I guess if I had to choose melee would be the way I went, but whichever you think would be more successful.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Well that’s good news, coming over from the engineer I know every single trait and which are viable and which are not, however I can honestly say when it comes to the trait lines on the necro I am at a loss.
Can you recommend a build or two that you think would be starter friendly for me and perhaps I could branch out from there?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
So the topic says it all. I’ve only ever played engineer and after putting in tons of time on it I have found well played necromancers to be one of the hardest classes for me to bring down. So I’m looking into giving one a run just to know how to play against them.
With that being said what are some viable builds? Conditions, power it doesn’t matter just looking into viability.
Thanks in advance,
Zaragoz

So what would be our other best option at the moment adventuerer or undead possibly?

I’m not running HGH, and I didn’t know about nightmare runes, not sure what a good alternative would be at the moment? But 10 points can be pulled out of elxir tree and put into firearms to pick up hair trigger, and sharpshooter, both are viable options the infused precision gives you more survivability whereas the hairtrigger gives you more damage. Just personal preference.

So basically like everyone else I’ve been running the HGH condition build and owning with it, however after the recent buffs to toolkit I just can’t play without it. It just absolutely owns. So I started running it in place of elixir b and tweaked my traits around a bit and came to the conclusion that due to the insane amount of conditions that we can apply HGH while awesome, just isn’t necessary at least for me.
I would like to say I doubt I’m the first person to run this, but it does really good in spvp and seems even stronger in wvw due to double confusion dmg and I just wanted to share it with others.

Average fight starts like this, see an enemy pull them to you prybar them in the face, switch to grenade kit which procs geomancy, then hit them with shrapnel grenade followed by chill grenade, switch to pistols and unload everything. Against 90% of the people its over. Those that aren’t dead are hurt bad enough that they are on the run. If you get jumped you have elixir S to save your kitten as well as the added ownage of gear shield. You somewhat lack condition removal, but between the thrown variants of h and s and the elixirs themselves you do okay.
Anyway hope you guys enjoy.

Got to agree with everyone else, I have no idea whom you are fighting, but they must be terrible. I would love to run up against something like this while I’m running burst conditions… easy win.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Adding the shield actually won’t add much survivability and you will lose quite a bit of burst from blowtorch. Just use rabid amulet if you want increased survivability, thats about as good as it gets.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
If I had to level a new engineer, i would run pistol/pistol for main weapons for utility slots I would run elixir B, bomb kit and grenade kit. For equipment I would go for condition damage, power and vitality on everything. I would trait first for increased bomb radius, then for short fuse and then grenadier, after that go where you please, but that tree will increase your condition duration which is what you should be aiming for.
Aoe conditions are the way to go for the engineer and will allow you to solo huge packs of mobs. Goodluck
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Just curious, but what are you guys having success with in dungeons and fractals? Currently have been slacking off pve, but thinking about giving it another shot. Thanks for your time.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Okay, so I have been spvping alot latley, currently running Teldo’s condition node fighter, and I do really well in almost all my fights, my biggest problems being condition spamming necro’s which the build just seems weak against due to lack of condition removal, and of course as the post say Mesmers!
It seems everytime in a fight when I have the upper hand against the mesmer they drop stealth, and while they are stealth I seem to still be taking extreme damage? Not to mention the stealth makes me drop target, so when they do reappear its a click fest to retarget them, all the while they are just kicking my kitten Tab target doesnt’ seem to work for crap either due to number of clones most are throwing out. Although this seems alot like a rant I’m just looking for some sound advice on bringing down a decent mesmer because my track record against them is absolutley horrid. I just can’t seem to outdamage them and their survivability also seems to be better than mine.
If there are any serious engineer pvpers out there with some good tips for fighting them I welcome it.
Thanks,
Zaragoz

