I see this idea pretty often, and it’s just not a good idea. I think the reason at least half the players play this game is because the spirit of it is cooperative. I help you, you help me and we both win. Removing that would completely gut what those people like about it. As far as I’m aware, there are plenty of existing games where you can just gank people whenever you like.

It has been particularly bad this morning. I kept playing matches hoping that I’d finally be able to end my play time with a win. Nope! Three hours of nothing but losses. I know I suck, but I have at least been able to eke out wins about half the time before. Is there anything that actually adjusts the level of the teams you’re playing against or is it just stuck there until it resets after some amount of time?

The PAX-announcement will be the biggest in GW2 history. Wouldn’t hire biggest theatre and cba to get game lead there for nothing.

Gameplay programmers doesn’t post curiosity like that very often, it is usually done by the communication staff. And why would he out of all devs post here, if he wasn’t involved in and closely kept watch of the topic? That involvement is probably “programmer of race and class gameplay” btw.

You just reminded me of the promise we got from Chris Whiteside that they would introduce catapults that would shoot Asurans into enemy keeps in WvW, any progress on that?

Yes, I want to just throw them into walls, myself. But these would work all the same anyway.

And remember, it was a promise and totally not a snarky sarcastic comment with a wink after it.

Engis hate the backpack kits as much as any other class does (probably more) because they hide any custom back piece that is equipped. An icon indicator would be much better.

Charrbeque, you’re right. There are a few irritating glitches in the Word and Name Filter. I use a certain word all the time, but I’ve had to mentally remind myself to use “analyze” instead of a s ess (intentionally misspelled and spaced) because the latter is kittenized.

I’ll see what we can do about this, and I heard there was some progress made on updating the filter.

At the end of the day, the problem is the same as some other issues here and an issue that you have stated bugs you personally, the forums really need a change/upgrade.

Yeah, in the interest of being on topic, what the first few second season living story chapters truly excelled at was driving a straight narrative, and a lot of that involved regular group meetups to talk about what we learned. You know what would have been awesome to have at the end of this last chapter would have been if we accompanied Marjory to the Priory and we went back to the library to do a little more investigating and found a book that had those symbols and spelled out clearly what they were. Even if there were only like 3-4 new books there to discover, it would have been a callback and a way to sort of wrap up the chapter instead of ending it.

Maybe I’ve just binge-watched Buffy on Netflix too much lately, but they do a really good job at the “big bad” long term stories, and it always involves exposition that comes from library and throwing around ideas in a big group after the action ends.

Here is my feedback on this as positively as I can put it. Every time there is a hiatus like this, I lose interest in the game. And so I want to know what you are offering to entice me back. And I get a date, a vague phrase like “it’s gonna be big”, and then silence. That’s not enough to make up for my lost interest and it makes me feel like you have no interest in trying to win me over. Maybe you don’t.

One more, the reason for the outrage is that you keep treating simple questions as outrageous and unreasonable. So people think you don’t hear them and they get angrier. If you stopped this ridiculous game, there would be lost of happiness over the holidays instead of cynicism and a billion “I quit” posts.

Xiem — Have you had a chance to read the blog post? It’s here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/season-2-returns-on-january-13/

Jaken — I understand your thoughts. I admit I feel the same way with a favorite TV show, where you expect the next episode the following week and learn something else is stepping into the space for a while. Oh heck, I feel the same way at the end of each season, too. Darn that Game of Thrones!

Gaile, the difference is that I know how many episodes are in each season of Game of Thrones ahead of time and we don’t have months in between the episodes. As a fan of the show, what would your thoughts be if they decided to delay the finale a month so HBO could ruin a miniseries for a month. You can’t do anything about the latter, but can you at least answer the first question? I feel like asking this is reasonable and I’m getting really irritated that it is being treated otherwise.

Give us a reason to want to play. Give us something to be excited about for the future. We don’t want to leave, but the longer we stay, the more foolish and hopeless we feel.

We hear that there are amazing things in development, let us share that excitement! Because, really, for many of us, that excitement would go a long way. It’d give us something to look forward to, because considering where we’ve been, the road ahead looks rather bleak.

This. I would argue even including the people that are purely satisfied with living story, because it’s now been established that is no longer going to be something we can rely on to be updated every two weeks.

I personally find all these threads asking for more information highly amusing, it’s like you’re trying to get blood from a turnip, it’s not going to happen.

No, it IS going to happen. At some point, they will realize that people just aren’t coming back anymore as much as they did when they post teaser trailers exactly one week ahead of time after 2 months of nothing. They’ll realize that everyone is treating their feature pack with “meh” because it is largely packed with stuff people didn’t want and leaves out things people really did want. And at that point, they’ll realize that refusing to indulge people’s sense of hype doesn’t create an air of mystery, it just makes people lose that hype.

The reason I keep posting about this is because I recognize this truth and really want change to happen sooner rather than later. Because they have to change this policy while people are still clamoring for it. When people stop, then it’s already too late, you’ll never get that hype back. And if there is a prolonged period of no new content and no announced content like there was a few months ago after January…. well, speaking only for myself, I am not sure if I can make it through the downtime again. Because it wasn’t fun.

Notice a trend? They think keeping us in suspense is a good thing. You have to convince them it’s not. They want us to speculate about what’s coming in the future. That is apparently their end game. There is both positive and negative speculation going on here. Not just negative. You have to yell a whole lot louder to get through.

It’s so frustrating! I’ve come to the conclusion that they must just be repeating a line they’ve been told is the best possible spin they can put on this, because otherwise it just means they’ve completely not seen anything that anyone has been saying.

