you should post some comparison screenshots before people go messing with settings, eh?
curious: how many people comlaining about lousy loot have low magic find? and do those people ever salvage, to increase magic find, and make resources?
you people need help
all the way till we are all flappy birds.
flying mounts confirmed
- Long Range Shot deals more DPS than Rapid Fire.
does this claim account for vulnerability? (assuming group situation)
hmm. i’ve been standing at 1500 range on alpha (it was an alternative tactic because people couldn’t do the stack), and there were times when i had no aoe on me at all, even though others did. maybe it’s just that his range isn’t that long, but i don’t think so. it seemed like there was a finite number of aoe’s. i’m not even sure my pets were getting hit all the time either (but that could speak for players being prioritized).
would love to see some tests!
Why would anybody actually buy AC p3 for any amount of gold? Its like 15 minutes even with terrible pug group.
oh sweetie. you haven’t seen pug groups terrible enough.
what about mystic forge kits though?
did you try it with pet movement boost traited? (only really relevant for melee pets i guess)
interesting. it made me think of alphard, who deals damage instantly with his bomb instead of a moment later at the end of explosion animation. maybe they did something wrong with certain special abilities? could explain why your aegis dropped on animation start. did the aoe actually do any damage?
i’m still curious as to whether we’re supposed to report a bot one time, or keep on reporting it when we see it.
[ … Very Long, Did Read! … ]
cheers. an overview of setup options is a good thing. some people cling to their statements without supplying background information, and in those cases, it often seems like such an overview is simply not in place.

if the group is not “optimal” (depending on perspective, obviously), it’s a good idea to be a little more self-sufficient. i’ve tried running without AH in some builds, but i came back to it, because it makes me better at staying alive. sometimes dps just isn’t the answer – or at least, it’s not a good idea to focus solely on that.
There’s really no reason why you should be dying on a guard at all. I’ve run full zerk DPS-spec hammer guard (15/25/10/20/0) and just facetanked everything in multiple dungeons without ever dodging.
High armor + natural regen + strong heal skills + tons of defensive boons = full AFK mode.
the experience of 1 player is often dependent on the 4 others. so like… when what you’re getting from your team mates isn’t exactly what you need, it’s good to have some additional resources yourself.
that’s my point, restated. there’s no afk’ing ouside of tightly knit/high-performing groups.
(unless you’re full clerics or something, but that’s rather dull, i imagine.)
barrage cripples, though.
seconding “stupid”.
(where’s the downvote button?)

You know another sign of a bot? Jumbled up names and – OH MY GOD THOMASajkdbajlkbajklbaga!
:P
i just wanted something that signified a Display Name in Guild Wars 2… but no numbers were allowed (and “gjk” is elsewise related).
but yeah, bot names do tend to look weird. but honestly, i’ve seen weirder stuff coming from actual players… ;P
they would like you to send a video to exploits of you showing the bot,his name, his id,his movement, the map he uses etc etc.
where did they say this? doesn’t make sense to have an in-game report option called “botting” if it requires all this additional stuff. a video? that’s seperate software, they would never demand that for a report to be taken seriously?!
hmm care to share traits of bot? coz i never notice any..
if you’re “lucky”, you can see some in the frostgorge area. they keep going into HOTW and visiting merchants/waypoints in the area (they also pop into hoelbrak sometimes).
it’s quite easy to notice them once you’ve seen a few of them. they do perfectly similar turns, jumps, that sort of thing.
i keep seeing them around certain spots (quite predictable behavior), and i keep reporting them. however, i’m not even sure the reports reach anyone.
is there any confirmation that bot reports are actually used for anything? because the bots are still there (i know they’re the same by their name – i also have them on my block list now, just to be sure)…
can’t be bothered to spend time on this if it’s not doing anything.
running bombs is not always a good thing, esp. if you tend to just stand there and ogle your numbers.
i’ve found the flamethrower to be a better tool for dealing damage and staying somewhat out of harms way.
the pet gets instagibed non-stop from absurd aoe spam.
if you know the pet’s gonna die anyway, why not just keep it on passive? for a somewhat clumsy, but doable, condition cleanser? i daresay a brown bear by your side is gonna live long enough to be helpful that way.
it still seems ridiculous that the aggro in this game targets such a fragile class as the ele way too much
maybe that’s the point. put pressure on the squishies, and something might break. isn’t that a valid A.I. tactic?
Stigmatizing bears only hurt the class. You cant have it all passive and on demand condition clear and a damage build. You have to pick your poison. Only 3 classes in the game have shouts. So if you chose to not use the rune set that give condition clear on shouts that’s your choice but don’t act like you didn’t have the option.
is anyone running something like this?
All i wish for is a reasonable range. I shouldnt throw a grenade farther than my bullets go.
didn’t you know? engineers have VERY strong arms. it comes from all the hammering (yes, engineers invent stuff using hammers).
Because this trait exists anyone wanting to use grenades absolutely has to get it thereby hampering build diversity.
isn’t that rather common? to focus on a given weapon, you go into the trait line that contains stuff pertaining to it? seems to me it makes sense… can’t have it all.
It’s actually not common at all.
Elixirs are good without 30 points into Alchemy.
Pistol and Rifle are both useful without 30 points into Firearms.
Bombs are good without 30 points in Explosives.
Gadgets are useful without 30 points into Tools.Certainly you could trait into these things to make them even better, but these are just a few examples of skills/weapons that are commonly used by Engineers that don’t require traiting fully into just to be (gulp, here I go…) “viable”.
It’s not just an Engineer thing either. Imagine if Elementalist attunements were only worth using if they had 30 points into the corresponding attunement trait line? Yikes!
i’m referring to all the cases – outside of engineer – where e.g. a cooldown reduction or range increment requires you to go into a certain trait line.
is your only idea of damage mitigation to dodge?

