I’ve only ever been kicked once and that was from CoF path 1. Given the way you phrased it and the post above I’m guessing you should give this op in this thread a gander https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Again-the-Biggest-Problem-with-Dungeons/first
You should probably look at this thread
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vets-grouping-together-to-do-Arah-Runs/first
I agree though with the loot. It is quite ridiculous. I should get a bit better than a few blues and a green for soloing lupi and friends….
Nah I’m bad and I’m the one that always gets carried. I even made a thread in a desperate attempt for people to carry me through Arah https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first#post1165046 I even made a bunch of requirements to ensure I would get carried without fail. Maybe I should have added need 5k+ acheivement points so I could have sucked worse.
Ummm…. not to downplay your argument, but given that the greatest issue in FOTM is the reliance on projectile reflect / null; Wouldn’t you being a guardian completely invalidate your argument that you don’t need X comp for Y.
Three of the most useful areas of fractals for a guardian are ones listed too. I don’t get the argument either. Theives are useful in a bunch of the fractals too which I guess he doesn’t realize either. Wait until you get to 40s and you will see being able to dodge is more important than your class, but having some professions with block/absorb projectiles that can dodge makes things easier.
Perfect fractal group compostion: One or more guadian/mesmer/ele/theif with reflect/absorb projectile skills that can dodge + any other professions that can dodge = win. That is pretty much the composition of every random fractal group you will get except the dodge part varies.
The skin acquisition is the most annoying thing for me. I got to 44 and went back and did some 20-30s on top of that and have 0 skins. Put them in the trader like ever other dungeon instead of making us grind fractals to death for just a chance to get one that isn’t the one we wanted. People would probably play it more and come back to do it rather than get frustrated and stop doing fractals or even quit playing altogether because of stuff like this.
Post I make:
lfm Arah path 3. Arah noobs only. Join if you are a poor sap that wants to learn the run. Need full exotic set + ranged weapon no mf. I have done arah a lot and will get you through it.
Post I look for to join:

My back hurts more from the post I join than the post I make.

Your choice or both.
If it’s your first character it’s not a bad idea to get a soldiers set of armor. Once you have learned your class and some of the content, take off the training wheels and get a berserker set and use that instead since it is the way to go for memsers. Also, that soldiers set you have will come in handy for some cases so you will not have wasted your time grinding for it.
I would suggest making a defensive rare set and as many exotic berserker trinkets as you can afford and then do ascolonian catacombs path 1-2 or honor the waves path 1 since they are easy and have soldiers stat gear. You will get some dungeon experience and can branch out to harder ones from there and get some berserker gear. Citadel of flame is by far the easiest to get berserker gear from. Crucible of eternity and arah are the hardest but are the most fun and they have nicer looking berserker armors. That’s if you don’t want to farm karma for a gear skin that you may not even like.
I have pretty tanky gear on my guardian and I don’t ever remember being able to get hit with more than 2 sparks and stay alive. Nothing has seemed to change attack/damage wise other than him following you out the door or the almost fixed grub mark on players only.
Need to do 2 things for Arah pugs:
1. Dodge and use blocks/reflect/invulnerable skills efficiently
2. Bring revival skills and traits to revive such as battle standard, signet of undeath, guardian/memser bubble on revive traits, etc.
One of my groups managed to do it with no armor fairly easily doing those two things properly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnuGB9EZv-s
Just practice doing those 2 things and you should be able to help your group through it no matter the skill level of the people you get paired with. If that’s not your style than this might apply to you https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Again-the-Biggest-Problem-with-Dungeons/first
Probably your best bet is here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vets-grouping-together-to-do-Arah-Runs
Dam you beat me to it.
Same. He was a bit fickle with my clones and buggy for me. Anyways, job well done!
Two quick tips
1. Melee
2. Take that armor off and get naked
It’s what our group did with 1 grub eaten and we did ok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnuGB9EZv-s
What profession are you? There is a lot you can do for pretty much any profession. Some generic things would be use blocks/invulnerable/reflect skills at the aoe to be safe and conserve dodges, use sigil of energy, or use endurance regen rate food or skills (not both since they don’t stack). You don’t have to dodge his auto attack single sparks if you are in melee range though that comes with it’s own set of challenges.
There isn’t anything wrong with the fight as is. Many are lazy or don’t care to get better or plan and just run in with what they have on for the entire dungeon. I’ll pick on warriors and give examples like a full shout warrior. You’re 2k or so heals from a shout won’t offset you being trapped in a bubble. The 10 stacks of vulnerability are not going to do you any good while you are downed and throwing rocks at him in a bubble or on red circles. Fear me does not work on him. He has poison for a few seconds so you really don’t need to shake it off. Don’t be that guy. Be prepared. I’m able to kite him during phase 2 while reviving my fully dead team back up with the setup I run with my guardian. I swap skills, traits, and gear for just this fight which is what you need to do.