I’ve never in my life seen anyone say here, “You know what? I don’t want to know what is going to be on the way next year”. Except when followed up by “…because I’m not going to be here for it”. Everyone is frustrated, and nobody thinks it’s “fun” to sit and wait for info because they want to mete it out slowly.

And as for another break? I made it through this last few months because I wanted to make sure I didn’t drop out before Mad Kings Day again like I did the year before (which happened because of GTA V and me breaking my hand). If there’s another two month long WvW tournament with nothing else to do and nothing else being promised except “stay tuned for a screenshot”? I genuinely don’t know if I can stick that through, I’d probably just tune out for awhile and find something else to do with my time.

Simply replying to a thread doesn’t mean you’re communicating with the community when all of your answers seem like they’re automated messages.

I have to agree with this statement. I think the “We won’t talk about it until it’s ready” policy is going to be Anet’s downfall. I’m not saying release an expansion pack tomorrow, but at least let us know you are working on something. I bought the game, I supported the game buying gems, but where is my money going? I want to look forward to something besides 1.5 hours of content every 2 weeks. You don’t have enough money? I’ll gladly give you guys more money, but just tell us what’s coming for GW2.

I legit hate being a broken record on this, but it needs to be reiterated that this is the truth. Know what? Forget next year, I am barely excited for Tuesday. I know intellectually there will probably be cool stuff, but when I think about the new patch and the last preview, I"m just like, “eh.”

THAT’S NOT WHAT SHOULD BE HAPPENING. The entire reason that it’s like that is because I just have no clue what’s going to be on the way. And remembering now, the only reason it was any different for the last patch was that China accidentally put out a preview with actual information that was then disavowed and treated like a shameful, horrifying spoiler. That we might actually know what we should be looking forward to. Heaven forfend.

I’ve read Mike O’Brien’s post about the communication policy multiple times. I question whether he’s actually read our posts about why that policy makes us less enthusiastic about the game. Maybe I missed the post where he said that less enthusiastic players is a totally acceptable side effect.

Gaile was not asking whether the promise of more LW is sufficient to sate our desires for intel, just whether it counts.

Yes, this is correct. When I see comments like “there’s nothing new to do” or “we need fresh content” it just occurred to me to ask if you’re taking LW into account, if you see that as new content and pretty significant chunks of it, at that. (Admittedly, it may not be what you personally have requested, but if the statement is “there’s nothing new” that doesn’t seem quite right.)

Thanks everyone for not barking at me when I asked the question. Again, the question was not “is it enough?” I really was pointing to it to ask for your impressions of the concept and the execution as continuing, new content in an ever-changing world.

I will speak only for myself here, because everyone wants something different from the game and from you. :-) Speaking to your first post here, I think providing information about the nuts and bolts is not only the most important thing to provide way ahead of time, it is the ONLY important thing to provide way ahead of time. Hearing a list of new features that are being discussed to implement is what makes me excited, even not knowing any specifics to it.

Silverwastes is one of the coolest concepts the game has ever done, and it shocks me how little hype was given for it. Guildmates that took time off for awhile and came back had heard nothing about it. They knew all about the overall plan to fight Mordremoth, had even heard about Glint’s lair, but they had no clue that there was this amazing new map to go along with it. It baffles me that Arenanet doesn’t seed this sort of information ahead of time.

I think what someone before said about Living Story hits the nail on the head. Having Season One as temporarily available content was a colossal misstep that was great fun and a fantastic concept, but probably damaged the game from a long-term perspective. The last six months have been a great course corrective, but the fact that the updates can’t be left in open world means that it feels like nothing is happening in long periods between updates. If we had heard that a Silverwastes style map was coming back in September, then all the whining about nothing happening would probably have been reduced. Moreso if we’d heard bits and pieces about what is on the schedule for longer.

As for whether it’s enough, I think that if what we got permanently over the last 5 months (2 maps with unique mechanics and replayable story chapters with achievements) were expanded to the previous 20 or so in terms of permanent content, nobody would be arguing there wasn’t enough new PvE content. The problem there lies almost exclusively in terms of having the content only be available for two weeks. My word, if the temporary dungeons and dungeon style content had stayed open and provided their own daily reward for completion, dungeoneers would be over the moon.

Yet in all this talk no mention of exchange rate …the strengthening of the won has weakened profits when returned to korea for all korean companies .If they report a 6 per cent fall in income from a mainly english game it would mean that sales are actually increasing in numbers as the won variation is about 13 percent .
The opposite of this was Toyotas 27 percent increase in income with no extra sales due to the weakening of the yen .

This is a really good observation that needs to be highlighted. The worrisome number here is not QoQ, but the 20% drop YoY. And that drop is definitely attributable in part to exchange rate changes. When you look at that specific period compared, it’s a huge, huge difference. Would also explain at least in part why the two primarily Korean games didn’t have much change at all and actually made serious gains.

Also worth remembering that this was a time during which Guild Wars 2 was on sale for an extended period of time. The idea being to get less short-term revenue in the hopes of building the player base and future gem sales. And really, to build player base for an upcoming expansion.

All of this is complete speculation and for all we know, there was actually some degree of panic at Arenanet that went well beyond the Great Player Revolt of September 2014. Maybe these numbers are a huge worry and surprising. But I don’t see any loss of confidence, and I’m betting the reason is that there IS, in fact, an expansion coming sooner rather than later. There are so many signs pointing towards one, and I haven’t seen anything at all that contradicts this theory.

Hey John, it seemed almost as if the huge influx of t5/t6 bones during the labyrinth were secretly designed to try and provide a floor for elder wood, knowing that a lot of people would use the opportunity to craft rare weapons. I don’t know whether this was actually the case or not, but in general, when you manage to sneak in some sort of hidden mechanism to shape the economy without the players really realizing, does it make you feel like a god?
