Eyefinity at the moment is superior in performance, due to its higher memory bandwidth. But of course has the UI issue. If you go Nvidia, make sure to get a 6xx verion card, because the old 5xx generation doesn’t support Surround on one card.
And a side note: Its not Nvidia 3D vision. That’s the name for their 3D solution. Its called Nvidia Surround.
Interesting, good to know.
Since they have already resolved the issues with Nvidia surround and the UI, I am surprised that the issue still exists with Eyefinity. I have to admit that after long periods of playing, looking left and right for mini map and chat starts to take it’s toll.
Also a side note. If there is any chance of you ever wanting utilize GW2 multi-monitor support, Nvidia hands down. ATI (eyefinity) suffers GW2 UI issues that Nvidia users do not and until Anet chooses to address these issues, ATI is a big inconvenience over Nvidia.
I’m always confused by these kinds of complaints. I mean, for one, the game has hardly been out for half a year. They’re not going to pump out new armors so quickly. I don’t really know what to tell you if you’re already sick of GW2 because of the lack of cosmetics.
I understand that they’re part of the goal of the game (that’s why I liked GW so much), but they’re not the everything either.
Your post seems to imply that they’re not making new armors, and they’ll never make new armors ever. But it’s already been clearly stated that Ascended gear is on its way soon – it’s being introduced in stages.New, expanded armor art nearly always came with new expansions in GW, so I guess that’s what tempers my expectations of how often new armors will be released, and the manner which they will be released in.
My personal gripe with the armor art? A lot of it is very similar to one another, and each class does not have its own, unique art. That’s really what my main issue is. I don’t want my guardian to look like a warrior, or my elementalist to look like a mesmer. That’s both boring, and tactically problematic – in WvW I want to stand next to the player that’s most likely to heal or buff me, and with armors spanning multiple profs, sometimes it’s difficult to tell.
This presents another point, what they have actually done. While I am not in the camp of feeling betryed that they added a new tier of armor when they stated that the game would not be a gear grind, they seem to be reinforcing this with every update thus releasing even more accended gear.
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to release more cosmetic options via exotic gear instead of just releasing more and more accended gear. This way it would give players more options to play for while not funneling all players to accended gear. They could have taken this route with this Jan patch but they instead released even more accended gear. Given the choice, I would rather have new exotic skins than more accended gear.
And yes, I do feel as though the game has been out long enough to realistically expect these things by now.
Now that another patch has passed, one thing has continued to boggle my mind is if end game basically comes down to cosmetics, why hasn’t there been more options added since release in August? This seems as though it is such a simple thing to add and more cosmetic options for the players will give them more goals to reach. I would have thought they would have added a lot more armor/weapon skin options by now but instead we have gotten non cosmetic options (backpack, jewelry).
Is Anet just taking the easiest option? To me it is far easier to develop new items in the game that do not have an appearance than having to develop skins for every race and gender but is that what players would really want? I would be willing to bet that just about every player givin the choice, would rather have items added to the game that affect their appearance or simply giving them more appearance options than the game had at release. I do understand that they have released holiday related skins but imho they are more novelty than something someone would use as a permanent/full time skin.
The question is why isn’t Anet playing to the games strengths of end game cosmetics? Why is releasing more skin options such a rarity? To me it is a very easy carrot to throw out there for it’s player base and will go a lot further than adding new non-cosmetic items to the game. So if it all comes down to looks, why aren’t they building on that?
Since we just patched and several more to come, I am hoping there will be an update to this issue. Please let us Eyefinity users move chat and mini map to center monitor….
All crafting disciplines are only useful for leveling your character and to make Rares to break into ectos it’s sad but its the reality.
Unless you are a jeweler, since our rares require Ecto for some reason whereas all other professions do not. This makes producing rares as a jc incredibly unprofitable.
I am placing all my bets on Archeage which as it turns out is releasing this year. This is the game which will show where MMO’s should be by now…
what is the point of new content if the combat is boring and will kill the game.
