Okay I though of something new.
This is not official yet, I want you opinions on the build before get any equipment.
So this compared to my first one is still more damage focus, but I forget some of the damage and get more support, through traits (more 10% boon duration and more area of staff skills) and healing (I duplicated healing power).
So here’s the combination: http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/elementalist/?1.0|6.1c.h4|0.0.0.0.0.0|1c.7c.1c.7c.1c.7c.1c.7c.1c.7c.1c.7c|2u.0.1k.68.1k.68.1k.68.1k.68.1c.9c|a6.a3.0.u39b.k58|39.7|1m.1v.1u.23.29|e
What do you think?
That’s the best I could think of.
If you know how to play with combo fields, you will have perma fury, swiftness, 10+ stacks of might and nearly all the time regen.
For greater damage you can drop one rune of each for 2 runes of divinity and have 2nd staff for stacking sigil of bloodlust.
Thanks for the answer but that doesn’t have anythign of my build in it, and I like it how it is, I just think is can be better and I wanted advice how to do it better.
Danicco, I liked some of your suggestions, thanks
the only think I don’t like it Divinity Runes because they are expensive as fk….
Since most of my damage is Critical damage, most of the damage comes from the fire attunement, I switch often do get boons and some support but as soon I get back to damage I go back to Fire. Should I take out my 10 points in Air and Pput them into fire and get Pyromancer’s Puissance or just leave it as it is right now?
Elusive Power does not really add 10%, it will probably be more like 3-4 % or so. With permanent vigor, you get endurance so quickly and dodging on cooldown is a net DPS loss if you don’t need to dodge for survival. Furthermore, 7.5 % for EM is crap. If you count 3 stacks of might, which sounds realistic to me, it will rather be 2-3 %, depending on the presence of other might sources.
€: Wait, it seems that you are confounding Empower (the staff skill) and Empowering Might (the trait).
It was, sorry about the confusion, but I don’t use the staff all that much and though that was the name
Still isn’t it good? I like Danicco build but only 300 healing power doesn’t seem enough for what I’ve reading here
Thanks for your ideas, I’m interested in the build you posted Danicco, I might try it out
During this evening, while helping my dad with work I was thinking “What about might, it incrises my damage and I can play support with it with the staff and Save Yourselves”, so when I got back I though of a build around it and came with this:
What do you think? I think it can work. The way I was thinking of using it is, I usually run around with the staff and before fighting I try to use Empowering Might, since I have might duration and boon duration, plus I get more 3 stacks for 20 seconds on switch I get 18 stacks of might before the fight, 19 if I pop up Save Yourselves and with the hit I might get that even further. The good about it I most of that might will not be only given to me but also for everyone around me.
With that build I also get a good defence and a decente healing power.
What do you think about it? I feel that maybe be this that I was looking for
It’s a bit off-topic but I’ll put it here anyway just not to start another topic abour the build
So I want to be more of a “tank” now and not so much about support so I though of this:
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/guardian/?3.0|1.1n.h2|2.1n.h2|1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x|1c.64.1c.64.1c.64.1c.64.1c.64.3u.e16|0.0.u65b.u29b.a2|0.0|v.16.13.19.1i|e
Sigil’s Idk which would be better for a “tank” so I just puted Sigil of the Force since they fit almost anytime.
Do you think in a ZvZ this will fit? At PvE I’m almost sure that it will, but in PvE most of the builds do so, that’s not the problem. I give up a lot of support for more sustain.
In the trait’s I’m still not sure If I should have 30 in Valor, or just have 20 in Valor and 20 in Virtues and have Absolute Resolution (but if I put this one I’ll have to change either the Runes or the last trait of Honor otherwise I’ll have a lot of focus in condition removal, which in WvW in ZvZ doesn’t matter so much) or Indomitable Courage.
Sugestions?
Well i’m not to convinced about hammer, what I really wanted is GS, nit that I don’t like hammers, but I just love swords
I forgot about that but in WvW I’ll play in Zerg, then I’ve I want a change I’ll look for it but for now it’s Zerg
Hi guys
So I started upan Warrior recently, it’s for a future project with my guild and for long time that I want to have one so I decided this was a good time to do it. The thing is most Warrior’s go with the setup of full Zerker’s and High Damage (really high) but I don’t like that style of playing Warrior all that much, it’s useful in PvE but for WvW not so much and I do a lot of WvW. So i’ve been serching and found 2 build on Youtube that really got my attention
First one is AcidSnake87 Stand Tall build, here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFfI1riwJs8
And the second one is Dontain Heavy Arms build, here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv2ux0GpejM
For those who doesn’t want to see the all videos here is link with the build’s
Note: It’s not exactly 100% like it’s in the video but if I would go with this build right now that would problably be my setup
Note: Again this is a bit diferent, thiis is what I would use if I got the build today
So after these two build, which would you recomend for PvE and WvW? Is any of these two good for that propose? Do you recomend other setup’s?
