After reading several posts about groups doing raids and having hard times killing Boss before timer was out, I am wondering if Berserker gear is still not the gear to use. But on the other hand, we are supposed to use different gear in raids. Gear that gives you more survivability.
So, we have the necessity for survival on one hand and the necessity for DPS on other. Does that mean we will need two sets of ascended gear for raids?
One for trash mobs (survival) and the other for Bosses (DPS check).
I’d like to take this moment to discuss how Raids (and other Elite content) excludes some players, and why that’s actually good for the game. As it stands, GW2 is a very Casual friendly MMO. Anet designed this game without any required grind, staying true to their core principles since Day 1 of this game. You play how you want to play, level how you want to level, and ultimately decide what “fun” is. If that “fun” includes grinding content over and over (i.e. FotM, SW chests, Dungeons, etc), that’s your choice. Anet doesn’t stop you from voluntarily putting your time and effort to repeating content.
There’s something for everyone in this game. But the content for Elite/Hardcore players, while there, was sorely lacking. Thus the reason why Raids are now being introduced. These players yearn for challenging content with exclusive rewards. The best thing about how Raids are being introduced is that absolutely no one is being left out (technically). All players are allowed to try and play Raids as much as they want, as often as they want.
Here’s the part that might upset people. Raids are hard. There is no easy button for this content. While all players are welcome to play in Raids, not all will have the skills or equipment to succeed. This inherent design is working as intended. Challenging content isn’t made for you just to beat. It’s made for you to push your limits. It requires players to have a full understanding of their build, their party member’s build, and be able to coordinate all together to achieve the goal of beating the Raid. It also requires you to invest time and money into your equipment, thus helping you be more prepared for enemy encounters. Players who cannot adapt will be left out.
The million dollar question: Why is it ok for players to be “left out”?
There’s always a skill level difference between people. There’s also a difference between the time one can invest in playing this MMO. So with Raids, the assumed hardest content available, having it clear by anyone at any skill level takes away from the prestige. Why make hard content if it’s not actually hard? Why offer exclusive rewards if everyone can get them? Having some players excluded from succeeding in clearing the Raids serve as a reason to become a better player. It brings balance to game rewards for those at a higher skill level. Remember, GW2 was never designed to be a “hack & slash” game. Combat was meant to be dynamic. Standing still and swinging your sword may work on weak enemies, but will punish you on the more moderate to strong ones. Each time you learn from a mistake, the more you grow as a player.People who invest time in learning and adapting in this game should have content that rewards them for their efforts. Raids cater to the Elite/Hardcore players, and gives them rewards based on skill and coordination. It excludes those who aren’t up to that level of commitment. But fear not, Raids will always be there for you if you choose to invest in yourself. Exclusive rewards are never impossible to get if you believe in yourself! Ask not the sparrow how the eagle soars.
tl;dr – Raids are good for this game because it allows high skilled players to earn rewards worthy of their efforts, gives incentives to grow and become a better player, and gives Hardcore players content that they can enjoy.
If these hardcore players were given an option to choose between challenging content and exclusive rewards, what would they choose?
Where you guys in Berserker gear?
There will always be parents that would rather see their child sitting behind a screen all day, then spending few hours in actual work/play/conversation with them. It’s usually the ones that say “It’s MY child!”. Like they are talking about a piece of furniture.
Coulter, your chickenkitten comments are not productive to the discussion either. You seem to be threatened when someone disagrees with you. Is that why you result to the catty insults? I can make insulting comments as well, but my reason for doing it is the outrage I felt at how you lashed out at someone asking a question.
It asked those questions in an attempt to minimise the point I made, the questions were completely irrelevant and nothing to do with what I said – its a cheap debating tactic. I will not respect someone being deliberately obtuse.
SW Farm is disproportionate method of generating money based on effort required, it has kept people in game playing while we wait but once HoT launches its time to retire it.
And what are those that will not have HOT supposed to do?
“Oh, we nerfed SW rewards because those that bought HOT don’t want to visit zones outside of HOT and they don’t want those outside zones to have better rewards.”.
And what about dungeons and speed running them? Should they nerf that too?
How in the world would anyone think it appropriate to discuss sexual things and some rather perverted and abusive sexual things in map chat?
This is internet. I would be more surprised if this did not happen.
