In a multiple-monitor set-up, the gliding bar appears on the far right monitor instead of the center one with the rest of UI, making it difficult to see.
There could be an event where you literally throw gold at the keep gates to break them down. Or there could be an event where every enemy player in the game kills you in one hit, that would really make things competitive.
I’d rather not have scum in my game. Ban them forever.
The shatter traits are actually outrageously good. I use the “blind causes confusion, block and evade causes blind” and the “shatters blind” and the “shatters cause torment” and “shatters cause confusion” traits, and holy moly is it effective! With four shatters and scepter to work with, you can drop 15 confusion and 8 torment super fast and your opponents quickly melt.
It’s definitely a bit overpowered. I sat inside SM inner through about ten minutes of enemy sweeping, and was able to maintain like 90% stealth uptime the whole time and never got caught. Outright ridiculous, the uptime is too high!
I think the “blinds inflict confusion” and the “shatters inflict blind” skills really save condi shatter and make it good. 1 less torment is applied per illusion now, but 1 blind and 1 more confusion per illusion are applied instead.
I feel like it’s got the survivability of way, way old PU builds (before they added extra boons to water down the aegis and protection uptime) because of all the blind spam, and has pretty much the same offensive capabilities for a roamer as MtD pre-nerf, since you’re really just trading torment for confusion and blind. The torch phantasm doing burning/fury now is just icing on the cake of an already-strong build.
Decry it all you want, I’ll be in wvw inflicting 15 stacks of confusion instantly (scepter#3 + cry of frustration) and watching thieves autoattack twice and die, or die when they try to use their interrupt to stop scepter#3, lol.
If you follow the link, the whole document looks very fake. It was also uploaded to PasteBin in December, so if it were real, you would have heard about it two months ago.
Eviscerate has a pretty long windup animation. You failed to stunbreak and dodge during that time. Take responsibility for your own play, don’t look for excuses immediately.
Asuras look goofy pretty much all the time, no matter what they are doing. I rolled mine specifically for the goofiness. I feel like the animations are working as intended.
I play without a built-in swiftness, so I keep a focus in my inventory solely for the buff. Also for pulling people off the walls in WvW.
Too low? No way, my scepter #2 hits for 11k – 14k depending on corruption stacks. It’s my single strongest attack by a huge margin.
PU/condi is like a weird sort of bunker build that relies on active use of stealth, short-range teleports, blocking, and protection to stay alive instead of having a huge health pool and huge armor. Your best bet is to treat it like any other bunker: ignore it and keep moving to your destination unless you really want to waste a lot of time. As a PU/condi myself, nothing makes me feel more defeated than when someone just walks away and I have to just go find something else to do.
What wvw abilities should I invest in? I’m a blackwater mesmer in full rabid exotics. So far I have:
4 supply mastery
1 arrow cart mastery
9/10 guard defense
After I finish guard defense, what should I pick up? I’m too squishy for rams, so I was thinking of finishing arrow cart mastery, and getting ballista mastery too.
Any tips?
Press H, double click focus. Press 4. Double click original weapon to re-equip, press H to close window. Takes about 1 second total, that’s what I do.
I hate this ^
When you’re in combat, and getting focussed, try getting your weapon back.
Besides, even if you are just trying to get somewhere and there is no threat of combat (completely unrealistic in pve/wvw) there are times when you’re without a speed buff.
Stupid focus speed buff won’t even stack with itself…lame.
Yeah I know, it sucks but it’s better than running with weirdo runes like Traveler, especially if you get a lot of power from your runes like PU/condi and Perplexity runes.
In combat mobility isn’t a problem for me since I use a staff. Phase retreat always moves you away from your target, so you can move very fast as long as you target someone chasing you, without needing Swiftness. Not everyone can do this though since Staff use is rare outside of PU/condi builds.

Open pve: pu/condi blackwater
Dungeons: phantasm
Wvw: pu/condi blackwater
The 4 piece bonus and 6 piece bonus of Rune of Perplexity are supposed to add 15% confusion duration each, for a total of 30%. Currently, neither bonus works, and a character using Perplexity runes does not have increased duration at all. It does not work for character skills or for the confusion proc applied by the runes themselves.
I know Perplexity runes are pretty hated right now, but as a Mesmer, that confusion duration was the big selling point for the runes, since I have more reliable confusion skills of my own.
Mesmer is one of the hardest classes and warrior is probably the easiest. This is the problem you’re having. It has nothing to do with the mesmer’s strength as a class and everything to do with your skill. Practice more and you will have better luck.
