Hopefully something changes.

Right. The reason that both rangers and warriors still play this game still. Oh hopefully they’ll get it. oh yeah they’ll get it next time. Oh okay next time.. and so this is the next time. But when is the next time? If you catch my drift. I feel a large player base ready to leave the game. I’m getting pretty close myself.

Lol. The only 2 reasons this game is still alive are: 1) It’s free to play 2) It isn’t competing against any other mainstream pvp-centric MMORPGs. That will change soon enough.

It doesn’t even have good pve. Honestly. Getting hard to tell what was so revolutionary behind this “masterpiece.” I don’t even think aion was this bad when thief era was happening. They got on balance pretty quick and it wasn’t much of a problem lol

No kidding. GW2 has actually made me miss Aion… For anyone who played Aion, that says a lot.

Somewhat agreed, I will never miss the brain-melting experience that was Aion grind, nor do I care much about it’s PvE in general (I find GW2 PvE more enjoyable, can’t quite put words to it atm but I know the reasons). But PvP was superior imo, for a variety of reasons, the bottomline is that zerging in Balaurea is WAY more fun than zerging in the Mist Wars, and on top of that, since PvP is the objective (most of the time) rather than some tower/castle/keep, there were also a lot of small group fights going on, which make the experience that much better.

Guardian wanting to start fractals

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

Although full shouts is never a bad build, fractals has several encounters that can be made easy mode with the use of projectile breakers, such as Wall of Reflection and Shield of the Avenger

such fractals include: Grawl, Uncategorized, Ascalon, Swamp, and more.

I’m only up to 30 (stopped climbing fractals) so my experience may not have the best insight, but I usually run something along the lines of:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUIQJAWSlYgKC3FyKEf4ERWBRa9AgEsgYP0oH7IA-jQCBYLBigAi+AI5pIas1tht6KalXBRXDT5iIqGA-e

I swap in weapons such as scepter/focus and greatsword when the situation calls for it, but most of the time I have my hammer out for the protection symbol, at higher levels of fracs signet of judgment may no longer be that useful since the mobs will do tons of damage no matter what, but at 2x and 30 i still find it extremely useful when I’m charging up my symbol.

Utilities are changed accordingly also of course. There’s not really a lot to substitute in, mostly just Hold The Line for WoR when there are no projectile encounters, Shield of the Avenger in somewhere, or some of the other consecrations too (mostly hallowed ground)

Warriors: Please Use Banners

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

i just read a couple above posts.

1st Guardian especially 5 is not more dps than even just 3 warriors.
2nd Warriors should already be taking banners as disc provides at the very least a 10% damage buff to the group, while str is around 8-10%. Im not saying that if you’re the only warrior you need to use both, but at the very least disc.

I still disagree with battle standard though, it is mainly a PvP skill for its hard res ability and it generates swiftness a usekitten on during boss encounters. Sure fury and might are great for the group as a whole but again it is not always up for every fight, unless your group has very low dps, in which case standard probably isn’t going to see its full potential anyways.

Think about your statement, then laugh at yourself.

Guardians really arn’t as kitten as you think they are, they can actually have quite scary DPS.

I don’t think guardians are crap, the guild i run with DnT might have heard of us. Runs full zerk guards, because they do have good dps. But they still even at full dps spec only have 3/4 of a warriors, and even then it just comes down to how good the warrior is at his/her rotation.

And really 5 guardians do not have enough fury uptime that 3 warriors do, they might be able to keep 25 might and vuln, but fury would be the biggest killer on their dps.

Can you provide some math with that? I’m curious because as I would see it, if a Guardian can get 100% fury uptime and might stackage from his teammates, then his DPS should be on par with a warrior’s, even when taking rotations into account. And if we’re considering perfect scenarios, a Guardian should be able to outDPS a warrior because smite.

I say “should” because I do not have the concrete numbers but rather some rough estimates and educated guesses, if you could provide some hard math that would be great.

Support is not useless, the real problem with it is that it’s heavily tied into DPS, because most classes can go full berserker’s with a damage oriented trait set up and still have some decent support traits/abilities/whatnot going on.

Defiant is a real problem though I agree.

Bannerpacker, when activated your character will take the closest banner (whether from yourself or your allies) and place it on his back, allowing you and your team to enjoy the benefits of the banner while mobile, without the banner’s own kit of course. Activate again to drop the banner, 10 second cooldown after dropping. Goes on the F2 slot.

What about giving a premium to zerker warriors?
they certainly need that…..

