Fortunately I managed to find a few people who do like to do 1 vs 1 and are actually good. So I guess it’s not all of DB. some of you actually do like challenging fights and don’t want to just run mindlessly with the zerg and spam 1 against small groups of people.

By the way, whoever that engineer was from DB from the guild TG that I fought with my warrior was freaking amazing. One of the best engineers I’ve ever faced. Long freaking fight, but fun.

Putting an PvE achiev in a PvP place, this is wrong and dumb.

they obviously intended it to be a achievement that requires pvp!!!!

So? It’s still a bad idea that promotes griefing and creates strife within player community. The only thing the fact that “it was intended” tells us is that someone at Anet messed up badly in the design stage.

pvp is not the same as griefing. the fact that you are invulnerable on the spawn platform prevents any sort of spawn camping.

if there are people sitting below waiting for you to drop, you can either be good, and kill them, or use your skills to escape, then out run them through the puzzle. notice that in both cases, it requires skills and effort. apparently something entitled gamers lack.

or if you are bad, or dont want to pvp, you can leave and come back later.

your problem with this build is the lack of clone generation. aoe diversion is really good for the purposes you’re describing, but you’re never going to be able to play it to its intended use.

I’m just waiting for excuses. Despite having the highest numbers during NA prime time, Mags are behind on the reset night. It must suck to have all low-skill guilds stacked on the same server.

We queued one map tonight and had three or four commanders total on hand.
We lost everything in EB so PYRO left DBBL and went to EB and took it all back and then we moved to MAG and lost everything. Yuuup.

A better guild (like ME) would have divided those numbers are have tried to hold a few key keeps. It’s not hard, given your proficiency at siege.

To those of you saying that I just want things handed to me because I am lazy and didn’t put in the work for the achievement don’t understand what happened. I finished the JP… I made it to the top. I am within feet of the kite. I put in the work but was denied my reward. How would you all feel if you worked for a week and then the company sent out the paycheck to the wrong address and refused to pay you?

what dont you understand about this being optional? you’re making the choice of going into a pvp zone to get a pvp achievement.

if you almost made it to the kite then got killed just before, then you didn’t make it to the kite. a suitable analogy would be if you wanted to solo a dungeon boss, but the boss killed you when it had 1% health. who do you blame? the developers? no, you blame yourself for screwing up and not dodging correctly. no one is forcing you to do something you dont want to do. no one is forcing you to solo a dungeon boss.

No you can’t. They can throw all their aoe downwards, and you’ll have to run into it all before you can reach an angle where you can target them at all. The problem is that you can’t see them, but they can see you. You also have to platform up all these winding stairs while being hit by aoe, and while zergs charge down the stairs occasionally, before you can even get in range to hit them.

It is hard enough to make all the jumps while being hit and being on fire, and getting feared. How do you fight back as well, while the enemy has the high ground? There is literally no way you’ll get up that well if there is a mob there dedicated to keep you down there.

There needs to be an alternative way to attack these folks.

just because you don’t know how to attack them doesn’t mean they can’t be attacked.

it’s quite simple to break through people camping the dome.

He was speaking about the well not the dome, that is a bit different.

get the 5 min stealth right before the well….

Not true. Just because you need to play against other players does not mean you need to act harshly towards them. That is a common fault among many PvP players. That is the biggest reason I dislike PvP and do little WvW. It’s the community that makes me avoid it. I prefer speaking with and interacting with those that know how to be polite and who know what is and is not appropriate.

by acting harshly, you mean killing them? what do you interpret as acting harsh? you’re not supposed to be able to communicate with enemies in any way, they can’t trash talk, the worst and only thing they can do is to kill you.

do you even know what you’re saying? killing other people is put in this game by design.

you’re not entitled to get all the achievements. classic gamer entitlement. if you want the achievement in the puzzle, you either learn how to pvp, get friends to carry you through it. or leave and come back later when its empty.

just because someone hates pvp/wvw doesn’t mean they should be allowed to get a pvp/wvw achievement for free.

if you loathe pvp so much, then you just have to live with the fact that you will never get this particular achievement.

You realize that I have it and have helped many others get it, right? Like I’ve only stated many times in this thread already.

And I don’t hate PvP and WvW. Just its incredibly hostile community.

i wasn’t singling you out or anything, i was speaking in general to all those that feel they shouldn’t have to pvp to get some arbitrary achievement in a pvp zone.

plus it’s a hostile community because it’s based on your characters killing other characters. pvp is competitive by nature, its a competitive environment, it wouldn’t be fun without hostility.

