WvW is totally pve area now

Well. I used to hate WvW too as a PvE player, but I started playing it because I wanted to get 100% Map. But I grew to like it, now I mostly wvw.

New players are welcomed, hopefully they want to improve and follow the more experienced players.

No WvWer wants to start their first match of seasons with disorganization, new players trying out WvW is fine, PvE players wanting to get achievements is fine, but it comes at the expense of the people who have been playing WvW for a long time, and have waited for something competitive like this for a long time, because now they get to wait in line.

The “Elitist” comments in this thread are really obnoxious, so people can’t be upset that they can’t even play the game mode they enjoy the most? PvE players have rightfully entered WvW, I mean it’s part of the game no one can tell them to do otherwise, but WvW players are rightfully disappointed as they have to wait in line to play something they’ve contributed a lot of time to. And I honestly think it’s unfair.

This is coming from a primarily PvE player too.

Let’s say the Pact and Kralkatorrik had a treaty. What happens after they defeated Palawa Joko? Kralkatorrik will just stab the Pact in the back or worse: kill Trahearne in the process. Trahearne’s death could cause the Pact’s disbandment (unless our characters stepped in and become the Marshal).

I’m okay with this.

Warrior VS Necro

Oh I’m sorry for giving counter argument for argument… Didn’t know only he could speak anything of it.

There is this thing we do also in EB JP, 2vs2, 3vs3. I also like to use the same build while runing on zergs. It’s WvW overall and can perform well everywhere. What it does in zergs is supports with shouts and uses longbow to attack enemy zerg + as someone blasts my f1 skill they get might.

Gee, Flaunt, I guess I can not speak of my build and correct the false information other people gives about it without making it flaunting. The other guy seems to think I go semi shout build instead of real shout build. Like I would take only shouts in my utility bar and wouldn’t go soldier runes and correct traits.

Yeah, Flaunt, because you make a thread specifically asking for “a build which isn’t a shout warrior,” then you go on to argue against a post with merits of a shouts build, which I have already explained. I’m trying to focus on the topic at hand (which you made btw), which is Warrior vs. Necro, IE a duel. Shout builds have no place in duels because they aren’t made for 1 vs 1 fights, they are passive benefits to groups, especially if you trait for them and take soldier runes, think about how much of a waste it is to be able to heal and remove conditions in an area, but instead you only have those benefits to yourself in a 1 vs 1, where the total effect would be diminished by 80%.

Again, shout builds are inferior for dueling, I thought you had recognized this since you asked for a non shout build. If you wish to use the same build for all forms of WvW then that’s fine, I can’t and won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to. But just know you’ll never win a 1 vs 1 against a decent Necro with a shout build, it’s just not built for that.

And, as a law of nature, Zerker’s will always give and TAKE more damage than PTV. Sometimes sustaining one’s life is just as important.

btw… why do people call it PVT when the stacking order is PTV? Even following the alphabet it would be PTV.

Yeah, Zerker does take more damage than PVT, but that’s not really the argument at hand is it? The argument was about damage.

Plus, Guang was most likely talking about PvE, and it seems as if OP was talking more about WvW

Shout Build: Why use Soldier's Gear?

in Warrior

lmaonade.9207

You wrote a big chunk of text about your stats that I didn’t really read, because your damage is still going to suck if you are in soldier gear. Any DPS you are managing to scrape out from your gear spread is from the zerker gear, not the soldier’s. You could drop the soldier pieces for clerics or any other similarly defense-only prefix and not notice much difference in the speed anything dies.

Again, if you want to tank, go conditions. That is why they exist, they’re the low-investment, moderate reward option for damage, versus direct damage which is high-investment, maximum reward.

Right, so being tanky yet hitting between 4k-9k crits with pvt armor + knights / zerk trinkets without even trying is weak. Got it.

Under the same conditions with full zerker you could hit for a lot more, so yes, PVT will always be relatively weak to Berserker’s,

I really don’t get these kinds of arguments, you’re posting arbitrary numbers in attempt to do what? To show that PVT can potentially outdamage Berserker’s? Because if so, then you’re fighting an uphill battle my friend, common sense shows that Berserker’s will always, absolutely, as a law of nature, out damage PVT.

just something I threw together, Healing Signet ticks for 467, Regen ticks over 300, Adrenal Health ticks for 586/3s or 195 per second. Ample condition removal, ample toughness, ample HP. Banner has a healing skill on it (heals for 1k ish), can swap around traits as you please. The reason I didn’t use Melandru’s Runes is that I’m assuming with this kind of build you are trying to troll zergs and not die, since you don’t need this kind of survival to survive normal outmanned situations. So – condition duration is actually really useless here, since 30% of a million seconds of bleed is still forever. Lyssa runes for a cleanse, hard cleanses are worth much more for 1 vs world. But if you find yourself up against paltry numbers like maybe 10 to 15 people, use Melandru’s and poultry soup.