I had to pop into this thread to mention how this EXCUSE needs to end. “This is the internet” does not excuse a person for being an anti-social neanderthal. Hiding behind a wall of anonymity shouldn’t be a viable way of saying things that your family would be ashamed off, your boss would fire you for, and sometimes could get you thrown in jail if at all it was publicly said.
Unfortunately thanks to the “it’s the internet, dude” attitude, some of this had bled through the 4th wall into actual day-to-day conversation by children/teens who have grown up knowing the internet their entire life. It is getting way out of hand and social morality has been crumbling because of it. Respect, something that used to be normal, is becoming a scarcity.
Couldn’t agree more.
Will we finally get build templates with HoT?

Considering that build management tool is going to become really “needed” after HOT launches, it’s my opinion we will have to wait for outcry that will follow it. And even then I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered it only on gem shop.
Until now we haven’t seen features on the gem store, I think it is unlikely that that will suddenly start.
I agree, but the question is how they will see such a tool. To me, it’s similar as salvage-o-matic. You don’t need it as you can buy basic salvage kits and use those. But the “improved” version of that same basic kit is on gem store.
They could use the same “logic” for changing builds. You already can do it manually, so you don’t really need any special tools for it.
Thank you. I found my post, but I fail to see where dev answered a question to what degree “recommended” is?
He basically says that when people learn the fights it should become easier to do it, even with lower tier gear and even (probably jokingly) with some people going as quaggan.
That makes it sound rather clear that it will not be hardgated in the slightest to Ascended gear for everyone.
I did assume the same thing while reading that comment, but considering it is made in a humorous way, it’s not something I would put my life on it. Add to that it’s a comment made outside of their own official forum, and it becomes even more “foggy” as something I could trust. The ambiguity that comment presents is the reason I made a question on this forum.
Raids becoming easier as time passes and experience grows, is logical and I don’t think anyone needs to hear that. We all know already that. But we don’t know how those raids will affect players before that happens.

It is in this very thread, page 6. Just a few hours ago.
Thank you. I found my post, but I fail to see where dev answered a question to what degree “recommended” is?
They are recommended to what degree? As in, you will have almost no chance of doing raids without it or you might have some problems doing raid without ascended gear?
You have already commented on a post where a dev tells you the answer to this question.
Oh, my bad. Would you be so kind to give me a link to it. I must admit I can’t find the thread you are talking about.
Ascended items are not required, they are recommended . Learn to read and understand.
They are recommended to what degree? As in, you will have almost no chance of doing raids without it or you might have some problems doing raid without ascended gear?
It is actually very simple: “our” dev went for balance, other devs went for powercreep/cool stuff + they don’t communicate apprently. So here we go, got short end of the balance stick so to say.
Maybe “our” dev just isn’t as capable as others are. I, personally, am leaning towards that kind of thinking more and more as I see the lack of communication and class improvements, weird update choices and pitiful elite we are about to get.
Does he even play as a Thief?
Can someone explain why ANET devs are communicating on other sites and not their own?
I would guess that he was not in the office but rather browsing Reddit where that thread (which was also created first and was more active than this one) was on top of the list, thus easy to find. I am not sure if the devs have access to their dev-forum accounts from home.
I guess there is a logic in what you say. Now, the real question is if that person will have the same amount of desire to be so active in communication on this site? Or any other dev for that matter.
Will we get the same information as it exists there, or do we have to use links or search to find it outside of GW2 realm?
Will we see the same willingness to actively communicate (he appears several times in one thread!) on this forum as well?
And here we have it:
One thing to keep in mind. A good puzzle is one that starts out hard and then after playing it and learning how it works it becomes easier. I mean when Teq came out it was hard now it’s on farm. In order do this you need a base line to balance around so you make sure the mechanics is where all the interesting decisions come from.
This next Beta Weekend you can try it out. This is the best opportunity to show us how well we did if your worried about the balance being too easy jump in and kick that encounters butt the better everyone does the more data we will have to create the proper base line and the more we can focus on each fights mechanics.
Clearly after something is on farm it’s easier to do it with less gear, or with some number of people on a quaggan tonic. I expect a spread run with maximum quaggans on youtube shortly after this post!So I guess this is /thread?
Can someone explain why ANET devs are communicating on other sites and not their own?
