I for one an extremely hyped about new map/maps verticality. Now if they don’t screw this up by making it 3 flat floors with some simplisting “upjumping” and gliding then we’re in for something revolutionary. A-net has already shown potential for maps that are interesting in z-axis, especially with recent additions from living story. If they can truly make a multi tiered jungle where traveling from one “level” to another includes climbling steep obstacles using junle skills, some well placed jumping, maybe even using some situational mechanics like mount or wind gust taking you up, then we’re in for a treat. I expect a jungle – chaotic, erratic, living and breathing each step you take. Not some flat zone above, ton of empty space under it till we hit ground level, then again ton of nothing till we descend into roots.
However so far i have every reason to believe they will not screw this up and i’m keeping my fingers crossed and my money ready to toss it into my screen:)
If they turn the entire zone into a frustrating JP, then it would be a no go for me. I suck at JPs. Have done a few, but no where near all of them.
So, if this turns into an arcade-style, lightning reflexes kind of map, no thanks.

All I know is, I won’t buy anymore gems until this is released. In fact, I have even stopped making bolts of damask for my Ascended armor. No more refinement – will just collect mats and wait…and see. Nothing worse then spending all that time and effort grinding playing how I want to make ascended gear, only to find to find out that I should have used the mats for something else.
So, I don’t care how much the expansion costs (within reason). I’ll just save the $40 I would spend every couple of months or so. Then see.

Well…and this is all speculation…if “defending” is more important, one way to make it so, is to have all siege in a keep/tower/garri available regardless of who built it. For instance, if we get in and take SM that was fortified, it stays fortified. All cannons/mortars and any player-built siege INSIDE the walls now become usable by us. Making it VERY important to defend..and have people destroy siege once another server caps

Meh to unbalance… I’m from NSP and we’re not that bad.
I’m on NSP too, are right now we are ticking 75. IoJ is at 255, DB 365. I would assume IoJ’s numbers are up there because DBers are still having their nappies. Once they wake up, they will swarm all over us and them. Classy-like too…we had a bunch spamming taunt emotes – when we were ticking +30 or something. Classy, classy bunch.
Alt-F4 – they probably closed the game.
The only time I was ever there was to get the JP. Have never been there since.
I’m not sure, but twice in the past day I have gone down with an “instakill”. Looking at my combat log, I see that whatever hit me did so at much less than the health I had remaining. For instance, I’m at 14k, something hits me, I go down. Looking at the combat log, I see a crit hit for 5k, and then nothing but me trying to heal in the downed state until I get spiked.
While making Mawdrey isn’t quick, I’d say it’s still worthwhile to pursue. Not just for the ability to consume Bloodstone Dust.
This is the sort of effort that’s going to be required for the upcoming Precursor “mastery” collection/scavenger hunt come Heart of Thorns. If anything, Mawdrey is going to be quicker and easier to get than whatever lies ahead for people wanting to get a precursor. So getting some practice with Mawdrey, and other similar time-intensive collections like the Luminescent set, is going to prepare you for what is to come.
Hopefully the drops required for precursors won’t be like what you need for Mawdrey. I tried and gave up on it.
So, it isn’t bad that a first level Trait can only be unlocked if you venture to an event 26 levels above yours?
Hm?
Which one might that be?Heres one, i found within a few seconds; Level 36 gives you the second trait point. But Illusionary Defense, a Mesmer adept tier 1 trait, requires you to defeat Victurus and his Branded army in Iron Marches; that is a level 58 group event, in a zone designed for 50s to 60s.
The only effect of the change to the trait system has been to kitten players builds.
Lol. You wrote this just as I was writing mine!
I encountered this on my Thief. I unlocked Adept Trait points at level 30 and I noticed that to unlock Shadow’s Embrace (IV) under Shadow Arts (which is the 3rd Trait line) I would need to do the event “Defeat Victurus and his Branded army” – which is at level 56 or so.
That was the one I noticed. Seemed odd and…well…badly designed.
So, it isn’t bad that a first level Trait can only be unlocked if you venture to an event 26 levels above yours?
I’m 53. I have people in my guild who are over 60. How old I’ll be depends on my health. My vision. My ability to use the keyboard.
These are all factors.
The age of the average gamer is over 30 now anyway.
Yeah, because the under 30 crowd are buying “phablets” and “tablets” more and more. Thus playing casual “games” (I hate calling crap like Candy Crush or Farmville “games”).
:)
What happens if someone doesn’t buy the expansion? I would assume that the new zone is not available, of course. But what about WvW? If I don’t have the expansion, what happens if I enter WvW? Will I see the new zone and any other changes to WvW in general?
*Revenant
And I hope we do get a change to the starter missions for this new class. Kind of like Death Knights in WoW did.
