How challenging is Guild Wars 2 for you?

There’s a simple solution that can prevent players from stacking, which I should probably start doing asap, because I don’t want to play with people who stack, so in future I’ll be sure to create parties with this in mind.

FTFY.

Also, I think this is the thread for you.

The thing that I won’t do it will not change the fact, that (let’s call it by name) players are cheating. It doesn’t work as intended, it’s not how the game was designed to play, it kills role diversity, it favors only few classes that can push the wall, it favors only zerker, because you won’t get much damage during kitten fight. I can go on like this, but the point is that cheaters will earn 5x more gold than I do playing without cheats.

I don’t consider it a cheat. The combo field range, for example, suggests that players are meant to use melee attacks and stay close to each other.

The terms ‘not being played as intended’ and ‘way the game was designed’ keep getting thrown around in these threads, but dungeon design heavily favours high DPS parties. Spec for anything else and you really just end up wasting time.

There’s no trinity here so role diversity is extremely limited. Pretty much just DPS with a side of either support or control abilities. Tanking, holding aggro… these things do not exist in GW2.

Also, you want to talk about using exploitative tactics to earn gold, take it up with the TP players. The dungeon runners barely make in a week what they spend on listing fees every hour, lol.

Have you seen the videos that I have posted before? If not, watch them and tell it to developers looking in their eyes, that killing boss in 5 seconds is not cheating. Then we can talk…

There’s a simple solution that can prevent players from stacking, which imo should be done by devs asap, because currently stacking players are ruining fun for players, that don’t want to play like this.

To start, let’s make a summary, why the hell are people stacking?

Reason 1: When players are close, it’s easy to buff party, cleanse conditions and heal.

Solution: While this is generally a positive thing, a new way to play, unlike in other MMORPG, maybe increasing slightly distance of buffs would help a bit, but it’s not really neccessary.

Reason 2: Monsters don’t use ranged attacks on close targets.

Solution 1: Make them able to use ranged attacks on closer targets.
Solution 2: Make their melee attacks stronger and add cleave.

Reason 3: Some skills can be abused to deal much more damage while “pushing the wall”.

Solution: Change these skills (Burning Speed, Tidal Wave, Burning Retreat, Fiery Whirl, Fiery Rush, Whirlwind Attack, Charge etc.) so they will be interrupted when you hit the wall. Change “storm” skills, that you can’t cast in on the wall to force all projectiles hit the single spot (maybe amount of projectiles depends on the radius of possible area, so if you cast it on the wall, only few projectiles will drop).

Only removing advantages of stacking in the corner can cure the game.

PS. I’m waiting for speedrunning crybabies to start flame in this topic, that these exploits should be allowed…

PS2. If you don’t know what I’m talking about with exploiting corners to deal tons of damage, look at this:

Just 2 monk runes gives +25 healing and +15% boon duration, so if you add 2 water runes, it gives +50 healing and +30% boon duration for just 4 runes. You still have 2 slots.

Season 2 LS should have replayablity

I mean, Fractals is about going back in time. Why can’t I do it for past LS?

LS can be added to Fractals, or a time machine dungeon/gooba gaba gaga or whatever. I want it to be Fractals so it can be simple, instead of 800 types of instanced game modes.

For season 2 of LS, I expect it to be replayable in some way, instanced is something I prefer.

Fractals is not going back in time. Fractals is not a time machine.

It is about going back in time (wel, partially). In fractals you are experiencing events, that happened in the past, but you can’t change it to have any impact on the present. It’s like watching the history movie, where you are playing the main character.

Well, it’s not that hard. It would be possible to do it the same way as the personal story is made. It could be even extended personal story, so once you defeat Zaithan, a new danger appears and you do everything to stop Scarlet, going from point A to B in the world and entering instances.
This way, new players would be able to experience the story.

Points gained in EotM do not count toward the WvW server ranking.

Its only effect on the actual WvW servers is at the end of each ‘match’ – a ‘supply drop’ occurs on all the winning ‘color’ server’s home borderland (so if Green won, the Green server in every tier gets the supply drop).

like I care if my server will be better or worse in the game mode that I don’t like…

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

yayuuu.9420

I’m not 100% sure that Ellen Kiel is working for Scarlet, but it’s one possibility.

