Capes... Again

Those spike and open wing backpacks that a number of players are running around with look stupid. Around popular merchants, bank and BL NPCs you can’t see anything because of those sticking out all over the place. At least with capes they just drape down instead of sticking out blinding other player’s view when the players are tightly grouped together. I wish there was a way to hide those awful things from my view.

“But I spent my jewels to make my character look cool, and I think I deserve that everyone sees it too.”

The amount of edgelords running around with face hiding hoods, black armor and those wings is amusing.

I really don’t find it to be too much effort to right click and salvage all. You do need the copper o-matic though.

If you’re having trouble with the crappy runes and can’t afford a vendor contract or tarktun vendor, then consider investing in a portable Mystic forge node. They are pretty cheap, only like 50g from memory. They gobble up all those worthless runes just fine.

Inventory management is a dynamic of the game. It’s a small, but not insignificant part of the economy through raw gold generation. TP doesn’t generate gold, buying gold with gems doesn’t either contrary to popular belief, vendoring does.

Even with the Forge Conduit, or Portable Vendor or whatever, the runes are frickin’ annoying, you need at least two clicks to get rid of each one of them, be it via forge, or selling, or throwing it away.

They are still as inconvenient and click heavy as the old salvage proccess.

The content is not exclusive, if one has HoT he can do it, there is an easy event that will unlock the mastery track that people mentioned here multiple times, now if people aren’t willing to play through it just once it’s their own problem.

Just like if you want a legendary you play WvW for a Gift of Battle, there is no way around it.

That’s more observational than quantifiable. I can state the opposite but that wouldn’t make it true.

Agreed that my numbers are only my own and by provable i mean if you sat down and documented it the results (based on my experience) would show a decrease.

That would be a hypothesis. Experiences are rarely reliable but they often lead one to conduct tests to verify whether it is true or not.

Those of you who seem to have made it your personal crusade to deny any mention of the subject will continue to flood these threads and try to make it seem like we’re all wearing tinfoil hats. This is the joy of GW2 forums.

Well the thing is that nobody has offered any evidence that the salvage rate has been changed and is what is impacting the current price trend. We have had people make claims before based on their experience which turned out to be wrong. Ectos always seem to be one that gets claimed to have changed with only one instance turning out to be true and people actually verified it.

You could state the opposite and it most certainly would not be true.

Use a medium armour wearing character (which should give you the most chance of obtaining leather items to salvage) – open a 250 stacks of loot bags – salvage all armour and weps – and I can guarantee you that you will have more silk than leather.

I know because I have done it a several times recently, others clearly are seeing the same thing – Anet stated they changed things when they made the adjustments to improve silk drops last year.

Except it’s in the person making the claim to back it up otherwise I can say that Pluto is inhabited by Quaggan and anyone that disagrees I can just tell to prove me wrong. To out it in another way, someone comes into the forums claiming that the ecto rate is half of what it was the day before. It would be on that player to prove their case and not everyone else to prove them wrong.

Opening 250 stacks has hardly been done and documented. If it has then point me to the source. Otherwise, all you’re doing is making a hypothetical claim. You’ve opened 250 stacks of loot bags several times recently? That’s quite a lot and I’m thinking that you’re greatly exaggerating that number. One of the main reasons why someone’s experience cannot be relied on. If you mean a stack then that sample size is way too small.

There is this one:

They decreased the salvage rate, added more materials required to refining squares, added leather to the patches recipes and introduced sinks (ascended gear, guild halls.)

No, the market won’t fix itself in the case of leather, it’s a requirement to anyone wanting to make ascended gear and exotics that aren’t obtainable via dungeons and those are things needed by almost every player that doesn’t want to be a scrub forever, and the drop rates are egregious and unreliable. It’s not a guild hall node or a few WvW nodes that will solve this issue.

a supply from 240k to 500k means 5200 multilooters offered their ectos from a single tarir multi loot run

260k/50 = 5200
across a few days that is easily possible considering the amount of people doing tarir multi loot

No, it means hoarders that bought a ton of ectos predicting that aNet would do something about fixing the multiloot and the ecto prices would rise got rekt. Now they are trying to salvage some money out of it.

