbers, if a large number of six-sided dice are rolled, the average of their values (sometimes called the sample mean) is likely to be close to 3.5, with the accuracy increasing as more dice are rolled.
It follows from the law of large numbers that the empirical probability of success in a series of Bernoulli trials will converge to the theoretical probability. For a Bernoulli random variable, the expected value is the theoretical probability of success, and the average of n such variables (assuming they are independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.)) is precisely the relative frequency.
For example, a fair coin toss is a Bernoulli trial. When a fair coin is flipped once, the theoretical probability that the outcome will be heads is equal to 1/2. Therefore, according to the law of large numbers, the proportion of heads in a “large” number of coin flips “should be” roughly 1/2. In particular, the proportion of heads after n flips will almost surely converge to 1/2 as n approaches infinity.
Though the proportion of heads (and tails) approaches 1/2, almost surely the absolute (nominal) difference in the number of heads and tails will become large as the number of flips becomes large. That is, the probability that the absolute difference is a small number, approaches zero as the number of flips becomes large. Also, almost surely the ratio of the absolute difference to the number of flips will approach zero. Intuitively, expected absolute difference grows, but at a slower rate than the number of flips, as the number of flips grows.
The LLN is important because it “guarantees” stable long-term results for random events. For example, while a casino may lose money in a single spin of the roulette wheel, its earnings will tend towards a predictable percentage over a large number of spins. Any winning streak by a player will eventually be overcome by the parameters of the game. It is important to remember that the LLN only applies (as the name indicates) when a large number of observations are considered. There is no principle that a small number of observations will converge to the expected value or that a streak of one value will immediately be “balanced” by the others.
In English …. You need to kill that Arctodus another 2.5 million times … or visit that Gem store! lol sorry couldn’t resist.

While there may not be a normal “trinity” it isn’t too difficult to run a warrior as a tank and a guardian as a heal/support for the warrior which allows 3 full DPS people to melt w/e the target is. We have been doing that since headstart … just sayin. Of course that is ranged DPS not melee … don’t get me wrong glass cannon warriors are a blast to watch as they die.
Just a Mesmer perspective after almost 1,200 hours with the same group. Your mileage will no doubt vary.
A Glass cannon Tank would only end up dying if he/she decides to stand still, and intentionally soak damage for no other reason but to soak damage.
I dont find it “Fun” to watch my team mates die when in dungoens.
And I definantly wont revive someone who intentionally gets himself killed either.Tanking just doesnt work. I’ve done it with people who try it, making it difficult for us to run dungoens smoothly, and I’ve done it with a group of people who actually tries to coordinate Suppot/Control while contributing in damage with the Team which really results in a much smoother Dungoen experience.
Same with A Healer/Support build. If you dont try to contribute in dealing “Damage”, then the enemies will only take longer to kill. Contributing is important with in a team. Sure, in Dynamic Events or WvW groups of people zerging, shouldnt be a problem. But when doing Dungoens and soloing champions, good luck.
So you think in the 1,200 hours we have been doing this we haven’t run into a dungeon or a champion? Arrogant much? I was pointing out an obvious … your way is not the only way. Btw, a “tank” spec warrior still does average DPS because that class is so “balanced”.
You are an Engineer right? Soloing a champion because your turrets are doing the tanking is not something to brag about. Aside from the obvious of why would anyone want to spend the time to solo a champion when they drop next to nothing … why even bring it up?
The combat mechanics in this game leave a lot to be desired. I have honestly never felt this limited in a game when it came to builds since everything is tied to the weapon I am using. But it is what it is.
Want to give solid advice to new people? Leave them with this … don’t think in terms of what your skillbar does for you … think in terms of what the collective skillbars do for the group. Map the R key to your dodge roll .. you will look like a pro even when you oops and hit it

if you’re no longer having fun…why play? this game has a rather large audience from casual mmo player to grindfest mmo player to dungeon crawler and people after ‘phat lewtz.’ anet can’t please everyone so invariably, someone will get angry. if those players don’t vibe with this game…go play something else.
