You can can’t nerf the best tank/bunker weaponset because you bad players can’t learn how to counter/stunbreak properly. I play an absolutely full bunker build with 0 damage running mace/shield and sword/warhorn and I rely on that long stun to help reduce damage on me. Nerfing my ability to stay alive just because you can’t learn how to counter a build that wastes one whole weapon set just to use 1 stun is possibly the dumbest idea I have ever heard.
Now go outside and actually practice before raging like a kitten.

I’m just gonna go ahead and re-post my picture from another thief thread and it should fix your problem.

Stupid idea.
If thieves can have permanent stealth then I can have permanent precision.
Currently the only way to counter stealth is with aoe damage spamming so if you want to survive in stealth then a play a kittening more tanky build you useless glasscannon kittening kitten.

@Excalibur: I don’t like you taking my posts and starting a thread with them to get thieves buffs..
If you read I said they are useless IMHO (that means in my honest opinion if you didn’t know..).
They aren’t actually useless but to me they are since I prefer running tank/bunker/heal builds and thief doesn’t provide me with any of that.
While they are useless to me they are useful to anyone who:
1. Likes super high mobility and scouting for WvW
2. Wants to provide quick and fast yet very high burst damage.
3. Likes to troll people (useless to anyone except entertainment)
4. Can offer permanent stealth/nearly 100% able to leave a fight if needed to survive.
+ tons of extras that pro thieves could think of.
They do not need a buff and no matter what buff they get I will still not like thief since it can’t offer me the playstyle I like.
p.s Exaclibur stop raging on other forums about their OPness and then ask for buffs on the one class who is actually in need of a big nerf to their major class mechanic; stealth.

Comparing sword on a thief to a sword on a ranger is silly.
Sword is atm a rangers highest DPS weapon they can have whereas for thief sword is definitely not the highest DPS weapon.
It’s like comparing a potato on a stick to a steel mace, you’re gonna have a bad time.
I’m not denying a thief’s effectiveness with sword (I run S/D on my thief and refuse to go D/D) but it still isn’t the highest damage weapon available. It is the best AoE damage since the auto is AoE and hits pretty hard.

@Scoobaniec
It’s quite obvious that we are not looking for the exact same buffs as the other similar skills on other professions but adding projectile blocking/reflecting is not gonna make it OP (can only block/reflect projectiles, melee hits and control abilities will still affect it).
It works logically because if I’m holding two axes or an axe and a sword and start spinning wildly fast then any arrows that come flying at me are going to be intercepted by my psycho spinning axes and effectively smacked away or chopped in half.

I would like to see this since on my tank warrior I run an Axe offhand and having reflect to reduce damage even more would be appreciated!

Get warrior definitely.
I have all professions full geared out at lvl 80 and I hate my thief. IMHO most useless class at every aspect of the game except running around, and if you are running away from people in PvP then you are sort of doing the exact opposite of fighting and will spend most of your time walking around the map or away from people when you take 3+ hits. Lets be honest, no one likes walking the entire WvW map yet thieves do it every fight they encounter because you don’t actually notice how much time is spent running on a thief.

Sword leap, warhorn swiftness, greatsword whirl, greatsword charge, bullsrush and low cd on weapon skills allows for long chains. You would only use this setup when you are not expecting to be engaging in pvp and can afford to waste some cds but you go absolutely flying across the map.

