I agree that we should be able to purchase cultural armor with karma since we can get weapons that way. As to the cost of the cultural armor, I agree that the tier 3 is way too high for the stats.
We tried to do this event this evening but it appears to still be bugged. This time we could not find the Quaggan npc…at least I could not, but my guild mate said earlier he saw the npc embedded in the rock and unreachable.
Please fix this event.
Unintended consequences….lol
DevonPaul, I do believe the drop rate was nerffed recently by accident. If I recall correctly, Anet has mentioned this in relation to the World Map Completion so I assume it affected everything else too.

Hey, everyone: we’re aware of the bug where people are not getting 100% completion even though they have 100% in every map. The team is looking into it. Thank you for all the reports.
Thread here – see page 3

I just made a simular thread without reading this one. Here is another funny one. You are attacking the troll in front of you only to attack the one behind it, which the shot bounces off to the right and left cause the 3 behind the one you attacked to come after you. The one in front of you isn’t happy you picked on his friends behind him so now you have 4 on you.
Oh wait there is more. After hitting all your “uh oh” skills to finish all 4 trolls with like 64 hp left, your character auto selects and auto attacks the troll next to you just out of agro range but just in attacking range so he can throw an axe to finish you off… brilliant!!!!!
Or the doe browsing on the bush just inside the aoe range. Never thought I’d die to a doe….lol
…sigh, certainly wish Anet would fix this targeting problem. I am just now leveling a guardian and if I am not careful, even my leap to enemy with broadsword hits the wrong one. When this first happened I died in less time it took to figure out what happened. So I started to watch and, sure enough, my target switched. I have no idea why, just watched it do that.
Its even worse when you are in a mob that has a vet and you are trying to take him and his friends down before you advance to the champion in the back of the area. I ended up leaping past my target and ended up at the feet of the champion.
That was almost a wipe for our group. I found I had to kite the champion while the group took out all those others before they could help me with the champion.
Messy targeting issue. Not to mention the “right mouse target” problem as well.
I’ve experienced this on occasion with flying mobs (bats, etc.) and found the only way to actually do damage is to AOE them for a moment before they finally come down to me so I can whack at them on my level.
Annoying is an understatement. I’ve even seen Drakes do this on land but not in the water, and occasionally, in water but not on land. So it appears to be random and if you are on a slight incline they treat it like a mountain in their way and turn invulnerable then go back to full health.
From what I gather you must use earlier manuals to unlock the Grandmaster one. At least that was my experience.
I can attest to the poor loot drop rate in the new zone at Southsun. We went down there this evening to get that last way point on Owain’s island. Of all the karka and reef drake kills I got mostly bones, but only 1 out of 5 kills dropped anything. The most often dropped item was crab meat. If you are a cook this is helpful, but I am not a cook so I vendored it.
Aha, found it. Apparently my first attempt to climb the wreck was at the wrong spot. Found the correct one this evening and managed to get up to the top without incident.
BTW we swam from the southeast-most way point around to this island with little incident. Swam on top instead of under the water so were not bothered by the denizens of the water there abouts. Definitely watch for the Champion Shark…he showed up shortly after we go to the 2/3 point in the water just south of the island.
Thanks for the tip and appreciate all the help.
I’ve seen a few mentions of this, but nothing concrete. I belong to a very large guild and our officers are having to jump through hoops just to keep our roster “current players” viable.
Problem here is there is no tab in the guild management setup that offers a last logged in time stamp. So it is very difficult for officers to cull those no longer playing.
We like to be able to invite folks into the gw2 guild if they ask, but it is difficult since we currently have a cap on number of members.
Anet please, please modify the guild functions to include this time stamp option to make it easier for our officers to manage our guild numbers.
As mentioned above, just climb up across the ships. Why is this under “game bugs” anyway?
I placed it under game bugs because I was under the impression there was a heart or event that was to help build a bridge so we could make a way over to it, but I never saw that pop. Saw the NPC looking for Karka eggs but after collecting a lot of those eggs could not find a way up.
I also explored the possibility of jumping over, but was unable to even with a speed buff…not a good jumper. Then I thought there was perhaps an underwater tunnel or something like that but all I got was chased by the underwater creatures.
I did try to jump up the ship wreck but got caught in the environment for a moment before sliding back down, so figured there was a glass wall there preventing anyone using it.
However, I shall try again. Thanks for the info.
