I like how you use the word ‘Kid’.
MMOs morphed into a more casual style because of adults with busy lives and less time to play, not kids.
I would think that adults want something worthwhile to do, something that makes them feel good or accomplished for however much time they’re putting in, not smack 50 things for 20 times for some achievement points and a mini
Also why would time gated content appeal at all to people with less time to play?
I’ve seen this elitist “my way or the highway” mentality in too many MMO’s, and I’ve seen the inevitable outcome. Perhaps this scenario sounds familiar?
[8:05PM]Player1: lf1m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR OR GTFO!!!
[8:06PM]Player2: hey I want to do that dungeon, but I don’t have that specific gear…
[8:06PM]Player1: GTFO!!!
[8:17PM]Player1: lf1m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR OR GTFO!!!
[8:25PM]Player1: lf1m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, pst
[8:25PM]Player3: I’m down, invite pls
[8:26PM]Player1: do you have specific gear?
[8:26PM]Player3: no, but I know the run and have done it many times
[8:27PM]Player1: GTFO!!!
[8:45PM]Player1: lf2m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR!!!
[9:07PM]Player1: lf1m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR!!!
[9:53PM]Player1: lf3m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR!!!
[10:47PM]Player1: lf1m for (dungeon), 5 minute run, MUST HAVE SPECIFIC GEAR!!!
[11:27PM]Player1: (dungeon) run full, everyone who didn’t come is missing out on our amazing 5 minute run…suckers!Yep, having specific gear sure saves a lot of time…
that person must’ve traited for “Slow of Mind,” that and who uses in game chat for LFGs anymore?! get with times!
anyways, niche groups are niche, people in zerkers gear can have their fun while other people have theirs, I don’t see why this simple suggestion thread turned into such a kittenstorm. I swear we can’t have one single thread about armor stats without it turning into “zerker people are smelly and mean” and/or “non zerker people are carebears and stupid”
depends on the setting, in WvW Warrior hammer is devastating, combined with the immobilize traits you can lock down groups of people for a long time.
in PvE I’d say Guardian hammer, perma protection and a low cooldown blast finisher trumps anything that the Warrior hammer can bring
And then you’ll be me, with slightly different gear. I don’t know what your point is.
I never said it was less viable at boon slinging. Not once. My original comment was in response to a guy that was claiming that he could do just as well at sharing Might as I could, using scholar runes. Scholar runes. Which you don’t use. Ergo, there’s nothing to argue about.
yes, my bad sorry about that. I didn’t see the scholar rune part and took your argument as a “Berserker’s armor can’t do x,y,z as well as blank.”
Run full berserker, 0/30/0/30/10.
someone didnt read. thats the guardian dps build
0/30/0/30/10, take full berserker, signet of judgement, perfect inscriptions, writ of exaltation, writ of persistence, pure of voice, and last to tie it all together: Hammer
permanent AoE protection assuming boon duration runes (even better now with the massive symbols), party condition removal, massive % damage reduction, makes zerker look tanky
it’ll depend on what your current armor is at, doubling current armor halves current damage (as a rule of thumb) so 10% becomes more and more valuable as you have higher and higher armor.
Right. 60%. Which is less than a hundred.
I can easily trait 20 more points in virtues and eat some boon duration food to push it to 100%, what’s your point?
Also, it’s not like anyone’s taking boon duration as an armor stat, how exactly is zerker armor less viable at boon slinging than other armors, or whatever you’re wearing?
(edited by lmaonade.9207)
there are a lot of theorycrafters on community sites, I’d suggest guru if you’re looking for some in depth info.
also, DPS is heavily dependent on circumstance, otherwise under perfect conditions on a single target:
“Scepter > Greatsword > Sword > Hammer > Mace > Staff”
with credit to GuanglaiKangyi
of course this was the info of a couple of months ago, but it should still hold true since not much was changed.
