Nice site, would be nice if it could give a little tooltip when hovering over one of the lines in the graph with the data at that point. I believe it’s probably an option in the graphing library you use.
It would be great if you could store the matchups of more than one week ago (not sure yet if that’s what you’re aiming at or not, but by your wording ’ latest ended matchup.’ it seems perhaps not).
It would be a great tool to compare the differences in night capping ability between servers this way
Site looks very ‘clean’, I love it, I’m all for ‘less is more’ when it comes to design.
i can somehow understand Gandara – since i played on that server for several months.
They actually have a few decent wvw guilds but they lack of support from casual wvw players.
For example: the unselfish jobs like guarding objectives, escorting “bessies”, tapping siege,
upgrading objectives and so on are kinda neglected on that server.
They wanna roam around with their guildgroups and encounter opponents (but preferrably
less or the same size tho) – but its more like “closed community”. There is (or better was) no one
“in duty” to motivate the casuals.Abaddon is different:
- wvw community (incl. commanders) always welcome new players and casuals and let them be involved into the
action – our wvw guilds know that they are a very important force.
- even casuals do the unselfish jobs of guarding, escorting and such since we see the wvw community as a whole
- there are 400+ ppl on TS3 at reset weekend with musicbots and lots of nonsense too XD it’s more like a big and often hilarious party!
- running in a big group can be really funny – despite the lag that occurs now and then…and we just play for fun!
- last but not least: we dont take it too serious if we get wiped or lost important objectives…
we try to learn from it but we dont blame others for that (we will strike back insteadAbaddon is a middle populated server but my rough guess is, that almost every 2nd Player on there is at least
a casual WvW Player. And this is what makes the difference in style of play. You chose the way of
“closed community” and we have chosen the way of “everyone is welcome” – makes it harder for the commanders concerning tactical gameplay,
but the the benefit of having a big force and all the fun that comes along with this style more than compensate for this.My suggestion: at least try it once to recruit and integrate casual wvw players and stop blaming
others for their more broad community biased style – its a Win-Win…believe it or not!
From watching AM videos I can definitely tell they’re having fun with their style of play. Grouping up into as big a group as possible and steamrolling everything smaller is also the most effective strategy at the moment, especially when the opposition tends to ignore the important tasks such as scouting/sieging up/upgrading.
I’m pretty sure everybody on Gandara knows this. When speaking for just myself though, When there is a group of players of the general size of an AM ‘blob’ (even if it’s allies) around, my FPS drops to around 5. When groups of that size start tossing skills around, my FPS drops to around 0.2, meaning even running away will be impossible and I’ll just have to wait till they’ve stopped using skills to I can port back to spawn.
I have zero issues with groups up to around 15-25 fighting each other; I can even record those fights and play normally. Until the time somebody donates me a better computer, I’ll just be praying Anet does something to discourage blobbing up or that we meet enemies that use smaller guild groups.
There are plenty of those servers around that I can have a lot of fun playing against, as my game will actually function correctly. Whenever we are up against AM though, it means one server will definitely not be providing any playable fights and odds are people will group up to compensate on the other servers as well. Leading to me even being unable to be close to my allies and still play.
I know there are people with similar issues to mine, that log out saying the game is unplayable after trying for an hour or so to play and have fun. This almost only occurs against certain servers, where AM is one of the biggest culprits. This is a big reason for hating any match-up involving AM for some people, aside from the obvious issues such as skill-lag.
Anyway, I’m glad they’re all having fun, I’ll just hope for a fun time next week. Seriously hate the new matching system as we had finally dropped back to some playable tiers.
+1 /signed and stuff
Definitely needs something.
I’d say this delay in the random crap shoot system is a blessing for all servers. RS and AM won’t have to deal with any whining and AG and Gandara don’t have to deal with lag and fps issues
I think we should take this opportunity to show what we have learned in our current matchup from the superior strategies of AM. It’s time to whip out the yolobus and put all those blueprints we got to good use!
ahem
Let’s hope we can squeeze out as much fun as possible before those random matchups hit us and will quite possibly liven up the tPvP scene instead. Which might be their plans all along.