@entire thread
How about … no?
Warrior gets one strong roaming build and everyone loses their kitten claiming “EXTREMELY OP” “NO COUNTER” “I’M PRO AND DON’T NEED TO L2P”
1. Everyone complaining warrior is unbeatable and the most OP kitten in the game: You’re wrong.
2. Heard of stun break? It’s a lovely utility that..wait for it..GETS YOU OUT OF STUNS!!! :O :O :O, so.. try using one next time you are actually IN THE ACTUAL skullcrack stun because he will have used adrenaline, won’t be able to 100b you and has to wait for adrenaline to recharge!!!!!!! amazing right?
3. Healing signet does 400HPS and unless you are doing 0 damage then all you need is at least 2-3k DPS and you have already negated the effects of healing signet (you will just be 400dps lower and even my super mega tank build hits hard enough to negate it so any thief/zerk/strong build can effectively outdps the signet.) Also.. there is a condition called poison and what it does is lower the amount of heals this mystically magical all-power signet does.
4. I have all 8 classes at 80 fully geared with lvl 80 exotics built for WvW and I can safely say that my warrior has seen the least WvW action second only to my thief (cos thieves are useless), I have only recently started playing it because I am using my 4k armour build which is literally one of the few builds where that signet is actually powerful (since I negate enough damage through armour for signet to be effective.)
5. For about the 4444469th time you really need to learn to play GW2 PvP. Learn to kite a melee warrior (to make it easier; if they are holding a blunt object or a blade then this is a melee weapon). Use cripple and chill and USE YOUR OWN PROFESSIONS STUNS/DAZES FOR GODS SAKE. Kite doesn’t mean ranged damage. You can slow them up, force their own movement impairment removals on CD and then rush in with a stun/daze/immobilise then burst their hairy kitten down. Rinse and repeat.
6. Just because you got killed a handful of times by a warrior using this build (I bet that it was probably the same warrior) who just happened to be much better at PvP and know how to fight. A couple of lost duels =/= mega OP super ultra meta build. Try actually fighting a significant sample of different warriors before crying like a little kitten.
7. Just because one specific build on one specific class can kill you (I bet anyone on any class with any build could faceroll you just from the stupidity of your comments) doesn’t mean it needs to be nerfed. There a probably thousands of other players out there running a different and better build than you on your class and could easily kill/survive a fight against one of these warriors. Your addiction to big numbers is your problem in that you think you can just use the same rotation on anyone and win. If your build was able to kill everyone they came across then it would be OP right? Well this warrior build can’t do that. It can win MOST fights against average players who don’t like adapting to change and, heaven forbid, should they lose some of their super power just to survive??? UNACCEPTABLE!!
I had to dumb it down a bit since you obviously weren’t understanding the very simple direct and justified answers to your “Noob at PvP” thread and I think this post might actually help you to actually learn a way to counter BEFORE crying about your lack of skill.
(a bit insultive post but nothing that was uncalled for and is totally necessary in order to drill it into this numpty’s head)

I use 1680×1050 which is both the native and max resolution for my monitor. If I were to hook up to my TV or get a bigger monitor, I would certainly go for a larger resolution. I don’t need my icons to be any larger than what they are and to go with the same resolution on a larger screen would do just that.
The problem is how ACs target. They use line of sight from the player’s perspective instead of from the character’s in game. Since not everyone will have the same fov and since fov is too easily manipulated, there will always be a problem. ANet needs to change the way ACs target so that resolution doesn’t make a difference.
After work today, I’ll be going through and flagging all the ‘name and shame’ posts in the thread for admin review.
So.. essentially… you are saying that if someone has a better system set up than you do, then they are cheating.
Sounds logical.
Nah mate he’s saying if you are cheating then you are cheating. If you gain an extremely unfair advantage over other players (getting a view field they can’t and are able to exploit this to destroy defense siege) then that is the exact definition of cheating.

I don’t like the way armours are done on asura. I’m a very aesthetics sorta guy and having the best looking armour to me is just as important as having the right stats. I have an Asura ele and Asura mesmer and I can safely say I wish I had made them human. I have a human thief and don’t think about being other races when playing him since I actually am able to enjoy the armour on him.
Functionality wise however, asura work a lot better at mentally messing with an opponent and makes you a smaller target; although this is minimal now since people have gotten used to it, except new players.