And what makes you think that zerker warriors would be the best way to kill the bosses fast?
Spending half a fight dead would not really kill the boss fast

here comes lordkrall!

zerker is still the best way to kill the bosses fast because if you can stay alive you’ll be able to outDPS any other set of armor/gear out there.

And how well did a full-zerk warrior do in the Molten Alliance Facility?

Guard+War couldn’t really “override” the mechanics in that dungeon.

DPS is important to killing fast indeed, but DPS is completely useless if you die within a few seconds.

I don’t know what kinds of groups you run with, but I ran as a full zerker warrior and had no problem staying alive in MF, even on my very first run, then I tried it on my zerker guardian and it was even easier staying alive.

I’m okay with using Banner of Discipline/Strength but the elite banner’s uptime is just too pathetic for me to actually use it. Not to mention how the res (and banner of defense’s stats) are pointless in a party that knows what it’s doing.

Yeah the 33% ish uptime with the trait is pretty sad, but it’s still a lot more useful as a whole than Signet of Rage, during boss encounters plop it down and you get a party wide perma 3-4 stacks of might and fury (until the banner is over at least), freeing up the slot that FGJ used to take, or even not if you choose to take it for more might stackage and extending fury for fights that take longer than the 65 seconds warbanner lasts.

Threads like these show exactly why none of the other classes feel sorry anytime you guys get nerfs. You guys just don’t understand how DPS is a team function. There’s more to it than just who popped the biggest number on some trash boss.

really like what? using CC on a boss that has defiant? using a class dedicated to chills when full DPS teams do it fine without it? sounds like you have never seen strifes videos

lolwut, he’s talking about how about half the people in this thread fail to see that banners/party support is an obvious choice for warriors.

Berserker - math and gear for the average joe

in Guardian

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

No need for math, common sense would agree that full beserker with 30 Valor and 30 Honor would tell you it’s the best.

(Apply might to allies on crit, heal when applying boons…. valor increases crit damage)

Since we’re talking about effectiveness, shift that 30 in valor to radiance and you have a much more effective build.

I love how theory crafting forgets that dead people do no DPS. Keeping yourself and your group alive at the cost of some DPS is a good trade-off.

The problem is that the most popular build out there atm, the Altruistic Healers, doesn’t trade off DPS to help keep yourself and your group alive, it only keeps yourself alive.
If you take away the 30 points in Valor and put them in either Zeal or Radiance, you’d be keeping all of your group/party support prowess (or perhaps having even better support since Radiance has an abundance of blinds and vulnerability) while dishing out more damage, ending the fight earlier and saving your teammates some damage. The logic is there if you choose to consider it.

Of course we don’t know how exactly the new condition is gonna work yet or how powerful it is but that is just my initial assumption.

I raced a warrior on my thief while farming coffers, beat me to almost every one, I even used Inf strike and shadowstep to try and win. GS/Sword+warhorn is more mobile than a thief sadly. Maybe I’m just bad but they are almost on par with each other depending on the situation.

The real question is, have you ever tried chasing a thief in WvW?

I don’t raid anymore, but there’s good reason for #2. If you do take raiding seriously it is important when recruiting that you get like minded people. Otherwise you end up with conflicts of interest where some in the raid want to fool around and others want to down the boss. There’s nothing wrong with being casual or hardcore, but its best that players self-segregate so everyone can enjoy themselves in a way consistent with their definition of fun.

When GW2 wasn’t out yet, they answered the question multiple times. No, they don’t want you to be be an antagonist, and no, they don’t want to bring open world PvP into the PvE world. However, they have changed a lot of their philosophies in the past ten months, so I would say there’s a reasonable chance for what you are asking to become reality if NCSoft/Nexon are convinced that they can profit off of it. Keep those suggestions coming and you might get what you wish for!

New Armor Sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

I would be much happier if the helmets didn’t cause bald head syndrome like every single helmet in the game.

That being said, I mainly like the shoulder and glove designs, the rest isn’t complex enough to match those imo, they just look like scraps of cloth next to them. I like how the heavy armor is somewhat form fitting at least, so I won’t look like I’m wearing a box or somthing.

I don’t think that’s necessary. Look at the concept art for the gear in this game, most of which we don’t have. They know to design amazing sets, and in a few cases they already have. I do agree, and so do many people that they need to really put more effort into new armor sets/skins going forward, 10 months post-launch and they haven’t even added a new set to the gem shop.