Also, make sure you are in a party. When you’re in a party you only have to tag somebody by doing at least 1 damage, provided the total damage of your party exceeds ~1000-2000 damage on every person you’ll be getting a drop.
I actually found it much harder to get badges running solo along in a zerg than running with a smaller guild group. You’ll usually be tagging every person you fight when running as a guild group as you move through all of the enemy in a coordinated manner, especially if you’re outnumbered as they won’t run away as soon.
Oh yesh, [IF] smacked our behinds at water camp, trying to forget about that :P
Thanks for the fun indeed [dw]. Seems when we hit you at the same time as [JDGE] we had slightly more numbers but more or less a fair fight. Was quite funny when we met you at hills and we got steamrolled… thinking huh I could swear [dw] didn’t have this many people, turns out there was the riverside alliance or whatever also in the same spot eager for our badges
This matchup is turning out to be a lot more fun than expected so far.

yo…Dev who answered this…u wanna give us an ETA to this WvW crippling issue? I noticed you fixed some little silly stuff with the patch but didn’t seem to even acknowledge this on the update that you’re working on it
They have acknowledged it in this very thread you just posted in.
I’m pretty sure they would have fixed it by now if they could have. It’s not like programmers sit around looking at their bug saying to each other… hmm shall we fix it now or give it another day or two to get people really riled up. They do what they can and sometimes fixing a bug can take a lot more time than you’d wish. Considering the severity of the bug it’s probably quite a stressful situation, which is generally not conducive to quality code either, so let’s pray they take their time making sure any changes they make won’t introduce other bugs.
Ok guys lets split up into 5-man groups only
Now there’s an idea I can get behind!
Let’s do this! Oh wait, we usually already do.
I understood the OP’s doubt.
The software has to “recognize” GW2.
IF GW2 has not the “focus”, the GW2Stuff overlay is not “thruclicable”.The doubt is an “hack&exploit detect engine” from ANet could take it as an hack or something else.
It doesn’t need to interact with GW2 at all to make it recognize the GW2 window, as it can just ask windows that, same with ‘thruclicability’ being just something that windows handles. That is, assuming it’s programmed in a sane manner. Any hack & exploit engine from Anet would only recognize this program if it specifically goes through your list of processes and looking for it, or just hating on all AutoIt programs.
I believe there was a huge stink over Blizzard’s detection engine scanning through your other applications and it no longer does this as it was looking through all kinds of things it shouldn’t and now keeps itself to scanning through it’s own memory. I would assume that any engine Anet would come up with would be limited in a similar manner.

Oh great. I gave it a try, despite the blobs etc, went in for 20 mins, ran into 3 blobs (30+ people) on 1 single map. Good job really 30 people vs. 5! The german servers are the worst players I’ve seen by far and the most cowardly aswell. Please drop out of the game, you’re a disgrace to WvW. This is especially AM.
Really? 30+ zergs are blobs now too?
Ok guys lets split up into 5-man groups only. And no group is allowed to come closer than 100 meters to each other!!
Oh boy please let Gandara and Aurora be our next enemies. (The chances are good!!)
Getting flamed hard by two servers at once. YES!
Hehehe, made me laugh
I prefer retaking a keep over trying to find some bloody mesmer/thief duo. I appreciate the amount of skill that goes into the hiding and god knows I can’t do it. It’s good to see there’s still something in wvw that requires skill over numbers.
There is plenty that requires skill over numbers. Numbers only become insurmountable with imbalances in excess of 2:1 or 3:1 depending on the capability of the groups involved.
Otherwise you can easily eat people with lesser numbers with good play and good tactics.
Which is why certain servers tend to only fight when they outnumber you 2:1 or 3:1. Sorry I brought up the numbers thing, don’t mean to derail this thread as it’s a legitimate cause for concern.
I’m mainly wondering how many people enjoy the stealth mechanics and hunting down these thieves and mesmers. I can imagine that some people will like the thrill of the chase and all that, but I’m not sure. If people on both sides of the engagement enjoy it, then mechanics are fine in my opinion, but if only one side enjoys the mechanics, something needs to be done.