Let’s be realistic here, people who had enough patience to get all mastery points from all the other contents by strongboxes/insights,, doing adventures and other achievements not willing to do a 15 minute event (that only fails if people have no idea of what they are doing and comp doesn’t really matter as long as you have two healers) to open the raid masteries makes no sense.

Or perhaps it tells you how much raids are really popular, if even people that were able to max all the other masteries so dislike them.

By the way, i feel that not requiring any masteries in order to start again obtaining past-80 xp levelup rewards would be perfectly fine, and would be way better than just singling out specifically raid masteries.

Just social anxiety, the same reason people are asking in another thread to nerf Hero Points, people apparently are affraid of interacting with other players in this game, even if for short amounts of time for easy tasks.

And maybe, I have zero interest in completing the Nuhoch mastery line so I would like the shards without having to do it, but I’m still getting the mastery points to complete it because there is no way around it.

Will Class balance be anytime soon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nsleep.7839

nsleep.7839

It already exists. It’s called Perfect Imbalance. Its ever-changing effects helps keep the game interesting.

~EW

You should be a politician.

Or, actually, you shouldn’t – we really don’t need any more of that type of whataboutery.

Imbalance isn’t “interesting”, it’s just bad design.

If everything is equally good at everything, then why would there be classes in the first place?

on second thought, a complete freedom of style like in elder scrolls games would also be cool. Starting without a ‘class’ and ‘armor weight’ and then specialize in whichever way you want

Because there will always be a “Most optimal Path”, as Elder Scrolls demonstrates.

The game is imbalanced because it’s impossible to properly balance due to just how many factors there are in play.

Just this. The moment you decide to split the mechanics of different classes into unique aspects balance is already a pipe dream because of all the possible interactions and not enough universal mechanics (such as dodge, to list an example) to give all classes a more solid ground to work with.

My opinion about MMO balance is that imbalance is fine as long as the classes have at least a niche role use that only they can do, so there will always be a reason to take in a party for some specific tasks. Multiple overlapping roles or jack-of-all-trades are bad design and either ends up being underpowered or overpowered for some.

The solutionfor catas is pretty simple, make the catas take splash from their own shots. That should solve things regarding this particular piece of siege.

Now the walls… No ideas, being on top of them is asking for being nuked by meteors and other stuff, you cannot shoot down without taking even more crap while the person on top cannot retaliate because “Obstructed” or " No Line of Sight".

For the defenders, the best bet is to use ACs and disablers to stall while a zerg large enough arrives to fight the attackers back. There isn’t much hope of holding something without reinforcements because the supply of the defenders will usually be spent faster than the attackers as they can just hump walls to protect their siege.

I think this feature would work well in raids or even PvP, but the moment you use this in a large scale fight it becomes HUD chaos. I do agree that it would be a nice optional feature to have for support/healers but also for other dps characters that can save an ally.

It isn’t nearly as intrusive as the name tags that are forced on the top of the player heads when in a PvE party/squad, the bars are small but noticeable enough, you can check how it looks like in WvW (I would post a screenshot myself but I’m not on my computer atm) I have no kittening idea why this isn’t the default in other game modes already.

From vanilla world bosses the only ones that can be challenging when the zerg reach enough numbers are the Triple Trouble wurms, Tequatl and Shatterer only require coordination when the numbers aren’t too high, and not by much, just the people operating the siege weaponry need to be aware of what they are doing as the weapons are integral part of those fights now.

For the other bosses, the ones from starting areas can stay as they are as they are teaching basic mechanics, but I would like to see Taidha Covingtom, Golem Mark II, Mdoniir Ulgoth and Claw of Jormag reworked, specially the Claw of Jormag as it is a dragon from an “end game” area. Ascended gear/weapon: worth it?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: nsleep.7839

nsleep.7839

You don’t really need them, except for high level fractals.

