This thread=massive entitlement. So funny though.

Like being angry for not being born a millionaire in real life. But i guess there is no one to blame in that case, but here we have Anet.

I didn’t even get a single level 80 item, all of them were level 76-78 (i’m 80) and I don’t really care. That bag and trinket was enough. Good for those who got lucky.

I hope you all quit, you’re attitude is definitely not improving the game and community

Funny you should mention real life. Because if someone works 1000 hours, he get paid as such, and if the government just decided to give a select few people $1b each, see how happy at the government that person will be.

If anyone has a right to complain about any injustice, everyone who has anything invested in anything should have such a right. I guess wanting a nice world, even in a video game is too much for people to understand. Entitlement is completely the reason why people ever want nice things.

On word: Lol! I like how you made a totally absurd comparison. Did Anet purposely selected people to give money to? No. The only injustice is in your head.

Have you heard of a lottery? Have any of you ever heard of a lottery? This is what this was, a simple lottery. You wouldn’t complain that only a few people won the lottery, and yet you cry and cry and cry.

I keep my opinion: pure entitlement. The next door kid got a xbox, I must have one!

Very nice, finally something out of the ordinary. I’m glad the fight was not easy, and the rewards were totally worth it.

Everyone who waited untill the end and didn’t get disconected got 2 exotics, 2 rares, a 20 slot bag and an unique amulet (exotic).

Stop lying about no reward. This was the biggest reward of any event currently in the game.

I say it was worth it. It had it’s moments

I don’t wanna downplay the nerfs (they really are uncalled for, except LoS) but maybe you could do something else in www other then attacking people in keeps? After all, that’s just one thing you can to there. I think maybe people should acknowledge the fact that not all professions are suited for every possible activity. You wouldn’t complain that a thief should play a support healer or that an engineer should roam and gank people easily .

Mesmer still does very good in open field, and i would go as far and say that it dominates 1v1. And don’t forget portals, some people hate that strategy in WvW, but we mesmers are the only ones who can pull that off, so we are still needed. There are a lot of things you can do in wvw, if that’s your only concern.

The rest of the nerfs and their overall implications are whole other topics

Nonsense… You do realize that there already is something in this game to make you stand out? You might of heard about these so called legendaries ? I think that far outclasses your petty CoE armor. And it takes far more effort then anything in the game at the moment.

If you want to stand out easily, buy gold and get T3 armor or something, if the kitten is the sole reason to play this game.

Edit: by kitten i mean that virtual thing some people need to stroke from time to time to feel superior to others

There is no “legendary” armor.

That’s not the point, maybe the Ascended armor will be considered legendary, who knows? The point is that the OP is revolted that something in this game is more rare/valuable/harder to get/better looking then some armor he farmed for. Should Anet stop providing new content because he farmed for something and therefore nothing should be superior? If this is not entitlement i don’t know what is…

These posts are hilarious. Yup, the whole game is ruined because of one event.

It’s not like most of the “farmers” have a very misguided approach to this game overall or the fact that plinx was not the only place to farm. Shocking, I know.

A lot of people enjoy farming gold in games, its really not a new concept to an mmo. For those people, taking away the one chain that yields actual reward for time spent is very disheartening. Other events are far less profitable and a huge waste of time.

So Plinx was the only way to get money right? I guess my 2 sets of exotics + weapons + 40 gold in the bank must have been a gift from the gods since I rarely went to that place…

Anyway, just wait a few days, I’m sure some other event chain will turn up to mindlessly farm for “fun”. If the level 55+ maps get appropriate level rewards, maybe something even better comes up.

How could someone think that being constantly in a 30 men zerg where you cannot even see the mobs spawn before they are nuked is fun is beyond me.

While Plinx makes it easy to get exotic sets, its very easy to do without it. Plinx was for those who wanted to see the gold count rise and rise and have mats in the bank just cause. There are people that enjoy this part of the game, so whether you understand it or not is irrelevant.

All that aside, without Plinx, getting a legendary is going to take even longer.