I’m really loving this, keep us posted on your progress!
You’re sure, that that overlay is a trojan? If yes, I have one on my Computer… One point, that would speak for it, is, that i cant find any Folder or something, i only got the .exe in my download folder… wasnt there a setup??
You generally don’t need a setup with small standalone apps. This being an AutoIt program, you definitely don’t need a setup as the compiled versions are meant to be run with just the .exe
@others discussing this topic
I feel that with open source programs the chance is much lower that it will contain trojans etc, especially if they’ve been out for a while and it has acquired a sizable amount of users or at least people discussing the program. The more people actively using or discussing said program, the higher the chance of having some knowledgeable people amongst them that will have checked the source code.
There’s never a guarantee without going through the source code yourself and compiling it, but there are definitely some factors that make it seem more likely to be ‘legit’. Then there are of course always cases such as the ‘bitcoin mining malware incident’ from sources most would think be trustworthy. Such is life, you can’t trust everyone, but sometimes you do have to trust and hope for the best.
In general if you don’t have any programming savvy yourself, try and look out for these sort of things:
-open source (even though you yourself can’t read it)
-trustworthy dev (somebody with a good standing in a community and a lot of activity there has more to lose)
-many users / downloads
-long discussion thread (actually read it all if feasible; at least try to read the latest posts)
-try and find information from different sources (think forums / websites)
In general principle: do your research. I’ve come across some terrible cases where somebody posted a certain program that just reeked of being ridden with malware (posted by a new member, no open source, claiming impossible things in a format common to previous bad programs). The following thread consisted of many posts by knowledgeable people with good standing in the community claiming it was malware. After a day or two somebody showed the method used to pack the said malware and the code within the program that was responsible for sending on account information. Screenshots of the email account being used for collecting the account information including several compromised accounts (not the exact details) were also shown. Then the next few posts in the thread were all from new users still downloading it and complaining it wasn’t doing what was promised.
In general it is better to err on the side of caution and if none of the above listed things look very promising, just don’t rush to download it and give it some time until you feel confident either way.
I prefer retaking a keep over trying to find some bloody mesmer/thief duo. I appreciate the amount of skill that goes into the hiding and god knows I can’t do it. It’s good to see there’s still something in wvw that requires skill over numbers.
I wanna thank riverside for their changed attitude since we last met them, a lot more guilds running separately and more fights outside of towers and keeps. Keep it up! You’re making this matchup a lot more entertaining!
It was quite fun to see how riverside seemed to really really badly want AM’s garrison, I think there were crossed swords inside there for 3 consecutive hours or something. I had a blast tonight, hoping it’ll be more like this the rest of the week and things won’t be as bad as I feared
I recall [REQ] running 2 guardians, 2 mesmers and 1 ele and they hit like a truck. Tanky classes might not be needed in 5v5, but imho they help a lot in fighting against larger groups.
It also makes it so people don’t make a deal with someone on the enemy server to keep killing them over and over to level up world ranks.
kitten you guys for throwing in the towel against the germans blobs!
They don’t even respect the general idea of a (10-man) guild group dressed up as dolyaks. No, they will not be a threat to your 80-man blob. No, you do not need to envelop them in static fields as they run into you. And no, they don’t have any buffs or ranged attacks so keep your null fields and reflection bubbles for another day.
Seriously, the couple of random people we came across were nice enough to run away and not attack though, but those blobs are hardcore about killing dolyaks.
I bet with our luck those new random matchups will make us meet the bloody blobs again every week however much we lose against em.
another option to prevent too much volatility due to randomness (but still allow it occasionally, just to keep things interesting) is to use a flattened bell curve distribution for random numbers, rather than a linear distribution.
with a linear distribution, you are just as likely to get a +0.9 as you are a 0 or a -0.9. with a flattened bell curve numbers near zero will be more likely than numbers far from zero, but the outliers will still happen from time to time.
