Its not that. Because i get what you are saying. You see x y z active but you see no passive. For example. You have tanky thief build. You get a trait that you remove one condition every 3 seconds in stealth and one upon entering. You also get condition removal in sword 2’s stun breaker no cd other than initiative regen. 2 of your 3 heals have a condition removal component. 1 DPS ones the other all movement impairs. I am not targeting thieves but that’s a lot of condition management if you really want to have it.

Tl;DR

Its all about the passive removal not active removal.

So you see no active at thiefs either.
Well how is a thief supposed to get into stealth for that condition removal ?

Right, he either has to spend Utility Slots for it ( long CD 40/60 ), or must take a particual offhand. ( in combination with a finisher ! )

So, to get that “passive” condition removal you need to use a certain weaponset + initiative.

And, sword #2, while you mentioned it, is a condition removal, but it also removes you from your enemy. ( most likely ).
It also cures only one condition , and costs 5 Initiative ( thiefs has base of 12 ).

So every condi removal a thief has is a dmg loss, a big one for these “passive” abilities….

On of our heals has a condi removal, it also has 30 sec recast, and withdraw, does not cure
the DMg-Conditions on a thief.

If you really want to bring a class that has to do “nothing” to remove conditions, take a HGH-engineer, or a guardian, or even an elementalist, but seriously not a thief ….

If you really thing that, for example a “tanky” “condition-removal” thief build does not have to give up anything, then please reroll thief and try both of them for yourself.

perhaps he is using a Superior Sigil of Perception , which also gives ~20% crit.
That way you could reach this crit-chance.

But you will be a G/C yourself, of course such dmg values are possible against other class – or upleveled chars.

just reroll a thief and understand the abilitys + skills.
This will improve your skills against a thief, but well, if you have trouble targeting a thief you perhaps don’t have your skills bound to keys + play in 1st person zoom mode…

Then you will have trouble against anybody who moves, not only thiefs.

Also NO thief build has all the utils everybody talks about..

If we want to have “more” dodges then others, we need to spend 15 traitpoints in acrobatics.

If we want to have condi cleanse every 3sec in stealh we have to spend 10 points in ShadowArts.

If we want to have DMG we need to spend 30 points in CriticalStrikes.

If we don’t want to be out of Ini too fast we have to spend 20points in Acrobatics + 15 in Trickery …

Also with weapon sets.
Sure, SB is nice for the “extra” evade on #2., however we are then limited to either S/D oder D/x .

Sword ist okay , but its main DMG source is AutoAttack !
You won’t have the “burst” you have with Dagger mainhand.

Also getting to stealth with D/P ( BP – Hs ) is much more reliable then Cloak’n’Dagger .
But, you need a Dagger mainhand to use it.

You see, a thief has much more problem then people give credit for.

If you really want to improve your Gameplay against thiefs ( btw. this counts for any class ) reroll it, and lear the basic combos / mechanics !

Headshot is fine., but i agree on pistol #2 , this skill is soooo kittening useless !

They buffed Warrior’s Rifle:
Brutal Shot (Rifle) skill: Increased vulnerability duration from 10 seconds to 12 seconds. Increased vulnerability stacks from 5 to 8.

I mean, if our pistol #2 would add that amount of vulnerability for that many seconds, i would perhaps think to use it.

But i doubt they will ever change it.

If you want to help your team and stack vuln, you either run an Engineer or a Necro, perhaps a ranger….

Thought hs on bp field was supposed to give you stealth as soon as you are jumping outside bp field but breaking it if hitting someone even with the same hs…didn’t know that bp+hs (+steal trick) leads to an invisible hs that won’t break stealth…oh well…time to take my thief out of the closet and try it xD Still wondering if you need macros to pull this out…since never used macros from gw1 and never will, just hate them >_<

As you can see you don’t need to macro anything, i was also rathe slow doing this.

Actually is bp>hs>steal (while mid air with hs)>backstab…you go stealth and hs hits target but you don’t break stealth landing it and you can still go backstab even if any direct dmg skill should break stealth giving you revealed debuff on hit, it’s just a..well let’s call that “trick”…pretty straightforward too once you get the right timing..

As long as you do not provide any evidence we must take what the combat logs tells us.
And this could also be that you stood in the blinding powder, and he first used steal and then
attacked you with HS.

