Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

Congratulations on taking just over a minute per skill challenge. That’s ten seconds communing, (including moving to it), 20-30 seconds to a minute to clear mobs away from some of them, and 2-3 minutes moving between them. Good speed boost you had going there, along with leaps etc on your warrior cooldowns. Oh wait, 2-3 minutes per would be 88-132 minutes, bit more than an hour and you’re rushing it, knowing exactly where they are and probably using waypoints too.

It’s the fact that it has to be done before you can use an alt that irks. ’I’ll play my ranger today’ Oh wait, first I need to redo the armor, change trinkets, work out a new build, calculate how many hero points I need (including elite line no doubt), then run through every map from LA to Orr, THEN I can start the ‘about an hour per character’ (read 4+ Hours). Then go to several other maps (running- no waypoints opened) and grab at least 21 more- and that 44 assumed no events in the way, no aggro, no champs/bosses/blocked points.

It won’t encourage build diversity, and it sure as hell won’t encourage people to try out more classes. we’ll be driven even more into ‘this zerk build only or gtfo lfg calls’.

Of course poeple who just play ‘spam 1’ zerk builds won’t even notice- a bit like wvw lag that kills casters but allows certain skills on heavy classes to continue without a porblem.

Ranger was one of the characters i did it on. It was one of the fastest. Only slower than thief. The only times things were slowed down was on the balth temple when it was contested and on a class with no stealth. I had no reason to do it on warrior as mine already had map completion from over a year ago. The only classes that should be much slower are necro and mesmer. But you can get around that with consumables.

I had like 1 waypoint in cursed shore and the two waypoints at either end of the other 2 maps (already ran characters to cursed shore in the past for arah). If you dont have Orr you can go to the durmand priory/whispers base and get someone to mesmer port you over to the fort trinity portal.

I should have said just over an hour. Thief was the only one that took less. The others ranged from an hour to an hour and a half. Even so its a minor difference. Just over an hour per character is not that big of a deal. Total the time up and it adds up. But you dont need to do it in one go and you dont need them all done immediately.

I dont really understand your last comments. Just seems like you are ranting about something completely unrelated.

Thats the whole restricted ruleset in a nutshell. Confusing and inconsistent. x)

Weirdly it was really clear and didnt require weekly tweakings before your guild took over managing it.

Yeah except its not my guild and i have pretty much no control over the rules. Im just vocal about my opinion and happen to be volunteering to help with records. Also my opinions dont necessarily represent the whole of rT or even the guild itself.

There are a lot of things in the rules i dont agree with. If I really had control over it you would see some pretty radical changes. :P

Besides people agreed to vote on issues. And when Weth brought up the proposal for weekly votes he recieved no feedback. It wasnt until the votes happened that people got involved. If you want to blame someone blame the communities lack of feedback.

Yeah and with the air gun thing we allowed that in trio/duo/solo but not in full groups. We also allow things like consumables in trio/duo/solo. They are naturally a bit more cheesy due to their nature.

Weth gave a reason for removing it. People voted for him to decide exceptions based on rules. Im sure we can create a rule which covers stuff like this.

Besides it might get fixed next patch. :P

15% from 10th World Completion

Theres no way they can tell which of your skill points are from skill challenges or through other means. So pretty sure they will all go to spirit shards. And you will get hero points based on the number of skill challenges you have done. So yes you can profit by doing skill challenges before the patch.

Unless they make it so hero challenges give a hero point + a spirit shard (quite likely i think). Then theres no reason to do them early.

If were gonna mention good open world bosses that should be instanced then im going to say Risen Priest of Melandru.

For fractals its got to be Arch Diviner.

For dungeons its Leurent (If only he scaled better for groups) or Svanigandr.

Actually there is a good reason to do map completion before the patch. You will get bonus skill points for each skill challenge. After the patch they will be turned into spirit shards in addition to your world completion progress giving you hero points.

But that means you only need to do skill challenges before the patch. The rest can wait.

For dungeons I definitely am going to go with svanigandir, and for fractals I will narrow it down between the three:

-Imbued shaman
-Mossman
-Last encounter archdiviner

Problem with imbued shaman I have is he bugs sometimes in shield phases and randomly will swipe up a villager on the opposite end of the map even if he’s nowhere near any villagers. Also, the kitten bugged burning from the floor.

