What GW2 race would you create?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: misterman.1530

misterman.1530

I would love to see a break-away “race” of the Risen. Kind of like the undead in WoW. You would still choose a race (Human, Charr, etc) but the cut-scene after character creation would show you being killed, then being made “risen” – but by a breakaway faction no longer under the Dragon’s control. Your first “quest/mission” would be to make contact with the other races – depending on your starting race: a Risen Charr would need to make contact with the Charr, etc. I think that would be fun.

The racial elite skills would be interesting to develop too.

But, then again, I know nothing of the lore, really, in this or in GW1, so perhaps that would not fit into it very well.

Marriage

Not sure if mentioned in this thread…sorry if it has…

How about marriage to an NPC only? You could “marry” an NPC that has specific talents (a la Skyrim). One type of NPC could provide resources (ore, etc.). Another could be a master chef and provide food (perhaps if you supplied them with the mats?). Another could be an armorsmith or any other crafting specialty – bring them the mats, and they can craft you an item. I don’t know…just spitballing here.

Now, that wouldn’t be too difficult to maintain. Not like two players marrying.

Yeah. Really. ^^ This, what you wrote, makes absolutely no sense at all. How would unlocking recipes account-wide “say goodbye to leveling your alts via crafting”?

There’s some sort of leap of logic that I am missing here. Please elucidate.

I love a challenge in WvW. I don’t like getting steamrolled, but nor do I think it’s fun to steamroll both opponents. Now, last week we walked all over the 2 servers we faced, climbed to 9th place…and…are once again facing the same 2 servers.

This has got to be one reason why more and more people are avoiding WvW.

Anet is working on "Stuff"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

misterman.1530

But “stuff” could be anything….more restrictive Trait system. More grinding necessary. More really ugly skins that cost gems. More…well…stuff that no one outside of a seemingly few actually will like.

I mean, if Anet pushed out a steaming pile, there are some on these forums who would wax poetic about the wonderful job they’ve done. These are usually people who never take the opposing stance on any issue…hey, “Everything’s awesome!” right?

Frankly, I trust most of the well-thought out negative people before I trust the white knights. Call me a pessimist, but I am seeing a very negative pattern here with the things they have given us.

While I applaud the idea that the writing could be tighter, I am not one for melodrama, just for melodrama’s sake. Pulling out the “Marjory becoming distant and pushing her friends away” is, imo, hack-writing 101. Next we will have NPCs suffer from amnesia, or maybe one has an evil twin, which will lead to all kinds of misunderstandings and hijinks. Gah. No thanks.

Definitely. I just quit. Again. Every time, I get a group of friends starting GW2, but we always stop playing it after like a month because we’ve already done everything in the game. Trust me, I love GW2, but I just can’t push myself to play it anymore.

Oh, you already have all Legendaries, collected all (obtainable) mini’s, completed all collections, filled up your wardrobe and completed every achievement in the game then?

Wait. waitwaitwait…THOSE are why you play GW2? Pretty clothes, grinding for weapon mats, collecting cutie-pie little minis, and next to useless achievements? THOSE are your yardsticks for measuring the game? I for one avoid consciously doing any of those things you listekitten

estyplox has finished playing all the quests…completed Arah story mode – I would assume. The rest is filler, and, imo, not so compelling at that.

However this topic really isn’t about whether the game is good or bad, or well or dying. It’s about Anet clarifying their direction for the game.

I’ve met very very few people who think it’s a bad idea.

It’s not whether it’s a bad idea or not…they can’t clarify their direction for the game because they don’t have one that will satisfy the current population. Here’s what I think they are working on:

1. Tyria Farms[sup]™[/sup] - where you have your own instanced farm. You can get “friends” to help plant things in your farm. You can send constant in game mail to the accounts of anyone you want, begging for help, or spend gems to get more exotic plants. “Tyria Farms[sup]™[/sup] - nothing like Farmville, no sir”

2. Fashion Designer – where you can buy patterns, mix-and-match, and design your own clothing! Patterns available in the gem store if you don’t want to wait for the RNG to kick in.

3. Miss/Mr Tyria – where the style-conscious can gather to vote on their favorite outfit. It’s like Barbie, but with Charr!