This is the same snide comment made when others including myself tied to tell Bioware that they had serious issues with swtor. And guess what? EVERYONE did leave and play another game, so be kitten sure you want what you’re asking for here. You want everyone who has an issue with the game to bail ROFL you’d be like the hardcore swtor lovers who watched the game rot and die.
Guild Wars 2 is MY game, it is YOUR game too. We bought the game we play the game so when someone takes the time to point out a serious flaw in the loot system in an MMO that recently nerfed drops, be silent of you’re not coming up with solutions.
The drop rates are a joke roll back to September rates pre loot pinata patch, there, problem solved. See how easy it is when you’re constructive?
I know a person that is still playing SWTOR and is enjoying it. 80% of SWTOR players left in protest because of Mass Effect 3. There were even forums and videos about it at the time.
What I’m seeing on the forums is a lot of entitled whinners. “It’s all because of the cash shop”, “I want them to remove dungeons”, “I’m saying that this game is all about grinding, but when they introduced an anti grind policy I’m going to tell them that they did everything wrong”. There’s no satisfying these people. The same way that yesterday on the stream of Kerbal Space program some people started swearing and threatening the developers because they were showing a Kerbal maker instead of the game. They were also rushing devs to release it, even though you can buy and play in beta and receive FREE upgrades that are expanding the game. You know what they got in return? They got told that if they decide to be kitten again they will be blocked. ArenaNet is too patient. Plus I bet if they would say that people would rage with “I’m quiting then”. Well quit. I personally want them to quit. Maybe if 40% of the players left we would have an enjoyable game where people are glad about the free content and not whinning like a little prick.
Two words should be avoided at all costs … “entitled” and “entitlement” they make the user look like a lemming that parrots current trends in political jargon. Sorry but the use of these word became popular by Republicans slinging rhetoric for people that lack the ability to use critical thinking.
Those “entitlement” programs that are “out of money” are not out of money because of legitimate use. Congress borrowed 2.7 TRILLION dollars out of them and did not repay it … there is your shortfall. Feel free to use Google and educate yourself before continuing to use either of those words and making yourself appear to be yet another lemming on the jargon bandwagon.
As to the OP … agreed. DR and farmcode is soul crushing at best. It also looks bad when the game company actually sells gold if they LIMIT how much you can generate by playing in a legitimate fashion. There is nothing worse than killing a mob and having NOTHING drop. They preach no grind and that is the very epitome of GRIND.
Why does a player need gold? Want tier 3 armor? You need gold. Want a commander icon? You need gold. Want a legendary? You need over 1 THOUSAND gold. Anet most definitely coded a NEED for gold into the game. When they limit and SELL at the same time it is very easy for people to view them in a very negative light.
I am personally down to grinding gold for my precursor (dusk) and have all other objectives completed. Unfortunately the price of the precursor is out pacing my capacity to generate gold. Yes, that is a REAL issue to me and all the other people in the same boat that I am in.
Why do I need a legendary? I don’t and neither do you. However, we don’t need anything in this MMO or any other MMO now do we. The legendary is about as cool looking as you can get in this game and the devs went all out making them (thank you Anet) so I would actually question those that don’t try to get one before I would get all high and mighty and play the “you don’t have to get one” card.
Anet created a need for gold. We are happy to grind for it … for God’s sakes take the boat anchor off us and let us do it.
To the OP … should people be rude? No. Does having the icon come with responsibility? Yes. Is it something that can be bought by ANYONE? Yes. Therein lies the problem. The right to lead is something that should be earned and not bought.
You yourself say you forget and it is obvious that you have thin skin (neither is exactly leadership material … no offense) or as many suspect of most commanders that they are seeking attention. HINT: Trying to educate we the peons by coming here when only like 1 out of every 1,000 players ever visits a forum … does lean towards attention seeking. I don’t condone people being rude to other players and have always had a zero tolerance for trolling from members but if you hang a bullseye on yourself someone is going to shoot at it.
