Why can’t the Ranger get the druid staff? seems like these are rather sparse given the fact many professions can now use other weapons like the Ranger/Druid using staff.
I think the issue Ardenwolfe was arguing about is that while the events can be done in small groups, you cannot cannot reliably progress the map meta. For all four maps, you need a full map.
There’s also a limitation as you only have so much time to work towards the map meta before your progress gets reset via a final map meta (nightfall, gerent, defend tarir) or an entire map reset (DB). Players with limited, or fragmented, play schedules can never participate in the entire meta and are often times unable to join maps as they are full.
It’s less about being able to do events and more to do about wanting to participate with other players while progressing the meta in a meaningful way.
Well said, I am one of the above mentioned players, causal fun has now become hard core time management, neglect the pets game play. Not what I expected from (not so) HoT.
I agree here. I am a casual player and I do belong to a very large guild.
I participate as I can and because my guild does setup a series of events on a time frame we all can meet, we are able to participate in some of the meta events (even if some have to leave halfway through due to RL issues), overall everyone gets a chance.
But its impossible to solo everything. I myself have had to postpone my story because of the meta events. Because the poor npc just died and his camp is being, well, camped by the enemy. I can’t take on the whole lot by myself in order to speak with him to progress my story, so I am forced to wait it out or just come back another time.
Well signs The only thing you get from 100% complete is stuff for legendary. I think if u call yourself casual u will not get legendary anyway. It’s total of 40HP and u need 25 for elite. And it’s not like u running around solo either. And the small events pre meta is easy solable.
I think the word you want to use here is “since” not signs (“signs” are directional placards indicating directions, or provide information).

At first the GM didn’t even understand my problem because he had no idea what an attuned ring was, so I had to link him/her to the corresponding Wiki entry (couldn’t find it themselves), which is frankly laughable.
A GM did not know what you were talking about? That fact alone makes me worry about the quality of help we get.
If their own support folks have no idea what this stuff is and don’t have access to the main data base to look them up, you gotta wonder about that.
I just happened to pop in here to see what progress has been made on the bugs…and it appears Anet added a big one.
Raid entrance in the map instead of its own instance? This is an epic fail. The first thing I thought of was, “Why on earth would they do something that would bug out the entire map seeing as there are so many world events that pop into that map that require high participation?”
The common knowledge is that once the map population reaches a certain level a new map is opened and no one else can enter the original. As there are problems with the events succeeding on any given map at any population level, if you have 1/2 of the population just standing idle waiting on a raid group, they are not participating in the event, consequently said event fails.
Who thought this was a good idea? I would suggest the dev team find that person and string them up by their toenails.
There are way too many issues in the new HoT maps to worry about without Anet adding another one to the pile intentionally. If not intentional, then the person who made that decision does not play the game, therefore, has no intimate knowledge of how said maps work.
If this last is the case, I respectfully suggest Anet provides adequate training to their teams making these types of decisions. Or at the very least have someone with that knowledge oversee and check off on these decisions before implementation. After all, all pilots are trained to follow their check list to verify all items on it work before they fly their airplanes. (my dad was a pilot and this was the holy grail)
Just ran across this thread about precurser bugs. Why is Anet not responding to this mess? Its been 26 days since the thread started and Andrew responded 24 days ago but I have not seen any update from the devs on this.
Folks are really having issues getting things that Anet said they needed for their legendary weapons. So why have they not fixed these things? So many appear to be simple fixes.
I was looking into doing my legendary but after seeing this and looking over the listing of things I needed for my legendary, I shall probably not even bother. I’ll look into using my exotics for a bit longer and move onto ascended instead.
What a mess.
Those shrine-like things in your screenshot are used just prior to the defend part of the meta. If you can read the encryptions you go through them to a little sub-game and can earn one of a limited number of enchanted armors
There are encryptions on them? I never noticed that. I’ll check that out…but still my point is, why not have rez points even if over in a corner somewhere out of the way instead of making a defeated player have to use a waypoint across the zone that is not contested.
The problem I see is by the time you manage to get back to where you needed to go, the fight is over…or you ended up in a completely different iteration of the map you started on.
Really bad design.