Ascended weapons are about 5% more damage dealt as they have higher stats and base damage values, and trinkets are a good boost compared to their exotic counterparts, you can also buy rings with Perfect Fractal Relics and accessories with Guild Commendations if you want to save your Laurels.

Armor boost is pretty small, so they are not really required for anything but high level fractals as you will need those infusion slots for additional agony resistance.

Overall, the boost from weapons and trinkets might be noticeable so I think they are worth, but not needed.

Are Builds Broken?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nsleep.7839

nsleep.7839

Let this sink deeply into your mind:

There is no game with asymmetrical design for different classes/races/characters/vehicles/whatever that is actually balanced. Given enough time players will figure what beats what and which components are better overall in most scenarions, who want to be optimal with their gameplay will drift towards optimal builds to get better results, sometimes even at the expense of fun.

It doesn’t matter if Anet overhaul all the classes tomorrow, given a few weeks people will have figured out which options are better for each situation and those builds will be top tier in the new metagame.

With all that said, I think there is enough variety as it is. Talking about only top tier builds, there are different game modes which require different builds, some of these game modes have variety and adjustments inside their own meta, the build changes depending on whether you’re playing solo or in group and on the composition of your group.

Putting top tier builds aside, there are still viable or cheesy options that you can play around and still have fun regardless and sometimes those don’t perform too much bellow the current top tier builds if you’re willing to give 10~15% damage away for some survivability or something else…

2 gold for dailies-- did it work?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nsleep.7839

This games economy was designed from the very start all those years ago to be broken and unfixable without the entire thing being taken down and all the items removed from the cash shop and recreated.

It was seen at the start of the game and nothing can be done without a complete overhau or rather a simple change.

The Auction House system is were the fault lies in this game because unlike the system that works in every other game Anet decided to change what wasn’t broken at all. There is no 12h, 24h, or 48h auction limits the whole point of an auction is that it isn’t eternal your buying time to try and sell your goods and in Gw2 once the listing price is paid that item stays up for an eternity people who have literally quit the game ages ago still have items on the auction house. Items which are set to the highest points of inflation the economy in this game doesn’t breath it’s not free and isn’t a real economy.

It will never right itself and the inflation will never stop until the missing basic function of every auction house real or otherwise is added to this game. That being your auction can actually fail to sell thus mailing the items back to you.

Oh! Because this really prevented inflation in all these other games. /s

What I don’t like is that there is no safe direct trade system, everything must go through the TP and the thousands of bots in there, but that’s a discussion for another topic.

Gear Grind and Gear Bloat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nsleep.7839

nsleep.7839

Agreed. Inherently the meta game isn’t a bad thing.

While the obvious approaches are there in PvE as the content doesn’t actually change every time you play it and to a certain extent in sPvP, the modes that allow player combat allow cheese builds, and cheese is effective against “standard” builds, but weak against safer builds. And while there are some top tier builds that perform better overall and are optimized for most situations, you can play around with some variation that isn’t cheese but also isn’t optimal, those aren’t bad, maybe not even regular, but people only care about what is top tier and this is a problem with the players, not with the system.

So, taking these other builds into account I think the stats spreads you can use from gear allows for a much larger variety, more noticeable on WvW and for most of PvE that isn’t high end or seeking for optimal times, mostly because you can mix different stats from different sources to get something unique opposed to the limited PvP amulets. Playing a top tier builds and classes is optional, there are good builds outside of the popular metabattle builds, those might not be the best yet they are far from inviable.

But I kinda agree with runes, some aren’t good but they are cheaper versions of something (Runes of the Centaur vs Runes of the Pack, if you want the Swiftness Duration and Power for example), while others are borderline useless and I don’t see the point of them being into the game.

About Ascended gear, weapons aren’t that hard to get, you can get some from the HoT collections and change stats if need, those come cheaper than leveling a craft and making one and provide a good boost in damage compared to Exotics. Ascended trinkets are even easier, just buy amulets (maybe rings too) with Laurels, buy accessories with Guild Commendations. Armor boost is minor, you might say armor isn’t even need unless you’re going for Fractals.