Ellen Kiel might be a liar and she didn’t informed council at all, selling us a cheap story that the council is not going to prepare city for the attack even if they:
1. Know what Scarlet can do and that she is dangerous,
2. Her probe turged green,
3. Marjory predicted Scarlet’s next step as an attack on Lions Arch.

We have 2 possibilities:
1. Ellen Kiel is nice and good and the Council is stupid and arrogant.
2. Ellen Kiel is Scarlet’s puppet

Until now, all of the Scarlet’s plans have succeeded (except putting a puppet in the council??) even if we thiught, that we have stopped her.

I’ll try to get more evidence when I come back home. Until now I have to leave you with my suggestion to think about. It would be nice if someone could find that “core sample” we gave to Ellen, if it really exists somewhere then my theory is 100% wrong.

Fascinating. But according to the schematics, the reactor core is nearby. We need to access the console and take a sample.
/Ellen Kiel/

She just wants to retrieve a core sample, nothing is mentioned for what she needs it.

I think that few sentences from the LW instance need to be mentioned here:

- Lion’s Arch needs softening up first, so we infiltrate its halls of power and neuter its defenses from the inside
/Scarlet’s Hologram/

- With Trin in place on the council, she could have weakened the city’s defenses from the inside. That plan backfired, but Trin escaped to the Mists to prepare for something.
/Marjory Delaqua/

So Scarlet wanted to weaken defenses of the Lions Arch by putting some puppet in the council. Everyone thinks that Mai Trin was going to be that puppet. She was arrested, yet she escaped (important prisoner closed in the cage with easy access to it? whose decision was that?). What if Mai Trin was a scapegoat, to put Ellen Kiel on the seat?

- Now she has an kitten nal of advanced weapons and an air fleet to deliver them. No city is prepared to defend against an aerial attack. Not even Lion’s Arch.
/Kasmeer Meade/

- Kiel’s been pushing to build up the air defenses around Lion’s Arch, but the rest of the Captain’s Council won’t get on board. They say Scarlet isn’t their problem – that she wouldn’t strike the Arch again so soon after Dragon Bash, or that they’ve already withstood one of her attacks and don’t need additional resources to withstand another.
/Marjory Delaqua/

So Lion’s Arch is not prepared, even if they know about Scarlet’s plans of attacking the city. Ellen Kiel is not taking any actions even after telling her, that the probe under LA have turned green. Also Marjory sends a player letter after completing instance, that Lion’s Arch is not preparing for the defense (Ellen Kiel tells her, that it’s the whole council’s decision, not her, but did she talked with the council about it?).

If you are talking about world bosses then condition damage is as usefull against them as critical damage. Both are really irrational.

Now now, don’t go hating on crit damage… someone has to clear the Champion Hulks and Larva that spawns too you know~

I’m not hating crit dmg nor condition dmg. It would be just more logical if both worked against bosses.

That would be OP, I would run with Ice Bow all the time and just spam with storms (as I do now, conjure FB, 3, 4, throw). Well, I like it, but I think that better solution would be to just lower the cooldown or add some traits that lowers their cooldown. Implementing your idea would require nerfing them hard (well, I would still like it as long as it would be viable).

I was also thinking about making these weapons also affected by attunements, for example:
Ice bow on Water attunement have different skills than Ice Bow on Fire Attunement. You can also swap attunements when the weapon is summoned, to use different skill, but again, that would be so much skills we can use, probably even too much.

Kit mechanics on the other hand would be really nice to be able to make builds around these weapons, but that would make them less supportive. Summoning Ice Bow for a friend can be really nice in some situations. I don’t like Conjures to be selfish.

So why do people still fail marionette?

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: yayuuu.9420

yayuuu.9420

I can give you few hints (as an elementalist).
Champ 1:
- It is possible to attack him with “storms” even if you are in front of him. Ech meteor or ice shard that hits from behind will deal damage.