I’ve only been playing GW2 for 3 weeks now, and as a Mesmer, I can assure you you I rarely “feel 6 feet tall” no matter how many times I’m told it!!
lol, especially if you are playing an Asura.
I’ve never understood the mentality of developers to NOT use something that worked in an earlier game design. Not to be used in an updated portion of the same game??
Makes more sense to use what works than not. After all you already have the tools and the programming…how hard would it be to incorporate it?
For example I don’t have a problem with evading enemies. But those hylek just ’evade almost every ranged attack just by standing there. I think that is a very cheap way too lenghten fights and compensate for their artificial stupidity.
You mean the hyleks that specifically state in their ability description: evades ranged attacks? You simply don’t range them, just as you don’t melee a smokescale right inside its smoke field. Get in close to the hylek, and it’ll fall in just a few hits. Or just put something reflecting in its path, it’ll shoot itself to death with its own projectile attack before you know it (works wonders on snipers, too, btw
).
Thanks for this info…I am just now starting through the HoT content and have been doing my due diligence on fight mechanics of different mobs to see what gear set I would be better off using.
This makes it much easier…I thank you. :=)

Build templates have been asked for in GW2 ever since I started playing it back in beta. I have not really seen any dev commentary on this suggestion. But I could have missed it since the search function on the forums sucks eggs.
I second the motion to have build templates available for each line setup we use in our current builds which makes perfect sense. Can’t switch in combat but that should not be a problem. Since I’ve not played many other games that offer build templates except for Rift, I see nothing wrong with having this ability.
I currently have to have a piece of paper and pen beside me just to jot down what I use for each build I like, and its a pain to switch to in a pinch. Because in many cases there is gear and weapon sets that have to be used with each type of build as well.
I think Anet might be better off considering “Rez Points” instead of waypoints for defeated players. Rez points are in many games and are not places where folks can just portal in from outside. It is set to a specific task…that of rezzing defeated players.
Something like this would be a better option than more waypoints, or even uncontested waypoints, considering the possibilities folks are discussing about zergs popping in and causing mayhem if waypoints were changed to uncontested.
So I get involved in a zone event and finally get defeated…but, there are no waypoints I can rez at that are clear. All points are contested except the one in the very center of the Forgotten City?
Please Anet, you really need to have some sort of rez spot for these events that don’t require you to rez at a waypoint all the way across the zone. Not being able to rez nearby is making it impossible to get back to the event you were involved with.
Fix it so that we can at least rez somewhere even if it is not a waypoint….just a rez spot on a small platform out of the way in the same zone you are involved with the event. You want folks to be able to get back to the event they were fighting with in order to progress it? You need to rethink rez spots.!!!
Even in other games that have portals of some sort for travel, you find rez spots nearby that allow you to rez then hop back into the fray to continue the fight you were involved with.
I ran across several of these in the Forgotten City. They look like likely candidates that can be placed around the zones as a rez spot. These would work pretty well if programmed for rez only. Not sure what they are used for as I’ve not seen them being used anytime I’ve been around them.

I have sylvari characters and it is annoying that I cannot turn this constant spam exclamation off. It is getting old. Not to mention the “This rose has thorns and here they are!”
Please find a way to make this voice exclamation from our characters to be toggled OFF.
Sick of hearing it.
This is the very reason I have not gone after any ascended, or even a legendary, yet. I simply cannot afford it.
I just sent an item in the mail to another guildie from the guild hall and just as soon as I hit the send button my game froze up and crashed.
I had to use my task manager to close out the game in order to unfreeze my system.
Obviously, no crash message box to send a report.
Since Anet has introduced support/healing specs into the game, they should at least get recognized for their support/healing effort too. It should not always be based on damage alone.
I posted in another thread and realized it was in the old GW2 area and not included in the HoT section. So I am pulling it into this thread.
Here is the original location: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Event-Participation-Healing/first#post5761820

Participation seems to be more than being involved with any event, period. What I have found is that anyone in a support/healing role actually gets bronze almost all the time no matter if you started with the beginning of a group event or popped in somewhere in the middle.
THIS lack of support/healing metric for rewards is a problem and needs to be addressed. With the new healing specs coming into the game, Anet SHOULD HAVE looked at that metric and added it to the design for participation based rewards.