Also, I don’t know how you haven’t found something “noteworthy” because there is really only 1 way you can go if you’re looking for a nothing but defense build, which is 30 in defense with obvious traits and 30 in tactics with obvious traits.

Please add this medium armor into the game.

Any good dual axe builds for pve and wvw?

in Warrior

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

it’s mainly the axe off-hand that sucks, axe main hand is good for any game mode because it’s focus on raw damage, but if you don’t have anything to complement it (axe off-hand doesn’t complement it) then you’re really wasting an off-hand weapon slot.

Engineers are different because each weapon kit serves a niche at the very least, while axe off-hand for warrior does nothing that you can’t get passively, whirling axe actually decreases DPS (according to other people), and dual strike gives fury which warriors can maintain permanently already.

the cost of taking axe off-hand is already great (since you get nothing out of it), the opportunity costs are even greater, taking axe means you can’t take shield, mace, or warhorn, any of which would boost your characters prowess somehow and complement the axe very well.

Armor diminishing returns

in Warrior

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

It kicks in, for reference you can look up a damage formula and see how damage interacts with armor. As a rule of thumb, in order to halve current damage, you have to double current armor, for example base armor for level 80 Heavy Armors is 2127, in order to get 50% damage reduction you will have to add an additional 2127 toughness for a total of 4254 armor.

But the main thing you’re going to be watching for when building your character is opportunity costs rather than diminishing returns, what can you get if you sacrifice xxx amount of toughness for other armor sets?

None of my builds exceed 3k armor (partly because I’m a damage junkie), I usually go for a balance (I’m assuming this is for WvW?)

As for the bang for your buck just remember rules of thumb like shoulders, hands, feet give you more crit damage for your buck, power scales very very well, etc.

For your specific situation, there was a thread on the effectiveness of toughness vs vitality and some number crunching to go with it, I’ll try to find it again

Edit:

This is a decent thread on the math behind damage, and he has a general rule of “how to allocate your next 10 points in vitality vs toughness” so that might be helpful for you.

Warrior VS Necro

in Warrior

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

If you’re dueling, use a mace instead of a hammer. Hammer’s for multiple targets, and mace skull crack dominates a single opponent. You can use skull crack to set up your other weapon (a lot of warriors love to skull crack into 100b).

Also, shouts? Why shouts? Run a stability utility of your choice (balanced or dolyak), zerk stance to nullify conditions, and then whatever you feel you need for the last utility (stomp, bolas, fear, adrenaline signet, cure conditions signet).

Shouts with soldier runes and certain traits: 2x Shake it off(4 condis removed), Fear Me, For Great Justice, 6 condis removed and also heals 1000-2000 per shout. The shouts doesn’t only affect myself but also teamates near me. That’s why shouts.

I tried berserker stance but the necro just waited it to wear off, I had balance stance, wore off before I got the Necro killed, and third was bull rush (opponent had lyssa runes like me and blocked my knock downs and if I succeed to knock him down he just does something else (mainly fears me). When I get him low he chills me and heals. Sometimes I’m supriced how fast their healing cooldowns goes down.

My weapons were first sword shield longbow, but then I changed to axe shield longbow. Works so good on every other class than Necro. I wonder if the GS is really so good in PvP?

On my Condition build he mainly transfered my condition back to me Condition transfer ruins my condition build. Or rather counters.

I could make dueling videos with that Necro, he is a guildie and we dueled this time in sPvP.

Also he had quite often Protection boon ruining my evis with axe :/ Chill was the worst though.

Shake It Off is absolutely terrible. 1 condition every 25 seconds. The trait is 20 in a useless trait line, for 1 condition every 30 seconds. With soldier runes and 3 shouts, you sacrifice all offensive potential, all self-utility, and the majority of your defense for a gimmicky healing shout build that can kill nothing.

There’s a reason shout builds haven’t been a thing since BWE1.

You would end a fight with a condition necromancer at 90-100% health using the GS+M/S builds. Cleansing Ire + Signet of Stamina + Berserker Stance is much more condition removal than what you’re going to get from a shout build, and you end fights much quicker and put on much more pressure to the necro.