Honestly, combat is the last thing I would criticize this game about. The combat style in this game is the best I have even seen and most fun (and yes I tried Tera and hated it). In fact, the titles coming on my radar, loosing GW2 combat will be the hardest adjustment, far better than standing still tab-targeting.
I think the main thing with the content people forget is that it’s their first year, meaning they got to create the holidays.
After that, it’s a case of just saving the event to file and loading it into the game when the time comes around. This means that the time they spent creating the holiday event this year will be used developing permanent content next year.
However, I believe these coming updates are the best course of action: Strengthen existing content with systems so you don’t have to spend time strengthening content you’ve been introducing all year.
If you believe they created those holidays during that time, you would be wrong. The holiday events you saw were designed far before the game’s launch and were probably in development from the beginning since they were such a big part of GW1.
I guess my hopes are they will tune existing content while giving us something new to consume as well such as a new level 80 zone or guild housing.
Personally, the biggest thing I am looking forward to is WvWvW purpose. While I think WvWvW is awesome, long term commitment to it for just the fun factor isn’t enough. Now that they will be adding titles and better rewards, this will finally open up as an end game option for me.
Content will come when it comes. You do not pay a monthly fee and as such, you have no reason to feel obligated to log in every day when the game gets boring for you. Take a break and come back when the next big event happens. The game will still be here when you get back.
I was definitely expecting this response. I think part of my issue is that I have always been an advocate of the P2P model and feared what B2P or F2P would mean for long term retention or if a F2P game could be played as a main MMO. This is the first B2P game I have attempted to play as a main MMO so my expectations may have been to high. Not to mention I am an ex-Rift player and was somewhat spoiled with their frequent patch cycle and always having new content to consume.
Nonetheless, I have vowed that GW2 will be my last themepark, so there are no other games currently released, I will want to invest time in. So playing something else until content updates isn’t an option.
There is a lot I really love about GW2 and believe it or not, the large zones and exploration there within gives me a tiny sandbox fix but I just don’t feel as though adding only carrots will be a very good idea for GW2’s future.
There is a topic that I have yet to see about upcoming updates that seriously concerns me. While I am sure there is a lot we don’t know about what is to come in the next few patches, all indicators suggest no new content, just new carrots to grind for.
Here is my point, since GW2 was released, there has been very little new PERMANENT content. They added the new island and FOTM. Most don’t visit the island aside from the Ori node so that leaves FOTM. I am not sure ANet really understands that all we have had is holiday events that expire and go away. So it is likely that we still will not see any new content until after April. So until then, we will be continuing to grind the same zones, the same dungeons, same events etc but with better rewards.
I am coming up on my third 80 and will be fully geared in no time but I truly feel as though just adding new carrots will not be enough to keep players interest till nearly summer without anything new to do. I would have bet that after all the major holiday events were over, we would start seeing new PERMANENT content but it seems that may not be happening.
If the biggest most exciting feature people are excited about is a gem store backpack, isn’t that a red flag? I seriously doubt I can keep grinding Orr or the same dungeons for many more months to come without something new.
While I appreciate what they are trying to do, tuning what they have. This doesn’t take into account that there has been very little new content since release and holiday events don’t count. So that is quite a stretch of time for players to keep playing the same content especially considering GW2 was lacking in the end game department from day one.
Do you all honestly feel as though tuning will be enough to maintain interest until new content is developed?
Archeage just announced their NA publisher today…..
This topic is seriously beating a dead horse. Most MMO’s, this is one of the most requested features including this one but as always it isn’t a development priority and is something they would like to add in the future. For most MMO’s that future never comes. What I can guarantee, it will not come for free and will likely be included in a paid expansion which isn’t even on the radar atm.
More to my point, I have come to the conclusion that hoping sandbox features get added to a themepark games is a exercise in futility. These games were never advertised as sandbox games so hoping for these features especially in a reasonable amount of time is an unrealistic expectation. I will also go as far as to say it really isn’t fair to expect it out of a themepark. Since every game I have played since DaOC, the one feature I want the most is housing but time and time again it isn’t a dev priority.
