Have you tried doing a repair/reinstall?
yes…I’ve done all that and ended up redownloading the GW2.dat launcher …I had to change the name of the GW2.dat to GW2.old in order to fix things.
Really sucks when you have a good system and it gets borked up in game.
Just did challenge myself no issues found, can post screen if you’d like.
That’s ok…but I wonder why I can’t see my own shots hitting the mountain? I see others, but not mine.
Makes it hard to adjust if you can’t see where your shots are hitting to adjust for.
Apparently this skill challenge was broken before but I’ve not seen any commentary saying it has been fixed. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/300ig8/horrible_bloodtide_coast_skill_challenge_bug/
I really would like a dev to take a look at this broken skill challenge. I know it was working back when I brought my main through here but my revenant can’t obtain it.
I ran my revenant through the Bloodtide Coast yesterday opening the map, getting xp and picking up skill challenges, however, there is one that seems bugged.
I remember doing the Deputy Crackshot of the Lionguard at Stormbluff Beacon challenge on my ranger. That was some time ago, but I remember distinctly seeing my shot hit the hillside so that I could adjust the cannon accordingly to hit a target.
Yesterday, I spent some time trying to get this done, but you could not see anything hit the hillside when you fired your cannon. I adjusted my cannon in order to see if I could hit any of the targets, but I was unable to target properly since I had no idea where my shot was actually hitting.
I could see other’s fire off their cannons and watch their shot hit the hillside, but did not see any hit a target. Do not know if they had issues with the targeting as I was, but a few kept trying different cannons, then left the area without succeeding.
What I remember from when my ranger did this challenge is not what I experienced yesterday at all. Not being able to adjust your cannon based upon where your shot hit the hill, makes it impossible to see if you are close to any target or overshooting it.
What Maxx said. LS2 gives the best experience from a story continuity point of view. It is not required. You can never play through the PS, LS1, LS2 and still play HoT without restriction.
Seems like this might cause a problem for folks who came in new and purchased HoT but did not get the other stories. I remember coming back in before the end of LS2 and used my extra gems to open that up for my main so I could finish it before HoT dropped.
But I don’t think that is an option for new folks with only the HoT purchase. So how will they get some of the “restricted” things if they can’t access the LS2?
Why 1 Revenant stance w/Underwater Utility?

Shiro works as well, it’s the only 2 legends.
Oddly to you have to manually switch them every single time you enter water and leave water.
Yea…this is a PITA…
I do not understand why it is manual and if you don’t have either loaded in to begin with, you have to open the selections up to chose one of them too.
Revenant also seems to be missing utility skills underwater unless you are currently in the Legendary Demon stance.
Assassin also works underwater.
aah…ok, thanks. I had not tried that line yet.
Just seems a bit imbalanced to have so few options compared to other professions.
Revenant also seems to be missing utility skills underwater unless you are currently in the Legendary Demon stance.

I have discovered that unless I have Legendary Demon slotted as one of my F skills, whenever I do underwater combat, there are no utility skills for any of the other ones.
Why is this?
Just seems odd too that we can only use one underwater weapon as well.
I did a search on the wiki and it appears to be in red type. Not sure why unless that denotes something missing.
In a discussion someone said that they have to finish the Living Story 2 before they can unlock all of the HoT things for their characters.
Now I have one character I’ve taken through the entire Living Story and finished it before HoT launched. Does that mean that my other characters and my new revenant have to complete the Living Story 2 in order to unlock parts of HoT ??
I did a search but could not find anything definitive on this question.
I really do not want to repeat stories I have already completed on my main. Its just not fun to redo things. If the story was different for each profession, that would be different.
It appears that ascended gear will be the wave for the raids. I have a slew of recipes for ascended stuff in my bank. I decided to wait to see what stats would work best before using any of them.
At present my exotic gear is working just fine, but I will start stockpiling mats for the ascended stuff now.
I think waiting is going to be the best option for the decision making on the needs for Druid gear.
Druid Celestial Avatar form I found to be rather a short duration. So I started looking at the skills offered in it and found that the most useful would be #3 because it heals for 2,948 with a range of 1,200 and a radius of 360.