(edited by obal.3218)
Okay, so we know a Thief can do this. It seems only logical since they have such high evading capabilities. Warriors used to be able to do solo this guy, but I’m not sure about now. Have there been any other reported professions able to solo Lupicus (proof or very well argued theories)?
My guess of other possible professions:
Elementalist, Guardian, Mesmer(?)
I did it on my guardian with a scepter and again with a sword. Wethospu did it after the reckless dodge patch with his warrior. They are all on youtube.
Great work. I remember being in that arah lfg guild with you and grouping a few times before gw2lfg.com started up. Looks like we have come a long ways since then. Thanks for the groups in the past and congrats on this.
…
Agreed, this is an awesome guild even though no one reps. I’ve only run twice with the guild so far, both times with obal. He and everyone else were patient and friendly. And having pros like obal in there make these runs a breeze if everyone follows direction. When I pugged this dungeon before it was an absolute fail. Thank you to the organizers of this guild!Obal made the game looks easy. Wait until you run w/ a less than ideal group then you really know how much you know. Got to tell you that I learned a lot w/ a wiped group than w/ Obal, but Obal gave me the confidence that Lupi isn’t that bad. And Lupi isn’t that bad.
Kumakichi,
I like to run other paths too, so please add me in when u see me on line.
That’s pretty much how I learned. I learned pretty quickly how to utilitize all my skills to revive and stay alive at the same time as well as how to deal with full aggro (every attack on you except a few autoattacks at 2) since it tends to fall on guardians when people start dying. Thanks to all those kind souls who took one for the team and helped me gain the experience to solo lupi as well as revive the team when everyone one else is completely dead but me . My runs are just to get you started, show you it’s really not that bad, and help you deal with such things.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this since I have 3 characters that have almost a full set of arah weapons each. It slows me down in dungeons looking for them when swapping around. I was glad to see that my corrupted gs got an icon though at least.
Judging from your post that you’ve kindly linked, you seem to know your way around Arah. The only part that we get stuck on is lupicus, we just can’t seem to clear him, and it always ends up with people leaving to the point where we can’t fill the position and have to abandon it. Therefore, I was wondering if you could find time in your schedule to take me for a run, to learn the in and out of the mursaat and/or forgotten path.
I can go with you and some of your guild regulars if you would like. I’ve done that with a few guilds and they seem to have more success with it after going with me. I’ll just pm you if I see you on and we can work something out.
You appear to be a leader of a guild so why not go with them? This might help you and your guild even https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first
Some sound advice – make a guardian. I don’t have much of a problem reviving my team back up even when I’m the only alive at phase 2 with it. I have resolute healer trait, retreat, virtue of courage, shield #5, focus #5 at my disposal to revive. One good guardian can make this battle not so bad. I tend to run with 1-4 people that are brand new to Arah and can’t remember the last time I’ve wiped at him.
I’m glad they didn’t change the fight any though. I get to find more groups stuck at lupi now and get tokens quicker .
///
Just a suggestion: let’s represent when actually lfg / available for running, so there’s no need to whisper 20 people or something.
We are setting our status to lfg to help show interest and form groups for now. I thought of this later on so it didn’t catch on to most yet. It’s in the guild message. A lot of people can’t rep the guild so this is the best option for now. Hopefully they will do something with guilds in the future that would suit our needs better.
(edited by obal.3218)
Withdrawn.. Didn’t realize you were looking for experienced arah players. :P
We have a few people to help with new players, including me. I give them different guild ranks so we can identify them and run with them a few times to show them the ropes and put them to the normal rank after.
It could be solved this way, if the guild is structured to run in certain time plus 15m-30m of latency (whatever the best latency needed to set up a group), ie 7-7:30PM EST, 11-11:30PM EST. During that time, whoever wants to run Arah, has to rep the guild so guild channel can be utilized to broadcast message. If you don’t rep, then you will miss the message, unless somebody want to whisper to you directly.
I guess this would be best option for now…Anet needs to allow an option for guild chat channel even without rep! Shouldn’t be that hard to implement :-)
I think the best solution may be to put that lfg status to some use. Is there any other use for it that I don’t know of?
