I think the nerfs were justified. It’s just that I see many other overpowered things that are never complained about.

Hopefully this helps balance a little but people can’t complain about celestial being super sustained, as that’s it’s purpose….on any class that utilizes it well, even engineer.

I tend to play a semi-cele ele with earth/water/arcane most of the time.

I still don’t have issues with them but all of my characters are played extremely tanky.

Maybe I’m also just going up against really badly played individuals

Ok so. I have an ele. I have a cheesy condi shatter Mesmer. I have a ranger and a thief and a necro. I pvp and wvw with all of them.

I have never once had an issue with D/D ele. They’re tough to kill but I’ve also gone up against warriors and guardians who I can’t even dent at all that can flatten me in seconds.

Yes icebow needed a little nerf.

Yeah burning will help with how punishing it previously was.

However, people keep crying over how OP they are….maybe you should learn how they play. They’re predictable. And perhaps a play style more complex than “I’m going zerk and rushing in and bursting their face”.

Rushing a class like that is like when a thief is unprepared for a Mesmer to survive their burst and suddenly gets shattered into dust.

Yes the nerf changes were necessary, but no it isn’t overpowered still, you all need to calm down and learn to play more than just pushing a button and mindlessly running around.

(Or maybe look at immortal warriors and even some ranger builds if you want to see overpowered).

[keep in mind if they nerfed Fire more you’ll just see more and more super-tank eles that never die ]

Didn’t read any of the needlessly long comments here.

Druids were krytans who went into maguuma and shed their mortal form.

They were not from any other lore. They aren’t real world. They aren’t WoW.

Shed mortal form? Spirits? Astral? Celestial.

Seems to make sense with me.

1.) Necro isn’t easy to be “good” at in WvW….I’ve never once died to a necro on any character because I’ve never encountered a good one.

2.) I agree with you on mesmers, their power creep was/is just too much and that’s coming from me as a previously mesmer main.

however, I don’t believe thieves are suddenly worse…I think it’s just that glass builds aren’t good enough, and good riddance to just glassy burst builds. I still see amazing thieves everywhere who can take down most classes except mesmer.

Mesmers are into the arts and stuff because of Lyssa, who was the patron goddess of Beauty and illusions, and arguably sparked the first mesmers. Also, historically mesmers are usually noble humans, so…. (the other races having mesmers because of mechanics, lore-wise it doesn’t really “fit” into their lore)

It’s been stated sylvari characters will have a different experience than other characters. that’s because guild wars 2 by design is very alt-friendly, as well.

The sylvari players will be missing out on certain aspects of the story because of the way the story will treat them, and as such other races will not experience exactly what the sylvari will.

if you think suddenly all the races should be able to hear the voice of a dragon who CREATED the sylvari, then you’re a fool.

It isn’t hard to dodge. Compared to other skills it isn’t tons of burn stacks

Anet, a serious question about Tempest

in Elementalist

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

I enjoyed tempest the last beta. although I found myself playing it with staff. (fire field+fire tornado= lots of burns)

I do like that they added pulsing bleeds to earth’s overtune and the stability as well. I don’t know how well it’ll synergize with other things.

the problem is…Ele was already in a good place. They didn’t want to suddenly add something that made it so much better nobody would ever NOT play it.

That was a fear that they probably had with some other specializations.

Thankfully I’ve noticed on the base specializations I was actually able to kill the elites fairly easily because they do have a “you get THIS. but you lose THIS”

the tempest doesn’t have that. It’s just like…oh here, have this extra stuff, pick which traitline you want to replace.

I think part of the problem with condi removals is that most of the skills remove 1 condition. or at most I’ve seen 3 conditions.

When someone can stack 6-8 conditions on you instantly, and begin stacking, and there’s no way to know if your cleanse will remove chill and cripple instead of the 18 bleeds you have on.

It’s frustrating, to be certain.

Why it makes sense for Druid to be last

Personally I just think that it’s last because well, one of them has to be first and one has to be last. :P

But it’s an interesting theory! I main a Guardian but Druid is definitely the one I’m looking forward to the most, I’ve always loved the archetype in various RPG’s.

Druid will probably be my only reason for looking into Ranger at all depending on what it’s like.

It would also be my only reason for looking into a Sylvari at all.

They aren’t Overpowered, They’re just well balanced. They’ve always been in a good spot.

