I really don’t see why you should nerf this?

Its the same dmg like every other profession does when specced into glass … really no difference.

Perhaps it’s becuase nobody expects the ng to do burst dmg ?

You are running full berserker and a gun, defensive options are limited, so its absolutly fine.

Don’t you think a 1v1 Paid Team Setup will rock ??

It’s much easiert to get 2 even ranked teams versus each other that in a 8team pool.
+the entry fees would be lower , and so the reward, but this will be absolutely fine i think.

And about the “rant” that the entry prices are too high, guys this game is f2p after the inital purchase , in other games there is a monthly fee most of the time.

If you dont want to spend RL money, you can always do a little bit PvE / WvW to grind the needed money. Or play the TP if you know how to do it.

thief gameplay is not like wow rogue gameplay, you cannot compare the combat mechanics ( well you can compare them, but the whole game is different ).

You cannot do some cs → bs-bs → kidney → bs kitten .
And you don’t need to, because there are no unkillable healers in this game.

There are some bunkers, but they will not be able to heal / keep other people alive like it’s in wow…

You could specc P/D and have some fun, or D/D and try to “one-shot” people , or go D/P and do the same with more survivability and the possibility to back off more often.

But remember GW2 is not wow2.0 .. so no stealthing around and killing people who are low on HP, which was lame anyway.

You can for sure HotJoin and try the same there, it will work sometimes, but i wont work the other times, and you will get one-shottet yourself.

I would however recommend to play tPvP , its much much more fun than the zerg play that happens in hot-joins all day long.

You can play s/d there, but you will ne someone who dishes out the dmg while you daze-lock the nmy.

Or just play D/D and burst them, but this will allow them to move / use skills, unless you only engage when you have basilisk venom up.

If that’s what you define “fun”.

You however will only have this combo every 45seconds.

Basilisk venom → cloak’n’dagger → steal ( whil still channeling c’n’d ) → backstab [ hs spam ].

This is like a WoW shadowstep → CS → ambush/bs spam. Followed by very hart hitting eviscerates.

We need to stop complaining fast and why

Lol , this is really funny you know.

In other forums the baddies come in and QQ about how OP the skill X or profession Y is, and in the engieers forum the baddies come and QQ about their own skills….

Engineer is freaking awesome, of course only in the hands of a skilled player.
The engineer is even close to OP in certain situations IF you are willing to min-max them !

This lies in the ability of the class to adapt so well , this is something that many other “OP” classes are missing.

They only can dish out dmg, perhaps little support but thats it …

And you know what the best things is about all this, Anet won’t listen because they actually play their own game, and they know very well if someting is in line or needs a slight buff / nurf

Hows GW2 pvp balance compared to WoW?

You cannot compare the PvP at all right now.

GW2 is about Capture&Hold and WoW is about 3v3 last man standing.
I sometimes watch reckfuls stream to get an idea about how the balance is, and although its really fun to watch GW2 is way more attracting.

The ability to dodge alone is soo rewarding !!

WoW is still all about Gear + Setup, GW2 despite is about Setup + tactic, as everybody has access to excatily the same things.

Also, if you read patchnotes / blueposts on sites like mmo-champion.com you will understand blizzards philsophy vs. anet philosophy.

In a Game like WoW there are often dmg tweaks where a skill gets 100% more dmg from one patch to the other, or cd reductions from 3min → 2mins.

Changes like this clearly show, that blizzard gives a kitten about balance.
Otherwise these changes would have been in the game long before.

Where Anets changes, are minor in most cases ( 50%dmg nerv on dancing dagger aside.. ).

The only positive in WoW PvP is the Arena imho.

If Anet would create a 4v4 or 3v3 last man standing mode, this would attract many
pvp players from other games.

Of course there would / could be some fotm setups then, but everything can be countered by setup. Even a 4 man Guardian Team for example.
They could perhaps also forbid to enter with the same professions, so a team must consist of 3/4 different classes.

I would love some other game mode than capture and hold, and i am confident in Anet.

They will give us a ladder-system shortly, and perhaps even the ability to rent private servers.

You will then see some comunit driven tournaments and even a 3v3 seems possible in the near future.

I hope that many of the WoW ArenaPros will then take a look in GW2 PVP, as this
would bring many many more players.

A big playerbase is needed for a game to be successfull in the long run.

It’s these players who come to the thief forum all day and QQ about perma stealth … another proof that it’s always a L2P issue, thanks for the evidence dude.