I wished I could do some Arah exploration. But so far, I’ve only seen, not met, seen elitist/“experienced” players in Arah. They don’t like when they got newbies. I’ll be honest, I’m kind of an elitist myself for CoF and AC but not much, just when they don’t dodge when needed and when they aggro something we are trying to avoid. In other words rage.
Regardless, I don’t have anything to say about Arah because I’ve never done it. Played since launch and never touched Arah exploration even with all previous “speed-runs” and skip to final boss runs with no DR.
I’ve been looking for a well-mannered group to do Arah with, to teach players who’s new to Arah exploration. Tough luck going on though and it seems like you guys are enjoying it… like really enjoying it… care to assist and show me what you see in Arah exploration?TL;DR Show me why Arah makes you all warm and fuzzy.
This might help you https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first
For me it is lupi. Arah was the first dungeon I tried within a month of release sporting some nice shiny rare gear. I went with a pug and took well over an hour to get to lupi doing path 3 and had lupi stomp all over us for a good 45min. We could only survive 1 minute or so of phase 2 and called it quits after many failures. I felt like giving up on dungeons but went to AC and then others and saw they weren’t all that bad. I went back to Arah many months later filled with dungeon experience and found Arah to be a good challenge instead of a nightmare. Lupi is such a great boss and I exacted my revenge on him by soloing and putting him to shame like he did to me earlier on. I really hope they make more bosses that are as detailed and challenging with no way to exploit them like our good old lupi. On a side note a mini lupi would be a great item to add to the game. Just saying…
I think one thing that is noteworthy is that a lot of us are willing to take Arah newcomers as long as they are willing to listen and learn
I had some thoughts about the guild when I made it that along these lines and with my thread. It’s kind of a work in progress now as far as they go though. I just need to talk things over with a few people and maybe we can get some stuff going that will benefit the community more . There will be a huge emphasis though on Kumakichi’s last 2 requirements though for sure.
(edited by obal.3218)
I thought about making a guild from the people I ran with in my thread but the thought came a bit late and I got lazy. I was in a guild like that before gw2lfg.com got big and I had a few good groups. Feel free to pm me in game if you want to get something started. I will help you out since I have many that will probably fit your criteria and will want to be added.
A decent pug time for Arah path 3 is about 45min or so. The rest are a bit longer or much longer so I would just stick to 3. I haven’t run SE in awhile but path 3 is about 15-20min with a good group. Path 1 might be quicker and easier with the updates though and path 2 takes a bit of time and is more difficult. I’m being realistic with times. If your looking to get into Arah then this might help you https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first
He reset on me while I did my solo at phase 1. I was standing right next to him hitting him with a sword and he just walked away and reset. It kind of sucks I deleted that video by accident since it was kind of amusing. I’ve fought him over 100 times and that was the only time I’ve seen him reset though so I guess I’ve been fortunate or it doesn’t happen often for no reason. The few other times it happened were due to stealth or just being too far.
I find guardian to be the best at this and is why I made it my main. I go for the highest toughness to get all the aggro since I can handle it. Even if it is a good group I do this and the rest can focus on dps.
Im sure everyone has seen or heard about
1. Full Zerker Warrior Solo’ing Lupi
2. Guardian Scepter Solo LupiSo no, guardian is not needed as the warrior did it.
And no, epic DPS is not needed as the guardian did it.I bet other classes could too. This is just saying there is no “1 Sure Fire Method to carrying the team during Lupi”
Guardian is the easiest and best to keep the party up and alive for this. They have focus 5, retreat, virtue of courage, and sheild on revive trait to revive safetly. I’ve had plenty of times where I’m the only one alive and I have to kite him at phase 2 and revive the party at the same time but it’s not too bad. It’s the best to help a group learn the fight with since they will be up more to experience it. Timewise I’d say warrior though. Wethospu would have lupi beat by the time we get everyone up though probably….
I like how it starts off as a nice offer from the first few sentences like he is a nice guy then he slaps a 20g charge after that. Just post on gw2lfg.com like everyone else who does this.
Hey obal I’m interested in taking you up on your offer of running Arah 3. What sort of procedure do you have for signing up?
You just need to make a post as you have done. If you are on at my times and not doing anything you will be taken.
Path 3 takes about 45min – 1 hour for a normal smooth run which isn’t that bad (being generous with times instead of giving exaggerated low times for a typical group). I take 1-4 new people and explain most things and it takes me about 45min. A good group focused on power could do it in 30min or so. The rest of the paths are only worth doing if you are going dungeon master. The rewards are some great skins that you actually have to earn by doing something challenging instead of flying through AC/CoF etc or farming gold so I guess that would be the point of doing Arah. The game needs more dungeons like it and more epic bosses like lupi. I do agree with about Dwayna though as I’m sure many others do as well.
