Imagine a WvWvW guild full of Tpvp players

It wouldn’t work out as well as you’d think. I mean top spvp players are generally better players so they’d do well overall but spvp builds are not viable in zerg combat. Some might have selfish 1v1 builds others might have bunker holding builds. WvW combat requires lots of large scale group support and when your build focuses on small combat battles you will fall apart in zerg clashes.

Pet Damage Formula found!

neoxide.7320

So do pets scale from the ranger’s power or the pet’s power? I’m stacking precision to proc signets but if my pet will hit harder from stacking power I’ll switch to full power.

If this is something that relates to pets’ static stats then there will be no reason to change builds but only change what pets you use if you want a certain damage output. That said, I think everyone knows birds hit the hardest but at a slower pace, and cats have the highest dps.

Signet Ranger Flaws

in Ranger

neoxide.7320

Signet ranger can be a pretty decent build but some of the signets lack any utility when paired with the Signet of the Beastmaster trait. Other signets have useless passive abilities.

Signet of the Hunt – The active is garbage. 50% more damage on next attack isn’t significant enough to activate the signet. Signet of the Wild increases damage by 25% for 8 seconds which is enough for ~5 attacks, making the damage buff more than twice as useful as Hunts. Not to mention Wild provides stability. Since the Hunt passive is so weak it serves no special purpose to signet rangers

Signet of the Wild – As stated the active for this signet is great. But the passive is kind of bad. While passive regeneration may be useful for beastmaster rangers, who gain traited healing, it isn’t viable for signet rangers who build around physical damage longbow builds. Additionally when Wild is active and the ranger is signet specced, they gain stability for the duration. However it appears bugged that enlarged rangers cannot interact with any objects or even ressurect/down players in PvP. Considering the very popular stealth and mistform finishing, it would make sense to let rangers use their signet stability to finish off players.

Signet of Stone – Great signet. It’s the only reason I’m still a signet ranger. Keeps me alive when I most need it.

Signet of Renewal – It’s decent. However it gives a signet ranger no benefit unless the signet ranger pulls conditions to itself which would defeat the purpose of its passive. Since most pets are melee and many times rangers are ranged, it makes no sense for the pets to consume conditions from nearby allies but not even its own master if the ranger is only a few hundred range away. A huge problem with rangers is that some pet skills have a limited range so the ranger must choose to keep their pet passive all the time, or to not use that skill.

Longbow is garbage at close range so just get within 1000 range of the ranger and you can out-damage him guaranteed. Longbow is a physical damage weapon and Rangers don’t have many build options so you shouldn’t have to worry about any other weapon being a huge threat in close range.

Just don’t run from the Ranger otherwise he will shoot you down.

It appears mag is trying to artificially boost Kain to rank 2 past Yaks. I say this because Mag has been attacking only Yak territory while ignoring Kain territory. So much so that Kain is pushing into Mag territory with zero resistance.
On Kain BL mag has skipped their own greenlake tower and went straight to take redbriar from Yaks. A little while later Mag is sitting on all Yaks territory in EB while ignoring Kain’s side of EB completely.

Yaks and Kain were tied this morning with 270 pts each tick and as of now Kain is at 230pts (Mag has to have SM) and Yaks is as low as 125 pts. Our populations are of comparable size but Mag is chewing up Yaks while propping up Kain.

We focus YB 100% of the time, obvs.

That screenshot is old, 3-4 days old. Just look at the points, this screenshot was taken when Mag had just gotten far ahead of the other two worlds, at the time when the southsun event started. So it’s no surprise that servers can take everything.

I’m talking about today, the last day before reset. Mag slammed Yaks this morning and virtually ignored Kain.

Take it from a maguuma commander; You need a new reason to justify your score. This isn’t picking on the weak guy.
To the rest of the guys in Yaks, keep bringing it, and don’t let this guy dictate how your server rolls.

I’m just saying it was a little too coincidental given the circumstances and kain losing ground to yaks but yaks losing all other ground to mag. If Yaks is pushing back Kain with ease, and Kain still has a ton of territory, I don’t see why Mag wouldn’t just swoop in and take it all.

