Aouch, there seem to be worse pvp population than I could imagine. The system needs to be in place in order to get spvp working properly, however getting people to come play the game to increase gaming experience is another thing. I know they are going for fixing things first, then market it out to players and hope for their return. But shouldn’t be any surprise that the wait is long bros? Im just happy that some people are patient and understanding and actually playing and testing things out, without you guys any kind of progress would be hard to make happen. Hopefully you keep on struggling facing eachother again and again… at least you are contributing to something that might gain us all in the future.
I left a couple of years(lol typo meant months :P) ago, because my friends left so Im just checking in every now and then hoping for things to get stirred up right. Keep it up, I must say I’m impress you have lasted this far… help the devs to give us a good pvp game to return to!
Well, there will probably always be certain builds that outperform others, but they can change somehow. The meta so far has just had tweaking to the good builds, a guardian is always some kind of bunker, mesmer are glass, thieves are glass, warriors are glass, engineers has been bunkers, rangers has barely been played. Elementalists, however, have had viable glass builds but also viable bunker builds so that’s probably the only profession that has had viable options.
I dont know exactly how to change it, I think overall weapons needs to be looked through, each profession has some weapons they never use… and the devs should think about why. I liked the idea of weapon swapping when first hearing about the game, but however it didnt turn out as flexible as I thought since strong builds makes each professions locked with certain weapon builds, and add to that traits build it’s kind of boring now.
I think solo queues would solve the option if you just play with a friend and can pug with rest. However, with custom arenas I guess it should be up to the “owners” to be able to create 3v3 tournaments, and 2v2 and 1v1… it should be the freedom of the one “owning” it, and I hope they dont limit it. Because in that way the players can fix what some of the players wants, but balance is still about 5v5… because it’s easier that way
SPvP needs to have some impact on your real-game character. Whether this is some way to gain gold, dailies giving laurels, or perhaps even some form of experience gain. There is no real motivation for people to SPvP besides to further increase their SPvP toon, which while it’s the same character, is left completely separate for some reason.
I dont really think so. Selling dyes gave me quite some gold, enough to eventually buy another character slot or two, and that and extra bag slot is pretty much all you need if you are an spvp:er =)
I want solo queues.
It doesnt have to be intstead of hotjoins, because hotjoins is a good place for devs to try new maps, new game modes.
However, I do feel that solo queues very well can take the place of free tournaments because they will be useless.
Hotjoin is a place for you to fast join, try a new build or whatev and then leave when you feel like it, and it should stay they way it is because it’s as casual as it can be but also a place for pro people to go and try a new build, a new profession without ranks or whatev being affected.
Just my opinio =)
I like it that the devs are open to other game modes. It will be interesting to follow the future of that. However, I do believe that if they ever get the players to try death match, they will notice that there’s no turning back :P You guys think it will ever happen, or will they try any other gamemode first?
If you want to play solo, hotjoins (maybe 5vs5 maps instead of 8vs8 zerg fests) and free tournaments are that way.
You want to play paids? join a pvp guild or form a pug (and with guesting, the “my server’s mist is empty” does not apply anymore)If you haven’t got the time, or don’t want to put a little of effort in the pvp (which makes you a casual player), stick to the casual side of pvp.
If that would be fine already noone would discuss this. However people dont want to pug paids, people are tired of frees and hotjoin and they left the game. The current model is lacking and you can say “accept that”, but the big issue in this game… if you have missed it, it’s that the pvp players left the building… and you can stand and say “accept that” to those few remaining players but it doesnt improve the game nor increase the playerbase
Good we don’t want you anyway. If your that quick to leave then leave.
I think frees should have a solo queue. I mean they changed their tune when we asked
For the current paid system over and over.We can hope I guess
FYI they already left, and if you are happy with the tiny playerbase that do exist now… well fine. However, considering the GW2 game model, I think the devs do want more players.
Personally I liked how they did in bloodline champions, dont know if it’s same in the MOBA games… but that there are solo ladder where you get ranks depending on your individual performance in PUGs, and then there are team ladder where the performance are ranked for how well the team does. And then every night there are some tournaments, where the premade teams get to show their strenght for the better rewards. But as a solo player you could play as you pleased and try progress through bronze, silver or whatev.
