Allegedly there’s a map (who knows where that is?) that’s tracking the vine spread – we could use that to test the hypothesis.
Check the thread on “What is that vine doing to that waypoint?” Currently bottom of page 3, someone’s kindly put up a map of affected waypoints.
There is this http://abload.de/img/worldmap070914foeer.jpg from reddit.
As is said in the other post, the flickering ones aren’t flickering anymore.
When i checked this morning, i noticed some of the previously flickering WPs aren’t flickering anymore. Not sure if that’s a different instance of the map thing or some other bug.
They work by magic. And a small spell to relieve you of your coin.
And why would it be so impossible that a entity that consumes magic can utilize said magic?
I think the point is they aren’t using them to travel. If you look at the Tunnels Waypoint, you’ll see that the vine is tapping they energy from that WP. In the video, you can see a broken WP laying on the ground.
Scarlet released the energy contained in the laylines into the world, which woke Mordy. So it’s highly likely that these vines are trying to tap into the WP system to absorb back some of that energy. It’s also quite likely they are traveling through the leyline, tapping WP as they go along. That’s my thinking.
The Three Toed Moa fight is a nice change, being able to see when he’s about to run off via the UI is a pretty nice feature. I’d much rather see more of this than “fixing” defiant.
It’s actually quite a feat they have pulled off. Looking back at the rebuilding of the Lion Statue in LA (post mad king), it only got repaired over the course of patches. So to pull off this growth deal with the vines (even if you can’t see them grown live, if it requires a map change) is a pretty cool thing.
Attached is the path. Some of them i notice are flickering, some aren’t but have vines and some have both the flicker and the vine.
I’m wondering if the flickering has been there since the end of LS season 1, after the drill punctured the ley line, and we’re only now noticing it because the vines are starting to follow it backwards.
It hasn’t, it’s actually spreading. I went through them last night and it didn’t reach as far as it does now.
Haven’t checked any of these waypoints (gonna try to remember tonight to though), but to those that have, can you still use (waypoint to) them? Or do they become contested?
Yes, so far tunnels waypoint in skrittsburg is in the worst shape, but it’s still functional.
Attached is the path. Some of them i notice are flickering, some aren’t but have vines and some have both the flicker and the vine.
I just checked and the flickering is up to earthworks camp waypoint, so it’s actually expanding pretty rapidly.
A centaur did “raise” the pale tree. Ventari’s Refuge (Ettins back, similar to Giants) is likely to be either the next area or the one after.
Could also have much to do with the format of the drive fat versus ntfs, the block size and the size of the drive.
To answer the question about that area. Yes, it’s been there since release.
I also think it’l be lvl 80, as for anyone who isn’t 80 yet, they might be upscaled like when the tower of nightmares was released in kessex hills or something (the story instance upscaled you to 80 and if i remember correctly, the tower itself, too)
A friend and me managed to get inside that fort and tried to hit them. We are underleveled there so we died in a gun shot. Next time we did bring reflect wall from guardians, they did reflect some hits but not even a 0,00001% health was done. All those lvl 80 are champions also and i guess we can’t kill them.
However, we found something in the fort… it was completely empty, towers and rooms, they had no furniture or even tables… but there was this: http://prntscr.com/3y0d33
Going across it does nothing, it’s just an animation, however it’s something that you can’t see from any part of brisban unless you specifically sneak into that fortress. So… my guess? we’ll use that portal.
There is also an asura gate on the opposite side of the fort
I was actually putting 2 and 2 together, when i thought back on Majory’s sister saying she was heading off to Brisbane to deal with some strange bandit activity, which basically fits both the fort and the portal beyond the broken bridge.
Apparently building/repairing bridges is a really hard job for bandits, since they’ve been doing it since launch :P
The fundamental woe has been how tightly the economy is being balanced. The impact on a game economy via changes to the reward system have to always be carefully weighed, as it can ruin even the best games. I think the system of rewards is far more out of whack than the issue of flippers ‘duping’ players or controlling the market. I also think the TP really needs to be clearer about what an item is going for. I’ve given plenty of examples of how to do this in past posts and it’s really an improvement based on giving players better information, something ANet still is struggling with in general. Regardless, it always comes back to attaining worth while goods, some of which can be achieved by adding more good types (weapons/armor/fancy fluffy bunny ears, etc.), the other is bringing rarer goods more in line, by making them less rare.
It’s a tough job, and having the economy so wide-spread makes it even harder. We all know minor tweaks to drop rates have been made, or they’ve added services that require large piles of goods to create a single item (i’m looking at you silk scraps). But it still needs a good deal of improvement. I personally don’t think we’d be having anymore of the flipper conversations if the economy and the balance of available goods were more in-line. But again, it’s a pretty big job and changes with every patch, especially when you get a flood of contributors to the market. Just look how long it took to get lodestones more in balance, to where you don’t see a post ever other day on how awful it is to obtain them.

