Sinc e day one.
Since day one.
Thanks for the tip on the PvP reward track! That’s exactly what I was looking for.
I’m at 45 mastery unlocked and haven’t seen one yet.
Don’t say buy a yellow.
Yeah I don’t get it either. I played a lot of pvp and such but I couldn’t understand what it’s doing (probably nothing) or how to get it to work. Somebody told me a button is supposed to appear but I’ve never seen it.
Edit: I use “Search and Rescue” on my Ranger which seems very similar and that works great.
Not a bad idea.
But effects need to be considered carefully. Every effect has the danger of overcrowding a screen. Too many effects and it’s impossible to discern what is happening. I think we have all been in a Zerg where that happened.
As it stands, all friendly fields are already showing as white, so it’s not like they don’t exist.
It seems when people are about to die they either flail about randomly dodging, or retreat. Either way it’s pretty hard to hit them with heals.
However, I like that it is AoE so you don’t have to worry about targeting.
Maybe appearing sooner like you mentioned would be good.
Confirmed behavior for me. If you get some details on the conditions surrounding it post it on the HoT bugs thread.
The movement is very powerful, like they said above with multiple leaps you can escape pretty easily if you need to. It does take practice, certainly more complicated than “spam 2 from max range.”
I do just fine in large groups, you have to be aware of where the zerg is rotating and not over-commit.
If you get low, takes 2 seconds to switch to greatsword, charge in the direction of your own team, then block with 4 until everybody un-targets you and you are safe. You don’t want the knock-back to trigger, it’s more valuable to get the full block duration most often. Seems to me you can throw it after the block duration ends if you time it perfectly. Can other rangers confirm?
Also in terms of build I use healing spring, since you have two leaps you can combo for extra heals. Personally I get a lot more healing out of that, but again it takes practice to be in the right position to leap across your healing spring multiple times. The signets are up to preference, you can see some differences, but lightning reflexes is pretty much required.
Am I misunderstanding this limitation?

I assume someone already had a plugin floating around for Overwolf from last time
Okay those folks couldn’t quite get the current WvW map.
The world_id seems to be broken in WvW as well.
Right. I forgot that the world_id was always broken in WvW, so this value is basically useless now in all cases.
Aww that sucks, hope they fix it so I can find the world automatically from my Overwolf app.
But it does seem to reliably provide some good information, like character class and name.
I found a different method on pulling current in-game info:
http://www.gw2hud.com/
Apparently the game provides detailed information for high-end keyboards, and if you write software which pretends to be one, you can tap into it. I’ll need to do more research to see if it is compatible with the whole overwolf concept.
I’m kind of confused. I read the API calls available, and it doesn’t seem like there is any way to get information about the local instance of the game or the user that is running the [overwolf] app. Which would seem important to have, being a HUD-based program.
For example, for the WvW apps one can gather the map info and graphics, but there is no way to know which map the user is at. They have to select it manually.
Am I misunderstanding this limitation?
I often have lightning reflexes on my bar because it will break the infamous sword lock and is a good backup if you mess up a swing and get locked into some incoming pain.
I also disable auto-targeting. This is also very important to have full control over your movement. I utilize the “180 turn” button to quickly aim my hornet/monarch leap the opposite direction if desired. I think it’s a very good move to practice.
Secondly with auto-targeting disabled you will notice swinging 1 on enemies will cause you to jump forward. So you can float through a mass of bodies by spamming 1 with no target.
Both of those concepts combined give you very good positioning anywhere on the battle field. Can be used as closers, escapes, or switching targets. With a lot of practice good positioning is one of melee ranger’s big strengths, rather than a weakness.
I spent 10g to put this build on my warrior. With seal+dolyak+regen+adrenal health I get about 1,200/sec regen and 1 condi removal/5 sec. I’d imagine you could get over 1,500/sec but I only spent half an hour duplicating the build with non-ascended gear. It’s very strong and can do okay damage but against a player who is tight on defense it will easily be a stalemate like any bunker variant.
Okay I figured out what gear to get for my warrior. That’s frighteningly easymode, the guy can barely look straight but dominates lol.
/bump
I think this content is great too.
thanks
I brought pets that spam cripple for the meatless achieve, so they were very useful in that one and others. In others where insta-kill traps are all over, they are useless.
Nevertheless, I was happy to use my ranger for the most difficult achievements.
What sort of funds would you have lost? Also, I thought the cache achievement is independent of the puzzle achievement.
I know it’s hard. It’s the last one I have left to complete. Can’t be harder than the mad king’s clock tower though.
Same here, I’m very happy with my experience. I logged in thinking I had missed it, but with the help of guild mates I was able to experience an amazing event. I’m so glad overflows were able to continue to restart it, people kept logging in all night gasping “I just got home, is it over?” and I’d try to help them get in.
We sat there waiting. There was no catapult building, no attack, no cinematic.
Then after 15 minutes the event info switched to counter-attack, which we could then do.
Does anybody know how to recover your account if your phone gets lost/broken? Google has recovery passwords that you can write down and save elsewhere for cases where your phone is hosed, but I can find no list of recovery passwords like that for Guild Wars 2.
Dropbox and Lastpass use Google’s native authenticator as well, and they have a recovery option available. Unfortunately it simply circumvents the authenticator and lets you log in without it, which makes the whole exercise pointless.
To the guy who had the idea to write down the secret key: thanks. It’s a great idea, but it does require you to get another phone (since yours fell in a pool), install the app, and run the key to recover your account.
So, Anet, please put a recovery number in the security tab of account management.