As for traiting weapons, I’d say something like,
For Scepter and Sword, take 20 and 10 in Zeal respectively, 30 in Radiance for Right Handed Strength (and sword trait for sword), also works for mace but the DPS on it is poor overall and wouldn’t make much of a difference whether or not you trait for its damage.
For GS and Hammer, take 25 in Zeal, 25 in Radiance, and 20 in Honor, taking damage traits, the GS trait for GS, and symbol traits in honor (mainly persistence, more ticks on your symbols, affects Hammer more than GS but important to both).
Just some trait combos that synergize well with the weapon, they may or may not be optimal for raw DPS under some arbitrary circumstance but they are good for general use. That and you asked for some trait tips.

I’m a zerker guardian with scholar runes and i also bring might to my team, OH MY GOD THIS IS GAMEBREAKING.
No, really, healing power sucks in PvE. :/
Not like me, you don’t. You’ve got EM, right? 3-4 stacks at peak.
I have 12 stacks running permanently by myself just with staff. 100% might duration means you lose the stacks right as the cooldown comes up again. I also run hammer, which means 40 second fire blasts. Also, if I do run EM, it lasts twice as long, yielding 6-8 stacks on average. I can get a team to 12 might stacks at the beginning of a fight and work up to 25 by myself and keep them up indefinitely as long as there are things to kill. I also run Permeating Wrath, so my condition damage is now over a thousand, and I’m burning everything in the room as well as pulling the already above average AOE damage from the hammer. My AOE damage is a lot better than the typical sword/focus + greatsword DPS matchup.
And anyway, this isn’t an argument about what’s better. “Best” is only a priority for me in as much as I make the best possible build to suit my other goals, of which “fun to play” ranks highest. Healing Power isn’t strictly needed, because you can sleepwalk through most content with your traits shotgunned all over the board and it won’t matter. But green numbers are fun, and the only people that complain about them are the berserkers who are angry that I’m not running full berserker.
How exactly did this argument switch from Healing Power to might stacking? And you’re wrong about not bringing the might stacks like you, my hammer build takes full zerk, 2x monk, 2x water, 2x [insert might duration runes], with 10 in virtues, that’s 60% might duration which pushes EM to 8 seconds and other might sources higher also obviously, virtually permanent protection uptime, and I can still blast in fire fields for maximum stackage. Just because I take full berserker’s armor does not mean I can’t also take options for boon slinging also
Zerker, from a pragmatic point of view, you’ll get to a point in the game where you’ll know most of the mechanics of every mob type, dungeon, boss, etc. out there, and will know what to do to counter said mechanics. At that point there will be absolutely 0 point in getting defensive stats such as vitality and toughness as you’ll rarely down again. In my opinion, it is better to skip straight to the point and wear zerker armor and learn the mechanics the hard way, I may go down and die a few times but hey, I deal tons of damage and will eventually stop dying.
I am always in zerker armor when roaming open world and when dungeoning, but i keep spare armor (not PVT, I’m a crit junkie so I can’t stand anything that takes away from my crit chance) with defensive stats to deal with content that requires/recommends it, such as WvW or things like the Queen’s Gauntlet.
Although you’ll most likely not be part of speed run crews (just assuming so because the majority of players aren’t), Zerker, imo, is still the way to go (unless you’re doing condition builds, but since this is the Guardian forums you’re unlikely to go that route anyway). It’s just more fun, I see big numbers to satisfy my ego, and it keeps me on my toes when I’m facing a difficult foe.

Also no plate armor bikinis either. On topic, I like particle effects but they do impede mixing and matching. A toggle for them would be perfect.
Have you tried the Gladiator’s Chest + Orrian Leg combo?
oh man those days, to think that we used sigil of intelligence to get 100% crits on swapped eviscerates lol
they are good at bringing the cheese since they’ve got 100 blades worth of it.
You don’t HAVE to do PvE to get these skins. You do get achievement points from PvP. You just will get them faster if you do both… just like PvErs will get them faster if THEY do PvP dailys too.
I fail to see what all the huff n puff is about, it’s just skins.

