P8Z68-V
GTX 560 Ti
return your copy of GW2, your comp is not made for this.
i can touch my aftermarket copper fin when E3 is running under WvW, can yours do that, no?
i choose E3 cuz it was cheaper than i7 at time for $250. i’m not an overclock-holic and it performs on-par with i7 yet offer the price of i5 back then.
i stick with x64 of win7, reason that is lots of slim/optimization build is done and can be found on the net (provided that you have a legit copy then can do whatever to suit YOUR needs and not for re-sell purpose). which cuts down hidden bottlenecks and boggy service or bogus app. but not prone to have one be installed due to different user-habits.
burning a CD is good for building portfolio assets but i’d rather tuck it in a USB disc just because it lives longer against any physical damage. and USB disc has much bigger storage compare to a CD.
no SSD? and optical drive only for one-time use? i’d rather invest it into 16GB USB drive.
stick with x64 win7, your mouse and hand will thank you.
so you are going to overclock with that i7, but how far can you go with air-cool?
you’d better off with E3-1230v2 and upgrade to GTX 670.
save your dough to better use.
get rid of Local.dat under \Documents\Guild Wars 2 and let client rebuild it.
processor makes huge difference in WvW battle.
upgrading to x64 from x32 won’t cost you single dime.
Except an entirely new processor…
why’s that?
then tweak more to get smooth FPS.
not all i7 are equal, most people are disappointed with their first-gen i7, where Sandy and Ivy-i7s are performing better on same clock speed.
yes, loading time is same, the game itself dynamically reads map data from that big chunk of .dat file.
processor is being x64 capable, not motherboard.
such FPS is only possible with Minecraft graphic add-on, LOL.
upgrading to x64 from x32 won’t cost you single dime, it is included in windows package.
so be it, if you don’t want to accept the fact.
no game for you, too bad.
the future is x64 OS, despite the client is x32 based. that’s the only way to run Guild Wars 2 well.
welcome to the future.
lol, an overclocked donkey is still an…well, a donkey.
first-gen i7 plus an laptop. won’t give you pretty FPS.
if you want Guild Wars 2 to be portable, we have to install it onto our brain. :LOL
until then, a desktop is recommended.
laptop is not meant to be use as net gaming.
couldn’t agreed more, in fact, there are people who purposely “trim” down win7 to enjoy more gaming experience. which helps to elimate possible interference caused by unnecessary service/apps.

100/number of cpu threads x 2.5 = lowest % usuage when bottleneck can occure
100/number of cpu threads x 3 = highest % usuage when bottleneck can occure.I.e intel i5 2500k (4 cores 4 threads)
100/4 × 3 = 75
Intel i7 2600k (4 cores 8 threads)
100/8 × 3 = 37.5
supplement/ or correction if you will
if Guild Wars 2 uses HT then above condition applies,
but from what most of us sees from other thread is that’s not the case.
so the number only applies to number of cores that Guild Wars 2 uses.
which is no greater than 4 physical cores.
back to OP
according to Tom’s current CPU chart, a AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 ghz
is equivalent to Intel’s Sandy i3-2100. i’ve been personally used an such identical processor and found not enough hoursepower to roam under heavy WvW fights.
after upgrade to E3, the current processor signed under my sig, can handle the number of the crowd increased by 3 times more before FPS drops.
in short, there might be some issue on optimization front, but using Sandy i5 and later greatly improves Guild Wars 2 experience in WvW fights.

flash interface only sounds good on paper, but fail in actual practice.
known bug, 2D and 3D don’t always go well together, its up to Arenanet for fix.
your GTS 240 is done, also underpowered even if it does go through.
there’s a e-sata casing out there, but that’s just my 2-cents.
theory that once you take up 70% of total available space, SSDs tend to chop down performance.
‘course, you can have two drives working side-by-side. larger one for OS and smaller one for game app, but i don’t find that making any sense.
besides, SSD are much faster and use less power then mechanical drive. i’d have a large capacity drive, say 2.5" 7200-rpm 500GB when it comes to storage. just to taking advantage of both worlds.
i would use largest SSD you can find and use as OS and game app.
leave that 90 gig one on auction house, or convert it to portable drive.
its a laptop, and never will have good performance at WvW, done.

you could tone down your graphics setting to compensate for smooth framerate.
starts with auto-detect and work from there.
also, an SSD helps at all front if you don’t have one already.
we all spent a fortune in order to enjoy best Guild Wars experience as possible. and key here is to shop smart.

everything, period.
its a laptop, you bought it, get along with it.
amazing damage to your pocket, indeeed.
double that and you’ll get E3-1230v2, which is totally superior.
GTX 260 had its glory, time to move on.
i now shelve it for backup.
dragon fights are hard, but your processor made it harder. an underpowered processor, regardless their clock speed, which is irrelevant, will have hard time chewing all the data.
your notebook’s GPU is toast, Chris.
or you could try downclock it.
Ambient Occlusion —- off
Guild Wars 2 constantly reads data from the disk to reduce memory footprint (correct me if i’m wrong), therefore by moving game data on to SSD greatly improves performance.
SSD and defragging don’t go together, doing so will kill it in long process.
ps, kudos to the dev team, dynamic post editing now works as it should.
slot matters, most motherboard have 2nd/3rd PCI-E x16 slot reserved for SLI/triple SLI/ CrossFire cards at narrower lanes (@x8 mode or even x4).
check your manual.
overclock wouldn’t save any money, it all end up in your hydro bill.
call me an Intel fanboi all you want, i’m all favor when it comes netgame.
at least I made the right move.
back to OP, those two processors are just literally same class.
case closed.
not surprised, notebooks are meant for this kind of beating.

i just respect Intel for performing better in terms of massive player clashing, aka WvWvW. no mean to disrespect AMD in any ways.

not surprising. try overclock, get rid of core park of your processor.
heck, even borrow an Sandy or Ivy- i5 if you’re so desperate.
my points is, Intel processor performs better when it comes to net games where large crowd is involved.

list your spec.
even better. get a new system, problem solved!

where – have you experienced change in performance.
when – was the time you feel the change.
what – did you do to counter the problem. ie. settings

can’t afford to have i7-3770k. so i get E3-1230v2.
its new, just came out 2nd quarter this year (2012)
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Xeon/Intel-Xeon%20E3-1230%20v2.html
don’t mind the lack of internal graphics core, i’ve got bunch of card lying around as backup.
kept no record of how performance gained over i3-2100, but improves alot.
still glad that old z68 board can take E3 with just BIOS update.
time to move on and get a new system. apparently, Guild Wars 2 are in favor of Intel Ivy-processors if you want no issues in all front, except in WvWvW which still gets acceptable frame-rates under huge crowd.
and don’t think you can get by with that 6150SE either.

i would make another move to E3-1230v2, glad i did, so should you.
not just you’re using an outdated graphics card, but your processor could make an impact as well.
you have weak processor to start with, and no, the x2 4400+ won’t help either.
dig around the posts and you will find newer processor yields better result, don’t get confused with “speed myth” —- newer CPU/GPU gives you better performance and steady FPS.