Mag capped 60% of Yak territory in a few hours and didn’t even touch Kain territory during that time ._.

Not to tear open old wounds here, but I wanted to try an clear up some confusion about the Wär situation and the exit of Zero, as I think my exasperation with the concept of guild missions certainly did not help the situation.

Wär is and likely will always be a WvW focused guild, however once guild missions came out, those of us (basically me), realized there was some benefit to doing the missions, not just for the ascended gear, but for the one day when inevitably the Anet folks decided to add in something that took guild commendations that would benefit players in WvW.

Obviously getting anyone to participate was a chore, as most if not all of us found them dull and uninspired, and the vast majority of the guild didn’t even have world completion. Yet more of us would run them with other guilds, because you could get personal rewards repping any guild.

Since they came out, it has been nightmarish convincing people to come to do the missions, and those that do come get punished and spend even longer on them, because of those that choose not to do them, for perfectly legitimate reasons (like they are not really any fun).

I have continue to hold out that people will see the value in sacking an hourish a week on these to build up commendations for future use (banners/whatever new comes out), and to help attract players to the guild who may not like PVE, but like ascended gear.

Unfortunately, even with the return of some older members who were taking a break, and new influx members into the guild, the missions still continue to flouder with attendence, even with the support of some helpful folks from other guilds who run them with us and their normal guild.

Zero never really cared to do missions, and while that isn’t that big a deal to me, as I understand his dislike of them, it set an example that the officership of the guild (at least to some degree) didn’t support the missions. This punished the few of us trying to tow the line.

No reason to discuss the night he left in detail, but I would imagine tempers were high, and things were said/done that people likely would have rather taken back. The circumstances were not a unique situation though. Guild missions being a “requirement” are like mumble and full rep in WvW. You can only “require” so much of online people before a fun guild becomes a horrible dictatorship.

My personal frustration at trying to do these missions with so few people and with so little support I am sure contributed to what went down that evening, though I again wouldn’t have supported demotion (as it symbolically is offensive, and in reality is nearly meaningless).

Zero supported the guild and was a good all around commander and player as far as I could tell. I am not nearly as active as most, but I personally had no issue with him, as he support the guild with siege, money, and was a positive influence in bringing in folks from WvW.

In retrospect, I wish the systems in game allowed WvW players to ignore tedius PVE details (at least at a guild level). Saddly that is not the case now, and if the guild doesn’t come together for the tedium, it is hard to come together in WvW. I think if the guild missions represented a significant time investment I could have understood Zero’s position, but it just seemed so out of character to me that he chose to never participate.

I never intended that folks blow up on the forums over this event, and since I have been the honorary PVE coordinator since these darn missions came out, I accept a lot of the blame for what happened. The bad blood happens when people leave, and I am sure I will spike zero if I get the chance, but in reality, I do not think there is nearly as much bad blood as people believe. I am sure he will be happy with his new guild and I wish him the best.

Sorry so long, but never visit the necro forums if you had a hard time reading it all.

Yaks is getting better but the Mag alliance can put larger zergs on the field and appears to have better communication and inter-guild organization. Many times we’ve tried to ninja keeps and a Mag zerg 60-80 strong (depending on the time) has slammed into us. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re able to have at least 40 man guild zergs on all the maps, Yaks can only place 40+ zergs on 2 maps at a time without stretching thin and even with population the server alliance isn’t as developed.

I’m not sure what has happened to Kain they seem to be lacking population in crucial timezones while having a surplus of people at timezones when nobody is on.

Any time early in the morning until the afternoon could be considered since NA gamers stay up late. There’s also people who have jobs or school during this time. It may be 3PM EST but in the Oceanic region it’s 5 AM, Oceanic players have finished a long night of steamrolling empty maps and are headed to bed.

YB and Mag have little to no graveyard shift players so our keeps are nearly undefended at off-hours.

YB takes the lead initially, but we don’t have many players during the graveyard shift. DB seems to have a large population during off-hours and caps like 85% of the map for free.