For zergs this build is still useful. Veil is great for zerging obviously, and Mass Invis is sweet for rezzes since it stealths the downed player too.
For aoe zerg damage I use interrupts with perplexity runes to apply aoe confusion. Chaos Storm is great for this, and I also carry a focus in my backpack, and the pull from focus can also interrupt lots of people too.
I think the nerf they are referring to is that traited duelist no longer is 100% physical projectile combo chance. People were dropping a null field + duelist for a ton of confusion stacks.
You say I shouldn’t ask you how to play, but then in the last line of your opening post you wrote “any thoughts” and so I’m giving you my thoughts, which are that you are using the wrong skills, traiting badly and will be a dead weight.
This.
Healers aren’t sought after in this game. The damage you take is avoidable, and everyone has a powerful personal heal if they screw up.
Bringing a healer in a group in this game is like bringing a clunky old landline-style phone with you on vacation, when everyone else, yourself included, is already bringing their cellphone and their chargers. Your big old phone is unnecessary, silly, and taking up space that you could pack more vacation stuff, and if you take time rearranging the furniture to access the phone jack, your vacation group is going to become impatient. They want to go to the beach, not prepare for a scenario that is literally never going to be relevant.
Similarly, people want you to DPS, not waste time overhealing them when they already have their own heals to use in the rare event that they ignore an obvious wind-up attack and forget to dodge.
I’m wondering about Sigils in sPvP. I’m not having any trouble surviving, but some of these new bunker builds are beginning to feel immovable. For that reason, I was thinking of using these Sigils for more offense, thoughts?
Staff: Earth (bleeding on crit) – Staff autoattacks are decent condi application, so I definitely continually autoattack, and the Earth sigil is here to add a tad more punch to the autos.
Scepter: Doom (poison on swap) – I feel like Scepter is a burst condi weapon, and I don’t autoattack with it too much. Doom does a tiny bit of damage, helps that burst stick and not get healed, and it provides protection from cleanses for your Torment and Confusion conditions.
Torch: Corruption (stacking condi dmg on kill) – This is a bit iffy. I’m not sure that stacking sigils are a good idea in fast-paced sPvP at all. Other options are Accuracy (flat crit chance) and Agony (bleed duration). It really throws me off that On-Crit and On-Swap sigils share a cooldown, that really needs to get fixed/changed.
Perplexity are decent but not amazing on Mesmer. They are mainly for Confusion duration and the Confusion-on-hit, instead of the super-strong Confusion-on-interrupt that other classes make excellent use of.
I’d definitely go with some sort of Condition damage runes for sure. I use Undead runes (condi dmg / toughness) in spvp and they are great! Remember, 1/3 of the boons you gain from PU go away instantly when you get hit (Aegis), regardless of duration, so I don’t think Boon Duration runes are a great idea, because it will only have a big effect on the duration of 2/3 boons.
It’s really not hard at all to press H, equip a focus, press 4, and then unequip the focus.
Every class has to do something semi-tedious for runspeed, either the same swap of weapons, or skills, or even traits, or has to press a million buttons to cast several very short swiftness buffs.
I named mine Frajad, after Fraa Jad, a wise old monk with the ability to bend reality to his whim in Neil Stephenson’s novel “Anathem”.
In Orr, healing and condition removal are important. For that reason, the Water trait line is very strong in Orr since you get so many condition removals from it. With 30 points in Water I can just leisurely stroll around Orr with a huge train of zombies in tow, removing the conditions as they come and keeping myself healed up. Your weapon choice shouldn’t matter as much as how well you can remove conditions and heal.
Ele is hard, and D/D is not meant to sit still and autoattack. Saying you deal “106 damage per hit” makes me think you’re just sitting in fire and autoattacking. You need to be constantly moving, dodging, and cycling through abilities and attunements. There are some exceptions, but generally you only want to autoattack if your damaging spells in fire and earth are all on cooldown, and you don’t need water heals, auras, or utility.
Your big bursty spells are fire 3, fire 5, earth 2, 4, and 5. Try to keep them all on cooldown (ie, use them constantly). Fire 2 and water 2 are both good damage too if you’re out of cooldowns, just don’t stand still while you channel them, practice circle-strafing to avoid some damage. When everything is on cooldown, then you can use a few autoattacks in lightning attunement.

Thank you so much for this guide, Daphoenix! Using the 0/10/0/30/30 standard build with brand-new-80 soldier gear from Orr, and I can actually roam and kill in WvW! Awesome!
Awesome video man, had my jaw dropped pretty much the entire time. Really motivates me to finish the push to 80 on my d/d