I like to think that that statement was said independently by one of the WvW guys and not the Living Story team.

But if they do it a third time then I’ll be forced to agree that the don’t know what they’re doing.

They know perfectly well what they are doing. They have that map, completely unique in itself since it’s a pure PvP roaming map at the core, they need to put rewards inside to attract people and make use of it but not something too rewarding so that you don’t really need it.

So they put something desirable but optional in it, say, and achievement. And it works, there’s life in the map at last and it’s some fun PvP and it’s still optional.

And there’s still some QQ but they know it’d happen. See, their desires are at odds with the OCD PvP haters in there. No matter what desirable thing they put inside, some OCD PvP hater will want it and will QQ. The only solution for that QQ problem is to not put anything of value inside at all, ie abandoning the map and the concept. They might as well close the place in fact.

Here’s the problem. The people that are drawn in there with the rewards they are offering are, for the most part, the kind of player that does not care for PvP.

That causes a bunch of people to join in the map for the achievement. Unfortunately, they don’t have the WvW/PvP experience or builds. So most of them are just fodder for the experienced WvWers. Most good WvW players realize this and let them past. The other ones take advantage of the situation for ‘free kills’ and basically make those players lose any future interest in touching WvW again.

If the intent is to get more people interested, it has failed. If the intent is to provide ‘free badges’ to WvW players, then I’ve lost all respect for a company which I have championed since GW1 was in beta.

And don’t confuse the completionists with ‘PvP haters’. Some are both, yes. Some just don’t care for PvP. That isn’t hate. It’s just aversion.

Also, not all complaining is QQing. And to state that it is is just plain insulting.

FA stacking to wipe Mag pubs in the JP. I don’t know which is funnier, the fact that they’re stacking or the fact it’s working.

Jumping puzzle this week is kittening epic:
FA stacking. Then, one Kain dude camping like 10 FA.
Our mag scrubs are crying about the puzzle / campers / or not being nice to fa and kain.
Someone asked me how necro can be stealth for 5 min, I said “hax” and probably got reported.

Please, camp the puzzle more – whether server you’re from. It’s easy pve people bags and sweet, sweet tears of your own scrubs.

that guys on kain btw. mag may be a terrible server, but the one thing i’ve not seen on the forums from mag, is crying about jp camping.

On GvG I really can’t wait until it becomes more GvG instead of ZvZ. I mean yest there is a little skill in GvG now but when teams are 8-15 as opposed to 20-30 individual skills shine and tactics become huge.

I actually prefer the larger scale, anything under 10v10 and staff becomes near worthless. Staff Ele just doesn’t do well in small group combat or 1v1.

If you want small skirmish stuff of 5v5 and 8v8, that’s what sPvP/tPvP are for.

Heh, no. 5v5’s happen all the time in WvW and saying they’re only for sPvP/tPvP is being ignorant and ignoring a huge part of the game when it comes to skill. The smaller the amount of players the more you notice if someone is messing up. With a 20v20 fight, 18 people could probably do all the work and still win with 2 people being complete noobs.

5v5 gvg in a wvw setting is going to have similar problems with lineup balancing that sPvP and tPvP do.

In 10+ or larger scale fights, classes or setups that are pretty much useless in small scale fights become valuable. Staff Necros and Eles, Warriors, etc.

In a smaller scale fight, those builds are at best mediocre, and more likely to be pretty much worthless.

So no, simply lowering the number of fighters doesn’t just show more emphasis on individual player skill, it also completely changes the metagame for builds.

it definitely does show more individual skill, i dont see how anyone can argue this. it almost has to be true by definition.

the fact that different classes and builds become more and less effective as the fights get smaller doesn’t have any correlation to the amount of skill required. i dont even know why you brought it up.

its fine that you prefer larger organized fights, but it’s crazy to suggest that individual skill doesn’t play a bigger role in smaller fights.

increasing armor does NOT have diminishing returns.

what you are seeing in the graphs are relative decreases in percent mitigation between every 100 armor.

notice that the armor scale is linear, and the % mitigation is not.

a better way to see this point is that going from 0% to 20% damage mitigation is a 20% increase, going from 80% to 100% is also a 20% increase, however the effect of going from 80-100% is dramatically different.

the higher your % mitigation is, the more you’re getting out of it. percentages can not be compared to linear gains in armor and conclude that you get diminishing returns.

