What setup (condis or power) you are talking about?

I pretty much only ran 2/0/6/6/0, so im using 0/0/6/6/6 post patch, settler stats. it’s one of the only builds that’s not struggling in this insane power/condi burst meta, from what ive seen so far anyway. im really enjoying the weakness spam and near-perma prot. it’s what we needed.

I think that’s fair, give how low its cd is with Resounding Timbre. it went from nearly useless to a very viable elite.

all offhand projectiles now only go to 900 range, and bonfire is only 180 radius.

pretty big undocumented nerf. bonfire needs to be at 240 baseline, like the traps.

that’s what i’ll be playing in WvW zergs probably, with some tweaks. I don’t think a build centering on the GS and power melee is viable in spvp.

In PvP, you should be able to hit at least 13 stacks with Strength Runes and Lingering Magic.

Heim we’re the only prof that has to put up with this insane mechanic to stack might. everyone else does it through the process of facerolling. Chaith was keeping up 25 stack of might on his cele engie spamming elixirs with HGH, Nos had 15+ stacks at all times on his tanky cele necro. these builds aren’t really sacrificing enough to stack these huge amounts of might.

why does the ranger have to jump through hoops to stack a bit of might? MDG is nonviable in its current state.

•What happens when a wolf uses fear with the Beastly Warden trait?

once taunt finishes (2s), the fear continues and target is feared for an additional second. it’s a nice way to stack stuns. I don’t think anyone else can do this

•Does Light on Your Feet stack?

it gives +10% condi duration and SB damage on any dodge (not evade) in combat. streamer was keeping up the bonus just by dodge rolling. I made an entire thread about this so read.

im basing these two answers on streamer previews today.

^I think so too. just on paper, I don’t see myself rolling without BM for condi builds due to the pet giving us the utility we lacked. but for all I know, i might be eating my words in a few days. power builds are a different story though, and it appears we have various options with LB and GS.

reason im mentioning traps is they actually make our condi spikes insane with a/d + s/t and Quickdraw. we have enough ways to pin someone down in that range, so losing the throw isn’t a big deal to me.

youre rationalizing a moot point. all im saying is: wait and see because what is apparent now on paper is likely not the entire picture in practice. all the whiners need to try everything out and spend at least a few dozen hours testing builds before condemning development efforts as utter fail.

OP, therefore, may not have a valid reason to complain because he hasn’t tested anything out.

the condi settler bunker can now either go into BM for more weakness, blinds, taunt, and beefy pets; or skirmishing for more condi damage. I feel theyre trying to sell pets as our utility tool set right now, and BW is good. it works well from what we’ve seen.

so in short, that type of build has gotten like 5-6 major buffs to improve damage, mitigation and utility.

I just have a feeling that we’ll be seeing some nasty trap builds with quite a bit of survivability.

These amulets are immediately useless – ferocity without ANY precision is a 100% waste.

that’s not true, I can tell you right away you’ll be seeing some Remorseless ranger builds, which get +25% dmg boost and a crit on the next ability after the proc. Remorseless procs after any new instance of fury. so for example, cavalier rangers will be pretty interesting, not sure yet if effective.

it’s a reasonable, albeit optimistic, outlook. u two are always so positive, how do you do it =P

my view is that we’re thrown into this power creep after things weren’t internally tested properly (not so much on the ranger end but some other profs), and we’ll have to put up with some insanity for at least a few months. at least.

oh im not worried about them too much. im just worried about the power creep, and the lack of cohesion within the dev teams. theyre just all over the place it seems.

back to BW, on closer inspection, he moused over the GM and it is indeed 240 radius range, which is equivalent to the traps. honestly, it’s not too bad. it will always snag one or two people. I would like it buffed to 300, but we just have to test to see how it plays out in practice. at least its INSTANT, meaning we should be able to get the taunt off reactively. a hard cc / status effect is probably the best CC you can get in the game.

all that being said, im actually really excited about RaO and how it constantly procs Remorseless. even LOYF is looking pretty good, compared to what we saw last.

I did notice that. I was hoping for at least 300, fantasizing about 600. I might be ok with this considering it’s basically spammable. theyre being very careful with this GM, understandably so. but then they allow engies to faceroll people for 8k burns per sec.

so apparently, only the defensive stats are getting nerfed? i thought the problem with the kitten thing was that it gave too much offense. they should have left the defense and reduced the offensive capability of the ammy. all the esports people are pretty much gonna keep using cele. will the buff to other “pure” amulets make up for this?

for a while I was very excited about tomorrow’s patch, but after seeing some of these builds and stats on today’s streams, im convinced it will be a total gong show tomorrow and for a long while after.

um, so builds that ordinarily would get some vit from traits or amulets will no longer be getting it. but they buffed everyone’s damage to a huge extent. one example is the condi bunker ranger getting about 2k HP from Nature Magic; zerker ammy giving a bunch of HP to glass builds, all cele builds will have less vit, etc.

on top of this, condi builds will be doing insane damage. so yeah, everyone just blows up basically?

mortar AA doesn’t do the same thing by any stretch of the imagination. LB AA is virtually instant. and any viable engie builds using mortar wont have any survivability.

the silly man hosting sort of scoffed at this but when he was showing LOYF, it was apparent that the condi duration and damage was changed back to +10%. it procced on ANY dodge, not requiring a successful evade. so he was basically just proccing it constantly while dodge rolling.

I don’t know if it’s better than Quickdraw in any situation, BUT what I love about this is that it rewards a certain play style, i.e. evading and dodging a lot.

Remorseless is looking amazeballs, we’ll have virtually limitless fury procs. as was discussed before, 6/0/6/0/6 with Cavalier stats is looking soooo good.