I interpreted it as being only available in Heart of Maguma (otherwise I imagine it would invalidate a lot of jumping puzzles). But yes, Hang Glider mastery skills were mentioned as used to access various areas in the new map(s)
Not sure. Would have to re-watch – but each time he mentioned “Mastery” Colin also said things like “Master abilities for use in Maguuma…” – which I inferred meant all these Mastery abilities were usable only in the new zone.
Confirmed, new map for WvW, Borderland rotation, core changes to WvW, including defense becoming more important.
I am hoping they somehow provide a handicap for vastly outnumbered servers. Otherwise, a new map is just something else we don’t have the numbers to cover.

Thank you for posting this! I was actually waiting on the GW2 channel.
Remember…this is an “announcement”. If it is an expansion, it likely won’t be released for months.
I would LOVE it if we could fight on the side of the dragons. That would be epic. An in game choice, and it would be like PvP in PvE.
Probably not doable, but if we are wishing…
I would especially like to lead a horde of Sylvari to wipe out as many Asurans as possible…experiment on us, will you?!?
LOL, Anet’s lack of any sort of decent testing strikes again.
That doesn’t make any sense in the least. They didn’t add anything that needed to be tested. So please explain what they could have tested to prevent a problem?
Ding ding ding. Yet another contrarian post.
Trust me everyone, you will never convince this one that anything is wrong. Ever.
Broken? Tier 2 matchups in which 2 of the servers have no hope since the Green one vastly outnumbers them. Matchups decided, not by skill, but sheer numbers. NA servers that have a seemingly huge number of SEA players.
Unless all of this was by design, then bravo. Job well done.
One way to fix this is to not allow a player to join a server outside of their actual region. So, no EU players on NA, and vice versa.
What if they held a weekly WvWvW matchup, and 2 servers didn’t bother to show up.
You think then that Anet would get the idea that WvW is badly broken (I am assuming they have no idea since we have heard nothing from them in months).
Yeah. I am simply assuming that HoT is some sort of new legendary weapon that not only has variable stats, but a variable type (can be a staff or a GS or a hammer).
Anything else, and I will be pleasantly surprised.
And, if it has something to do with fixing the sorry state of WvW, I think I will have a heart attack.
This. This right here is why I don’t PvP.
Pretty much that.
This is a great thread, and a fantastic discussion with suggestions that merit further analysis. It’s sad, though, that the WvW forum hasn’t had any Anet presence in a while. How many people feel like the b’kitten child of GW2? Hands up.
I’m on NSP, and except for occasionally dipping my toe back into it, I have largely avoided WvW since two things happened: the repetition (IoJ vs either SoS or FA) – I mean, we’ve faced IoJ, what, 6 weeks in a row now? I don’t know exactly, too lazy to check) and the removal of white swords (I know, they’re back. But by then, I had gotten used to life without WvW).
This, I think, is the new reality of WvW. Sad, really. It was fun at one point.
That was incredible. Nice work. If you are up for it, how about an Ascended items tab that is shared amongst all level 80 characters. So, if I have a GS on my guardian, I don’t have to unequip it from him first. If I log into my warrior, I see everything in the ascended tab and can equip that same GS.
Everyone I know enjoys the seasons. As well, I see the population in WvW on my server, and those I compete against increase.
Care to actually explain how it is harmful? As of now, I am seeing little more then unreasonable, anecdotal claims, with no actual evidence to the claims themselves.
Again…and you’ve been asked this before…what server are you on? A large population one, I would assume. Players on small pop servers are NOT generally having much in the way of fun when they habitually get steamrolled by servers double their size.
They aren’t? You assume to speak for all players on small population servers?
What do you define as small population servers? Several months ago, me, my guild, and some friends transfered from the JQ in kitten a T3 server. You would have gotten an answer sooner had you simply PMed me, instead of assuming I owed you anything, and demand I answer you on a public thread.
None of which changes the fact that everyone I know seems to express enjoyment with the seasons. As well, I see the population in WvW on my server, and those I compete against increase.
When you make an assertion, you need to back it up. People need context. You don’t owe me, personally, anything at all. But you will note that most people that are saying they are seeing fewer people in WvW usually mention their server. It provides that context I mentioned. So when someone comes on and says “Everything is awesome”, then it would be nice to know if this is server-specific awesomeness or perhaps Tier-awesomeness.
In any event, you must be lucky, because the majority of people that seem to be on this forum claim to be seeing a decrease in the numbers of people in WvW on their servers. Myself included. So, kudos to you and your friends. Would love to see that kind of commitment on my server (NSP).
Oddly, you complained about “…unreasonable, anecdotal claims, with no actual evidence to the claims themselves”, but, like all of us on here, all these claims, yours included, are “anecdotal” with no “actual evidence”. How could it not be? It’s not like someone logs onto WvW and does roll call.
