‘Broken’, ‘bugged’, ‘substandard’ – I am not going to argue about semantics here. Maybe ‘broken’ was a bit hyperbolic since technically the PvP works. It just is no fun due to several problems which should have been addressed before release – and since that is the ultimate goal of a game, well …
Also justifying the premature release with ‘people being anxious’ does not really cut it considering the company mantra of releasing stuff ‘when it is ready’. Where was that attitude when they decided on the release date? People are also anxious now about Anet finally releasing some info about the future of PvP, but in this we have to wait – patiently.
I tell you where the difference is. 60 bucks.
MMORPGs are a perpetual work in progress, give respect for the work that’s been done. There are things you just cannot discover until there are a million + people playing your game.
The mmo community wont and probably will never understand this concept.
I honestly think most people think all devs have to do is roll their face across the keyboard to solve problems, like they already know the solution to problems as they arise.
I haven’t used Moa in over a 2 weeks now. The few times I have been moa ive maybe died 20% of them?
Maybe I’ve play different games and am experience enough to realize that the cost vs efficiency isnt that great. I have to use a 3 minute cool down to take someone out of a fight for 10 seconds, also noting that a kill on the morphed person is not guaranteed seeeing as they can still run and dodge.
Hopefully one day when people realize they arent going to nerf every single thing, but I guess everyone is a master of their class and know 100% everything that gives them trouble is OP. Yup. Atleast give anet time to fix traits and bugs before wanting to nerf the kitten outta every skill.

Shield/pistol bomb engineers are pretty good.
You die because when you take fatal fall damage you do not go into downstate you simply die. So jumping off the treb platform with less than 2k health means you will die, because you have now taken fatal fall damage.
Also fall damage does not care whether you are in combat or not, it takes precedence.
Obviously im trying to motivate them to figure out a fix like NOW and release their findings ASAP..
I spent my money on this game.. the PvE is fun.. the game looks beautiful.. There is alot of potential for endless pvp builds and class use.. Fix it fast so I dont have to go.. At least admit there is an issue and let me know a fix is coming.. I would prefer this.. hence I post clear arguments on what broken and request a fix.. FAST.
First they did already say theyll be putting up a blog post soon about all the stuff they have planned. Obviously if they could have had it out now they would have. But I guess they must run of magical pixie unicorn fairy dust that allows them to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I mean why cant they fix everything now inbetween fixing content for pve, getting rid of the botters and fixing the exploits, fixing dungeon issues, fixing bugged traits, fixing billing issues. How dare they not fix everything right now so i can have it now.
I’m ok with bad players being bad in 8v8. Theyll go to tournaments and still lose. Only problem is they come to forums and complain.
This will be forever true. A bad player is still a bad player no matter what class he plays. Many people dont seem to understand what it takes to be a good player. Looking through the thread if an necro is having a difficult time against a guardian then this proves my point.
Just remember everyone the devs do play their game including in pvp. They currently know whether or not something is as they intended or not (outside bugged traits and skills). So you can keep complaining and nothing change and rage more. Or you can just try to learn to adapt.
Cool list and all. However I just want to make you aware that the devs do actively play their game, meaning if something isnt as they envision it itll be placed in the queue to be fixed, tested, then implemented. This is in regards to classes being overpowered or underpowered.
Ergo Proxy.. The difference is there isnt 4 elementalists in every game trying to mist form auto kill me and my team every time someone gets downed and succeeding like 80% of the time.. I agree – Its a stupid mechanic in any case..

It must definitely be a bad mechanic thats why league of legends is so unpopular. I mean imagine people being able to steal your neutral creeps with one skill after you did all that work.

Thieves with shortbow can get rid of mesmer clones with cluster bomb and trickshot.
This is honestly getting frigging ridiculous everyone is literally complaining about EVERY element of pvp. I hope you all realize that. Every Map every class. Everything is either underpower overpowered or annoying. Reading all these posts are starting to make me cringe.

I havent had much trouble vs mesmers on treb honestly. Actually I hope people realize with the amount of things everyone wants nerf it actually becomes unlikely anything WILL be nerfed do the amount of cries for everything.
Its weird warrior isnt even listed in controll. Someone must not have played or played against a hammer warrior. Also ele isnt listed to have damage? Seriously?