Not too bad. You could start your combo with rao, then use your other utilities and traits for fury until its off CD again.

to proc Remorseless? exactly. we also have Clarion Call.

The taunt on pet seemed very short 1-2 sec, he tried it with wolf. By the time the wolf finished to howl(the taunt activates on the f2 press) the taunt was over and got replaced by the fear.

excellent. this is very, very good news that BW activates independent of the F2 making contact with target. im so happy right now.

also hidden barbs was indeed OP at 33%, even 20% is more or less a must for condi builds.

I mentioned elsewhere you should be able to zerg with bears, as long as u have bark skin. They have innate endure pain so if ure running BW for the utility , you will be able to get it off every time before they die.

This will be especially useful for tanky GS builds. Go clarion call and remorseless, swap pets, do the taunt + maul. This would be especially effective with SoW to give u both stab. Rinse and repeat. I will need to test it but I think we should be able to pull it off even in the thickest zergs.

I like your list.

I also love how they cleaned up the marks tree, buffed baseline longbow, and consolidated LTW.

Hidden barbs is huge. QuickDraw and BW specifically are huge additions. Protective ward as well, especially with barkskin, neutralizes any burst.

The other really big thing is spike trap.

i think we have been getting the engie treatment. we got a ton of overhauls and huge improvements to the BM tree, and therefore the pets. ranger is gonna be beastly, i know i wont be playing anything else.

i don’t see how crap like spotter and frost spirit matters when our bleeds will be doing +33% damage and there wont be a condi stack cap. we should be able to maintain a ton of bleeds, poison and burns permanently, in addition to our pets hitting much harder. 0/6/0/6/6 with Quickdraw, 3 traps, and full rabid or something. that’s what i’ll be running anyways.

quickdraw has absolutely everything to do with it. when you stack a bunch of very good GM’s with a lot of utility, you get a very good build. one that is better than others. quickdraw allows things like double Hunter’s Shot, or double swoop. so it hugely increases our survivability (as well as damage).

yes we can slot EB and SotF right now. but we do way less damage than we’ll be doing after the patch. and we don’t have quickdraw. pure condi builds aren’t prevalent in the meta, so slotting both in fact is wasteful. next week, we’ll have a ton more survivability via BW, Protective Ward, Oakheart Salve, Quickdraw, and Barkskin. we’ll also be stacking lots of poison, our pets will be hitting harder, and our bleeds will be doing +33% damage.

when you make suggestions like these, you have to take into account the ENTIRE picture, and how GM’s interplay with each other.

Honed Axes needs to be competitive with BW. it needs to reduce OH axe recharge (like in original reveal), and buff richochet damage by at least 30% so power builds can include a/a.

  • Honex Axes – incorrect. You would like the AoE chill that is on such a short cooldown. The Ferocity part of the trait is wrong, but that doesn’t make the trait useless.

i just don’t understand why you would go into BM and not get Beastly Warden almost every time. zephyr’s speed would be a situational pick for longbow specs. the other issue is aoe chill doesn’t improve your 1v1 or skirmishing capabilities AT ALL. it’s very unlikely you’ll be clipping everyone with the chill, unless youre throwing it into a zerg. and even then, a hard CC status effect is always better than a soft condi. people slot 1 or 2 stunbreakers at most, while having plentiful or limitless condi cleanses.

Honed Axes wont be getting picked by anyone “good”, until axes get mega buffed or something. unless Beastly Warden turns out to be a mega fail, which i doubt.

to address some other concerns, the GM’s i listed under too strong are exactly that – they are too strong relative to others in that line. meaning they will likely get picked almost every time. this does not mean they need to get nerfed, but simply that we need to buff the others to that level.

NO. running EB with WK, SoR, and Quickdraw would make us godmode. basically completely immune to condis. especially if you decide to run a brown bear in there as well. please stop suggesting these swaps. youre completely out of touch with reality. Honed Axes is pretty useless and it does need a buff, but i wouldn’t be moving it around too much.

we’re in a good spot. huge leaps toward build variety and making pets useful, in pvp, pve and wvw.

spirits we don’t know much about. and half of the shouts are still useless. WH and OH axe need work. SB we’re not sure about yet.

I honestly couldn’t care less about the engie buffs, never had any issues with that prof regardless of their spec.

WD in its current state is useless. this ability is virtually the same since the game’s release, functionally. it received some silly nerfs (from aoe to cleave), some useless buffs (retal and larger bubble which was just a bug fix), and a mediocre buff on PoS (the pull, which is really hard to fully land in small fights). but in general the 5s channel time makes no sense. you would never need to channel for so long, so why have it behave this way?

if you try WD with QZ, it becomes a 2.5s cast and it feels PERFECT. the damage isn’t over the top even with zerker gear. but I still don’t understand why we cant move while casting it. stillness in pvp is death, especially on the ranger.

devs, please fix. this is the worst reflect in the game. every other prof has a “fire and forget” reflect. they instacast the reflect and move on. ive been advocating for OH axe to get looked at for 2 years now. I guarantee it wont see any play if WD isn’t changed. same goes for the warhorn. #5 isn’t useful enough to warrant using this weapon just for the one skill, because #4 (Hunter’s Call) is a terrible ability with bad damage and no utility.

the only thing truly broken about gvg balance is how nonviable condi specs are. some profs have more viable builds than others. and many weapon sets aren’t viable sure, but the same issue in spvp. also, there is even more variation in raids compared to gvg.

compared to the spvp meta, gvg has a ton more variety.

I think Tuesday patch will bring more build variety to gvg’s. and the elite specs even moreso. expect to see chronomancers for example, and lots of reapers in the frontline.