The problem here might lie, just like you pointed, in the fact that people expect players to be fully into Ascended gear while this isn’t needed.

I think its funny in that quote that O’Brien says 1000 hours of play isn’t considered grinding. No one can play for a thousand hours and just naturally acquire what is needed to make a legendary. It takes playing very specific content over and over again to get said craft items.

second issue is with someone saying the cost to craft nevermore pre is 1100 gold? that person is smoking dope. To buy every item even at lowest offer prices is well over 2000 gold. Hell, the amalgamated gemstone alone is 600+gold for just ONE of the items! The only way your doing it for under 1200 gold is if you are waiting months to make the ascended mats and GRIND AB for the lost hero chests for the amalgamated gemstone.

This game is ALL about the grind… no if ands or butts.

And what does the Nevermore gives you in terms of power over an Ascended? Oh, right! Nothing!

100% optional content you put yourself through only if you want. Other than that, you can just play the game hiwever you want and just generate money to buy it a few pieces at a time, unless you want it as soon as possible and limit yourself to the most optimal grind spots.

@Snaplemouton: here’s a vid about MMO economies done by Extra Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W39TtF14i8I

It mostly focuses on inflation and managing inflation, but there’s also a lot of other useful info about MMO economics that you seem to not yet understand. It’s good information to have regardless if the video isn’t completely on the same topic as this thread.

~EW

Wow, resorting to a video with vaguely relevant info to prove a point that doesn’t apply as much here.

1 – If people vendor around 100000 sigils a day that’s about 160 gold being added to the economy, I don’t know if this estimate is over or under the reality, but even 10 times this quantity are almost irrelevant compared to the gold generated from other sources, mainly dailies and dungeons. and baubles from map rewards. Probably less than 2% of the gold generated in a day.

2 – Considering the current situation it’s more likely that removing minor sigils will REDUCE inflation.

As they are now, they are just an annoyance to waste time on inventory management.

WHY MATCHMAKING IS BROKEN

in PvP

The landslide scores have two explanations:

1 – MM isn’t effective, creating unbalanced teams for a multitude of reasons: classes are unbalanced, skill levels are unbalanced, premades vs soloers and some others.
2 – The game mode promotes landslides. Even with balanced teams very close matches aren’t the rule.

These two don’t indicate an elo hell, just that the system is flawed, but it’s flawed both ways so in theory it’s 50/50.

10 regular skills, up to 5 profession specific skills, weapon swap, dodge, character movement, camera movement… it is just not the amount of actions most players are comfortable with performing on a controller / joystick. It is probably reasonable to assume that most people who still want to use a controller for the game are enthusiastic enough about it to use third party software. That being said, more often than not third party software is better than native support anyway. This would also allow you to map more complex funtions to your controller buttons. I mean, sure, ANet does not allow multikey assignments, but if your controller software simulates low level keyboard events there is literally no way to find out wether you adhere to the rule

Action Camera is already in the game.

4 buttons + 4 shoulder buttons layout offers 20 action slots. There are more than enough, in GW it would probably be like:

RIght Stick – Camera
Left Stick – Movement
D-Pad – Cycle through targets, Left and Right cycle through enemy units, Up and Down Through allied units.
Default – basic attack (1), jump, roll, interact
Button 1 – Weapon attacks (From 2 to 5)
Button 2 – Healing Skill + Utility Skills (6 to 9)
Button 3 – Profession mechanics (f1 to f4)
Button 4 – Elite Skill and some other functions, like turnabout and additional profession mechanics if needed. (Engineer and Mesmers)
Start – brings the menus window, from there you can pick between the Hero or Inventory. Navigate with D-Pad, 4 buttons for confirm/use, cancel, move item, deposit.
Select – Map. Navigate with D-Pad (point to point) or Left Stick (cursor), zoom with Right Stick.

While navigating the Trading Post would still require a keyboard, even crafting is possible with this layout, main difference is that you cannot use menus while moving. The rest is similar to other games that can be played on controller, like FFXIV or Tera.