Okay so I decided to make this build ingame and test it out.
A few changes were made:
Weapons – am now using Mace/Shield and Sword/Axe to give some extra DPS/AoEs (Mace and Axe have zerker stats)
Runes – changed runes to 5x Superior rune of the Engineer and 1x Superior rune of Mercy; just for the extra 25 toughness.
Trinket gems – I kept the Knights gems in the trinkets since Azurites cost quite a lot and I still get the same toughness.
Traits – I decided to go for Missile Deflection over Cleansing Ire since 50% of WvW damage is ranged and I am blocking a lot EDIT: Ok well while Missile deflection gives a bit more damage I am heavily lacking in condition removal for a tank build so I retraited for Cleansing Ire. I kept Vigorous Shouts since I am still using two Shout utilities and it heals for 1.5k which isn’t toooo bad. Also I kept Warrior’s Sprint because that 25% speed buff is lovely when roaming and gives me more kiting ability in fights to allow Healing Signet to tick off more.
Right now stats are:
Attack: 2749
Crit Chance: 38%
Toughness: 3967 (I can get 4111 with food and using Sword instead of Mace since sword has knights stats)
Health: 23435
Healing: 300
Boon Duration: 30%
Crit Damage: 15%
Utilities: Healing Signet, Fear me!, Shake it Off, Dolyak Signet and Signet of Rage
After fighting a few duels and 1v2’s I can safely say that this build is extremely sustainable and will eventually wear down enemies. Using the blocks from Mace/Shield gives me time to recover with Healing Signet (3 second block = 1.2k heal) + the three stuns/dazes available with Mace/Shield add up to 5 seconds which is a 2k heal. I am basically kiting the enemy with Mace/Shield to build up HP and then rushing them with Sword/Axe using sword leap to immobilise followed by Sword burst for a 4 sec immobilise and then axe 5/4 for damage. I currently get about 3-4k damage using Axe 5 and with sword 3 I have hit 2-3k so the damage isn’t non-existent. After I dps I switch back to Mace/Shield and start again, using Mace for weakness also helps Regen from Signet.
This build is lovely at dropping glass cannons since 4k armour is gonna screw them up bad. I won a 1v2 against a thief and warrior, fight took awhile but I wasn’t worried about dying (they may have been average players but I’m not a PvP god and this is the first time trying this build). Had a stalemate with a hammer guard, neither of us could sufficiently drop each other and eventually he D/Ced.
None of my gear is ascended cos I’m too poor in laurels/don’t dungeon much at all so this build is purchasable off the TP
Heres a picture of stats:

Yea I’m not too worried about having pathetic damage mainly just huge survivability. So I should focus more on condition removal, I was stacking the kitten out of toughness because as a warrior there is no reliable way to apply protection. Thanks for the input so far.

Okay so I was messing around with the build editor for warrior trying to find an extreme survival build focusing on toughness/armour. I was looking to find a way to become practically unkillable in WvW whilst solo roaming and fighting multiple enemies and I came up with this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNApeSjkOFvVPOP4wBE0jrQDrCVh5I9QMQj0A-jUCBYMCi0yQ0AA0HgJQFRjtspIas6FYqTER1ecFRrWIAZjBA-w
Stats are:
Attack: 2984
Crit chance: 32%
Armour: 3930
Health: 24532
Boon duration: 30%
Heal power: 300
Crit damage: 10%
Traits:
0
0
30: I, II, IX
30: I, VIII, XII
10: III
This is using full Knights set + trinkets with Superior Rune of the Dolyak in armour and Exquisite Azurite Jewels in trinkets.
Weapons would be Mace/Shield (or sword/shield for better mobility) and Hammer.
Does anyone know roughly the calculations for armour and tell me if this build with these stats is effective at achieving ‘unkillable’ status?
EDIT: I was thinking and should I take Missile Deflection over Cleansing Ire? With Mace/Shield I can block a lot and with reflection I will be able to output more damage. With Cleansing Ire though I am expecting to be hit quite a lot (hence the major toughness) and extra adrenaline with more condi removal seems appealing. Thoughts?

