OK, this could be pretty freaking awesome, but I want one of the skills to be “Gnaw Face.”
Myth has been a great asset since they returned as well, they are a good group of gamers.
Yep. Along with [Myth] in NA prime we’ve got [KWBH] which is rapidly growing, [Deth], [EXS], [StaR], the newly formed [vX] plus the long-time SBI guilds and players, doing good work. Our legendary EBG commander Bannok has been seen more and more on SBI BL, bringing his vast knowledge and calm leadership to the militia.
We’ve also got some amazingly experienced and dedicated siegers/scouters who continue to do what they do so well. For example, JF takes care of the northern half of SBI BL like it was his own child, and tower-defender extraordinaire, Holey, is back after a break. Yesterday he made sure the NE tower was sieged, defended and unflipped for 12+ hours straight. Despite the big gap between SOS and SBI+BP, it’s been a fun matchup so far.

Agreed. Solution, a guild must have at least one buff to claim a structure. All claimed structures are unclaimed when the guild buffs expire for the guild.
This is all we need, although I’ll add it should apply to camps as well.
SBI isn’t dying. We had a couple of medium-sized WvW guilds disband and one xfer, but many more are staying. We also have guilds who have transferred in or are beginning to transfer onto SBI and it will take them time to get all of there members over. So, at the moment, SBI is not quite as strong as it was as we are in a bit of a state of flux, but there is no dreaded “mass exodus” and the community is pulling together. Many people here are experienced and mature enough to know that nothing stays the same for long in a server’s WvW community. We roll with the changes, work to improve, and keep fighting. EotM is not helping as it has probably drawn a fair amount of our militia away from WvW, but I’m already seeing more activity back on the WvW maps.
Also, Maguuma seems to have added some guilds and decided to play for PPT moreso than in the past.
I encourage any guild with the following characteristics to strongly consider SBI:
- Work well with others
- Treat others with respect, and strive to avoid drama
- Have a positive, winning attitude
- Are willing defend key assets on any map, and to hop maps strategically
Let SBI be the destination for guilds and players with not only skill, but winning attitudes, determination, maturity and respect.

Need more specifics. Can someone put up a video of this? I’m in a mild panic, since siege is my specialty.
Bump for a good guild with their priorities in order.
This isn’t a bad idea. But I think it would need to be something along the lines of “Refresh 15 pieces of siege with 45 minutes or less remaining on the timer.” Granted, they still need to give us a way to destroy or recycle troll siege/poorly placed siege as this daily would encourage keeping that stuff refreshed, but that issue has been discussed into the dirt already.
EoE bomb would be hilarious. Would love to see 100 players die in 2 seconds
I think the point is that the enemy can never get there via legitimate means, unless I’m mistaken.
That location may very well have not been considered when they made the supply-draining feature, but if it’s a problem, it’s a low-priority problem, IMO.
2. No counter play for trebuchets in keeps.
3. Trebuchet is a counter to every single attack strategy in large keeps, with no draw back to the defensive team. A treb should not be able to hit a gate and do no damage except to something on the other side.
A well executed omega rush can counter optimally-placed trebs. Trebs are very good, but smart play using omegas+mesmers has the advantage.

Good suggestion. We already have Wal Mart siege (aka regular). Now we need Costco siege (bulk)!
Make contesting a WP require a certain amount of gate damage, instead of just a tap. This would mean either one person would have to attack it for several minutes, risking discovery and death in order to be successful, or a larger group, say a havoc-sized group, would have to do the job. It needs to take more of an effort than it currently does.
I can’t suggest a complebe build for an uplevel. You should probably build for survivability and maximum “tagging,” for the XP/WXP, but once you get to 80, consider the builds in these threads:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/BUILD-Boon-Tank-Ranger-BTR-Variations/first
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Sentinel-Frontliner-Next-Level-WvW-Ranger
Bumping this for all those who believe in holding on to their kittens and are willing to put in the work, maintain a positive attitude, and have a good time.