He ran away from it and is running for kit (applies to everyone not just mesmers) leave the treb at 1 hp and kill it with retaliation.
Staff Eles also are great for destroying trebs due to them being able to be tanky while aoeing the treb.
Trebs dont destroy on retaliation. They patched that awhile ago. Also it doesnt excuse the fact that you have to waist time taking a treb to 1% and then do what stand next to it? he can still go back on it and attacking.
In the end its an unfair advantage with a handicap given by a siege weapon.
Is it really that hard to add a line of code that makes the repair kit drop if a mesmer teleports?

Are you sure? pretty sure I did it a few days ago. Also your that didnt make sense leave it at low hp then leave and the next time they fire on someone with retaliation it gets destroyed.

Warriors and thieves have to also pop high cooldown utilities if they want to pump out huge damage. Noone is going to take the full hit of 100blades or pistolwhip without haste and some for of CC.
Mesmers Blurred frenzy + mind wrack isnt burst? with Illusionary persona and 3 illusions out. You can do 3-4k from blurred frenzy + 8k mind wrack (if everything crits). So you can do anywhere from 7-12k. every 10 or so seconds.
I think itll prob be easier to just let everyone feel what they feel. If they honestly feel the way they do about overpowered underpowerd out matched professions then so be it. Its like this in every game where a majority dont feel its a learn to play issue when it is. We can all sit here and argue whether something is or isnt we’ll find out when Anet decides to take action or not, then everyone will get their answer.
But when Thieves outperform everyone’s damage by far, when Mesmers outperforms everyone’s CC and DoT and when Guardians outperform everyone’s defenses, then it isn’t a L2P issue, it is a balance issue.
First, I disagree. Pretty much every class in this game has high burst potential, each one has to set up that burst differently. Thief, does this set up more traditionally and therefore you claim it’s overpowered. But get caught in the wrong combo by a Warrior, Engineer, Elle and you’re just as dead.
Thief’s defenses tend to rely mostly on its stealths, especially when you’re talking burst glass cannons like the one you’re complaining about. This is severely a learn to play issue in particular. You shut down a thief early, it can’t get the combo it wants off, and melts.
Same with Guardian. Yes, they are heavily tanky, but to do so, they have to sacrifice most of everything else to get that way, and is most often reliant on keeping up buffs to survive. So strip off the buffs, lay down the conditions and watch him choke to death.
Mesmers are reliant on their illusion mechanics. They fuel their shatters, are a huge source of their damage output, and pretty much the core of their own defenses. You shut down the illusions, you shut down the mesmer.
There needs to be a clearer latter ranking or ‘elo’ system to start weeding out the bads and organized players/groups from one another to start truly making established tactics. Cause right now there’s a pretty big skill disparity between players and that’s causing bad feedback to be given.
I am in support against Profession Stacking in tournaments for the time being so players don’t have to worry too much about it. However many of the people who are trying to make feedback are not actually making apt and intelligent critisim. They’re just complaining., and it’s kinda saddening.
Again, hopefully Anet realizes that much of this is players ignoring obvious solutions to their problems, refusing to admit “Hey, my build is bad for this trend.” And changing until they find something that clicks well.