From these two I think I would like more the Heavy Arms build but I really need to try both to know.
Hope you can help
Okay new question
Most of AH build focus more on Hammer. I like the Hammer but I also really like the GS
Any sugestion of how I can build my Guardian with a build similar to AH but built around the GS
Hi everyone
Well Elementalist is one of my favorite classes for WvW and PvE, sPvP not so much.
So today I’ll present you my build. I’ve though of this build my self and Idk if there some similar build or not. So here is it:
Now a quick explanation about how it works. First of I didn’t want a full glass cannon Staff Elementalist because I simply don’t like it. This build doesn’t makes me a concrete wall but sure imporves my survivability since I took out some damage to add HP and a bit of thoughness, as well as some condition removel since everytime I go into Water I get one Confition removed, I can remove mutiple ones with the #5 of the Water attunement and I remove one everytime I use a Cantrip. Using Cantrips in WvW also really improves my survivability since when my Zerg is whipe out I have a really quick escape with Mist Form and Lightning Flash.
What I really wanted to know is if the Sigil of Bloodlust goes well on my build and wich are the best foods for me since I want to improve my damage now seeing that I already have enough invested into survivability.
PS: Sorry some english mistakes
mP,
AH can be done well with everything from Soldiers to Zerker, just depends on your play style. Also, Hammer is great with AH, the Protection boon it drops give a ton of survivability. There is a sticky on this forum with AH Hammer, give it a read.
I’d suggest doing something like this to start and move to more offensive gear as you get comfortable. Hammer is slow so you’ll be in the thick of things but once protection goes down you’re good. The rune setup on the armor coupled with Writ of Presistance trait will give you full time protection if you can keep hitting stuff and hanging out in the symbol (great in PvE). Try to stay with the zerg, more people around you the better AH works. Staff 4+AH gives a massive heal to you and Staff is just plain useful in WvW. Don’t forget your consumables!
This trait layout can be adjusted quite a bit for whatever you’re running. I started with a similar setup and moved to full Zerker gear with a 10/30/0/30/0 build that does good damage and I’m quite happy with.
GL out there,
Blood~
P.S.
Zerk = Beserker’s stat’s on gear, Power/Precision/Crit.
Zerg = large group of people swarming over stuff.
Really liked how that build looks, I might try it out. Thanks
Well Hammer is one of the best Guardian Weapons IMO but I just love how swords look, but even that I try to use GS as much as possible with my current build, waht really shines is the Hammer and not the GS. I should make a Warrior if I want to use GS with full power and not a Guardian.
Anyway, thanks everyone for your help and your answers
Knights Gear is a really strong alternative to Soldiers in WvW, because you have nice defense and compared to full Soldiers you can actually kill someone^^ I don’t recommend full Zerker for WvW but adding some zerker parts to your gear to optimize your stats is fine.
Personally I don’t like Healing Power. It’s just to much of a sacrifice of other stats to get it. To be honest If you want to be supportive Healing Power is fine, but I prefer a more offensive spec with good 1v1 capability. Knight’s with some vitality and partially Zerk Gear works fine for me.
I use Soldeir armor and Cleric jewelry and Cleric Weapons
My Healing power is near 1000. Well with this I might try Knight armor with some Valkyries to add some Vit and Crit damage since I allready have 30% of that
I use ascended zerker jewelry with PVT armor and a zerker GS/pvt staff with the standard AH build, well rounded stats and pretty effective in wvw.
Tried zerker gear before but you go down to quick if you try to melee, it is however also an option if you do not run with the melee train and go with scepter/focus and staff and act as a ranged profession. Just make sure to walk out of red stuff. Downside is that people tend to move and scepter has a hard time hitting anything so it hurts your dps.
Scepter is too slow for me, I don’t use it and if I ever will, it will be on gates problably
So maybe I didn’t undertand what is an AH build. In a AH build you use Shout’s, with this variation is better to use Meditation skills, and trait them to heal me when I use them?
Hi
The tittle pretty much says it all, are traps, on a Thief, useless?I’ve never seen a Thief using them in PvE or WvW, which are the areas that I focus more, I don’t care much for sPvP, even thought recently I’ve been doing it a bit more to get the laurel, since I don’t want to do the daily.
Anyway, if they are not useless in PvE or WvW, what weapon sets do yu recomend to play with traps? Are traps better to play defencive, or I can play an offencive style with them too?