Also, i think someone mentioned it before, you can precast BP and then steal so the BP is right where you are.
Then just HS → backstab.

This can also result in the same combatlog messages, comes down to the timing / lag.

This is really nothing special and definitly not a bug or macro … !

Will anet ever stop? Their isn’t 1 thief build u can try that hasn’t been nerfed in some way.

That would be true even if the only thing nerfed was Trick-Shot, because literally every competetive Build uses the Shortbow…. This kinda says sth. about how strong the Shortbow actually is. ^^’

Nope, this only say that we do NOT have any other viable ranged option !

Please for the sake of god reroll a thief, and equip P/P and then come back to us and report about your expirience ….

Shadow shot while spamming backstab before the second attack of shadow shot completes.

Instant 900 range teleport gap closer that gives a backstab. Any good D/P thief would do that.

Yes. this trick is nice, but does not work 100% of the time.
SS needs LoS , sometimes you wont be able to get the shot of.

And you only teleport if your shot does hit, but initiative is lost on triggering the action … just saying.

Heh, 7 inititative is nothing for D/P thief.
3 initiative while 3 second stealth + 3-4 initiative while under 4 seconds reveal + 2-3 Initiative from Opportunist during reveal phase.= 8-10 initiative regen.

Thief is a burst class – the line Stealth = no DPS – doesn’t matter to thieves. They will just regen, and burst your down with same skills 3 seconds later. Since Thieves skills are not on cooldown.

Please don’t try to defend D/P, it needs a nurfe.

We can start with how: Blackpowder + Heartseeker combo = it does damage and then stealth the Thief. Resulting in 100% chance for Theif to go in to stealth while dealing heartseeker damage. – That’s crazy overpowering combo. Not even Cloak and Dagger garanties thief a 100% chance to go in to Stealth, while dealing damage.

Seems like somebody needs to learn how to fight agains D/P …

D/P does around 20-40 % less burst dmg than D/D 25/30/0/0/15 specc.
Depending on runeset of course.

But nontheless, the dmg you lose is very noticable.

Also, you might want to “reroll” a thief yourself and try how many BP+HS you get with your imba regen .. And then, when you are in imba stealth mode, you can try to BS somebody ..

With the lowini you have you lose another 10% dmg for the opener.

And your “Resulting in 100% chance for Theif to go in to stealth while dealing heartseeker damage” does what ?
You mean the imba dmg HS does to targets above 50% HP ?

Seriously, go play D/P + 10/30/30/0/0 or some variation and then compare to D/D 25/30/0/0/15 and then come back and revert your statement.

As a D/P thief I also do not think it requires a nerf. Black powder heartseeker combo is very initiative heavy so a thief that plays this would not be able to continuously shoot out multiple black powders. To slightly counter this all you need to do is to stand inside the blackpowder field so that the thief does not get in multiple heartseekers inside one blackpowder field to regen initiative. If you do this they will either heart seeker you and then get the reveal debuff or run out of initiative.

Because a single skill (the boon steal on the new Mug) has the ability to make an entire class unviable (by stealing the HGH might stack crutch).

Show me another skill that can do that?

1. noone said anything about Boon-steal on Mug !

2. flanking strike does take off boons from targets already NOW, new thing is that the thief can choose to take the boon for himself

3. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bountiful_Theft is in the game since last betaWeekend, but most people don’t take it .

4. you cannot choose which boon you take of, its random.

i doubt they will bring back gems through sPvP, they already states sth like that in the last SotG.

Also , you don’t need an Arena to play sPvP.

There will be plenty of Arenas to play on , some major gaming leagues will host them, as well as, most PvP-Guilds.

So the way to get an “own” arena would be to join a sPvP Guild and then you can simply spend some silver / month to supply that guilds Arena.

Removing a condition every 3s in stealth: In all honesty, this trait is overpowered. Reason being is that it turns certain thief builds(D/P, for example) invincible against condition builds. A D/P build I used to use was absolutely ridiculous in this. I would run healing in stealth and condition cure in stealth, and not once did I lose to a condition build. That says alot. The trait renders so many condition classes useless against the thief. Doesn’t help that it removes one condition the second you enter stealth. This needs serious consideration.