Nov 15th patch said they were to assure drops from veterans/champions. They haven’t. We really need a reply from them on this. People are leaving the game in droves atm.
Yes, I saw that but drops just got worse after that patch. Still no answer and even Magic find is not working now…seems a lot of loot bugs at the same time but cannot understand why.
Tried to get to Owain’s Refuge the other day and was unable to find a path up the side of that islet, let alone any way to reach the guy collecting Karka eggs for that event. We went completely around that islet looking for a way up, and even went up on the main island but there was no way to cross over. Definitely could NOT jump as it was way too far away.
So my question is this: How on earth are we to get over there to do that egg event and pick up the way point?

Why was this moved to the tech support forum?
It has nothing to do with our computer or hardware.
This the $64,000 question. I don’t understand the reasoning either. I think the moderator who moved it did NOT read it or if they did, they certainly misunderstood the discussion involved.
I just noticed a thread of mine entitled: “Abysmal drop rates now everywhere” was moved from the bug forum to the tech support forum.
My question is WHY? it is not a problem with our equipment but a game bug.
Here is the thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Abysmal-drop-rates-now-everywhere
I cannot believe this happened. I wrote about drop rates in the game and it gets moved to the tech support? Why?
This is not about our pcs, it is about buggy drops in the game.
Here is the thread I am talking about:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Abysmal-drop-rates-now-everywhere
This is why I have not played my ele since I started experiencing issues. I refuse to play a broken character.
I too am experiencing such issues, less MF gear i wear the better apparently. My friends are getting so many more drops than me, lets just say for argument sake in exactly the same gear. Should i be increasing my gemstore purchases. I think thats the only different between them and me, I generate my own money throug hfarming, they on the other hand buy gems quite regularly.
That is a distressing thought. I do hope Anet is not dinging players for NOT purchasing gems…that goes totally against the grain.
Some basic rules to when it works and when it doesn’t…
It works if you attack with 1, are within 900 range, and have not already been hit.
Things that seem to make it fail:
Being hit first
Your pet hitting/being hit first
Using any ability other than #1
Being more than 900 range away
attacking with any pick-up weapon
hmmm sounds like a bug in the design of a passive trait if you ask me.
oho…the devs saw the new movie “Life of Pi”
Hmmm, I thought I had gotten one when I killed a Karka the other day. Or, perhaps it was that darned Skelk that wondered into the line of fire?
Interesting, I’ll have to check this out.
Well that explains what I was trying to figure out. No wonder things were wonky. Thanks for this information…I just did not think to look at my buff bar at the time. Appreciate the head’s up.
I posted elsewhere that I thought having to pay a way point fee when your character died, then having to pay for repairs on top of it, was a double jeopardy issue. I don’t mind paying the fees for the way points but hate to be double charged upon death.
I suggested they make an automatic way point to the closest one when you are defeated free. But you don’t get a choice of which way point.
They probably did increase the drop rates. They added junk to the drop tables which competes with the probability of a decent drop! I heard this is to slow down botting, when it just slows everyone down.
If that is the case, it missed its mark entirely as it punishes the players and does nothing to stop botting. Although I must say I’ve seen fewer bots recently so whatever hammer they are using to destroy them is working.
Thinning out the drops is obviously not working as intended.
I do not know if this is intended but I noticed throughout the event last Sunday and most of the last couple of times we ran through Southsun; whenever we killed a Karka nest a young one would attach itself to our faces.
This was hilarious, but I do not know if it is intended. I did not take any damage while it was attached and it just faded away within a short period of time. I wish I had gotten a screen shot of it but was not able to. It had disappeared by the time I thought of it.
Reminded me of Alien young in the movie…/shudder…

I tried to find a specific thread related to drop rates since a patch shortly before the Lost Shore download but could not. Perhaps I missed it but decided to start one up here. The moderator may move this to the appropriate thread as necessary, and I thank you if you do.
I’ve been reading through a lot of threads and it appears there are multiple ones that discuss different issues with drops from Champions/Veterans/WvWvW, etc. But I wanted to actually post the following: no matter where I have been in Tyria lately, I have gotten very poor drops for anything I kill.
Just the other day a few friends and I did a series of fights with Champions, Veterans and regular mobs. The drop rates were abysmal. Mostly whites, some crafting mats (1 pc), greens and blues but not much else.