I have to actually work with the other skills in different scenarios to see how effective they can be, but I feel hamstrung with the short duration of this form option.
I dunno dude, have you taken a walk through Maguuma? Monsters hit like freaking MAC trucks. I see players go down frequently just fighting veterans. I think healing is going to have a place in this expansion if not immediately. Gotta think long-term here.
I traited into Druid and use the Druid as my third line. I carry a staff in my pack so I can switch it with my axe/wh at a moment’s notice. I did that last night when I found myself gliding into a big boss fight up in the canopy. So what I did was start with LB, swapped to staff (be sure you are not in the middle of the swarm), and strafed around using my healing skills to help the players in the middle of the battle.
Sorta wish I had a third weapon slot so I could use my axe/wh in mid-range for damage but LB did well enough to help the damage out. However, I did notice staff skills #1 and #2 were decent range damage while offering some heals to my allies.
Dulfy has a decent overview on her webpage for this. I had to write it down on a sticky note so I could refer to it when I needed a reminder of what it did. At least until I learned what they did by using them.

I am finding that Bristleback and Smokescale are both better suited to this new HoT zone. The Fire Wyrven not so much. He seems to be a bit late to the party most of the time. I found that if he is not directly on top of his prey when you have him do his fire spray, it is ineffective at causing much damage.
Seems to work pretty well if you get swarmed by those pocket raptors and you hit that skill…he just sprays fire all around you which cooks those little dudes to toast.
And who on earth decided to call them pocket raptors? Silly name…I think something along the lines of swarm raptors would have been more appropriate.
Pointing out obvious flaws in a build, then offering sustained and thoughtful feedback on them with solutions to the problems they pose, would actually be a great way of presenting your ideas.
I’ve noticed most devs, if provided that type of feedback, usually will investigate it and see what’s going on that causes the problems and many do fix them. Maybe not quite the way we want but improve on what we were concerned about.
I went ahead and made a thread with how I think it should work, and I formatted it in a way that is more likely to get the dev’s to respond and get the non ranger communities support. (Everyone loves a ranger nerf) https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Ranger-Pets-Need-a-Nerf/first#post5663629
Sadly a lot of rangers didn’t bother to actually read the thread before responding lol.
Too many folks don’t get “reverse psychology” concept. It is a difficult talent to communicate to people who are used to you saying it like you see it and many miss the subtle points even in sarcasm.
My children for instance were extremely out going and tended to push the envelope as they developed their life skills. Whenever I saw them heading in a direction I thought might be harmful, I used that reverse psychology in conversations with them, not telling them what to do or how…but being careful how you word things, got them thinking.
I would see them stop in their tracks to absorb what I said, and discovered that was a powerful way to help them navigate critical thinking at such young ages. They would never have understood the concept had I tried to explain it to them, but “making an observation” about “wow, I bet the wall would hurt if you hit it with your head”…wall doesn’t move but you would bounce to the ground and end up with a booboo on your face.
That they understood.

I am still finding pet pathing to be off a bit. I like to control some of what my pet does, but with the fire wyrven, you have to make sure the silly thing is directly on top of his prey to before having him do his fire breathing act…then in most cases, the prey is already dead when it finally kicks in.
So they have some work to do with how the pet skills activate. Seems to be a disconnect between hitting the skill button and when the pet actually uses that skill.
I have 3 of the 5 pets that are available so far. Our guild group just ran through a couple of times to help our rangers obtain at least these three, and at the same time open up some of the map, get waypoints and some skill points. 5 rangers using LB arrow barrage was hilarious to watch.
We also have a mix of weapon swaps …I like the LB, axe/wh (for speed) or axe/torch for some decent fire damage. Not a fan of putting my ranger in melee range on some of the mobs we ran into.
My gear is Knight’s Sneakthief of the Ranger with Superior Runes of the Ranger all around. Don’t have but a few accessories that are ascended, most everything is still exotic.
I have map completion but only have 485 waypoints out of the total 846 that the wiki says there should be.
I’ve been back to every zone I have done and cannot find any missing on any map. Did one get added after my map completion that is not showing on the maps ???
This is buggy if I am supposed to have all, but can’t find the missing one anywhere.
Any suggestions?
Disconnected from server (lost connection issue) while getting ready to craft….