I haven’t mastered the thief class, I tried it and I do ok with it, and I do feel like I put some people in hopeless situation with a p/d build where they can’t do crap to me. Yes the argument of learning the class is valid, but don’t you think people have done so? And don’t you think there’s something wrong when a class requires you to do so significantly more than other classes?

No, people have NOT done so far.
Because otherwise they would autoattack in the air , and dodge / block after 2 seconds.

It is absolutly okay that way !

There are classes that are harder to master than others, therefore the harder to master one are way more versatile ( engineer / elementalist ).
Once people will learn that you will realize the QQ in these forums….

Its easy to pull of good dmg as thief, however the good thief is the one that also plays a good defensive role.

Take a warrior for example, its soooo easy to pull off big numbers, but thats just nothing of value in a envirnment like tPvP , which is , the only reliable place we can talk about balance.

No thief plays P/D in there, because it just has nothing that would help you to win fights ( points ).

Of course you can harass baddies in WvW , but there is so much more involved in WvW, like Gear ( even ascend gear ) , bufffood and also the different gearlevels.

There a plenty of vids from other classes that literally just oneshot people in WvW that its not a thief or stealth problem.

Take a good thief player and give him another class, he will do as good as before.
Give a bad XX player a thief, and he will still be as bad as he was before.

I always have to laugh when i do my daily PvP in sPvp, soo many thiefs, and 90% of them fail !
I really don’t know when i died the last time by a thief.

But well, Anet will know what they need to do, and i think they will “balance” other classes but not the thief – but we’ll see soon enough.

Stealth needs to drop on damage

Stealth is the thiefs only defense, you cannot just take it away …
Thiefs do still get damage when in stealth, this is just fine !

If you are to bad to understand that mechanic its your problem, not a stealth problem !

Good thiefs in sPvP will always own all the baddies, but so will good players on other classes.

For Wvwvw i can only say, there are so many other “OP” machanics / skills that i would not balance anything.

I really don’t know why people have so much problems with thiefs, they should really just reroll one for themselfs, to better understand the mechanics.

It’s the best thing in GW2 that you can actually create any class and have the best gear ingame and all stkills, to check out how this class plays / can be countered.

Thief burst - new combo?

The video was staged to show the bug, it’s not an actual in game footage, but thrust me it happened in paid tournament, that’s why we did research to know what was hapening.
I’ll make a resume of the video content because not everyone get it :
In a time windows of 1.5 seconds :
- 1.5 seconds is the duration of basilic venom’s stun.
- Thief is invisible (it’s ok for some class, but for necro, you can’t DS fear him and you’ll get an heartseeker with this exploit when other thief will be fear right after backstab).
- Does 4 skill in 1.5 seconds (clipping bug and haste make it possible).
- Does 17k damage to someone who has 3k1 armor.
- All this can be done using one macro, no skill required, high reward.

- Guard had no Aegis up which would have blocked at least 4k dmg
- Guard had several skills on cooldown and did not react at all, one dodge and ALL the attacks would have been avoided !
- C’n’d has a casting time, so you can see it
- if thief openes invis, he needs either his heal oder shadow refuge / blinding powder (3sec)
- if he stuns you he also used up his elite
- most likely he also used signet of shadows

so 2 utils + elite for 1 attack that can be AUTO blocked and dodged .. seems fair to me.

but thrust me it happened in paid tournament

-you should be aware of your surroundings, and your should communicate with your team to know where their thief is.

Let me explain to you:

thief clicking && zoom to nearly first person == bad player .

But nice to see that there are either enough bad players on other classes too or they are completely outgeared / lowlevel….

I mean, i really don’t know why you feel so offended ?
What did you expect ?

The people just rate your skill, some even give you tips to improve.
You attack nub players using all your utilities + elite and spam unload …. great play !

Currently running something like x/30/30/0/x with D/D or sometimes D/P .

Using Shadow Protector and Shadows Rejuvenation , and mostly shadow refuge + blinding powder.

Not only does this support the group quite good, it also alows to stay in melee .
You have perma regen and heal while in stealth + blind the enemy when entering stealth.. so he won’t hit you.

Sure there are some 1shot abilitys, you need to know them and dodge them.

But with this setup i am very successfull in PvE ( although i often use SB , there is just no need to go melee if there are more then 2 enemies … SB does more dmg )

Can these classes EVER be balanced? Doubt it.

The classes are fairly balanced ( aside certain bunker speccs ) , you can only solve this problem with some kind of matchmaking …

Otherwise new players will always get stomped if some expirienced comes into a hotjoin match to do his daily etc pp … .