If you are willing to consider an American server again, SBI is looking to increase our EU-time-zone presence. Showtime [ST] is a guild formed just for that purpose. You might want to message Nacho (Natronix.9827), the leader of [ST] to see if you guys would work together between your guild and his.
I understand what you’re saying, but I like that map awareness is one more way your server can be better (or worse) than your enemies. For example, if the enemy flips the northeast camp on your BL and nobody on your server realizes it, then they set up rams on your NE tower without being detected because nobody on your server went to scout the NE, IMO, you should suffer the consequences, as opposed to having a flashing alert that there are enemies in your back yard and maybe you otta go check it out.
Let the players on the map vote a single person temporary “siegemaster” status, at which time they can either destroy, move or recycle up to say 10 pieces of siege over the next 20 minutes.
That just lets the offender burn more supply once the siege master has removed some of it. Plus, the mechanics of the vote are unworkable. How many people need to participate in a vote and how often can one be called? Could the troll simply keep calling for votes over and over again?
Honestly, if they invested a little in some big data gathering and analysis they could detect a lot of trolling behavior real time and set off alarms. It shouldn’t be too hard to determine if it is an actual troll by logging into a server where an alarm occurred and watching the person doing it.
The vote would have to be based on getting a certain percentage of the people on the map to participate in the vote, and then a certain percentage of them agreeing to designate the siegemaster. Votes could be limited to one or two per hour.
As far as gathering data to determine trollish behavior and having it set off an alarm, it wouldn’t hard at all to evade triggering those alarms by building siege in nearly useful but actually totally useless locations.
There’s not going to be one clean, easy fix for this. I certainly wish they would just delete the accounts of people who participate in such behavior, but if they are in fact doing that, they’re not doing it often enough nor fast enough.
Good group of people with lots of knowledge, experience, and great attitudes. If you value holding onto your home Borderland, they are definitely worth considering.
I think the cost at least serves the purpose of giving new players some pause before blindly starting an upgrade, just for the heck of it. It might make them stop and think for a moment, maybe even ask, rather than just doing it to see what happens.
All servers are fully capable to be the “exception”. If your server is more PvE based, then of course you’ll have a sub-par quality in your WvW Borderlands. But look at TC. They’re the official Role Playing server, where the only thing they do all day long is talk in Divinity’s Reach, yet they’re an upper tier WvW server.
The contradictions in this paragraph make my head hurt.
/agree to disagree
Let the players on the map vote a single person temporary “siegemaster” status, at which time they can either destroy, move or recycle up to say 10 pieces of siege over the next 20 minutes.
Hmmm. How many arrowcarts, catas, ballistas and trebs do you build when you prepare Garrison for a 30-player + 5 omega rush? How much supply would it take to build them, and how much per hour to maintain them?
… I play on Piken and most servers we meet siege up a wooden keep more than we siege up T3 garrison. I raid daily with one of the largest Piken guilds and can count the number of arrowcarts we build in a week on one hand. So I cant really answer that. Most of the time its none.
At least siege golems are fun to battle. I still think they should be cheaper and do less damage, to become much more common. Best WvW day that’s ever been was when EB broke and only allowed golems to be built. No arrowcarts, no trebs, no catapults, no nothing. Only golems. Well, maybe that day is tied with the time we joined WvW and ended up in a random server, lol
I dont mind siege, I dislike siege spamming (and subsequent refreshing). Both this should go. Make us work to maintain important siege. Refreshing is not maintaining siege, its getting in and getting out with no cost at all. Even a drooling idiot can do that.
I challenge you to properly siege up your Garrison so that it’s prepared to turn back at a minimum, a 30 man, 5 omega rush on any gate/wall. Hint: that’s roughly 30 pieces of siege, and ALL of them are important when you don’t have a the numbers on the map to wipe the enemy force. You’ll need to run the supply from camps, and you’ll also need to refresh all of those pieces. And while you’re at it, if those northern towers fall to a larger force than yours, your Garrison is in danger, so you’ll need to siege those (5-6 pieces per tower) and not let anything despawn there, too. You’ll need to defend and retake camps quickly so the prints you placed don’t despawn. Get all that set up, keep it refreshed for several hours, replace what despawns or gets destroyed, then get back to me if you think the current system doesn’t have a “cost.”