Seems to me, The Gates of Maguuma – Open July 1st, means multiple. If not, you word it The Gate to Maguuma – Open July 1st. If Gates don’t open July 1st, then you can say something like The Gate to Maguuma – Begins July 1st. Wording has a lot to do with what one should expect.
Not true, when refering to a gate it is refered to has a set of gates even though it is just one single “gate”. This is because a gate has two doors, and in actuality each door is considered a gate. Take the gates of heaven/kitten, each place only has one SET of GATES.
For all we know the title isnt a title to be taken literally, it could be that that specific episode is called the gates of magumma because it is the first episode in the season that is bringing us into Magumma, thus the episode itself is the gates to magumma.
Agreed, Gate of madness however was one mission, with one entrance (why they called the server gates of madness, is beyond me). It’s silly to talk semantics, but how many double gates have you seen in this game? You simply cannot post ‘hey guys, Gates of Maguuma Open July 1st’ and not expect people to think “new zones”. I Agree too, that this forum is going to light up like a xmas tree on the fourth of July (fitting i guess) if people don’t get what they think they might get. ANet better get this right, it better be at least good enough to quell a good number of people that ‘believe’ zones are coming with patch, or there could very well be a mass exodus.
I’m extremely pessimistic and i seriously side with the fact we’ll prolly be repairing sign posts. But then again I really won’t be disappointed either way.
I’d say that’s about right for that setup, believe it or not. It also really depends on your Motherboard too. Is the video card in a 16x pci-e slot? What chipset is the motherboard? Are all your drivers up to date? Is your system (inside the case) clean and running cool. One of the worst things that will cause your machine to run slow is the temps are too high.
There is also one in the fort, along with an asura gate

Look, in advertising you have to be careful about your wording, I’m pretty sure ANet got that down better. You don’t say The Gates of Magumma Opens and then not add new zone(s). If it’s a flub you immediately clarify it. People are expecting new zone(s). Everything about the title indicates plural openings, why anyone would assume differently is beyond me. They can easily tell the story and open the zone(s) too, personal story is exactly an example of that.
I think they’ve only done one, maybe 2 early morning PDT patches. Typically it’s around 12 PDT, but it’s been as late a 4 or 5.
Just FYI, all armor sets bought from the store are free transmutations.
I’m confused about the format of the new content..I read what it says about the Journal and so on, and it’s as clear as mud
When they say Level 80, do they mean your character’s level, or your Personal Story level? They never actually specify which they mean. My main character is level 80, but my PS is only at about level 35 or so, as it’s the most mindnumbingly dull and tedious content I’ve ever come across in any game I have ever played, so I’m unlikely to progress it any further really. Will I need it to be able to access the Living Story episodes?
Looking at the behind the scenes video on twitch, the progress for the personal story looked to be around level 28ish. So i don’t think it’s you’re personal story that impacts the LS stuff.
Lol, ok yes maybe I was being a bit dramatic, I would be more than excited if I had a new map to explore. I guess I would be more disappointed at what I thought it meant if we did, I just want to see that they at least addressed some of the main complaints players had of season 1.
Also for what it’s worth, I was not part of the group that was disappointed with that last season. I felt it was a good story – considering it was the first season after all – I did not feel the story and scarlet as a villian was no where near as bad as players made it out to be. I mean yes it did need some work, but was for the most part real good, I also realize though that I am part of the minority on that one.
Ha no worries, i want it to be successful as much as anyone. I’m still really peeved over how much time and money i’ve spent on giving our server community a place to share info and work together, only to have it quashed by megaserver. Most players i know are pretty fed up with the change.
I still enjoy the game, and i do want S2 to be successful. But, if they start out with sign repair and chasing ghost without a real visible protagonist, i’m leaving and not looking back. Borderlands pre-sequel is coming out, then destiny. So i’ll have my hands full of goodies to play, then come back to GW2 at some later point, maybe. Which will likely hurt the server community we’ve built even more.
I too enjoyed parts of S1 and overall, looking back anet can still tell a decent story, but the delivery of S1 was painful.
I think you’re right about them at least revamping a portion of the map. The lower left corner had some map already added, you can’t get to it but it does unfog a portion of it directly south of Auroras demise. http://37.media.tumblr.com/e46c8bc422c7c1e102f2a7d970b075ad/tumblr_n6ltkbD9lT1tuzp8ho1_1280.png
Although i’m not sure how you (or anyone) would be disappointed if they added a new zone day 1.
There’s an event you can trigger where you draw him out and fight him.
I don’t see why you need to complicate it by having a separate vault. Just make it so you can otherwise destroy, sell those item types.
