Lets not count BG out so fast, who knows what is going behind the scenes among their wvw guilds is temporary or permanent. Only when they get crushed 2 weeks in a row and dropping points fast will I call them imploded. They might just take SOR’s spot of lacking coverage but still be a solid 3rd putting up a good fight or they might bounce back.
lol is that the new dungeon content or whatever?
Man I have no idea about anything going on other than wvw
tl:dr
Super Adventure Box is Arenanet’s April Fool’s holiday dungeon that just came out. It pays homage to oldschool video games.
Now that the holiday weekend is over
lol looks like your playing minecraft…
This is proof that I am not a hardcore enough of a WvWer. What is the gag “PVE” content I’m doing when I should be defending the honor and pride of my server! >.>
Super adventure box > wvw right now
I spy a forum warrior and it looks angry~

SOR needs more SEA guilds badly in order to make a balanced NA T1 tier, but I’ll let a more knowledgeable person from that server make a post.

If you are getting one shot as a guardian in open world PvE, you are doing something wrong. Most likely you have not updated your gear (costs 5-15s)
If you want to just level running around the open world and worry about finding people, guest on Tarnished Coast or Jade Quarry.
I’ve got the best gear I could find, if you can recommend where to get some I’ll go take a look.
- Press O (trade post)
- Click Trade Post icon on left.
- Click Search Filter next to search box
- Edit the level range to the closest increment of 5 at or under your level (i.e. you’re level 37, select 35 to 35 gear)
- Check Armor under Category, then search
- Go through until you find the armor prefix you want (for level 35 guardian, let’s say you want strong scale….type “strong scale” into the search box)
- Type prefix in search box, then search
- Buy what you need.
For Weapons, do the same, but select weapon as category and the weapon(s) you want as the sub category.
Don’t forget to keep you trinkets updated, those rings, earrings and neck-piece can really boost your attack or defensive stats. I came back to my engi alt after not playing him for a few months and was wondering why he felt really weak until I checked my gear. He was a level 34 wearing level 10 trinkets.. after spending a few silver at the TP I was back to leveling and melting mobs.
Also, always put a Sigil of Bloodlust on your main weapon:
“+5 Power each time you kill a foe. (max 25 stacks and ends on down)”
After killing 25 mobs you’ll have +100 power, for only 2.5ish silver this is a no-brainer.
So is this why you want Kaineng in T1, you think they’ll just hit JQ and leave BG alone. I know very little about Kaineng but I’m sure they aren’t such obedient lapdogs.
A lot of WvW builds aren’t very good at dueling. I’ll fight anyone 1 vs 1 on my mesmer or thief, but my staff ele is running if I’m not with a zerg. Just is what it is.
This server has great history and a great NA prime time, just needs more euros and asians to round out the force.
Maybe this is related to the Omnomberry nerf, glass cannons can’t rely on it to endlessly regen health for them anymore to survive so they go more defensive.
I don’t have to farm CoF and Cursed Shore as much to support my WvW? I am so happy right now I just giggled~
I just got my thief to 80 and decided to gear tanky at first and slowly replace it with more glassy stuff as I get more comfortable with this class. I bought all PVT “Soldier” armor and accessories and stuck ruby orbs in everything and am running with a shortbow for ranged fighting. For melee combat I’m not sure what works best for a power build, probably d/d, d/p or s/p I assume? Anyone have a good build and which utilities to run as a starting point so I can get an idea on how to build? Thanks!
I’ve seen something similar done before in another mmo called RF Online. There are 3 RvRvR events that resets every 8 hours, there is a seperate NA, Euro and Asia “prime time.” What I enjoyed is that you could get dominated in the Euro event, but since everything resets you can come into the NA prime time and start again on an even battlefield. Play to win your prime time instead of skating by and relying on your “night crew” to carry you.
Are you updating your armor? I would recommend getting new pieces off the trading post every 10 levels except for the chest, legs and weapons which I personally update every 5 levels (this might be excessive if you don’t have enough money, but 10 levels is the max I’d stretch a piece of armor). Also starting at level 10 you can start buying trinkets off the trading post, buy rings, necklace and earrings every 10 levels. I bought just the power ones and cut through mobs my level like butter. I went greatsword with a staff offhand and never had any issues leveling. Hope this helps.
edit: another tip is the buy the sigil of bloodlust and put it on the main weapon you will use. It is only 2.5ish silver and will give you +5 power for every mob you kill up to 25 stacks. So with 25 stacks you’ll have +125 power as long as you don’t die.