Thanks for replying to both my answers. I know there are people who play MMOs just for accumulating gold, but to me it seems that GW2 is really not appropriate for this sort of thing. They devs even mentioned that themselves, especially considering the anti-grind methods. And if you base you’re whole gaming experience on this single event, it just seems wrong. It’s subjective, i know, but that’s my opinion.

My other point is that is wrong to complain that without Plinx you have to work A LOT harder to get exotics, and people imply that now they are weaker then other characters because they cannot make money. That’s just false.

If anything, I see it more that Plinx in his old state was more of a bonus efficiency for obtaining a legendary, i doubt the devs had in mind that people spend 10 hours per day doing this one event for at least half of the prerequisites of a legendary. So i see it like a bugfix. Sucks for the newer players, but apparently exploiting a mechanic while it lasts is the order of the day in this game.

And it’s only the last day that matters (sunday, when everyone is at home) when the one-time event is. The other events don’t matter because they are repeatable for a whole day.

It’s not like anyone is going to read this far in the topic, but I’ll throw in my opinion.
The content and general update is very nice and addressed a lot of the annoying things. The change to the zones sounds good, but we’ll just have to wait and see if the population count in the lower areas change at all.

The professions balancing, now that is a whole different story. Except warriors (and maybe necros) everyone seems upset about one thing or the other. The general feeling is that the changes are so random and unexpected that they don’t really reflect the main issues people are having with the classes. Sure, some are good, some are bad but they rarely address what people are talking about strongest on the forums. It’s seems a lot like simple filler, to increase the size of the patch notes. Like you just took some random stuff from each class and decided that is the priority, despite some blatant bugs/imbalances.

the DR on item drop is just a myth.

I would greatly appreciate a debunk.

The dungeon system for DR is fine

No it’s not. Dungeon DR is punishing good teams for being good.

you can get fully geared from a dungeon in little over a week if you do all paths daily at least once.

Thanks Captain Obvious.

What the dungeon forum is mostly whining about is the absolutely stupid and unnecessary 5 paths / 2 hours DR. Pardon me for having a team of good players that steamroll the weak content we currently have.

1. Sorry, but as long as you can do the same events for hours and always get the same average drop per greens/blues/rares and materials, i don’t see where the DR is. I never saw personally or heard a guildie complain that no items drop killing something, other then the occasionally 10 minutes of bad luck and porous bones. Seriously, i personally farmed the same 5-6 mobs for hours and always got the same average loot per 5-10 minutes. Maybe i’m missing something about what people are actually complaining?

2. If you mean you get DR for doing different paths of the same dungeon too quickly, then I’m sure that is a bug, and not an intended feature of the system. I was under the impressions that people would like to run the same path indefinitely and get the same rewards…

Why CS events should remain farm fests

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: supergica.8652

supergica.8652

Yes, you heard that right, but before you switch to the pitchforks and torches hear me out.

I wanna start by bringing into attention why people do that in the first place, and the answer is simple: efficiency. Let’s face it, there is no better place in all of Tyria to farm money and karma at the same time so efficiently. People don’t come to Orr for the lovely landscapes, they don’t come for the lore, they don’t come for the fun activities or social opportunities. They don’t come to have fun, they come to make money/karma and that’s it. After they are bored/full they go to the “fun” activities: WvW, PVP, leveling an alt, map completion, dungeons, keg brawl, whining on the forums, etc.

And you say, “yes, but they could go farm somewhere else, spread out”, but why do that? You could go to Fronstgorge, but that would be 20% less effective, or you could go to Malchior’s Leap, but that would be 15% less effective, or you could go farm some dungeon, but that would be x% less effective… see where this is going?

Making money/karma for most people is like a business, you do what brings more profit in the shortest amount of time. Nothing is going to change this mindset.

So then come the most suggestions in how to “fix” this: make better rewards for all the zones, so that all become viable. Let’s think of what would happen next. You think everyone spreads out to all the zones doing events everywhere happily? Only in the few days or so, maybe. Only after people find out that some events reward just a bit more % loot/karma, or that some are a lot easier then the rest, or some other thing that makes it the most efficient. So slowly all the farmers flock to that particular event/chain and transform it into another Cursed Shore. It’s that maximum profit oriented mentality that forces you to go the best place for farming.
Another thing to mention is that, even if the farmers go on the lower level maps, do you think they will turn the current empty events into something fun and challenging? Or they will simply see it as a money making activity that must be manipulated into giving the best rewards in the shortest time?