I am sure Anet could provide us with stats on the number of unique players on WvW monthly per server (including time spent in WvW, etc). But until then, everything has to be “anecdotal”.
This is the problem with RNG. There’s no way to tell if MF works at all. Not without a large sample size (say 1000 people farming with the same low MF% and another 1000 farming with a high MF%) – all farming the exact same nodes and meticulously recording what they got – then do a comparison. But since that will never happen, we will never be sure if MF is simply a red herring or if it, in fact, works.
We all know someone with a relatively low MF that got a precursor or some other awesome drop vs something with a high MF that has never had any drops like that. We all just put it down to the RNG and leave it at that.
Double what? ….
This won’t play out at all…
There hasn’t been an Anet presence in quite some time on the WvW sub-forum. I would be very surprised if they even read these threads, except to “infract” people genuinely frustrated with the state of WvW.
They appear to have no issue with in-game trolls, racists or hackers…but a minor insult (like: “You are some piece of work.”) will get your post deleted and an infraction notice.
To restore faith: answer in the thread that the person has been banned. Simple.

Exploit into citadel*
Not just the Star, less junk everywhere. Farming for Vials of Powerful blood. Killed 15 Snow Trolls – total take so far: 2 porous bones, 1 bone chip, and maybe 2S.
Yay.
well idk what the big deal is, I mean im in NSP and I enjoy playing vs DB and SoS cuz they are on a whole new lvl when it comes to numbers, it really push us to think of new strategy’s etc.. also t2 is not going to have 4 servers for long, one of them is doomed to fall eventually.
Also previous to facing DB/SoS, NSP was always dominating and it was getting kind of boring.
I agree. We did. Which, the weekend after reset, I would stop playing. I don’t like dominating as much as I like being dominated. Neither is fun.
What is the strategy you are learning, I might ask?
Oh man, and here I was about to send an email out to every player about the need to have your legendary “polished” before it becomes account bound…and how I was going to offer that polishing service for a nominal fee. Just send me your legendary, and I will polish it pronto and send it right back.
Darn. Thanks for warning them, Gaile. Yeesh
It does concern me that next week you guys will be facing us in FA. On a personal level, all I can say, if I see you guys trying to take something of ours, I sure won’t say a word to anyone. I HATE the idea my server will steam roll and farm you guys. Chances are, I won’t even play much at all that week. Maybe just roam solo and hope I run across a couple of you guys, feel free to gank my toon, dance on my dead corpse, and get a tiny bit of satisfaction.
Well, if we do, so be it
Face you, I mean. As for ganking – usually, in WvW, if I see a solo roamer (not a thief…I HATE thieves
), it’s usually farming or doing sentries – I just let them be. I even helped one take out the vet worm. We bowed, farmed the same Rich node, and went our separate ways. Then he whispered me about how to get to the JP. I showed him. See…sportsmanship.
Then again, I played real sports, back when my knee wasn’t made of pain, so perhaps I have a different attitude about these things.
Is it possible to ally with the other T3 server vs the tier 2 server?
if both T3 servers attack the T2 server, we barely make a dent in them. With white swords gone, and the community desertion that came along with that particular change, T3 servers are left with the players who dont actually give a crap about the PPT and just play for fights.
Yeah. Unfortunately, and I am loathe to admit it, I am one of the deserters. Ever since “no white swords”, I have been avoiding WvW like the plague (except for one of the dailies, usually, and a brief stint when we tried to take back some stuff in our BL last week).
Hate doing the Asura quests – they are such pretentious knobs. Half the time I want to swat one or more of them across the screen.
So you dont see what i am seeing.
Hackers sometimes destroy games and
so i dont like them because they hack accounts too.
no forum fail here sorry.
and getting banned isnt going to stop them
They are hackers.
So they need a fine like a speeding ticket.
Can’t be a fine in real life. Don’t ban them, embarrass them. Flag their characters with a cheater flag, and any legendaries, ascended, and exotic gear become junk. Knock their WvW level back to rank 0 (1?).
If they enter WvW after the penalty, have them do half their usual damage and only get half (rounded down) supply. Have these penalties run for a year.
If they get caught a second time, then ban.
So stop zerging the other servers’ BLs. Seriously, if you know it will be boring otherwise, concentrate on your own BL and EB only. I don’t bother even logging in if I know I am apt to get zerg-rolled if I even try to upgrade a keep even in my own BL.
And what you expect them to do when they have all their stuff and entire EBG? Sit idle waiting for your servers to show up? Besides, if they do that, they will lose glicko rating and won’t go back to T2… And I’m pretty sure SoS don’t want to be on T3.