Hi everyone
Well I’ve a lvl 80 Guardian for quite a while, and I enjoy the class, but recently I don’t feel good playing it, I think is it because of my build, since I’ve allways used the same since I reached lvl 80. It’s similar to an AH build but with focus on Symbols (one friend helped my with getting the build, and at the time I loved it), I go with 0 – 0 – 30 – 20 – 20.
Because of that I decided to swith build, but sinc I only started to came to the forum, does today a weak, I’ve seen that I problably don’t know much about my class at all, I only figured out today what AH means.
Anyway, I’ve seen here some topics talking about AH builds with Zerg or Knight gear, but I wondered why? Is that only for PvE, or WvW too? How it goes for WvW if, with AH build with all Zerg or Knight gear you only have 300 healing power, which I think is low for a Guardian.
That all I wanted to know
Sorry some english mistakes, I’m very tired from worked to think properly :$
Well thanks to everyone that answered my question, I’ll problably run with S/P and GS for that moment when range is useful or S/F. Still my main weapon will be Sword
If you wnat to answer this one is fine but, for the looks, what do you think is better. Human, Sylvari or Asura?
Oh and am I crazy if I delete on of my lvl 80 characters? I’m tired of them and because of them I almost leaved the game, and I want to use the name of one of my lvl 80 (I have 2) on my Mesmer
Sword is an amazing main weapon. I switch out GS( thank you bugs) and staff, but always have the sword/something slotted.
It is absolutely an offensive weapon. I prefer Sword/Focus for PVE because reflect just can’t be beaten for damage. That would be my main support combination.
I was thinking on using S/F as main and them GS as secondary, just for when I need something ranged. In WvW can that work well. Are these weapons Condition damage or Critical damage based?
Hi
Okay I’ll start to tell you that I’ve never, ever played a Mesmer before, but as I want something new, at this point of the game (I play since launch) there isn’t anything new for me beside this class.
I want to play my Mesmer with 1H Sword as main, but as I’ve never played Mesmer I would like to know if playing with 1H Sword, I’m playing a Damage role, or a Defencive role, etc etc… and which is the best secondary weapon for Damage (Pistol, Sword, Torch or Focus) and the best for Support
Why can’t you “main” shortbow?
What one Thief of my guild said to me, is that Thief can’t main Shortbow because they can’t win 1vs1 using shortbow, because Rangers or other ranged classes are more powerfull at range than the Shortbow
Yes, as long as you don’t fight necromancers, guardians, or anything with retaliation. Or Zergs.
Well that restric a lot what i can do with it
Gosh I can’t I just main shortbow? bah every class should be able to main the weapons they have at disposal
All I see is D/D here, D/D there, I like the shortbow, but beside zerg and PvE people say that is useless
I don’t like the Ranger as much as the Thief to go and make one for just the sake of using a bow
Hi
Is it possible to have a good Sword and Pistol setup in WvW?
I’ve trying thief for a bit now, and my favorite weapon is still the shortbow, but that one I already know I can’t do it my main weapon, but I was looking for other options beside D/D, legit options
And even a range thief with P/P is it possible too? I’m new with the class and pretty much all the thief’s I see use D/D and shortbow…
Hi everyone
So, direct to the point, whta are the main roles with a staff while playing it in a Mesmer? For what I’ve seen so far it’s pretty much condition damage based but I have also reade that is the most defencive weapon Mesmer’s have and I kinda like defencive roles.
(I play with a Guardian bunker, and a staff Elementalist that is hybrid between damage and defense)
Also, I don’t really like seeing casters with swords, so is it possible to have good WvW/PvE builds with the Staff + Scepter/Focus or Torch?
Gotta make it to the top I need answers please
Rangers can mainhand one handed swords very well, it’s one of their better DPS options, and rangers are actually pretty darn tanky.
HOWEVER going by what you say, I think you may have overlooked mesmers.
You like casters like ele, but you like martial weapons and swords but prefer a faster playstyle than guardian and you like playing evasively. Sounds to me like Mesmer fits the bill:
- Fast playstyle with lots of magical combos and buffs/debuffs
- Favour fighting in close quarters
- Uses martial weapons despite being a caster (ie. swords)
- Huge array of evasion options and handful of stealths
- Relatively robust, with medium-hitpoint scaling.
Hum.. Mesmer ir really the class that I allways had less interest, but I can try it out
As a Thief between swords and dagger i problably still prefer D/D, Idk yet but the second skill of the sword is a bit meh, nice to get to the enemy faster but then you have to get ack to your point, do evade some atacks is quite good but sometimes I kill the guys before that tehn have to go back.

I’m playing Thief now, it’s fun but let’s se how long it will be fun. Can Mesmers be a bit more tanky than Thief’s?
