Disable WvWvW for anyone who transfers until the next match up

If it is disabled, then no one is going to be able to transfer just because of the current match up, or jump from a losing side to a winning one in the same match up.

The other options would be to disable transfers to currently matched servers.

Or both.

That would be better than just disabling them for everyone just for this problem.

If you or your guild is transferring for any other reason, this shouldn’t matter then, you can wait until the current match is over.

Hi!

I was going to post something similar, so you beat me to it. I support this idea, mainly because something similar already worked in GW1 GvG. There the only limitation was that you did not get any reward for about a week if you recently changed guilds. Here it would be more appropriate if world transfers would result in a complete “ban” from WvW content at least until the next match. This way if you transfer on friday then you’d miss 1 day of WvW at most. (Besides server transfer should be something that’s important, it shouldn’t be working like a simple “connect to other server”.)

Though some tactics would still be available. I don’t know how the matchmaker works exactly, but if it’s deterministic then players could figure out who will they face next week and plan according to that. If someone is determined to go to that length to “cheat” then those issues will still remain.

I can’t pass by a Skritt without applying a slap.

It’s an unreasonable hatred stemming from my experiences in my first foray into the beta. I chanced upon a Skritt bottle lobber who was about three levels above me and I was unprepared for the encounter. Now, despite knowing better and obtaining sufficient levels on my main to handle Skritt in copious amounts in Queen’s Forest, I experience a kill or be killed reaction that ensures carnage will ensue whenever they’re around.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve escorted Slim Mikhart on his mission to blow up their cave support.

And still they return. Still they plague me…

And some people want them as a playable race. :P

A lot of people don’t revive others during DE’s and boss fights because they risk losing Gold, and sometimes, even getting anything at all. Why don’t we get contribution points for reviving someone that is fighting the boss? Sometimes someone is standing next to you but won’t revive you or his rewards may be affected. :/

You are supposed to be getting credit for reviving downed players, it’s strange that you’re not. (and I haven’t noticed that I’m not, but I haven’t worried about it too much) Just like, your chance of getting loot is supposed to have nothing to do with who hits the enemies first or hardest; they mention this all the time in videos and articles. I suppose someone with AoE is going to get more loot than non AoE people, but that’s about it … at least that’s how it should be working.

For the record, if I’m in an event and you get downed, I’ll always try to get you up if I can … and I would hope other people do the same! In my experience the revive mechanic, the xp sharing and the – I thought – the loot share have all encouraged more of a cooperative feel to the game.

It all depends on the player. I might be lucky, but I almost always see players that help up others if the situation allows it.

Fixes & Improvements that I wait for GW2

My response:

WvW

  • Armor damage is intended and does make sense. No reason to change.
  • Hidden enemy names is a design choice to promote WvW. No real reason to change.
  • Queue system is being fixed…
  • I have nothing to say about group queue…
  • What? No! I want to play as well, not just those who have a big guild.
  • I have nothing to say about map status.
  • There is no fix to night capping… deal with it.
  • Grace time could be exploited. How should ANet tell if you really DCd or just unplugged or reset your router.
  • This might be an issue, though if someone plays a dead spy, that could become boring real fast.

sPvP – I can’t add anything, suggestions seems valid to me
UI – can’t add anything

Armor & Weapons

  • Why would you need the history of your items?
  • Damaged armor is the same as normal armor. Broken armor doesn’t give anything.

Craft

  • I don’t see why this is a bad thing that needs to be fixed. And btw fixed by how?
  • I didn’t feel that crafting takes too much materials.
  • Bags are more useful than exotic armor/weapon, price seems right.

Target

  • I don’t see this necessary. And imagine a DE boss: 2 players 2000/2000 additional 12 players chime in, the numbers change to 80000/80000. Do you really need to see that. The health bar is the life % approximately.
  • I think this is an intended difficulty. You have to know your enemy in order to kill him efficiently.

Gem store

  • Race change? seriously? How do you pull that off? Just start another character.
  • Nothing to add here.
  • Really again? Just start another character. How many times could you reset the story? Would you get all rewards again?
  • Nothing to add here.