I’m surprised they haven’t fixed the team unbalance issue. It really kills competition when one server has hundreds of players zerging and the other has dozens that gave up and are outmanned.

GS Ranger Theorycrafting

in Ranger

Posted by: neoxide.7320

neoxide.7320

So I’ve been theorycrafting a PvP GS build for my Ranger. I’ve chosen Longbow as my secondary weapon for two reasons; useful in WvW zerg warfare, and physical weapon as opposed to Shortbow which is condition damage.

I’m using full Berserker (glass cannon) and I rely on the GS and my traits as my defense. Bird pets as they are small, burst-crit consistently, and Raven + Owl have decent chill and blind application. I’ve found 30/10/30/0/0 is probably the best trait build for this but I’m still testing it.

Marksmanship: 30 in here for signet of beastmastery. Other traits chosen are signet cooldown and longbow range for obvious reasons.

Skirmishing: 10, Pets crit 30% harder. Again for my bird’s damage.

Wilderness Survival: 30 – Shared Anguish for periodical CC immunity, Wild Knowledge for CD reduction on survival skills, and Empathic Bond which I will explain in a moment.

I’m using Quickening Zephyr (still), Signet of Stone, Signet of Hunt, and Entangle. Now, I used to use Signet of Renewal instead of Hunt but I’ve decided Empathic Bond trait removes 3 conditions periodically. Also since the last patch Quickening Zephyr is a stun-break which means Signet of Renewal’s stunbreak is no longer valuable.

I have a survival cooldowns trait that lessens the CD on Quickening Zephyr and more importantly, Entangle. Signet of Stone benefits from the Signet Mastery trait and I basically gain 6 seconds of immunity to damage which counters other burst builds. Signet of the Hunt grants 25% movement speed to me and my pet, which means my pet can catch people easier and land more hits. Additionally SoH has an active +50% damage that lasts for 1 ability, pairs welll with Maul, that hits hardest after this latest patch.

So far I’ve been very successful against most people. I can usually outdamage faster than an enemy can break through my ability defenses.

Longbow fix idea

in Ranger

Posted by: neoxide.7320

neoxide.7320

Horrible idea. Rapid fire is one of our best abilities IMO. What we need is a damage buff to Barrage, a utility buff to Hunter’s Shot, and arrows that don’t obstruct.

Longbow damage actually isn’t that bad, it’s just half the arrows miss when you need them most – at long range. The buff to Barrage would put it on par with other AoE abilities and if Hunter’s Shot had a cripple or freeze or something similar it would make longbow kiting more doable.

Oh and lastly longbow speed is not as the tooltip says, if it were to match the tooltip speed it would be way better.

Thanks for the answers. I’ve seen half a dozen of the large and semi-large WvW guilds leave Sorrow’s Furnace because we don’t have any chance to win . I’m talking about [DRGN], [vVv], [ITM], and now [TG]. Really none of these guilds were a driving force for Sorrow’s Furnace, but they were all we had going for us. Now my own guild who frequents around 5 people in WvW together are planning on leaving. We’ve determined Sorrow’s Furnace is a dead world and what’s sad is it’s in the 3rd to lowest bracket which means there are at least 7 other worlds with equal or less activity than our world.

We’re not leaving because we want a world that wins. We’re leaving because we want a world that has a chance at winning and has more than 30 people in EB at peak.

How Does ANET Intend to Fix WvW Activity?

in WvW

Posted by: neoxide.7320

neoxide.7320

I come from a world in the third lowest bracket (6/8) and we haven’t seen a truly balanced match in 5-7 weeks. Out of the last 5 weeks, 4 of them we have been vastly outmanned by at least one other world and 1 of them we have been the ones outmanning the bracket below us.

Right now my world has less than 15 people on Eternal Battlegrounds. This can’t be healthy for competition when a third of the worlds to have such large population gaps.

Are there any plans to balance server populations, encourage migration to smaller worlds and reinvigorate competition in the near dead lower brackets?