There is a simple fix … Commander icon should only be visible to the guild the Commander is REPRESENTING/leading. Anet needs to fall back on a much better game and borrow from GW1 and bring back ALLIANCES and make it visible to other Commanders in the alliance. Problem solved.
My number one complaint with this company … FARMCODE (currently being called DR in GW2). Nothing leeches fun faster than killing a mob and getting NOTHING in return. Half the time I get air drops 7 out of 10 mobs. All mobs should drop something no matter how lame …. SOMETHING.
Putting things in the game that literally REQUIRE you to grind and then they penalize you when you do. lol at least in GW2 they owned up to it right away. In GW1 they denied there was farmcode for a looooooong time before they came clean … making progress I guess.
Any chance we can get an update as to when or IF this is going to be addressed?
The Berserkers on the wall in WvW was hardly game breaking … this however is. Please roll back the “fix” until you actually fix it. Or have the decency to treat us like adults and give us an update on what is being done and WHEN it will be done. Busy? No doubt. Too busy for good customer service? I hope not ….
I will never understand people that sling the line “don’t play if you aren’t having fun”. You know what happens when enough take that advice?
Anet needs to find a way to KEEP it fun. Telling people to take a break is always a bad idea. I currently have 25 members taking said break and it isn’t limited to my guild. If enough take a break with how GW2 is designed this game will not FUNCTION. Can you and a handful take down Claw of Jormag? How about a temple? Nothing sadder than game death … let’s not encourage the demise please.
1100 hours played and you havnt got a legendary?!?
If you played the TP in the beginning of the game/at launch, sell mats that you aint using, sold particular jewelry in the beginning of the game you could pretty easy get a few 100 gold in less then 200 hours played. A guy from my guild got 400ish gold in the 2 month of the game by just playing the TP, then he grinding Orr like a boss for a few weeks and then he bought his legendary staff. i dont think he broke 700 played hours.
LOL. Check his statements and you will see a different story unfold. I am a preorder as well and was here from headstart forward. The first 200 hours of the game gold was priceless and gems worthless (I remember when 1 gold bought 399 gems). Exotic drops sold for 50ish to 70ish silver. If he made a “few hundred” in under 200 hours he was either the luckiest person on the planet or one of the many that exploited the forge at the start.
700 hours played isn’t that many for a new MMO. If his results were typical there would be A LOT of Legendary weapons around. I have seen TWO on Yak’s bend.
I never grinded. I never spent more than an hour at a time in Orr, never did a dungeon more than 1-2 times in a row. The only thing I spent hours at a time on was WvW but that was because it is easy to lose track of time playing that. After 690 hours of play I got myself the legendary pistol (pissed of that if i had waited a week i could have saved 60 gold on the precursor).
I have never really stuck with a MMORPG before gw2. I am not the type of player who likes grinding at all, but GW has so many options to get to the same goal that you dont need to grind.
For people complaining about lodestones… who says you have to grind all 100 of them, or buy all 100 of them. You need to set yourself much smaller goals. Go run a dungeon path and get a core or lodestone, go farm some mobs for 30 minutes, go get some orich ore and sell with the loot from earlier and use the profit to buy a lodestone or 2. Before you know it you have a few lodestones and you never spent more than 30-45 minutes doing the same thing over and over.
You do know you have to pay that credit card bill eventually right? Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I have over 1,100 hours played and am only about 2/3 of the way to my Legendary. You managed to achieve the same result in 500 fewer hours and a lot of that in WvW … I detect bullkitten or a credit card on fire.
They have sold over 2 M I L L I O N copies … why on earth do lemmings think they need money already. For those too lazy to do the simple math that is 120 million dollars based on the CHEAPEST version of the game only. I would happily bet they are closer to 1/4 of a billion already and climbing steadily with Christmas approaching.