What I got from the show tonight it seemed like one of the jons was into the idea of having two kind of tournaments, while other jon more wanted the pugs to grind and never progress above mid, facing eachother and the good dudes to fight on the top. Sure, probably might happen… but as it is today you must get a team before you can join and personally I dont think it’s worth it… I have limited gametime and cant spend hours hoping to get a team, I want to queue, get matched and then gtg
I know the map isnt out yet, thought we were discussing that patch?
Im waiting for it too, since my friends are less likely to come back to this game and I left playing other games with them instead. However, I dont even know if ANet ever confirmed there will be solo queues… think it has mostly been a request from the community but not sure if it’s even something they want to do.
Hopefully one day, since this game need to get more pvp players… they lost so many. I do, however, think that it wont be available in this patch… so for us it’s try the new map in hotjoin and that’s about it.
I might login to check out the new map, but my friends quit the game so I have no team… and since I don’t believe you can solo queue the ranked tournaments there’s nothing else for me in the game yet… will probably keep on rocking planetside2. So, it’s not really the pvp patch of the motherlord, those with friends to form a team might come back but can’t imagine an explosion of returners :P However, a new map is a new map and even ninjaed in a capture the flag… that’s good.
They can always choose to delay it, if it isn’t ready yet :P
Im guessing they already lost so many players, the ones still sticking around will continue to stick around while they focus on get back the other players later. Not really an issue there I think tbh.
So, I dont have many high hopes for the patch… havent played for some months, just check this forum every now and then to see if they actually manage to stir things up. So far it just seems it’s too long left until the spvp in this game will be worth the gaming hours again
It is supposed to be the pvp patch of the motherlord, it was the promise… not before and after christmas because they needed to rest with their families during the holidays. So we had to wait a little, like we always do, but with promises that february is pretty much a pvp focused patch, where all our love will be.
To me, lo and behold, I believe it when I see it. But there will be a blogpost “soon” with more info… at least they said so, usually it contains a copy past of things they already said.
I’ll probably be back-“ish” if they improve pvp in this game in a patch. However, my friends most likely wont. They were sceptical at start with the pvp game mode and while they did have some fun with it in the beginning, the other flaws of the game (bugs, lack of differences in build options, lack of updates and communication, balance) they finally didnt bother to play anymore. We all play other games now, but if coming back I will do it alone and most likely spend majority of my little game time in other games and just a little in GW2. That’s why I hope that there will be better ways to progress solo.
I think only thing that would make my friends consider coming back and try a little is new game modes, but that involves also that bugs finally are gone and some proper balance implemented. This game need to start rewarding skill a bit more, and many of the builds in game right now doesn’t really reward it.
The road is long to get there, and even though there’s no serious competition in mmorpg pvp being released this year I’d say it’s better if ANet really bust their energy on trying to catch and bring back players who enjoy competitive pvp in mmorpgs, because as soon as some serious competitor start smelling launch, and manage to pull things off in a better way there will be no more chances for ANet to recover spvp in this game. Please make best use of your time, there is no better timing than now.
Ah, I just thought so. Sure its understandable that people love me, but two mails with I love you in the subject with typical goldseller/spam user names I didnt bother to open those messages, seeing what you other post here it’s obvious what the messages contains. Please do something about this
rtnieuwboer.6071: getting error when trying to quote you, but can you tell source to that statement? Cant find it in any place a player should be able to find it.
Even if it was true, it smells more like pve to me… making the world worth visiting and stuff… we know the story. And yesterdays big announcement overall seems to be some hoax made up gossip… stop doing that players, why not add source before claiming stuff like that?
Also I think many people already left, there are more games than GW1 and waiting for titan… also titan might be world of diablo and dont know if that makes me overwhelmly excited :P Planetside2 is my pvp game atm, really enjoyable. But being a purple vanu is as close to a pink asura you can get so I want my cute fix and I like gw2 combat and mesmers (could use more spec options to them though) and I hope something will be happening. So far the players spread rumours that the devs one day will talk to us and very little is out officially in what to expect… so seems like continuing taking a break, read patch ones they hit and take it from there.