How is WvW in this tier? From the scoreboard it seems fairly even and T4 should be a little less zergy than T1 and hopefully less queues during NA prime time. Thanks for any info!
My only issue with mesmer is the lack of reliable swiftness that is available to all other classes besides guardians. You pretty much have to have a focus offhand, personally I’d love to be able to go GS/staff for fitting my play-style even if it isn’t optimal. I have a mesmer alt and my phantasms and clones mostly get aoe-ed before they reach the shatter target. But there is no doubt that mesmers bring a ton of god-like utilities and force multipliers to WvWvW. Time warp, mass invis, Feedback, portal, and null field are kitten near OP.
The fact that they kept on harping on how powerful trap rangers are shows how out of touch they are. Someone who doesn’t play GW2 would think that they were on par with d/d eles.. I’m not holding out much hope for any meaningful class balancing.
It is just a very unlikely pie-in-the-sky dream of mine, but I’d love it if the commanders were a weekly elected position. It would cost say.. 10 gold to run and only true level 80s could vote (no mass low level alts voting). There would only be say.. 15 positions available and it would be wise for servers to ensure that they had round the clock commanders coverage. Positions would be based on previous performance, and all the guild drama would add some extra fun. Anyone who has played Rising Force Online’s RvRvR should know what I’m talking about.
It sounds like you are having problems with ranger in pve leveling which is boggling my mind because that is the only part where the ranger really excels. Put a few points, maybe 10ish, into the bm traits line and get a bear or boar pet. Select a mob and tell your pet to attack it. Hit your auto-attack, alt-tab out of game and check your email or Facebook for 10 seconds, tab back in and collect the loot. Move on to the next mob. This is literally how I leveled my ranger to 80, ranger is the easiest and brain dead class to level with warrior a close second. With a few points, a buffed pet can easily take on 2 or 3 mobs and not give a kitten.