I think a flattened bell curve is needed rather than a regular one because otherwise the outliers won’t happen nearly often enough to have a noticeable impact.
a computationally easy way to do something similar (but mathematically less accurate) is to simply take two linear random numbers between -0.5 and +0.5 and add them together. statistically, numbers near 0 will be more common than numbers farther away (similar to how 1-6 are all equally likely on a single die, but with 2 dice 7 is very common while 2 and 12 are rare).
-ken
This would seem like a better approach indeed. I don’t mind the occasional snake eyes, but let’s keep those 7s coming a bit more frequently.
FS* it is, saving on confusion and all that.
Just wanted to say how much this work is appreciated. It really is a joy to have access to information without having to resort through OCR techniques, data mining data files and the probably naughtiest option of accessing the memory of the game directly. Oh or collecting data by hand shudder
Looking forward to any future updates
HAI TDA.
@Cliff. Great to hear OAuth is coming, and the APIs will eventually extend down to player level data.
The next big API has to be the TP though. While there are a ton of good pre-auth API ideas, the TP is an obvious one and much needed one.
No one likes scraping webpages
HAI JDGE
I agree that releasing TP API would be useful. I currently have an app halfway in development that monitors and buys certain items based on their relation with other items, but I’m a bit hesitant on completing it as it uses memory reading to obtain session and char id and I just don’t feel right using that. Especially not when potentially releasing it to others.
I just want to point something out to the people that advocate servers with less population getting more points for holding objectives, or accounting for night capping through the point system:
Gathering more points will make you come up against opponents with even more coverage and will thus lead to worse fights. The current system is actually working more or less in getting the servers with more coverage pitting against each other. If you start giving more points to servers with less population they’ll end up against servers with even more people. I’d prefer fighting other servers with the same issues as mine to be honest.
I also don’t really understand the “I’m bored of fighting against these servers, let me fight against servers that will totally roll over mine with superior population” mentality, but Anet is adjusting the system for those. Of course the servers getting stuck in tiers they can’t get any decent fights in were right to complain, but the complaints from people in other tiers I really don’t understand.

You mean something like this?
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9xw2_f0nBEPUGtkZXNsTWFlYVU&usp=sharing
Thanks for sharing that, might come in handy for some future tools
At the moment it’s only currently possible to buy through the ‘API’ and that’s already an incredibly powerful tool for power traders. It allows you to capitalize on markets that no sane person would do by hand, giving an unfair advantage. If you add selling in there, people with large gold stores will be able to automate some scary stuff, resulting in certain artificial bubbles that will definitely not be beneficial to the GW2 community.
I have to say, that’s pretty epic
I think the reason there’s less love for hardware is that generally less people posses that skill
I know I certainly don’t, don’t really go far beyond screwing in a light bulb when it comes to my useless hands.
Yup, RS and AM better be ready for another dose of the same whining they got from AG, just a slightly different flavour from Gandara, but close enough. It’s like discussing the weather; everything has already been said a million times, but still people keep on talking about it. It’s just in your face the whole time so it’s hard to ignore it
Yeah, it’s a bit of a nuisance that you have to avoid your own garrison or crash :P
Actually, the reason why it’ll be useful to get the guild names with the API is that nobody ever replies when you ask who claimed objective X. At least not when it’s somebody that claimed it without activating any buffs, it’ll be nice to find out what guilds are responsible so they can be told why it’s not a good idea
But yeah, eagerly awaiting new additions to the API
Yeah it would be nice. That said I’ve had a few whisper me back so far telling me it’s them, or thakitten ’s such and such a guild. Even had a few guilds go out of their way to claim things so I can get their IDs too
Oh that’s actually quite a good idea
Ah well, I’m not finding it incredibly important at the moment for what I’m doing, it would just be a nice extra.
Serieusly, this is getting stupid. Fix the kitten keep arenanet. We can’t even defend it -_- If we go close to Gandara keep as Gandara players our game crashes -_-
Update: 8:30 am -> Game crashes happening at Gandara Hill now as well. We can’t get out. Only way atm is to speed run it to Aldon safe path.