Thanks for this change, it’s a reasonable and fair limitation to everybody.
Why don’t you just validate from MAC address?
Because that doesn’t provide as much security.
There is no protection beyond not knowing a person’s mac address. Once they know it, you’d be screwed.
However, IP addresses, along with the person not knowing it, has the added measure of directing traffic where to go. So if you fake your IP pretending to be from Florida, the server will send responses to Florida, not your mother’s basement in Iowa, where your poor hacking attempt is actually located.
While I think beeps would be annoying, I do support the idea of having sounds associated with large incoming attacks. There was one tough guy I was fighting, I don’t remember what it was; a champ or something, but it made a sound before his big attack rather than a red circle. I thought it was nice, but I wondered what happened to any poor fellow who had his volume low. Probably could never figure out when an attack was coming and got crushed.
tl;dr sounds good, beeping no
I ran into a couple events like this. At first, I was dismayed, annoyed, and feared for my life. “They keep coming, five at a time! They won’t stop!” But somehow the pressure forced me to adapt. I realized “I’m doing it, I’m doing it!” and I ended up killing the waves of bad guys that were unfairly spawning upon me. I moved slowly, but I felt my actual skill bump up at that moment.
It was a challenge that I overcame, and sometimes if I’m in the mood I will seek out those groups of 10 mobs + champion. I don’t always beat them, but sometimes I do. If the game was easy everywhere I wouldn’t have a reason to keep playing at 80.
A lot of MMO veterans think a challenge is a problem for some reason.

I have a question. Is it possible to set up the system so that you only have to use the authenticator PIN if you are logging in from a new IP address instead of having to use it every time? It is not a huge deal, but since e-mail auth is locations dependent, it would be more convenient if the Mobil Auth worked the same way.
I disagree. There is no sense making them work the same way. The email is for confirmation and the authenticator is another layer of security. Making it only ask you sometimes undermines the two-factor authentication.
If they are going to add a 30 day timer, it should be in email settings.
My Wow account was constantly hacked so I like it this way. Thanks Anet.

I can 1v1 every profession except good mesmers. Yes, clearly you’re doing it right.
Second this, I can beat everybody but Mesmer.
I noticed a trend of people switching to whatever world was winning so they could get more karma/kills/loot.
I think it’s lame, so I’m ready for charging gems to switch worlds.
I also realized a future issue, where everybody who wants to win all the time just switches to the #1 server. WvW population limits would would limit this problem, but few want to join a losing battle so that can’t ever kick in to balance.
At least most people switch back toward the end of the WvW rotation, ready to switch to the winning team next round.
Face it, the naga razer is the only thing that makes this class bareable
in Engineer