Some servers can get by by only using their numbers, but those are the exception, I think. If you don’t have dominant numbers, wise and diligent placement and maintenance (yes, maintenance because you are maintaining it’s existence via work, i.e., refreshing) of siege allows you to still have a chance win the match.
(edited by slingblade.1437)
Simple – make players work for it rather than jumping in and out.
Every 15 minute (ie tick), placed siege loose 10% of their HP.
They can be repaired/maintained at a cost of 5 sups/10%. You get regular wxp for repair.
In order to avoid certain situations (oh hey that arrowcart is 50% hp, its cheaper to build a new next to it!), every identical piece of siege built within 20 meters doubles the cost each time. 4 arrowcarts built inside a tiny keep mean the first cost 30 supply to build, the second 60 supply, the third 120 supply and the fourth 240 supply. Make people appreciate maintaining and diversifying siege rather than spamming it.
Hmmm. How many arrowcarts, catas, ballistas and trebs do you build when you prepare Garrison for a 30-player + 5 omega rush? How much supply would it take to build them, and how much per hour to maintain them?
Yep, SBI is a great server and we have a strong EST presence and several good guilds. As a thief you’d be especially useful as a scout/solo/small group runner. A good thief can make a huge difference by causing all kinds of problems for enemy servers.
I don’t have great knowledge about how to play Thief, but should you join SBI, feel free to ask me general WvW questions and questions about siege weapons. I’d be glad to help
And it also have been stated over and over that refreshing siege was the way Anet found to limit grievers…
A voting system might work, where a person can make a public request to be voted temporary “siege master” on the map, granting them the ability to destroy a limited number of weapons (around 10) for a limited time (around 20 minutes). This would allow removal of at least some grief siege, as well as poorly placed siege causing siege cap.
The current fix (1-hour despawn) leaves A LOT to be desired and turns those who care about siege into slaves to their own handiwork.
The 1-hour timer is the bane of my existence, and those precious few others who invest time, gold, badges, skill points and effort into building and maintaining siege. Such a short timer punishes those of us of have chosen to specialize in siege because the better job you do sieging up a keep or tower, the more onerous your task of keeping it alive.
After I siege up our Garrison and northern towers I always have first a sense of pride in my accomplishment, followed by a feeling of “OMG, what have I done? Now I have to keep all this $%+! alive, and beg and plead for others to do so, even when I’m away.”
The timer needs to be moved to 2 or 3 hours, and anyone who builds siege should have the ability to destroy their own siege so as to be able to deal with the siege cap.
EU players, do yourself a favor and give [ST] on SBI a serious look.
Stormbluff Isle is working hard (and having success) at improving in all time zones. We have a great community, very dedicated people defending SBI BL, map hopping forces, and an extremely dominant force in EB. We especially want mature, positive, level headed, hard working players who will mesh well with our community and fight on whichever map they are needed on.
[Olaf] on SBI is a great home for serious WvW players looking for a SEA-time action.
SBI has a number of WvW guilds operating in your time zone. Lots of good folks, hard work, and good fun.

Been running a GS/S+Axe full Sentinels build for over a week now and really enjoying it. It’s easy to swap in the LB (and switch to Piercing Arrows+Eagle Eye) or Axe+Axe as needed for range or maximum tagging. I have no problem at all staying at head of our zerg, getting into enemy backlines and dropping lots of CC.

If you are NA prime and hardcore when it comes to WvW, be sure and consider [FUN] on SBI.
nacho is a great commander that knows what hes doing. get this man some members.
Agreed. He does great leading the militia and has pulled off a lot of successful and efficient attacks and defenses, often against greater numbers, while managing to keep it fun.