Update 8:40 am-> Game Crashes happening when Wp’ing to the hill now. This is not always, but more people are reporting this.
Update 8:51 am -> going from EBG to Gandara BL , Can let your game crash as well.
I just logged in, wped to gandara garrison and boom… game crashed (2:30 pm)
Yup, can’t port to garrison either. Yay for crashes
Moturdrn is right about the order, its red-blue-green.
You can find the objective names in another thread, its easy to put them in a database and link them with the ID’s.
For the match_detail, for the time being.. it is possible to ask in the chat which guild claimed what, and then you can figure it yourself :P

Their development time is better spent making/improving ingame features. Providing sufficient API (like they’re starting to do now) for fans to make tools is a much more efficient way of doing things, plus fans LOVE making tools, so you make them happy as well.
Keep it up Anet, loving the new API!
It really depends on what you want to do with your guardian. I run in groups of around 10 mostly and play a boon support guardian (0/0/10/30/30). I focus on providing boons, staying alive and tossing out decent heals. I make sure my crit is around 30% so it’s 50% with fury in order for me to achieve permanent vigor and provide might for my party on pretty much every hit.
I keep my healing power high enough to achieve 1k heal dodge rolls (think it’s around 900 healing power or so) and the rest goes to vitality and toughness so I have 20k health and decent armor. Runes and food go towards providing me with an extra 60% boon duration for 90% total.
I run staff for all the support skills and greatsword or hammer depending on the needs of the group. Usually greatsword for the pulls and mobility, but sometimes hammer for the blast finisher, immobilize and circle of warding. My guardian is decently tanky and my stat priority for gear was as follows:
1) precision -> 30% crit
2) healing power -> 1k dodge rolls
3) vit (I rank vit higher than toughness because necros are usually most dangerous)
4) toughness
5) power
6) crit damage
7) condi damage
Got 257 badges yesterday, it’s all just a matter of killing more than one person.
due to low end pcs xD
I’ve seen your videos, calling what they use a pc is a blatant lie xD
I somehow feel that’s directed at me XD
Slideshows are a lost form of art. It gives you more chance to appreciate the enemy properly before they roll right over you
The kids of today uses PowerPoint instead! Be hip but don’t be a hipster!
Those kids should get off my lawn! kitten mobile gadgets allowing them to PowerPoint anywhere

I could swear I was there, has this happened multiple times? :P
The rewards are already pretty high and I don’t even zerg. You just need to take one sentry and a dolyak for every time you die and you’ll probably be breaking even. Throw in a camp or two and you just paid for your lvl 80 food.
Of course if you actually kill players you just need one or two good group wipes to pay for all your expenses and make a profit. I’ll usually make a couple gold an evening purely in cash, without selling all the mats (and occasional rares / exotics) I get. Gearing up new characters got really cheap with the ability to just buy it with badges and a tiny amount of gold.
Unless you are aiming for a legendary, lack of rewards is a silly reason not to do WvW. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people just don’t want to do it because they don’t enjoy it. That would make sense at least, not sure why they would want to bring rewards into it.
Enjoy our borderlands :P
The problem is, you get punished for having good strategies as you’ll end up in higher tiers. The ideal is to wipe enemy groups without accumulating too many points, the best way to do this is let them break through a tower wall or gate so you can catch them unawares. Occasionally you’ll have to ninja back some towers when you fail to kill them all before they cap it, but that’s the best strategy I see so far.
A tower can also be taken by a single player; guards aren’t there to make it so you don’t need to defend, they’re there to help defend, or possibly slow down the capping by small groups. If you disagree with that, then let’s just agree to disagree.
A fully upgraded camp with a balista and just a couple defenders is really hard to take by a 5 man group, because of all the control put out by those NPCs, whereas in a non upgraded camp you would just ignore the NPCs and rush straight for killing the players.
In a similar manner, those extra guards from the dolyaks also add to the mass of NPCs in a camp if they don’t have a tower to go to. Add in some quaggans and you’re likely to not even hit the players because of the 5 target cap on AoEs.
