Guild dungeon group

My guild expects experienced puggers when we cant quite get enough members for a full guild run. But if that pug isnt experienced we are usually very tolerable unless we have time constraints. We dont mind explaining mechanics as long as the pug is willing to listen and communicate with us. What really grinds our gears is when we get inexperienced pugs who dont know a dungeon and just run on ahead without even saying anything, it becomes very obvious they dont know what they are doing when we cant progress because they are completely ignoring the mechanic. If a pug tells us they dont know the dungeon we are usually happy to teach them how we do it. We’ve made a fair few friends doing this.

On one particular occasion we were running arah p3 and our mesmer had to go so we had to pug a new mesmer. The guy we pugged was experienced in just ranging lupi but we were intent on practising melee. We found it difficult to explain our tactics to him over chat but he was happy to listen so we ended up bringing him on our mumble server and we had a great experience and made a new friend.

Necro Wurm bugging?

LoS has nothing to do with it, the problem is it is finicky about moving you through unpassable terrain, or to/through places you couldn’t easily walk through.

But its not just that. Its buggy on un-level ground aswell. Sometimes it teleports you most of the way but then stops 300-500 units short of the max distance even though that last stint of distance is completely smooth, somehow doesnt have an issue with the bumpy part of the terrain until your past it.

Could you give an example of where you’re seeing this? I’d like to examine it and it’s nice to know where to look.

Ive experienced it in all sorts of places. But I dont use flesh wurm much so the only place i specifically remember it happening was in arah p3 at the orb puzzle part before lupi.

Carrion or rabid for survivability

Always go rabid as necro’s already have a high base hp pool and as you said toughness makes our heals more effective. Also you can use runes of the undead which give you extra condition damage based on your toughness.

Covering conditions is not really worth it. Chances are you will cover them anyway without using a sigil and most condition removal is more than one condition so it wont help. GW2 isnt like gw1 where you could cover your important hex’s with less important ones to completely screw over your opponent.

Life steal/dagger builds?

If you want lifesteal in a dagger build you want to go high crit, high power. So the traits can be quite flexible but you want 15 points in blood magic for vampiric precision. The rest of your trait points should be divided into spite and soul reaping and maybe a little bit into curses. Just go through the traits and think about what works together for what you want to do. It might not be perfect but you will quickly learn what you can change to improve the build.

I would give you the zerker build i used with life steal. But i’ve changed the traits around so much theres not much point. Ive gone back to completely avoiding blood magic again as its not as strong as it should be.

And as mentioned above duel daggers is completely pointless in pve. PvP its fine because it provides condition transfer with your power build. But for PvE warhorn is the best choice. Focus is also an option. But I tend to use that in my second weapon set with the axe.

Its doesnt teleport full range for me on slightly bumpy surfaces. Can walk the full distance so its nothing to do with the gap feature.

I dont seem to teleport the full 1200 range ever. Even though the tooltip says necrotic traversal has a range of 1200 it always seem to teleport me about 900 units.

Well of Darkness allows you to stomp no problems. Any cc the downed enemy uses will miss. Problem with using the combo is they probably removed the blind with their downed state auto attack. Blind only remains for one miss. Well of Darkness reapplies blindness constantly though, so it works.

Terror doesnt make epidemic a waste. Epidemic is a waste of a utility slot in spvp.

5) Since Necro is the most versatile class this might be the best 1 profession comp that the game has to offer. It may actually be viable on maps other than Spirit Watch(just not good enough at the orb).

Ive never failed in capping the orb so far with the terror build. Even when being focused by multiple theives.

Terror is a must if you are going condition in tpvp. When you play it well you can win 1v2’s no problem. I often feel like a semi bunker with the terror build because I dont waste utility slots with things like epidemic. I use skills which can be defensive and offensive. WoD, WoP and corrupt boon. Possibly WoC instead of WoP depending on opponents. To really get your conditons doing damage you need to cc your opponents and you need to be removing their defensive boons aswell. So It doesnt make sense to take a standard condition build without terror.