1) Primarily a melee class, but has the lowest health. – You have the lowest health because you can’t be seen/targeted for over 60% of a fight. Stealth equates to your lower health.
2) Free the slot open for a medium-class dervish, without disrupting the grid – As stated before, Warrior and Gaurdian effectively fill the role of a Dervish.
3) Engie is ranged, so doesn’t really need the heavy armor. – Engi ‘not needing it’ doesn’t justify thief getting it.
4) We would no longer get PvE prejudice and could get in on all the ‘heavy armor’ only PuGs. – You don’t get PvE prejudice because of your medium armor, you get it because thieves are not made for PvE. Everyone knows thieves were built around PvP ability, therefore adding extra toughness won’t change your low PvE usefulness.
5) more useful in ZvZ, GvG, PvE due to being made more durable. – If you are constantly zerging with a thief then you are doing it wrong. Thieves are a super high mobility/sneaky profession that excels a lot better at scouting areas or solo roaming. Thieves are good at GvGs since they can easily and quickly get behind enemy lines, have stealth stomp, can focus weakened/damaged opponents to finish them of with high burst, etc.. I covered thieves problems with PvE and basically more toughness doesn’t fix your bad PvE ability.
6) Wouldn’t need to rely on perma-stealth abuse as much or at all and therefore reduce the hate. – Trust me. Thieves getting extra toughness without sacrificing damage will NOT abandon permastealth. They will just be able to permastealth more/survive aoes better.
Yes, thieves are a melee class but you aren’t and never will be a guard or war since they are taking 100% of the attacks thrown at them in melee range whereas thieves take much less due to stealth prohibiting them from being targeted.
To sum up, it is a terrible idea and the reasons provided are not logical.

So I finally made a mesmer (which was the last profession I had to level to 80) after putting it off for ages as I didn’t like the way it ‘looked’ to play. Weird I know but that’s just me. So I made one to finish off all classes and I’m surprised to actually be enjoying it.
Now up to this point I made a power build with knights set and zerker trinkets for WvW (I WvW about 85% of my time) and it has been working lovely at getting me introduced to the playstyle and the shatter mechanic, but now I’m looking to make a build that I have seen a bunch of mesmers successfully pull off in WvW about harassment of groups. They can front up to a smallish group and absolutely tick them off by way of mentally screwing with them through clones/invis/dazes etc.. and without dying in the process.
What I’m looking to achieve is this and I’m not too worried about very low dmg, I just want to be able to live super-mega long and kitten everyone off. I was thinking maybe Sentinel or Soldiers gear – sentinels gives more survivability than soldiers with the extra vitality – and probably soldiers trinkets too.
For traits I was thinking:
0
0
30 Illusionary Defense, Debilitating Dissipation, Chaotic Dampening
30 Mender’s Purity, Wardens Feedback, Restorative Illusions
10 Masterful Reflection
One question will decide if I use sword though, does Masterful Reflection work for the Sword #2 evade attack? or is that not counted as a distortion?
Was going to use Staff and Sword/Focus (if sword works with Masterful Reflection)
or Staff and Scepter/Focus
To sum up: Need super mega survival build that doesn’t need good damage.

Great fights all around
That whole epic bay fight went on for almost 30 minutes and was full of quality fighting, and yes the loot bags we got were overwhelming. Almost missed the mesmer hiding just inside the water gate and there was one Yak thief who was leading us on a wild goose chase around the outer walls. You were actually unlucky with your timing as you started attacking just as a commander joined the borderland with some reinforcements.

