What I’m hoping for;

- GS becoming a viable PvP weapon (such as improving damage scaling and making 1 GS ability potentially hit hard like hundred blades, kill shot, backstab, heartseeker)
- Pet AI improvements
- Better longbow utility
- Fixes to arrow obstruction
- Improving the active effects of all signets so that they can all benefit a Ranger which has specialized in Signet of the Beastmaster (Signet of Renewel/Signet of Hunt)
- Spirits will be invincible for their duration OR have significantly buffed effects
- Traps buffed
- Shouts either replaced or revised
- Lightning Reflexes becoming an all-around CC break + backwards dodge
- Improvements to downed state “lick wounds” which will set your pet to full health AND teleport them to your side

Is It Possible To Create Precursors By Forging Random Level 80 Weapon Types?

I know it’s possible to create precursors by throwing like weapon types into the Mystic Forge and the quality of those 4 items increases the output chance. However, I was wondering if it was equally possible to forge precursors by throwing in any random items? Such as a torch, a trident, a sword and a dagger (or any 4 completely random combinations).

I’ve forged randoms thousands of times and I’ve gotten all kinds of exotics in the past in but the only time i’ve ever been lucky enough to get a precursor was when I threw 4 shields in and got out The Chosen.

Do you think it’s possible? And does throwing random weapon types in reduce or increase the chances of getting any type of precursor compared to throwing in only one type of weapon and hoping to get that single type of precursor?

I can confirm. While running around the marketplace in Rata Sum, I’ve noticed that my Asura’s head occasionally shrinks into his torso. This happens when triggering either the walk forward or walk backward animation.

I can confirm the path 1 bug where you enter the room before collecting 5 scepter pieces. It happened to me only one time and I’ve run path 1 about 4 times total.

Another bug is the graveling burrows “miss” with melee weapons if you stand still, and projectiles such as throwing axes or arrows get “obstructed” more than half of the time. This makes it impossible for certain weapon combo’s to kill burrows in paths 1 and 3. Not to mention when you kill a graveling burrow, it teleports your character to some random are next to the burrow which disorients you completely and once even teleported me through a closed door.

Dunno how projected profit works since I usually ignore it, however there is a 5% listing tax and a 10% transaction tax. So 15% total for posting and selling an item.

SF doesn’t have a massive population, we just have more than AR and BP do. We got knocked down to this bracket specifically because we lack population compared to the worlds above us.

Endgame Ranger PVE Help Please!

I’m really unsure what a ranger PvE build would be as well. I stack berserker gear and hang out wayyy in the background and spam with my longbow. I probably do more damage than anyone else, just don’t ask me to revive you if you’re in melee range.

Longbow range is so far that you end up avoiding boss mechanics most of the time.

Quickness Nerf intended or not?

Longbow speed is the same with quickness after the update. Longbow + quickness shoots at the same speed as the current shortbow passive speed, meaning shortbow shoots twice as fast as longbow passively.

I think it was an intended nerf. SB was our strongest weapon, some thought too strong. All of our other weapons suck in general so 90% of rangers went SB and that’s why there’s so much QQ today.

Longbow ranger here. QZ makes up for kitteny weapons being kitteny. But it makes decent weapons OP.

Who is the best "commander" on your server?

On Sorrow’s Furnace we have a variety of commanders. Some are rich kids who bought their title with gems and have virtually no WvW experience, some don’t even talk and just follow the zerg. The largest group is the “FOLLOW ME IM COMMANDAR” group that as you can see, types in caps and directs a zerg. Then we have the elusive PvE commander who simply bought the title so you can see him on your map.

I will say the best I’ve seen so far on Sorrow’s Furnace is Commander Lord Doomhammer. He leads a WvW guild so he brings his own group with him and performs his own operations independently. His group stays organized and gets the job done most of the time.

I haven't been able to join a WvW game in over a week now...

The bottom half of the worlds have almost no queue. Move off the top world if you have a problem with queues. Everyone wants to play on those worlds because they win. Meanwhile half a dozen worlds lose every time just because they don’t have enough people to fill up EB let alone borderlands are virtually empty.

I’m calling it now, Sorrow’s Furnace is going to win. To my knowledge, we have a much larger population than Anvil Rock and Borlis Pass. Not to mention we defeated Darkhaven despite their demoralizing nightcapping affair.

I’m a SF player, and from my current perspective, I assume we will dominate from sheer numbers just as we have been dominated by sheer numbers in the slightly higher brackets.

Simple fix. Transfer to a world with little to no queues. Everyone wants to play on the top worlds and complains about the queues. The bottom bracket worlds are doomed to continuous losses because they don’t even have enough players to support themselves.