I have a question but first of all let me say I don’t play Guild Wars 2 since a few months so I’m little behind of changes.
In the whole phase 1 I didn’t see a single Risen Grub. Where are they? Just one of it spawn at the end of phase 1, beginning of phase 2.
Last time I did Lupicus (I think before december) the Risen Grubs spawned even near clones, pet and most of all to jagged horrors.
How about? Is there something I don’t understand? Did they changed the behaviour of the Risen Grubs?

You can dodge them when his hand is raised up above his head. Pug groups generally dont bother with this though. The last grub on phase switch cannot be dodged though.

Doding avoid the grub to spawn?

Yeah dodge and if you are succesful whoever he targeted wont get the green cloud on them which spawns the grub after a few seconds.

Yes it’s pretty easy, Use Spectral Walk, Plague Signet, and Well of Power. Activate Spectral Walk then go into Plague Form with blindness. Use condition removal if you don’t make it the whole way and dodge.

Thanks for the tips. I only ever tried to do the skip once and i used flesh wurm at the start but didnt have enough dodges or condition removal to get past. Plague form is a good tip, didnt think of that.

Btw I think we may be the only class that can fully solo path 3. I got up to the second boss last night. Pretty sure we can solo the orb part with decent use of spectral walk and flesh wurm.

You dont ever need to respec if you go zerker power. Just take different utilities for different fights. Which you do with every class anyway.

Some people have no patience for other classes but I suspect they kicked you because you were new to the game. CoE is a very tricky dungeon to start on and requires quite good knowledge of all the mechanics before you get conistant smooth runs.

As for necro. Yes they dont do as much damage as warriors or bring as much support or utility as mesmer and guardians. But they have a definate use in CoE. For example the golem with the turrets. Boon corruption combined with mesmer and guardian reflects works wonders. Not too mention wells and DS provide a huge aoe burst which hits more targets than a warriors cleave so when you los a group of enemies and pop your aoe’s they are gonna go down just as fast. Also in terms of single target damage (on bosses for example) a necro can keep pretty close damage to a warrior at times. Lich form combined with timewarp is huge damage. Also if your team struggles with large groups of mobs you can take well of darkness for 5 seconds of blind or well of power for 5 seconds of condition removal. Which is actually a pretty useful support to a high dps team depending on how effective your guardian is. I would actually say you dont need a guardian if you have a necro and then you will have more damage.

I had no idea the second phase single target bolt didn’t activate in melee range…. that was the part of the encounter I always assumed would be impossible for a necro without uptime on vigor. Since that only hits ranged attackers (I didn’t know this) all that you really have left that is difficult to deal with continuously is the bubble, which apparently you figured out how to minimize.

Impressive video… I am pertty sure somewhere I posted I would eat my hat if someone did this, but since I have no hat on right now I must be safe.

That projectile can be dodged without dodging btw. Just need to move to the side.

Yeah, it’s great when the swiftness is active, not so much when it’s on cooldown I found the 25% passive speed more reliable.

I was thinking of using it to avoid aoe’s by dodging out of them and then teleporting back in after they hit. Cause an issue ive found in GL fights is where you dodge out of a circle and right into another one.

Sounds like you want a wells dps build. Using well of power to give your team a bit of support by converting conditions into boons. You want to go zerker or knights and then trait into spite and soulreaping with some traits into other places such as blood magic and curses. Just look through the traits and use what you think fits best to how you want to play. Dont go soldiers armour though, you will be sacrifing a huge amount of dps for no reason. You always want power and precision unless you’re going for a full condition damage spec. Damaging wells can crit for some pretty massive damage.

I should pay more attention to death shroud. I guess I only use it when I’m going to die and it’s usually too late by then anyhow.

Definitely practise using it. I barely used it all the way up to 80. It was only when i started to experiment with builds and get into dungeons that i really started to use it properly. Also one of the strongest utility skills you should get is well of suffering. Its a very high damaging aoe well and applies vulnerability aswell so you hit harder after its over. While you’re leveling just pick whatever you feel you need. Its a good time to experiment and necro is pretty strong in general pve with almost any build.