That’s why I believe the current general PVE metagame (if you can call it that) in Tyria is ok at the moment: you go to Orr to farm, you go the rest of the map for lore, story, exploration, etc. Is the rest of the map perfect then? Absolutely not!

Something MUST be done with the rest of the map to make it an attractive destination for high lvl people, but better item/karma rewards is not the answer in my opinion, for the reasons stated above. I believe the rewards for roaming the map right now are pretty ok, you get high level item drops often enough to make a profit, if you have magic find you can actually earn more then enough for armors and day to day expenses. Probably the difficult meta-events should reward people with something more than a simple chest, but not to the point of making it farmable.

What they should do, is make the general events less repetitive, and a lot more fun and challenging when multiple people participate (better scaling) . Even simple activities like keg brawl or the ones from halloween can be very engaging with almost no rewards, so a lot of people do play the game for the fun gameplay. That type of mentality should be encouraged a lot more in regard with the DE then anything else.

What do you think?

TL DR: Making better rewards in the lower areas for the lvl 80 people will only cause them to flock to the best farming spot, and turn it into what Cursed shore is at the moment. Making the non lvl 80 areas more interesting and less repetitive might be the better option.
TL TL DR DR: Grinders gonna grind…

Mesmers and DEs

Tagging in the zergfest in CS for mesmers is tougher then for the other classes. You MUST be in a party! Is the single most effective thing that will improve your drops, not because of some hidden mechanic/drop rate but because tagging a mob requires to just do1 point of damage, if the party as a whole can do at least 5% damage total that mob.

Learn where the mobs spawn during the event, go those places before they spawn and just autoattack with the sword a few times(aoe cone) or blurred frenzy then go to the next zone, let your party finish the mobs, and come back occasionally for the loot.

I can only hope you people talk about DR on event rewards since the DR on item drop is just a myth. So what exactly is the problem? The karma? I thought the karma jugs buffed that up quite a bit.

I farm CS and Frostgorge constantly and i rarely if ever hit some DR on events (only if they are in very quick succession) and never hit DR for drops even if i kill one single type of enemy for 2 hours (elementals for loadstones for example).

So either:
1. People are greatly exaggerating because they hit some bad luck streak on item drops.
2. They are bugged
3. They are farming only plinx/penitent/shelter events for karma and care about that only

The dungeon system for DR is fine, you can get fully geared from a dungeon in little over a week if you do all paths daily at least once.

And to those who say they have trouble getting money for basic gear (full exotics/weapons) from farming because of DR: troll harder. Money is extremely easy to make, 1-2 golds per hour is enough to get fully decked quickly. If you cannot make that much money from farming you need to learn to play better, find a guide or something.

Yeah, large aoe for tagging is probably the weakest point for mesmer PVE. But that is completely mitigated by a simple thing: being in a party.

If you’re in a party it’s usually enough to do 1 point of damage to a mob to tag him. Just run and autoatack with the sword once or twice and let you teammates do the rest. I know it’s sounds a bit selfish, but it’s not, if every member of a 5 man party gets at least one attack on a mob, it’s enough for all to get credit for the kill.

And you talk about groups of thieves using stealth coordinated. But think about this, what would you prefer to face against: 5 coordinated thieves or 5 coordinated mesmers? Think of what other classes could do when faced with such a team. It’s not pretty either way.

Actually the thief already says that sometimes when he get’s might on being hit. Always found it funny.

But seriously basilisk venom is pretty ridiculous at the moment. And all of this because of the way anet balances things. Something is not exactly right? Nerf it into oblivion until we find something else (which is probably never).

The way it was before was pretty interesting, the thief had a unique mechanic, albeit a bit too powerful combined with venom share / back stab. But standalone it was really ok. It needed some changes, but why bother actually coming up with something useful when it’s easier and cheaper to just nerf it and move on.

