For dungeon/fractals no. Compare numbers.
49k Whirling Wrath. Gave it a few tries this time.
Clearly clerics AH mace/torch is the way to go since my build sucks.
You no range boss?

Is saying it someone who has never done it as a melee the whole fight.
I could say to you L2P.And gratz Obal.
You done it again
He was just trolling. It seems to be the best end game content in the game currently. Brazil has made it the new meta.
Some typical casual guardian dps. Pretty weak 40k WW.
The Brazil has spoken.
i am quite intrigued to try to 25+ Virtues builds.
@Dub and others – is RHS really a waste of a trait most of the time? i’ve just gotten used to going full Radiance most of the time now.
I find 10/30/0/5/25 to be the best all around build. It’s what I use for pretty much everything now. It’s worth a try.

I feel like we need to make a compilation of obal posts just so we can link them when people make dumb threads (e.g. icebrood wolves in hotw p1).
That was one of my favorites .
I could see that 2 warriors would be the fastest. I opened the dungeon so I couldn’t change and I wanted to see how a mix could do and how terrible the fight has become since the nerf. People still seem to still have a problem with it for some reason so I posted it.
thats the thing there was no bug , we just couldnt kill the boss LoL

Simin could use a buff. Nerfed way too hard.
Vulnerability is OP. Do that and zerk it up and win. It’s been known that power > condition for pve for a very long time now. I’m not sure why people still run these builds so stubbornly only to contribute less to their group and are the ones that complain. I don’t see why putting conditions on something from a range rather than meleeing something with little health and armor should be comparative damage either. As far as structures go zerkers lose out on crit damage so they are screwed over just as much as a condition build. Guild Wars 1 favored power over conditions for pve too and no one had a problem with that.

All clerics or rabid gear of course.
If your lucky, you will be able to kill one of the champs that attacks the turrets by the time the event fails.

Good information about builds isn’t that easy to find, there are no clearing houses of “good” builds with ratings, and the plethora of “guides” on youtube is spurious at best.
It’s not hard to find good ones. The length of the video is a pretty good indicator for dungeons. For builds if it’s for dungeons and it’s not a zerker power build it’s bad. If it’s a condition or healing build it’s really bad. People are hesitant to change to this and look for something easier and much worse rather than try it and get better.
The game is advertised as play the way you want, with no holy trinity, and roles are very poorly defined.
True, but after a year of being out it is pretty clear what each profession brings.
Warrior – offensive support of FGJ, banners, vulnerability
Guardian – defensive support of projectile reflects/destruction, condition removal, defensive boons, binding blades, blinds
Mesmer – utility of TW, feedback and other reflects, focus pull, null field, group boon copying
Elementalist – lots of might and fury and conjured weapons
Ranger – offensive support of spotter and frost spirit
Engineer – stacking max vulnerability with grenades
Theif – stealth, lots of dps, good for stacking might before fights blasting sb in a fire field
Necro – blinds, chill, vulnerability
A good group comp maintain 20+ might and vulnerability stacks, perma fury, reflects if needed, condition removal if needed, and ZERKERS. Some other good things depending on the situation would be blinds, cc, and perm prot.
Probably left out some things but oh well. You get the drift.
(edited by obal.3218)
Maybe they were trying to send a message that torch is bad on a guardian by not updating it.
Can’t forget the record for slowest…. only 37min…

Looks like you got kicked from arah. The pros sporting their dungeon master title in arah posting for experienced only play how they want and kick how they want. You better stick to their dungeon master pro strats.
- Range mage crusher in front of the pedestal. DO NOT try to melee… it’s too hard…. It goes up in the air and gives you 3s react to dodge. It’s better to be safe and take 3x longer and not learn how to fight an easy boss
- Pull alphard back to the wall and range it. DO NOT try to melee it.. it’s too hard… It has ranged attacks that all can be rendered useless by projectile destruction/reflection. It’s better to be safe and take 3x longer and not learn how to fight an easy boss
- You don’t know cool ship skip…. OMG!! Use it. Stability and swiftness skills… there’s too many skills I have unlocked to know what does what to know what to bring to run. Let’s just jump ship for as long as it will take a good speed clear group to finish the whole path so we can wait for everyone that can’t jump to make it to the boss instead of learning the timing on deadeye shot to dodge it and use stability if needed.
- This lupi guy… He is so big and scary so range must be best. It’s better to be safe and take 5x longer. It’s not like you will wipe anyway doing that. All those bubbles… why is this happening…. A grub spawned… why is this happening…
- This SIMIN.. OMG OP!!! plz nerf. I want to play how I want and I can’t beat it. Nerfed. Ok no strategy now just press 1 to win. Thanks for the fix!
- Path 1… nah too tough
- Bring a clerics rifle, shortbow, staff, or pistol/dagger and you will have a better chance of staying alive to res any noob zerkers that may be in the group. You are the last one standing you must be awesome and won’t get kicked.
Seriously though I don’t get why there’s so many of these topics. I have pugged so much and I got kicked 1 time because I lagged out and my internet was out for about 5min. I’ve only seen people in groups I’ve been in get kicked for that reason or they were told many times to stop doing something that truely screws the group over and won’t listen.
(edited by obal.3218)
Now imagine doing that in PVT with the play how you want debuff on yourself.
It probably would have healed in 1 tick for about the same amount of damage we did…… maybe even more.
I made it for both organized and pug groups. I tried it out for my usual fractal group at 48 and it worked well. I liked the flexibility since half the fractal content is faceroll and the old anchor just slows things down, but you can go full zerk and benefit from it more for those parts and be tanky enough for other parts. More blinds and vulnerability is great too. It’s good for fractal for organized groups and pugging. Outside of fractal Brazil’s sword dps build is better for an organized group since stuff dies too fast for perma prot to be beneficial. I haven’t pugged dungeons in awhile but this one would be safer for that if you get a low dps or bad group.
Here is another DnT casual boss fight.

