Mesmer Burst...

So… If the thief had had, I dont know 1 maybe1.5 more seconds probably less the mesmer would have been dead. Thats normal right? But the mesmer seeing it coming and blowing all his important cooldowns to burst back in a death race is “unfair”?

whatever… Im glad i dont play a shatter build. just seems funny when instagib burst people complain when it happens to them.

Its about equal burst but you are forgeting some things. Mesmer has a portal. Time warp for teamfights. His burst is AoE scale. His burst is possible more often then is thiefs.

O yeah? how many utilities do you think these mesmers have on their skill bar? everyone seems to think they come built in with decoy, blink, mirror images, signet, and portal… Its like when people homogenize warrior/ele/thief builds in their qq by picking the strongest things from a variety of mutually exclusive set ups and complaining like its possible to do it all at once.

like i said I dont play shatter build so it doesn’t directly impact me but the hypocrisy is palpable in the devs rush to cater to this particular qq.

I play that build myself… so dont start this stuff rly. I have portal, illiusion of life, mirrior images and time warp. It does pack all of above, exept decoy since i run ress instead of extra stunbreak. I dont have signet, as it is unneccesary.

I wont quote your post history but you know you are a thief advocate/thief main and the bias you have on this issue will be clear to anyone who looks at your log.

I really appreciate all the feedback! Ill try out the extra crit damage thing and see if I feel like its worth losing the condition dameage since i can easilly switch back its worth at least trying. And who knows maybe putting some points in the illusions tree would do some good, worth a try!

Someone said that what i was doing is a good dueling spec and thats exactly what I like to do…

one time in a hot join spvp i was alone till a bunker gaurdian joined and we dueled a couple times, always a stalemate until i figured out that to win was use sword mainhand auto attack to strip boons on third hit… that and clones exploding in his face and arcane theivery finally did the trick… wouldnt have worked if there were others around because it took to long but it works. Thieves are a pain but good blink out of initial burst and smart use of decoy/mass invis and its usually a draw with him running or a win. warriors its the same, blink out of the big spike then kite to death with izerker snare and clone condition death. eles are fun! they can be the most fun fights they go either way but always a blast, same goes for certain necro builds. Rangers… I dont know, some are amazing some are a pushover seems like a lot of variation there that i have a hard time figuring out.

anyways thanks for the feedback! have fun thats what we play for!

P.S. How do people play spvp without blink? Blink is so crutial and clutch in every single engagement i cant fathom not useing it.

Yeah sorry but I am comfortable with the rarity and the price of pre-cursors.
Legendaries should be… well… Legendary – such that they are extremely difficult to obtain (in terms of time/resources, not through skill).

There’s nothing Legendary about sitting at home playing a video game for 1000 hours straight. It just means you’re unemployed and have no life.

If you buy one for gold, then you are an idiot with more money than sense. Even at Chinese gold seller prices a twilight costs $3000. If you waste that much money on pixels in a video game you are a loser.

I propose a name change from “Legendary” to “Loser” weapons.

Imagine if they were made easier to get: within a few weeks you may find yourself in a CoE party with 4 players ALL wielding TWILIGHT, swooshing their black trail animations around all over the place. Or in Cursed Shore: half of the people camping Penitent Camp shooting flowers and colorful splashes everywhere with their bows.

This happens right now. Those farming spots are frequented by exactly these losers waving their loser weapons around. After Xmas is over, go to Orr and play count the Legendaries.

^this guy is onto something here… reminds me of the southpark episode where they play guitar hero get max score and game tells them they are losers or something for doing it.

Rampagers gear is fine here, a good amount of people will tell you otherwise but with the illusions applying bleeds on crits that extra condition damage is the same damage or more than the extra crit damage.

yeah i dont utilize the shatters hardly at all so i do see that bleed crit damage…

Ive been doing this build forever now with almost no change. Ive tried torch, dont like it, focus, dont like it but switch to it for speed then back, pistol stun doesnt give the damage spike i get from the block.

so how crazy am i for doing this?

I was out wandering around in the wvw map after doing the jumping puzzle daily… I like to stalk a few victims before doing the pve daily before doing the spvp daily. Anyways I find another mesmer, I am a mesmer too. Now I dont know about all this shatter buisness… frankly I hardly even use my shatter utilities. Point is that this guy… opens up on me with some shatter combo while im not even looking at the screen, I target, wtf stacks of might on him… so naturally… Arcane Thievery and kill him pretty smooth with GS/S/S.

My opinion is that this change will encourage better pregame team strategy. Teams will consider how to deal with condition heavy enemy teams, ect, and who/how their team will be able to deal with that. For example, “better make sure jake has field type X and sam has finisher Y that way they can spam aoe condition removal if they need it.” This will take more “skill” than everyone just switching utilities/weapons/traits on the fly to be able to do anything on their own.

I have a masters level degree in computer science and in trying to solve hugely complex problems with potentially millions of combinations of factors.

This game’s PvP system feels like that. There are SO many possible interactions among the class attacks, defensive moves, timing factors, and debuffs… that it will never be balanced for all players.

It’s what they call a “combinatorial explosion”.

For one thing, new players and experienced players are playing two different games. New players don’t know how to counter Hundred Blades. Experienced teams now often don’t even bother to bring a warrior to tPvP because the warrior is shut down by players who understand how to counter the warrior.