Champ 2:
- Equip Mist Form before you enter the platform. If you are sylvari, you can also equip Take Root. If you draw aggro of the champion, use one of these skills and stand still. The champion will stop on you and place a mine under him that will stun him instantly. When the timer on his stun is running out, you can push him on another mine before he start spinning (using Air 3 on staff for example).

Champ 3: You don’t really have to dodge too much, his bombs explode after a delay, so you can just run away. You can also equip Mist Form or Arcane Shield (or both) if you don’t feel comfortable. Meteor Shower and Ice Bow are very powerfull tools.

Champ 4: Equip Ether Renewal. Stay close to the regulator, there is a safe spot that marionette attack can not hit you. Be carefull when you see him facing you, his scream attack is the real damger here. Dodge it immediately. You can easily tank few stacks of Torment (dark pools that are either close or far stacks it) using Ether Renewal to clean conditions. The main difficulty here, is that champion attacks are marked the same way as marionette attacks and that might confuse some players, but once you learn it, it’s pretty easy.

Champ 5: All you have to do is to stack on the regulator (with everyone else) so the mobs will stay in one place. I know that his charge attack deals a lot of damage, but it won’t oneshot you, so you can just use Arcane Shield if you are low on health and then use healing skill. If everyone stack there, he will die in few seconds and won’t do any harm to you.

@Jeromai: I never said to remove wurm from the open world. I never said to make dedicated raid servers to kill the current world bosses. NO!

I don’t understand you guys who are against. Explain me please, what’s the difference between a game with worls bosses, dungeons, fractals, open world content AND a game with world bosses, dungeons, fractals, open world content, raids?

Which one is a better game?

For me it’s clearly 2nd option. You have more choices of how you want to spend your time, you don’t really loose anything, noone who cleared raids can have advantage over you. You can still play as you want, people who finished raids will still play open world content and once you find a nice guild, you will go and do raids with them. You might be really good and clear all bosses or you are not good enought and kill only 1 or 2 easy bosses.

Another thing – what’s the difference between raids and for example guild puzzles? Both are designed for guilds, both can be done once a week and people who are in medium / big guilds are not isolating because they can do guild puzzles. The same people are still doing a lot of ther things and that wouldn’t change. The only difference is that they could do more fun stuff with friends, try different tactics and finally be proud that they cleared a raid.

Reasumming – for you, who really hate raids, there wouldn’t be any difference if they added them or not. The world bosses would still exist, players would still do them and once a week 25 players would isolate themselves in a raid instance (like they are not doing any dungeons anyway) for like 2, 3, 4 hours, kill some stuff, leave and then carry you again killing world bosses. I don’t see any difference for you.

Instanced Raid Content

Raids would be really awesome. In all games that I have been playing, guilds were competing in raids. It was something to show everyone: hey, our guild killed boss XXX, we are proud of it. It’s like PVE version of “guild wars” (not the game title).
Right now all that we have is “world wars”. We have WvW, we have raids that worlds compete who can kill the boss first. These worlds are like guilds in any other game, but in any other game we don’t have to pay to change guild.

Personally, I want more “guild wars” in Guild Wars instead of “world wars”. I’d like to see raid instances for around 25 players.
- they don’t have to drop anything really cool (maybe some unique ascended armors, like world bosses),
- no more tiers of equipment,
- they don’t have to be the only way to play

This is a great thing that everyone can play GW2 the way he likes. Noone is forced to do world bosses or fractals. The same would be with raids, but keep in mind that there is a lot of players that likes this kind of content. They would do it, they wouldn’t be stronger than you because you are not doing it, but they would have fun (including me).

My last word to all of you, who say that you don’t want raids in GW2, that they are bad etc: your logic is like – “I don’t like it so noone should like it. I’m not gonna do it so noone should do it”. I hope you see the point.

I don’t agree that anet should unbind ascended gear. It should be bound as it is.
I was playing the game when it was released, for around a month, until I maxed my character and left the game. I didn’t feel like doing anything, since I can’t get better rewards than I have actually.
Imo it is good that ascended set is not easy to get, that requires some effort and it is a good reason to play the game (that worked in my case).
Also it should’t be available on trading post as long as we can exchange gems for gold. People would just buy gold for gems and get ascended gear instantly without even playing the game and that would be unfair. Gem Store should stay like it is, not as a source of top tier gear.