They do have weaknesses. it just seems the general player base consists of I WILL PUSH ALL MY BUTTONS NOW.

or.

I will run away, come back. run away. come back.

Neither of which work really well against elementalists. I get ganked by the occasional thief, interrupt mesmers, certain warrior and guardians.

It’s more skill than the actual class itself.

Didn’t read any of this.

I know for a while (and it isn’t always the case) but in Tier 2 at least…and even Tier 3 (back when DB was ascending and before YB had bought a bunch of guilds to ascend)

There were servers who were….for lack of a better word, talentless…their members for whatever reason were terrible. absolutely terrible.
1v1? no…they couldn’t, there were just hordes of horrible players. But they did well whenever giant globs of them came along.

then there were servers with much lower populations, but that had much more high-skilled players.

This made roaming interesting.

however, with specializations/transfers/over time blah blah blah…that just isn’t the case anymore. Even servers with high skill level players aren’t roaming around, they’re forming groups…because It’s very hard to fight globs.

This is also because Tier 1 is the only tier until like 4 or 5 where the servers have similar populations.

Tier 2 is occupied currently by fort aspenwood (relatively low it seems) and SoS (also relatively low) compared to recent drop-downs from Tier 1 blackgate and Tarnished coast (who have many more people on at any given time.)

This is not taking into account prime-time or anything, just the average.

I used to roam on my mesmer

I no longer play my mesmer.
I just throw on a staff and run around on my ele.

Why it makes sense for Druid to be last

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

vanderwolf.7084

Ok so this could have easily gone into the lore section.

Or I could have posted this to my guild’s forums…but I’m just going to throw out my 2 cents on this.

Druid. Ranger’s elite specialization….
why is it last?

I don’t think it’s only because it was the first announced. I also think there’s a reason it’s getting announced at a Con and not just a PoI.

a few things.

1.) GW1…Druids were a group of krytans who followed melandru and ended up retreating into the Maguuma jungle to become one with the land.

2.) it is hinted very heavily that the player character Sylvari are somehow attached to the Druids

3.) We are going into the maguuma jungle for HoT….where the druids went.

4.) There was a cutscene in living world’s story that featured a golden crystal-like room that was then overgrown with vines. Most people assume this had something to do with modremoth vs. Glint.

I think that this hinted at the egg being brought to the druids for protection.

All of this combined are my reasons. From a lore standpoint, Druid is the profession next to the Revenant that is the most relevant to Heart of Thorns Story, that’s why I think it was last.

If you mean lore-wise?

Norn: Ranger, Warrior, Necromancer (Raven shamans)

Human: Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, Necromancer, Thief, Mesmer, Ranger(druid especially)

Sylvari: Ranger, Thief, Warrior.

Charr: Warrior, Engineer

Asura: Engineer, Elementalist

[my reasoning is mostly lore-based. Humans are obviously the widest ranged but I only really imagine them being the ones to use preservation magic or become mesmers for Lyssa]

Charr are generally distrusting of magic, and like boom boom.

I’m not sure about Norn and magic but the only NPCs I’ve noticed that use it are necromancers who follow Raven.

Asura are…asura.

Sylvari I honestly don’t even care about.

My theory on the history of the races.

in Lore

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

The Forgotten were servants of the gods – you could split hairs (or scales?) on whether this truly means that they were gods to the Forgotten, but it’s the simplest explanation.

There are pretty strong indications that the gods are or have been worshipped by other races as well (albeit not always by the same names…) – they’re mostly referred to as the human gods because humans are by far the most visible and numerous worshippers of them, including worshipping the whole (known) pantheon.

(Also, even the other playable races, with the possible exception of the sylvari, acknowledge the power of the gods. They’re still gods to the other races, the other races just don’t regard them as gods for them. It’s a fine distinction, but even a charr won’t argue that Balthazar, for instance, isn’t a god – however, that charr will refuse to bow down to Balthazar (beyond what they would be willing to do for any foreign dignitary) and would be quite happy to have a go at killing Balthazar if he or she felt she had a chance and it was in their Legion’s interest to do so.)

There are asuran NPCs and books in hidden arcana about it. When you question some Asura npcs they say something along the lines of “No I do not believe they were gods, just immensely powerful magical beings”.

The forgotten were servants to them yes, but they did not worship them…It was more of a respect based relationship than a following. They followed Glint far more than they followed the gods themselves.