This is not just another topic asking which class is the best for certain stuff. NO this is another thing.
I play this game since lauch and since lauch I strogle with this, I can’t play one class without want to play with other. I have 2 lvl 80, one Elementalist and one Guardian, I lie both but everytime just feels like those aren’t the right ones for me. Elementalist because, I like casters, but like more swords than spells, and some in this game look pretty kitten awesome. Guardian because I like both 2h and 1h swords but the 1h sword in the Guardian just sucks, and I would like to try a faster style to play and 2h swords are a bit slow. Right now I’m trying a Thief but can I get a Good thief with Sword/Dagger + Shortbow without stealth? The Thief feels like the fastest class in combat with a survilval based one evasion and stealth, but I would prefer just evasion.
Warriors use 1h swords too, and I’ve seen some build based one it but since I already have an soldier type class I just feel lazy leveling another one.
Can Rangers main 1h sword? Idk anything about Ranger because I allways see people complain that they are the weakest class in the game so not much curiosity on this one.
Can you guys help me?
I want this class
thanks for that
but if i plan to main D/D or shortbow is that build a good build?
Most tanky-esqe thieves will have 30 in SA and have plenty of ways to stealth (Hide in Shadows, CnD [x/D], Blinding Powder, Shadow Refuge) to remove conditions, heal, and gain might. They’ll also often have at least 15 in Acrobatics to gain some Endurance on dodge, allowing a thief 3 dodge rolls in the span of 2. Even further, some thieves will have 15 in Trickery to get the gain 3 Initiative on Steal & Increase of Initiative Pool. This leaves 10 points that you can pretty much put wherever you want and gear your thief appropriately.
I liked this
and what do you recomend for gear? knight and berserker? (knight for a bit of defence)
Personally, I wouldn’t go Berserker. You can go Knight’s & Valkyrie or Carrion & Rabid. Most who go for this kind of tanky build will generally be just a Condition Thief with Caltrops and Poison fields.
Understand that a “tanky” thief is one that doesn’t get hit, so Evasions, Stealth, and Dodge Rolls (like RoI and Withdraw), and Shadowsteps. So any build that gives you plenty of Evasions/Stealth/Rolls/Shadowsteps (Pick 2) will be sufficient as a thief. I threw out the above because it’s the easiest and most-well known type of “tank” thief.
for D/D which is better? Stealth? and for Shortbow? evasions? can i main the shortbow?
There are a lot of ways to make a semi-tanky Thief. My own build is a Venomous Aura AoE buffing spec that generates a bunch of free healing for everyone. When combined with the built-in evade of the Pistol Whip skill, various ways to heal when I crit, and using Knights gear, I’m pretty dang survivable. (Though I have an extreme fear of conditions in that build and have had to build in multiple ways to deal with them.)
If you’re curious to see more details, you can take a look at my linked build. Just be warned that it doesn’t play like a traditional Thief.
thanks
look really nice but i have a question about the runes, you don’t have any condition damage so why do you use lyssa runes instead of runes of the eagle that gives you crit damage and precisison?
(edited by mPascoal.4258)
well then ranger is out of my option for a new character
thanks for your help
First things first, PvP/PvE/WvW?
WvW and PvE

Hi
I did a similar topic about the Thief in the thief section, if you know something about thief please help
Okay I’m looking for a new character to play since I got bored with my two previous ones, my Elementalist and my Guardian. I thinking of Thief, but Ranger is also an option. The thing I know about ranger’s is that everyone complains about them being the weakest class of the game. Idk because I’ve never played one. About build the same as the Theif, everyone full damage.
Any advices? Any way to play beside full damage? Is it possible to play Crit build witha shortbow? Or it is better to stick with condition damage if I play with this weapon?
it doesn’t need to be bunker but at least not glass cannon
i play my ele with a staff and even that i kittenage i’m not a glass cannon, i can do a resonable damage and still have 1.5k thouness and 1.5k vitality
Hi
I play gw2 since lauch and my two main characters have been Elementalist and Guardian, but recently I’ve got bored of these 2 and I wnat something new. I was thinking about the Thief. The thing is everytime I ask about the Thief people always tell me strait up damage, full Berserk and stuff like that.
It’s not that I like damage, because I do but I never liked to play a Glass Cannon character so I’m here asking if there’s more ways to play with Thief without beign ful Berserker. Inicially I was thinking in a Shortbow Thief but then again only damage so now I oppen for more option.
Can you help me?
well I use Sword and torch in pvp and i must tell you, I do insane damage
the build i’ve made it was for gs sword/torch and it was thinking to use more the gs but I do so much damage with the torch that most of the times I forgot to switch, at least i did, i don’t play guardian for quite a while