Black Powder + Heartseeker: Another thing I truely think was overpowered. With a X/D build, it’s easy to deny stealth(essentially one of the only waves to kill a proper thief) by dodging cloak and dagger. The BP+HS combo totally defies this.. On demand perma stealth, at any time, with zero counter. On top of that add a ranged blind attack and blind field makes it absolutely ridiculous in certain scenarios. This ignores that fact that running with a fellow D/P friend, you can essentially share stealth if one person lays down a BP. I do believe there needs to be more initiative cost to B/P, while buffing the condition blind itself to balance out other Pistol offhand builds while adjusting D/P.

P/P: This weapon set needs some love. As it stands, P/P is useless without a blind buff or access to stealth.

Oh yes, remove a condition for 9 Initiative is clearly OP ..

Also you forget that you have to
a) run D/P
b) spend points in SA traitline which will lower dmg quite a lot.

And no, it does not render condition builds useless, if thiefs would not have this trait we would just be freekills for those
mega hard to play condition spammers !

Basic thief trait setup + weaponsets when running shadow’s embrace is

10/30/30/0/0 D+P .

This setup does more then 50% less DMG with standard burst combo then 25/30/0/0/15 with D+D.

So this is absolute fine !

Infact, D+P with 30pkt in SA is finally another way to play thief instead of the mainstream burst specc, you can even “outplay”
other classes using this setup.

Of course not as good as our beloved elementalists or ng’s but its a start.

Actually no. In high-end tPvP it’s almost impossible for a thief to 1v1 any class (besides warrior).

Thief is literally one of the weakest classes in the high-end spectrum of the ladder and they’re even weaker 1v1.

Come on. Look at the stream from Ostricheggs or Teldo.

I only play Engineer so I watch only engineer streams. A quote from Teldo is: I am chasing the thief…ohhh… the thief is chasing me…. I am dead.

And on the spirit watch map was ostricheggs killed by a thief 3 times in ~2minutes. It was not a perfect 1on1. But the thief selected the perfect moment and killed ostrichegg.

It does not mean that the thief is winning 10 of 10 times. In a 1on1 situation it is important to have everything up to beat a good thief. I did not watch necro streams but I bet 10 duels between a top necro and a top thief will not end 10:0.

So what ?
Both of them running HGH in the past streams, which wrecks nearly any class out there.
They are offensive specced, and if they dont have Elixir S up they are supposed to eat the dmg of
a thief.

How often do they simply kill anyone ( including thiefs ) by just spamming nades ?

If you don’t have stunbreak up and chase a thief who gets back his big C/D its absolutly fair that you die.
You were just “outplayed”.

Teldos “default” build is also weak agains burst, but agains any type of burst , therefor he has very good
( perhaps the best ) CC abilities.

And he relies heavy on dodge, therefor running Elixir R instead of S , also does not have protection.
Its only fair that he dies if a full zerker thief get the jump.

Everything else would just be stupid !

You compare a Full GC thief with a no trait point spend Eles?How about make it simple that none of them is specced and none of them naked and compared the stats. It would be more accurate that way.

Dude, you don’t get me.
The full G/c specced Thief does have same Toughness + Health as an untraited Elementalist ( cause u run berzerker amulet and have no
+toughness / +vita in the dmg traitlines ).
As soon as the Ele starts to spend traitpoints he will have more Toughness / Health than the thief !

Ah not really, if u are a thief and using SB, simply press Inflitrator Arrow or Shadow Step to move away and Shadow Return, or simply using ur Hide In Shadow Kill, Roll for Innitiative,etc…. And the very first reason they try to root you is either prevent you from escaping or ready for big burst.By simply moving away, you mess up their location and mess up their combo

Sure, i could spend 6 Ini to SB#5 but this requires me to have my weaponswap ready + 6 initiative.
Same for rootbreakers / stunbreakers.
They need to be off cooldown, and i must have em in my skillbar.

Elementalist does get it for free !!!!

Every other profession must take the utils or does have a drawback when using traits that do something like that.
Eg. Thief needs at least 10pkt in ShadowArts for Condition removal in stealth + somehow access to stealth.