It isn’t that, or at least JUST that, it’s that a commander is guiding movement for the whole zerg, who would the zerg follow if they were a backline? It’s also important for a commander to have eyes on the front line to see and plot the course of the fight.

Even in PVE raiding, 9/10 the raid leader is a melee, usually the tank. I’ve tried leading raids as ranged dps or healers before, doesn’t work as well. Different perspective.

who would they follow? lol just dont be bad, then its easy.

its no secret that it’s what dorp does. as a frontline for them, i basically just do what i want. no one touches me even if i go balls deep into CERN/EP’s backline. so i’m free to stun everyone constantly and never go down.

point is, you dont need a hammer train to win.

also helps being the saddest priest in all of tyria.

In terms of GvG’s. If you look at the top GvG outfits (mostly european) there is one thing that stands out. Obviously they master split-second decision making, good movement and solid build and composition chemistry but that is just one part of the puzzle.

I think what separates the good GvG guilds from the best is the skill of their ranged players. Guilds like RG and VOTF have exceptional ranged elementalists, mesmers etc. The reason I say this is because the frontline which also requires skill has the benefit of being fed most of their instructions by the commander as he/she is also part of the frontline. They do have to take initiative themselves in the sense of dodging correctly and utilizing what is required of them whether that is CC, book heals or wells.

However, ranged players to a large extent have to think for themselves in the GvG environment. The commander will occasionally feed them instructions on dropping their veils, null fields, meteor showers etc but the majority of them have to move away from the icon be able to survive, burst down individual threats as well as be able to get back on the icon for the water fields or to share boons etc.

Therefore if you are a guild interested in mastering the GvG game mode you need to work on your ranged classes and compositions; as a commander you want to start figuring out ways to instruct those classes. Also as players they have to be of the level of the commander itself in predicting and reading the enemy movements as only then can they successfully operate on the peripherals but still be able to drop the necessary null-field or meteor shower on the enemy stacks.

They also have to build a separate layer of party chemistry and composition among the ranged classes as well where they can then begin mastering the art of focus fire based on ground targeting rather than using ctrl+t which is on the commander. This might mean coming up with a new set of terminology among the ranged that allows them to successfully target areas for maximum DPS.

Lastly communicate what YOU are doing as a ranged class, dont be a mute. Call out when you drop a null field, call out when you cc them or strip their stability, call out when you drop a timewarp, call out when you are rezzing or finishing etc. Its important to feed the commander and the frontline what you are doing more so than what the enemy is doing as this then allows your commander and frontline to make better decisions.

or just have whoevers calling the shots play a ranged backline role. that way they can micro manage the squishies.

the frontline has much less to worry about due to their inherent tankiness.

I like how everyone complains it’s numbers when TC is beating them. Last night on EB at the end when SoS was attacking Stonemist their zerg was easily twice our size but we managed to hold them off for quite a while.

Ugghh, for the thousandth time, (and this is getting old since we’ve been at this for a month straight now!) it’s a matter of WvW focused numbers.

It’s not unusual for us to put competitive numbers into EB or our BL; but 70% or more of our numbers are people who are: A. not running in an organized guild; B. do not WvW regularly, C. not on any kind of VoiP with others, and D. not specc’d for WvW (all zerker, all the time).

We complain about your large zergs of +50 not because we don’t have that many on the map; but because we can’t get people to group up more than 30 on a GREAT night.

I also need to reiterate, that SoS has NO WvW focused guilds. We have zero guilds that focus solely on WvW.

We do as well as we do because our PvX guilds are always willing to help our server. Every PPT is gained through the fact that we don’t roll over for anybody.

you lose the boon stripping abilities, but gain an extra trait in dueling to use.

congratulations you completely missed the point

it’s quite simple really: tPvP is meant to be a competitive, fair (by the nature of tournaments) environment in which to display you and your teams’ skills . best-of series are also meant to foster such a competitive, fair environment. they occur absolutely everywhere in competitions. is this really something that needs to be debated?

The best kind of PvPer is the kind who can respond to any given situation, not one who requires the training wheels to learn their opponents movements BEFORE they know how the respond.

Sounds like a lot of excuses, is this really something that needs to be debated?

are you saying tpvp would be more fair if it was a sudden death round? you go down once and you’re out.

every single competitive game are either timed, or involve multiple rounds. that way, no one wins or loses by luck or fluke.

It’s true! I lost 1v1 to a bad thief who felt threatened enough to build bloodlust stacks to fight a mediocre staff ele that never roams or duels, who was using S/D for the second day. Bravo!