What on earth is going on Anet?
you need to Git Gud thats it, in curse shore also you can run past mobs,if you are dying and have very low skill level is not Anet problem
guess son got use to the face roll content in old days, learn to CC enemies and still having problems then get a new gear set with toughness. slot CC abilities instead of all damge Utility skills, learn to adapt.
I am pretty sure you haven even dared to go to the depths of the jungle lol, you will never come back
instead of whining go play and get improved.
may pocket raptors consume you soul into the endless abyss whiner
“Git Gud”……….it appears you might be using a language translation program because your posting is a bit disjointed.
But I get your drift that you consider my simple commentary to be whining.
Uhh.. anyone who can’t do the HOT content could maybe download a game where you find cats in the jungle and they purr, and u can walk around and pet them and sing… yah.
I am not finding the HoT content all that difficult as long as you run with friends or manage to group up when the events start. I learned a long time ago that, as much as I like to solo and explore, most areas that have dynamic events or zone bosses, are best done in the company of others.
So far, I’ve been doing much better than I was when I started out. But at least tonight I was able to run around the HoT maps with some guild mates…made it much more reasonable even if we did have some problems with vets and a champ we ran across.
But I was commenting because a lot of my guild mates are very casual players. Some of them really prefer to solo most of the time. However, we have been discussing pulling together some guild runs for those who want to do the new zone but are hamstrung because of the time they have available to play in the game and finding folks to help with some of the events they need for skill points and such.
You are correct of course, but since I plan to run my Druid for the raids, I was looking for healing type stuff with vit and maybe something else? Not quite sure but thought I would at least ask for ideas.
I am extremely happy with today. I finally was able to get all my waypoints in the new HoT area, pick up some Hero points and PoIs, 3 out of the 5 pets plus an accessory (Saurian roar) and Druid’s Shoulderguards.
Has anyone found a good upgrade item for the Druid’s stuff yet? I would be interested in what others have found to be useful for their Ranger builds. I also have opened and trained all my Druid skills finally.
Currently I am using Knight’s Sneakthief of the Ranger gear with superior Rune of the Ranger plus my longbow and axe/warhorn weapons.
I’ve managed to get the following attribute levels:
Crit Dmge = 193.8%
Crit Chance = 60.76
Power = 2,039
Toughness = 1.860
Vitality = 1,045
Precision = 2,045
Ferocity = 508
w/Armor @ 2,924 and Health @ 16,372
I still have a long way to go to earn my masteries and get more skill points but I am happy with my start.
Those HoT maps are big. There is plenty of room to accommodate players of all skill levels. Maybe Anet need to learn from GW1 and have a hard mode version of each map for those who are “in it to win it” rather than ramping up the difficulty in the normal maps.
Put simply: some players don’t play for the challenge.
I did not play GW1, but I think this is a great idea. Reminds me of dungeons and raids that can be selected on Tour, Regular or Hard Mode from other games.

Disconnect issues seem to be a problem since the last update. I tried for several hours last night after getting DC’d in WvW, so the HoT area was not exclusive to the disconnect problems….as it appeared to be game-wide.
But, I’ve been reading about the issue for Ranger pets being gated behind a massive event and I am not happy. My main is a Ranger and I really do not see why we have been singled out to have to obtain build-related pets this way. After all, none of the other professions have to do this for theirs….so why do Rangers?
Only one tiny complaint.
……Jumps off from high spot in Tyria. Hits Glide…..
Other than that, it’s great.
I had to laugh when I read this….we ran WvW last night in a guild run and you can just imagine how many folks did this off keep walls and steep ravines. I was busy rezzing my guild mates when I was able to (if I did not die because I fell off the things).

I repaired my client/launcher and was able to get back into the game fairly quickly and easily. But…when I ported to one of the borderlands in WvW….screen just stayed on loading and never moved.
So they really have a problem.

It appears they are having server issues. I actually found this wiki page that might provide some information.
I think it shouldn’t be locked behind a 2 hour event chain that might or might not succeed.
But that’s just me.
I agree with this….pets that are part of a build should NOT be locked behind an event gate that many other players participate in but don’t need the pet unlocked because they don’t use one.
Lame setup.