I think the Norn are kind of indifferent and Charr at this point at least aren’t even 100% confident that those ‘gods’ even existed. (they’re skeptical about everything though)

Dragon Lore

in Lore

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

1) The elder dragons seem to not only be beings, but a force. They’re ancient and way more powerful than other dragons…but not much is known about them. It is speculated by certain characters that if Glint were to live long enough, she could have absorbed Kralkatorrik’s power, becoming an elder dragon via ascension ala Kormir absorbing abbadon’s power. (so…potentially elder dragons are to dragons as the Gods are to humans)

2) Dragons are unknown, numerous probably if you consider wyverns…there’s the salt spray dragons, other Canthan dragons….the dragon champions are usually smaller dragons. uhhh….I’m sure there’s other dragon-like creatures (we’ve also only seen Cantha, Elona, and Tyria…and nothing is known about the rest of the continents around the globe)

3) Elder dragons have different aspects. Zhaitan was Shadow and Death. Mordremoth is Mind and Nature. We aren’t 100% sure about the other dragons (although Kralk seems to be storm and crystal) they do not. however represent the areas in which they roam around.

4) All Except for Zhaitan

5) I think part of that isn’t just lore…It’s just that he was a huge point of the meta events and that he was Zhaitan’s big bad champion so he’s more well-known.

6) mostly just speculation. We honestly don’t know much about the dragons other than they are huge…and old…and strong. Zhaitan obviously got killed. Moredremoth is called the “most destructive so far” of the elder dragons by Ogden Stonehealer.

Necromancers

in Lore

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

Just to add on to what others are adding…

Necromancy DOES have limits to what is allowed and what is viewed as evil.

Raising a dead sentient being is taboo, it’s not ok, it is looked down upon, it is seen as WRONG. (Necromancers in Tyria do not reanimate corpses at this point.)

Example: Palawa Joko, while a lich…is evil because he kills people to add to his undead army.

Current necromancers make golem-like constructs, but they aren’t made out of dead humans, or dead charr, and they never had minds of their own.

I think Trahearne comments at some points about how his minions were never alive, so Zhaitan cannot claim them.

I think that’s the separation…Necromancy isn’t evil if the minions weren’t alive.

Blood magic, curses, etc…aren’t evil unless intended for evil, but I’m assuming a mesmer who makes people go crazy or an elementalist lighting people on fire would be considered respectively evil.

another example: Bria in ascalon kidnaps children to try to add them to her minion pool. She’s evil as well…so I think it’s more intent than just there.

although I’m sure people find necromancy and users of it creepy.

Culturally, Raven shamans use death magic.
Humans have grenth
At this point…Charr are generally distrusting of most magic-users, but they’d see it as useful.
Asura are curious about everything, and I think there’s a long gone asura (oola?) who believed that Necromancy was the key to perfecting golemancy

Charr -- Can't Get Over How Terrible

vanderwolf.7084

And just another little 2 cents on hunches in other races. Have you ever seen a fighter ? Boxing, mma, anything short of fancy fencing and dueling. Hunching slightly allows for better upper body mobility in human creatures, it allows the weight of your body to shift faster, with more precision, and with more weight behind it. That’s why in combat most of the races shift to a slight hunch, to create a lower center of gravity and because that’s a stronger “battle stance”

Tldr about halfway down the page.

Aesthetics aside and taking into consideration lore=\= game mechanics (in lore Norn are by far the most physically powerful race, Asura the smartest, charr distrust magic, Norn don’t seem to have a genuine concept of Mesmer magic)

OP seems to know nothing about gw1. The black citadel was created on top of the city of Rin, it is metal I believe because the iron legion is the one who primarily build it. It’s also more of a fortress than a proper city, as it is fully armed and even has a very large gun at its base.

In GW1 the charr standing upright was probably for sake of primitive animations along with distinguishing the shamans from the rest of the charr(the legions as they are now weren’t really a thing in gw1).

Also. The hunch, they have extremely powerful back muscles like most large cats might(lions) but that doesn’t mean their arms and legs are massive with muscle. That’s not how that animal body structure works.

I’m indifferent to their animations as I don’t play them. But if you’d like them to be more “realistic” or 100% match your perception of the lore….then player and npc charr shouldn’t be allowed to use any magic based classes, as the npc charr would most likely not trust them, especially elementalists.