GS is a HORRIBLE weapon in PvP. The only reason I use a GS in PvP is because it’s an incredibly fun weapon to use. The gap closer is really useful in WvW where you must cover long distances. But the damage? It’s pretty bad.

Doubt it. Yesterday (oct 9th) I was lucky enough to get the shield precursor when throwing in some random rares I’d gotten while working on my explorer achievement.

First of all a Ranger is not a master of range just because it has ‘range’ in its name. Maybe if our class was called Archer you could argue that.

I will admit warriors are like more resilient, harder hitting, rangers without an annoying NPC pet weighing them down but I feel like rangers are complaining about shortbows too much. Every time a damage build comes up, shortbow is the only real option. So the vast majority of rangers take advantage of shortbow and when ANet nerfs it, everyone freaks out.

I agree ranger weapons are kitten for the most part, but shortbow was by far the best and everyone bandwagonned over to shortbow. We should be pressing them to buff the kitteny weapons not crying when they nerf the only strong one.

So there is NO OTHER spec you can rock in pvp?

So it looks like you started making a list of weapon viability, then when you got to shortbow gave up on the list and turned the post into another shortbow QQ thread. Most weapons for ranger are crap. Everyone flocked to shortbow because it was the closest thing to OP a ranger could get, and now all the bandwagon players are crying.

Meanwhile practically every other weapon is a complete joke. I want them to buff other weapons, not the short bow.

If you could swap your ranger for any other class, would you?

SF has fallen behind and unless the tides shift dramatically, we will not be able to catch up. We simply do not have the population to defend against EBay and GoM. Both Ebay’s and GoM’s peak populations are at different times and they both flatten the maps when their peak time comes. SF’s peak time is about equal to an average non-peak team of the other worlds. Other than the occasional lead we take during our peak, we can muster up 1 good sized group and only focus on 1 map at a time.

We get some great fights in but I wish our world had more people so we could actually compete and have a sense of tension. Right now it feels like we fell out of the match.

I agree stealth is too powerful in its current state. Some reasonable changes would be

A) Makes stealth break on damage as you said

or

B) Make numbers show up when hitting a stealthed player, so if we’re swinging blindly at least we know if we hit the stealthed player

and finally optimize game rendering because in its current state, becoming visible has a lag, thus prolonging the duration of the stealth ability.

Thief here, I think the solution is quite obvious; Don’t get killed by thieves.

We’re definitely not OP. We’re just a really good niche class for killing people who don’t know how to not die to thieves. Against people who simply don’t die to thieves, we aren’t OP at all.

So learn to play, learn to not get killed by thieves, and then utilize not getting killed by thieves. All you have to do to beat thieves is not lose, simple as that. You all complaining need to get some skills because thief takes a lot of skill to hit hard with, especially pistol whip, heart seeker, and backstab builds, those builds are the hardest to play in GW2.

I never played any class except thief but I already know that thief takes the most skill to play so I should be allowed to hit hard and if you don’t even have enough skill to not die from thieves then you deserve to die to my superior skill.

Nah, Catapults do more damage towards siege and they knockback as well. Arrow carts probably couldn’t destroy a ram in time.

On topic; I think this is necessary. All AoE goes through the door, and so do mesmer clones. Mesmer clones also can climb walls and destroy siege anywhere on a wall, by the way. However the difference is that the catapult’s AoE range is so large, it will damage anything standing up against the wall.

There are US players on all worlds all the time and EU has worlds separated by language correct? US is by no means balanced though, we have some issues with sub-oceanic worlds nightcapping but it’s not too bad. The top US worlds are full all day every day so they always have someone in WvW.

From the queue stats ANet released from 2 weeks ago, EBay has the largest WvW population followed by GoM having a slight larger population than SF. From the first day so far, EBay has the largest population overnight and SF and GoM seem to surge back and forth in the morning and afernoon. At night (peak) the worlds are all fairly equal.

I’ve stopped getting that bug a long time ago. However I have a new audio bug where a certain sound effect sounds incredibly louder than any other sound the game makes. In this case I was able to narrow the sound down to a necromancer’s minion had incredibly loud footsteps.

The Rich Orichalcum Vein on SF/EB/GoM EB jumping puzzle acts as a normal Orichalcum Vein. I only have experience from two prior WvW matches to know that a Rich Orichalcum Vein normally acts as a Rich Mithril Vein and allows the player to mine it 4-5 times allowing them to get 15-20 orichalcum ore.

Just today, the Rich Orichalcum vein gave only 4 ore (including a double ore proc). This is a huge disappointment but I figure it’s related to the respawn issues of some Orichalcum nodes that has appeared in the latest patch.

on SF borderlands (I’m SF) we took EH keep, then EBay took it back from us. But before they capped we brought reinforcements and wiped them. There were about 30 of us at the throneroom doorway and less than 10 EBay invaders inside the room. 5 seconds more and we would have wiped them completely but they capped the keep and the keep lord respawned with an invincibility buff with a 3m duration. Needless to say he 1shot us all and it sucks we couldn’t save our keep. :/

The best you can do afaik is 70 per dolyak if the supply camps are upgraded for increase supply.