Hopefully, there will be enough of the players that waxed nostalgic about the joys of tanking or healing that a lot of groups will have options. There night be a big problem with PUG’s, though. One of the issues with PuG’s is wanting to fit something into one’s playtime. If healers/tanks are necessary or are deemed necessary, then there will be waiting, unless there are a kitten-load of them. If wait times are high, there will be some backlash.
As for me, I’d have no problems trying to play a healer, though I’ve never done so in this type of game. I’ve little interest in tanking. What I’m especially not interested in, though, is making and carrying 3-4 sets of gear. If, as I suspect, that turns out to be expected, I doubt I’ll be involved.
And this is exactly my biggest concern about this. I like GW2 because there is no hard trinity and making a group is as simple as clicking a few buttons. If groups will have to have a certain composition, GW2 will become the same generic MMO as most others.
I can pretty well guarantee that dedicated healers will not be necessary for raids. Group healing may be, but dedicated healers will not.
Group healing is something that can be spread over the entire party. For example, a Guardian could run Healing Breeze instead of Shelter or Litany of Wrath in order to help the party survive. Necros could trait into Blood Magic for Transfusion instead of Curses or Soul Reaping. Thieves might even break out venom share with skelk venom!
There is also the possibility of using sets with Healing Power as a secondary stat like Zealot’s. Two Zealot’s geared party members could probably replace a Cleric’s geared and a Zerker’s geared in raid content.
Or you could centralize the healing duties onto one or two people, letting the others trait/build for more DPS and control.
Since all professions are capable of contributing to the healing effort, the need of an actual dedicated healer is really nonexistant. It’s a viable option, but not a hard requirement.
I agree with you on all classes having support skills, but why then would they even make so many healing changes to skills? Imo, it’s because they want more dedicated healers to be present in a group. Not necessarily a full healer, but more so than what we have now? The real question is how dedicated they want healers to be?
It definitely has potential to be a huge change in GW2, considering they are looking towards trinity more than they have in the past.
Wow, a nice inventory you got there. Is there a reason connected to HOT that made you not open them until now? Why are you waiting?
I think Thief dev team might not be as capable as other classes’. Hope I am wrong, but latest update just confirms that.
Thank you for recognizing that thieves exist Karl. Looking forward to future updates.
It’s scary when you see posts like this. Is he really that out of touch with the Thief and it’s players?
I’m not sure of the original posters intentions but from my perspective, having played thief for the better part of a year now is that I honestly wish the rare and minuscule buffs we get would be for anything other than damage. I understand that p/p has low damage outside of unload but I would rather anett buff anything else over giving us more damage.
After reading latest update info, I got the impression that either the team (person) responsible for Thief development is either sitting on some other changes and we will be getting them in short time, or other classes are developed by more competent developers.
I mean, getting just a few changes and most of them being a simple damage increase, is not a balancing act. It’s more of a PR attempt.
So, can we expect something more for our Thief, or have we just seen the maximum “our” devs are capable of?
Right now, grouping in GW2 makes this game leaps and bounds ahead of other MMOs. LFG tool is something that you can use for almost every PVE and PvP aspect. And it works beautifully well. You can use for any simple thing you could imagine and making a group call or joining in, is as easy as it can be.
There are some group announcements that demand certain level of AP, zerk gear, experience, beautiful girls or cookies. But very little calls for groups with only certain classes or gear. So, anyone can join and rarely you get into a group where you get kicked out due to your class, gear or traits.
This makes causal and pug playing a joy and even helps to bring guild or pre-made players closer to others.
SW is an excellent example of how great grouping is in GW2. People are constantly making group calls for events of cf and literally anyone can join. It is a breath of fresh air in the MMO world which is mostly plagued with a problem of not enough tanks and healers and too many DDs.
Is this what we should expect? Calls for certain classes and/or gear becoming mandatory in grouping?
Templates are something we would love to do. We have talked about this quite a bit, and with the frequency we’re seeing raid builds get tweaked we agree this would be a huge help.
But it’s not going to happen, right? Or you guys would not be just talking about this for the last few years.
…
The good thing about this is now you can change your Ascended armor to another preferred stat combo. For people who can’t afford to craft multiple Ascended builds, this is a Godsend. It would be wise to begin investing in materials that allow for conversions, such as Soldier’s Intricate Gossamer Insignia and Elaborate Totems before prices spike.