I digress. I think the charr are fine. A little comical for my taste but they also wanted to humanize them so people wouldn’t hate them…you know, given up until gw2 they were evil.

WvW server health?

in WvW

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

long story short. I play on FA. We had an exodus ever since yaks bend used us like a dirty rag. Two of my guilds scattered across servers.

Tier 2 is…well. Pointless, it’s dead. So long as a tier 1 server has dropped down (Bg and now Tc.) they will overpower the other two to the point where I can barely clear a camp without a full welcome party stopping me on any borderland.

FA doesn’t even seem to have enough people for full Zerg play anymore either.

What is the other tier server health at this moment? I obviously can’t get into T1 because they’re full(odd because I know a few guilds shifted up to T1 somehow). And I’ve heard possibly T3 is increasing again?

Opinions? I haven’t even entered WvW because I feel alone and our entrance gates have been getting camped.

My theory on the history of the races.

in Lore

Posted by: vanderwolf.7084

vanderwolf.7084

The jotun were most likely never human looking, and have always looked that way. Also inbreeding is not what caused their fall, theory is that it’s when they gave their magic up, and never got it back. There’s a few intelligent npc Jotun who will talk about how they don’t know what befell their race and caused them to fall.

Dwarves are probably still alive fighting primprim, otherwise there would be destroyers everywhere.

The Norn according to some Kodan npcs descend from them and are just Kodan that have lost balance.

As for the god theories. There’s one problem. The human gods brought humans with them to Tyria, they aren’t gods to any other race, just really powerful magical beings. I also doubt if they fully knew 100% about the dragons. Or if they went into hiding for it.

But the exodus also happened before EOTN.
I don’t think the races are really meant to replace each other either, because we have hints that the mursaat are still around, possibly the forgotten are still alive somewhere, and then there’s the Tengu who are evaluating the worth of the other races.

Necromancers are better now with the new blood traitlines and reduced well cooldowns, they can do some pretty high AoE spike damage, group stability inside wells, protection, vampiric aura…blood is power provides a little bit of might, they can suck in conditions off of allies pretty easily, trait their shroud 4 to revive people which is nice. I’ve seen necros now get people out of some sticky situations…so it’s looking better than it was before.

Most classes can spread might pretty easily though so they shouldn’t rely on just one class to do so, They also have pretty good access to vuln.

also lots of dark fields, which will cause people to lifesteal, which will deal more damage, in turn.

Depends. I main a mesmer and I don’t view chronomancer as an out right upgrade.

Yes it has certain things that it definitely boosts, but it will also need to sacrifice a traitline.

such as…for condi mesmer, I could keep illusions and chaos so that I’m able to keep my conditions up…but then I’d need to drop dueling which has bleed on crits, blind on shatter(more condi with ineptitude) and clones on dodging.

yeah chronomancer generates clones very easily so maybe that’s not so bad but still….at least during beta weekend in pvp my Non-chronomancer still dominated against the chronomancers I faced.

Every elite so far seems to have some sort of “Condition, tanky, flat dps” type of spec because the way HoT content is PLANNED, just having a group of zerker people might not be enough for some content(apparently)

Also….Guild wars druid =/= other game druids.

- I would say the shadow of the dragon has nothing to do with zhaitan, but is instead mordremoth’s corruption trying to push into the dream even before his full awakening (some sylvari ala scarlet were already starting to be partially corrupted), and the pale tree herself had told her children about mordremoth as well.

Caithe’s wyld hunt was to destroy zhaitan. but who’s to say that the shadow of the dragon in the dream wasn’t a hint that the PC’s sylvari wyld hunt was to overthrow mordremoth?

I like to think that was an entire foreshadowing for the sylvari…in fact each of the dragons, sans Deep sea dragon seem to have a larger pull to each of the races.

Norn to Jormag
Asura to primordus
Charr to kralk,
sylvari to mord.

that’s just my view, anyways.

I don’t think berserker skills were meant to be taken as magic. They even said in the livestream they didn’t want the skills to appear as if the warrior was utilizing magic, because it isn’t a magic class. The only magic, canonically that warriors in GW2 have access to seems to be signets, really.

although yes people do point out W/E was a thing in GW1 (although the way professions work nobody double dips anymore) and it could also be a more “primal energy”

I didn’t take it literally though, I think they just did it that way to have nifty animations for the non-lore players.