Going forward, I feel it is far more constructive to just play themeparks for what they are, themeparks and set your sights on the next AAA sandbox title. One of which was just announced today for us here in NA. Until then I will just enjoy GW2 for what it is and not make it into something it was never advertised to be.
Considering cooking dye kits are currently yielding dye colors outside the stated spectrum, I am sure it won’t work in the MF either.
Honestly I am soooooo tired of talking about this feature. Seems as though every game released these days omits these features while at the same time there is an overwhelming demand for it. Seems like every game I play, player/guild housing is one of the most requested features that players are begging for which translates to long term player retention.
Yet game after game is released missing this feature while nearly all say they would like to implement it eventually but it isn’t a development priority atm. The problem is that there are a TON of true sandbox games coming and I have a feeling that by the time this is implemented, one of these games which has included it from the get go and developed for it from the ground up will take players away from GW2 so they can finally experience this feature.
I doubt player/guild housing will be included in free content so I suspect if anything it will be part of their first paid expansion which isn’t even on the radar atm so it is likely to come too late for most.
I hate being negative on these boards as we have enough of this already but this one topic is a rather sore spot for me since I have been looking for player housing in my MMO since DaOC. and every MMO I end up committing to it never happens (except Rift but that also came too late).
As we most things, it’s probably better just to farm gold and then buy them off the TP. Molten are about 13s right now, with Destroyers at about 39s.
What are the obvious reasons that you’re not willing to buy them off the TP?
Cheers.
Keep in mind that even buying them off the AH isn’t that cost effective because you need two and 25s per combine because you need to buy wine from the mystic forge merchant for every 2. So you are still spending at least 1.05g per combine. It is even less cost effective combining shards to cores because they still have the 25s requirement per combine.
Word of warning upon farming 20 destroyer lodestone for my destroyer dagger, you will probably never see a lodestone drop in either fractles, miner bags, or Mount Maelestrom. Destroyer Lodestones are one of the only lodestones that rarely if ever drop in it’s native form but rather will need to be upgraded via 2x cores in the forge. This makes Destroyer Lodestones imho one of the most frustrating and difficult types to farm. So just know what you are in for if you decide to farm these.
I ended up just combining whatever I could, Destroyer Shards to cores and cores to lodestones. I hope that one day ANet will add Destroyer Lodestones to the loot table of level 75-80 mobs somewhere in the world instead of level 66 mobs (comes with a penalty) in Mount Maelstrom.
The results don’t really look promising. I originally embarked on this journey based on the wiki page,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Gray_dyes
Based on that page I would have a 1/29 chance at it but as it turns out dye colors have dropped for me which are not even in the grey spectrum list. It almost seems as though it has a chance to drop any dye regardless of the color spectrum. Working as intended?
I think you have a better chance at buying Rare dyes and throwing them in the forge, as that way you’ll always get a rare back and Abyss has just as much chance to come back as any other rare dye, it’s not like Dusk, whereas it’s a rare item. It’s just a colored dye made valuable by the market because everyone wants black.
Not a bad suggestion! At least I am trading rares for rares instead of using mats for a rare which often results in a common. These dye kits need to be reworked or just removed from the game.
Wow! No one?! For a dye that costs as much as 18g I would have thought someone would have attempted this.
$10000 question, who has farmed for the Abyss Dye via creating Unidentified Gray Dye (Rare) and actually was lucky enough to receive it? How long did it take you? How many tries?
Initially, my goal was to create these until I received Abyss and while I can afford to buy it from the TP, I just can’t justify the cost for just a dye. Unfortunately the random chance of getting it seems to make this whole practice a waste of time.
It seems to me that the ingredients and effort required to make the Unidentified Gray Dye (Rare) is outweighed by the fact that it most often still just drops common dyes. I would love to see a change that with every tier you move up ( Unidentified Gray Dye (Rare), Unidentified Gray Dye (master), it will remove the lowest tier from the previous. I.E if you craft a rare spectrum dye (uncommon-rare) or master spectrum (common-master), etc.
So if you sought out to obtain Abyss Dye via Unidentified Gray Dye (Rare), let us know how it turned out for you.