Dolyaks bring much larger amounts of supply to keeps. It’s 70 supply for towers and 140 for keeps.

Disagree with orbs and nightcapping. Don’t have a stance on the 3rd one. Orbs and nightcapping throw off the balance for some worlds, and really just ruin WvW. I’d just like to see some balance to keep things competitive and not give the winning world unstoppable momentum while crushing the morale of the losing worlds.

My world has gone from a mid-rank competitive world to a low-rank world where WvW is dead most of the day and people on my world would rather camp jumping puzzles than compete with our opponents.

Low end servers are dying

I agree. This past week WvW is almost completely empty. There are probably 100 players total across all 4 maps on my world. Before, we could fill up the player limit and hold a 100 player queue for hours.

My world is definitely not what it used to be. And I think the design flaws in WvW are really demoralizing the player base on the losing end, and encouraging band-wagon jumping.

I kill 2 people and loot a few vendor trash spikes. Then I get killed, and it costs more to repair my armor from dying once than what I got from killing two people. Now, I didn’t do events and a lot of money comes from that, but isolated world PvP is where you will die and it’s not profitable to kill players unless you’re behind a cannon or ballista.

I usually get an honor token or two in 1 out of 3 bags that drop. Maybe 1 out of 4. The rest of the time it’s gray items worth 12c a piece and the occasional blue. With an honest day of WvW I might just get enough greens to put into my portable mystic forge.

I remember the days when a few hours of WvW would fill your bags like you were leveling PvE. But those days are long gone. Now the vast majority of money is from completing events and the majority of tokens is from jumping puzzles if you chose to do them.

OP makes a good point after all, are classes able to spam/rely on a single ability to win fights? Can a skill be used in a way that will end up successful even if the player is no good at PvPing without using that skill? If so, should that be considered broken?

I will say yes. Good warriors and thieves don’t use 100b, PW, HS spam but a lot of not-so-good ones do and they’re more than successful against players of equal or greater skill.

There are a lot of elitists who expect players to avoid everything, because it is possible to avoid all of these facerolled abilities. However that does not make them any less overpowered and for the sake of balance people should not be criticized for pointing out overpowered skills.

Lol. Pets only attack an enemy if

A) you attacked the ranger/pet first

or

B) the ranger targeted you and told their pet to attack you

Stealth actually breaks the pet AI since the pet drops target and the ranger must manually tell its pet to keep attacking a thief or mesmer etc. slipping in and out of stealth. That also gives you the chance to get so many opening blows on the ranger since the pet won’t attack you until you hit the ranger while out of stealth.

WvW is really empty today. On SF we have like 1 good sized zerg going and capping stuff and Rall has a good sized zerg doing the same. We just ran through EB completely and capped some towers on all sides of the field and the map is almost completely empty. WvW feels nothing like it did in the opening week, I’m wondering what ANet will do to balance populations.

The pet would be manageable if the AI wasn’t horrible. I can’t rely on my pet do hit anything that isn’t stunned or rooted. I want to get the speed boost just to see if it will allow my pet to do damage more often but I heard it’s bugged to be half as effective as the tooltip states.

I’ve come across a large problem with pet AI. Whenever a target is stealthed, the pets not only lose target but lose all reason to attack the enemy player after the enemy player leaves stealth.

As a ranger, pets are a large portion of our damage but they are useless in situations that require precise movements and timing. Pets don’t have any sense of movement, they are designed to hit a target that stands still.

Not only that but a thief that times their stealth skills correctly can completely avoid any damage from the pet. Pets lack responsiveness, they have short pauses before attacking anything.

If one player stealths, he can hit me for free while within stealth. That’s fine but my pet becomes completely useless for that duration. When he leaves stealth he still can get the first few nonstealth hits on me before my pet realizes he’s attacking me and comes to my defense. Add in the time it takes for my pet to respond that he’s an enemy, the time it takes for my pet to run/fly over to him, and the time it takes for my pet to do a fancy animation before actually attacking (granted the enemy is standing relatively still) and we have a method of trumping the pet AI system completely.

Our pets need to react to danger a little faster, they should instantly attack a target when they come within melee range, and if a thief attacks you while in stealth, the pet should be able to attack that thief just like i would swing my sword at an invisible thief if I knew their location.

I hate to say it but rangers are weighed down by our pets, at least in PvP. If you tacked on the extra damage and health of the pet onto the ranger, we would be way more viable.
