Underflow for PvE

You are lucky then, I spent quite a lot of time in map chat encouraging people to DE and GE and at most 1-2 people would show up if I was lucky, majority of the time no one and the event did not get done.

Perhaps it is a server specific thing, your server might have a lot of active pve players, mine not so many. Also I was talking in general and not specifically during halloween, it has been pretty barren where I am located.

Curiously having just completed the MK week where many of the times I was on I was on overflow servers because of the high population of players I ran into some old friends who are not on my server but just by chance were on the same overflow.

This random chance meeting seemed to indicate something to me about how potentially ANet could make areas more populated in PvE.

Whilst the starter areas are relatively decently populated anything higher than that and you will rarely ever see another player. My second 80 with 100% completion barely 2 months after the game is out struggled to find anyone to do dynamic events, group and world events (which are not dragons) with. Now I am on my third and already in certain low level areas it is very rare to see another player. The game feels abandoned and extraordinarily lonely. The whole idea of being in 1 big party that everyone is a part of is hard to feel enthusiastic about when you never see anyone and hardly anyone participates in events now.

Going back to the random encounter in the MK event seems to indicate that there is come capacity to have different servers overflow into the one area. Why not use that capability to underflow low population pve areas so they are more busy so people can do the content?

Aside, what happens when the population drops right off? Certain Group and World events are already at the point where they don’t get done at all, is that a portent for the future of all events in Tyria?

I was excited till I read “one time event”.

Be nice if the drake in the pic was a limited time tamable pet.

I hear you, I’m grateful for new content to be added to GW2 but considering how the last “one time event” was handled for certain timezones I am somewhat reluctant to be enthusiastic about these “one time events”.

That said the MK breaking the LA statue was also marketed as a one time world changing event too and that was a short cinematic that even people that could attend had issues with, so if that is all it is going to be I will probably be indifferent.

I’m not going to point fingers but I have got tower running down to a fine art and just this one set of runs there was a player (a necro) who was consistently way ahead out in front of everyone and I normally lead the pack out with a decent gap and yet when I reached the end he was always standing there on the stairs event though I never saw him pass me once on the way up. The one run I did see him he appeared on a platform I was on, yes just popped into existence (not a fade in, just appeared). Now I don;t know if that is culling, latency or other related but it certainly didn’t seem normal and certainly not at the rate this player was getting up the tower.

Is player concurrency going to be the sole determining factor in deciding what time 1 off events will occur from now on?

I also enquire as to why the event cannot be on repeat or instanced like the personal story that would not lessen the impact of anyone who missed out. Effectively if the concurrency assessment for timing events is used from now on the only way a lot of players in certain timezones will get to experience it is through youtube.

" At least this way, everyone has a chance to experience it in the game, without having it spoiled by the rapid availability of video on the Internet."

Really is spoilers the biggest concern here or some other technical matter?

Is the update the reason why the game lags hard?

i did notice this in WvW tonight, only what i can describe as packet loss, players and enemies teleporting everywhere, seems to be specific to GW2 when jumping in other online games. It was less noticeable in PvE but still there.

The patch claims to have fixed this issue so I put the authenticator back on and im starting to get d/c again.

I removed the authenticator and I have not experienced a d/c so far. This is obviously a bad solution, I will put it back on and see if it starts to d/c again.

I did not have this issue prior to the patch, however coincidentally I also have added the google auth to my account today so I will remove it and see if that make any difference.

More information:
Switched from that armour set to full duelist – sound is gone.
Reached end game and bought full set Norn Cultural Tier 2 – sound came back.
It is really irritating considering how kitten loud it is compared to all other ambient sounds.

No that is not correct, this is definitely a bug now.
I’m doing mapping of all the cities on my norn character and I get the entry dialogue to enter an instanced area in any major city but once inside will not get any exit dialogue and have to exit to character select to get out or use a waypoint.

You know, I don’t think he was bugged at all, compare how that fight is to say tequatl or shatterer to give you an idea of how they concepted dragon fights to simply be, dragon is a set piece with 1-2 moves (usually breath, fly) and you shoot it with cannons for a while and then it dies and you get merch food. I think ALL the dragon fights are disappointing, ANet could have done so much more with them and I sincerely hope they do in the future with the other generals and dragons.

I have struggled with a ton of content when I have been on across every zone because of a lack of interested players, imagine my reaction when I am confronted with the no choice you have to party to finish the personal story dungeon. I stood outside of the dungeon for nearly an hour spamming LFM/LFG before I got 1 person to join and an additional 30-45 minutes before the party eventually filled out. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the dungeon with the exception of the end boss fight which was disappointing in another fashion but the requirement to party for it should not have been in there and it perhaps should have followed the structure of the previous missions where you do not have to rely on a full party of players just to do the content. My query is what happens to players who make it to the end of the story late? Players who are in the wrong timezone? Never mind the lacklustre junk we got at the end we are barely two months out from release and struggling to find a party to simply complete story mode is not on.

Are there any plans to do something about the empty zones?

I would be curious to see how ANet plan to deal with player retention due to what the OP mentioned because at the moment working through on a second character I am skipping quite a large amount of content purely because there is no one around to do it or the scant few players I do see are not interested. This essentially has reduced me to soloing what content I can and doing reknown hearts which is frankly becoming boring and annoying.

I feel the game world is empty now, the largest groups of players (pve) I encounter are one of two:
World Events.
Bots.

Not particularly inspiring I think.

reset sound settings to default, ignore haste that was accidental dodge at start. can actually here the clink sound whilst im in the options menu.

sound is present with footsteps in armour and town clothes (mistaken in previous post), absent when naked.

What is going to happen to future new players when the population is settled at level 80 grounds?

You know I was going to post something similar yesterday but forgot to so I will add my reply here.

I am experiencing this right now. I am on my second character and being quite thorough with zone completion, my thief is level 75 having done every zone up to the level 60 odd zones.

What have I found is that since about the level 25+ zones is that is is becoming rarer and rarer to encounter players and also people who want to be involved in DE. This has put a significant damper on questing since GE are unsoloable and some DE are very problematic to solo. Essentially even though I talk in map chat encouraging players to do DE at most 1-2 players show up and whislt that is enough sometimes the majority of the times I have been fighting by myself with a rare glance at that ever elusive other player in the area.

I am on my second character barely a month and a bit since the games release and this is my experience already. The only events that seem to attract people are the WE which whilst fun is definitely not the only thing to do.

additional info:
- if i remove my armour (naked), noise is absent.
- if i put my armour back on, noise returns.
- if i switch to town clothes, noise is absent.
- i can hear the noise on my friends ranger.
- i reinstalled audio drivers suspecting that, no fix.

I will attempt to get a recording of the noise as well.

Thief Stealth sometimes useless

this happened on my thief yesterday when fighting victurus. over agro on his army and stealthed to escape, devourer and branded char kept following me and then executed ranged attacks killing my character. Only thing I can think of is that if a mob has started their attack but you move out of range they will move into range and finish the attack before disengaging. This of course makes stealth completely useless as a mechanism for escape.

Did anything in the audio department or audio engine change? Post Oct 1 patch my thief has become very noisy with a constant rattling of keys sound when moving around. Perhaps this was always there and more subdued but now I have noticed it is quite loud and actually quite irritating. I also incidentally noticed footsteps are quite loud now as well.
