I’m also a returning player who has a HUGE stack of Tomes Of Knowledge. I think I have enough to boost 2 characters to max level, near instantly, if they still work like they did.
My question is, being that content scales to level, should I just boost to max then run the storylines for rewards/gear/lore? Or should I just level the old fashioned way?
Have any mechanics changed so that my above ideas are complete garbage in today’s day and age? :P
Maybe she thinks she’s found Waldo?

No?

I’ll see myself to the door!
While I’d agree that in most cases a movable/moddable UI would be nice, I rather like GW2 simplistic UI. It’s aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, and functional. This is the only game where I do NOT feel like I have to mod the UI to use it.
That’s my 2c worth at any rate.
I was on the “let’s have mount!” train when the game was first released. Every other game has them, so why not GW2?
Well, after playing a good bit at release, and then off and on the last few years, I got off that train. The fast travel system with waypoints makes mounts completely unnecessary. Mounts would only serve as a way to flaunt gold/gems, and crowd important NPCs.

As a new/returning GW2 player, I enjoy the new Lions Arch. It is bright and vibrant, and easier to navigate. It’s also laid out with amenities bunched in ways that are useful.
While I did also enjoy the original version, I loathed the destroyed version we had for so long. To me, anything is better than that hole.
Long story involving an angry mob, an oak tree, and some rope.
Reported for reporting the report!
Zealous folks like this always make me chuckle.
I tried GW2 at launch. I loved everything about the game. The art, the sound, the dynamic combat, the personal story, all of it. I drifted away after getting to level 80 due to real life obligations. I took a break from all MMOs and games.
As a 30 year old with a full time job, and a wife and toddler at home, I find GW2 to be a refreshing MMO to come back to. I can devote the last hour or two of my busy days, after the chores are done and the kid is in bed, to adventuring in game. I don’t feel pressured to grind my alts to 80 just to be part of some gear treadmill.
The new leveling features are great! Having just come back to GW2 they add a refreshing experience to my leveling. The new leveling splash screens and rewards list give me a sense of accomplishment. I didn’t used to get than previously when leveling. Heck, there were times when I didn’t even notice that I leveled under the old system.
I’ve also started PvP for the first time in any MMO. I’ve found an active WvW guild and it’s AMAZING. I’ve hated PvP in every MMO I’ve tried (EQ, WoW, Rift, the list goes on.) I love that I can run with a huge group to PvP or I can branch off and capture resources and solo players on my own terms.
I’ve very glad to have come back into the community. I know lots of folks are upset by recent updates and that’s fine. Everyone can have their own feelings. That’s the great thing about GW2, there’s no messy subscription to cancel or worry about. If you don’t like where the game is now, take a break, try something else out.
I guarantee you’ll be back. We’ll keep the lights on for ya.
TC is one of the most active WvW realms, locked in eternal struggle with Jade Quarry and Blackgate. This is why it’s always full.
Good advice. I mainly like exploring and questing. I have started by exploring the changes ankitten ow looking into crafting.
Hey folks,
I have just come back to GW2 after a year. RL had my hands full for quite some time. My question is, where would you start back up? I have an 80 necromancer that has basic level 80 gear. I have 2 level 10 alts and just rolled a fresh character to feel out the game again.
I have followed up on the lore and events that have happened but wanted to ask the community their thoughts on the matter. What would you do in my shoes?
Cheers!

Looking for:
Active, mature and friendly guild to help me get back into GW2. I play 9pm-1am most nights of the week in the eastern US timezone.
Interests:
PvE/leveling