i guess if you want to rely on the pet for an offload of conditions… it’s gotta be the brown bear. but i’m also guessing no one really wants to get caught with that out ;-D
good players dodge, good players don’t stand in red circles, good players pop utilities which nullify certain types of attacks. The pet does none of this. It just stands there and takes it.
and that is why it has a lot of hitpoints, and that is why you have 2 of them, that can be swapped instantly.
but you have signet of renewal…
i’m commenting, not “disputing”
i’m well aware how efficient stacking can be. however, it creates a rather narrow playstyle, which shows in builds and behavior – some people i’ve run with, even when i specify “no rush/skip”, are seemingly unable to think of the dungeon in any other way than the usual “run there, stack there”. i do not believe that is healthy!
but besides that – it’s not the gear i meant as an “extreme”. it’s the style. stacking requires a focus on protection and damage that not all players are able to live up to. it also requires certain skills, or professions (depending on encounter/boss).
there’s plenty of stuff that can go wrong. granted, if you’re only running with people that you know/trust, it’s not an issue. but sometimes, it’s not a bad thing to have someone outside the range of influence of the enemy. lack of endurance, lack of hitpoints, lack of defensive skills, those things could mean that in a stack, you’d be looking at more frequent revives. in which case, ranged is preferable.
and pets don’t even need to be revived, and they come in pairs. =)
Boon sharing is limited to melee range. To be a benefit to the group through sharing boons you have to stay very close (less than 300 units) to the group.
emphasis mine. why this number? it depends on what’s being used. also, 300 doesn’t count as melee range, does it now…
there’s a pretty big caveat as well: if you don’t have a group (composition) that is able to do a stack safely, it makes no sense to attempt it.
i’m pretty sure thinking in extremes is causing trouble for the community. i also think it helps make the game stale for some.
i use lich form over plague, because the latter seems to have less of an impact in general.Outside of 30 points into soul reaping this is our ONLY form of stability.
well… there’s lich form.
And plague
no troll then, aight =)
those players should be glad that you were able to get the boss down, instead of having a wipe.
for stacks, i default to greatsword (using LB to apply some vulnerability, and some aoe for the occasional adds). pet needs to be managed too, so it doesn’t do too much on its own =)
impressive how you managed all that with so little punctuation.
or like, are you a troll
Outside of 30 points into soul reaping this is our ONLY form of stability.
well… there’s lich form.
MadBomber.3719, what do you die from? are you failing dodges? are you failing to remove conditions?
maybe your battle awareness is low? seems to me you like being in melee, which is not always a good idea, even if you could theoretically do the most dps there.
i guess that’s some sort of compliment. but trust me, i really don’t look like that in a bikini.
…oh i get it. robertul.3679 is running bots.
;P
if a person with OCD mimics bot behavior perfectly, i guess it still counts for bot behavior. meaning, it’s reportable. :P
sword/x or GS (25-30% less dps then sword) both are better
yeah that’s what i thought.
but melee is fickle as a ranger, esp. with the sword “sticking” to the target.
you prob. won’t be able to stand around chucking numbers at the enemy 24-7, which is exactly why ranged damage becomes relevant.
that’s a silly image.
bunch of numbers
was this supposed to illustrate how all classes do “about 20% of a party damage”?… (it didn’t)
because dolphins are peaceful animals. they would never get into a fight. that’d just be downright rude!
Dolphins have been known to attack sharks watcha talking about~
stop being so irl ;P
Well I actually have played everything except endgame ele and guard. And yes – they all do about 20% of a party damage.
i don’t think you’ve been toying around with gear and trait setup enough, then. like, you can make builds within the same profession that does double the damage of other builds in there. meaning, some builds do awful damage. compare across the board, and it should be clear that some players might be running stuff that’s absolutely terrible dps, while other are running very high dps.
sure, support, buff, heal, control, whatever… but the damage component is not that uniform. at all.
gotta do the heaviness (i.e. damage mitigation) via magic. that makes sense.
because dolphins are peaceful animals. they would never get into a fight. that’d just be downright rude!
In the end everyone deals about the same dps, this is how gw2 works.
no… no, they absolutely don’t. it’s very clear to see if you’ve played a bunch of classes and tried a bunch of builds.