I’ve leveled and played all three classes and I can definitively say that I prefer my Engineer over my warrior or necro for PvE and WvW. Yes the warrior outputs the most damage but it just isn’t fun. You sit there pretty much doing a rotation and while seeing big numbers is mentally satisfying it got too repetitive and I eventually slowed down how much I played my warrior.
The necro is good in both PvE and WvW, the Epidemic skill is an extreme dps boost in dungeons, the mega survivability of a necro is also a plus. I only played condition build using scepter/dagger and staff and it was able to deal fairly strong condition damage but base direct damage was lacking.
However, my engineer can deliver both super strong dps through the unique access to every single condition in the game except torment and fear allowing for extreme condition damage builds to smash through dungeons. Every toolkit/weapon set on engi offers multiple sorts of attacks and abilities for helping your team or mob/player control. I used to play a PTV build on engi with an emphasis on group support, you have access to quite a few healing abilities and survive for a long time – I was the last man standing in dungeons many times. Recently started a condition build with ~1600 condition damage with P/P and it’s very effective at draining health.
So to summarise:
Warrior= High damage, repetitive-somewhat boring
Necro=strong condition damage and survivability, lacking in direct damage.
Engineer= super condition damage and survivability, funnest class to play.

What irritates me about flamethrower is that the actual flame skill #1 only applies 1.5 seconds of burning at the end of its skill. Even Hot Air applies 3 seconds and theres not even any flame in that skill. Flame Blast doesn’t give any burning at all. I know you can use the Incendiary Ammo tool belt skill but I don’t want to use a tool belt skill just to achieve what I thought I could do with a flamethrower

My view on engineer is that it is a class that likes to use things not as they were meant to be used (like real engineers) in the way of adding a variety of utility and special abilities and do not use a weapon as that weapon - if that makes sense. Example: pistols in the hands of an engineer become mini flame throwers (blowtorch) and immobilisers (glue shot), wrenches become effective melee weapons, grenades become superb condition appliers, etc.
If you give the engineer a rifle that can only be used as a rifle then they are not a true engineer, just another man with a gun. The utility and control that an Engineer brings to a fight and contained within all its weapon sets is what makes it such a great class. I feel A-net actually got the engineer class right in relation to abilities.

I’d like to see a utility kill that allows you to control the pet remotely for scouting ahead which would be great for WvW.

Currently I find every thief I’m fighting to get perma stealth through Black Powder>Leap finisher (normally HS). Fight pretty much goes Hide in Shadows>CnD>Shadow Refuge>Black powder+leap finisher. I think the amount of stealth abilities and length of stealth should not be available to full dps builds that don’t include Shadow Arts or Acrobatics which are the two survival trees, this means as a dps glass cannons thieves get the most survivability without having to trait for it at all.

Oddly enough I decided to level a ranger because a few of my guildies were complaining that it was broken. After playing for about a week now I can definitely say that I really enjoy playing my ranger, mostly longbow/shortbow and sword/warhorn, with a focus on dmg using knights gear using 20/30/20/0/0 traits. I almost exclusively play WvW and it is very good in zergs. I use knights gear to get around 2800-3000 armour which is helpful in roaming/solo fights.

The ranger class itself has lower DPS in terms of crit output/damage in relation to other classes. I would suggest that you switch some of your gear E.g your armour for knights as you would keep ur crit chance up with decent crit damage whilst gaining a chunk of tougness which will help ya survive longer :P
Yea I was starting to think the problem was my gear, I’ll try some other stats see how it goes.
Quick Load [LOAD]
So I recently leveled my ranger up to 80 and I really like using bow, more longbow than shortbow, and I decided to get zerker gear and build 30/30/5/5/0 to dish out some damage from far away. Problem is when people lock me down or I’m fighting multiple players and I have no chance of survival at all, I would retrait for more toughness/vitality but I feel I wouldn’t be able to output nearly as much damage (atm about 1-1.3k crits on short bow and 1.5-2.7k crits on longbow). I then went for the GM trait in marksmanship for signets also affect me so I can get 6 seconds invulnerability and stability which helped abit but I still feel I am severely lacking in survivability.
If anyone has any tips or builds I could test that would increase survivability without impacting too much on dps I would appreciate it.
