DS final fight so fast we don't get credit?

It just seems odd that you have the dragon in the middle of a bunch of islands but only a chosen few are able to target him? Especially if all are equal distance from any part of his body.
As for the rewards/chests for this fight, it seems that you should get credit if you have engaged in the entire regional fight and done enough damage to all mobs involved to get 200% participation overall. I can see the amount of chest loot being balanced based upon your actual participation, but to not get credit at all, let alone not get any loot for your participation, seems bugged to me.

I’m not sure if this is what happened, but I participated in an ENTIRE Dragon Stand event yesterday and didn’t get credit for the final boss (and no, I hadn’t done the event recently).
The groups on the islands were on fire—the dragon attacked two islands, didn’t get any of the ley line energy in the bar, and died just as it started on it’s third island. We had one spawn of the pod thing on our island, but the other island attacks were furthest away from my island, so I didn’t bother island hopping. I’m thinking I didn’t get enough damage in for participation?
If this is what happened, there needs to be some sort of credit possible for having 200% participation on the map and being on an island even if participants don’t do damage on the dragon. I mean, our legendary blademaster respawned! The sub-squad I was in killed that thing twice, but I get no credit for the final boss.
I agree with Lupini. I happened to have been involved in my very first DS fight with her last week. We made it to the islands, but I could not get target on the dragon. Is this really how it is supposed to work? That you have to be on an island the dragon actually is targeting in order to be able to target him.???
Doesn’t make sense if he is in between the islands, but only those islands being attacked by him can target him. I got map credit, but not the boss fight credit or chest. Seems to be a really bad design if only those on the island the dragon is actually targeting can target him in return.
I keep choosing Sylvari….I really like the elf concept I can create with them. I have a Norn, a Human and a bunch of Sylvari…I even made my rev a Sylvari. But I have to agree with you about the efforts of various races in JPs.
My first character was a Sylvari Ranger and I still play her the most. My Norn is just way too slow and even though I chose the smallest build I could manage, she is still too large. I get vertigo playing the Charr so once I get my personal story out of the way, I shall delete it. I just hope I can manage to hang in there to finish that story though.
I just created my new warrior this past week and yet again, I chose a Sylvari…I just feel such an affinity with that racial setup. Hard to explain. As for my human character, I made my ele a human, and just have not played her much.
I have noticed I have a tendency to gravitate toward my Ranger when I decide to run in guild groups or solo around the new HoT maps.
I’ve been looking to build a pve warrior just for fun. I am not a pvpr nor do I wish to spvp. I have one of each of the other professions except engineer and warrior, and since I tried engi and was not enamored with it, deleted it.
But I want something to just play around with and have fun revisiting older maps with (which means leveling from scratch) and learning something new. I’ve also been searching for a pve build to level with but all I seem to see is pvp or spvp or WvW setups and the meta is not helpful either.
I’ve never understood why the battle meta pages do not include a pve build for any profession, but I digress….what I am interested in is a decent warrior build I can just roll around the pve world with and not die every 10 steps.
yeppers…yak’s bend I am also a member of OTG and make the best WvW cannon fodder on which ever toon I run with. Oh, I also think the Mordrem know when I am coming their way and rub their collective hands together….lol
:=)
Thank you all for your suggestions…however, I am not enamored of pvp, or charr for that matter. I’ve tried both and walked away….far away. I get vertigo when playing the charr and I am not into pvp.
Even though I am not into pvp, I enjoy the group runs in WvW. What I find fun is running around large maps with our group and trying to outmaneuver our opposition. Its the voice chat in the guild runs that is more interesting during these experiences for me. After all, I am not the best player but can help the group out a bit most of the time.
I am often the first to go down and have to waypoint to spawn, but that’s ok, everyone cheers when by accident I end up being last person standing …that is funny.
I am very glad I ran into this post. I have never played a warrior in GW2 and I’ve played since beta. But, I am looking to try it for the first time because I want something a bit different than my other toons.
Currently I have one of each except warrior and engineer. I’ve tried engi but just could not enjoy it as much so I deleted her. I like my Revenant too but I should have made her something other than a Norn….why is it Norns feel like they are running under water or caught up in sticky mudd? So slowwwwww….