Problem I have with mossman is the stealth-gouge bug. It’s really kitten annoying. Pretty much no one will know what I am talking about unless they try to solo or low man him… but once it happens to you a few times you will understand it’s stupid. Other than that he is a great fight.

Last encounter archdiviner is really good altogether but I don’t like that you have to stand next to him for him to get stunned when the seal is hit as well. It does not seem like it was intended and many many times have I stood directly under him and he still attacks. This is just annoying. If it were not for this he would be the top of my list.

Can’t you keep distance and watch for a teleport on the mini map while he stealths to avoid that issue? Just wondering if I’m understanding what you’re talking about, but yes I do hate his stealth attacks as well, very annoying.

He literally stealths then teleports and instant gouges you while in stealth. Theres not really anything you can do about it.

You guys are overeacting. I hate open world just as much as the next guy. But this weekend i went and speed rushed all the skill challenges in Orr on 4 different characters. Thats 44 skill challenges and it only took about an hour per character. You can even split up the work into smaller chunks so you dont bore yourself to death. Its really not such a big deal.

Of course it looks like a lot of work when you add up the time for all of your alts. But jesus its not like you are going to do them all at once. Its seriously not the end of the world. Besides it wasnt even that boring for me. I got to practise class specific mobility on classes i dont play very often.

They wont even stack might with you. If I had time id self stack the might then earth shield pull. But while your stacking might in the open the guard is loSing the golems to the corner orgy already. Gah pugs!

They do make sense to me. People have different ideas of what restricted is supposed to be. That does influence some votes to a certain degree. I dont see whats so hard about making a broad statement describing what each ruleset is supposed to be. You can literally just copy the old ones and adjust them slightly and be done. Wont change anything now or in immediate votes. But it will be helpful with clarity on the role of a ruleset in future votes.

It’s all moot come Tuesday as PS warrior wont be much of a DPS loss at all, I would expect to see a lot more of them.

Where did they say the specialization patch would be Tuesday? I thought they said “next patch” which could mean any time between now and HoT launch. Not trying to be snarky but would like to know where, the Go Home to LA post did not say Tuesday.

Because they are doing a Ready Up showing the patch off on Monday. Normally they do that on Fridays? Why push it to Monday if the patch wasn’t coming Tuesday?

Next week is POI week. This week was supposed to be ReadyUp. So it could just be that they pushed it back because they needed to.

I find it a little odd to go over changes 1 day before they are released.

The hybrid dmg meta.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

spoj.9672

Hybrids will never work. Let me explain why.

The weapons that apply the best condis: (necro scepter, warrior sword, engineer grenade kit, ranger axe) all have terrible direct damage coefficients per second. This means that if you take stats away from condition damage on them to buff direct damage you are losing sigificant DPS because the weapon does 80% of it’s damage from conditions.

Conclusion: hybrid will never be good. Either condi builds are viable in which case Pure condi will be run, or condi builds are not viable and full berserker are run. Or both are viable and either can be run. A mix will never work so long as the weapons themselves are biased towards one type of damage or the other.

Actually there might be one exception. Dhuumfire DS camping reaper may be the only working hybrid. But we may still find that even with dhuumfire, berserker is still better.

Arahp3 door was specifically voted on and allowed.
NPC dying to speed up dialogue was voted on and allowed
CoE door was voted on and disallowed.

But contradicting rules like these simply open up the possibility of endless path specific rules. Do we really want inconsistencies like this which requires people to go and check a long list of rules everytime?

People voted for disallowing CoE because its unintended. And voted for allowing arah p3 because everyone already does it despite it being unintended. Does that not strike you as a problem? Its a clear lack of clarity in what the ruleset is supposed to do. Play as intended or allow minor exploits? You have to pick one or the other. Not both.

Havent been adding to this thread recently simply because Enko is pretty much saying exactly what ive been thinking. I completely agree with him.