(edited by obal.3218)
A guild group and I got to Lupi about a week ago and wiped about 5 times (apparently Lupi had a thing for leafy eles that night and so I was the victim of several Shadowstep + AoE + AA combos in phase 2). If it weren’t for the fact that I had to get up early the next morning we would have kept on going. If anyone on this thread is still doing Arah mentor runs, throw me an invite! I’m around usually from 23:00 – 5:00 GMT (or 18:00 – midnight EST), so a run around server reset time would be great.
My main is an ele, but I also have a tank(hammer/ mace&shield) warrior and a condi necro. I’ll take whoever is best for the party.
I’m still going regularly. I can just go with a group of you and your guild members if you want since that usually has worked out the best to help guilds get through it. I’ll talk to you more in game about it if I see you on.
It’s pretty much what he said. The 1h are weak and I need the offhand skills to get by. I don’t even have a full set of berserkers since it’s kind of a waste on a guardian since they are fairly weak and built for survival and not power. We aren’t warriors. I could have gone with more power traits but it wouldn’t have made too much of a difference. I would have liked to put the last 20 points in Honor into Radiance to get a buff to sword and 15% more crit chance since the Honor traits I have are a bit of a waste but I need the extra hp since I know it will be a long fight and I will get hit by a kick or a swipe and that will 1 shot me.
I’ve done it a bit more quicker using gs/mace+shield with full zerker and putting 20 points into virtues for stability when using virtue of courage to have more means of escaping the bubble. Though any of his kick was 1 shotting me and 3rd hit in the bubble (it hits 5 times) meant death.
I was thinking about doing that too since I use focus 5 as my last resort for bubbles and a gs would be real nice for those locusts and to make it go faster. I like having it at phase 2 to deal with the red circles though and it gave me a few seconds of block to deal with the locusts at 1 to make up for the lack of power. In the end I just went with what I’m comfortable with since I figured that would give me a better shot at it.
6:50 to hit phase 2 kitten thats slow. My best is 2:30 on my D/D ele.
Sword is really bad dps weapon for that and he mostly uses autoattack. Plus 0/10/30/30/0 and his gear give him 2033 toughness and 1395 vitality, that’s rather tanky.
The other 5 classes who haven’t solo’d Lupus yet.
I’m sure it’s doable on mes, probably 2-3 times faster than this with zerker setup.
It’s pretty much what he said. The 1h are weak and I need the offhand skills to get by. I don’t even have a full set of berserkers since it’s kind of a waste on a guardian since they are fairly weak and built for survival and not power. We aren’t warriors. I’m also not going for a speed run or anything I’m just trying to get it done. I only put on my knight/berserker set over my ptv set because I needed to deal with the locusts and I could barely do that as is. One of the hardest parts of the solo is just figuring out a set up and strategy (especially one you are comfortable with) to get through it.
I agree a mesmer could do it and a lot faster. I was going to give it a shot but I think I’m done after this one and I’ve only used a mesmer at lupi once but it seemed viable. I was going to do full berserker gear + ruby jewels and get 25 stacks of bloodlust to make up for no power triats, sword + sword (energy), sword + focus (energy), with the build I made up (fixed link) http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcmmzmczMMganmMganm0xaGamakccRm

I’m set for guilds now. Thanks for the responses.
i cannot believe this.. I didnt know you could just dodge the grub thing…. thanks for the video-keep up the awesome guardian-ing.
I never knew this either for the longest time. I have Wethospu to thank for knowing that and when to dodge the grub mark.
Very nice. How can you tell when hes about to do his kick?
Edit: ah nm he crouches a little.
It is very subtle and easy to miss. Every other animation tends to be this if you stay in melee range which helps to know when to dodge. He is a bit mean sometimes and does it 2x in a row.
Here is my melee solo since some were hating on my poor little scepter. This was definitely more difficult and seemed to only take less time since I put on knights/berserker armor instead of my ptv set. It took me a few more tries than doing it with a scepter and unfortunately I deleted the video where he just decided to walk away and reset as I hitting him. My hate deepens for those locusts….
It has not changed any. If you toss it with the circle right on the person it comes up short. You have to line circle up with the person and put it past them. The easiest approach is just to have your team make a spread line, stand still until you get it, and run to the next person and throw it with the circle completely past the person.