I made a new build to replace the anchor since that is pretty much dead. It does just as well for survival while offering more dps, flexibility, blinds, and vulnerability. I also added a few more videos at the bottom of some crazy stuff we did.
Thank God I had a ridiculous healing spec for my guardian.
- The next 20 minutes has the leader and I taking care of all the dogs, mostly because we have nothing better to do than twiddle our thumbs.
I have a heal-spec guardian because I want a heal-spec guardian.
obal, if you read the last paragraph of his latest post you’d see that he’s not interested in playing a good build, he is choosing of his own accord to use bad gear.
And then complaining about his party for being bad.
Mine as well try
In guild wars 1, if you want to any town that acted as a hub to form a group to do a dungeon there would be 2+ people running the dungeon for gold. I don’t think I ever saw any complaint threads for guild wars 1 regarding selling spots. I don’t see why it would be any different in this game. It just seems less common since the only thing people would want a run for is Arah which takes skill or Fractal which takes time and skill depending on the level.
Let them be. They are playing the game how they want to play and are adhering to ANET’s philosophy.
Healing specs are the worst thing for pve. Your contributing the same (maybe less) as the shortbow ranger your describing. Get better and dodging and learn to manage blocks and blinds while using the build below. You don’t need to tank hits when you can blind the kitten out of them and do 3x the damage.

Why is your group always downing?
I thought 4 eviscerates would kill it like the last time with a few auto attacks so we plowed on. It made it more enjoyable to watch anyway.
niiiiice.
btw, if mesmer used feedback when it is spewing out bombs wouldn’t that prevented you guys from dying? WoR still reflect bombs last time I killed powersuit (doesn’t do damage but still protects people from getting bombed)
It doesn’t do damage so we just went for the extra 4% damage of another mantra. You can usually just walk out of circles and melee through it. We got trolled the one time though at the very end where no circle was drawn. Maybe bloomhunger tactics apply .

