Might be related to the bug that Entangle isn’t affected by the trait that reduces the cooldown of survival abilities by 20%.
There are a few pets I’ve tried and liked in WvW.
- Jungle Spider is good because it has a passive root and its f2 ability is also a root (should be a stun) they do really bad damage but if you need to stop someone, they are good for it.
- Devourers are ranged so they don’t die instantly, do decent damage, have a knockback and burrow evade. I suggest the Lashtail Devourer because its f2 skill is a direct damage dart.
- Cats do crazy crits which amounts to higher damage than nearly any other pet. Also cause vulnerability with their basic attack. I suggest the Lynx because its f2 ability is a leap + bleed.
- Birds have the same high crits as cats. However they are much smaller and don’t get targeted as often. I suggest either the Eagle for its bleed active, or the owl for its chill active. Keep in mind though birds have weird AI, they like to do loop de loops before attacking.
- Bears. Bears are actually very good pets. If you’re a glass cannon ranger, chances are you will need to use the “Protect Me” shout for survivability. Bears are better at taking damage than any other class, so Bears are your safest bet when using “Protect Me”
Drakes are unreliable, canines might have the best base stats but I don’t like them particularly. No other pet is noteworthy.
In my experience so far, I think I prefer the devourer the most. I keep the spider around also but I might switch it to something else. I’m thinking about a high toughness/vitality pet for “protect me” I think I might try bear.
Well unfortunately, since it’s 25%, you could technically salvage 1,000 times and not get a rare, since it’s 25/100 chance every time. It doesn’t add up the more you salvage, or make it more likely to get a rare.
To sum it up, it does indeed seem like you’re having an unlucky streak, but don’t be gambler! Don’t think “My luck HAS to change now!” and keep going at it if you think you shouldn’t! :P
25% drop chance will still average out to 25/100 drops. Drop chance never increases nor decreases by how many prior drops you have or haven’t gotten. If it has a 25% chance to drop that’s 25% chance every single time in every single percentage scenario ever, that’s how percentages work.
That being said, if the drop chance is truly 25%, the amount of rares he gets will average out to 25% eventually. Eventually.
I feel like the #3 skill needs work. “Revives your pet and calls them to your location”. First of all, if your pet is alive, even if it has 10% health, it will not be set to full health. Second, if the pet is not next to you, it won’t teleport to your side it will run to you, with the possibility of not making it in time or dying on the way because it ran through a ton of AoE.
I feel like the #3 ability should teleport your pet to your side at full health.
I’d like a rock dog too. Maybe a skale. There are too many beasts in this game that rangers should be able to tame.
Im also finding this annoying. Certain pets must be under certain conditions to use certain abilities at times, and sometimes they just dont use their ability and the global cooldown is started.
Birds must be in melee range to use theirs. Drakes have the absolute worst, they will either use the ability out of range or they will use it in the wrong direction or they will not use it at all.
I agree. The point of it is to leap back one free time with nothing stopping you. Any cripple instantly ruins this ability because you get a crippled rollback thats a fraction of the distance. Any root negates the ability completely.
Good guide but I have a few questions.
What utility do you see in Muddy Terrain compared to perhaps the benefit of a signet passive? Also I figure Rampage as One is superior to Entangle however I find Entangle to be very useful and extremely fun.
Do you find yourself using the greatsword #4 skill very often? I think it could use some improvement.
You suggest sigils air and blood. Going to try them, looking forward to seeing if they increase my damage at all.

I know! My ranger pet runs 3x farther than it should at times. And yet when I send it to attack a moving target it can’t catch up..
I have had this bug happen to me on a daily basis in large scale battles. Someone told me that they fixed it by disabling their Nvidia/AMD sound drivers which were overlapping their default drivers… or something like that. I use Realtek audio drivers so I disabled my AMD sound drivers. Haven’t played long enough to tell whether it fixed the problem or not.
Scratch that. Im still getting this error.

I did all 4 WvW maps yesterday. Eternal Battlegrounds gave me level 47 greens and 20 blackberries. The other 3 borderlands maps gave me level 26 greens and 40x of gold or copper ore.