Look at GW1 armor sets, though. Many of those sets, in particular the Canthan/Factions sets were incredible for their time. But the aesthetic of Guild Wars has never really been about neon, glowing, and laser light shows out of our shoulder pads (although that would be entertaining for a little bit). It’s always been more about elaborate, and ornate design and this is something that they haven’t done a great job at so far except for as you said, a few sets. Firing the team isn’t the answer, though as I think they’re fully capable of bringing us amazing sets that suit the setting we’re in. Remember that this game takes place at the beginning of an industrial era. We’re moving from the old world into the new one. The steam punk theme is perfect if it is done really well and I personally feel like this is a good start. They may not be the greatest sets as we can tell from a couple pictures, but we have yet to customize them with our own dyes and such and this does not mean they are the only ones coming in the near future.

Yeah I agree somewhat, GW’s design is just fine without all the glows and the shining lights, they just need to focus on the details, theme, and general aesthetics. I have no problem with industrial like armor, but why does the light and medium look so bulky? It should still fit the class themes somewhat (These fit the Engineer more than anything).

I mean I like that new armor skins are coming out, and these aren’t too bad (I do not like the helmets one bit though… too much “punk” in steampunk), but you have to admit that they can/should do better than this.

one problem with a hard core mode here is aggro switching.

How many times have you been fighting etc when some other player comes trucking by with a few mobs in tow? Now his mobs are yours as well as the batch you were currently fighting.

Most times this is quite unintentional and someone is just traveling but this could be done with malice quite easily.

I don’t think it should be applied to the open world because it’ll cause an absolute kittenstorm, but having hardmode dungeons/instances/etc as an option would be nice (so there’d be 3 types of modes, story, explorable, then hardcore)

Signet of Inspiration for Guardian?

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

You were comparing time warp to so i gave an example of other class skills. I’m sorry but " Save yourselves" don’t apply stability have you ever played a guardian before? I’m just saying that the signet would be so much more useful on Guardians in PVE, You guys seem to think its OP because it would make guardians the top sort after class in party support. Guardian already have ’ Hold the Line " skills which provide protection and regeneration. How does it exactly destroy the balance class wise. Does it make Guardians more Stronger no it doesn’t, it just makes their supportive role a lot more better. The term you are using shouldn’t be overpowered since all class benefits from it. Exactly how does this skill even make the guardian OP in a solo basis. It doesn’t! It would be useless without a party. The only thing this skill would do to guardians is make people prefer them over other classes in Party. We already see this happening in CoF with zerk war and mes. So stop saying its OP or unbalanced because its not. It just changes people’s opinion of which class they want better in a party.

use SYG and SY for all boons including stability, use signet of inspiration for party wide god mode.

how exactly does it change people’s opinions of anything? The Guardian is already a must have in any max effectiveness party, I’m sorry that you’ve been stuck doing 2nd rate “speed” runs but the Guardian is already an almighty party support everywhere else. This would literally give them a power that is untouched by any single class, they would be pushed to a tier above the current “meta” and it’s disturbing that you fail to see it.

and since its clear that you cannot grasp the magnitude of your own suggestion i’ll just leave it as that.

Signet of Inspiration for Guardian?

lmaonade.9207

So a Guardian having to use up 2 of their utility skill with a 40sec cool down on both to give everyone in the party 10sec boon buff is OP while Warriors have infinite party wide might (" For Great Justice" to accompany them with Signet of Rage 30sec of might is not OP. Yeah this skill is definitely not logical and …. definitely OP for Guardians because warriors can have infinite might and not be considered OP.

Some Guardians are ALREADY giving up 2 slots for 4 boons of party support (SYG and HTL), and most Guardians use some OTHER method of party support (such as party wide condition removal), this puts it over the top by allowing the guardian to give every boon there is, while still keeping most if not all of their innate support. Guardians were already powerful party supports before, I don’t see how you think this won’t bolster their status and the party support.

How exactly is a permanent 3 stacks of might overpowered? I could put on Bane Signet on Guardian or Signet of Might on Warrior and it’ll already be more powerful than the 3 stacks of might. Another thing is that are you seriously comparing perma 3 stacks of might and 33% uptime on fury to 33% uptime on ALL boons? For starters it’s already as good or better than fury from For Great Justice, another thing is that it includes the BEST boons in the game: Stability and Protection.

I can’t even explain it in words very well because of how painfully obvious it is that a party wide all boon buff would completely destroy balance.

It’s only OP in party support sense but if you’re soloing with a guardian that signet doesn’t make the class OP at all. I just thought it would be so much more useful on a Guardian than a mesmer.

It’s practically a “Save Yourselves” skill but party wide everyone benefits from it not just the Guardian.