How can you change stats on Ascended armor? How much does it cost?
Will HOT bring an increase in ascended armor/weapon stats? Will it bring new stat combinations on ascended gear?
I hear you. It really gets annoying.
My guess is that as soon as HOT launches, we will see new and exciting things in cash store. Among them there will be a tool for salvage automation and a tool for build management (build templates and so on).
F2P and recent fail of an event lead me to believe they will try to push for as many cash shop items as they can.
The main problem why official forum of this or any other game is mostly filled with complaints and not discussions or feedback, is the lack of official involvement.
Devs or their customer relations counterparts are trying their hardest to leave as little footprint as possible on their own forum.
The main official involvement is forum moderation, bug and game updates. Little to none real communication. Many gaming companies started to use reddit and other social sites more and use their own forum just as a PR. Just look at search function on this forum and their total lack of interest in making it work.
Forums look like they do because of almost complete lack of interest by the officials and too much interest by players.
They start doing damage before I can see them. Is there anything I can do on my side to prevent this?
Something like not selling a freaking story separately in a computer game, would help the most.
But I guess once indoctrinated, one stays that way.
Was it a cute dev? Where da pics? :[ did you give him private lessons?
Nope just told him the most important thing to thief’n
I am still learning my Thief, so I am curious what that is?
Don’t get hit
This has got to be the most useful advice I’ve ever received. Will take it to heart.
So I’ve finally decided to get my tail out of Dry Top and spend some time in Silverwastes. After a couple of weeks of careful observation, I think I’ve finally figured out the Rules of Engagement for the map.
1. Do NOT keep the signal fire lit.
2. Do NOT use the siege.
3. Do NOT protect the siege or anyone using the siege.
4. Do NOT anticipate attacks and have people stationed by a torch and the siege, ready to spring into action.
5. Should some silly person actually use an oil pot, do everything possible to keep the poor mordrem from being burned horribly. Keep the fights out of range of the oil and knock back any poor foe that manages to blunder into it. They will thank you for it, and the silly person will shortly stop bothering them as per rule 3, when the silly person and the pot are destroyed.
6. Should a fort offer arrow carts or cannons, do NOT use them to provide any sort of cover fire for rubble collection or for pack bulls leaving the fort. Should you happen to have a torch in your hand when an attack ends, drop it immediately lest you accidentally light the signal fire to provide cover for the group collecting rubble.
7. Should a pack bull be dispatched to resupply your fort, there are two choices. Either everyone must leave the fort to escort the bull or no one must leave the fort to escort the bull. Under the first option, should the fort come under attack while everyone is escorting the bull (which is almost certain to happen), no one must leave the bull.
8. When a skritt burglar appears, all bets are off. Everyone drop everything to nail that sucker.
Did I cover everything, or can you experienced Silverwasters fill me in on the points I missed?
Sarcastic and to the point. Well done and I agree.
Funny enough, I still see SW as the most cooperative map even though there’s still lots of running around like headless chickens.
I must admit I am one of those that usually do not touch any of defensive items and only fight Mordrem. Thruth be told, I never bothered to educate myself of all those options. But I will improve, that’s a promise.
But I also think Anet could better explain these mechanics and especially rewards a player gets for doing different things. It’s like with Tequatl. Many believe you get less rewards for support than you get for active combat. And it could be the same with SW.
I often find myself looking at pack bull leaving the fort and no one going after it to defend it. So, I decide to be the one to do it. But, I find myself thinking “Would I get a shovel if I stayed behind and helped defend the fort from the attack that is bound to happen in a minute or two?”. And this could be a part of the problem for players constantly jumping from one fort to another. Rewards are not the same and the most important reward, a shovel, is mostly gained when one defends a fort. At least that’s the general feeling among players. So, many simply ignore those pesky bulls that don’t seem to learn anything and always follow the same path to doom.
I made similar thread few days ago. It might help you in some way.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-there-is-no-build-management-tools/first#post5473247
It seems there is no official comment on this, which could mean it is still long way from GW2 having anything similar.
…
I will say though that pistols are something we’ll be looking to improve, being as they feel under-tuned at the moment.-Karl
Thank you for the hope you’ve given us, but could you elaborate more on when this might happen? This year, next year or next DLC after HOT?
Was it a cute dev? Where da pics? :[ did you give him private lessons?
