Here is a better question.
Will the expantion have a delux version, and will i be able to buy it through the website?

Don’t worry, i don’t expect an answer for at least a few months.

considering you can buy GW2 on the website then download i would imagine the same would be true for HoT

That is not true, the only thing that remove holy trinity is downed state and no taunt. If gw2 had no downed state, there would be healer, if gw2 had taunt there would be tank. GW2 is not that far away from holy trinity.

tanking needs more than just a taunt, it needs aggro mechanics that enable you to actually tank and to preempt anyone no the new reverent taunt skill will not really let you tank it lasts 3 seconds and then the mob will go back to what it was doing before

it doesnt make sense to try to present a simpler world when your world isnt actually built that simply.

Lets say some one is new to New York City. You are not helping him by removing trains from the map, because its one of the things he is going to need. Yes trains maybe confusing, but it is more confusing to have trains hidden from you, when you actually need to use them right now.

Lets look at the TP thing. The fact that there is a TP in Divinities reach does not help you. You have no reason to go to divinities reach until level 10, but it is highly likely your inventory may fill up, and you may want to sell something before level 10. Its also fairly likely you may need to buy new equipment.

Likewise skillpoints, the game was designed to introduce you to skill points before level 10, they put them near starter areas, But then they disable them.

In theory you can make things easier by limiting people to less information, but that only works when less information is required. Its actually more confusing than not to change the rules as you go, its also a bad idea to have different people experiencing things differently.

not that a new player would know this but you can sell stuff at repair vendors if you armor doesn’t need to be repaired you can also sell stuff at any heart karma vendor

it would be far to hard to balance content focused on both ways

usually content is balanced either with or without a tank/healer type of roles implied they’d also have to drastically rework the way that aggro is handled to get trinity to work which would kill the other way entirely so while it sounds nice it just isn’t possible

Vanilla GW2 is Dead when HoT releases:

]Again, the problem is, that as currently stated by Colin, old roads will no longer be maintained at all.

Colin is stating that pre-expansion GW2 will be allowed to degrade and fall apart until it can no longer be used or played ? That is what not maintaining it would mean. There is a rather large difference between not expanding upon, “the old road,” and not maintaining it.

If the vanilla content will stop getting the occasional changes and living story, then yes, it will result in (for al practical reasons) a degradation of content. It will become dead (because stagnation in MMORPG is death).

based on

I believe it was mentioned that they would be adding “adventures” and reworking heart quests to be “repeatable” in the vanilla world.

This is mentioned in the Angry Joe interview ( don’t have a link).

But the fact he let Anet doublespeak around the questions that they did agree to answer, is a bad interview. You don’t let the person you are interviewing, start answering the question, to only deflect to a different subject and not really answer the question.

its hard to do that without seeming forceful though and so often it is better for your career as a journalist which is essential what Joe is just for games/gamers to let them get around you a bit and still what information you can then put at risk getting any

Solutions to silk prices.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tfcgeneralkmk.9508

tfcgeneralkmk.9508

Basically any solution, that enables the average player to obtain his daily silk demand on his own, without having to buy from the tp, will most certainly crash the silk prices because the silk that people get who dont need it (as a byproduct of playing), wont have a demand anymore.
Thats the status quo of leather right now.

Mithril is a different story, because it has a huge additional sink in crafting rare weapons for precursors.
If mithril would drop by only 10 copper, it would result in at least 50g off the final precursor price, so additional supply for mithril is sucked up for that.

Silk prices wont have such a safeguard.

lets say it takes 2-3 hours to get 300 silk without intent or 300:2.5 or 120 silk per hour.
then there should be a method that gives you more silk per hour, with intent
lets say 300 silk per hour.
now, you say, then people will oversupply silk!
keep in mind, people will only use the 300 silk per hour method, and sell it, if the value is worth an hour of their time, or they thorughly enjoy getting and selling silk.

so lets look at it. let say people can get silk for 300 per hour, if silk was 2 silver, that would still only be 6 gold per hour.
grinders make more than that right now. If the price drops to 1 silver (well above vendor, and not bad relative to other crafts) then they would be making 3 gold an hour, which is a pretty crappy rate of return

so they stop doing it that way.

you dont have to fear a direct method of obtaining silk, because people will only bring silk from that method to market, if they feel they are getting paid well for their time. As far as silk going down in value for the randomly generated types, due to less demand, yes it will go down in value, up to the point where people feel 300 silk in an hour would be worth to gather for themselves.