The thief’s clusterbomb has a sloooow arc, seems slower than the engi’s grenade flight time. That and the slower firing rate are the only things weaker than the ranger’s SB. I am so envious of their bouncing auto attack and their placeable poison combo field. Give those to us and I would have no complaints about the ranger sb.
pvt = power + vitality + toughness
htc = healing + toughness + conditions
You can figure the rest out.
Yeah I’m pretty much regretting buying exotic toughness/healing/con dam gear for my ranger, she hit harder in tough/healing/pow rares.. there goes 15 gold down the drain >.>
In my opinion the best build for a new ranger to WvW would be the tanky beastmaster, usually something like 0/0/30/10/30 but there are several variations floating around. The idea is that your pet’s damage isn’t based on your gear, so you build yourself to be tough with lots of toughness and health regen and you buff your pets so they do damage while you survive and assist your pet with CC and some damage. Look through the first few pages of the forum and look for the keywords BM, survival, bunker or tanky and you’ll find the builds.
I’m wondering how to gear my 0/0/30/10/30 ranger. Clerics (Power/Toughness/Healing) or Apothecary(Toughness/Healing/Condition) seem to make the most sense for the armor, and for the trinkets I guess I can go with Cleric/Apothecary/shaman for more durability, or maybe Rampager/Carrion for more killing potential. For the Runes.. Undead, Flock or Dolyak. The weapon sigil I have no idea. Any advice?
I’m finding that I function the best as a tanky BM build. I tried running as a glass cannon, but it seems I often get doubleteamed by hit-and-run stealth thieves or dagger/dagger eles for them to rush into the zerg to try to kill and get back out safely with their lame mistform/ride the lightening or stealth. Probably my positioning sucks or they like to single out the historically weak ranger. With this build I stay alive pretty kitten easily in most situations and can last until I get to friendly lines unless I really get zerged.
Anyhow my job is to stay alive to add my meager dps to focus fire targets, help revive downed team mates and to cast healing spring. Healing spring is so good I don’t feel guilty for not bringing any other utility.
My only experience with RvR is Aion and an unknown Korean grinder called Rising Force Online. I wish GW2 could copy a few of their features.
Set timers on castles and keeps so they only go active and can be attacked and taken once every 8 hours for say.. 4 hours. So 4 hours on and 4 hours off. This would create 3 distinct mass pvp events; NA, EU and Asia prime time. This would create some sense of urgency for commanders and servers to “win” their prime time. Also, you can log in and play WvWvW and log off feeling like you accomplished something instead of the current system where it is just an endless slog. You can set your clock to rally your server’s population to participate and might promote more skillful gameplay. Instead of a mass zerg zerging around, commanders need to be smart in order to get more points and capture more territory in that 4 hour window.
In the off hours you can still take supply camps which can provide buffs and supply, and the battlegrounds can be a good ol fashioned ganking on the JPs and small scale pvp map for guilds from different servers to smack talk and fight it out over who is better at killing and isn’t the spvp’s stale boring control point format.
I’ve decided to give my shelved ranger another try and an interested in some sort of tanky/healing build where my pet my pet does a decent damage and is pretty resilient while I do less damage but can take a few hits from burst classes and survive. I’m thinking about some sort of 0/10/30/0/ 30 or 0/0/30/10/30 using shortbow for range and some sort of sword or greatsword on the swap for when I get jumped by melee. As for armor I have no idea how to gear, some sort of PVT or something with healing or crit? And what runes and sigils would work? For pets I’m thinking fern hound and maybe jaguar.
I tried searching for builds and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Any help or links to a build would be greatly appreciated. Also keep in mind that I’m not exactly rich so what starter gear should I try this out with. I’m sure Apothocary gear would be nice but I’m not investing a ton of money into this experiment unless I really fall in love with ranger again.
I would recommend that the first 5 points you get should be put into the “Illusionists” line in order to get “Illusionists Celerity” which makes your illusion-spawning skills charge 20% faster. Leveling a Mesmer for the first 40 levels is a little rough because our best burst damage comes from shattering our clones, and this skill will make your leveling experience a little less painful. Mesmers don’t make clones fast enough until we hit lvl 40 when you can put 20 points into the “Dueling” line and get “Deceptive Evasion” which creates a clone every time you dodge. With this you’ll be shattering mobs left and right and killing stuff much faster.
As for weapons, I swear by greatsword, it is our hardest hitting ranged single target weapon. I use staff as a backup when I need to aoe or when mobs get too close. But try them all out and see which ones fit your style.
Every time I see a purely ranged warrior I think….. “Why? Just…. Why?”
Because some of us are rerolled rangers who want to pew pew with bows and guns and not be kittened by their pets who are supposed to make up a good portion of their dps and utility but erm… don’t.
I’m a newbie leveling a necro as well but I’m going with a power build using staff and a combination of ax/dagger or dagger/dagger. My utility skills are the 2 wells that do damage and the shadow/blood fiend. Gonna unlock my elite skill soon and will probably get the flesh golem. It works well for me, gather a few mobs and drop all your aoes. Auto attack and ax 2 clean up what is left.
So you want to play a short bow thief with traps and poisons.. so go make one.
Soo.. you picked the wrong class, go roll a thief if you want to wear medium armor and do crazy ranged damage all by yourself. Just don’t coma back here crying about being insanely squishy because you don’t have a meat-shield to soak up damage.
Ranger does more damage than engineer and is far harder to die than thief. I’d say ranger is the easiest class to level with since you have a pet to tank for you. But fun.. well if I wanted to I could watch tv and kill mobs via auto-attacking, and the skill animations are very bland compared to every other class. It is a bit sad that the warrior and thief’s bow skills are more exciting to look at.
But it is very hard to die while leveling as a ranger and you kill stuff moderately fast.
The issue is that Elementalist has an almost absurdly high skill ceiling, it is far more complicated than other classes. If you aren’t constantly switching between the elements than you are doing it wrong. You have to work 3 times as hard to achieve the same results as some other classes but the power is there.
Check out this ele pvp vid where an ele takes on multiple enemies, this is GW2 so you can’t claim gear advantage or pocket healers. Warning: turn the music off

I tried mesmer when GW2 first came out but deleted it after not “getting it” and finding it under-powered, but after watching your video I gave it another try and am having a ton of fun. For now my main will continue to be my guardian but mesmer will be there when I want a unique play-style that requires more finesse.
I first tried sword/sceptor & torch, and greatsword and found them underwhelming compared to the same load out on guardian but the staff.. chaos storm and armor is just too much fun.