Well, just experienced how annoying this gating is first hand. Doing the meta events to try and get E Wyvern and tiger only to realise just before the time ran out that my instance wasn’t trying to finish it they were just farming the exp. So it was a colossal waste of time. So gg, we’ve got to rely on people who couldn’t care less to actually do the event rather than farming it for the experience.
And that, in a nutshell, is why these pets need to be moved to more accessible locations.
This is totally insane. Ranger builds include the use of pets…none of the other characters I play have pets and don’t have to jump through hoops to just get them in order to actually use their abilities.
Note to Anet: You really need to revisit this issue. As a ranger, I am stuck not having any of the new pets found in the jungle because of major event gating?
I don’t have a problem having to search for them, but once found they should be able to be tamed without having to go through the pain and agony of major events that don’t affect other players needing a pet for their build.
Not having an issue now since there are people in the maps. But a few weeks from now? Yeah, this map is gonna feel impossible when the numbers drop significantly.
Now this is a real concern. I don’t like rushing through areas and that is basically what I ended up doing this evening just to get the waypoints and open up the map some.
However, if the zones empty out, I fear this zone may end up being a nightmare to just traverse even using waypoints and gliding.
I am definitely book marking this page. I am seeing a lot of really good information here. And yes, I am a casual player but I did not think I was whining, just expressing my opinion.
However, I like the difficulty and I am sure I will get better at handling this, but I was mostly irritated over the fact that it felt like I had just killed that silly pocket raptor when he morphed into another one right before my eyes.
Consider getting a https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Juvenile_Krytan_Drakehound
Bear is honestly not the best choice in these cases.
Good idea…I think I already have him in my stable. I’ll have to check.
But I was hoping to come across some of the new pets in this zone. Really wanted a dragon…but we’ll see what is there.
All good points and from different perspectives…I like that. I am not against difficulty. I just think being mired is not fun.
But you all have a point. Considering this was my initial foray into the new zone, I shall certainly review my gear and setup. Hopefully, my bear will reconsider his resignation in my service….lol
I have come to the conclusion that the new HoT zones are worse than how Cursed Shore used to be with the mob density and horrific respawns of undead.
I ran through the new map (well more like I stumbled), died a few times and managed to get some way points and earn points towards my masteries. No matter which path I took, I ran into so many mobs it was difficult to even consider exploring anything that looked remotely interesting.
I actually got a chance to try out gliding…died a few times when I slammed into the side of a rock wall and when I lost the wind in my glider without being able to catch an updraft.
The new zone is so terribly overrun with mobs that it is not fun exploring. I hope Anet tones down the density and the immediate respawns so we can at least explore without getting downed every few feet.
I did this on my Ranger and used my war horn in order to keep speed up. I ended up letting my bear run blockage when I needed a quick get away and was fortunate enough to have a guildie helping me past the worst of the “mobjambs.”
I was a wreck when we finally stopped at the last waypoint (lower left corner of the middle map). I am sure my bear will be presenting me with his resignation tomorrow for the suicides he endured on my behalf.
I never did make it anywhere else.
I am going to drop a question in here that I have not been able to get an answer to just researching.
I ran my new revenant through a lot of the old world map to open up way points and along the way I hit all the skill points I came across. Will those skill points count towards my new Hero point needs? Or am I only able to obtain the necessary Hero points in the new HoT area for unlocking my elite skills and masteries?
I have held off getting ascended gear for some time. I just never saw the need for such expense when my exotics worked just fine. From what I can tell, it still is decent as long as you are aware of your surroundings and watch where you run.
I like the fact that I can sneak by things (I’ve practiced this on my Ranger) with great success. Then I use speed to run out of their tether range to my objective. Granted, its not the most elegant solution, but I play rather more strategically and rarely just run through things without thinking of other options first.
But my Ranger is in full Knight’s Sneakthief gear of the Ranger with 6-runes of the Ranger and so far so good. Mixture of Pwr/Prec/Toughness & Ferocity seems to be working quite well at this point.
I plan on adding Celestial jewelry as I can afford it to round out my stats.

Hero points are going to be my bane. I normally like to take my time to learn a new spec or set of skills, but if half a loaf is all I get? How am I going to do that if I need a group just to get 10 hero points at a time when I need 200+?