I have recently invested in a three monitor setup for Guild Wars 2 with Eyefinity support. While it has changed my MMO experience forever, it isn’t quite there yet. It has been noted that there are UI issues whereas the Map is forced to the far right monitor and chat to the far left in addition cut scenes are cut off. All these issues I can live with but from what I understand these issues do not exist if you are using NVIDIA 3D Vision whereas Eyefinity still suffers. I have heard reports that 3D Vision users, have their map and chat on the center screen, not sure about cut scenes.
Is there any fix incoming to address these issues with Eyefinity?
As a side note, I have been waiting for over 10 years to be able to play a multi-monitor setup with my favorite MMO and the experience is beyond words and well worth the wait. Going forward tri-monitor support will be a minimum requirement for any MMO I play. Thank you Anet for taking the time to support and implement this epic feature!
- by far – Player housing!!! I have grown tired of playing MMO’s without this feature and for me to commit to game long term, I need a place to hang my hat.
- Contested dungeon with PvP (Darkness Falls from DaOC). Where you have to clear players out via PvP before it is safe for PvE. In a sense this would in turn adds an element of world PvP.
- Mounts (not flying). I would love to see a mount system similar to what is planned for Archeage where your mount has skills/utility(storage) and can die.
- Ship building/naval warfare. With as much effort that Anet has put into underwater exploration/battle it seems to be a good fit.
There are two different “on kill” sigils, one is on kill stacking effect and the other is on kill. These two will stack (in my case Bloodlust and Rage) but two on kill stacks will not. I am sure there are exception but my general rule is you cannot mix two of the same effect, i.e. two on kill stacking or two on kill.
I am surprised no one has mentioned our new leap finisher Magnetic Grasp. While I was delighted that I have a new finisher for my combos, half the time it’s animation hangs in a charge state thus not finishing the combo. One would think this would have been fixed prior along with tuning the ability. It is bad enough to try to get all my finishers down before Ring of Fire drops but this not only prevents the finisher from completing, it puts you right under the mob unable to control your character until the animation unbugs which often gets me killed.
Onyx can be farmed on Earth Ele’s in all three Orr zones, Correupted while less still has Ice Elementals which are farmable and Charged in both Malchors and Cursed Shore Orr but nothing for Destroyer.
Yes it is so unfair for poor people like you, people how are trying to get the second cheapest lodestones. Anet definetly needs to add more ways to farme those so that they can get even cheaper …
Please before you start whining that Anet should make things easier for you think about what consequences that would have. All Lodestones you mentioned here are more expensive than Destoryer Lodestones even so you can farm them. That means supply/demand on those items is way lower than it is for Destroyer Lodestones. So what you are asking is basicly to increase the supply even more …
You should also consider what is efficient. Let us imagine you could farm them as “easily” as Charged Lodestones, then why would you want to farm them when you could go farm Charged Lodestones, sell those and buy almost 3 Destoryer Lodestones with the profit? That would mean that if you where to farm them directly it would take you 3 times as long, so why exactly would you want to do that?
IMHO if you are farming Lodestones to sell for a profit, you are wasting an incredible amount of time and there are far more efficient ways to make gold than uber low drop rate lodestones.
All my point was that there needs to be a place outside dungeons that these drop off end game mobs like most other Lodestones. I am sorry if that cuts into your precious profit but that is what happens when you paint yourself into a corner on generating gold. A smart farmer will have many ways to make gold so that your world doesn’t fall apart when the slightest change is made.
So again, why does an END GAME ingredient only drop off level 66 mobs?
Luckily I only need 20 but even at that it is rather painful. Just give me a place where I can farm solo on level 75-80 mobs and it would be a step in the right direction. Due to drop % being penalized due to the mobs in Mount Malestrom being level 66 it adds even more difficulty in farming these.
Onyx can be farmed on Earth Ele’s in all three Orr zones, Correupted while less still has Ice Elementals which are farmable and Charged in both Malchors and Cursed Shore Orr but nothing for Destroyer.