Karma & gold – nothing to add here (I didn’t use karma vendors, only for fun items)

Trade

  • There is no need for trade. You can trade with trusted partners via the mail system. Or just use the TP and thus reduce the risk of being scammed.
  • Selling a 2s NPC vendor price item for 20s and getting 17s still looks good for me.

Dungeon

  • Dungeon armor is supposed to be unique. First you DO NOT NEED the armor you can get there. If you want it to because you want to look cool, then you have to work hard for it. Why? Because that’s how the item keeps its value, by being scarce among players.
  • Nothing to add here.
  • Dungeons are being balanced.
  • Dungeons are being balanced.
  • Nothing to add here.

Misc – I don’t have anything to say.

Note: there is a difference between downed and dead. It’s more encouraging to res downed players, because it doesn’t take that long. If you’re dead, and in the middle of the fight… well that’s a different thing.

There’s always a way to escape grinding! Just jack the XP rates to 800% or so, and with 1 kill, you’ll be level 80 :p

I joke though, but it might be possible a lot of people played MMORPG’s on “private servers” and commonly, those types of servers have some increased XP rates, and they feel that every game should be 1-kill-level-max or something :/

I would have enjoyed, that one-kill you’re lvl 80 deal.

I managed to get 500 salvages just doing general farming in Orr.

By the way, I’m a level 80 and the reward I got for my monthlies was 52 copper, 7k experience and 20 mystic coins

The last part was nice, but the first two parts felt…pretty underwhelming.

Wow… What’s the point of even having an experience reward if they’re going to give a level 80 7k experience.

You can still gain skill points after you reach 80. So lvl 81 = lvl80 + 1 skill point.

Life is grind. Repetition is part of our existence.

However, it’s not always experienced as bad or undesireable. Personally I think that people call something grind, not when it’s repetitious but because they don’t enjoy whatever it is that needs to be repeated.

So the real question is, what is it that people don’t enjoy and how come?

I don’t enjoy grinding at work. I could be playing GW2

But the point is, this is not GW1.

I never said it was…

We are essentially, no matter how cheesy this sounds, in a new era of gaming where comparing it to an aged game is somewhat bemusing to me. GW2 is essentially a different game to GW1, the only thing that is really the same is the world and the lore.

But the point is, why was this needed in the first place? To combat bots? Seems like a lazy implementation to me when you punish your normal legit players and the much lower population of people that bot.

If GW1 is of any indication, then the anti-farming policy comes from the view, that they do not want to encourage players to do repetitive stuff. And they achieve this, by discouraging the farming of the same area. By this they expect that players will expand their “farming territory”, thus “enjoying” more parts of the game.

At least this is what I understand.

But honestly, the changes limiting an individuals ability to farm was a kick in the kitten.

This was always the mentality of ANet, I don’t know why it’s such a surprise for you.

And yes, the only reason they don’t write every little detail down in forum posts, must be because they want us to suffer and ruin the gaming experience. Clearly there must be no other reason.

It’s more like the things they don’t mention are the things that are likely to be unpopular. It seems they’re afraid of public backlash.

The forums are bad as it is. Why would they want to fuel it any further.

Besides, it’s not like players need to know everything.

One of the mostly bold simple minded ideas I have ever heard. You must be a sheep.

By hiding unpopular changes that isn’t going to reduce player annoyance. As stated over and over, players will find this out, in fact they already have, which is why the forums are buzzing!

Yeah, I was too lazy to add much thought to it.

Then they wanted to get attention :P

Anyways, why are these unpopular changes?

I noticed today while playing my warrior toon that damage numbers just don’t add up and seem to have diminishing returns on burst damage. Here’s the situation – I was auto attacking a mob (reg mob outside of any event), each hit doing about 500 damage after 12 hits approximately 6k damage the mob dies. I’m using duel axes, same mob I do attack 5 “whirling axe” the total successive damage is well over 6k more towards 10k…and the mob is only at about half health each time….the numbers just don’t add up.

GW1 – buy one, play unlimited, in game store, expansions, tournaments
GW2 – buy one, play unlimited, in game store, possible future expansions, possible tournaments

It is clear to me that GW2 is intended to be different, but I would like to hear from those who are still enjoying GW2 after reaching level 80. What maintains your interest, what motivates you to keep playing?