Granted I belong to a large guild but I hate to keep pestering folks for help when they have already gone past where I am and moved on to getting ready for the Guild Hall run. I can’t even compete with them on that since I am nowhere near capable with half a loaf of skills or masteries.
Gliding? Bouncing? I am the original clutz…every time I try to jump I fall on my face. I’ve got 1/2 of the gliding skill learned…but, using it lands me on the bottom of the gorge dead….could not find any updrafts to even help myself with this new skill.
I feel totally left out on this because of the horrible gating (time and difficulties not withstanding).
It appears to be down at the moment. Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Be patient, this happens every now and then.
Either maintenance, server crash, excessive load, or something similar. They’ll fix it soon enough.
Yes, I came to the same conclusion, but I was just surprised. I can always find something else to do before going back to completing my crafting.
….like getting waypoints for my revenant…entire world map except where I started, is completely covered with “Fog of War” …..yahoo….!!!
Minstrel's Orichalcum Imbued Inscription
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: lynspottery.6529
From my experience leveling my armorsmithing last night (into early this am), I started researching what I could do to get to 500. It appears the higher end inscriptions that I wanted or needed, were gated behind certain materials being timed.
For instance, the crystalline ore which we have to upgrade 5 = 1 refined crystalline, are needed to create one of the inscriptions. But you need 5 of these refined ones and you can only obtain 1 per day per account.
So in order to do one piece of gear w/inscription, I will need to refine for 5 days before I can make it.
Seems a lot of the other high end materials are gated similarly so I really was unable to make one pc last night given all my hours of crafting. So disappointed to see this.
So it appears I will be depending on karma 80 gear for my revenant until I can actually replace it with the higher end pieces. Oh, and they are not the ascended, they are only exotic.
I understand the gate for the ascended, but why for just the exotic? This is extremely disappointing.
I have been receiving error code 502 when I try to access the wiki page this morning. I was on it all night last night and early this morning, but as of now, it is inaccessible.
Does anyone know what’s happening?
502 – Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.
There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.
I have 6 chests of exotic equipment that I just started to open when I noticed that all the sets that are offered are for all the other professions, but Revenant is missing.
Considering my Revenant uses heavy gear, is it safe to assume the warrior or guardian gear choices would be able to be used by my revenant?
The game is still downloading, however it is playable. When I login and try to create a revenant, there is a sign on the icon “Update to guild wars 2 heart of thorns in order to play this class” or sth. like that. I’ve pre-purchased the game and I do not know why I’m getting this. Perhaps I have to wait for the whole game to finish ?
I also experienced this exact same thing. But, when I logged out to restart the game, I ended up having to restart the download again. But once it completed the Revenant choice was available.
So apparently you need the game to completely download before it shows up.
But it certainly was unexpected to see the download start all over again once I passed the “playable” green line before logging out to come to the forums to find out what was happening.
I don’t recall having a download start all over if you logged out when opening the launcher to see where the download timer was at….could not see the download timer from inside the game.
But still I would like to know if there is any way something like this can be fixed if it happens in the future.
You can’t do so in-game. You could try contacting support directly and asking for a refund for the second recipe. https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new
I actually was writing my posting at the time RoseofGilead posted that response as it was not evident before I hit my “post” button…so I did mark that information down
Fixed my dilemma…discovered my Artificer needed this recipe so I was able to give it to her. Not a waste after all. But thanks for the responses.
But still I would like to know if there is any way something like this can be fixed if it happens in the future.
I went to the Drytop area to pick up a recipe, but it appears when I purchased it, I ended up with two instead of just the one I wanted.
How on earth can you return the second one that you did not expect to see purchased?
I really would appreciate help in returning this since I can’t use two of them and the vendor does not seem to have a way for me to return the extra.
Doesn’t seem to be a way to report this on the bug report…not sure how I ended up with two but I did.
I did my Tangled Path story tonight and during the Labrynth portion the mini map was totally useless. I used to be able to see the labrynth pathways when we did the zone event that opened this area up for us.
But tonight that very same labrynth was a total muddy circle mess instead of a clear map showing all the pathways.
Is this intended? Or is it a bug?