Anyway, I need something different to just play around with to break up my game play a bit. I only pve and, on occasion, WvW with my guild. I am not the best player out there, I am more interested in exploration and pve experiences…pvp is not interesting to me.
As a senior citizen player, I find it really fun to just run around and enjoy the game environment. I am not into having to be the best …but lets face it, at my age (70+) its enough I am actually gaming. Keeps the mind sharp.
But all that aside, would it be an interesting ride for me to create a warrior ??
It’s interesting to know that players of this game have a diverse range of backgrounds.
Much respect to you.
To answer your question, warrior is among top tier in PvE, but low tier in WvW. Like other professions, you’ll see most of your viable attacks being isolated to several traits, weapons, and utilities and never see use of other weapons/traits/utilities. (In the case of warrior, you’re gonna be using a lot of greatsword for PvE)
Thank you for this information. hehehe…I even mentioned to my son what I was thinking of doing and all he could do was cover his face and say “what have I created?” You see, I used to watch him play WoW like it was a spectator sport…he did not like that so he bought me a computer and asked me to create my own account. I’ve not looked back since.
heheheh..he tells all his friends that he created the very first granny gammer in his family. So, even though he shakes his head, he appears proud he encouraged his mom to try it.
I think I shall try that. Now to figure out the race …hmmmmm

Lynspottery,
Gaile was in map chat last night and I was able to speak to her briefly. I thought you would be interested to know that she passed along the idea of generic pants for light females to the devs. She asked me for clarification on whether people wanted armor or Outfits and I specified that MY preference was a single pair of generic pants and not a whole armor set, which she passed along.
Obviously, there’s no guarantee that we will be given these pants, but I thought you’d like to know that someone at Anet was listening and made sure the request was heard.
Thank you so very much…I would be very happy for just generic pants that I could couple with any top, boots, etc., already in game.
Thanks for this information.
My other two light armor characters are Sylvari. I don’t mind the light armor for them because I use only the Snapdragon skins over all their different armor. Fits because they are plants after all and leaves suit them. And this look does not reflect the ridiculous choices only the human female light armor have.
I have tried playing a male character in many of the games I have been involved with, and every single time, I never made it past the first 30 minutes before I deleted said character and re-rolled a female.
I am not exactly comfortable playing a male character, so I will probably not do that. Although I have to laugh at myself for saying that…its just at my age, trying to play a male character feels so …out-of-character…. if you know what I mean. :=}
But I do not want to change my human female to a charr male (which I do not even think is possible). I am not interested in doing that.
And your comment about them making pants is fairly accurate since its been in the forum discussions ever since Beta.
I am still voicing my opinion and hoping they see this feedback. I do not think change comes unless folks ask for it and convince them that it would be something the entire community would be very happy about.

The pants are in game. It’s just that they’re gender locked. This picture shows them, but you have to imagine it without the top and the thigh high boots. Without the top and the boots, they’re a plain, simple pair of pants for light armor. I put them on my female Charr ele to get a clean, non frilly look on her.
Gender locked….great, which probably means my female human will not be able to even use the skin. I would be happy if I could get any pants skin to put over the current legs I have.
But you said you got them for your charr female? How on earth did you pull that off if they are gender locked?
Charr and Asura females wear male armor by default. So, my female Charr ele wears male armor, as well as my female Asura guardian. The female version of that pair of pants that Humans, Norns and Sylvari wear has a short skirt and leggings.
hmmmmm it smells like discrimination to me…. (argh) Not fair at all.

Here is what I have now. But, I do not like the drape of fabric hanging off the side of her pants. Nor do I like short-shorts no matter what is attached to them.
What I would like is to be able to get that entire look —- minus that drape of fabric and the lace short shorts that are called “pants.” Just plain pants instead.
What I did was to use the Exalted light human light leg armor and dyed it so dark that the “short shorts with tights” were not so noticeable. If they can just give us a plain pair of (waist to ankle) pants without lace or fabric attached to the side or back, I would be very happy.
So the entire ensemble consists of:
Berserker’s Seer Coat of the Scholar
Berserker’s Exalted Gloves of the Scholar
Berserter’s Exalted Pants of the Scholar
Masquerade Boots of the Scholar
…and the Tempest Loop shoulder piece

I do not feel that simple pants for light gear armor belongs in the gem store. So many other heavy and medium gear is available in the game to earn and, since I am not asking for a full outfit, only the pants, its seems unlikely to be considered seriously for that type of purchase.