When i need to shortbow, because i need to evade or eg nmy is lurking away i am locked for 10 sec without any condition removal besides
Signet of Agility ( if u have it, most unlikely ).
Or i need to use SR ( 60sec c/d ).
Talking of default specs here…

And stupid elementalist gets this kitten for free, every attumentswap … i mean come on , its not that they can trigger it by that, its more
the fact that they do not have to use their brain.
Because attunement swaps are also very short C/D !

I was playing NG for some time, now back on thief, the first games were so horrible, because i forgot about weapon swap coooldown .
It really hinders you so much, but well somehow its neccessary – but NG and Ele do have a big advantage here.

And before someone argues that we ( thief ) would have a too big advantage without C/d on weaponswap, because we do not have c/d on our abilitys.
Problem is initiative here !

Thanks for being constructive. As you said all above, you are correct with we can have them IF TRAITED Correctly. It all does not come for free, to be able to do that, we forced to be in Bunker. And please don’t tell me BUNKER can KIll you Thief. That will make my Thief heart broken.

It does come for free, because the important traits are too low in the traitlines, so you will have em.
Of course you can argue. what if i want to specc X/X/X/X/X but, thats not the case and thats with all professions.
If i specc defensive and want to run G/C i must not wonder if i wont kill anything….

As for being the same toughness as thief, I disagree, if that is the case, why Anet don’t make Thief wear Light Cloth but Medium????

You know that while Stun, you can’t use any Skill right?And with Rooted, you mean Immobolize or the Skill Entangle of Ranger? I believe any class can break away from Root, not just Eles.

I mean both, a stun is triggered by default ( again thief pov ) with BasiliskVenom.
I sometimes have DevourVenom in my util-line, and also you can root ele by attacking from stealth with SB#1, however you
normally do not do so because you try to backstab !

The Root, is a condition and thereby cleansed by attunement switch !
Which is huge, given the fact that i have to use a 45sec recast util ( devourvenom ) or stealth opener !

Your dmg agains other low-heal / toughness targets is very good !, if you choose to go Berzerk, I think all other class will you harder than us EVER hit you.

Don’t get that sentence there ?
What I meant initially was, that the Dmg a bunker ele can push out, is enough to kill a zerker thief, if he does have his utils on CD !

Being an Eles, a class that has LOWEST Hp Pool as well as LOWEST Toughness, plus being FORCED into MELEE, how can we stand a chance with all other melee class?We have no Stealth Ability like Thief, No Tanky as Guard or War, No making clone ability as Mesmer, No KB control as Engineer, No Pet protection as Ranger,No Second Health Pool as Necro,so again, how do we survive?

Coming from a thiefplayer:

- You have same health + toughness as Thief
- You have mind. 400 range, melee is something else

- You have protection for very long if traited correct
- You have perma vigor for perma dodge if traited correct
- You have blind + knockback
- You have condition removal without having to think about that if traited correct
- You have very nice heals
- You have great mobility
- You have chilled !!!!
- Your dmg agains other low-heal / toughness targets is very good !

Overall you have to much boons / mechanics you don’t have to think about.

I had very nice duels yesterday against some elementalists.
One lasted the whole time and noone was able to kill the other.

One thing i noticed there, and i already state that.
Ele has to much boons which come without using any util / weapon, its “just” changing attunements.
And thats stupid.

You have a condition on you, fine decide when to remove it-
You are stunned / rooted – fine think if you need to break it and use an ability for it.

As an ele you can do way to many mistakes and are still powerfull, and if someone can play
really well, this profession gives more then any other in the game !

Did you ever try the content with a glasscanon ?

Either preemtively dodge , be fast, or be downed. …

High thougness Guardian builds are easymode, the game blocks attacks for you, which would kill other professions / speccs .

So you want the content to be harder for the EZ mode profession specc, what do you think will happen with berzerker speccs ?

once we’ll be able to rent custom arenas, i am 100% sure there will be a community driven 2v2 / 3v3 area.

However, since we have to rent the servers, there won’t be any button ingame where you can simply click and join the action.

Perhaps some ladder like ESL is willing to put up a league ( iirc they already proposed this to A-net )

Once A-net sees how popular this kind of gamemode is they perhaps add it ingame … at least i hope so.

Of course it does vs equal geared opponents !
You don’t have enough power to kill them , its nowhere near what you see in the video …

This is WvW and mostly people he kills get dmg for more than one person, are gc themself or lower level.