Should there be another way to get ascended items? Yes, but that alternative method should require collecting something else that is also accound bound. I see ascended items as a reward for playing, not just for amount of gold that you have. As long as it require players to do something in the game to get it, then it’s OK.

Guild Wars?

yayuuu.9420

Imo more players should fight than only 5 vs 5. It have to be at least 15 vs 15. Also it have to be connected somehow with guild progression itself.

My idea is:
Guilds can build their own fortress. They can upgrade fortress, build stronger walls, cannons and all kind of defensive stuff. The fortress itself generates some kind of resources (something to upgrade fortress + maybe something usefull for players, like crafting materials that players can gather) every day. Other guilds may try to attack your fortress, but one guild may try to attack only one fortress per week. The event is started the same way as other guild challenges / puzzles etc, opponent is picked up based on the rating of the guilds. When the guild leader is starting the event, the guild who haven’t been attacked this week is picked.
Players of the attacking and defending guilds will see the date and time of attack / defense events.

The whole battlefield may include few objectives.
- Capture the outer wall:
Attacking and defending teams can use siege weapons. The outer wall have weak defense. Easy to capture.
- Capture the inner wall:
Attacking and defending teams can use siege weapons. Inner wall got strong turrets that defending players can operate. These turrets can be upgraded using these guild resources. It’s pretty hard to capture it.
- Kill the guild lord:
Attacking and defending players can no longer use siege weapons. Defending guild have to defend the guild lord (NPC). Guild lord is also protected by some guards or turrets or he is pretty strong himself, so it’s extremely hard to kill him together with 15 other players defending him.

The whole PVP event lasts around 30 minutes – 1 hour. Players can participate in 2 events per week (one attack and one defense).

Attacking guild can capture some part of the defending guild’s resources (the reward depends on how many events they accomplish in the given time, for example:
- Capturing outer wall – 30% of the weekly production of the resources.
- Capturing inner wall – 50%
- Killing guild lord – 60%

CoF – Magg path

CoE – all paths (the best dungeon imo, good difficulty balance)

I was usually doing lower level dungeons with lower level players in party (sometimes being the only lvl 80 in group).

Endgame

Imo this game has one basic problem.
The fastest way to get full exotic is… staying in 1 place and killing trolls together with 20 more players, looting powerfull blood and selling it on TP then buying the best equipment.
It takes 1 week to get max lvl and then 2 days to get the best gear. When you have the best possible gear, you will notice, that it’s not worth to do ANYTHING. Any event won’t give you a reward, because you have everything. Any killed dragon won’t give you a reward, any dungeon won’t give you a reward. Just nothing. You can start another character, but once you hit lvl 80 and the best gear, you are in the same point as before.
There should be something called character progress. You do something, so you become a bit stronger. It’s not a matter of days to become stronger, but for example, you have to kill all world bosses to get 1 trophy from each boss and then you can create some stronger armor from these. You have to kill some bosses in various dungeons to get something that you can exchange for another armir piece.
Everything you do, should give you a reward, so you will be able to focus on something to get what you want and once you get it, you will be happy and you will feel, that you want to continue playing to get more.
Atm, I’m farming dungeons to get skins for my elementalist (I’m missing only 60 tokens for gloves) and then I’ll probably get a thief to lvl 80, but after that I have no idea what to do in this game. For me fun is getting rewards, not repeating events or dungeons, so if you say that I should do what I want then I want to get rewards, doesn’t matter how.

I’m always playing dungeons with my brother. We are not clearing it in 10 or even 20 minutes, it’s usually around 1 hour per dungeon. Every day, my first dungeon run givekitten0 tokens, next 45 (even if it’s different path or even different dungeon), another 30 etc. My brother ALWAYS gets 60 tokens.
I have been farming COF before the patch, but it was before people started exploiting. My fastest COF run took around 25 minutes (not sure if it counts as a speed clear or not, but we haven’t skipped anything).
Now I have to wait around 3 hours every next path of the dungeon to get full reward!
It’s not fair, when exploiters have their sets already and fair players are punished for doing dungeons in normal way, clearing all mobs like it should be done.