If, however, Anet considers a set with separate pieces (emphasis on separate here) with simple pants included, then that would be a different story. I am happy with a lot of the tops and boots I already have, I just want simple plants without frills, lace or other combinations (“butt cape”).

Maybe we’ll luck out and one of the designers will see the demand and make us a pair of pants. =)
Actually, they would not have to make them at all….there are plenty in the game, they just need to change the restrictions on them to allow light armor wearers to be able to use them.
They have said before that the reason that they can’t have mixing and matching across armor weights was because the 3 types of armor are “fundamentally incompatible.” From what they’ve said the problem seems to be dye channels that don’t match on the UI an each of the 3 weights have seams in different places. Heavy chests for example have seams at the waist. Medium chests have a seam further down. It’s probably really buggy, or even impossible, to try to get a piece with a seam on the legs to transmute to a place on the wardrobe UI that’s designed for a seam at the waist, and vice versa.
Very good ….but we are discussing pixels here, not real fabric. If, in fact, pixels dyed differently due to the programming behind the development of the image, then they really missed the mark. Reason I say that is because I’ve seen all kinds of similar “fabric” items not take colors alike at all So the next question would be, what general code can be adjusted behind the scenes, globally, to each particular dye lot to “smooth” that out?
I have no problem having my ele wear the medium leather armor look as a skin or even have leather pants matched with a cotton or silk top. So how would that affect the dye? I just don’t buy that argument at all. What I am hearing from that statement is a resounding “no” we don’t want to do that.
Not a matter of can, but a matter of not wanting to.
Maybe we’ll luck out and one of the designers will see the demand and make us a pair of pants. =)

The lack of diversity in clothing, regardless of armor class (light, medium or heavy) seems to be the norm in GW2. I did a search for things that I wanted to see available as a costume item to cover up the real armor my ele is wearing, and there is very little.
If I can get a decent look to my armor on my Ranger and on my Revenant, I see no reason why I can’t get the same for my elementalist. Just does not make sense.
I’m a 66 year old grandfather (’ampa) with two daughters. I try to be sensitive to gender issues, including female role models. When my youngest daughter (now 26) was leveling her first character, she asked me why all the low level armor left her character half undressed. Good question.
When I was leveling my Mesmer, I felt like half the time all I could see was her rear end in my face.
I understand that GW2 is a fantasy game centered about combat. But as I survey the available clothing, I see male clothing as “rugged and tough” but female clothing as “sexual.” Sorry, that’s just me. And that perceived gender bias is the meaning of the word “sexist.”
Thank you Ampa. You have expressed it very eloquently. I’m an over 70 female player and really have not liked the light armor I see offered when my medium or heavy armor females can get really nice looking gear.
All I want is to be able to use the same “look” on my light armor wearer without having to see garters w/stockings, extra mini-skirts, lace encrusted tights (you get the idea here). After all, its not like the item is not available in the game at all, just restricted and that makes absolutely no sense.
Yea…Anet really does need to address this. It’s long overdue in my opinion.
I am aware that the devs’ and designers’ wish to maintain their own vision of various things in those very games they are selling to the public. However, they tend to forget that particular restriction they created when they ask for feedback, and appear silent on the issues when the community offers volumes of suggestions that really won’t break the game.
This might be how a lot of folks see this, obviously it is your viewpoint as well, however, I do disagree that it is set in stone and cannot be different.
Okay? I mean I’m not asking for it to be set in stone? I didn’t say anything like that. I hope one day they make something you like.
As it stands though? It is what it is. The look you want doesn’t belong to the armor class you selected.
You can hold out hope for a pair of medium armor inspired pants that you might find acceptable some day down the road.
Or, roll a class with the armor that has the look you want. Do as you will.
Whoa…did not think I would upset you. I was enjoying the back and forth discussion.
In fact I was obliquely making a bit of fun of the designer’s choices in the meantime.
Yes, all designs in the game meet a certain expectation by the designers of the game. They follow a theme, loosely.
You picked a light armor class, a mage of some school of magic, which are part and parcel for flowing ornamental clothing (for both female and male) in most fiction.