I also think many people writing in this forum isnt playing anymore, but owning the game means they can write in here so it’s not a “dont quit, wait a little”, more like “wait, perhaps there will be reasons for you to come back”
Why is everyone expecting a big announcement today? People write about it but I cant find it being officially stated anywhere? Please link the info.
Anyway, it will be a break patch because they wont be able to make enough updates in time. It’s still an unfriendly game for a casual to play. All my friends bought the game and all left and we just made a team. I find it hard that anything in this game will bring my friends back so what will I do on my own? Then we need possibility to progress on your own like the big pvp games out there, and that don’t seem to happen soon and is what will make the pvp in this game appealing to a larger crowd.
But well, lets hear what the man has to say… but I seriously think that as a solo player or with just one bro around to play with… continuing the break from the game for longer time is what’s happening. Hopefully give us reason to come back, if we cant solo compete… at least add more map options for hotjoin… wont appeal to a larger crowd but will make the game a bit more amusing for the casuals that do choose to play this game.
It was the only issue tbh, no variety in team setups… goes for builds as well. Only eles swapping to staff around trebucher but they buffed treb last patch to sort that out… other than that people just wanted to swap to move faster after ress… and that is way less of an issue compared to no team setup variety
This isn’t about variety. This is about pressing B and looking at the other team’s comp and hard countering it. That should not be in the game.
If they want to keep it they should do it like wow arena, you dont see other team at all until timer hits 0. Then there would be no B to hit and counter and would make pvp much more interesting and challenging.

Exactly, thank you for reminding me, where in the **** is the ladder ranking?
New players come into the PvP life of Gw2 to be crushed by people who have been playing for a while, get discouraged and stop playing PvP all together. Why do they not realize this?
Exactly. This kills a huge amount of player base for sPvP. What are they waiting for? New Years? Match making/Ladder should of been in place within a month of launch. This is getting ridiculous. Whats the point of PvPing if there is no challenge/satisfaction from becoming good at a profession?
Well they actually said in the state of pvp vid GW2 guru made that they are waiting for new year with ladders and stuff. But they said this patch would have lots of balances :P Anyway, they are taking christmas holiday so we have to wait until january
Im still wondering about character swap between games, is it included in this?
hate to break it to you but most of us were expecting something else happening to thieves. A secret is that all mesmers play glasscannon, I would try the backstab combo if I were you.
And obviously, condition build is a powerful build as well, as backstab pros, as pistolwhip and now p/p. It’s not that thieves expose it… it’s just that everything they do is much stronger than what anyone else do. Just try and play one, you dont even need that much practice to get rewarded and glory pouring in, that’s why there are 90% thieves in hotjoins for example. It’s just obvious, and players leave, and developers can’t see what’s happening and now with time almost running out… the effort is spent on underwater combat.
Well bunkers should survive backstab pros, mr engineer, but not all professions got viable bunker builds…. and the only option for them is going pure glass cannon. Go pure glass cannon and come back and tell us how you feel about thieves again.
There are so many issues that cant be explained but are obvious, and when developers fail to see obvious and focus on games underwater where only sharks hang out and ignore the rest… I dont know what to say tbh.
So I guess character swap between games are still allowed then?
Yea, them priorities… why can we never understand them? No hotfixes, balance in big patches, underwater combat more important than on land (since e-sport will be more viable when capricorn isnt even in the rotation? yes… you are making players feel sane about your reasoning), after posts and posts about thieves in forum… why not buff the only little weak weapon setup for thieves and ignore the rest, it will make e-sport more viable for sure, it makes sense to the community. Oh and… well, I dont know what to say tbh… and I doubt the “transparancy” that never show when the devs explains their reasoning to us will make us understand their logic better.
I dont even feel the need to log in and try the patch, giving them a chance to next year…
Now just make some weapons useful for other things than some speed after having ressed, else I cant see them anywhere else then in our pvp lockers.