(edited by steelwind.1054)
What?? Destroyer drops from level 80 dredge, you get loads of them doing fractals and WvW. Meanwhile to get Charged there’s only a couple of mobs in Orr that drop them, and they only spawn when your server controls a random temple on the other side of the map (never).
Actually Destroyer Cores/Lodestones do not drop from Dredge but rather in the Heavy Miner Bags they drop. In real world practice from spending many many hours farming these, the bags have a lower drop rate than the level 66 mobs in Mount Malestrom. I would prefer being able to farm them directly off mobs like Charged and Onyx after clearing a temple rather than how it is now.
To make matters worse Mount Malestrom doesn’t even have the correct mobs up half the time but rather oozes and fire eles so what I am left with is dungeons and extremely rare bag drops.
Just to be clear, this topic is mainly related to farming outside dungeons and mobs that drop them directly not random chance in a bag. I am aware of “Heavy miner bags” dropping them but in real world practice they are just as rare in the bag as they are dropping off low level mobs in mount malestrom.
Since I have farmed other core/lodestones, the difference is great to me. I was able to farm earth eles in Cursed shore for Onyx and Corrupted in Frostsound all of which have level 75+ mobs that drop them.
It seems to me as one of the temples upon unlocking should have mobs that we can farm for these like other lodestones/cores.
For those that choose to farm these get shafted compared to other types because of the lack of farmable locations. What we have is Mount Malestrom and SE (not a viable farming option due to low drop rate). Mount Malestrom mobs are only level 64-67, so based on what I know on drop chances, they are a much much lower chance than other lodestones/cores since there is no 75+ mob in the game that drops them in the world. All other cores/lodestones at least have a place to farm these in end game zones even if it means they only spawn after clearing a temple or event.
Anet can we please have somewhere else to farm these in an 75-80 zone? I just don’t understand having end game item materials only dropping in a single non-end game zone.
This tired straw man again (the whole “You want everything for nothing” nonsense)? Really? Haven’t we moved passed simply regurgitating this same ridiculously pathetic straw man yet?
If you love grinding so much, WoW exists. Go play it instead of trying to ruin this game.
I think you have it backwards my friend. I am an advocate for keeping the game as it is including the grind for the best gear. It seems to me as you are the one that wants to change/ruin the game by making everything easy to obtain. For goal oriented players like myself, I don’t care how hard it is to obtain as long as I can work toward that goal. Without long-term goals where is the incentive?
And I welcome it with open arms!
I just don’t understand the complaints from players about having to grind for their gear. At least GW2 allows you to obtain the best gear in the game without having to schedule your life around being able to raid. I would rather grind for my gear at my own pace and schedule then have to rely on 24 other people to both show up and perform for me to have a CHANCE at my goals. There are plenty other games for people with the “I want it now” and “with little effort” mentality.
GW2, the MMO for games “with a life”
What as given me the most success is gearsets. The gearset I wear is based on the competency of the group with a goal of wearing as much Berserker/Ruby as possible. In a stellar group, exotic Berserker armor w/dps runes and Exotic Ruby jewelry. For the average group Berserker armor and Exotic Toughess jewelry. Finally for hard encounters or terrible groups exotic Valk/Knight armor (with Rune of Earth set bonus) with exotic Toughness rings.
Obviously this takes a lot of effort to gather all this gear but imho is the best way to be flexable based on what is needed and in the end I end up surviving as well as anyone else.
Well that confirms my suspicions! Awesome thank you I can deal with a 1 min cd for tasty tasty haste but if I had to choose bloodlust>speed but bloodlust main hand with speed in offhand would be absolutely ideal!!!
I thought that only applied to “on kill effect stacks”? Since sigil of speed isn’t a stacking sigil, does that apply?
I have yet to find anywhere that states you cannot use sigilsl in both main and off hands.
Hey all I am trying to find out if these two sigils share the same Cd? I know “on kill stacking effects” do not stack but Sigil of Speed is “on kill” not “on kill stacking effect”. So based on my research they should stack since they are different effect types.
If anyone has a definite answer, it would be much appreciated.