Even so, pants and non-risque options do exist for the light armor class. Several have been pointed out. Use the wardrobe in your bank to figure out a look for yourself.
This might be how a lot of folks see this, obviously it is your viewpoint as well, however, I do disagree that it is set in stone and cannot be different.
I sincerely hope you find what you’re looking for.
If the aesthetic is that important to you, it really might be worthwhile for you to reroll a medium or heavy armor class.
If you’re playing a human female, maybe try out a norn. You can make them look much more mature and tested.
I should not have to change to a different character type just for the pants. That is totally unacceptable.
Just because I have a human female for my ele, should not restrict my choice of costume garments. The thing I keep trying to point out here is, if you look at the exact same item on all female gear weights, it shows (as the tool tip says) as pants on the heavy and medium, but not on light.
I do believe I make a valid point in this regard.
I do not believe costume clothing should be restricted based upon gear weight worn by any character either. If you are using separate pieces to create a particular look there really should be a broader offering than just what is restricted to light armor according to the developer’s choices.
As for “outfits,” however, they seem to be a complete look and cannot be separated. If you use a “skin” there are no stats attached to it, therefore, it should not be a problem to keep the exact look regardless what it is chosen to cover up.
I really do not think my posting was sexist. Please to not attribute that view point to me.
I didn’t say your post was sexist. At least it didn’t begin that way.
You said the devs were being sexist by not having pants catered to your particular tastes, and edited your original post a few mins ago to whitewash your rhetoric.
You started with a simple request and no one could fault you for suggesting more options.
You really should have stuck to the core of that instead of following after posters who want to make it a SJW issue.
It doesn’t help your cause and it makes you look bad.
I cannot fault your reasoning, but I edited my post after I reread it and realized it did not reflect what I was trying to say. As for the sexism topic, its unfortunate that comes up in any genre. But ignoring it is not a solution either.
However, folks discussing genre and characterization do have a right to state what they think. I don’t always agree but I have to say that, like it or not, it is inherent in the way character gear appears, based upon a certain expectation by the designer, and not the player.
At my age, I just cannot see myself in some of those frilly, fru fru outfits even if my characters appear young. I am over 70 years after all, and I have to laugh at the image of my wrinkled self wearing some of those outfits gets me giggling all the time.
I want to send out a huge “thank you” to everyone posting here. I am impressed the thread has actually contributed to the “conversation” for plain pants on light armor female characters.
I have seen all different threads from beta to present day and its the same idea in a continuous line….plain pants for light armor female characters….NOW to get someone at Anet to actually help us achieve this.
I appreciate all commentary and believe me, I am not bashing anyone, just asking for something I think is a simple request.
I’m honestly impressed with how this went from:
“I want more simple pants for the light armor class”
to
“This game is sexist against women because I can’t find enough pants to my liking, regardless if they exist or not (spoiler: they do) in the light armor department”.
I mean if it matters that much to you, maybe consider rolling a medium or a heavy class character with an aesthetic you can accept?
I really do not think my posting was sexist. Please to not attribute that view point to me.
Believe me, I’ve tried every combination in the book, and then some including dying things so dark you can’t see stuff. But when you do that, you run the risk that the fabric won’t take the color correctly and end up with dots of color where you don’t want them.
Something like this?
Too bad I can’t use the “look” as wardrobe over my regular gear. But for some reason Anet says that unless you are a (name the weight here) armor wearer, you can’t use it.
So unless it comes in Light and actually looks like that, I am left out in the cold.
Necrotic that is pretty close..although I think the hat has a bit more at the top than my coolie one and your outfit still has that short skirt over the top of the pants.
However, It would be really cool if they had the Vampire hunter hat and costumes.
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
I took a screen shot of the costume armor that my Rift Mage wears in game. If that game can do the pants theme, then I know GW2 can do it as well. This is similar to what I am attempting to find (not necessarily with the hat).
The gear she is wearing actually are separate pieces I chose to achieve the look. I do not see any reason why GW2 cannot do something similar.
I wish I could afford any ascended gear…I just beggared myself for ascended weapons. But that still doesn’t address my initial concern. Why don’t light armor for females have plain pants?
This is the reason I decided I would no longer play my Norn. It seems to me that in tight spaces, the Norns just don’t fit.