THIS is also a problem. Getting disconnected and trying to get back in is not the only problem Anet needs to address.
Oh, I read the title and expected to see “headache” avalanche of commentary. Sorry, it gave me a giggle.
I’ve not gotten that far in to the game yet so was unaware this was part of the Story 4 segment. But the forum thread title did get a laugh. :=)
It’s not a bug. It was for April fools. There is an item you can buy in the gem store that you place on the ground. Anyone can click the item and it makes this happen until they click it again. Or you can probably zone or something to disable the effect. I can see the transformation icon on you bar.
Well then someone in the crowd just took advantage of the “loot” chest and placed it down…and of course in all the mayhem everyone is clicking like mad to make sure they can access the loot chest.
I did not look around to see if anyone else was affected because I thought it was a bug.
I did the Wurm tonight for the daily, and look at my character. I noticed about 1/2 way through the fight my character’s arms were out to the side of my toon and did not match the skill movement for anything I did.
She just kept this pose regardless of which skill she was using with the staff. This happened some time ago and I have no idea what caused the bug then, but now its back and with a vengeance.
I was able to take this screen shot after the fight was over…but what a mess.
I posted on this crystal ore issue not too long ago https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Quartz-crystals-once-per-account-per-day/first#post5745840
Big problem is that our guild upgrades also require this material as well and in large quantities. Its hard enough to farm sufficient to refine 25 pcs into one charged crystal but you need 5 charged for each pc of gear.
I find this odd but I shall have to check it out…someone told me you can get crystal ore mining in HoT maps too from regular ore nodes. Until I experience this I cannot say its true yet.
BTW here is the wiki page explaining “Quartz Crystal Formations are resource nodes. Each node can be mined once per day, per account (not per character).”
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Quartz_Crystal_FormationThe sad part of this is that one location is no longer in the game.
Labyrinthine Cliffs (historical); Bazaar Docks
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Labyrinthine_CliffsUmmmm I think you are confused… this topic has nothing to do with anything in your post…
I just realized that …I thought both were the same type of ore…sorry…

Thank you Dead, appreciate the info.
I have received the Reaper’s Great Sword and for its base stats you have a choice between Berserker’s, Knight’s and Trailblazer’s ….so which is going to be the better to use?
I am currently running with Berserker’s Exotic Gear and plan to build my ascended gear set soon. But this is really new that we are offered these choices…I like all of them, but as with most things, some will be better than others based upon the profession that uses the sword.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
I just completed an entire Crusader’s Exalted set of gear…but for some reason the boot recipe is no where to be found.
I have the mats to discover them as I had the rest of the set, but the discovery option in crafting refuses to provide the boot recipe.
So what happened to the boots? Is my toon to go into battle with the entire Crusader’s set …………but barefoot???
This is obviously a bug. Please fix this.
Even the wiki is missing this particular boot listing….
I really would love to see this option added to our setup. I change my builds from time-to-time and find I have to write down what I chose for what and which gear/accessories/weapons I used with each build. Its tedious and time consuming and takes away from what you are headed for.
I find I have to tell my group…“hold on a moment while I change my stuff” and that is an irritant, not only to me but to the group as well. I don’t always have the build I want to play with setup when I get involved with a last minute group.
I sat through the entire video, but I think it could have been better edited. I agree with a lot of points he made but think some things could have been explained better. I left feeling a bit confused over all.
But since I may only play through the personal story once on my main, I doubt I’ll bother with any alts. I hate repeating things if the outcome will be the same with different player choices, which is the impression I got on this.
But I think everyone needs to take any reviews with a grain of salt. Most reviews are done from “that” player’s perspective and may not align with your own if you experience the same play through.
This is the main reason I do not really worry about participating in these huge events. The few times I did get disconnected and it happened, I decided not to worry about getting involved until Anet fixed this problem.
If you get disconnected the game should at the very least, remember your participation % and reserve your spot in the map you were in so you can get back in where you were to finish it.
But because it does not at present, I am waiting.
Quartz crystals once per account/per day!!