But really, weapon swapping isnt really the issue, the issue is people changing characters completely between games giving us same kind of setups on all maps… not interesting gameplay at all… and I dont think that got fixed in this patch right? (want to be corrected as being wrong here
)
Or we can save you the touble:
No, not yet. In january maybe :P
So, you managed to fill one paid tournament as a total? Impressive, GJ
No fix to current thieves, no. Because only a little weak build for thieves was p/p… so just buff it and make all builds OP =)
yawn, nothing to see in this patch then… see you in january and what happens then! ’til then, enjoy 90% teams thieves… heartseeker pros, backstab pros, pistol whip pros, condition pros… I dont know what p/p signum is but embrace that as well. So… 17 of january something else might happen then?
I use world of warcraft cataclysm mouse. It’s a perfect mmo mouse, and yes… extra keys are useful in competitive pvp. It also lights up in your colour of choice, mine got pink light now so I use my hello kitty mouse on my laptop instead… and laptop I dont use for games =) Anyway, wow cata mouse should be relatively cheap now and it’s I highly recommend it
You can use town clothes in heart of the mist.
Tbh, the town clothes aren’t done for being pvp gear at this point. However they would make money if they made sweet looking gear that actually are “rune:able” and without town clothes “special effects” that people could use in pvp and that they sold in gemstore. They shouldnt be better looking than current gear, but cute gear and perhaps some a little more epic, and a little more expensive.
Since we know we will only get some balance fixes, it is what we are going to get. It will be interesting read, but I will probably keep on waiting for what january/february will put on the table for us
Its a matter of reality, I understand people enjoy getting a master killing oneshot combo, because it’s fun killing others in game. However, everyone thinking twice know that oneshotting as possibility don’t belong in a viable e-sport. A game needs to be more balanced and interesting than that, and it’s one of the major balance issues for the e-sport spirit of the game. Sure people can counter it, but it simply shouldnt be there to start with… e-sport needs to demand more from it’s players.
You are not the dude with the wife problem that made a post a couple of months ago?=) That your gf got sad you killed her or whatev it is?
Well, I dont mind killing my bf or getting killed by him in game, but if we want to play together in same team we play free tournaments ofc. That’s how you solve it. Sure, if you cant get your other friends to fill the team it’s grouping with pugs and that’s same in hot join as well so what’s the problem really except perhaps getting less glory… might be worth it to be able to play together in same team at all times right? It’s also fairly easy to team swap in hotjoins, never been really an issue to us. I can’t see the problem really. There are options to play with your significant other…
I come from wow as well, but to me pretty much any other mmo out there is better than wow, and if you don’t feel the same well… it’s not a crime playing wow, and it’s also not a crime playing many different games for joy. Seems like you and gf aren’t into competitive business so you can just try out games a little here and there and play as you please and for fun.
However, when it comes to GW2 I explained that you can play with your gf at all time, in hotjoin (team swapping, if not available just leave and join another game… no punishment for leaving), and free tournaments… pretty much all spvp there is tbh. Try again =)
I haven’t even heard about dragons nest, however I did hear about talbadar and snutz helping out with the new forge game… that seems a bit like bloodline champions in different cover. I like bloodline champions, not saying anything else, but for some reason games like these are to tricky for casual joe and game settle for low population.
Ah well, at the moment planetside 2 fulfill my pvp need… lots of action and combat and many things to do. I didnt even like fps before but this game is really great… and Im as fps noob as one can be =) Highly recommend people to try while waiting for gw2 updates… it’s free as well =)
this is the source, Art:

The state of pvp show didnt mention new maps, just balance in december and big updates in january and february… one of them being a pvp patch (wvwvw though) and their first priorities = getting e-sport going with ladders, renting servers and eventually spectator mode. Maps, or different kind of maps isn’t on the priority list at this point.
I understand random players can dream, but random things posted by a random player should always be read critically… at least if there’s no source of confirmation. To back my post up a little better I give you this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hByqoWsnz-I
Strange with wvwvw yea.
Well, there are several abilities in game that do too much damage, it could be backstab combo, 100 blades and perhaps several more. Sure, you can learn to deal with it, but it’s not good for an e-sport game if any profession got the ability to oneshot other players… deal with it or not it just shouldn’t be there. And they need to do something about that if not sooner at least later, if they are serious about e-sport thingie.