I often discuss this effect with other folks I play with and we all have come to the same conclusion….the game was designed around the Asura sized character. It just seems to fit better.
And as a result, light armor I often resort to using outfits.
Too much light armor resembles curtains more than actual clothing.
Sorry, but it has to be linked:
I remember that episode. I laughed till I cried…she carried it off so well too.
There’s a difference between skimpy vs. full coverage and having a range of clothing styles.
If all you’re concerned about is how much skin is showing I actually think GW2’s female armour gives you a great range of options. Light armour for example has everything from Devout (where only your face is visible) to Apprentice (which is basically a strappy bikini) and if you mix and match pieces you can get even more options (e.g. devout top with something like the Aurora leggings which are a mini skirt and tights for something that’s still full coverage but less overtly modest.)
But virtually all of the armour on offer is the same style – in this case a top and skirt or skirt/leggings combo. For medium armour it’s long coats and trousers (in contrast to light about 90% of medium leg armour is plain trousers) and for heavy of course it’s plate/chain/scale mail.
(There’s also a serious lack of revealing male armour. Apart from a few heavy pieces you’ll have a hard time even having bear arms and apparently shorts have yet to be invented in Tyria.)
This is sadly very true. Unfortunately, the Devout style also includes a skirt.
As for male armor, I have seen a few characters running around with crossed straps for tops and the speedo bottoms. Not sure how they achieved that, but it was interesting.
I know a lot of movies with “heros” tend to have skimpy male attire for their costumes, but I’ve not seen many reproduced in this game.
And as a result, light armor I often resort to using outfits.
Too much light armor resembles curtains more than actual clothing.
OMG………when I read your post, I turned to look at my windows….which, incidentally, actually are covered with translucent sheers. But, the image of my ele wearing curtains is definitely cringeworthy.
lol
I listed several armor sets that include leg coverage. I will say it again more clearly. YOU have to accept SHORTCOMINGS to your expectations like I HAVE with the realistic looking armor set i have tried to put together for my main. Nothing is perfect unless you can design it for yourself.
…sigh, if folks did not address this “oversight” in light armor gear, Anet will probably continue to NOT offer something a lot of players might want.
It does nothing to ignore and accept anything. If suggestions are made and Anet actually looks into them, there just might be some changes made. After all, they have made changes before.
I have been trying to snag together different items for an outfit. I’ve come close to what I want but its not perfect ..except for the missing “pants” or “leggings” issue, its close but as they say, “no cigar” yet.
Also, if I go with an “outfit” I am stuck with the entire thing not just one part of the outfit. It would be nice if we could separate bottoms, from tops in order to mix and match what we want from outfits, but I gather the reason Anet created “outfits” to begin with was to offer a complete look without having to cobble together different items for it.
I had this happen to me a couple of days ago while in the middle of LA crafting. But the critical point here is once that happens, take a screen shot of your chat box showing the messages w/the name of the spammer.
After reporting them and blocking them, go open a CS ticket explaining what just happened. Since you won’t be able to add an attachment to the ticket, wait for the CS reply in your mail, then reply to that with the screen shot attachment to show what you received.
RMT spammers are always trying to get around the blocks Anet puts into place, so if you get something new like this, report it in this manner with the proof of the screen shot. At least that will give their folks a way to research and ferret out the root of the accounts in question in order to ban them.
There are pants. You have to accept minor flaws like i have with what i want. Devout and student armor sets have pants and the ascalonian performer have leggings at the very least. And op dont bother bringing in sexism cause that is a foolish acusation considering there are male armor sets like gladiator that show plenty of skin and the main characters are lesbians and have the largest spotlight…
If and when I use the term sexist, I am referring to a female wanting to wear “pants,” only to be given short skirts, tutus, or partial skirt with front cut open to show legs with garters and stockings (this last item looks to me like a bordello outfit from centuries ago). Such outfits are not by choice, but foisted on the player under a false tag.
I am not against women, or men for that matter, who want to wear such outfits, but to foist the look onto something that clearly says “pants” or “leggings” in the tool tip and have it morph into something else entirely, is my argument.
Also, I find it odd that if you look at those same “pants” or “leggings” on a female who can only wear medium or heavy gear, they look exactly like what the tool tip says they are. But these very same items morph on a light armor wearer? Please ….I do not wish to wear such things.