Also I always feel bandage heals alot more/faster and builds up quicker on any class other than the necro. life transfer doesnt even counteract the degen while downed. Downed state on necro definately needs to be looked at.

I can’t comment bandage as I haven’t really played any other class besides necro, but I assume it also ticks for some percentage of your downed health making it equal speed to others.

About the life leech, if nobody damages you while in downed, but you are actually in range of something, you can rally from spamming life leech over and over. Though this may need some special foods like mango pie (gives health every second) or omnomberry ghost (lifesteal chance on crit), or the bloodthirst trait. In that scenario its better to just bandage most of the time.

Well it hasnt worked in my experience while using lifesteal traits and lifesteal food. Though i guess its possible it works with mango pie seeing as the hp pool while downed seems to be very low. It does get your hp up a bit for the first couple of seconds but then the degen starts to get a little more painfull. Ive never once managed to heal myself to rally with life leech i either had to avoid damage and use bandage (slowly) or kill a mob or wait for a teammate. And seeing as i seem to die so fast in downed state if something still has aggro on me, I need my teammates to be very fast. Its a bit of a pain but thankfully i dont get killed often enough for it to really bug me.

Getting kraitkin. Howler isnt bad but not amazing either. Also considering getting frostfang but then I would have to get rid of Adam and find a icy focus (probably corrupted artifact).

terror doesnt tick damage when the opponent has stability. Stability completely prevents the condition fear from being applied. Most people in pvp only have one source of stability so just remove it with corrupt boon and then chain fear.

I can’t get this to happen, as soon as I leave DS, It stops channeling 0 life gained.

They fixed it a while back. But you can still do it if you make sure you run out of lifeforce just as you start channeling life transfer.

Not sure you guys understand why he wants us to boycott necro. Its so necro drops to the most underplayed class in the game so devs actually take a closer look. Pretty logical idea if you ask me.

I love playing my necro but its a joke how underpowered the class is in almost every field. As much as I love the necro I tend to avoid taking her into high level dungeons these days. Feel alot more comfortable and useful as a mesmer/guardian/warrior.

I used this trait a couple times for fun, its a nice way to get a little HP an LF back when you’re desperate and have vampiric trait~ It pulses 1% LF every second every time it tags something. Its also hilarious if you get roflstomped and it procs right as you go down cause it hits ppl that try to stomp you^^.

I prefer death shroud cooldowns an specral cooldowns myself for Soul Reaping thos, i’d like the trait more if it activated @ 50% instead of 25%. Activiating @25% in a duel against a theif is a single backstab so wont save you~ They did give it a much bigger range tho a patch or so ago, fun to run thru zergs with the horn version^^

I would actually highly recommend Soul Marks instead.

Because staff is a really good weapon….

My staff auto attack crits for 1300-1500 depending on 50% below hp or not, and travels thru 5+ ppl in/ a zerg. 7500 damage auto attack with 1500 range? kthxbai >3

and is very slow and weak compared to other weapons, ignoring piercing. Its a utility weapon not a dps weapon. You dont need lifeforce on marks anyway you get it plenty fast enough with other things like locust swarm or dagger auto attack.

locust swarm also procs alot of life steals when you’re traited into blood. Plus with a high crit build it can do alot of damage. So its actually a pretty good choice to get an extra locust swarm.

This is very impressive, gj! Although now they’ll see a necro can solo it and immediately get on making this path harder lol. Seems like every time we excel at something they think the content was too easy and they break out nightmare mode to compensate for it :p

Pretty sure most classes can solo TA (probably all paths). Confident i could solo it on my guardian and my necro (without minions). Just not really up for wasting hours of game time.

Used life transfer just as i was about to run out of lifeforce, the ability continued to channel as it always did if you cast it just before you lost all your lifeforce. And because I aoe crit’d a group of enemies with 20 points in blood magic I went from almost no hp to half in a second. Its just a shame you cant force this to happen everytime anymore seeing as lifetransfer cancels if you switch out of DS manually (Was fixed a while ago and noone mentioned it).