The moment I hit 80 I feel relieved. For me it meant that I no longer have to care about my level, I’m at the top, from now on I can go anywhere I want without constraints. I like to explore, I like to talk to NPCs, learning about their stories, finding those little gems that the game has to offer.

What, if anyone knows, is Anet’s intention with this game? Having a game free to play, in my opinion, really limits the developers’ ability to regularly produce new and exciting material so I wonder how far the game can really go.

They pulled it off once with Guild Wars. I see no reason why Guild Wars 2 would fail to keep the same one time purchase model. This would most likely mean that in about 1 year a major expansion will come out, that you have to buy in order to access it’s content.

Hey there,

I quite like this game, however I have one question regarding backpack sorting. Is there a way to nominate an item to be excluded from the “compact” feature of the inventory management?

I’m constantly finding I’m having to spend time trying to find where my weapons go after I click “compact” to sort my inventory. If you could right click an item in the inventory and flag it to be ignored from “compacting” it’d be a step in the right direction. In a perfect world I’d love to be able to have a “weapons” backpack as such, but that might be stretching it.

Invisible bags are the one you’re looking for, it’s an in-game bag type, what you put there, it stays there.

No one said, that GW2 will have 0 grind. Grind will make items more valued, thus giving the one who does the grinding a certain level of achievement. And here it is the ability to wear something.

The game is not revolving around endgame, there is no such a thing. There is no subscription fee, you CAN leave and COME BACK whenever you want. There is no need to give rewards for those who stay. Stay if you like, leave if you feel bored, come back if you feel like playing again.

The philosophy of the entire game is to give a fun and meaningful activity for everyone.
There is story, PvP, scenic environment, massive sieges, small team elite content and they also have something for those who have the time and like to grind. Yes there are people who like to grind. And they are appropriately rewarded with exclusive elite cosmetics. That gives no benefit at all except cool looks.

Only 2 simple things needed to fix dungeons...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: zogrim.6925

zogrim.6925

There are many suggestions for fixing dungeons going around. However, I feel only 2 things are really needed to “Fix” them. The other suggestions may be valid improvements, but to the most simple things to fix the experience of dungeons right now:

1. Fast and cheap trait respec adjustment. Add a NPC at the beginning of each dungeon that can reset your traits. This gives parties the ability to figure out what might work better and adjust strategy. Glass Cannon warrior spec not working out too well for you? go respec into tactics and defense for more of a support/tank role.

2. Incentive. Better or more unique rewards from the dungeons themselves. As it is right now, most of the stuff is suited for vendor or maybe… salvage. More crafting mats would help too. Maybe some Orchachalcum ore towards the end of each level 80 dungeon as a example. The tokens are great, but only useful for looks for all the pre 80 dungeons, so perhaps adjust the token cost of the pre 80 dungeon vendors to a point where it might be realistic to get a set for use while leveling up.

Regarding 1.

You do know that you can leave the dungeon whenever you like and come back after you changed your build?

Yes, WvW will always be unfair. Yes, you as an individual cannot always affect WvW (e.g. when you are asleep). What is winning? Winning in WvW to me is doing a good job at domination enemy groups/zergs or regions for the time I am in WvW. WvW itself is designed as an ongoing process that ends at some point in order to rebalance the matchup, but not because one team reached a specific score. If WvW was like sPvP with a winning condition, then yes you could win in WvW. Currently you cannot win WvW, only have a good time and show allies and enemies who is better organized and better at PvP for the time being.

Your efforts will go to nothing in WvW, whether you like it or not, only a complete redesign of WvW will make changes permanent. But permanence is not what WvW is about. A tracking system would show your performance and might reflect your efforts in a meaningful way.

What’s annoying is that as a result of all this necessary grind, farming is all people do. Finding a party to do Orr story mode took me 30 minutes, then I decided to do explorable since there’s plenty of people for that… but my group ported out after two bosses, apparently all everyone does is repeat those two steps over and over.

I’d like to join a group and do a dungeon the normal way just having fun, but if you do it that way getting a whole armor set will take months. So of course people just farm to bring that time down to a week, doing it the intended way would take too long.

Just playing the game should be rewarding without having to find cheap ways to grind.

I think that’s a problem with the mentality of the players.