Regardless of that the number crunchers say in every MMO I have played, my preference was to focus on haste (quickness). Since the stat does exist in this game, I wonder if ANet will ever allow us to stack or have quickness stats added in upgrade slots?
Will the new infusion slot have the ability to add quickness? It seems that most MMO’s add this over time but I hope that is something I can look forward to in the future. I would love nothing more that trying my Ele with a full quickness set!
Your world design and immersion is second to none and to me by far the best thing about GW2 is the impressive VAST world and all it’s hidden gems.
I would suspect guild halls/housing will not be included in a free update but rather a paid expansion and rightfully so due to the resources required to implement such a feature. So my hopes are it is included in the first paid update and I hope that is sooner than later because I am getting tired of waiting for MMO’s to implement this feature. Hearing “at some point in the future” is no longer acceptable when other MMO’s are either releasing with it or adding it now.
I have a 80 D/D Ele and a 60 Scepter/focus/GS Mezmer both specced for DD not condition damage. Granted they are geared a bit different my ele is Berserker geared (pow, pricision, crit) and my Mezmer is Valkyre (Pow, precision, vitality). While my Mezmer has a number of good AOE options (mainly with GS) it doesn’t hold a candle to the dps output and AOE of my Ele. On the flip side, my Ele cannot last nearly as long as my mezmer.
They both obviously play much differently, my Mezmer during a fight my goal is generally to get up three phantasms as soon as possible and pull as many as I can while maintaining the three phantasms and grouping up as many as I can to AOE them down with GS. Whereas my Ele pulls smaller groups but burns them down twice as fast. Larger groups require more attunement swapping and far more footwork to stay alive.
Obviously a lot changes when you use different weapon combos and gear.
After completing two full sets of cloth exotics, I have found using the Master Salvage kit for all cloth and scraps give better results. While it is a bit of investment to buy Master kits, if you only use them for cloth it isn’t too bad. It seemed to me at least as I get more Gossamer scraps from master kits rather than lower kits.
Well the TP is web based so one could say that it is built to provide this functionality so a mobile TP is nearly a guarantee but the question is when.
Btw – IGN made a pretty decent GW2 app that is on the app store. It has great maps, full wiki and character builder. Better than nothing.
I have made this mistake too many times to mention but last night was my last straw. Currently if you are composing mail and if you are filling out the name of the recipient and you target anyone else near you during that time it will instantly replace the name you are typing with whoever you happened to click on with your mouse. This isn’t a big problem if there is no one else around but if you are standing at a crafting station, simply using your mouse to free look while accidentally targeting someone else will cause you to inadvertently send that mail to whomever you happened to target instead of whom you are actually sending that mail to.
Last night I did this exact same thing while sending mats for an entire exotic to a stranger, unfortunately this time I did not see whom I accidentally clicked on so I never knew who I sent it to nor is there any way to determine this and unfortunately the recipient took advantage and kept what I sent.
ANET, please give us the option to disable name fill based on targeting, this is a crippling feature.

Housing would be nice but there are many other things that need fixing first. I’d rather see pvp, wvw, class balance etc. addressed first.
I think Blizzard has stated this exact same thing for what 8 years now?
I was also thinking along the lines of Archeage as well whereas you can look at the map and find designate parts of each zone where you can build a house. This way it is controlled and landscapes aren’t cluttered everywhere with random houses.
Also housing is one of the biggest gold sinks that can exist so it can be extremely profitable for Anet.
What I am saying is that there is generally two types of housing, instanced and non-instanced. One of the arguements for instanced housing is generally due to lack of space in the world but I do not feel that is the case with GW2, there is a ton of space and the world is huge. So I feel non-instanced housing could work here.
In all honestly any housing is better than no housing as long as I can customize and build my exterior and interior as well as housing should also bring utility not just fluff. Which means the ability to add vendors, storage, or portal.
My understanding is that housing has nothing to do with the home instance and they will be developed separately but there has been very little info so who knows. I just feel that Tyria is large enough to support full blown non instanced housing so I can hope.