going 25 into inspiration isnt absolutely needed.
For the power based build the extra damage that minor trait grants on your phantams is pretty huge.
On the topic of builds, I actually run 30/20/0/10/10. I don’t think 15% additional Phantasm damage is worth sacrificing 9% damage with 3 illusions out, nor the 5% damage on inactive targets, or the 100 Power. Our damage is just as important as the Phantasm damage, especially in team fights in which random AoE kills them after their first attack.
If I want a more damage based build I run 10/20/5/25/10. I played around with the damage on inactive targets but just didn’t like it that much. I started running the chaos based build when I started with the tourneys since it gave me a lot of extra durability while not sacing “that much” damage.
I run 20/20/0/0/30 and have been having ample success with it.
Fury only overrides realiation on the duelist illusion. The berserker, warlock, and swordsman doesn’t refresh.
Also after some testing I see how you attained the stats, though im not particularly fond of the setup! The HP pool is nice but I dont think the trade off is worth it, atleast for my play style. I rather use a more offensive power/crit shatter build.
Downed states are pretty good imo. It is very easy to stomp every class if you do it quickly, except maybe a thief and mesmer but they also make it harder for their teammates to res them. Every class has access to blinds and stability and you should always be using them when stomping. I find blinds the best because they are usually instant and have short cd’s, so you can cast them while channeling the stomp. If your class doesn’t have a blind or stability then I would designate someone else to stomp.
You forgot block, distortion, or stealth
Theres some weird information in this thread. going 25 into inspiration isnt absolutely needed. I hope everyone realizes the traits are currently bugged. If you go that deep into inspiration not only do you not get the retaliation for your phantasms but you lose fury on your phantasms as a result of the regeneration. Also some people stats seem farfetched. to get 26k hp youd need a soldiers amulet or knights. Soldier doesnt have precision, so probably knights (would prob make the most sense). So using soldiers and specing far into inspiration for the extra phantasmal damge would actually kitten you very badly as your phantasms wouldnt even crit and only do subpar damage.
Some of these are suggestions, some of them are just problem identification.
1) Observer mode so we can have more informed discussions about balancing specific classes.
2) Downed States on Thief, Mesmer, Warrior, and Guardian need to be nerfed.
3) Thief, Mesmer, and Guardian have a significant advantage over all other classes. No other class fills a role these three don’t already do better / none of the roles filled are more important than simply having an extra one of these 3 classes.
4) The majority of Ranger pet abilities need to be instant, or closer to. The animations for pets right now are poor.
5) Elementalists have a few bugs I’ve written about in other threads, additionally I suggest weapons be either damage or condition damage themed, rather than having this change with attunements.
6) The amulet/jewel simpilization has significantly reduced the complexity and variety of build options for each class. I appreciate the simplicity it has brought to the ragdoll UI, but it has come at too high a cost.
NOTE: If you fix 1, 2, and 6… you could probably wait a month or two and see where things go before fixing the others. I think part of what put Mesmer/Thief/Guardian so far ahead of the pack is the fact that they work well with existing amulet options and have extremly powerful downed states.

Its also weird you didnt mention Engineers ressing themselves by premptively using elixer R. mesmer is fairly weak unless you are ignoring the real one letting him stack 20 stacks of confusion for no apparent reason. (the real one has a bright red arrow over his head, and his blink is random he could blink right into your stomp).
3. Not true. I may just copy and paste what I keep saying to everyone else. Basically no class has a straight advantage each class can do a set of things but within those set of things they can either do it better or worse than other professions. Based on utility, damage, survivability etc.
4. Havent gotten to mess around rangers enough yet.
5. Though you didnt say it many others in the thread did. Elementalists are hard to masters, and their combos are difficult to land. However given you are bulit properly they can easily nuke players down and have good survivabilty. You can watch some streamers play ele if you dont believe me.

Have atleast two people on your team with good reliable AOE damage. bomb Engineer, Great Sword Guardian, or Elementalist. They can all dispatch the mesmers clones reliably effectively ridding of quite a bit of their damage source (shatters and illusions). Make sure to Mark the real mesmers (the one dodging and casting other skills and isnt glowing bright pink).
I fail to see how this isn’t OP.
Proving the point again, blah blah glass cannon, terrible build, no hp, no toughness, should be able tokittenthem, blah blah crap.
Getting to the point, their glass cannon builds are MUCH more effective than any other glass cannon builds. ANY build they run will be much more effective than ANY other class’s build.
I’m sorry but a montage of a glass cannon DPS thief gibbing and picking off other low armor players in hot join, doesnt really do it for me. While The damage is impressive if anything so much as looks at him hell die. Not only that each time he popped several high cooldown skills to get the skills. Id rather see a footage from some tourny gameplay from start to finish.
It isnt about counter play. For those of us who play purely SPvP/TPvP there is only one conclusion: Thief/Mesmer/Guardian are simply stronger than the rest of the classes. Plain and simple. Can other classes stomp them? sure. But that doesn’t take away from the FACT that they outperform the other classes. Thief DPS > any other class , Guardian defensive capabilities > any other class and Mesmer Utility > any other class.
It isnt a question of “this class kills me, nerf them” it is a question of “if i want to reach my highest potential i currently MUST play Thief/Mesmer/Guardian in order to achieve that potential”
I can agree with you though at the same time I dont believe its that cut and dry. Even looking at utility mesmers have some great tools (timewarp, null field, illusion of life), however its utility cant just be said as the best , as necros offer great utility though is underplayed currently due to bug traits and skills. Or guardian and engineer can both be bunkers however engineers can offer more damage/condition where as guardians can offer more support/healing/boons.
I’m sure people will disagree with me and are blinded by the mentality that there has to be a best. However as Tournies become more prevalent from ladders and paid tournies. Different team comps and strategies will be brought to light. Similar to League of legends and HoN. Teams will only be able to advance by coming up with new tactics, team compositions, and such.
I had to edit this in, but I’m a bit distraught at the fact that in so many games, time and time again, players refuse to see the intricacies the developers have put into each class and the mechanics behind everything. I honestly can’t wait to see some of the strategies and profession synergy teams will come up with.
After running into several all guardian teams, I’d like to see those intricacies as well. I’m just afraid we won’t without better balance and carving some stronger weaknesses into some of these classes with far too big toolboxes of too powerful tools atm.