Do not kid yourself into thinking the dev team makes anywhere near that. WoW brain washed an entire generation into thinking a monthly sub was needed to keep a game alive and making content … box sales pay for that and more. The cash shop is about greed not need. Thank the shareholders for that.
Of that $120,000,000 (ish) how much do you think goes back into on-going development costs, how much is absorbed into the publishing company and is never spent on anything Arena Net are currently working on.
A lot of it will also be re-invested back in to cover the development costs from the original development. Rough example, EA barely broke even with the initial box costs on SWoTOR (Though that cost ridiculously more, it illustrates my point). EA even said prior to launch they needed to sell X amount of copies to just break even, let alone make a profit.
The gem store covers on-going costs after the initial cash influx.
Anet sold around 7 million boxes of the first 4 chapters … basic math again … over 300 mil. We ALL saw the offices of Anet before launch and most of us have better PCs than what they created the game on. Are you implying the staff is so well paid that half a billion doesn’t meet their needs?
This is corporate GREED not need. I am old enough to remember when software and games shipped and WORKED because patching over the Internet wasn’t really an option. Those companies still managed to make money ….
Gem store is a money grab no more no less. Sadly, Anet is now creating events with the intent of making money from them instead of love of the game and fan appreciation. How they were in GW1 is why I have happily contributed to their cause and sold as many people as I could get to listen on the integrity of this company. With the direction I see them taking now … I am embarrassed that I did.

Question what is the goal you’re trying to reach, Cause I am having the opposite experiance. Goal take a long time to reach but can be achieved withotu any grind what so ever!
Example I am currently crafting a Corrupted Staff. Takes 30 corrupted lodestones, the drop rate is attrocious so if one had to farm the components directly and do nothing else it will feel grindy but since you can buy them off TP I just play the game, explore stuff, do the occational dungeon, do some WvW and occationally farm a little!
so far 1 I had, also I got 5 from farming and have amassed enough money to buy the rest (though didnt do it yet, want to get another 5g before spending all I have)
Some of the legendary weapons require 100 lodestones that cost 2+ gold each (not counting the 1000 gold in other mats). If you are content to casually farm your goal over the span of 10 years then more power to you … some of us don’t have that kind of patience. Legendary doesn’t happen without sheer force of will or a credit card on fire.
For those about to say you don’t have to get a legendary weapon … feel free to show me that new and exciting end game. MMOs are about getting gear and those trying to get a legendary are the ones actually falling into the MMO target audience. Claw of Jormag looks cool but can you honestly say you would take the time to kill it without a chance of reward?
Again, grind is to be expected … being slammed with DR and Farmcode is just ridiculous. My 2 copper your mileage will no doubt vary.
Grind? In Guild Wars 2? Surely you jest.
It is an MMO … I expect to have to grind to get things I want. However, the DR and FARMCODE system I resent with every fiber of my being. Dangle the carrot for those willing to work for it then penalize them when they do. Half the time I get 7 airbags (no drop) out of 10 mobs. Don’t say switch monsters please since we are FORCED to grind certain things for certain drops … lodestones anyone?
If this game is to survive … THEY CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
Hi,
Please keep the discussion constructive and friendly.
Thanks for your understanding.
Constructive and friendly would be much easier to achieve if we were given an idea of WHEN you will be fixing this. Roll back the changes until you figure out how to implement your “fix” without breaking the class beyond being playable.
I played Warhammer where the devs told us the Archmage was broken …. and then left it that way. I will not continue to support this company if you are going to take the same approach. If you break it … fix it.
Thanks for your understanding.
If I wanted conditions I’d have started with necro and STAYED in necro.
If you wanted glass cannon, why didn’t you go thief or warrior?
The same reason there isn’t a “holy trinity”? Did you forget that all classes are special snowflakes? Telling someone to play another class because they nerfed the one they were playing is moronic at best. The issue is in the nerfing.
When they come along and nerf “your build” and nothing is left viable … then what. Stop dismissing other players legitimate complaints. Just because they do not impact YOUR game play because you use a different build that doesn’t make their complaints illegitimate.