We were all high level mentored down to the zones but none of us got anything remotely close to our own levels as was indicated in a recent comment from Anet. Mostly 20-30 and some 56 but nothing in the 80 level range. So apparently this is not working as intended.
Another thing I noticed (as was mentioned in other threads), Magic Find apparently is not working at present as it used to. This is annoying as I try to make sure I have sufficient MF on my gear or food to provide a boost. This worked before, but not now.
The new Southsun area drop rates are practically non-existent. A few days ago a guild mate and I ran through that area looking for the new Reef Drake pets. My character is a level 80 Ranger and he was on his mid-level 70 Ranger. We got the pets, but of all the mobs we killed, we had very little to show for it. A few shells and some crab meat.
The harvesting nodes in that new area are few and very far between. I think I found maybe 4 plants, 3 mythril and 1 ori metal nodes. After about 1 1/2 hours of running around, that is a very poor return.
I do not understand why Anet dropped everything down like this when they said they were actually going to increase it. And I have to assume that Magic Find is broken because it has not worked as it used since last month.
It would be greatly appreciated if the developers would look into these issues for us. Thank you.

We’re going to be fighting a Risen, Frozen, Branded Ancient Karka. . . .
Stuffed in a turkey.
Oh My God…how funny is that. Thanks for the laugh.
I can’t view this thread to revise my last post….
Hopefully they have not cut the thread apart. Perhaps if you can save it on a text document so you can edit as needed without losing key information? I’ve noticed moderators cutting out entire threads with and “oops, sorry, lost the thread while trying to combine two.”
Good read tho.
The only thing worse than invisible walls are the cracks in the environment you get stuck in and cannot get out of…except, of course, by using the way point function.
/stuck does not work for me in this game no matter how hard I try it. So I have spent more coin on way points to get unstuck than I care to think about…most recently I got stuck in the terrain in the new Southsun region while exploring.
Then I got spotted by the Karka there who decided I would be a good meal for it. lol…what a mess. Once in combat mode, you just cannot way point out. Too bad I was not invulnerable to that mob.
Then to add insult to injury, costs for repairs on top of way point costs. At least with invisible walls, I can usually find another way around without the added costs.

I was able to fix this for me.
I was using some command line arguments (-email <EMAIL> -password <PASSWORD> -nopatchui) when launching GW2 in order to get the Mumble overlay working. I had been doing this for over a month without any issues until the latest patch.
Removing these command line arguments fixed the market issue for me.
It fixed the market issue for me but I lost my mumble overlay in the process. It appears I cannot have both.
I have an aversion to wading through 10 baddies just to find I am faced with their ghosts just a step later and they have added a wicked grab and root ability never seen before.
This is definitely a real issue. Orr punishes slower defensive builds… perhaps a bit too much?
My recommendation — for you, for anyone else having a hard time, and for anyone who just wants it to be more fun or to be done faster — is to group up for map completion. All you need is one or two other players (with a full group of 5 it tends to turn into herding cats a bit too readily).
I usually do group up with my guildies, but a lot of times I can’t find anyone available when I am. Either they have not logged on yet/or won’t due to RL commitments, are already in a full group in a committed function, or involved in WvWvW and don’t want to leave that just to help me.
So I try but most of the time I don’t succeed for the area.
I made a post about it which was locked.
They claimed to have buffed the drop rates for us because of mass complaining.
I have experienced the complete opposite. Cursed Shore and other level 80 areas are ghost towns compared to what they used to be.
The rate was nerfed again. All you will find there, sadly, is porous bones my friend.
How true. I have been extremely disappointed that instead of increasing drop rates as they said they would, it appears they nerffed them instead…or deleted the loot tables entirely.
I think the concept of these events is a nice thought, although I would suggest they be longer so folks can actually do them regardless of when they can actually log onto the game.
The Southsun area is lovely, but very, very empty. The Karka are a bit difficult if you find one jumping at you as you round a boulder and find he has brought friends to the party you did not expect. Unless in a party, this is a definite way point journey.
The time I spent with friends exploring the area was a bit disappointing. We were able to navigate successfully around mobs as long as we knew where they were, but unintentionally aggroed said mob’s cousin on the other side of the mound we did not see and, oh, look, he is bringing his brother to the party as well who is from the beach down the hill.
As funny as that sounds that is what happened and we eventually decided to do some climbing which actually gave us a breather until we ran into old Champion there beyond that waterfall. ooops.