Nope just told him the most important thing to thief’n
I am still learning my Thief, so I am curious what that is?
So if you are lucky to find a cf map, then you should embrace the farm, so you have at least a little bit fun ingame
Never really saw the “fun” in following a tag around and waiting for a map ping. But to each their own I guess.
I have to agree doing chest farms is not really fun. I am usually capable of doing max 2-3 runs before I get bored, but the cramps I get in my right finger when I have to make hundreds of clicks to open bags or use essences of luck, is fun.
Or is that due to me collecting all those rewards and materials I desperately need? I never could tell.
Silverwaste was supposed to be a map to do the events and fight multiple bosses, NOT a chest farming map. If GW2 wants to keep chest farming in, make it for a limited time, so that those of us that like doing the events can. It is unfair that those of us who like doing the events have to wait until the chest farming group deems it the right time to do so. I also refuse to jump from map to map to map just to find some people to do events with. Keep the chest farming in, just limit it.
Make no sense. There is like 10 times more LFG for event maps than chest farm map. Don’t be lazy and use the LFG. Right now everybody can do what they want, either chest farm or event map, so let’s keep it that way.
Your reply is what makes no sense.. never since SW was patched from the original buried chest spawn has there ever been 10x more event maps than there are CF maps…
Event maps are hard to find most days unless your prepared to sit and wait a whiles for one to pop, or try to get lucky jumping maps to hit an empty copy where you can start your own.
Chest farm maps are a poor lazy game design aimed at trying to retain as many players in game for as long as possible in the hope that more gem sales will happen to buy the latest re-skinned, re-themed item in the store. But ANET like it that way, they like all the failtrain and chest farms because it does just what they want… keeps players logged in longer meaning they don’t have to take more time than necessary actually developing meaningful content that has a lot better replay value.
Another solution for event farmers is to start them on their own. Do you really need others to get events to 40% or similar, before you join?
I rarely use LFG tool and if I want to farm events, I simply start them on my own. Maybe I will not be able to get enough people to join me, due to others farming chests or map simply being empty of active players, but I at least have a chance of getting shovels and other rewards for attacking or defending forts.
I understand frustration of being in a chest farm map while wanting to farm events, but the solution really is very simple and very fast.
Nerfing chests would make SW a terribly boring zone. There would literally be nothing else but event FARMING to do. Would you really like that?
it is still the highest statwise.
It is just limited in it`s usuability, thanks to it`s fixed stats.Legendary equipment gives you the luxury of changing them whenever you want.
However, that is the only difference (and maybe the skin then)
I still have legendary equipment on my radar. It’s just that they are so expensive, I decided to make ascended gear first and in a year or two I will be able to afford legendary pieces.
My main reason is “Hey, I want those footprints!”.
Will current ascended gear keep it’s second best position when HOT launches?
Yes, no new gear tier will be added to the game
Thank you.
Now I can craft myself some armor. Finally!
Will current ascended gear keep it’s second best position when HOT launches?
The moment you try to join “community of people” with this event, you find nothing good about it. You find spoiled, egotistical and sad individuals that will use any excuse that can help them justify their pathetic behavior.
It’s a sad picture we were presented with, with this event.
Thats what I don’t get. I join these maps and create a lfg on mapchat (something like f2p wanted too). Then I can explain and show these new people exactly how tagging is done and ping them all wp’s. Because it’s only group I tag up as commander to have guideance for new player and I explain in mapchat exactly how everyone gets his 20 stacks.
How is that not helping and creating the community, or how is that egoistical or even bad for the community???
I really don’t understand why there are toxic people especially in mapchat that write against such community help and that these people try to decrease these great gw2 values.
Once again, you are correct. And once again, there’s a “but” in there.
You do it this way. You help others understand and by that you are helping them. I can only say, kudos to you for doing that. Sadly, you are the very small minority. Most taggers were simply tagging and wp-ing. With little to no regards to anything else.
Remember, community is neither you nor me, individually. It’s a large group of individuals. So, while a certain community might be worth less than a dog poop, individuals in it can be exceptionally good.
If you are wondering what a good community of people would look like doing this event, it would be something like what is happening in Silwervaste or with Tequatl. Where people are actually encouraged to work with others. In short, what you say were doing during this event, but on a larger scale. In more general terms.
Instead of that, we got an event that actually encouraged you to NOT mind others.