For my keybinds:
7 8 9 0 are Z X C F (I used this config with guild wars 1 so it has to stay)
F1 F2 F3 F4 are now Shift, Q, Mouse3, V
switched F with E
Like others are saying with the right config and some practice you shouldn’t feel strained.
This thread, and others, are hinting a larger, broader question: “Do engineer abilities scale with gear?” So far, as reports come in, it seems engineer skills largely ignore gear. Is this a good or a bad thing?
We have yet to see. Many questions remain.
But it’s one of the first fights since you start the game. Player don’t even know what half of their buttons do at that point. It should be fun and engaging, challenge can come after level one.
I realize that you will probably never see zero clipping issues, but Norn definitely has the most issues. Sometimes half of my hands are going through my waist (I chose the fattest body build and I’m regretting it.)
I also noticed that OP’s post assumes that aggro actually exists in this game. As far as I can tell, aggro does not exist as veteran MMO players understand it. Instead, we have enemy AI.
Well let’s think of some tips for the guy, eh?
One thing that helps me is to focus on making it easy to attack my pet and hard to attack me. You can accomplish this with several methods.
First, apply a slow of some sort, so that chasing you around becomes more work. This is gold on melee enemies; after they are crippled they won’t bother trying anything out of arms reach.
Secondly, keep going in and out of enemy range. Let’s say that they attack every 4 seconds. If you aren’t in range for their next swing, they won’t be targeting you, will they?
Finally, dodge. I can’t prove it, but it seems like missed attacks in general push them towards changing targets.
Lastly, don’t stand on your pet’s feet. Many attacks hit multiple foes in front of them, and standing in the line of fire just adds you to the target list. Strafe to the side or behind and get a clear view of who your enemy plans on hitting.
First off, great video, thanks for sharing.
I gotta disagree on your evaluation of Devourers. I see you use a longbow, so you probably have the classic mindset that “pets should tank while I dps.” However, I hope you experiment with other play styles to see how a ranged pet could work well. What first comes to mind is the situation where you told your Moa to stay next to you during a big boss battle; whereas a Devourer could run along and actually get involved in that fight.
You know, I find it hard to understand how many rangers here have a set ‘build,’ because I see many weapons/skills/talents that work best in various situations.
Axe mainhand is for medium range multiple enemies, and warhorn is good with allies, as it’s the only offhand that affects allies. So overall, I would use axe/warhorn while with allies and I expect multiple targets. An event with many players jumping on board to fight waves of enemies, for example, allows the axe/warhorn to shine. I also think that warhorn is much better suited to axe than to sword, making your bar fully ranged.
They can… somewhat, but you have to take the right pet and the right build. Don’t expect them to live through the entire boss battle like a player tank, that will never happen.
I did a level 70 dungeon today and one of my Moas was able to stay up for a couple minutes at a time, which is pretty good.
With some practice, I should be able to utilize F3 to move him out of enemy attacks and keep him up even longer. I did F3 a couple times to get him out of an AoE and felt rather proud of myself.
Remember, every second they are on your pet is a second they aren’t on your team.

- Nature’s Boon is supposed to increase regeneration duration by 33%, but it doesn’t increase the duration of troll ungent. Troll ungent doesn’t apply a regen boon but it’s description says “regenerates health.”
- Hide in Plain Sight applies camouflage to your pet when it is knocked down/stunned as well.
- This only happened once but Search and Rescue on a downed ally caused my pet to stick to that ally after rezzing until I switched pets out. It looked hilarious.
Geez, nothing but complaints in these forums. I don’t have anything to say about your comments but I love my ranger!
Why make it an immobile block though?
Huh…you know, I never thought of that. Why is our block an immobile one? Other classes have this similar mechanic (Block, do something else if not block happens) and they can move while blocking.
It never really occurred to me that we have to be rooted when doing this…that should definitely change.
Nah other classes have a skill like that: an immobile block that does some other effect if you cancel it early. Just rolled guardian and they have one.
If you find nobody is attacking your block, simply throw it, don’t just stand there. One thing I recommend is rotating sideways to your pet or other players, so that it is always obvious to you which way the mob is turning and who it intends on attacking.
Also, has anybody considered disabling auto-attack on 2handers? Considering the third attack is a dodge, one could theoretically dodge every attack against one mob by timing your third swing perfectly.
Me and my pet eagle " ’Merica" are THE combo.
Haha I named my eagle Merica too!
The suggestions are great so far. I also noticed that the birds swoop attack (not an F2) reliably executes a combo finisher.
Since discovering the combo mechanic I have only been able to execute a couple consistently. I generally use frost trap or flame trap as an opener, and 2h sword charge or 1h sword leap as a finisher.
What other combos are you guys using?
Better him than me.
I never once rezzed my pet in battle, and I feel like the pop up to rez was just annoying. If you are fighting a boss that kills your pet so quickly, how can you possibly think it’s worth it to spend 30 seconds rezzing so he can fight for 5 seconds?
ITT: Eles think enemies not dying in 2 seconds is a problem.
Haven’t had a chance to go over all the ele talents but I plan on getting some toughness and vitality and staying alive. That may be at the cost of everthing dying when I look at it but hey, you aren’t level 5 forever.
(edited by Moderator)
This isn’t a bug, its a balance issue. But the vitality talent that increases regen time not working on troll ungent is.
First, expand your map to make it bigger. Then you can grab the bar on the side between the icons and drag it to another part of the screen.
Along the same lines, the “Juvenile” should be removed from the default pet name. It causes a lot of confusion when players see it and try to charm a pet which actually belongs to a ranger already.
The game gets confused as well. I sometimes see “charm animal” pop for a second on other people’s pets.
It’s not game-breaking so I’d rather they fix other stuff first.
When you use discovery it actually makes the item. It should be in your inventory.
Going from a level 30 Story Quest to a level 48 ( skipping the story line!! )
Posted by: spayced.2016
Are you sure the quest level is 48, and it isn’t just in a level 48 area? Also what are the names of the quests you were on previously and are on now?