The Blizzard development team size for WoW as of 2009 was around 900 (excluding customer support and billing) anets size is tiny compared to blizzard and blizzard spitfires expansins BUT each expansion has still taken them a while to develop so a team of 350 vs a team of over 900… I have no clue why people try to compare the games
Where did you get these numbers?
You can probably google it.
I think what anet has released over the past 2 years is pretty substantial as well. But, i also think LS has held back some other things in the game that need attention too. WvW is in pretty bad shape from what i can tell.
“It’s a account wide, character independant storage chest that will hold ascended and legendary items.”
How is that locking them with low tier gear?
Ahh, still kinda pointless. I mean what about gems and gold?
..Which may or may not be granted and who knows when. With vault mechanic ingame a lot of that stress would be taken off both A-net’s shoulders and players themselves. Better to prevent then treat:)
I took 3 players i know less than 3 days to get their stuff back. I believe your system would cause more harm then good to your average player, i know if i level a toon i get to salvaging stuff that’s lower level. Basically, you’re locking the player into their gear, which becomes completely useless once used and you out-level it. The prevention is better protection of your account password.
Last i heard, anet employs a bit over 350 people, which is nothing to sneeze at. I actually think they had every intention (possibly before release) to add the new map(s) to brisban, given the portals have been there since beta. I believe it was said that it take 6+ months to develop a map. So in 2 years time, it’s quite feasible to expect at least a couple new maps in this release.
You know that nibling can request a one-time rollback to get his stuff? Basically, keep your account safe, change your password often on both your email account and your game login.
Both are my favorite classes to play currently. Mesmer more in PvP and Ele more in PvE.
I wish they put something like this as an option in the game: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10s4s6/combat_mode_11/
You’re making a drastic assumption that this isn’t something they’ve been working on for 2 years. I’m fully inclined to believe there are several projects running now that we will seem a year from now.
All the things you mention about PPT being necessary can be countered and would actually make WvW more dynamic and interesting. For example, turtling up could lead to the opposing server having access to powerful “take over events”, similar to siegerazor events. The longer a point is defended, the stronger the event gets. They could ad things like dolyak mounted cannons or carts that tote around siege.
Player deaths should also count to point contribution, making the blob bum rushing a really bad idea. Something needs to be done with WvW to balance out the mess it can be now.
Most people are taking a break it seems. If ANet at the very least, changed the conditions for victory, that would be a major deal. The PPT system is pretty blah for large battles. I really don’t think adding a new map is what WvW is lacking. It’s the stale zerg 2 win, karma train.
But in all fairness, no I dont think we will be getting a specific new map on the first patch. I would lose serious respect for Anet if we did, no good story gives you anything in the beginning other then teases. I fully expect a revamped wildland or at the very most a new small section added to wildlands that will lead to magumma like some are thinking. Really though, that wouldnt make much sense, just redesign the map.
Where would u place that new chunk of small section if you were anet? :P
No clue, I was not the one that stated that idea. I even specificlly said in the post what some others think. I even said that I myself see that as very unlikely and even more so unrealistic. A revamped wildlands is needed and very appropiate as a “new map” for this first patch.
Maybe you read it wrong? I meant where would you put what you said (in bold)? Do you see anet expanding brisbands borders or do you see them squishing in something somewhere already existed?
Neither, I only see them revamping the map in general. There are already 2 portals on 2 different borders that seem to obviously lead to 2 different new maps.
Really? So every indication they have revealed point to a new map (at least one, i’m betting more) makes you think they will just revamp brisbane? That seems not only disappointing, but extremely unlikely.
I feel kinda odd reading some of the feelings about GW. GW was a nightmare to balance and i really think ANet brought their A game when designing GW2’s combat system while minimizing the balancing drama. Unfortunately, the plague of most games in general, is the depth of the encounters, the AI and basically making “hard” bosses giant HP punching bags. I absolutely hate how all the trash in every dungeon is such a pain to kill, not because they are hard, but because they have an incredibly high health pool. But, really, making the AI smarter is a much bigger job than changing some numbers. I do wish they would adopt the combat mod that’s floating around, it would definitely improve this games combat mechanics. I loath tab targeting.
As for WvW and PvP, I’m really not sure where ANets love of conquest mode stems from. That’s really what hurting both game modes, good fights be kitten ed, let’s just hold this point, boring. HoH in GW at least had a secondary mechanic. I know they think it’s the best mode, but i really beg to differ. GvG in GW was fantastic. Sadly, WvW is just about bringing numbers for most servers and just follow the dorrito.
What’s really got my panties in a bunch is megaservers. And i’d bet the farm Anet did it because, well, China. That’s where GW2 jumped the shark for me, not some manifesto, blah blah. If you didn’t know “we don’t make grindy games” wasn’t marketing hype from the get go, i feel bad for ya.