2) Greatsword Crippling Throw can be used while moving, damage increased by 300-400% (Seems to do 1/5th of damage of warrior counterpart)

3) Pets can now hit moving targets, move 10% faster

4) Lightning Reflexes now grants 3 seconds of stability and removes all conditions to guarentee that the ranger “evades back” as stated within the tooltip

5) Signet of Renewal and “Protect Me” now work regardless of the distance between the ranger and its pet

6) Active effects of Signet of Renewal and Signet of the Hunt have been modified to better utilize the Signet of the Beastmaster trait

7) Longbow + Shortbow arrows now follow the target (obstructed fix)

8) Longbow Damage has been increased by 15% across the board

9) Barrage damage has been increased by 50%

10) “Guard” will also detect and reveal stealthed enemies within the targeted area. Guard’s radius has been increased by 300% to suit this change.

Karka battle: a grind or fun?

in The Lost Shores

Some parts were fun but the fun was ruined by the grind. My overflow was sick of farming waves of karka not even halfway through. We pulled our hair out when the wave event repeated itself further down the road.

However the parts where you load geysers with rocks, trigger a landslide, and open the volcanic holes was fun. The final battle wasn’t half bad either.

If the grindy parts took a third of the time, it would have been a pretty decent event.

Lost Shores: Creating Winners vs. Losers

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: neoxide.7320

neoxide.7320

I don’t like the notion that everyone should be a winner. This attitude is a real issue with people these days because in the real world, not everyone is a winner.

You see, this is a game though.

It is understood, by anyone that is maybe 12 years old that life isn’t fair. Some people are born beautiful and get handed everything to them. Some people are born into terrible situations. We could go on all day about how and why life isn’t fair…

But games…games are escapism. Studies show that people play games mostly to take a break from their real life. Whatever their real life is, everyone has issues and games are a break from that.

That’s why people always want games to be fair, they want competitive balance. Life isn’t fair, but games should be. The main reason so many people gravitated towards this game was to break from the old MMO mold that the dedicated and hardcore were and always would be the winner, they would get the most out of the game…those that have things to do in RL…well when it comes to MMOs are usually the losers.

Now, this one time event wasn’t for the dedicated hardcore…but it was based on luck, no matter where you are or your timezone. It asked you to drop whatever you were doing in RL to play a videogame. I just have a problem with it, I live in America, central time and I usually play the game at around 7, 5pm pacific time. This is not by ‘Choice’.

I just think they should have at least done a one day 24 hour event. One day 24 hour event where you can only open the chest once account wise. Apparently I missed a pretty awesome event…and I guess if they continue to do events like this I should just not play because there is a good chance that I’m going to miss most of the story and big stuff that happens in the game.

TL;DR except the first line. This is a game however it is a good example of a crucial problem with some of society of how some people will not accept anything less than what others got, in some cases earned, in other cases given.

My point is that ANET should not cave in to the people complaining that they deserve things because others achieved them. At first the excuse was that precursors were simply too expensive and unrealistic to acquire which can be debated. Now that ANET has made them significantly easier to acquire and virtually given them away to a lucky fifth of the people who showed up, there are people now demanding to be given precursors to everyone, or no one at all (but really everyone because I want one plzzz).

It’s a shame.

Addressing Important Issues

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: neoxide.7320

neoxide.7320

I made it to the 1 time event but all I got was a regular exotic or precursor worth <50g. ANET I demand you give me a dusk. You can’t do this. You can’t choose winners and losers. Everyone is supposed to be a winner and everyone should have a fair chance to be given the same prize, no, precursor* that a few people were lucky enough to get.

I am complaining because even though precursors were made significantly cheaper to acquire through gold, slightly easier to acquire through forging, and basically given out to 20% of the population in a one-time event that was clearly scheduled and advertised as so, I am entitled to a precursor of my choosing, 500 gold, and a trophy that says I’m a winner.