There are may valuable activities that give little or no tangible reward. Go ask someone who will siege up and scout a keep for hours how much loot and credit they get. The person who’s most responsible for saving your T3 garrison might not get a single kill.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I’d rather they spend their time fixing all of the broken stuff instead of introducing new things, many of which may also not work as intended. They have more work in front of them than they seem to be able to handle already.
C’mon mates, we need some Aussie awesomeness ’ere!
What what? Asians aren’t awesome? ;A;
Actually, we are specifically recruiting Asians who live in Australia.
But really, SBI is particularly interested in guilds and individuals who play in the non NA-prime time slots, and we’re also very interested in players for all time slots who like to focus on the Borderlands maps or go to whichever map they are needed on at the moment, as we already have a very dominant group of players who prefer to play the EB maps.
Thanks for the replies so far. Is cooking your own food for WvW a good way to save money, and is it fairly easy to learn to craft the more coveted foods?
I’m ready to start an alt (Warrior) for WvW and would appreciate some advice. I don’t want to bring an uplevel to WvW in competitive matches, and last I heard crafting was the quickest route to 80. If that’s true, is there a clear winner among the crafting choices for someone who will exclusively WvW? I use consumables, so I was wondering if cooking would be a good choice in the long run in terms of saving/making money. That being said, I’m not willing to spend a bunch of time outside of WvW gathering stuff or crafting stuff.
So, essentially what I’m asking is:
- Is crafting the fastest way to 80? (if no, what is the fastest?)
- Is there a “best” line of crafting for someone who only wants to WvW and is unwilling to spend significant time on other activities.
Any changes to the build since the 12/10 patch?
Ranger certainly has lots of problems and I agree to the extent that they should be deadly with bows, but the RANGE in Ranger is not a reference to range of attack, it’s in reference to a fighter who roams the woods and fields.
Welcome indeed to the WvW-focused guild KWBH, and also thanks to Commander Fiddlesticks, who was considering moving to another server but instead decided to stay, and enticed 8 of his friends to transfer into the SBI fold.
If you’re looking of for a mid-tier server with friendly, hard-working people who love WvW, Stormbluff Isle should be at the top of your list.
You mean you mean you’d rather had a game that runs fast and smooth, instead of “Cutthroat Politics?” What are you thinking?!?!?!!
I think the limit is 5 siege per 1000 units. It check’s it when you are throwin Blueprint down, if the place has 5 or more siege in 1000 units of the spot where you were placing it, it won’t allow it to be placed.
Not quite sure of the range, but I think it was 1000 units
Yes, according to the GW2 wiki, it’s 5 withinga 1000 unit radius.
Also, the other way to limit siege is to control supply lines. I know that’s easier said than done, and takes an ongoing effort by a number of people, but, no supply=no siege.
It’s like recruiting, but even better!
cesmode, I play on the BL maps all the time and don’t find any kind of elitist attitude. Sure there are some people and commanders more intense and demanding than others, but I suspect you’ll find that on most any server, and the overall attitude is a lot more about having fun while accomplishing goals, as opposed to elitist.
As far as multiple tags, we do often have 2 on the map, and occasionally more. I think the thing is, every person with a tag needs to be willing to work with the other commanders. Sometimes that means tagging up for running multiple zergs or multiple lines in a zerg, and sometimes that means tagging down to concentrate forces. The key is not to just run a tag because one feels like it – it should serve a purpose, and be done in coordination with the other commander(s) on the map.
Nah mah hands hurt I am old. That’s the problem. It’s not the build, it’s me.
Couple of things that I use that might help you are a 2-pedal foot controller, and a mouse with 6 buttons on the left side, for thumb control. I purchased both from amazon. The mouse is a Razer Naga, and the pedals are “Fragpedal Dual PC Gaming Footpedal.”
I play barefoot, and use the left foot pedal for Guard (or my Oh Kitten! skill when not running Guard) and the right pedal for my heal. I use the thumb buttons on the mouse for F1-4, pet swap, and weapon swap.