Yes. Wait. People are more apt to show up if they log in and see they aren’t ticking +5 or even zero…and are outnumbered in every BL. Otherwise, they have to be prepared to be bored. Simple as that.
Part of the issue is the ratings based on scores. It should be like a real sport/competition – points for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. You can win, and get points, regardless of how big the win is.
But that would require a change and an acknowledgement from Anet that WvW is seriously broken. Not holding my breath.
Ezrael-I am sorry you have to go through this. A lot on SoS are not happy either. But there are lots willing to try to make some fun by setting up duels or GvG. Ask on the other forums and you will get responses.

This kind of game play is like a high school football team wracking up a massive score over an obviously weaker opponent. It’s considered bad sportsmanship there, so why isn’t it considered bad sportsmanship everywhere else, including WvW in GW2?
The choices seem…forced. These new PVE dailies take people out of their regular routines and forces them to go to places they probably hadn’t planned on that day. The WvW ones, on the other hand, you can get through normal WvW play. Not sure of the PvP ones.
But it’s definitely the PVE ones that are problematic. For instance, I am in the middle of trying to get mats for an attempt at a legendary. May not end up doing it, based on the drop table for the things I need, but will try. Except when I log in, and I like to do dailies, I have to port around to areas that give me nothing I need mat-wise. It doesn’t take long, but it is jarring.
My favorite wth moment is when, playing a new character, I walked up to the first SP you see in Queensland, and could do nothing with it. The idea being that it was too difficult to understand, I suppose. So now I have to remember, once I level up enough, to head back to the SPs I couldn’t commune with when my level was too low.
So bad.
I code for a living – albeit it isn’t game coding – but the design I would have for this is, in pseudocode (and I wouldn’t use an If statement, but easy to understand for demonstration purposes):
intLevelSP = 10
IF charLevel < intLevelSP then
objSkillPoint.accessible = false
else
objSkillPoint.accessible = true
EndIf
Then, in code, all I have to change is the intLevelSP variable. So, CHANGING this shouldn’t be such an onerous task. Just change a variable. So am at a loss for many of these things and why they are taking so long to fix.
If you are running a guild group in WvW, there’s a chance you could inadvertently give strategy away against a person in your guild whose server you are currently facing (if you use Guild Chat, for instance).
Plus, what happens if you have multiple officers from different servers? The guild upgrades (+5 supply, guild catas, etc) – it’s like supplying weapons to your enemy during a battle. Makes no sense at all.
So? I’m not a fan of telling guilds how they should be playing this game. And trying to create restrictions on guilds that make no sense doesn’t change the fact that anyone can buy another account and put it on another server without needing to be a member of a guild.
So, no comment on guild resources? Frankly, guilds across servers is a stupid idea. One that raises more issues than any benefit it provides – unless you do away with WvW altogether. Based on what has happened to it, and what hasn’t happened to it in 2 years, that could be coming.
Seriously? We have a billion threads about the broken search function. You couldn’t search for one of those and post it there? Sheesh.
This post…this post right up there ^^…reminds me of IT Support when you call them to complain about your email being down, and they tell you to send an email with the details.
Or was that sarcasm? Hard to tell on forums, nowadays.
I have a question to the Devs.
Is this designed to get people to throw gems away?
Apparently the only way this will work is if we pick a server and all agree to transfer to it. This will cost 1800 gems…..each……regardless of which server we pick (yes,I just checked tonight and they were all listed as Very High Population and all cost 1800 gems).
So we can hang out and PvE together but if we want to WvW together we are screwed unless we pay like $25 for each person. Now I understand why certain worlds suck at WvW. You can form a strong guild but unless you pay up you can’t WvW together and thus it will always be pick up zergs.
Frankly, I think allowing people to join a guild from more than one server what Anet’s biggest mistake.
Makes no sense at all.
the only ones who benefit from “no white swords” are ppl trying to ninja objectives against under-populated servers.
So your dishonestly claiming that absolutely no one at all, benefits by being capable of ninja taking keeps now unless they are against under populated servers?
It’s not a step in the right direction, it’s the exact opposite: it encourages all the wrong types of gameplay.
It is absolutely a step in the right direction as I see it.
Seriously. What server are you on? You must be on a relatively large pop server.
We are up against DB this week, and this hasn’t helped us at all. They can afford to have scouts/defenders and keeps. We don’t. We don’t have the population. Sure, we can ninja a keep. We did so. Tra la la. It’s gone in 5-6 mins (after RI is over). Just like EOTM. Half the time, while trying to ninja a keep with 5 or 6, we get steamrolled by a DB zerg of 20 or 30. After the 10th time, I’ve given up.
Really, the ONLY way we can get the attention of Anet on this is to not show up for a week. Especially if we get DB for a 4th week in a row (we’ve faced them 3 weeks in a row already). But that isn’t likely to happen.