Personally I dislike players kiting behind the Ice Elemental, since it often messes up aggro, and causes the boss to wander off in the wrong direction. But then again, I haven’t done level 40+ fractals yet.
I did it with 2 different group comps. It ran up to it every attempt to aggro it and pull it to the circle. It followed me the whole time every attempt. The level wouldn’t make any difference.
warrior – http://youtu.be/oXLDvQOKzxU
mesmer – http://youtu.be/W9cPuF-zrb8
We killed it in 1 bucket pull and 22s after superheated (one of the war hit it 3s before superheated). I forgot to hit record so the warrior one is a stream of someone in the group and not the best quality. Hopefully we will get the dredge suit if we go again.
(edited by obal.3218)
You can melee them
How do you keep the the Ice ele from healing in the 15 second window? Was it luck, or something else?
I used binding blades to pull it. Pulls work through defiant and interrupt it. I’d imagine pushes do the same.
It’s faster to melee these bosses. No need to range.
This is shown at 48 though it should apply for any level even 80 since stuff is all 1 shot anyway.
Rampaging Ice Elemental with 1 bucket 25s = http://youtu.be/oXLDvQOKzxU
Rampaging Ice Elemental with 2 buckets 1:19 = http://youtu.be/L7JNybJd2QU
- When it raises it’s arm dodge away or kite to max melee range behind it to avoid the agony circle around it
- When it stomps the ground kite behind it but not directly on it to avoid the icicle rows in front of it (can’t seem to reflect them like in coe)
- When it does the red circles dodge or kite them (have distinct sound compared to the vet ones)
- Bring a stun breaker in case a vet knocks you over
- It can be done in 1 pull…. TW!!! but you should have someone with a pull or launch ready when superheated ends to interrupt it’s heal (hunches down) since it goes through defiant. Kite it back to the circle and keep it there and have someone go up to pull it again. Superheated lasts 30s and the lever recharges in 45 seconds so you will have a 15s wait.
- Stick to the same one so you can put banners and such down
Powersuit = Same as ice elemental but less annoying. I don’t have a vid since we did half melee/range and I didn’t come up with the new method at the time and I don’t care for fractal anymore.
- Dodge melee attack (has huge cone can be DIRECTLY behind and not get hit)
- Dodge when it jumps (wall didn’t reflect this)
- Dodge or kite out of bomb circles (reflects don’t damage it and not sure if they even do anything for it anymore)
- Bring a block skill for the agony and use it as soon as it gets stability since you won’t have 2 dodges probably (agony is 3 attacks)
- Warriors running warhorn is a good for vigor
- Same tactics as above regarding interupting the heal and pulling levers
Jellyfish Beast 2:41 = http://youtu.be/8pom5gqiCZI
- Dodge the tail swipes (aegis is good to use when you see it)
- Use stability when it does the electric spin (stand your ground is great for this)
- Interupt the agony attack as it wastes time. Can you interupt it….YES!!!!!. Please do if you are awake for the fight. It does a slow twirl and you have to use a sink or float skill as soon as you see it as it goes through defiant.
- Cages aren’t worth the effort
Now for full melee ashym and final phase of archdiviner…….
I guess it wouldn’t be a fractal psa thread without some bloomhunger http://youtu.be/gRbZeYnu-6k

The end bosses of these paths are too hard. Please make them as easy as the F/U boss. I can’t believe these two paths give the same gold as the easier F/U. Outrage I say.
Obal, for Infusions:
Power vs Critical?
It ends up being 20 Power vs 1% to Critical Hit.
I just use the +5 ar ones but the 20/1 sounds like a bad tradeoff. I guess you can put your build in a build calc and add them in to see what gives you higher though.
My group and I have issues with the Dredge Control Panel event show in the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pury3dyGX20
I studied it carefully, and i liked the approach i plan to incorporate what you’re doing but my question is this around the 1:33 mark in the vid two of the downed party members were revived and the dredge numbers seemed a bit thinned out. Was that a time lapse at that point? Do the dredge have a limited number of spawns?
The strategy is to group up the ones in the middle and left and kill them. A vet will spawn by the panel afterwards which you leave alone and no more will spawn. You get out of combat to let the outside people revive if need be and send 2 in the room to the switches to let the other 2 in I just cut them reviving and running through to save some time on the video. From there 2 kite the mobs while the other does the panel.

At least the memsers know what a focus pull is from doing the zerk speed clear groups. If you pug anything else or even cof 1 normal groups it is as rare to see a mesmer use a focus pull as it is to see a ranger with a melee weapon.
yea, was just wondering since i’m only hovering at 10+ at the moment so i’m sure it’s a completely different ball game. does he have different attacks from 10+ until 48+?since we group melee, tbh, i don’t think i’ve ever seen his projectile attack so clearly before. o____O
It’s the same fight, but he hits a lot harder and has more health. The hammer lunge and projectile attack are 1 shots for the most part. You just watch for a spinning animation for his projectile attack. Using a hammer for perma prot for the auto attack helps.
What about fighting him at the end of the fractal? Thats the fight i struggle to melee on. He slaps you to often up there. Fine with meleeing him down the bottom.
It would be pretty easy to solo up to the last part. I’m not sure why he didn’t do it, though.
Maybe if I was a Ranger . I don’t really like to bug people to help me out. I would have to scepter camp him for like 90% of the fight too for reasons I explained above. I’d imagine that it would take a very long time too. The regular Archdiviner fight is one of the toughest fights and was a good challenge I thought I could do so I went for it.
very nice, Obal!
would it be too tough to go full melee? or is the risk reward payoff just not there?and it’s nice being able to see the Archdiviner’s tells so clearly lol
It was kind of counterproductive. I found myself dodging more and blocked by red circles more. I used a little tankier of a setup when I tried that and it took slightly longer to get it to about 55% than how long it took me to kill it. Mostly it’s the rng though. If he auto attacks too often I’m dead which kept happening. I had to give up a decent amount of power with my final setup just to survive one auto attack which is pretty much unavoidable since you need the endurance for the other definite 1 shot attacks.
I took the wrong signet if your wondering but didn’t end up needing it anyway. Unscathed instead of empowering might and SYS would have been better but surviving the auto attack with full hp was trial and error.
They just need to tone down the effects like guardian burning and it would be perfectly fine.
There is always……………