Try this setup / specc in tPvP and record a video there, you will notice a huge difference.

Warrior’s Eviscerate / Killshot , F1 skill without having to trait it … also more oftern usable , so is kit refinement.

You should really play a full zerker thief in a tPvP game , then you will probably understand what the problem is.

I for myself would exchange my mug-dmg any day of the week for some more “deep” gameplay, we i can be of use for my team with another build then 25/30/0/0/15 .

Yes, they don’t even have to spend traitpoints and have the same F1 dmg then we have, and even more frequent … you get it ?!

And for kit refinement, you stated that “NO OTHER CLASS” has that amount of dmg for only 10 traitpoints, and thats just not TRUE !

Thief has 8k ( imho total exaggerated ) okittensec cooldown (base) , and Kit refinement is much more dmg
on 10sec CD.

And just do put you into picture, i played my thief as a main 1k games mostly tourney , then i rerolled NG.
NG has much much more option , skills , playstyles and FUN.

Thief is really only viable with one spec.

Sure its strong in the right hands, but so is NG, or / and any other class…

And PvE wise thief gameplay really “sucks” compared to other classes.
There are so many useless Utils, whole Poison Utils are crap, and the traps too.

So, might there be some minor nerfs, but not without buffs in other areas.

Hey guys,

returning to my thief after some engineer play.
man, ng’s are so much more fun to play… but however.

I was getting tired that all my utilities always circle around 5 , depending on the situation.

I wonder if any of you ever tried a full venom based build. ( PvE )
I know i will not be able to deal the amount of dmg i will be doing with full zerker setup + 25/30/0/0/15 , but i am looking for something different.

There are now dmg-meters so i don’t care so much about that, i seek a fun to play build.

There are already ways to counter. Learn to play better instead of crying something shouldn’t be allowed.

Yeah you got it, i need to play better, to win agains 5 people who camp the arena , come down for the stomp and port up again.

Of course i know how the portal works …. but the fact that he has to be there before does not change anything about what i think is OP about it !

You don’t have to jump up there again like ANY other class, you can just go there agin.
And not only you, anybody who is from you fraction !

How many people just ask in /map chat “mesmer in JP” and thats it ..

The arena gives the people on top a huge advantage anyways, but to not haave any risk in going down again for the kill, because you can just portal up again is plain stupid.

If the camp arena okay, jumping down because you think you can score the kill, okay.,

But no having to jump up again, beeing vulnerable for people who join in from dark room, only because stupid portal is crap.

I really don’t understand how anybody who thinks about that fact objectively can disagree on that .

No other class has such a huge advantage anywhere .
This really makes no sense and also no fun anymore.

Getting camped by players in Arena is one thing, but to have the ability to get up there again without any problems ( in combat speed, jumping in general ) is so kitten !

I really don’t understand why abilitys like shadowstep, or any port in general is not allowed to work in JP, but mesmer portal.

It would be stong enough even if i then would deny the z-axis in JP’s !!!!

as with all other chests, i belive the gold ones have a higher chance of droping higher tier stuff … but like everything with chests in this game, its just a chance and rnd… .

So perhaps the best option would be to only buy copper ?

I would love a TDM Style also very much, and i am faithfull it will be coming as soon as we will be able to rent private servers from Anet.

Most likely i will still need a community to set up some kind of seasons / leagues but it will be the next step.

Then people will have a choice to play that type of pvp, and we will see how successfull it will be.

It’s only a matter of time now.

Hotjoin is in most cases circle zerging …

Sometimes, when people start to drop out ( most likely because they finished their daily ), it is fun because its 2v2 or something like this, but thats it.

In tPvP you have a team strategy, you synergize your builds for your team, and you call & get help if needed.

Also, you have voice to set up your burst etc.

This is much more fun then running in circles and blowing all AE abilities you have on random opponents.

Well, you should try tourneys if you want to have fun.
It’s way more fun than the HotJoin Zerg running from objective to objective…

It’s also a lot more balance for the team composition pov.
You won’t see to many thiefs / mesmers there, at least i did not over the past weeks.

Stealth does not make him invuln, so just span your AE attacks.
try to dodge his opener ( preemtive dodgin )

Depending on your setup you can also stealth ( P/S + Bombkit, perhaps even HealingTurret ).
So you can stealth a bit after he stealthed and you can decide what to do after he is out.