Comparing this event with others, on paper, one might say there is no big difference. I thought so before event started, but the reality was different. It showed how much we, the community, need guidance and limitations so we don’t turn into a mob.
Another toxic thread… Thats kind of sad currently. You stay behind and do one event. Fine, but the problem is, that you are not porting and giving your dmg to all the other events! That slows down everyone.
So not only you get fewer stacks, you even deny stacks for others. On top of that you are toxic about these people that play the event exactly how anet designed it and wants us todo it.
Furthermore, instead of explaining new f2p player how tagging works and how they get their 20 stacks, they get told wrong things and gameplaymechanics!
This toxcity has to stop, show new player how great the gw2 community is and how fast and easy we get 20 stacks while tagging!
You have a fair point, but …
OPs complaint is that with this event, people are behaving in their worst possible manner. This event brings the poop in players and it shows. Where is camaraderie, support, helping others, doing things together? Things that defined GW2 so well until now.
Like I said, you are correct, but only if we assume that we are mindless drones that are defined solely by game’s design. It’s your choice how you behave and what you strive for. It’s your choice to either help downed player or rush to another event.
Community in this game might be good or even the best in today’s gaming world. But only if we see this community as “community of players”. The moment you try to join “community of people” with this event, you find nothing good about it. You find spoiled, egotistical and sad individuals that will use any excuse that can help them justify their pathetic behavior.
It’s a sad picture we were presented with, with this event.
Considering g600 copied Naga’s most important feature (12 thumb buttons), it’s basically the same mouse from the standpoint of comparison.
So, it’s more or less just a question of quality and personal preference. I’ve had my Naga for 3-4 years and during that time I had to repair my left mouse button (a tiny drop of super glue solved it), but other than that I’ve had no problems at all. I have no experience with g600.
I’m not talking bout wether or not it is convinient. I’m talking bout being entitled. You where rwrongly arguing your are entitled to have it in game. It is not. See it as feedback that, when making a point, entitlement is always wrong. The point you make is good and valid, ,but you are taking it down by a tone that is wrong. In fact with such a tone, you are actually making it less likely for Arenanet to listen and implement it.
Hmm, I was actually trying to not be smart kitten and/or insulting, so I have to apologize if my tone was wrong. I do fail to see what about my posts was conceived as in wrong tone, but considering these things are highly personal, an apology is the only thing I can offer at this time.
I agree with you about entitlements in general, but I am entitled to execute the freedom of posting a question about a game that I payed for an am playing. I am, after all, their customer and as such do have the right for certain entitlements.
I am not demanding, threatening, insulting or being otherwise an kitten . I am simply inquiring about the reasons for something that is perceived as standard, and devs themselves said would like to do, still not in the game. Especially since it could be very helpful and positive for the game and it’s players.
Why do people always thinking that if something isn’t in game, they refused to add it??
If I give you apples, and you make caramel apples out if them, did you refuse to make apple pie??
Why should I be entitled to have apple pie, just cause I gave you apples??
You choose to make caramel apples instead of something I gave you. Unless we agreed that you could only have them to make apple pie, I have no reason to be entitled to anything at all, let alone apple pie.Same here, they are not bound to anything to have such a tool and not having such a tool is not cause they refuse to have it. So far they have made different choices. These choices depend on a lot of factors, but most importantly, it is based on good old economics. That what is most profitable will go first.
So they either think that adding such a tool is not profitable, or it is really expensive to do both (or more likely, a bit of both). If you would make yet another post (cause there are allready a lot) bout suggesting such a feature needs to be in game…I agree. with a small sidenote.
In GW2 I allready see more people with too lil knowledge bout their build compared to GW1. I think this has to do with the lack of build diversity.
I think having such a feature to load in ready made builds from the internet would only promote this. So I’m against that function. I have no point in having a way to store your own builds (preferable serverside, so you really have them accountbound and dont need to back them up). In essence it requires you to put in a build manually once and then save it.
It’s not about every little thing that should be in the game but isn’t. I agree with you on that one. But we are talking about a build management tools in a game where builds are one of the most important features in character building.
Right now, many players change their gear and/or traits while they are running to next challenge or while they are waiting for something. And they do that with numerous clicks in inventory, character page for equipment and trait page. Why? Why so much work for something that is easily circumvented with simple tool?