WvWvW != tPvP ( E-sport ) !!!

The Max CrtiDmg one can achive in sPvP is much lower then anything one could get in WvWvW !

This alone will increase dmg very much.

Also as said many times, you did not DIE !
perhaps you had even frenzy up that time, we don’t know .

A 20k killshot ( as seen in this funny warrior vid ) would be a real one-hit to a thief ( or any other class with classcanon spec + gear . )

So please stop QQ-ing , you really have no clue about e-Sport / balance in this game, otherwise you would not post such a stupid topic !

Had the same issue today, on Legacy of the Foefire and kyhlo.

No voice, of base / lord is under attack but text appearing.
In kyhlo there was no voice for incoming treb fire.

clearly L2p issue again .

HS for 18k … sure dude , as mentioned before you would

a) only crit for around 6k if target is below 25%, and then you are dead for sure by just one

b) you only crit that high on classcanons, and then it’s okay, because if the thief gets hit by another gc he will die even faster .

c) you can avoid it, i can’t even count how often i dodged 2 Hs with just one dodge roll, or how often these baddies spamed all their Initiative in a defensive cooldown .

d) HS a bunker for ~1k is fine ….

And for stealth stomping:

you do realize that you can still use you interrupts ?
You do realize that a thief can only get stability through runes ( lyssa + elite ) or by stealing ?
How should you stomp anybody who knows what he is doing ?

Play pistol offhand all day ?
And then this still can be countered by a good player…

Stealth stomping is nowhere near OP, it just shows again that you don’t have a clue how to play agains thiefs, and this is a l2p problem.

Make your self a thief and go play some tPvP games, you will see what happens.

Then come back and report us, perhaps even make a video so we can help you to understand the thief gameplay..

PvP Wise:

Assassin’s Singet – 3/10 (wasted slot after nerf, cause autoattacks count in)
Infiltrator’s Singet – 7/10 (another teleport , quite good for P/D or S/P imho, precast #5 oder #3 and step)
Singet of Agility – 8/10 (very good vs heavy codition or burst teams !)
Singet of Shadows – 7/10 (blind is nice for stomping, runspeed also good, but i normally switch before engagin)

Spider Venom – 5/10 (only in V/share builds, other utils are just better)
Skale Venom – 2/10 (worst util ever imho)
Ice Drake Venom 4/10 (6 sec chill is nice, but recast much too long, besides VBuilds)
Devourer Venom 7/10 (Quite nice in many builds, even without VenomTraits)

Tripwire – 8/10 (i love it, 3 sec knowdown is very very good, also good when someone is chasing you, or you want to neutralitze a point)
Needle Trap – 2/10 ( nowhere as good as tripwire ! )
Shadow Trap – 6/10 ( only usefull in certain setups )
Ambush – 7/10 ( nice DPS boost + confusion , even better in Vshare builds)

Roll for Initiative – 5/10 ( only good in ranged builds, ini regen is nice, so is immobilze / snare removal, but it might roll you into a bad spot !)
Blinding Powder – 4/10 ( better if you run P/D where you need that stealth opener, otherwise i dont like it much)
Shadowstep – 10/10 ( mandatory in nearly every build, not only the stunbreaker &/ condition removal but also how you can fool nmy with this skill !!)
Scorpion Wire – 5/10 ( 1200range change was / is good but i only use it to grab ppl from points, which is rarely )

Shadow Refuge – 10/10 ( i think its needed in tPVP in many situations, offensive as defensive )
Haste – 8/10 ( depending on you builds this will make the difference between kill or no kill | also quite nice with VII Trait from DA, when it triggers double haste ftw )
Smoke Screen – 3/10 ( i only use this for mass stealth before a game starts, if ever. )

Although there are sometimes some good dodges / escapes on your side, this vid more than all proves how BAD the majority of the players in WvWvW are !

Also you are fighting many many lowlvl players , who try to rezz fully killed players ??
I mean come on.

You dont run a stunbreaker, ofc you have high toughness but a full geared lvl 80 who knows how to play will most likely kill you , except you run away.

P/D can wear down some specs but so can other specs kill you.

just move the Mug Trait somewhere else, so you cannot take it as 25/30/0/0/15 thief, which is mostly used by a glass build.

I’m running 10/30/5/0/25 right now using S/D .

It’s quite fun and imho you bring a lot into a teamfight.
Dazing /& rooting people in bad spot + dancing dagger spam if they cluster .

It does not have the punch out ability like D/D but the setup definitly has it viability in certain setups.