If he decides to stay in stealth ( by using antother BP+HS combo ) he will be init starved soon.

Depending on thiefs traits he will lose either damage to keep some init regen in stealth or he will be very low on init but do more damage with his other attacks.

WoW PvP is currently dozens of times more active than gw2 pvp is. I would say that Anet could learn a thing or two.

Its a dozen times more active and still failed to achieve any sort of sustained E-Sport status. I think that is more indicative of systemic balance problems and lack of focus more than anything. Pretty much MMO pvp in a nutshell. Often super fun, but shoved to the side for PvE. :/

fun to play /= fun to watch. MMO pvp will never make e-sport status because of this. GW2 is trying to force a square peg into a round hole by trying to twist mmo pvp into some sort of FPS play style but it’s just a big failure and will never become an esport and they are stuck in a big catch 22 right now because the things they should have done a long time ago require a healthy population (match making, ranking, etc) so now they add it so late with a dead population leading to long queue times and people facing same teams over and over and quitting out of frustration. All the while ignoring new/casual player experience which is where you build your popularity.

I do agree that fun to play != fun to watch.
However i think GW2 has much potential to be fun to watch.

The current map layout does favor strategies which are great to watch, and the ability usage / teamsetup do add a lot for a host to talk & guess about team strategies.

As soon as they will have ladders up people will come back, + we get a new map soon ( remindes me a little of hutball from SWTOR which was fun, at least with my class)

Sure, right now there’s not too much to do, grinding for QPs does not make too much sense, and rankgrinding is meh … but i still like to play pvp because its just fun to outplay others !

And i had some very nice 1v1’s on empty servers in the past, which was also a lot of fun.

Whatever the troubles of GW2, looking to a game like Rift which has had its PvP population collapse is not the best place to look for solutions.

was not talking about solutions from Rift, was talking about the fact that Rift has a more active/larger PvP population than GW2 as seen with queue times for even the non max level brackets.

Sure, u know y you have queue times ?
Its not because there are so many players, its because there a so few players.

You have to wait untill the amount for a BG pop is reached …

reaction time like my grandma …. if you are not able to use / play with stunbreaker and what to play as a GC then you don’t deserve otherwise …

Play a tankish build eg. aegis guard and /lol about thiefs opener … however i think he will kill you a little bit later as you dont seem to know what you are doing

I agree, people are quick to say “go back to that game.” It has a solid, well thought out PvP system. When the community talks, Blizzard actually listens, and fixes and updates content quickly. I guess because it is P2P.

You all are quick to forget how good their PvP system is. Most of the better players in this game will agree with me as well. I think some of you just want to point your nose in the air and be like “I play GW2, not Wow, I am not an 11 year old kid.”

WoW Devs NEVER listened to the community !
And their changes are incredibly game changing all the time.
Reducing cooldowns by 100% , increasing dmg by 100% … thinks like this show how much they know about the state of their pvp .

GW2 PvP is just different, but imho its much more challanging.

Alone the ability to dodge is so GOOD, most people don’t even understand it.
Also the ability to reroll to another specc / class without any drawbacks is godlike !

There is no greater handicap for a pvp game then gearlevels, don’t know y people still argue about that.

I agree that Anet must implement something that keeps you playing, a ladder should really go live soon !

Also, some new great looking Armor/Weapon Sets would be great.
Or some other gimmick’s like particle effects or something .

Rank alone does not make the difference, it even does not show if you are a good or bad player, it “only” shows how much time you invested. ( + you can grind much much faster if you hotjoin zerg …. ) , but they already stated that they look into this as well.

I agree 1v1 System is much better the the old, it’s also much better for Anet to get the MMR Values up & running.

1 Week rotation is not good in my opinion, make it random, it would add so much more.
Or at least rotate on daily basis.

Also, later, a 2v2 system would make sense.
Winner vs Winner , Loser vs Loser.

today i got a new rank and bought 40 gold chests and 20 silver.. i got ca 15 colors and created 15 with mystic forge. after i selled them i has earned ca 25 silver..

It was bad luck then, you could also have gotten an http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Abyss_Dye which goes for ~ 20gold…. its’ random