PvP
If this fits the bill for your guild, send me a PM or in game message!
I’ve just come back to GW2 after a long break. Where do I start?
I have 1 level 80 Norn Necromancer and several alts around level 10. I’ve followed some of the events via the website and forums but feel lost as to what to do. My guild is no longer active so I have no in game connections to give me the rundown.
I am debating finishing world completion on my main character or leveling an alt to “get back into” the game.
I welcome the communities thoughts and/or suggestions.
Photo one is the entrance to a spectacular puzzle, the second a shadowed gully leading to centaur controlled lands.
Being new to GW, the current holiday is quite impressive. I love the immersion factor in LA. My hope is whatever they do for the winter holiday it matches and/or surpasses the Halloween event(s)!
I’d really like snow accumulation! Have to wade through lots of snow, maybe even a snow maze?
I wish you could de-map the CTRL+function = paste to chat option. LCTRL is my Ventrillo/voice comms hotkey and often while mid fight, I spam a combo of abilities into the currently active chat and get locked out of chat for a few moments.
I’m fine with the temp lockout but I wish I could remap that one key. >.<
Well thought out ideas! +1
An expansion with Cantha and Monks would be cool.
There’s a thread for discussion / feedback on the FOV change testing. Hang on, I’ll find it…
there it is…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/FOV-Field-of-View-Changes-Beta-Test/first#post551634
Sweet, thanks! I now hope my office closes early for the storm so I can check it out before we lose power…
Was there a fix since last night?
It’s on the upper left bar where you find the hero tab, trading post, contacts etc.
Hm, I will try a bit more elevation. I will also check the other cores. I face-palmed when I realized that my readout was defaulted to show a generic reading and not core specific. Thanks!
Yes Ethics that’s the one I was talking about, I do t know what happened to my link so thank you.
Thanks everyone for this feedback it has been really helpful. You have given me some good info to work off of.
@therantventure: I saw an asus at future shop which was only around $600 and the memory card was 2gb however I read something about the 2gb being a useless extra feature because the architecture of the card wasn’t up to par (so basically the 2gb was to get you to pay more). Is this a legitimate issue i should watch out for? I’m not familiar with the term “architecture”.
Architecture can be an issue that boils down to bottlenecks. My wife has the K53 ASUS with the nVidia 610m 2GB card and it runs great! It runs a bit better FPS than mine and runs at less load. I run with an nVidia 540m 1GB.
So the short answer to your question is “sometimes”. If the channel bandwith between the GPU and the CPU can’t handle the data flow, it stops up and hurt performance. I haven’t found this to be the issue with the ASUS.

That’s a souped up version of my current Targus chill mat. Methinks I will give that one a try.

The only time I’ve seen that is when the GPU failed due to thermal lode. Games would artifact (3D items ‘smear’ across the screen) and 2D items got that rainbow grid.
I tried re-installing drivers and even the OS. Nothing fixed it. If there is a spare card laying around, try that one to isolate the issue to the GPU.
The laptop always sits on a chill mat and the CPU/GPU are not running at max output. They run tandem usually 50-60% usage. I don’t have performance issues per se, it just runs hot unless I dial back the FPS to the 30 mark.
I’m at work and can’t log in. >.<
I’ve noticed while playing GW2 that the temp of my motherboard runs significantly warmer than the CPU, GPU and RAM. If the GPU and CPU are running 140F (ish), the motherboard will be running 180F+. The higher my FPS, the hotter it gets. I find I have to use the limiter set to 30 to keep the thing from cresting over 200F.
Is this caused by a bottleneck between the CPU and the GPU?
I play on an ASUS A53 series laptop. Intel i7 2.0Ghz, nVidia 540m 1GB, 4GB DDR3 on Win7. I know laptops run warm in general. Could it be transferred thermal load from the CPU and GPU?