Then NCSoft and Anet can claim to have created a new style MMO…not an MMORPG, but MMOCGPE (Massive, Multiplayer, Casual Game Play Experience)!

On top of that, your game is not fun to play anymore. It’s full of stuns, knockbacks, 1-hit mechanics, sloppy hitboxes and inacurrate or missing telegraphs.

Yeah. Those mordem tendrils are awesome at sloppy mechanics. That one boss fight in the latest LS chapter made me absolutely think of old-school arcade games where you just ran around dodging crap from an enemy that, based on everything you’ve faced in the game up until that point, is so totally out of left field that it leaves you shaking your head.

You may have a point. But it still appears to be the best way to balance WvW. People are constantly whining about population imbalances, about siege disablers, and just about everything else.

Perhaps this idea isn’t as clear cut as it could be, but it would help. I am surprised at the absolute silence, especially from the whiners.

Thanks.

Well. Perhaps we could get the “narrative” director to explain why the changes were made in the first place. Changes that, as he/she even noted, need to be fixed. Simplest fix, restore the proper chronological order and put back in the pieces that are missing.

No shame in a rollback. That goes double for Traits.

[Suggestion] Outnumbering Debuff/Buff changes

in WvW

Posted by: misterman.1530

misterman.1530

Servers get a buff if they are outnumbered in a BL – this should be modified. As well, how about a debuff to the outnumbering server?

For instance, the buff currently is:

+33% Experience
+20% Magic find
+25% World Experience

Change this to also include :
+5% Power
+5% Vitality
+5% Toughness
-10% Supplies required to repair and build.
+5% damage with Siege
(the percentages could be different, not really trying to be exact here)

The debuff would simply be:

+10% increase in supplies required (or, again, some other percentage)
-5% damage with siege
Cannot use Siege disablers

Perhaps also add a -5% to each of Power, Toughness, and Vitality. Not sure.

There could also be a variable % depending on by how much one server outnumbers another. So, if server 1 has 100 people and server 2 has 50 on a BL, then there could be, instead of a static % for the buffs and debuffs, a variable one, up to a maximum number. So, a +0.1% increase per the number outnumbering server 2 – so 5%. Server 1 would get a similar -5% decrease on their stats.

Playing with these numbers could seriously help balance WvWvW. Especially for servers facing insurmountable odds.

It would also mean large zergs would have to be aware, rather than run around without much worry.

[Suggestion] Ascended Gear tab

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

misterman.1530

True. Anet/NCSoft would definitely want $ spent to get mats for Ascended gear. Making it easier to share items amongst toons would be against their best interests in that regard.

Too bad really. Though, I still hold out hope. I mean, they made Dyes account bound, and provided a common tab for all characters.

Here’s hoping.

misterman.1530

So basically what your saying is Legendary is Ascended? Because I thought Legendary was a higher tier?

Not really a higher tier in the normal sense.

Legendary has an advantage over ascended in the ability to switch stats. This makes alternate builds and the like easier for a character with a legendary than one with ascended. Legendaries also have signature cosmetics in the form of footprints and unique appearance.

Of course, it would probably be cheaper and less grindy to craft multiple ascended weapons of the same type with the various stats you want than to craft even one legendary. So, the multiple stat thing is not that important. As for the signature cosmetics, I would love it if Anet would offer us the ability to turn that graphic off, so I didn’t have to watch someone run around with a sparkly bit in their hand leaving pretty little flowers behind – like some sort of My Little Pony homage.

The whole lack of direct communication now has me feeling like the direction of the game itself might be in limbo and that is worrisome.

The forums have become increasing hostile, suspicious, and generally negative towards Anet for a reason that can be summed up in three words: Anet’s communication policy.

I am afraid you are both probably correct. They couldn’t possibly tell us that, except for a few tweaks on mechanics (Traits…gah, that one is so bad, etc.), seasonal events, and the occasional living story chapter, that they have nothing on the horizon – nothing on their roadmap. People would leave the game in droves. So, keeping silent seems to be the best strategy. They appear to be cherry picking the topics they respond to, and unless I am missing something, they only respond to ones regarding tweaks to mechanics, or complaints about current content, or to close WvW matchup threads.