I think that ladders and ability to rent private pvp servers are first priorities atm, and it seems like those things wont happen until january – february. When that’s done there’s still spectator mode that needs to be fixed and… well, getting the e-sport features to work. After that there might be new game modes, but I wouldn’t expect them until somewhere after first or perhaps even second quarter next year.
I logged in one time after a couple of weeks break to check out colour system in pvp. Working nice, which is a fun feature. Both teams had 90% thieves… working as intended?
Well, listening to the state of pvp show it seems like continuing taking a break is a good idea… until january – february patches. Hopefully good things happen then.
Will people return even through some kind of heavy marketing? Well, people who left still know how long time it takes for ANet to fix things. Blockbug lasted way long, and having developers priorities that hotfixes are bad… and if they are done, some candy corn in the world is worth more to fix than the blockbug? I dont know how they came to that conclusion, but I cant see any player complain if there are more hotfixes rather than less and especially in a game that still got so many “childhood flaws” left. Traits and abilities are still bugging too much, what’s the problem with hotfixing for anyone? I can’t understand their philosophy, I really can’t. I haven’t played that many mmos, but enough to get used to hotfixes happening and quite fast and following forums in those game noone has posted complaints about hotfixes happening, more that players are expecting them to happen.
And I think that’s the main issue with bringing people back, that players remember that changes takes too long to implement… and bugs aren’t dealth with directly. And as the state of the pvp interview said… that’s how things will continue to be in this game.
It will be interesting to follow what happens, I was really excited for this game and I love playing asura and having pink dyes and I also like the playstyle with dodging and there are many good things around that. However now Im playing another new launched pvp only mmo, and with limited gametime there’s where I will be for quite a while. I want to return to GW2 but there’s at least some months left until it’s worth it, and I hope ANet makes it worth it, because all we people want in this forum is the spvp in this game to work and the game to succeed in that field… and we got our gametime to offer them if they do.
My favourite map as well =) Good job Anet =)
I LoL@queues.com
Does it mean that the queues are still long or?
I find guardians way easier to kill now, seem balanced to me.
Overall it’s quite decent balance now, except thieves that they seem like they cant get right. Everything they have is strong, and they are still all over the place oneshotting things. That’s the ruin of the gameplay. Give them a proper fix, as it is now an overall damage nerf is what is needed. Then the game will be a ok. Or well, buff rangers a bit… I feel sorry for them when I meet up against them =(
I liked what they did in this patch but sure there’s still quite a bit left.
Ladders would be great, I would like something like bloodline champions where you can get solo progress if you pug, through bronze league up to gold or whatev, or you get group ranking from organized tournament teamplay through similar ladders. And ofc split the two. Being able to progress against equal teams is quite important.
I dont mind if they keep the map style in tournaments, but it would be fun with other modes in hotjoin… the more maps the more fun when you spend an hour of your own in game.
The babyfat needs to be gone at some point, months have passed and there are still too many bugs. This needs to be a priority every week, small patches with bugfixes… instead of launching them with a large content patch once a month at best. More bugfixes and hotfixes. They can remove candy corn bug from the world in a hotfix but guardian block bug took way longer. It sure makes the playerbase question priorities.
I finished monthly achivements first day it hit. That gives another 29 days for people to finish as well. How long did you try? 0_0
Well, I played shadowpriest in wow, through good days and bad days. Guess I would do the same with mesmer. The playstyle is so fun and I cant find another class appealing enough to swap.
Hello! I havent wvwvw since many weeks due to the long queues at Gandara server. How are they these days? Wonder if me and my friends can give it another try, we have limited game time and can’t wait several hours in queue. We like the server and dont want to change… so are there still heavy peak hour queues so we should wait some more before trying it out again or is it possible to take part these days? Anyone know?
Now that they buffed torch this patch and scepter last patch I was thinking about making a build using those weapons and perhaps staff? Anyone got tips on good builds and what stats to use on runes and jewels? I dont know how conditions respond to condition damage or what to use?
Please post if you know anything good.
It’s for spvp and tournament play Im interested in… =)