Balance the game for experienced players, and the noobs get smashed.

In that respect, ArenaNet is absolutely correct to FIRST: get ranked matches working. Let people play against people with the same limited knowledge and skills.

That, and their plans to revamp the sPvP points system to reward a different sort of play style.

That may be all they will be able to ever achieve, as far as leveling the playing field.

I took a class called linear algebra in college that dealt with matrix opperations… seems like some function of the skill damage matricies and the time vectors should be set to equal zero and solved for the necessary equalibrium. Balance thru math! But ill leave setting up that equation to someone like you because i get a headache just trying to outline the structure of it mentally.

Mesmer Blurred Frenzy needs fix?

Compared to the other channeled melee abilities (p. whip,

hblades, etc) Blurred Frenzy is the only one that AUTO-FACES in

the targets direction. That means even if I try to move behind

the mesmer he just auto-matically turns around and continues to

hit me.

It will auto-face even during the middle of the channel.

Why does Blurred Frenzy have this auto-facing, while HB and PW

doesn’t?

sounds like a l2p issue. Blurred Frenzy roots mesmer. if you are being hit by it then you are bad. also you are bad if you dont know to hold right mouse button to auto turn yourself to face your opponent during channeled abilities.

You asked me about drawbacks that ive experienced in structured pvp mesmer play…

I have to say the main drawback is that the class is squishy squishy and once the meta game matures and people learn how to play against mesmers things are going to be much tougher. right now people get fooled by clones some of the time and I dont expect that will last. Also people will learn to deal with stealth too.

lets see drawbacks… well the mesmer is really not a forgiving class at all. it takes really excelent control of your mesmer ie really good w-a-s-d ect ect positioning awareness to make it work. no margin for error because being half a second late on a stun break will mean you die every time.

I also mentioned that as far as burst damage goes I just dont see it on my sword/sword/greatsword dueling build. Its more about consistent damage and evasiveness to wear down the enemy and exploit their weaker gaming skills with my superior character control…

stun break, immunity, damage reducer, or w/e you have to break out of the stun or defend yourself (If you do not have at least one of these on your bar, you’re doing it wrong)

cant tell you how many times having a couple get out a jail stun breaks on the bar has won the fight.

some thoughts….

I mained a mesmer from the get go because i liked the concept not to be flavor of the month so that said…

Ive noticed that mesmer utilities that give access to stealth ie decoy, mass invis, wall that grants invis all are huge for being able to get in and get out. can pretty much survive by running in a pinch and thats a huge plus!

blink is probable the best though because its a get out of jail free card with the relocate and stun break, cant count how many times that has saved my kitten.

damage… well greatsword 1 (the main ranged attack) is lackluster but reliable, mirror blade with its bounce can be “ok” and the knock back is good utility but nothing too fancy.

sword mainhand is all about number 2 that hits like a truck and makes invincable during channel. requires standing still though so anyone with a brain cell will dodge back and wait it out. pretty good though to pop it out on theves/warriors who are trying to power you down and hope they are burning some good abilities during the distortion.

I try and get out the greatsword phantasm and the swordsman phantasm (sword offhand for the block) they can give damage a bump but its hit and miss with them.

clones on dodge are really really nice… Some people can tell the difference but others will follow the clones around to their demise. I figure its just a mater of time till people figure out how to identify the real mesmer and them the meta game will shift and clones will be shatter fodder and nothing else.

is mesmer op? I dont know… Ive only ever played mesmer and I have a lot of structure pvp experience from warhammer online so I think of myself as a kitten good player. So taking down theves warriors gaurdians necros eles other mesmers 1v1 to me feels pretty normal because when they are good its a challenge but two good people can almost always take me down if they work together… thats where the cloaking run away pick your fights stealthy utilities come in.

o and one last thing… moa is lame sauce and I use mass invis for an extra get out of jail free card…

just some extra opinion in case someone can make some use of it. have a nice night!

I will help you… Clones always have one weapon. If the real mesmer is sword/pistol the clone will only be holding sword and will not be holding a pistol. Clones do not mimic off hand weapons. only time you might have a problem is gs/staff but then remimber clones die stupid fast so you have to be dumb to not notice your on the wrong target. O and clones do no damage so… also clones have really bad ai… clones run to you stand there and do basic attack and that is it. If youre to dumb to not see the difference then you deserve to eat the loss.

yeah i leveled a mesmer first then tried a warrior and was stunned at how easy mode it was. the signet regeneration is completely over the top and trivializes pve. mesmer is “dodge or die”, “kite to survive” and warrior is supperior damage and laughing tank the damage.

I think that the mesmer has highest skill cap.

i.e. —> people who are good will be great with mesmer and people who play bad will be extra bad with mesmer because its very unforgiving.

its one of those classes where you have to dodge everything perfect and hit your skills at just the right time while having amazing situational awareness and top notch character control or else its a train wreck. but if you can do it then you are like this “naked mesmer” and every other class calls for nerfs.

Im sure that im doing a non standard thing by actually taking sword for off hand but I actually use the block a lot and the phantasm does pretty good damage too. Issue Im seeing is that retaliatory shield seems to only proc retaliation for one second instead of the three advertised by the tooltip. Also noticed that the retaliation is for one second no matter when during the channel the block happens.

Anyone else seeing this? Know if its a confirmed bug?