I don’t get how you think a party wide “save yourselves” is not overpowered.

of course it’s much more useful on the Guardian, that’s precisely why the Guardian doesn’t have it

Definition of Overpowered in my opinion is when one class have advantage over all other classes. But the “Signet of Inspiration” doesn’t make Guardians have advantage over any class it just increases party performance. I mean guardians already have the “Save Yourselves” skill i just thought it would be nice if we could share it with every party member and it only last like 10secs. And when in a party everyone expects the Guardian to tank and keep party members alive and providing them protection boons. This is the perfect skill in my opinion for party support.

It IS the perfect combo for party support, that’s what makes it overpowered! You’re twisting your logic too much, I could give Time Warp to Guardian and say it’s “higher party performance,” nothing overpowered about it at all.

The only thing it would do is make Guardians more sort after due to their support abilities. Also having “Save Yourselves” + “Signet of Inspiration” combo activate takes up 2 of the utility skill slot with a good 40sec cool down leaving the guardian with only 1 utility skills to protect themselves for the next 30 – 40 secs. I’m only talking about this PVE wise it would benefit everyone in dungeon run. I don’t care much for WvW or PvP they can have the skill disabled. It doesn’t make the Guardian themselves any stronger since they already have the “Save Yourselves” boons, having the Signet of Inspiration skill would increase overall party performance.

If GW2 was anything like Rift, I know I would NOT be playing it, and even less giving 20€ or more worth of gems per month to the developers.
There’s some things like housing and mounts that I hope to see in GW2 someday, but other things like raiding that would make me quit immediately.

I see this sentiment a lot on these forums and I just don’t understand it. Raiding is so anathema to some people that it can’t even exist in the game they’re playing.

I’m not into PvP, so what I do when I play an MMO that has PvP is to simply not do it and instead do things I like. PvP has had more of an affect on the games I’ve played because of balance than the other way around, yet it’s never made me quit.

The reason most people don’t like Raids is because they think that it’ll mean gear progression like WoW. That’s why I said I’d rather see UnderWorld and Fissure of Woe brought back like they were in GW. You go to UW to farm mats for Obsidian Armor and you go to FoW to craft your Obsidian armor. And Obsidian Armor wouldn’t have any better stats than the rest of the Armor you can get, just a different look and it’s harder to get.

I would definitely welcome something like UW or FoW, but the main thing I’m hoping for is challenging content done with more than a party’s worth of people, something along the lines of Urgoz’s Warren. Guild bounties are a step in the right direction for me, but it’s still only a single target objective. If that sort of concept can be expanded to a whole instance then it would be perfect.

Meh.
I was going from memory, posting from a mobile device at work. It’s still better than Rift. I hated playing a rogue in Rift when half of the souls were taken up by ranged, tank and support souls. As a melee rogue you had three choices, Assassin, Nightblade and Bladedancer. It gave the illusion of variety without having much variety.

Rift – 4 classes with 8 Souls
GW2 – 8 professions with 5 trait lines
GW2 still wins with number of options because you don’t have dedicated roles wasting space.

The only thing I enjoyed about Rift was the level 5-20 Zone events and the invasions. Once I left the level 5-20 zone it the epicness dropped off and the game got boring real quick.

the 5 trait lines are poor methods of differentiation imo, since you can have numerous amounts of different trait combinations that play more or less the same exact way as each other.

the way i see it, in 5 trait lines you can get maybe 3 distinctive roles (defense, offense, and support)

I’ve enjoyed the story parts, but not the other achievements, I have my wings already, I’ve done the holograms, the fireworks, and the pinatas (and candy eaten but that comes with the other ones already). I found the holograms to be pretty kitten ed grindy, I even had a route mapped out to “maximize” time between projectors, I’ve opened about 400 coffers and have gotten 1 mini risen knight, candy, and fireworks, I have another 100 regular coffers in my inventory I’m contemplating to sell, since RNG dictates I never get a skin anyway.

So yeah, some people may have been able to get some of the better rewards and therefore participate fully in the dragon bash, but some people, like me, can grind their nuts off and still see nothing close to a memento of participation.

Yeah, the holograms are grindy if your goal was to get them done as fast as possible and only focus on that one achievement. I personally haven’t done the hologram achievement because I didn’t find it interesting and also found that I could probably complete the 8 achievements without doing it.

I would’ve been happy without getting the jade weapon or the normal wings, but as you said the RNG is a pain in the neck. RNG is something else entirely, and I agree that something needs to be changed in that department.

My goal was a jade weapon, which would have involved me killing things over and over again for coffers anyway. It has mostly to do with RNG but that’s a different topic.