Aw, I was hoping for commentary. Your voice is so sexy.
LoL! I’m not sure this was a troll but I got a chuckle either way. I get a lot of kitten for it in RL so I tend not to do things like that very often. Thanks for the compliment if you were serious
Congrats on soloing one of the easiest bosses in the game?
Sure its lv48, but still this boss is kind of a face-roll, as long as you don’t mess up and get hit by his agony it should go pretty smoothly no matter what, and being a guardian just makes this boss even easier to solo.
I can’t find anyone soloing anything 40+ and I figured I could solo bloomy. I guess I made it look a lot easier than it was . One AoE hit or Entangle and I was dead.
This thread is going to generate a ton of fun. Or maybe not, because the interested party might prefer silence after this being posted + DnT’s 80 group melee.
Ill bite. That was incredibly low dps for killing bloom. Or do bosses have way more hp in 80?
A soul crushingly high amount of hit points.
We were just testing it out too as we tried to scrape together a group with the few members on at the time. We weren’t optimal and didn’t bother to prep for a speedy kill from what we had since it wasn’t the point. We were testing the tactic of staying behind it given the back and forth. This tactic was told to me by more experienced members of the guild when I started and I never ran in to the problem that we showed on the video.
Some arguments, criticisms, and general nastiness went on but we got past that. I already made a half troll of a post of the bloomhunger speed kill and I didn’t mean for this one to be one as well. I just never saw anyone bother with 40+ solos and I figured I would get things started.
I had been meleeing him on both my guardian and my mesmer and I have a question about his AoE in p2. On my mesmer, my feedback will go off perfectly protecting the whole group from damage. However, when my guardian use shield of absorption, damage still seems to get through even when the shield is up. I can see my shield bubble up, but my health still drops while I am inside.
I am not sure what the problem is, wrong timing? Faster/slower? Or should I not use shield and double dodge instead?
SoA is a bad option for the reasons Chryzo. It is a very unreliable skill. You could use sword/shield + sword/focus for sheild #5. If you use shield #5 when he does the hugging animation before the red circles appear it will protect you and all inside your dome. You can also double dodge with focus #5 up or use renewed focus for safer options. I used that set up on my first melee solo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EygYNOxzjTA
Phase 1 was good, Phase 2 messed up but Phase 3 amazing.

I was a bit stressed due to things going on in the background so I messed up a bit in phase 2 and 1 was a little slow since I was trying to drag him to the wall but he was being fickle. I might try it again for a speed kill kind of thing with slightly different traits and bane signet instead of retreat but 1/3 of the time from my originals was satisfying enough for me now. I’ll probably just wait until the rest of the ascended gear comes out though.

There are no ranged classes in gw2!
Everyone should go ahead and melee mobs!
If you range mobs while the rest of your team melee you are just a waste. I would rather die melee than surviving in rangeThat seems to be the general mentality, and it is absolutely stunning to me. I wonder what the devs would have to say about that.
I personally have not played Fractals at levels of 40 and upwards. But do people generally charge head first into that mob on Urban Battlegrounds when doing higher levels Fractals?
Charging head first – no
Meleeing – yes
The strategy is to pull mobs to a line of sight spot and have guardians use line or ring of warding, warriors use mace 5, and others use blinds or other cc skills (fear is counterproductive) they have at the los spot and then you watch them melt with good dps. It’s not any different than what you should be doing in any other dungeon. Here is a video of what it looks like at 48 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKuxoM0o9OM
Meleeing is the best for this game. It has a big learning curve for things but it is better. You can spend 10min ranging lupi compared to 1min meleeing. That is an extreme example but other bosses would take several times faster to melee and fractals is no different. You will learn more meleeing something a couple times than ranging it 100×. Also, I’d rather wipe at meleeing something like mossman after 2min than after 8min ranging any day.
(edited by obal.3218)
They nerfed the only hard part of path 4 so it’s just more time consuming the other paths. If your on an NA server I’d be willing to take you through path 2 and 3.
The experienced only groups are funny. If you watch a video on giganticus lupicus you will be as experienced as people in those groups. I joined one last night for path 3 and got a laugh as I was the only one meleeing the first boss while the rest kept ranging and going down, they all went to glitch range the second boss which is extremely easy especially since we had 3 guardians in the group but finally went up to melee since I went up and was meleeing it, the orb kept managing to be caught by someone who didn’t understand how to throw it right, our mesmer meleed lupi with me and was actually very good but the others just were all over the place and just went down over and over again and we would have probably had to duo him if one of them didn’t use a res orb. That’s a typical experienced only run from my experience. There are plenty of groups that don’t ask for experienced only and they are actually better for the most part.