When somebody is guarding a dolly with added sentries, it becomes a lot harder to kill the dolly fast while ignoring the player guarding it, again because of the CC offered by the sentries. This one is a bit dependent on your class of course, but when I’m roaming solo on my uplvled character I get stopped from killing dollies more often when they have sentries on them.
Sure, it won’t help anything against a zerg, but the upgrades do help make up the difference in numbers at times. I mostly run in very small groups and solo at times, so I probably run into the ‘effectiveness’ of upgraded camps more often.

Lol, just spent an enjoyable hour in wvw. Pointed out the duelists hanging around, and we kept zerging through to smoke ‘em. One of my friends from dungeon running is on DH (we’re IoJ) and is trying to get them to do the same to our “duelists”.
Bit of a pity they’re out of the way of anything really tactical, but whatever. Worth the detour just to stomp ’em.
This is pretty much what I expect to happen now. The duelists will become entertaining fodder for the WvWers.
Guessing that`d mean the PvDKnockers will have to come with a zerg (for a change…;p) as I`d also place bets that the duellers/GvGers will be better at PvP.
Better at dueling, 1-v-1, PvP perhaps. Unfortunately for them open field, mass combat, involves an entirely different skill set. I think the phrase you are looking for is “steam rolled”.
It should probably be pointed out I am not referring to random pug zergs here, but dedicated WvW guilds. You know, the guys that show up with 15-ish and wipe the 40+ person pug zergs without batting an eye? Yeah, them.
I find that a lot of the duelers are actually a part of those 15ish guilds that wipe larger pug groups and they do the dueling while most of their guild isn’t on. I personally don’t participate in the dueling stuff because I build my characters for group combat, but I love watching it all the same.
Also, those guild groups do the exact same when they GvG in the same spot the duels usually take place, so they’re not very likely to go out of their way to kill duelers. Most good guilds I know will have participated in GvGs frequently enough so unless there’s some totally different atmosphere going on in the servers you interact with, I’m not sure any of those guilds will do what you think they would.
Some of our fun yesterday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyCI61fYoI4
featuring [dC], but sadly the video is blocked in Germany so you’d have to use a proxy to see it
I know it’s always fun to see yourself being fought from the enemy PoV though.
(edited by multivira.7925)
This question was probably here before, but I couldn’t find an answer. Why are those wvw skins for badges only for 80 level player? They are karma skins from low level zones. I thought that’s great when I first saw them. But now I start to level new character in wvw and it’s not available for him. I even try to move my item on level 80 character, but applying that skin makes it soulbound (if I’m not wrong).
I cannot see why would anybody buy this on level 80, but I can see why they would buy it on lower levels. I was so happy about them and now I’m sad
Was it intended????
I bought some on my lvl 80 because I’m too lazy to look up in what zone to get these items and walk there.
What ? TDA is on Gunnars? /cheer
lmao, we have discussed it, but since the new tier we are in atm is a lot of fun we are staying on gandara
Besides, not all of us are always guardians… we have warriors too!
I know ^^ , i only wanted to know if we could met TDA next week . =((
Yeah we miss fighting BNF as well! Just transfer to Miller’s Sound
nooooooooooaoaoaoaao.
i was just yesterday looking at some old GH screenshots and there was TDA everywhere.
“run fizzle run fizzle run run run”
might upload them to GH forum if you guys wanna have a look :P
Would love to see those screenshots, just make sure it’s in a spot we have access and I for sure would love to have a look.
Anyways, enjoy yourselves while you can, at some point a few of us core Gunnar’s will just transfer over to Gandara and take the whole TDA guild for hostages and bring them back by force along with all the random people that happen to stand around near them. I know Valdel (old anarchist at heart) wont mind because we are driven by hot lovin alone.
Haha, if the ol’ ball & chain will let Val come and play with you guys
I hate when people post videos with music and it’s blocked in germany… Can’t watch them at work then ._.
But anyways:
Thanks for the quite interesting and fun bracket.
Yeah, sadly you can’t tell in advance whether the music will be blocked there or not and it’s a lot of time / effort to replace the music again.