To me, the real kicker is guild hall upgrades. You need (at least afaik) 7 celestial insignias and 7 celestial inscriptions— each requiring 5 charged crystals. Then several dozens of ley line tools (1 charged crystal each) and hundreds of raw crystals. Yes, everyone working together, etc. Was the plan to have guilds running Dry Top and SW every day? It’s a very effective time gate.
Yea…this is also something I am trying to help my guild with, although I did not include that in my posting. But having sufficient crystals so difficult to get per day and limiting locations, really is an irritant.
I want to help my guild out with these, but I am not able to in any event since I need said crystals for my stuff too.

Thank you all for the input. I did not find the 3rd crash site location…although I looked everywhere in that vicinity for it so it must be in where the inquest is. I’ll have to see if I can find it.
As for the celestial gear…yea…I was thinking of a set…kind of a bummer that certain gear requires a more difficult road to acquire than some others. But it is what it is and I’ll just have to deal with it.

I’ve never found the rich node and can only get 3 crystal pcs from my home node. The only other ones I found were the two by the crash site and there is one behind an event that is not available until you do the event…I’ve only managed to see it available once and that was it.
There are no other nodes that I am aware of since the Zepherites ship is not in game any longer.
And I was able to mine the open world ones on more than one toon each day so that is why I am irritated over this.

Posted by: lynspottery.6529
Just found out I can only mine the quartz crystals once a day on my account…and only with one character.
This is ridiculous, especially since we have so few nodes in the world and they only provide 3 pieces each node. Not to mention our crafting requires so many for gear. You need 25 crystals to be able to refine into 1 charged per day per account.
So now this has effectively reduced us to enormous burdens of high amounts of mats that can’t be mined adequately. See this wiki page which was last modified on 1 November 2015, at 13:32.
I ended up purchasing the item, but I wanted the recipe instead.
I am trying to do my crafting and wanted the Minstrel’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscription. But all my searches show that this particular item’s recipe is BEHIND a mastery gate.
Why? This is a crafting recipe…I don’t mind learning it using materials or even the mystic forge, but why does it have to be gated behind a mastery?
Makes absolutely no sense to me.
I have been concentrating on learning the Druid for the past several weeks. I finally got some of my points so that I could unlock it and start trying the staff out.
I am really enjoying the staff. Currently I run LB/Staff, carrying extra weapons to switch to in my bag if I want to or see the need to (sw/axe + wh for speed).
Last night I ran my ranger on staff in two separate Toxic events, one in Gendarran Fields and the other in Brisban Wildlands. We succeeded clearing both and my staff was my main weapon for both.
I was impressed with the healing abilities to help out those melee folks and then used the Ancestral Grace to become a wisp rushing into the middle of it all to heal my allis up, dodge rolling out without getting downed. I did not die once in those, downed but able to rally off lower health enemies I targeted when they died.
I have to admit I had my concerns before trying this out. My gear is still only Exotic as are my weapons and most of my accessories. I think I have maybe 1 or 2 ascended pieces but most were exotic.
Using Knight’s Sneakthief armor with superior runes of the Ranger was a great decision as it gave me a lot power, precision and toughness. I shall be revisiting my gear, runes and sigil selections now that I see how this is working for me.

I had the same problem. The updraft shown in the Dulfy guide seems to have been moved further away and further up, making it impossible to reach from the ledge Dulfy jumps from. Very frustrating.
I am wondering if the updrafts are random? It would seem to fit since updrafts in the real world are not only random in location but in intensity. Would make sense for them to be somewhat random in the game.
Another issue I found late yesterday was that my sound mixer no longer shows GW2 game sounds in its listing.
What on earth is going on here.??? Do I have to revert back to 32bit for it to work properly?
I just checked both the 32bit and the 64bit login to the game and took screen shots of the sound volume mixer box to show you the differences I am seeing. In the 32bit the game sound shows up in the mixer, but in the 64bit it is not there.
I cannot adjust for the sound except through the game option panel which is a pain because I never had to do that before. I used to be able to adjust the sound for the game vs the other sound options like mumble which also does not show up in the 64bit. I know it shows up in the 32bit, I just did not include it since I was not logged into mumble when I checked this.