Death Shroud now fits it’s name more accurately. During Death Shroud, the player has an unremovable, exponential health degeneration to their main HP bar.
Oh I like this one. How about the abilities?
Life Blast
Lose 5% of your health, heal the enemy for 5% of their health
Dark Path
Apply blindness to yourself for every step you take
Doom
Player takes the fetal position and yells “Not the face!”
Life Transfer
Drains your health and restores the health of foes
EDIT:
@Dibrom, if it’s inconsistent between classes, as you claim (and I haven’t tested it so I don’t know), then I think that should be standardized across the classes, one way or another. If necro minions are considered different from all those other for balance reasons, that should be explained to us.
The reason is…
Death Shroud!"
Not the face! I just busted out laughing and startled my office cube mate!
Digging this thread, keep them coming! +1
Since you’re ‘defeated’ and can’t move around and need ‘revived’ (Suggesting that you’re not conscious), why not just fade-to-black on death so that only your open windows will display, like the map.
I like this. Fade to black and have the option to view the map with a timer, say 3-5 minutes before an auto port to nearest WP unless another is selected.
Basically a combination of all the suggestions.
Could we see a screenshot? I’ve not seen either colors.
Ah ha. I will have to re-read the AMA, I missed that part. Thanks!
GW2 is very CPU intensive so you want the best processor your budget allows. I’d recommend an i7 with 6+GB of RAM and any GPU with on-board memory 2GB+.
As far as brand, I’ve not had good experiences with Alienware. They tend to run hot right out of the box and I had one fry a CPU (I don’t mod or overclock and it wasn’t full of dust.)
I have great success with ASUS machines though.
No, no mounts. Breeding Moas to sell as mini pets, through… Moa menagerie!
This could be interesting.
I would love this feature as a big focus point of the game is armor appearance/skins.
For now I just look at the icon. A lot of items with similar icons will look the same.
I wanted to use an ö in a character name and couldn’t.
Hard to be a <name>+björn without it.
I agree that only a kitten brings MF to a dungeon. Dungeons are reliant on teamwork and cooperative play and part of that is having gear that benefits yourself AND others. MF is self only.
To play devil’s advocate though, what if a guild group wants to run a dungeon with MF gear to get drops? If MF is 100% disabled in dungeons, they can’t do this. For reasons like this, MF being disabled is unlikely.
I’ve racked my brain and haven’t come up with an acceptable fix for this. Everything I can think of leads to ‘elitist’ scenarios where people are removed from parties for ‘sub-par’ gear.
Ah, can you enlighten those of use who didn’t play GW1 as to what you’re referring to?
As far as I know there is no “unique” gear!
Charr – Uh…ascalonian ghost?
Charr have a serious obsession for those scorpion mobs. (This is a re-occuring theme in their 1-15 and 15-25 zones.) They’re always turning them into battle pets. Riding a giant scorpion would be just their style.
Ah ha! I haven’t played much of the Charr area so I wasn’t sure what a common critter was.
Each race or class could have a standard mount:
Asura – Golem
Norn – Bear
Human – Moa
Sylvari – Hound
Charr – Uh…ascalonian ghost?
What say ye?
WvW bonus…mind = blown. I completely forgot about this.
Cooh! No, Quaggen means WooooOOOOooooh!
I <3 this line. Also, the Charr “Batman” outside the LA TP.
I played them both when trying to pick a profession and I stuck with the Necro. The Necro felt more easily versatile. I actually don’t play with minions as their AI needs adjusting. I leveled into the 40s stacking condition stats and then I have transitioned over to a power/precision build now.
I love the survivability of the Necromancer. The AoE heal combined with Life Siphon and either Spectral Armor or Shadow Walk make self healing a breeze.
Staff for ranged, dagger/warhorn for melee.
If underpopulation was an issue a server merger would be a valid option. Take the lowest pop servers in pairs and condense them into one new server to increase the playerbase.
The title cut off but I am going to fill in “…for me and a friend?”
The answer according to the EULA is no. You can not share accounts.
You don’t get XP from kills in the starting area, IIRC.
Now you don’t I believe. You used to though.
@Josher many salutes to you!!!
Seems like people have misunderstood me, I don’t want a WOW clone, as I said I am kinda tired of WoW, thats why I came to GW, looking for something different…
Ah ha. Well, framed like Josher put it, things make more sense. I agree there are a few common features, like search functions that could be added. These will come in time. Vanilla WoW was very different from the current version.
Just because another title has it already doesn’t mean it should ship will all subsequent games of similar ilk. ANet as a great foundation to build a behemoth title. It will just take some time. I find the question to be: Are you (players) willing to give that time to them?
Neither. It is perfectly possible. Stop yelling hack just because you don’t understand what was being done. Yes it does kill every enemy. That’s the point of doing it.
No, it really isn’t possible.
Look closely, he’s in the prequel area, where no one can be high enough level to drop a turret.
You used to be able to do that, in the first couple of weeks. You could level quite a bit in that area. They patched it out.
OP, could you clean that up a bit so we can help? I’m a bit lost. Is there an issue with engineer turrets not working right?
Btw, ‘turent’ took me back to my early EVE Online days where folks commonly called “turrets” by that misspelling. Made me smile
ALL the things!
I’d suggest saving for new items that come out down the road.