Found the Ranger Reef Drake accidentally, which we thought we had missed. However, it was fortunate there were a bunch of other folks too, so it was easier to obtain a Juvenile after the Champion boss was down who was protecting them.
Drop rate for loot is abysmal in this area by the way. I think I only got crab meat and some shells. I also only found a few (very few) harvesting nodes of any type as well. So farming in this area for much of anything else does not appear to be an option.
..sigh, well judging by the commentary, it appears I am not a very good player then. I am not one to complain though, I was just commenting based upon my own experiences.
I prefer ranged type play style so play a Ranger. I like the guardian but not the in-your-face portion of it with the broadsword.
Strang.8170, Ayrilana.1396 and ShadowPuppet.3746 all have very valid points, I do need to learn better strategy but I am not a hard core player preferring instead to amble through a game for fun.
I usually run with guild mates and they are all very accommodating in helping me. But this old timer is just not that fast on the uptake any more so my reactions are a bit slow.
But, they like my jokes and use me as bait a lot. lol I am fairly good natured so enjoy the banter. I keep telling them I’ll change the sandwich I seem to have attached to my back if I can find a better one than PB&J.
After reading my post I realized I could have worded it much better than I did. My intention was certainly not to thumb my nose or poke fun or even make a assessment as to the type of player you are. I suppose in my own way I was trying to offer helpful advice, though the last sentence in particular is what I suppose bothers me most now. It seemed a bit snarky and for that I apologize (It happens when I spend too much time on the forums these days with all the negativity floating around heh). The primary goal of this game and any game for any player should always be about having fun, I forget sometimes that my version of what is fun may not be the same as someone elses. Keep at it though, I have seen others that have posted that suggested a similar idea that it does get a bit easier the more you play in those areas.
Easier? Maybe, but predictable? Definitely, now that I know what is coming. I think knowledge of what is around the corner from past experience actually is the reason most folks tend to think it is easier after a bit.
Personally, I like knowing what is coming around that corner — especially that Champion Ettin I can’t seem to outrun. LOL…what a mess that was. Anyway, No offense was taken by any of the commentary, but I appreciate the consideration.
However, as I mentioned, I still go cautiously where I know the mobs and their ungodly re-spawn rates tend to live. I have an aversion to wading through 10 baddies just to find I am faced with their ghosts just a step later and they have added a wicked grab and root ability never seen before.
Oh and all those red circles I try to stay out of which tend to overlap all the time? No matter where I step, I get spiked. I will learn I suppose to be a better player but I have fun anyway.

You sound like the kind of player this game was supposed to be for. Casual and fun. I usually go solo through those areas and, honestly, it took some time. I like to oooo and ahhh at the landscape and then, bam, mobs. Whoops. But it gets easier, as you seem to say in a later post. Just keep playing and finding the fun where you can. Lots of fun to be had all around you and it has little to do with gear\gold grinding. You have a good guild from the sounds of it, that makes a difference.
Yes, my guild (The Old Timers Guild) has spoiled me considerably. I love the folks I play with and they don’t seem to mind if this 68 year old lady tries to copy their style. Like I said, they have fun with me as bait but don’t really let me down.
I secretly think I am their mascot (oh except for the 80 yr old who loves to pvp). I think we are their excuses for stuff. But we all have a good time. I even tried pvp…oooot I think that was a rush. I almost made it but died 4 times in less than 10 minutes. They said I would be a vet after 30 deaths. ehheheheh
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
I agree with this idea.
You’ll find that trying to fight at a distance to be very difficult in this game unless you have something (pet, summon, etc) to distract it. Otherwise you’re just using ranged attacks at point blank.
You could kite them but I fond it to be more of a hassle than it was worth. In fact, it seemed to take much longer than if I just tanked it.
If you’re having problems then I suggest speaking on map chat and seeing if anyone wants to group with you. If you’re trying to do a particular skill point then I’m sure you can also get someone there to help you.
I actually do use a pet a lot …and I actually was able to pick up my new Ranger pet, but only after 6 or 7 of us finally took down the boss guarding them. I died but was told to wait that someone would rez me. It would have been too difficult to return through all that terrain and beasties alone. That worked.
Usually, I run with guildies and rarely venture anywhere I would have issues soloing by myself. I have a lot of the map to uncover yet and so I have a lot of options there.