I find it more offensive that we go through a 90 minute event only to have the boss launch his loot all over the zone in a death throe. Imaging a D&D game where the party busts their posterior, kill the CR30 dragon, then the dragon laughs hysterically as he casts his final spell that scatters the treasure all over all levels of the World’s Largest Dungeon, then the whole place begins to shake as the magic that was holding it fails. You have 10 minutes to get out of the dungeon and get all your loot on the way out.
I would anticipate player revolt at the gaming table.
…lol, I think your post made its way into the wrong thread. I was posting specifically about the crystalline ores.

I think updrafting is a skill you need to earn points to train.
So far I’ve only found 3 nodes I can get them from: my home instance node (which gives about 3 pcs
if you are speaking of charged quartz, the home instance node has a good chance to give +5 quartz on at least one strike of the pickaxe, and a small chance to just grant a Charged Quartz outright.
Well it must be extremely rare because in all the time I have been mining it the most I have gotten was 3 and never got the charged one at all.
I am not really after runes but if I recall correctly, you need these crystalline ores for armor as well.
So far I’ve only found 3 nodes I can get them from: my home instance node (which gives about 3 pcs), and the two in Drytop near the crash site and one of the vistas (each gives about the same count of crystals).
You need 25 to refine into one major and you can only do this refining once a day per account. And you need 5 of the refined ones per piece of gear.

it’s not about the time you put into the event or time spent out of the event. it’s about your contribution to the event. (or your party’s contribution)
example (using arbitrary numbers for ease of calculations)
in a pewpew event 10 enemies spawn,to get gold you need to get credit for 9-10 kills
to get silver you need to get credit 5-8 kills
to get bronze you need to get credit 3-5 killsin a escort mission. you would get rewards based on the time spent protecting the target. (assuming 10 minutes to get from point A to point B. this is variable of course)
10 whole minutes = gold
less than 10 more than 5 = silver
less than 5 more than 2 = bronzein a limited quantity fetch mission “thanks for your help” (10 items)
7 or more = gold
3-7 = silver
1-2 = bronzeBoss Events (this one is tricky)
use a calculation that allows % damage dealt “if solo” then split into G/S/B
use a calculation that allows % damage dealt “if party” then split into G/S/B
+ bonus 10% if spent 100% time (no deaths)in the event AND get a silver reward or morethe issue is that time is the wrong metric to use to calculate inactivity.
reasoning:
most people should be getting the silver reward as
gold is for exceptional participation
bronze is to allow people that came late to still get something, this way it doesnt matter
Contributions should include reviving, support healing, etc., not just kills. Anet introduced new healing capabilities for a reason. I think they forgot that it is a contribution to the group working the event overall. Just because you do not do a high dps but heal a bunch of folks so they can, should not shut you out of the rewards and credit for contributing to said event.
Has the 32-bit client and OOM been linked to the nVidia driver crash or will the new client not help with that?
*Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
The description for Event ID 13 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. *
That sounds unrelated. If it happens again you should try downloading new nVidia drivers.
I just checked on my nVidia selection from the program management box and you can add the new .exe file to the list of items it will work with.
But on another note Johan, it appears that mumble overlay for chat is not recognized with the new client. Is there a fix or work around for this? I would hate to have to revert to the 32bit just to be able to voice chat with my guild members.

The fact that you get little to no credit at all for support stuff like reviving, healing and other support activity means to me that Anet forgot the support stuff as being contributing factors in any event.

maps are not deserted i would say you are either not in the right places or are having terrible luck with the mega servers
I had to laugh when I read this because we had the very same problem inside our guild hall the other evening. I cannot understand how a guild hall map can bump you out for having 5 players in it.
Then we have 5-10 players in the next map we get bumped into, and still get a map bump.
What on earth is going on with this map bump stuff? Mega servers ??? If they are indeed mega servers, you would have thought there was an ability to logically count the numbers for the maps and pull them together correctly.
).