Cleansing Ire is 3-6 conditions every 7 seconds, Signet of Stamina is a full condition cleanse every 45 seconds (which is 15 seconds less than Signet of Spite), and Berserker Stance is invulnerability from conditions for 8/10 seconds every 45 seconds. What do you mean the necro just waited for Berserker Stance to wear off? Did you twiddle your thumbs for the duration? He literally can do nothing to stop you. Again, warriors hard counter necromancers.

Ehm… 2x 2condition removals + 3000ish healing with 2 Shake It Off. +1500ish healing and cc from Fear me(also a panic escape skill). For great justice, 1500ish healing, dps incrace(I also proc from power as I crit with 47% crit rate). 20-60s cd on those shouts. I would like to duel with u using this build of mine. I just want to show it. PM Leo Frost in game.

Other than that, tried gs mace shield, almost got him. It was so nice. I kept him so pressured he went fully defensive. He was too tanky for my combo and when balance stance wore off his trait feared me always when I stunned him. I bet if I would have succeeded better with combos I would have won. For now he still stays as kitten beater (that sounds bad, anet)

I thought you made the thread for suggestions on how to win a duel with a Terror Necro, not flaunt your shouts build.

The reason you never use a shout build in a duel is that shout builds are support builds, if you have no one to support (since it’s a duel) you are essentially doing nothing. Balanced Stance/Dolyak Signet, Berserker’s Stance, and a utility of choice, dueling build get.

So far in my testing it only works with Ele summoned weapons.

Traveller's rune and its uses...

lmaonade.9207

How exactly does it free up anything?

you can easily swap Signet of the Hunt in and out because you never use its active anyway, it’s not like Guardian perma-swift that requires staff and 2 utility slots.

Now this is an honest question, because I cannot see the use in it, I can just swap any 25% movement signet in a build and swap it out later when I’m done running to places, or I’m about to enter combat, this is especially true for PvE. As for WvW, the only time you WON’T be able to swap it out is if you were ambushed, if it were by a big group, 1 extra utility wouldn’t save you (in fact the MS will just help you run more successfully), and if by a singular target then I’d reckon the bonus from not taking Traveler’s and taking a more focused rune set will balance out the loss of 1 utility slot anyway.

No one is forcing you to care about achievements you know. If they annoy you why do you care if you’ve killed 327/500 ogres?

As to “forcing you to play”…You choose to care about the rewards they are “time gating”, so you are forcing yourself to play. No one from Anet has a gun to your head telling you to participate. I hardly ever participate in that type of content, to the point where I’m not sure what you are actually referencing but I understand what time gating is.

tl;dr: Not having fun anymore? Stop playing. I’m glad you had an intelligent well thought out post though. Most people just whine. Maybe Anet will see this, maybe not. You tried.

You know, maybe it doesn’t matter to you, but it might disturb other people to realize that they’ve been playing the same exact game upon release for over a year since you’ve stated that you don’t participate in that type of content. Achievements are tied to every new update now and not doing them means the rest of the game is largely the same, and guess what? some people might have finished the base game and are looking for quality updates from Anet, only to be disappointed by checklist mentality and poor direction of each and every living story update.

Some people love this game and others are trying very hard to love it, if you’d take a step back and look at it from someone else’s perspective you’d see that though it’s not as drastic as Anet holding a gun to your head, it’s something pretty close to it.

I totally miss the trinity, I was one of the few kinds of players who made a tank class as a main and later made a healer class as an alt.

GW2 could’ve been fine without the trinity but the only reason that you’re feeling “nothing is special” is that PvE has no special mechanics, everything can be blasted through with DPS and no mechanics counter it at all, not to mention w/o a dedicated healer everyone can just weave some support and heals into their builds and you end up with 5 solo players coordinating a task instead of a true group.

lmaonade.9207

I am looking for a guild that doesn’t mind limited rep and online time, since I don’t normally play 7 days a week, and am often with my other guild in the daytime (I prioritize them because I know them), they aren’t often on at night (PST) when I am usually on for a while, so I am looking for a guild to pass that time with, possibly do some dungeons, chat a bit, some guild missions, and maybe even some WvW and sPvP (internet unstable so most likely not) if I’m on for an extended period of time. (you may think of me as a glorified guild mission guest if you wish, but I generally do warm up to people and become quite active when I become familiar)

I know all of this will deter most guilds away, but hopefully I’ll get lucky with one that doesn’t mind someone like me.