And going on a case by case basis for each path is completely unrealistic. Not only does it add a ton of work to add each individual rule. But it also means that everytime some new trick is found we have to change the rules and have another discussion. When alternatively we can just have a broad and clear guideline that allows freedom to innovate. The really big issues can be voted on case by case. But there is no need for it on all the small stuff when you can simply make rules as follows:

No gemstore items.
No third party programs like teleport hacks and such.
No breaking out of maps or into geometry.
All progress impeding bosses must be killed (in order?).
No safespotting enemies.
No consumables beyond food/utility.
Dungeon completion must trigger.

And if people really want more than that:

Can not progress past any intended blockade or door until the required opening condition is met.
Line casting and trait swap?

A list like this is much easier to follow when approving records. Much easier for players when checking to see if they are within the rules. It covers all the current stuff except for things like rifle gun 1 shot in cm p3 (there are very few of these cases and they can be done as path specific). And most importantly it doesnt restrict innovation. Also its pretty clear without leaving too much to interpretation.

The hybrid dmg meta.

Sinister is basically pure condi as much as it is hybrid. There isnt really a gearset which isnt technically a hybrid. Unless you count dire and rabid. A real pure condi set would be condi dmg, condi duration and precision/boon duration.

But no i doubt people will build “hybrids”. They will build power or condi. And that will be berserker or assassin for power. And sinister or a new fully offensive condi set for condi builds.

Ramp up time of condi builds makes it unlikely that condis will become meta in speedruns. But they could become a staple pick for fractals and casual runs.

If you do both gametypes then you dont really have an excuse. Earn the hero points for PvE. Dont need to for PvP. Thats how it is currently. Except for skills being too easy to obtain in PvE.

Also some of you are misunderstanding. You wont need to grind out 400 hero challenges. If you havent done any hero challenges on an alt then you will need to do 65 to unlock everything (you will have 400 hero points already just from being level 80). If you have done more than 65 on a character you will have more than enough to unlock everything immediately when you log in.

Im saying its possible the new WvW map will have enough hero challenges for WvW exclusive players to get the extra 65 points they need without PvEing. Surely thats a good enough compromise?

If you cant even understand what they are actually doing then you shouldnt be complaining. Its pointless. Make sure you fully understand the change before you start throwing kittens.

PS. Yes it does suck for insta leveled PvE/WvW alts. But if you go do those 65 challenges now you actually make a profit. 65 bonus skill points that get turned into spirit shards and you automatically get your needed hero points as well.

Totally. I always thought restricted was to play as close to what the devs intended as possible. But thats clearly not happening for some things and it is happening for some other stuff. Its almost like we should have 3 rulesets. Restricted, semi restricted and unrestricted. But its already bad enough split into two. So i doubt thats a good idea.

Most people fall into the category of restricted or semi restricted. But the line is blurred by inconsistent views on different issues. It doesnt help that restricted in its current form actually tries to be both those categories while also failing at both.

Its not really about approvers being inconsistent. Its about the rules not being consistent. They arent clear and are open to interpretation. Like weve all been allowing a few things that could easily be grounds to deny. But we dont because it would be stupid and they have always been considered guidelines.

People are two faced when it comes to whats intended. So no matter how you spin it it will never solve all the issues. The thing with current rules and exploits in records is the old stuff that people discovered ages back and has been discussed in the past is all banned. But all the new stuff is considered fresh and innovating so everyone is against banning it.

I seriously think we would benefit from going back to a standardised ruleset with less restrictions and less open to interpretation. People didnt have a problem with it before until the harpy feather absurdity and the jumping puzzle crap in arah. Both of those could have been avoided with 3 basic changes (timer change, banning of consumables and all bosses must be killed).

The mobility change completely hard counters Reaper in PvP. Like they add all that chill and snare conditions and say the reaper is someone you dont want to get close to because you wont be able to get away. Then they make leaps immune to chill and cripple.

#logic

Not to mention it completely destroys all counter play and buffs thieves ability to escape (like they needed that especially with init being immune to chill already).

And then of course we are all going to be running around at a snails pace in PvE. If anything ive always felt run speed was too slow. So this is going to ruin the enjoyment of everyday gameplay.

With reaper shroud and dhuumfire it has the potential for a lot of burn and chill (chill does damage).

It depends a lot on how they are fixing the curses line though. Theres no PvE condi trait in the master tier for example. And no power trait in the grandmaster. Fairly confident curses will get some changes to fix that.