And in my opinion it would be grindy no matter if i get it done all in one day or if i spread it out over many days, the time i spent killing holograms is still the same, and the task of killing 300 holograms is still the same

If the only way to avoid grinding is to not participate in content updates, then that means the game is becoming the grindfest. I could use the same logic in any other grinding MMO also and say that I can avoid grinding by not doing anything that involves repetitive tasks, but will I get the rewards associated (anything from experience to loot, to special rewards like the wings)? No, a definitive no.

And the fact of the matter is that no matter if you personally choose to grind achievements or not, the lastest content update is geared towards grinding, and may say something about Anet’s agenda for future updates.

I didn’t say that grinding is the only way to participate in content. I’ve been enjoying dragon bash, I just haven’t needed to grind to do anything. I got a jade ticket a number of knights just from opening normal coffers, and got a normal holographic wing drop. I will have the eight achievements once the story continues tomorrow for the shattered wings. I am thoroughly enjoying the content (in addition to the lovely drops), and still not grinding! Dunno how you’re doing things, but this update certainly doesn’t seem about grind to me.

I’ve never had to grind and I’ve been playing since August (or April 2012 if you count BWE).

It depends how you play the game. To complete the kill 300 holographic dragon minions, for example, some people rush through, farming the holograms and speeding around the map to kill that many. Why? I honestly don’t know why they want to do things so fast. I’ll be happy even if I never complete that achievement, which I’m not even halfway to completing.

People complaining about grind tend to be (but not always) people who are grinding through the game. I’ve never had to grind in the game and nobody else does either, but some choose to go through content quickly for the fastest rewards and end up finding that the game does not reward that play style.

The game has always had “Kill X creatures” for achievement points, since day 1. This is no different. I don’t need to do it to get the dragon wings, which I don’t really want too much anyways.

If you choose to grind your way through content, that’s your choice.

If GW2 was anything like Rift, I know I would NOT be playing it, and even less giving 20€ or more worth of gems per month to the developers.
There’s some things like housing and mounts that I hope to see in GW2 someday, but other things like raiding that would make me quit immediately.

So in other words raiding shouldn’t even be an option for players, and anyone who likes raiding should quit GW2 and/or go die in a ditch.

Seriously? Why do people insist that GW2 must cater to a certain type of audience, why can’t it expand? It’s not as if adding a raid would remove anything that you like in the game, I cannot wrap my head around these utterly selfish ideas.

Because a lot of players started playing GW2 exact for the reason that there is no Raiding and no endless gear grind. Also there are so many other games that cater to the raiders, why must they try to turn every other game in another EQ or WoW clone ?

Btw. i left Rift after 5 months when i noticed that it was in the end just another dungeon and raid-grinder and you only got crap for fighting invasions in the open world at max level. I played then Champions Online until GW2 was released since i never again wanted to play a gear-grinder.

I give exactly 0 kittens about gear grinding, there is none in GW2 so that’s a good thing. But why on earth would someone specifically look for a game without Raids? If raids aren’t your thing then you don’t have to participate in it, so unless a game completely revolves around raids I don’t see what’s the harm in having a few as an option for different players with different tastes.

Gear grinding is totally different because it affects every player, but raiding is a piece of content, if GW2 doesn’t force you to do it for exclusive rewards I don’t see why the game shouldn’t have it.
Please reason with me, why should GW2 not have raids or some equivalent? If the answer is “because certain people don’t want it” then that’s the crappiest answer ever, I’m sure some people didn’t want dungeons, why were they included in release? I’m sure some people didn’t want dungeon-crawling, why was fractals released? I’m sure some people didn’t want gear tiers past exotic, why was Ascended gear released? The fact is that adding a raid can only add to the game, it can’t take anything away. I’m not asking Anet to suddenly change their agenda to accommodate raiders, they can keep their current target audience, but why are you and many others so adverse to having more options?

Cragstead was just a small area built on top of the spider cave in Wayfarer Foothills. It holds no significance since it is an instance and has nothing to present players with.

Hatchery provides players with nothing besides what was available in Flame & Frost.

Southsun has become an integral part of the game since it has been involved in TWO events, not just one and thrown away.

So I fail to see your argument.

I have no argument. Simply pointing out that the world has changed. Cragstead is in the process of being rebuilt, with NPCs who thank you for helping them collect their mementos. Southsun has several new structures and outposts which didn’t exist before.

I am slightly perplexed by your wording. “Provides players with nothing.” What do you mean by this? Because by that definition, you’re somewhat correct. there is nothing “provided” aside from a few new NPC conversations and new scenery. But doesn’t that fall under the category of “change?”

your point would’ve been better if Cragstead and the Hatchery had been open world areas, but they’re instances, so they have little to no effect on the actual living/open world.