To fix it, it either needs more effects other then a small stun or some sort of boons to the thief. Maybe boon striping/transfer, vulnerability or cripple. And definitely instant cast.

Well the general consensus amongst the other professions is that thief should probably do no damage at all. The fact that he has a few seconds of stealth every now and then is more than enough to compensate for damage, low hp, low support, or lack of any other defense.

Don’t worry, nothing will be done about the warrior, the masses don’t complain about it. The content of the masses > unbalanced professions.

You don’t need a montage video to know thieves need a nerf.

Go play sPvP, and look at how many people are playing thieves. Alot of the times around half of the players in a match are playing a thief. Hell, even I have a low level thief alt i roll around with in hot join pub stomps. Its simple, its safe, and its devastating.

Great logic, just because a class is more played than others it must be definitely OP…

Not to mention the fact that guardians and mesmers are more played at top level PVP, but what do they know right? The game should be balanced on sPVP where every one rolls a thief because they “pwn n00bs”. Let’s face it, that’s why most play it, because is very effective against low skilled players, and those compromise the majority of sPVP. It’s not OP after you learn the game a little and when they nerf it it becomes downright weak facing high skilled players.

But this is the warriors forum, no matter how absurd some skills are, they are never OP, as anet put it, “the warrior is in a good place right now”…

Sure you can block Backstab, if you are a Guardian. It’s hard to block if you can’t see it coming. It costs Initiative so you can use it atleast 4 times, probably more if traited into initiative. Block it once, no problem.

I don’t even play Rifle Warrior. I’m against unjustified nerfs. I’m posting the same thing in the Thief forum where people whine about exaggerated 20k-in-1-second bursts.

Montages such as provided in this thread (and others) prove nothing. Yeah, you see him downing (=/=killing) people with glasscannon builds in a short time using certain skills, but you don’t see him being useless for 60-90 seconds afterwards.

Like I said, you are not familiar with how the Backstab works. It doesn’t matter how much initiative it cost. You can only use it once and then you are out of stealth and have to wait 3.3 to enter again (if you break stealth you get the debuff that you cannot enter again for 3.3 seconds). And why do you say you have to be a guardian? You have the 5 skill on the shield IIRC, it will block everything for 5 seconds. If the glass canon thief hits his opening skills on the block he will try to run away, he has nothing left.

I agree that such montages should not be used for balancing, but the thief’s forum has been spammed with nerf cries in response to such videos and examples provided by underleveled chars. And so anet has taken notice and repeatedly nerfed the thief despite abundant contrary evidence. It’s only fair that the same approach should be taken to the other professions wouldn’t you say?

2. He is dead afterwards, glass thieves only die after they get outskilled if they are terrible enough to mess up stealth and not shortbow out fast enough

he still has 16k hp, and has heavy armor. The glass canon thief is definitely squishier.

And a warrior has pretty good mobility with the greatsword. Considering he shoots from 1200 range, he has a good chance of getting away if he wants.

Still I don’t think one burst is better or worst than the other, they are the same and have a lot of disadvantages, but SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME.

Because a skill that first needs adrenaline charging and then has a 1¾ second self-snare and cast time is the same as a skill that can be used 3-4 times in a row and is stealthed?
1¾ is enough time for anyone to dodge or use a block skill. It’s enough to use condition removal to remove immobilize and dodge.

And it won’t hit 20k in sPvP.

Comparing apples and oranges.

3-4 times in row? Really? Did you even bother to read how Backstab works? And who says you cannot block it or dodge it? And the stealth argument is even more ridiculous, if you come in stealth and just hit someone it just does 4-5k and have to wait 3 more seconds to be able to enter stealth again

Any thief worth his salt will use the cloak and dagger+steal+backstab combination, and that what’s causes spike damage. So it’s a combination of three skills, you have to come in relatively close range (so it is visible) and time it perfectly. What does a warrior do, press F1 and wait one second… And you have a signet for building adrenaline, you come in full.

And the last part about sPVP, yeah, it probably does less damage there, but so is the thief, you’ll never see the big numbers with backstab there anymore.