Natural LF degeneration forces it, Casting it while the Life force bar is just about 1 cm away from the edge/spam tapping it while casting the last life blast lets you self heal via transfusion, isnt that public necromancer knowledge?

Yes ive known this for ages. Just come across alot of others who havent. You use to be able to force it just by leaving DS and it wouldnt interrupt but they fixed that a couple of patches ago.

So now I am the flush-o-mancer? Can I get a minion that looks like the Tidy Bowl Man? Believe it or not, that would be an improvement over our current underwater options.

We’re still better than thieves underwater at least.

We have the best underwater weapon skills out of every class ive played lol. Spear is insanely good as a power option. Beats the warrior spear easily. Trident is a really great long range dps weapon and benefits alot from condition builds and aoe.

Played around with a similar setup to this at one point. Really like the build. Only thing I would change is the first major trait on soulreaping. Possibly to speed of shadows so you have a way of escaping or catching up with enemies. Either that or cooldown reduction on DS abilities. Even though the idea is not to stay in DS its a nice trait to have for the odd situation when you do want to stay in DS.

Necro zerker with spear is absolutely ridiculous underwater. We really should have a weapon as good as the spear on land. It beats the warrior spear imo. The base damage is amazing, its just a little irritating that our hardest hitting weapon is underwater…

If you combo 3,4 then 2 on the underwater fractal. The krait just get obliterated.

EDIT: And now that I think about it…. I have used it on Lupicus in Arah before and his model is way above the bubble, but it still reflects back on him… so I believe it is okay.

It only reflects back on GL if you stand under GL and inside the feedback.

Vampire/power build

I currently use a very similar setup with bezerker gear. I found that after the lifesteal food nerf blood magic really makes a difference. The only problem is i now lack quite a bit of precision so i may change the traits around again, at some point. Heres what I use:

30: V/VI/XII

15: V
25: VI/VIII

Im thinking of taking some points out of power and adding them to blood or curses but im gonna wait till i have ascended trinkets first.

This is the right move. The people complaining are the ones who were ruining meta boss farming for the casual players. Half the time me and my guildies couldnt get on our own servers because of people abusing the system and guesting. Its a complete joke that guesters can prevent the actual home server users from enjoying content. They could of fixed the problem in a different way. But the ingame economy was kittened enough with the guaranteed rares so this was a pretty good solution. GJ Anet a solid and perfect decision. Ignore the selfish cretins who have no idea how their actions affect other players.

skillpoints are enough. Once you reach 80 most people kit out their character to look just how they like and skillpoints are needed for weapon skins and such. Maybe that needs to be explained somewhere for the newer players and there probably should be a few more rewards you can buy with skillpoints.

I mentioned this a month ago and got no replies. Would be amazing if we could just save our builds. I dont even mind having to go back to the npc to switch. But having to remember my exact traits on several different builds is a little frustrating. The only way at the moment is to write them down or use a build creator website. Surely this should be a inbuilt feature. We had it in gw1, why not gw2?

Necro’s have a cool as kitten appeal but they arent that viable for being super efficient in dungeon runs. Thats why you’re seeing alot more at the moment. People are creating new characters and seeing as they already have the current PvE tier 1 classes leveled (warrior, mesmer and guardian), they go for something a bit different and a little more awesome.

No its not viable in power builds unless you need the range for certain fights. You get much more out of axe mainhand and dagger mainhand. Staffs do provide good support and utility though and for long ranged fights they are the only option. They arent terrible damage either but still pretty bad compared most class range weapons. The only weapons that I have found that have good base damage on the necro (compared to other classes) are the underwater weapons.

I definately like the idea of swapping dark pact with unholy feast. Ive never considered the Necro as a range dps caster, if anything they are a melee dps caster or a ranged support caster. Which is why I really think the devs made a mistake by leaving out a cleave weapon on the necro and not giving them more dps potential close range. The design of the wells suggests that a necro should be pretty close to the frontline.