Saw that coming from a mile away
will we start seeing more permanent content or at least content with permanent effects on the open world? Not talking about mini games or the time limited weapons through boxes, talking about maybe a dungeon, or having one of the living world stories really affect the geography of certain maps, that would certainly be a “living world” by definition.
get him away from his symbols (most likely takes symbols heal) and load up burst as best as you can, imo the one daze you have is usually enough since the only thing you can realistically interrupt is his main heal, your first build is actually better equipped to fight a guardian (imo) because boon stealing is pretty important against a boon-slinger class.
my advice is basically spray and pray, interrupt his heal skill and hope to high heavens that your burst will be enough to take him down before he can load up a block/symbol/some form of healing.
that or you could try a more glassy type shatter build, 10/30/0/0/30 with GS for zerker phantasm.
Death Match mode
and more tPvP modes, keep the 2-teams, but add back in things like the 8 team tournament.
Would it be possible to get leaderboards for guilds in spvp? Similar to how it worked in gw1. If you have at least 3 players on the team that are from the same guild it would count towards their ranking, and this would be published on the official leaderboards.
wouldn’t really be taken too seriously, since a player can just join multiple guilds and stuff, it still mostly boils down to which players are the best, rather than which guild.
It worked in GW1 because guild memberships were more… enclosed, for lack of a better word, an account was bound to 1 single guild and only that single guild until you left.
I disagree with the notion that it wouldn’t be taken seriously. Top tier guilds will still only recruit top tier players. Being a top tier player, you wouldn’t be stuck in one guild either.
In gw1 there were alliances where guilds basically shared players. Several top tier guilds would form an alliance, similar to the gw2 multi-guild function in a backwards sort of way.
Or maybe top tier players will be subject to things like “sponsership” and such to play for certain guilds, so you basically have 20+ guilds on the leaderboard but all of those games were won by the same exact people. That’s not exactly different from a players leaderboard, except to the guilds themselves.
How would it be taken seriously if all the top tier guilds shared players? I don’t even see how it could be taken seriously by themselves, since they aren’t competing with each other or other people (since they dominate the ladder)

Guardian works well, they’re both sturdy, and while Necros have an abundance of combo fields, Guardians have an abundance of combo finishers (certain weapon types of course).
Mesmer also works very well, Necros can lay down AoE conditions while the Mesmer lays down AoE direct burst damage, they complement each other pretty well. And the Mesmer clones can distract the enemy from the Necromancer since currently they are a high value target.
Ranger Spirit builds combined with minion Necros are hilarious, the number of targets/distractions you can put out in a fight is too kitten high, this kind of combo limits what sort of builds you can run ofc, so I’d say this is a reach and the above 2 will be better.

MILLIONS of glory. Dude, I’m rank 42 and I’m only sitting on an extra 120k Glory.
Millions may not be so steep since you need to get to rank 80 for tier 3 cultural armor (as far as i know anyway) and that takes like 9 million glory to reach
a new build available in the next hour or 2"
Please add “do not queue up for tournament PvP games because you will not be able to enter”
Thank you.
Add Guild vs. Guild and Heroes Ascent. Things that existed in Guild Wars 1. Hell, Guild Wars 2 GvG can have a DOTA style, that would be awesome!
I hate the fact they removed competitive PvP from the game completely and added NvN, Necromancers vs. Necromancers.
Heroes Ascent PLEASE!
especially Hall of Heroes, I’ve always loved 3 way battles (even if they can get a bit biased sometimes)
Arena net definitely should have promoted this tournament more. Maybe there was a specific reason that they didn’t? I would like to see a developer respond to this inquiry.
I didn’t see much player promotion for the tournament either. Was there a form thread in these forums prior to the tournament?
the specific reason is that Anet doesn’t care, the player community doesn’t really care either for the most part, the sPvP community is pretty small compared to the overall game population.
well I guess it is about time Necros had their time to shine (even though they were still pretty good pre patch they just weren’t as popular).
Still have to do something about warriors, and Mesmers, yeah they have been on top since the beginning.