With the above parameters I doubt the following will matter much, but as for what I can contribute to any guild is that I am pretty much a vet of this game, been playing since headstart, have 4 level 80s, about 1.2k hours into the game total.
I know the ins and outs of pretty much every dungeon (except SE, that’s the only dungeon I’m missing for the Dungeon Master title), and am willing to help newer players become familiar with content (I am a chronic over-explainer so it may get annoying, just tell me to shut it though I won’t take offense).
I also am a theory crafter and hand built many of the builds that my current guild is using for any sort of content, I do not hesitate in sharing “secrets” or “sweet spots” for new builds and am always tweaking my own, so any advice sought of me I would be happy to give.

Thanks for the consideration!

With this incredible way of thinking, perhaps we’ll never need to implement content again in a way that multiple types of players can access it. Just think of how easy that will make things.

Perhaps next time, the new items can come from Liadri style fights. I’d like that personally, I know I could beat the content. Who cares if a large portion of the player base most likely wouldn’t be able to, right? That’s fair eh?

sorry won’t happen, this game was designed with sPvP in mind, look at the “evolution” between mechanics of gw1 and 2, active combat systems like enchantments and hexes are removed in favor of autonomous systems like boons that suffer from something I like to call “just stack it” syndrome, instead of encouraging trade offs and decisions, the game encourages mindless stacking, just stack boons, stack conditions, stack on top of each other, stack materials, stack wars 2.

GW1 was a balancing nightmare, everyone knew it. To counteract this problem they designed this game with “balance” in mind at the expense of active gameplay, and threw in a dodge mechanic to tide us over.

That being said, the condition nerf will come and it will be ugly, so brace yourselves

There are plenty of ways to avoid damage (arguably even more ways) in a DPS build, for one thing if you invest at least 15 points into radiance you get a spammable AoE blind during trash mob encounters, that more than makes up for survivability issues since you’ll likely not get hit much if at all, during boss encounters you’ll roughly have the same since 300 toughness isn’t going to save you much damage when the boss deals so much with a single hit

+25% Movement Speed

in Guardian

Posted by: lmaonade.9207

lmaonade.9207

Well I personally love them. I view them as an opportunity cost.

For instance on my thief, I could slot scholar, but would need to use the movement signet. If I slot traveler, I can slot the power signet. I actually gain power and other stats, the true opportunity cost was movement speed versus 10% more damage when above 90% hp. So even for my thief its a decent trade off.

For the guardian it’s even more pronounced. The build I normally use for pve already had perma swiftness but had to use retreat+sy!+staff 3. Switching to travelers lets me free up a utility AND a weapon slot. I can slot bane signet, so the opportunity cost again is movement speed vs 10% DMg above 90% hp.

It was well worth the trade off. I can technically get 2 utilities and a different off weapon with my build now that I’m not locked in.

you could just swap the staff and “Retreat” out when you’re about to get into combat…

Because apparently the nodes respawn upon daily reset now (or something like that) rather than 24 hours because I manage to nab them 2 times on the same character within a 5 hour timeframe (once before reset and once after), so I was guessing that it might have something to do with the fact that I’ve already farmed the nodes for today. But at the same time Ori and Omnoms still spawned so it makes no sense at all

Ancient Wood and Ori nodes usually spawn in different places after a patch… like the one we had today.

Not sure about the teams, but 2 of the 3 founders of Arenanet were confirmed to have left some time during development (or after, I’ve forgotten which and if anyone can confirm that would be great), look up Jeff Strain and Patrick Wyatt.

Ancient Saplings removed from latest patch?

No Ancient Saplings in CS or Malchor’s, and no it’s not because I’ve already farmed it because Orichalcum and Omnomberry nodes spawned just fine

it’s WvW, much of the Player vs Player action is 2nd rate, most WvW players may have learned meta tactics and strategy designed for map dominance, but few of them have the actual PvP down.

That being said, I enjoyed your vid thoroughly, nicely done.

Finally got a fun and balance build

Or maybe OP meant balance as in balanced in offensive and supportive traits?

Besides, many here claim that a person can be “DPS focused” with Knight’s or Soldier’s or some other thing, so why can’t Berserker’s be balanced?

Make shield #4 inflict weakness

Pfft, why not give it fury and quickness too with the stun?

I think a 20 sec cooldown and about a 3sec protection would make for nice gameplay that rewards combat awareness.

that would be the case if protection weren’t so easy to apply, right now you can faceroll and have 50% uptime on protection, or with a hammer press 1 and do nothing else ever for perma protection.

Shield 4 is simply underpowered