Seriously, it’s a gimmicky build and so is the backstab build for thiefs. Let’s not argue about that. What I want to point out is the fact that the profeesions are not treated fair, and that the players are always biased toward their class heavily.

This is a video circulating on the warrior forums which shows a full glass canon warrior hitting with the rifle’s kill shot skill over 20k. Since it does piercing damage, at one point he does around 60k damage to three targets. I’m not saying it’s happening often, but it shouldn’t happen at all.

And yet this seems perfectly normal to those folks, most who come crying nerfs in this forum. And guess what, the justification for that is: he’s a glass cannon!, you can dodge!, it only works on other glass canons!, just watch out for him when he comes!
Sounds familiar?

I’m just pointing this out in the light of the upcoming nerfs for the thief because I simply cannot understand how one gimmicky build is accepted but another one is not. What do they expect from the thief, just troll with stealth? If warrior is all about damage (and tankiness) what is thief’s role then?

It’s not the event that’s the problem, it’s the mentality that is more or less enforced on you by the endgame: Orr is for farming and nothing else!

Let’s face it, 90% of people coming to CS only come here to farm (karma, items, xp, orichalcum, etc). They don’t come here for role playing reasons, they don’t come for the scenery, they don’t come to have fun. They come to do that dreadful activity for 1-2 hours so they earn enough to be able to do what they really want. (gearing up, getting a legendary, getting gold for wvw, getting money for an alt etc).

There isn’t really another zone more efficient for farming then this one, so it’s just business. So like in every business, you have to maximize efficiency. The rest simply doesn’t matter.

Huh? Have you actualy checked the prices for ectos? One ecto goes for 15-17s. One! And if you use a BL salvage kit or master you might get 1-3ectos pe item. Selling one rare item get’s you a maximum of 13-15s, and if you go for buy orders it’s almost never more then 11s.

It could be a small gamble, but in the long run you definitely get more more gold salvaging then selling the item. I did a small statistic in my case and i got 1.4 ectos per item for 50 rares using one BL kit and one master kit. So i think it’s worth it.

Gratz, nice job roaming. Altough I still think that one man preventing 20 from capping a camp by being invisible is not intended and should be fixed somehow. But still, very nice.

Two questions:
1. Are you in full exotic carrion (including trinkets)?
2. What foods do you use? Do you take veggie pizzas for the bleed duration or something else?

P.S. I hope condition builds don’t draw too much attention, they really are more powerful and the kiddies will scream nerf even harder :P

I'd love to run Arah... so could we please make the events less frustrating?

The events themselves don’t bother me. I only wish they wouldn’t bug out so much so Arah stays closed for a whole week until the servers reset. (That’s currently the case with Gunnar’s Hold).

I can confirm that the bus pci-e multiplier bug is the cause for me too.
To check if is the same problem for you, download the utility gpu-z (google it) and check the field “bus interface”. If it shows something like PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x1 1.1 then that’s your problem right there.

I found this link that proposes a number of solutions: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=522

Most common solution seems to be to pull the video card out and put it back in again. That seems to reset it. Sadly for some of us with laptops, that simply cannot be done. Also your BIOS might not have the options discussed in that article.

I still think that GW2 somehow messes with this (maybe with power profiles?). I played on my laptop countless games (more demanding that this) and never had this issue. And it only occurs after playing GW2. So far i haven’t found a reliable way of resetting it. sometimes just resetting the computer works, sometimes i have to play with the power profiles/nvidia settings/change drivers/pray to the gaming gods/etc and it still does not reset.

have anyone tried completely remove gw2 and reinstall? is it possible for that to work?

Tried that a couple of times, does not work at all.

here is the link.

I know FPS is always a problem in games and people are complaining , but recently it’ been a spike of users reporting this, and users with more than enough power to run the game. And what’s worse is that these aren’t people that just bought the game, they played it well for 2-3 weeks, then all of a sudden, 10FPS.

Sorry if my tone is too harsh, but i’m just frustrated I cannot play the game anymore, and seeing every post with this problem bombarded by “not good enough specs” makes it even worse.

Shut up please with the specs not being good enough! Are you that desperate to troll??