Warriors have been on the bottom since the beginning
Not true, back in beta warriors were fotm for their 100 swags.
Since release they have been at the bottom, but not beginning ;o
Troy Baker is pretty famous for his work on localizing games, he did Kanji in Persona 4 if anyone’s played that
a lot of the human NPCs (some of the random ministers and merchants) are also voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who is pretty famous for his dubbing of Simon the digger from Gurren Lagaan (he also did Yosuke from Persona 4 and was the MC in Persona 3)
But yeah the voice acting in this game is pretty good, the writing itself is somewhat inconsistent so some of that acting brilliance is lost. But overall, I’ve enjoyed the acting in this game, Trahearne still needs to go away forever though.

% == “better than % of players under top 1000”
there is a hidden “rating” they don’t ever show for each player (rlly stupid imo),
you get more of it for winning vs players with high rating than you do for winning vs low ratingalright thanks
ratings would be way better, this is just totally confusing
Careful what you wish for. While it would be more transparent to just show ratings people would be able to determine the forumla for the rating system if this was done and it would lead to people gaming the system.
What they have currently does not work. That is not a point of debate. If they made the formula public I think it would actually get worse, because any system that so readily rates inactives high and has so much volatility with low sample size is begging to be exploited. You would basically get try hards that aren’t all that good figuring out how exactly to get an unbeatable rank in a relative few games playing some off peak games and flooding the ladder. Once in top ladder spots they’d play a few games a week to avoid decay and basically lock the ladder. There are already people that guessed close enough to accomplish this (even if you look at the first page it is full of inactives).
hmm fair enough, I’d settle for a more robust FAQ then
but yeah crazy confusing, I just lost 2 more games and game out with a higher rank…

yes I’ve read the FAQ, and am still confused about the %’s for rank we get, is a higher percentage or lower percentage better?
the main reason I’m confused is that when I look at the leaderboards with it filtered for my guild and/or friends list, the rank percentage seems all over the place.
I’m personally at 19/16 win loss, and at 38% rank, while a guildie of mine who is at 36/29 with 49% rank
and on the flip side I also have a guildie who is at a negative w/l at 8x%, and another with a positive w/l also at 8x% rank =_=
it just seems super confusing and I would like to know what actually constitutes as a better rank, and what sort of metrics could affect it so much that win/loss actually matters that little.
GW2 is like a carnival. It’s fun to pass the time and look at all the cool sideshows, but there is no overall epic adventure. Just mindless wandering.
Quoting the OP from another topic:
Do you honestly think most MMO players are thinking “oh sweet I cant wait for this awesome challenge in this dungeon”…no they want to get that sweet rare reward at the end.
So no, you are not looking for any “overall epic adventure”. By your words, all you want is “mindless” grind. I’m happy that there isn’t enough of the gear grind you want in this game.
kitten alert.
Sorry that you feel the world works in a one track way, because it doesn’t. I enjoyed GW1 for the way it executed its story, the story itself wasn’t good but it was a journey that few games could match.
I feel sorry for you that you aren’t able to see something amazing like this.
Hmm, what Aetherblade has taught me? Various things.
1. Never do it with a PUG. Self-explanatory, probably.
2. Finally, condition remove might be useful in PvE.
3. I’ll probably go back to 30 Honor, PoV is too nice.
4. Full zerker still stomps the other stuff into the ground.
yeah condition removal is ultra valuable
In terms of overall power level they’re quite even now. Even Stomp looks like a lot of fun. It could be pretty trollish to run all 3.
That + rampage and hammer would probably be one of the better attempts at warrior bunker lol
What do you think about Warhorn in this build Defektive, I accidentally forgot to switch to shield for a match and it went pretty well, granted the other team was full of direct damage folks so the weakness really shook em up, and the swiftness helps me roam around faster.
It has no boon conversion but still can be a valuable off hand
I just wish Dolyaks passive was properly balanced with a Guardians Signet of Judgement.
Judgement reduces incoming damage by 10%
Dolyak adds 180 toughness, which is about 6%?