[General Discussion] Rewarding: PvP > PvE ?

misterman.1530

Frankly, the second they begin to treat PvP as if it were on a higher tier than PvE is the second I drop the game entirely. I, personally, hate PvP. I know way more people that ignore and stay away from PvP than those who play it. Every piece of PvP-only gear/boosts I have ever got I either sold (if I could, I don’t remember) or trashed.

I think you might have an inflated sense of the numbers who actually PvP, rewards or not, vs those that don’t.

Actually I would go with both….a shared bag for food, the things you mentioned, etc., and a tab for ascended gear. That would work well. Would be nice if we could get some feedback from Anet on this. Though, if this is something they are currently working on, perhaps they can’t say anything, which is why no comment! YES! I’ve cracked the code!

misterman.1530

My apologies if this has been suggested before…

Since Ascended Gear (and I would assume Legendary – but since I have never even seen a sniff of a pre-cursor, I wouldn’t know ) is Account bound, it would be great to have a tab under Equipment – much like Finishers, Dyes, etc. – for Ascended gear.

This way, when you log on as your necro, you can use an ascended staff or daggers, and if you switch to your Ele, you don’t have to go to a bank first, dump your gear, log onto your Ele, and then go to the bank to get your gear. It would reside in your tab.

Thoughts?

GW2 is not “easy” if you are not aware of all the combinations and skill sets. For post-NPE new players, with few Traits, it’s hard to experiment with Trait builds for play styles. Then they get tossed into a boss fight with a totally unique dynamic and it can be a challenge to figure out the pattern. Like the trolling Zephryites who tell you to attack, and when you get in melee range, the ‘griff melts you down. Anyone who hasn’t fully experienced Anet’s sadistic behavior would be totally discouraged by that.

So, first time into the first boss fight, I was running my GS and A/A build – because that is what I like to play. Found it a terrible choice. Fortunately, I actually died and was able to both re-Trait and equip ranged. However, it was still annoying.

Totally ignoring that the OP might not have played 4 hours a day straight for 2 years. Perhaps offering some suggestions, asking questions, and helping would be more productive. Though, I guess it fills some sort of void in the lives of these “uber” players that they need to brag anonymously and tout their awesomeness…regardless of how irrelevant that game-playing awesomeness is in, you know, real life. /rant

To the OP…what boss did you hit that gave you problems? That ridiculous ’griff that ran around like a spastic, old-school arcade boss? Dodge a lot, and stay out of the orange circles. Ignore the tendrils, they disappear after a while. Use ranged where you can. I hated it, and dropped once (had to restart from a checkpoint).

If you are in the maze, you can get out of combat with the mobs by running around.

in WvW

misterman.1530

You can’t fix server unbalance. You can provide things to work around/with it. I have suggested before – increase the Outnumbered Buff, and give a You-have-too-many-people de-buff. If you outnumber the opponent on a BL, you lose a % of your damage and/or health AND you are hit with an increase in the supply it takes to deploy siege. Oh, and you also cannot deploy siege disablers.

Not sure what the numbers would be, but there must be a way. Right now, my server is ticking 0 points. The other server (the one in third) is actually ticking 10. Fun, fun times for everyone.

I am aware that the de-buff wouldn’t cure anything. And if your opponent has 0 people in a BL, the de-buff wouldn’t matter. But it’s a start, no?

When you got to a certain point, you could log off, then on again, and you would appear on the top spire of the city. Nice view too. THIS they fixed by adding an invisible wall/bubble(?) around the spot.

There was no strategic advantage, no mob you could kill or thing you could farm. You could not make gold from it. But they HAD to fix that asap because…you know…it was easy to do, or something.

Why do people expect to have to craft to get the higher level (Legendary) weapons? Could you imagine any other kind of game, FPS, GTA-style, etc. requiring players to have to collect a crap-ton of mats to make a better weapon? You should get them as rewards for doing the actual freaking content!

I beat Zhaitan, ostensibly the big-bad of the game, and got mats and some crappy coupon. You play a game, you expect to get a reward when you beat a boss. Not have to farm to get that reward. Beating the big boss should have netted us a useful Ascended, or even a Legendary. That’s the point of content.

I don’t farm. Everyone once in a while, I empty my bank (sell what I can on the TP). I’ve stopped crafting altogether except for food and things my characters might need.
