So exactly how much damage can a burst thief do against high toughness characters?

“I can tell you that on my warrior, I got hit with two hits in WvW from a thief. One hit was about 5K and the second hit was just under 12K. Yes I was dead. I never thought I would see a almost 12K hit but I did. Not sure what they both were but I think the 12k was backstab. I have a level 80 thief and I have no idea how he did that.”
My guess is he has full berserker’s gear and he has a full stack of bloodlust (+250 power). With certain builds he can do a number of stacks of Might as he activates poison and signets, and he is able to inflict 5 or 6 stacks of vulnerability. Stealing can do damage as well so he can do something like
Cloak + dagger = 5k damage,
Steal = 2k damage,
If he has superior rune of air = 2k damage
Backstab = 10 k damage.
they do way more dmg than that
wearing full exotic thoughnes precision and condition dmg plus orbs plus food
and heres the result
all this dmg done in less than 2 seconds evaded his backstab tho
ohh and becouse of this culling bug he can attack and we dont see thief
spirits in gw1 were soo much better
they had better buffs, debufs
they had way better range of effect
they didnt die in one shot
now we have usless spirits that can follow us and die in 1 hit with very low chance of giving us a buff
i beg you devs change the spirits and BM, Natural trait tree

wish they added guild halls, guild battles like in gw1 just a bit for more scale :P
use of my personal house district like add some farms where we could gather materials every 24h or something like that

thiefs are op and everyone knows exept the ppl playing thiefs becouse they never tried other classes
If you’re getting instantly owned by thieves on a guardian, you’re doing something wrong. I feel as though your gameplay ability may not be much better than your English. Also, you made it quite clear you don’t know what you’re talking about when you said the thief has a lot of HP. Thieves are one of the lowest HP classes.
thief can have 20k hp and still hit for 5k and run away from whoever is chasing him
other classes cant do it
Please revisit Cooking it's not a very attractive crafting profession anymore.

cooking is a waste of gold to lvlup
adding hunger to the game would be great and make cooking usefull now its just a useless profession
i have nothing against mount but:
1. they dont give you speed buff
2. make them gold sink you need to buy food for him
3. no flying mounts
i reported few bots about 2 weeks ago and they are still in same place botting 24/7

our attacks are soo weak and longbow attacks are easly evaded by strafing
pets that cant attack moving target, the useless spirits and pet skills (only protect me is good but the pet die in 1 second of using it)

please clarify all of the details of your dancing dagger hitting for 7.5K.
were you playing WvW? if so, what is the relative gear difference between yourself and your opponents? do you have Orbs of Powers?
basically what i’m saying is Dancing Dagger is NOT actually a high damage skill. if you go and play sPvP you will notice that it does 600-800 damage, not 6000 damage.
Theirs a video floating around of a ranger that kills groups of people with AOE in WvW. Those numbers are totaly possible but you need full exotic berserker/rampager gear for that and it only works against lowbies.
i would like to see that video with ranger killing everyone with aoe
and all thiefs say that thiers class isnt overpowered

crits for 1k 1 target

sure rangers shortbow shoot 2times faster but thief damage is way higher and hit more targets
your class is already overpowered
giving 1200 range to thief shortbow will make it more op
longbow does more damage if you hit the target
if target is strafeing(moving from side to side) means you cant hit target from long range means you do 0 damage
i dont see the usage for longbow in WvW or sPvP
the barrage is only good to harass ppl on walls they heal anyway but you can die going close to wall and rapid fire is easly evaded
Wrong game. Just play one of the million games that do this instead. This game is not about gear progression.
if its not about gear progression then i guess my level 3 shortbow will do just fine against a level 80 legendary shortbow?

You know exactly what I am talking about. You get exotic level 80 gear and you are set. There is no progression beyond that beyond that of aesthetics, as it should be. This is the game philosophy.
You are wrong if you think gear progress doesn’t exist in this game.

adding bonus stats to upgraded weapons is bad idea any bonus stat is just bad and imbalance the game
There needs to be an upgrade system where each item starts out at +1 and you can upgrade the stats by upgrading the item to +2 or +3, etc…
Each upgrade comes with a 50% chance of failure which would destroy the item.
This would add a whole new dynamic to the trading post and the in-game market.
Imagine Legendary items at +10.
Perhaps each time you upgrade the item it shines more or has more elemental effect to make the item looks cooler.

when i red that i assumed it was a debuff that made your reward shrink and lasted about an hour or two.

Notice how everyone who thinks it’s OP come up with the following situations:
I was fighting this guy and I was doing okay, and I was dodging all his skills and then
OMG A THIEF APPEARS OUT OF NOWHERE SPAMMING HEARTSEEKER AND KILLS ME, CLEARLY OP.No seriously, dodge heartseeker, slow the thief, blind the thief, daze the thief, immobilize the thief, run away. Heartseeker is countered by EVERYTHING.
and you think how many of cc every class have?
sure you can dodge 2 times and use 2 times cc at most
you still got hit 3 times
but if you play defensive you cant kill that thief he just stealth run away and come back at you with full 7x heartseekers
and if you start running you are dead becouse of backstabs
or make spirits like warriors banners
they are spirits after all
remove initiative and put cooldowns on thief skills and problem solved
no more 1 button win
or rise the initiative cost and remove the leap from heartseeker
or nerf the damage by 50%
your hdd is not good enough to load all the textures thats why you see players slowly loading on your screen
you should get a good SSD (i mean good not a cheap crap SSD :P)
I feel like the #3 skill needs work. “Revives your pet and calls them to your location”. First of all, if your pet is alive, even if it has 10% health, it will not be set to full health. Second, if the pet is not next to you, it won’t teleport to your side it will run to you, with the possibility of not making it in time or dying on the way because it ran through a ton of AoE.
I feel like the #3 ability should teleport your pet to your side at full health.

sometimes this skill just doesnt work, pet come to you and just stand still not healing you
all these ppl that say its easy to evade HB
you cant evade it if you play against good warrior
he will use Throw Bolas (cant break stun from that)
come close to you use his Signet of Rage (OP skill 30 sec buff with a 60 sec rechare thats way too low for elite skill) frenzy and put you down in 1 sec with HB
in case throw bolas fail he can bull charge you

I never understood what’s actually wrong with having dedicated classes.
This is an MMORPG, not everybody is befriended, not everybody uses teamspeak/ventrillo (as there’s a lack of ingame VoIP afaik) and not everybody speaks the same language (for example on european international servers)Having dedicated classes, everybody knows what his role is.
Without classes, without proper abilities to cover a certain role and without direct communication, it’s more or less pure luck if you succeed in dungeons or not.But of course … people are new to the game (remember, not everybody player GW and not everybody played Beta), many things are widely unknown and anything you find is always based on lvl 80, which is completely irrelevant if you’re lvl 35 and raise so much in level that it’s absolutely pointless spending even 1 silver on equip …
1. you would sit in town for 2 hours for healer (almost everyone want to play awesome DPS)
2. some classes are better than others in specific roles
3. its not luck, ppl need to learn to dodge and ress others not only DPS all the time

you get it only from salvaging rare 70+ or exotic gear