See, with a direct method, people will actually be paying the value that they think silk/time is worth, rather a value that is more disconnected.

it works, trust me, how do you think soft wood still has value, while not being useful for mystic forging, because even though there is a direct method that gives greater amounts, people are willing to pay other people to do the task.

yep i feel like this or improving salvage rates is the only to help people perceived problem without completely crashing silk

I don’t see how the market-dictated price of silk is a problem to begin with. You might not like how much it costs, but that’s just the way it goes.

No it’s not, it’s Anet way of price manipulation way back 1.5 year ago.
They looked at the price of the silks back then and decide to make silk consumption way more than other ascended material. They manipulated the demand so much to try to “balance” the market. (Because silk was like 7 copper back then)

However they didn’t do enough research and overdid the effort to make silk’s price broken. If they broke the market, they should fix it by lowering down the material requirement to the level of other materials because there’s no longer any excess supply.
The market is already balanced, so they should revert this intentional consumption of silk.

My suggestion is make silk thread cost 50 silks to make. Also make Ascended Insignia cost one bolt of damask and one elonian leather to balance out the consumption of both silk and leather. (I know you’re going to say how about armorsmith? Easy, just make armorsmith able to craft elonian leather.)

It should not be a problem for Anet to manipulate the market because THEY ALREADY DID IT BACK THEN.

your solution in my opinion (not that i’m an economic expert) will have a much greater effect on the price of silk than you think it will , i’d expect it to drop way more than 50% probably be lucky to keep it above vender it will probably end up at elderwood and mithril prices 20-40c per

And what is so bad about that? That’s the price it should be.
Not the manipulated price Anet imposed on us by over consuming silk.
Mithril ore, Elder Wood are also around that price.
Why try to exploit the armors crafting more than weapons?

well i was trying to think of solutions that would fit the mold John Smith seemed to dictate in his posts in the other thread that the price of silk shouldn’t change or change much

Why is silk going up in price?

Farming specifically for silk -is- possible, the currently available methods are just not very engaging, and not something most people look into for that same reason.

Well, remember, there’s farming and then there’s farming. With resources like metal and wood, you can actually harvest it, guaranteed 9+ units per node you see, maps with specific node locations, boom boom boom, resources. With things like silk, there’s always RNG. Yes, there are places you can go where you are very likely to get large amounts of silk over a given period of time, as large amounts of trash mobs spawn that have a solid chance of dropping silk, but it’s still pretty variable and takes more effort (not that effort is necessarily a bad thing, but relative effort needed should always be considered).

From October through January the price of silk went down and its supply up. During all that time, it was 300 scraps for 1 bolt of damask. So it cant really be at the heart of the changes of silk going back up now.

And nobody is saying that it is. The point people is making is that it’s a major factor in the overall natural level of the silk market. Obviously they could leave that aspect alone and still fix the problem by tweaking other elements, but people are pointing this out as a clear point of imbalance that could perhaps be leveled out to make the overall balance process easier. I mean, what could you do to alter silk prices?

  • reduce/raise the number of scraps needed for a bolt
  • reduce/raise the number of bolts needed for Damask
  • reduce/raise the number of bolts needed for insignia
  • reduce/raise the number of bolts needed for standard items (minimal impact here)
  • reduce/raise the number of Damask needed for Ascended armors
  • add/remove items that require silk to craft
  • Allow people to use metal or leather for Insignia.
  • reduce/raise the amount of silk that drops onto current sources
  • reduce/raise the variety of creatures that drop silk in significant quantities
  • provide some entirely new harvesting method, like Mulberry Bushes.
  • add NPC vendors that will accept silk in exchange for valued items.

Note of course that most of these would apply to any resource. They could make any of these changes in any combination they felt appropriate towards making silk more or less expensive. The easier they make it for players to generate silk, or the less useful they make having silk, the lower the price would get, and the more annoying they make it to generate silk or the more desirable they make silk products, the higher the price will get.

Exactly, so all we need to do, is wait for the next silk happy festival to come around.
This worked already to bring the price down and supply up, without people having to go “grind” silk. They just play the content.

That just creates an unhealthy cycle of bubbles. It works great for players that “play” the markets, because they can stay on top of these trends, horde mats when they have a bubble low, and sell them off when there are bubble highs, but it works terribly for the average player, who pays no attention to these trends, and just wants to make something out of silk during a bubble high, or just wants to sell off the silk he just collected during the middle of a bubble low.