You like analogies, so I will give you one. But, be warned, like all other analogies, it’s nothing more but just that.
Do you type phone number of the one you are calling or do you use it’s shortcut? You, of course are using shortcuts, like probably all other phone users. And the reason why is because it’s much easier. More convenient and user friendly.
And those are the reasons for build management tools. To make changing gear and traits easier. Because there is no apparent reason why this should be complicated or take long time.
I don’t agree with you on the effect of having such a tool. I think build management tools would have an opposite effect. Right now, I often do not change my build because I simply don’t want the hassle of clicking so many times and worrying if my inventory stayed the same as before, if I messed a trait or two because I had to hurry and all that while my screen is clogged with character and/or inventory modules. After all, that pesky Boss will not wait for me to finish changing my bow for sword.
I think such a tool will promote different builds because it will be easier to do so and many players will find that zerker gear is not necessarily the best for every situation. They will have the tool to try different builds without much hassle.
I agree it might promote using builds found on the internet. But where do you think zerkers found that ONE build they are using now? And zerkers are supposed to be majority of current player base.
It’s on their list of things to do. They’d like to do it, but they’re doing other stuff right now.
It’s been on their list of things to do for three years. I’ve never been quite sure why it’s so hard to save builds, even if you can’t load them — after all, 3rd party websites have managed this for 2.9 years.
So, I agree that they must have other priorities. What I don’t understand is why this has never been one of them.
Honestly… I feel like part of the benefit of the new specializations system is it seems to lend itself to build templates better than the old system did. So I sort of view it as a progression. They already knew it was a very popular request from sPvPers and now with Raids coming it’ll likely be more popular among PvEers as well.
Also the thing to remember is, 3rd party websites aren’t dealing directly with the GW2 engine and code, just because they have managed to do it doesn’t mean it isn’t a difficult thing to get done in game.
I’m sure you’re right that specializations make saving builds easier.
However, I have to disagree with you about saving builds in-game being more difficult than 3rd party sites — there’s nothing different about displaying the build through an in-game browser vs an external one (and GW2 already has the code built-in for display). What might be difficult is being able to apply the build to your character, rather than just showing it (so you can manually apply it).
But if that’s hard to do, I have to question why ANet made the design decision not to build in this functionality from the start — it’s a feature of nearly every other game of similar kind (including GW1).
tl;dr I get that ANet has had other things they are working on. I just have never understood why this particular, popular tool hasn’t seemed to be a priority for them.
That’s the reason I made this thread. I am positive they know we would appreciate any kind of build management options, and I am positive they are more than capable of developing it as that’s really not terribly difficult thing to make. I was just curious what the reasons for not doing it are.
I haven’t had much experience with GW2’s devs and was wondering if they are any better than ZOS’s devs and do not hide or ignore simple questions. Questions that can easily be answered by “Because …”. A long shot, I know.
Are they afraid it might bring elitism into the game?
Are they having problems with such a tool conflicting with other game systems?
Are they unsure how exactly to design it? What to allow and what not.
Is this something they would like sell to players and are just waiting for the right moment?
I am guessing you are talking about the gold conversion into gems. In that case, you are technically correct, but it’s still purchasing a story.
Either I have to play for months to accumulate enough gold for conversion or use real money. In both cases I have to buy a story. And that’s only because I wasn’t there in those two weeks.
I might be strange, but I would like to use my gold for that single most “important” piece of GW2. A legendary. And spending it for other things, especially those that should be free, is kinda unproductive.
It’s my principle that is clashing with ANet’s thirst for cash. No, I am talking about the fact that you don’t even need to own the episodes in order to actually do them.
I stand corrected.
To those that are interested in story itself and are satisfied with that alone, this is a good option.
I am sure it has been asked before and I can also see the results of that, but I am still curious as to WHY GW2 doesn’t have any in-game build management tools. Forum search is not working, so I can’t search for other similar threads.
I am especially interested in ways of changing your build with one key press or at least faster than now.
So … what is the official reasoning for GW2 not having build management tools? There must be a reason why ANet is refusing to make one, and I would appreciate if anyone can tell me what that is?
This will all change with HoT, but for now, check out

…specifically the Upgrades section.
How/what will change with HOT?
^ Why are we disregarding the fact that you do not need to pay a single $ to play the story, even if you missed the free period?