They wouldn’t post a portal if there wasn’t a new map. It really depends more on what kind of map and how they integrate it into the game, also, how many new zones we might see. I think if it’s just one, there might be some disappointed people, 2 years is a long time to wait for only a couple new zones. After 2 years GW had an entire campaign added to it, not to mention SF and Tomb…
Screw the horses! Screw Dolyak mounts! I want spears!!!!
I want to ride in siege devours again
Yeah..it’s not really a baby dragon anymore.
They’re gonna need a bigger boat…
That is a good point. Her offspring must be gigantic right now, so it will never fit.
Unless it’s offspring that hatched later from an egg we do not know about yet.
Glint’s offspring could still be quite small. Glint wasn’t all that big herself. Also, how old do dragons live? It seems that Glint’s offspring would still be quite young.
There’s no evidence that says Glint’s child is large.
Based on the size it was in EotN, it’s too big to fit in even the largest of those boats. I seriously doubt they would be toting around a dragon they are trying to protect. Eggs maybe, 250 year old dragon, doubt it.
Although magic says, maybe they shrunk it to fit? They could go all sorts of ways with that.
I really want to say, i can almost guarantee a new race (cough Tengu). It’s just too popular a request to be ignored. However, when that might happen, that’s another story. I highly doubt this LS.
They may very well level you up for the initial release then make it a standard zone afterwards. Anets pretty keen on letting everyone at least have a shot at new content.
Since one of her offspring was in Elona, do we honestly think the Zephyrites have one? Do we even know if it’s under Kralkatorrik control? Could it be the Shatterer? So many questions.
They did travel the world. Also flying ships bubbles might not be blocking them
Actually i said elona which is wrong, sorry.
I’d find it really hard to believe they’d be carrying around a (most likely large) dragon. Glint did have a lot of eggs though, they might be toting some of those around.
Still makes me wonder if the Shatterer is one of glints offspring.
As I said in an earlier post. After a long discussion in the lore forum, the consensus is that the Shatterer is not one of glints off spring. If a dev wants to swoop in and tell me I’m wrong that would be great. But until then most people I’ve spoken to thing the Shatterer is just a construct, as it’s body is different to that of Glint, but the. This could just be a redesign. But with that’s said. With the speculation that went on I’m sure we’d know by now if the Shatterer was.
The model, you’re right, doesn’t fit. But, there was a child, so where is it? Well at least one we know of. Also curious as to who helped bring that child into being? Kralkatorrik? Not really possible as he was asleep. One thing i really wish anet would do is tie some of this lore together. I mean could Primordus, get a glint baby? He was one of the first elders to awaken… Maybe my lore is rusty and dragons are asexual and i’m totally missing that.
I’ve always thought of Glint as asexual. As the dev’s said back in Guild Wars 1 that Glint was a different dragon to Kuwalavang, or what ever his name was(the dragon in factions). Or they could be Kralkatorrik’s eggs. And Glint was guarding them but over time, wanted to turn them against Kralkatorrik? The speculation could go on for ever, so to stop my self from getting a bad head, I’ve decided Glint is asexual.
Thinking back on this, i remember a post on guru several years ago, so i dug it up.

The way our lore folks explained it to me was that the “lesser” (e.g. humans, charr, asura, etc.) races attribute gender to the dragons, because mortals like to categorize things. We put things into boxes to better understand them, and this includes attributing gender to forces of nature like the elder dragons. The dragons have no true gender, at least not as humans or char understand gender. However, mortals refer to most of the dragons with male pronouns.(Personally, I like the idea of referring to Kralkatorrik with female pronouns, but it’s not accurate to refer to Kralkatorrik as such.)
Interesting. So they are asexual. So the only question left is do the Zepherites have the eggs or a baby?
That wasn’t what was said. It’s also possible they’re hermaphroditic in much the same way as worms—they have both sets of reproductive organs, but tend toward (or are required to) mating with others and doubling the squirm pool. Or maybe they are asexual, but reproduce through “budding” like hydras or rolling up balls of draconic dung and offering up a benediction monthly until the internal magic-infused poo-center liquefies and forms stem cells. I think I like that origin better.
Well i don’t think the particulars matter so much. It could answer the question how Glint had offspring without a “mate”. Still the question of where that offspring is, and is it corrupted, maybe we’ll find out.

Pretty sure those crates were bombs, planted by someone. You mention that sylvari appearing multiple times, could be a clue

Ok just checked the wikki and there is only one of glints baby’s in Guild Wars that we know of, this is from the wikki;
Glint’s lair is filled with eggs — some of which the young heroes may attempt to steal during the bonus of The Dragon’s Lair, much to Glint’s annoyance — and by 1078 AE, at least one of these has hatched. The Destroyers seem determined to kill her offspring, and her loyal servants, the Dwarven Brotherhood of the Dragon, have come to its defence. There is no mention of a baby glint in Elona.
It was Eye of the North, in a challenge mission.