What I’m looking for
- NA Server
- Small active guild looking to stay small and familiar with each other (around 30 or so)
- Dungeon focused guild (can have other focuses but this needs to be a big one)
- Does or wants to get into harder dungeons like CoE and Arah
- Most of members are 80 with exotics
- Not full of elitists
- 18+
What I would bring
- Guardian/Warrior/Mesmer fully geared
- Dungeon Master
- Willing to lead groups especially for Arah (I am creator of such posts https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Lupicus-Solo-as-Guardian-with-Scepter/first#post1334423
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first#post1165046 )
I’m not looking to fill out any applications or do try outs.
I earned 9600 tokens last time i counted so I killed lupi at least 160 times. I’ve gotten 2 rares and rest blues, greens, and …. whites. That is including lupi and the chest
Are you going with pugs or a guild/friends? Maybe this will help? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vet-here-to-help-you-with-Arah-runs/first#post1165046
I haven’t seen it to target clones etc. with infection. However, it may target them during phase 2 transition.
That just happened to me. A theif used theives guild in phase 1 and a grub spawned on one of them during the phase 2 transition.
no need of ctrl+something at all with this, every key easy to reach.
I was thinking about that too and my wife wanted to get me one but I play lying down so I don’t think it would work out well for me.
my remapped skills (Use your pinky finger)
7 = ctrl+1
8 = ctrl+2
9 = ctrl+3
10 = ctrl+4That way I can remain mobile through WASD while also using my fingers to use utilities and elite if needed. I typically mouse-click my heal though, so I don’t accidentally hit the key at the wrong moment.
Wow. I never knew you can do this. I just tried that and it made the world of difference. I was going to try combat mod but just decided to get another mouse and with that and the ctrl clicking I’ll be more then content.
=O you click your skills with your mouse?
I have dodge, heal, elite on mouse buttons. I use keyboard for 1-5. I click virtues and my utilities with my mouse. I get the block off from retreat/virtue of courage off about 3/5 of the time before getting hit. I struggle with the bubbles/red circles since I have to determine if it is a bubble or a red circle and then find where my mouse cursor is and then find stand your ground or have a fairly delayed dodge out of the red circles and take some damage. I never wanted a mouse with more buttons more then while attempting phase 3 solo at melee range for the first time when I finished the solo. It was a little annoying before when I do it normal. I just ordered a mouse with many more buttons about 30min ago.
I used to do HA a lot in gw1 clicking half my bar as a monk while leading a group of unranked people in my guild so I’m fairly used to it. I felt a little spoiled when I got a mouse with 3 extra buttons and programmed them a month after release but this game is a bit more advanced so it really made a big difference.
(edited by obal.3218)
So, all non-heavy classes are ‘inferior’ now?
An elementalist solo’d him, so no.
Wasn’t aware of that, cool that people have the patience to try feats such as solo lupicus. I disagree that the other classes are all around ‘inferior’ to the three in mention, however for something such as solo lupicus… probably.
I think a mesmer can do it too. I put some thought into and would like to try it but I haven’t used my mesmer much and I lack buttons on my mouse. I have to click all of my utilities which takes time do and makes me take a bit of needless damage and that is much more forgiving on a guardian.
get a princess wand and embrace it
I have one and used it in my other videos for my guide. I get a laugh when I use it with my arah armor dyed abyss. I wanted to try a different set up so I spent a chunk of Arah tokens and some gold for a new set for just lupi solo.
anyone have any bosses they would like this guy to attempt to solo with scepter again?
Simin ;D
I’ll pass.
Ya’ll solo artists are awesome. This is really impressive congrats on the feat!
Now where are the posts explaining why all guardians are over powered because of how skilled you are as a player?
And you did it with the scepter! I feel like you should be rewarded a precursor for this.
A rare or better from lupi would have been nice at least. A precursor would have been acceptable. I got lucky and got a green that run. I’ve killed him over 100 times and have gotten 2 rares from him.
Takes much longer than solo on a warrior so not worth it I guess.
Because guardian melee doesn’t have any abilities that can hit for over 14k.
It didn’t seem like when i tried sword/focus I did a whole lot more damage. I wanted to do something that fits with my play style and guide for lupi I made as well as try something that hadn’t been done before so I went with scepter only.
Here is my first attempt at a lupi solo. I killed him my second try after a very long failure. I tried to stick to my tactics in my guide for a party setting, but I decided to stay close to him in phase 3 shortly into it since I thought it would save some time and I was running on fumes. It would have went a bit smother if auto attack didn’t interrupt dodges (a fix to this would be great) and it was my first time trying phase 3 right next to him with my guardian set up so it was a bit of a learning curve for me. My set up is at the end of the video and in the description along with a link to my guide for a party setting.