Signet of Judgement doesn’t give stability, which is a much more useful boon than retaliation, especially to guardians who have an abundance of retaliation elsewhere
Occasionally I stop to inspect some person who looks really good in their armor, either from a really good mix and match or from a really good dye job
I use a pair of Audio Technicas
Well we got a lot of warriors who refuse to to use this, but complain about no sustain.
Thats because you can’t get to 500+ per tick in full zerkers gear and ruby orbs
That’s exactly it. So much of the complaining about the lack of sustainability and the lack of crowd control countermeasures comes from the players who refuse to do anything but stack offense on top of offense.
Sustain shouldn’t a trade off for damage, unlike any other class, where you can build both damage AND sustain very well. Having to build a high amount of HP to sustain and giving up all damage is NOT balance
Every class that wants sustain takes HP with toughness and maybe a little vitality. What class can build sustain with full zerk? None. I want some of what you are smoking.
If sustain is HP with toughness and vitality, then why are we talking about Adrenal Health? I thought sustain was defined as health regeneration values here, and if that’s the case then warrior has some of the worst, 9k on Adrenaline Surge might be awesome, but it’s a trade off of not using your burst skills, and Adrenal Health is still dismal in terms of regeneration strength, 100 per second at 3 bars of adrenaline is pretty low if you’re a burst user.
Warriors are tanky as kitten, and can build that way pretty well, but in a fight that lasts a long time, warriors would lose out hard due to attrition.
yes it’s decent
I actually run a dual sword/longbow build myself in sPvP with 0/30/0/20/20, it’s very decent in a power build now. took the extra 10 in tactics for “Shrug it off” because warriors are still extremely susceptible to conditions (even more so now with the new blind).
The fixed OH sword block is lovely for kiting and fighting ranged people.
can’ t use my dual sword build anymore
depends on how you used it, I’m starting to use dual swords, sword MH works much better with power builds now, and the block on sword OH now works VERY well for encounters with heavy hitting projectiles like Lupicus.
People get Warrior’s Sprint (at least I do) because you keep that 25% move speed increase while in combat. Swiftness move speed buff doesn’t work if you’re in combat. At least this makes Warriors harder to kite, especially with the added Dogged March.
Anyways, just my two cents. (:
lolwut…
When someone hits you while you’re in Swiftness, you lose the move speed increase whereas Warrior’s Sprint move speed increase stays with you even when you’re in combat.
This is incorrect.
You have an out of combat (ooc) movement speed, and an in combat movement speed.
Swiftness in terms of its movement speed gain, isn’t affected by this, it’s just the different changes in movement depending on if you’re in combat.
I don’t recommend anyone picking up the +25% movement speed considering how easy it is to spam SoR.
Wait, what. I thought it was the same as the Thief’s Signet of Shadows?
That sucks… :T Scrap what I said!
It is the same as SoS, and any other movement increasing signet, they are all affected by combat
I thought this would be a new weapon concept

Yeah, that’s why i’m fine with final thrust but i still think it should be better to warrant it’s own skill slot. (mainly the range) And wouldn’t the cripple at the start of the auto-atk make Opportunist even better? lol.
you’re right it would make it even better, but I guess it would make too much sense
depends on where you use it, in sPvP i like the change, the cripple changes means you have on demand cripple to activate several traits (Leg Specialist → Opportunist), it frees up a slot on my utility bar since I won’t have to take FGJ to have on demand fury any more (especially as a solo roamer), you stick to your target like cement, an upgrade from the previous glue.
The Final Thrust changes gave it a lot more burst damage, which makes double swords an extremely viable weapon, Rip + Final Thrust = about 11k damage in a second.
But yes overall DPS suffers, however the new auto attack chain is also a bit faster, which is also nice. And it seems Anet doesn’t know where they want to go with the sword, so they’re just keeping it a hybrid weapon that could work for either direct or condition damage builds, but isn’t the best in either.
Overall, I like the changes, it’s all about personal preference though