You owe me, I got to level 80 all by myself. /s

Longbow – Seeking arrows like thief bow to stop obstruction bug, barrage given a damage buff

Greatsword – Damage buff across the board

Signet of Stone – Something better than 40 passive toughness

Signet of Renewal – The active ability does no benefit from improved signet trait, active also doesn’t work if your pet is far away

Lightning Reflexes – Should remove all CC and send you back rolling every time (currently this ability is completely nullified by roots)

Personally glass cannon with defensive traits, surival and signet skills. LB + GS in full berserker. Skills I use are QZ, traited Signet of Stone, traited Signet of Renewal, and Entangle.

30/15/20/0/5 – 30 for improved signets + signet cooldown + longbow range, 15 for passive crit + crit dmg + pet crit dmg, 20 for shared anguish + wilderness knowledge, and 5 for quickness on pet swap. Pet choice is owl/raven.

Build is focused on high burst, high damage. I have only temporary survivability but it’s usually lasts long enough to kill other high damage classes.

God, no wonder a lot of you think rangers broken, a weapon “isn’t good” according to you unless it does tons of damage, I personally did a back flip of joy because my main weapon just skyrocketed in awesome!!

Lol that is the definition of good. Sorry, the rest of us can’t kill that thief backstabbing us for 4k a hit with “awesome!!”

To be fair though, I crit 3k with my longbow at full range in glass cannon gear when it doesn’t get obstructed error. Thieves having an instant point blank heavy crit with
guarentee to land from stealth along with no ranged penalty is totally fair.

Transmuted legendaries not buffed?

They’ve said transmuting a legendary onto an exotic will remain legendary. They haven’t implemented the fix for it yet but they’re working on it.

This leads me to assume that transmuting your legendary onto an exotic will also ascend the stats of the exotic.

Dawn drop in gold price?

Precursors are expected to plummet in trade value after this next update. People saying value degrades over time are generally correct, however the value of precursors has not degraded whatsoever. They will not drop in price because less people are buying them, they will drop in price because ANET is making them easier to aquire.

Although this is all based on speculation that the update will make precursors easier to get. That has not yet been proven whether the changes will make it easier but chances are it will damage the trade value.

In short, sell your precursor now and wait until the update to pick up another.

3800 Gold Lemon?!?!?!

Its a serious exploit as it can ruin the market on the brokenness of orders. As prices are directly affected by buy orders only.

This is getting out of hand.

First we had orders of 1 copper or any amount below merchant price to devalue all items and prevent sales. This was done by botters/hackers.

The same holds true for the 3800 g lemon, its an exploit or is a hack being used to mess up the TP. Granted, it can’t be bought or sold yet…

Anet needs to find security holes in their game to stop this nonsense.

It’s not an exploit nor is it a hack nor is it a bot. You probably don’t understand the situation because you’re describing something that doesn’t exist.

Basically this player is just posting an offer for an item which can’t be traded since it’s account bound. Nobody can accept his offer because it’s not tradable thus the wealthy player can offer all of his gold. Since valued list is categorized by offer value, you can send any untradable item to the top of the list if you offer more than what’s currently on the list.

Only thing remotely fishy about this ordeal is that some guy has 3800g to throw around. It’s possible to obtain that much gold but takes a lot of observation, timing, and repeated luck.

How do you explain the orders below merchant value then? We can no longer do that and yet that still persists!

I’m not even talking about that. I’m addressing what you’re saying about the 3800g lemon.

I don’t know anything about the other issue you mentioned.

What time will The Lost Shore items be available?

in The Lost Shores

Tried reading the event page?
“Begins November 16 at 12:00 PM PST (9:00 PM CET)
A spectacular one-time world event! Unravel a mystery of epic proportions in The Lost Shores, a storyline that begins at 12:00 PM PST (9:00 PM CET) on November 16.”

There will be 2 costumes coming out, each costing 800 gems, and a set of 4 mini’s, 3 from the gemstore and 1 from throwing those 3 into the Mystic Forge, just like halloween.

Furthermore they will add a “power trader” consumable to the store, costing 250gems. With this item you can sell 4 stacks of the same item, without it you will be limited to 1 stack per day.

Legendary precursors will also be sold for 2000 gems each.

False. IDK where you hear these rumors but they’re all poorly made assumptions by uninformed people.