Why is it so hard to understand that when you have a tool tip saying “pants” or “leggings” that you actually expect to see that on your female light armor?
It would offend me to no end going into Macy’s to purchase “pants” or “leggings,” then picking up said item to try on in the dressing room, only to find I am now wearing a skirt, tutu or skirt with front cut open accompanied by garters and hose?
I think Macy’s would land in court for false advertisement at the very least.
But my point here is: Why on earth can’t female light armor wearers get the same look from “pants” or “leggings” as their medium and heavy armor counterpart compatriots?
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
Female cloths are crap. Clearly the target demographic is 14-18 year old males.
I gave up long ago and just bought a Jungle Explorer Outfit.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jungle_Explorer_Outfit
I don’t believe that the cause of girl gamers is served by this sexist bias. Just my opinion.
Girl gamers…well, I don’t quite fit that category since I am over 70 years of age. I am beyond frilly lacy stuff that I see.
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
But that is not the look I want. Currently I have been using this look. Illustrious I think is the name of it. But even so, the “short shorts” over tights is still not what I want. They also have silly lace things around them and just looks stupid, but it is better than all the other idiotic leggings I have looked at.
Calling a piece of gear “pants” or “leggings” begs the question when you preview it and it looks like a tutu, short skirt or front open skirt that looks like it came directly out of a bordello.
Medium legs actually look like pants on my female, but because I wear light gear, they won’t work.
(edited by lynspottery.6529)
Anet, I have searched high and low without success. I am trying to find simple “pants” for my human elementalist.
However, the only set I found that I liked, was the Aetherblade heavy armor. But discovered my character cannot use the skin because she is a light armor wearer. Why does it appear differently on light armor wearer? In my opinion it should look the same regardless of what level of armor my character actually can use.
The heavy set gives me the look I am after, but for my light armor I get a skirt? If you look at all these “light” armor sets, you cannot see any simple pants anywhere.
For that try the Ascalonian pants and then rummage through the Wardrobe in a bank tab to pick out a top and boots.
I have searched, and unfortunately, I have been unable to find just plain, smooth looking pants. Take a look at all the images in this link and you will see there is nothing there that remotely resembles what I am looking for.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_female_light_armor
I am really disappointed that Anet has ignored this issue in their designing of light armor for females. And, I only have one human character but refuse to put her into an outfit that is so sexist it makes me irritated. I want something simple and straight forward.
I read “pants” and get skirts, tutus or bordello outfits that are not what I want.
I have actually been amazed that all the so called “balancing” of professions is applied with only one aspect in mind…either pvp or pve. Why do they have to have a balance work in one and destroyed in another with the same profession?
Why can’t they just have pvp work differently than pve when balancing occurs, have it affect one or the other but not both? I find it odd that they can limit gear stats between pvp or pve, but can’t do the same for professions and skill applications.
What I really want is armor skin that looks like leather pants with leather top (vest or long sleeve) with knee high boots (I already have some that work for this) and for the entire image to look like a “Biker Set” of riding leathers that can be dyed.
The image I am thinking of is similar to what “Sandy” wore in Grease. Loved that look. Of course she is wearing heels, but hey, that would be cool too…I am thinking of this outfit for my human elementalist…in red with silver accouterments (buttons, strips of chain…)
My son just said it looks really bad a** but he’s never seen any armor in games that have covered that genre of clothing, unless it was heavy and possibly medium armor … never in light. Of course he thinks his mom playing these games is hilarious…but I have fun.

Yes I saw the light set, but it does not look anything like the heavy set. If you take a look at the human images for both you can see a marked difference.
I really like the look of that set…too bad I can’t use the look on my light armor wearers.
It’s not a costume, the Aetherblade sets are actual armor skins.
I thought those things were only costume ….
I am really wanting to use the Aetherblade Heavy Armor look (without the helm) for my light armor wearing toons. From what I can tell it is only costume, but for some reason it states it can only be used by characters that wear heavy armor.
Not fair. I have been looking for “leather” looking stuff because I am not a fan of all the short skirts, tutus and corsets that seem to permeate light armor styles. I don’t like lace, nor do I like fru fru stuff.
I finally find something I want to purchase off the BL Market and my light armor wearing toons cannot even use it.
This restriction for costume apparel makes absolutely no sense.