You drown every post in this bullkitten and we cannot find a real fix. THE GAME WORKED PERFECT TILL A FEW DAYS AGO! Why can you people not understand this??

Unbelievable, even an Anet developer admitted there is a problem in that merged thread and you still come up with idiotic suggestions. I really hope this bug hits your 3k rigs that you care so much about fluttering around in everyone’s faces just to feel superior.

Wow, so many idiotic responses and suggestions. i5 to weak for this game? Don;t play on a laptop? Some people obviously just wanna show off their rigs and/or dismiss any problem, just blaming the users hardware.

This is definitely a problem on Anet’s side. I ran the game perfectly fine for the past three weeks (max quality, i got 50 fps everywhere), and i’m using a laptop with i5 and a 460M card. A few days a go, after the patch, i got my first share of FPS troubles. Because it cleared itself after a restart, i gave no attention to it. But after that, each time i started the game, i had to restart the comp/game 2-3 times before the problem magically fixed itself and i could play. Now the day finally came when i cannot play the game anymore. No matter how many times i change settings/restart/whatever, i get 10 fps max. So don’t tell me that me and a thousand other people have hardware problems, all at the same time.

Like so many posts have pointed out, the problem is that the CPU is not used appropriately. It never goes beyond 50% usage, and before it had 80%-100%. THAT is what needs fixing, not getting some ultra mega high end PC.

Sorry about the tone, but i just hate it when unknowledgeable people give bad advice, and we seem to have a lot of these “experts” around here.

I know it’s a bit soon since you’re probably low level, but don’t forget your elite once you reach 30. In PVE thieves guild is very strong, both for reducing aggro on you but also for damage. I pop that on veteran mobs or when there are more then 4 mobs attacking me.

How are thieves doing PvE-wise?

in Thief

PVE is al about mobility and avoiding damage. I find D/D is very viable and quite easy if you have specced in trickery and acrobatics. Death blossom is probably the best skill for PVE by far. Forget shortbow, with death blossom you apply it for times while taking no damage then run around for a few secs and watch the mobs die. Also sigil of shadows is almost a must for thieves. Permanent 25% speed bonus, no mob can touch you.

Because death blossom is AOE is very easy to just gather all the regular mobs in the area, spam the ability and watch the xp grow. This of course works for regular mobs, on veterans you need to do a bit more kiting, but if you’re on acrobatics you can dodge very often and get a speed bonus as well so no prob. For damage against a single target P/P is definitely better with unload so just run around spamming unload against veterans and you’ll do fine

Also i find the elite thieves guild skill to be better suited in pve because more often then not those thieves draw the aggro so you can whack at the mobs with impunity.

Also because of shadow refuge, you don’t always have to fight that veteran/champion to get the chest, rich vein, or resurect someone. Just run up to it, ignore all the mobs, pop the stealth and loot/revive away then run. For some reason that stealth is alot more then 3 seconds it says on the tooltip (more like 6-7 seconds), i’m not sure if it’s a bug or intended.

Will DE's become more engaging or complex?

I think the scaling is definitely the problem with the events. Yes some are by nature boring, but the fact that there is no way you can loose that makes them even more boring. You know from the start that it’s just another type of grind spamming abilities in a zerg. Zero challenge. Of course even the most elaborate event will look dull when you just press 2 buttons: AOE and loot

So far i’m finding the most fun events those that are 5-6 players max, or those out of the ordinary (like the one you’re turned into a crab and have to fight that large crab in the arena), most are just xp and loot farm.

If the scaling would be done properly, and 20 people zergs could actually wipe from time to time i’m sure even the current events would look more appealing. Sure, make some easier, but have at least a few that need some sort of coordination to be able to complete so zerg fests cannot win them anymore.

Is the DR only occurring on the level 80 areas? I managed to do the big boss centaur fight in hinterlands 4 times in the course of an hour including several events that lead to it and (so at least 10 events) and i very specifically watched the xp and rewards, but they did not change one bit. It was pretty much identical every time.

To give you an idea of how fast it was, the chest that spawns after the boss dies, was still there when i returned so i could get all the items before the event even finishes (before even the 3 beasts are killed)