Add elixir gun to your bar and kit refinement to your traits. Double super elixir plus aoe bomb heals work pretty well. I don’t even use + healing gear, I simply use Rabid and it works fine.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
For pvp supply crate is really our only choice. It can be argued mortar is better for seiges, but I only ever use supply crate, I cannot begin to tell you how many times it has saved my kitten from theives and burst warriors, pretty much gives you a stun, root, burning damage and a heal all in one.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
I’ll bite how are you playing and what type of equipment are you using? I play tankcat and my only problem with it is lack of damage. I see your using rifle, how have you implemented it?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
To start, I play the tankcat pretty much 100% of the time now and really enjoy it. With that said I do sometimes find it low dps so I thought I’d load this up and give it a run in spvp. The lack of condition removal pretty much destroys the whole build, and like the above poster mentioned you have little to no way to damage while you block. I guess I’m just to used to tankcat, and the amazing survivability it offers, but thanks for taking the time to post this, and it was definatley worth trying out.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
So you can use one in both your shield and pistol and they actually work together? Also just curious mischwoof what runes are you having the most success with these days, Earth, Guardian or something else?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
I don’t know does 1 still miss 50% of the time? Did they add the ability to detonate the 2 ability to actually make it decent? If they fixed the missinng and added detonate I would definatley try it. Otherwise. No.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
So what do you think about sigils now? You going to continue running the same setup. Look forward to hearing what other people think will work well.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
What jewlery are you running with this build?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Are you running soldier’s weapons and armor as well? And what are you slotting in your jewelry? Soldier’s crests perhaps?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Yeah, I’ve been trying this build out for the last few days, because I was looking for something that was much harder to bring down. Had previously been playing rifle/toolbelt burst spec. The thing is though I just don’t seem to do any damage, and if the opposing player is smart they just don’t attack me when retaliation is up. Survivability is great and in zerg vs zerg i’m usually one of the last men standing, but I have certainly noticed I don’t get many lootbags anymore. Either way pretty cool spec and has certainly been a different play style. Thanks for posting
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
What upgrades are you going to put into the soldiers amulet and rings?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Interesting build with the rifle/elixirs but looks like it would really lack the burst that chain lightning offers. Might try it out tonight though and see how I like it.
So anyone running bombkit in wvw or is it one of those things that just doesn’t seem viable?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
This is what I’m currently running, full zerkers all out dps build. Mainly fight in smaller fights or at the edge of the zerg. Can throw out huge burst and personally prefer the tool kit to PBR. One volley of toolbelt skills can rip 50% of most peoples’ health instantly, after which you have tools to keep them at range.
I would like to here from some people who run bomb kit or other more survivable specs in wvw what are you running what is your playstyle and how does it work?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
So I have tried grenadier, flamethrower, Dual Pistol alchemist condition build, and have recently started running rifle/chain lightning build, out of all of them I am enjoying the crazy burst that rifle offers as well as the sheer amount of control. It kind of sucks as far as condition removal goes, but I can live with that. Just wondering what everyone else is running and if anything else is worth checking out wvw wise. Look forward to reading replies.
Thanks.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
So do you guys just run this with zerker’s armor? I have been trying it, and while i can throw a whallop down and control mellee fairly easily with the net shot/double knockback , ranged just seems to eat me alive. I switched to this after playing P/P condition/toughness so perhaps I’m doing it wrong. Always open to suggestions.
Thanks.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
I wear full rampager’s jewelry/armor/weapons. 2x sigils of earth and 2x runes of lyssa, 2x runes of the krait, and 2x runes of the afflicted. Spec is 10/30/0/30/0 which is just the basic all around P/P elixir spec. I am sure there are better set-ups and I do no claim to know what is best, but I can tell you that in wvw I do great with this set-up I usually only die when 1 v 1 when I get a really good warrior or theif on me, or am ganked, in which case I’m not sure toughness or extra hp would help anyway.
As a ranged character we mainly play on the outskirts of the zerg anyway running in and hitting them with blowtorch here and there when the opportunity arises. However the bottom line is this spec seems so much more viable to me than flamethrower was. I am sure there are better, but for the person not looking to micro manage a ton of different things this set-up is nice.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Well I have no idea about the gadget build or grenade build but I switched over from flamethrower today to P/P elixir build granted i’m level 80 and in full orange rampagers but kitten am i impressed. The damage seems to be awesome, which I know partly has to do with the fact that some people aren’t level 80, but I’m loving it thus far.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
As far as gear goes for the P/P elixir are you just going with something like rampager’s and if so what runes and sigils are you running?
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
I am really curious about the dual pistol thing as well. I have been running flamethrower and while it is okay, I just find the excessive misses on any strafing target to be a pain. Which now has me looking elsewhere for other viable specs. I would like to hear from some P/P engineers about how they do in wvw as compared to say a rifle/grenadier.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Hey, sorry I guess I should have posted that I plan on running exactly the flamethrower spec you posted in the sticky sorrow putting 10 in explosives for incendiary powder, 30 in firearms going for juggernaut, precise sights, and fireforged trigger, then picking up 30 alchemy and getting hgh and fast acting elixirs.
Zaragoz[SS] – 80 engineer
Hi guys, I just hit 80 and am now looking to start wvwvw full time. I have tried many different builds, and have read the forums quite a bit. However for whatever reason and even though I know it is currently kittened in comparison to grenades I would like to play a flamethrower engineer. I already have my spec in mind, however I have absolutely no idea what armor/jewelry to wear or what runes to use in it.
Would a mix of valkyrie and knight’s be good so that you can last a long time? If so what runes should I use?
Thanks a ton in advance!