The ideal goal is for these bubbles to be as minimal as possible, that when they put a bubble source in the game that raises supply, they also add a short-term dump for the resource that reduces supply/increases demand.

I only salvage Cloth armor from my SW bags. Metal and Leather armors get forged until they are Cloth armor.

Is that really efficient? I salvage cloth and just vendor metal/leather. The odds of getting more silk than the vendor value of 4+greens seems risky to me.

9 units per node isn’t that only for rich veins?

i feel any proposed change that affects ascended crafting is going to tank silk prices way more than the proposer of said idea think

i think it would be generous to assume it would only fall about 50% possibly much more than that.

I believe the most beneficial solution is to make a more effective way of getting silk or at least you know you can get might not affect the price much but should ease the burden on craftors of light ascended by making it so you know you will eventually get enough on your own

I would say that your loot is based on pure RnG and MF is just a made up stat that anet uses as a gold sink,

I used to farm a lot in this game, and when MF was changed I pushed it to 300% base fairly fast, ( I do not regret this ) but a friend of mine who refuses to use MF seems to get way better general loot that me when out in the open world, even though his MF is over 200% lower than mine,

Given all that and now that Anet seem to be pushing rewards into boxes instead of drops ( IE silverwastes ) MF is nearly no use at all here, and Anet stay mute on this topic because as the stands people are still sinking gold into MF.

how are you using gold to get MF buying random items to salvage? i don’t think it was intended as a gold sink since there is no direct way to get if for gold

If you buy Globs of Ectoplasm you can salvage them for a large amount of Luck Essence. You can then sell the resulting T6 dust to buy more Ecto, however you will take a gold loss on the transaction.

ah thanks, saw they were salvagable but didn’t want to lose 30+s if what resulted wasn’t worth it

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: tfcgeneralkmk.9508

tfcgeneralkmk.9508

It looks to me like the storyline, HoT zone “skill challenges” and possibly some other sources will give mastery points.

I remember hearing that post 80, with HoT you’d earn mastery points instead of skill points.

So my interpretation of that is this:
- at level 80
Two options:
1)“level up” as normal and gain a mastery point
2)select a mastery to train and exp bar becomes a mastery training progress bar.

It sounds like the latter may be something like n*level 80 exp to complete ( say n = 3, you’d need 3 tomes of knowledge to complete*).

  • As a possibility. I can see why this would need R&D time.

Gotta say I’m intrigued by it. I’ll still be hoarding writs of experience and tomes till HoT ( if nothing else, easy level of my rev and nothing else to do with them..) It does just sound like dual grind though (once for mastery points, twice for mastery training).

for #2 i believe masteries are also based on what zone or region you are in like you won’t get mastery points towards gliding in core tryia

Gold reward rework.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tfcgeneralkmk.9508

tfcgeneralkmk.9508

Basically what was said was
" you don’t need to grind, you can do fun stuff for gold."

The only sufficient gold reward I see in game, comes from dungeons or meta events and unfortunately, I’m not a big fan.

I’m not sure what you’re doing outside of dungeons and meta events, but I do have a steady cash flow while having fun in game.

While I’m exploring the world (either on leveling alts or on those 80s still into map exploration), I can harvest a good amount of crafting material, especially on the mid-level maps, gather lots of different equipment (for salvaging) and loot bags from the foes I meet, gain a handfull of skillpoints (that will give me something worthwhile at the mystic forge once I’ve got all of that character’s utilities unlocked), get story rewards from personal story that have a good chance of containing dyes or other interesting resources, and so on.

I’ve easily gathered all the materials and most of the gold for my legendary of choice (including buying the precursor on the tp) while having fun. No grind involved. The only thing actually keeping me from crafting that legendary is my habit of wasting my gold on gems to unlock even more character slots every time I really get close to buying the precursor .

What are the areas of the game that you find fun? I’m having a hard time of thinking of anything that doesn’t let you gather gold on the side.

Yup your point is extremely valid and I can’t deny that I do get loot from every aspect of the game. I like doing everything in game but I honestly dislike the grouping system in dungeons. People rage if I make mistakes or do something wrong and my self esteem is low so I avoid them.