Oh, and I have finally learned how to kite. heheheh that is fun. I just make sure my guildies aren’t in the line of fire and run the heck out of the enemy while they kill it. Works for me.

I am new to the gaming environment. That said, I decided to add my 2 cents worth to this thread. I’ve played WOW, Rift, EQ2 and SWTOR before picking up this game. I’d heard so many different opinions that I decided to try it for myself.
Personally, I like the “Tinity” style play as much as I like the current GW2 “Jack of all Trades” type of play. I prefer playing with guild mates because of the social aspect. We have a lot of fun together. Besides, they are who I learned the most about how to play these games from.
The game play in all games I’ve played is very similar in one aspect or another, so I’ve just found a niche that I seem to fit into and gone with it. My delight in GW2 is I don’t have to stand still to use any of my skills. That is the most engaging thing I have found so far.
I am a casual player so I rarely, if ever, run through dungeons. I’ve more of an adventuring spirit than a “I have to get to point B” type. So grinding is boiled down for me as having to do stuff in order to earn coin.
I am disappointed in how Anet handled the one-time events recently. The Halloween one was, in my humble opinion, better executed than this past Lost Shores one. I feel they really dropped the ball on that one.
I prefer to be able to amble through the game and enjoy it a lot. When I do solo, I choose areas I can handle without having to depend on my guild mates or other players just to get through. I save those areas for when I can run with groups. But it is disappointing to me that I cannot just explore without getting killed in high spawn areas.
Its supposed to be hard, the drop tables are better.
Hard is one thing, impossible is totally another. I am not able to explore either of these two Zones on my character because I am constantly “dead” from being overrun by enemies.
There is a difference.
Don’t blame this event’s problems on any customers’ equipment. That line of thought is certainly out of the ball park.
Event crashes, bugs and what have you, had nothing to do with my system…the setup for this event was poorly implemented and the design left a lot to be desired – judging by all the issues that arose.
So you know what caused the crashes? have ANet let you in on their debugging, or are you grabbing ‘facts’ out your behind?
Maybe ANet admitting that those are in fact server problems they are aware of? Or maybe using your brain and figuring out that when your input is not registered or delayed by X seconds but everything else moves fluidly then its is not a problem with the graphic card?
Fanboys gonna fan…
Thank you.
I can’t argue with anyone regarding the drops as I was one of the fortunate ones who actually got to finish the final fight without disconnecting. My rewards were more than I actually expected and I was thrilled with that new 20 slot bag.
My personal view point is focused on how poorly the entire 3-day “one-time” event scheduled out. I expected to be able to go back and pick up on Phase 1 and 2 because none of the events worked. I got the soggy bag, defeated a few of the necessary NPCs only to not receive the necessary item to continue to the next step. Then heard it was cancelled.
I got discouraged over the fight at LA because the Karka actually never went down. My guild mates and I realized it was bugged and probably would not finish. So instead of standing around wasting our time and effort on that, we tried to do whatever was available up to that point.
Then the final call came in for the Southsun area. I really liked that but definitely will never solo that. I am too squishy to survive very long if I tried. But really liked the area and think it has potential.
I did get my new Ranger pet, but only after 6 or 7 of us finally took down the boss guarding them. I died but was told to wait that someone would rez me. It would have been too difficult to return through all that terrain and beasties alone. That worked.
I was more than disappointed in the poor drop rates on anything we took down in our adventuring outside of that one-time Ancient Karka. Even the harvesting nodes were few and far between.
My suggestion? Make these types of events run over a longer period of time so that everyone around the globe can actually manage to participate in them. Having folks able to do that would probably be the better approach in future.
Oh, how hilarious. I’ll have to watch for that on my ranger. I would just love a screen shot of that. heheheh
Good intentions are only that – Good Intentions, until action is followed by resolution of problem.
Still a problem on Yak’s Bend server as well.
We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency.
Unfortunately, you eliminated all of the Pacific and Asia areas due to time zone issues. When you run something at noon PST you have to understand that the Pacific/Asia area already has moved on to past late night and into the next day.
Poor planning as far as I can see and I don’t agree with your reasoning.
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
Hmmm – I use the mumble overlay and launch the game with the “-nopatchui” switch and can use TP with no issues.
I launch both Mumble and the Game under Administrator – have you tried that?
Yes…still does not work.