But,
the fact is that the gold reward for dungeons is significantly higher. If I decide to do a day of dungeons I can make more money than I would doing maybe 2-3 days of wvw. Especially If I am scouting / roaming. Same goes for exploration or PvP.

And to the person complaining about inflation you clearly didn’t read the whole OP. I don’t wish for any changes in gold rewards to take place UNLESS there are some more gold sinks in place.

you should find yourself a good guild doing so alleviated that problem for me at least

Secondly, a wild rant != good feedback in any situation.

Let me ask a question, if you could farm silk specifically, but slowly, so the price remained what it currently is or higher, would that be better or worse?

I think reducing the some of the randomness would be beneficial and make it so players can feel like they are making consistent progress rather than the hit and miss nature of salvaging

Apart from the fact that a new usage can magically appear into the game that requires vast quantities of it? See Silk before Ascended crafting was introduced for a precedent.

thats true but with the amount you get from any equipment box coming off a champ so far around 5-10 things of dust , will make it come back just as quickly so i don’t think its quite the same thing unless they nerf the droprate as well

How is it even possible? Reward system...

seriously people if you are encountering drop reductions GO DO SOMETHING ELSE

farming orr for silk or the material bags farm a different zone in orr for a while doing a dungeon do a different one its not that hard to get around you just have to vary your play style

as to OP sorry you have been unlucky

and to those saying RNG isn’t truly random your right but i’d imagine the systems are nested into each other that it might as well be

Shaogin/Andred thank you for the response. Yeah title is terrible I admit.

@tfcgeneralkmk it is not about you. It is about the community. I dont care for back skins either, there are enough lovely looking but, poeple cant turn off what you see on other poeple and it impacts the atmosphere. You only read 30% of my post, and not carefully.

care to read my rather long post again i replied to you point by point and ok i will give you the thing about backpacks

Dear Anet, plz remove limit on these items.

also Doggie idk if you know this but you can make bricks out of the dust that will help you cut down on some of it think you need a certain amount of crafting though

how are fractals not dungeons they are tough 5-man instanced content huh just like a lvl 80 dungeon would be

- necros have more ultility than people seem to think have you played one that isn’t a MM? wells, marks, signets all provide some cool effects as good as other classes maybe not but not nonexistent and even MM have some good abilities to add just pathing problems make it hard

-meh skins are cosmetic could care less
- would be good not sure if possible within the wallet UI

they offer an item in black lion venders (near the portal to the mists in LA) to convert them into catchall boosters

if you don’t like outfits don’t buy them obviously people do or they wouldn’t make them

- world bosses have chances for good loot just extremly small probably could use a buff

-No absolutely not this is a very bad idea, it would remove the only incentive people have to convert gold into gems and make it so all of it would flow gem—> gold which would cause prices to rise across the board

- also a bad idea while i don’t particular care for the black lion chests and won’t spend my money to buy keys they are probably a pretty profitable item so getting rid of them would be bad for the game

-meh minis like cosmetic items don’t have much appeal to me but the gem store is where they belong imo other than special event minis

- lets wait for the crafting pre’s to come out before gripping about them for a
while

-the thing about DLC is its only kitten to the industry when it is bad and when you didn’t get a full product in the original price of the game i feel like i have gotten my 50$ worth and i have only scratched the surface of what I can do , a couple missions for about 2$ (200 gems) seems like a good deal to me could it be better probably is it bad no

-why not just increase overall movement speed by 25% then those skills add dimensions to combat outrun a aoe , projectile etc survive by deaggroing a mob via distance

there is a thing called a notepad IRL (shock) write down general areas or improve your memory a bit or ask for help in game favorites aren’t needed tryia is a good size but its not that big that you can’t find a way point within 20-30seconds of looking in a zone

you can turn off back items and reskin the ones you don’t’ like

any optimization is good so i can’t disagree there hopefully some of these will be addressed in the march patch with FP camera and other camera changes

its unlocking an entire new set of zones in tyria so i don’t think you have to worry about that

will buy

Dude throw it away. You must’ve realised by now you can get it rather easy if you need some.

Ps Mawdrey basically turns 0 Copper in 0+X copper while X can’t be <1. Recently she gave me a exotic worth 2 gold.

I can’t, I explained why already.

not really you used a common phrase adapted to tyria that mothers use to get the kids to eat greens and figured that would be enough of an explanation for why you don’t get rid of stuff you said you (probably unless they listen to you ) won’t ever use