Cheese tactics such as these wont be as effective once teams utilize the time given to change and accomadate for this. Once necros skills and traits are fixed youll be seeing necros as a part of a counter strategty to multiple guardians.
So you swap to a condition team, and they swap to a condition removal team?
I’d rather just see professions balanced and remove the ability to change your team/builds midway. Feels a bit silly to me.
It wont be changed unless there is and option when private servers are released. Also I just noted that their condition removals are on 60s+ cooldowns 48 if specced. While necros can quickly reapply conditions even after.

Each class has a methods to enable them to finish an enemy undisturbed whether it be stealth, stability, block, blind, distortion or quickness. Most Professions have two ways to stomp a player. Thieves have blind and stealth for example.

While rank doesnt correlate to skill. A higher ranked person would atleast HOPEFULLY signify they have a general idea of whats going on in pvp.
Upon the guildwars 2 forum opening I came to check out the pvp subforum in hopes of seeing some cool stuff being posted namely strategies and the like. Instead I was faced with incessant crying for nerfs every which way and general complaints about the state of pvp. Sure these are things you’d see on any pvp forums, but as the days pass the magnitude of it has become out of hand. Its becoming a cesspool of crying and whining.
Nerfs
Everyone is crying to nerf every other class. I have yet to see a thread that simply asks for ways to counter another build or profession. Actually I may have but it was immediately drowned out by another 10 threads about nerfing another class. And before you mention heartseeker nerf, that was done because it was obnoxious. It wasnt even so much overpowered as it was just obnoxious, players using it to to cross maps as a gap closers infact just using it repeatedly. Anet tried to guide players into realizing theres more to thieves than spamming one button; by design it was meant to be a finisher they emphasized that by reducing the damage it does to higher hp targets. There are too many complaints about classes being underpowred or overpowered, when infact they should be rated on their ease of use and learning curve. Now im not saying some classes dont need a few tweaks such as necros (considering tons of their traits and skills dont work properly), but it doesnt mean certain professions suck.
I see too many players dominate on various professions. So if they’re doing well on these classses what are they doing that others cant? Well for starters dont rely on cookie cutter guides and premade builds. This teaches you nothing. Instead explore and try to see why skills work the way they do. Theres tons more things you can do but I think everyone can improve.
Pvp ladders and other goodies
GIVE THEM MORE TIME. Put down your pitchforks. They have responded many times already yet many act as if theyve kept quiet on the issue. Instead of yelling at them maybe some folks should be busy theorycrafting and better understanding the game. I can tell quite a few people dont really understand most classes and are still crying for nerfs. Take a walk in each professions shoes and atleast grasp a basic understanding of everything.
I feel bad for all the people who think mesmers are going to get nerfed because they cant counterplay. Go ahead and play mesmer too if you feel thats your only solution. Just dont expect significant nerfs.
Confusion isnt even worth while in the least. It drops quicker than bleed and is much harder to stack than bleed. Honestly complaining about confusion is silly.

That’s not necessary, I was just curious if this was intended. I don’t want anyone nerfed, I am sure there is a way to counter such players.
Good on you then. The thief is most definitely glass cannon prob not even repping more than 16k hp and 1.8k armor. He’d get blown up instantly in team fights. Judging from the skills he picked you off through stealth. In 8v8 its going to be prevalent do to the cluster of players itll be hard to see thieves initiating on you (You will see them go stealth or steal unto you to beginning their burst.) In smaller scale fight it becomes easier to deal with it given you know what to do to prepare for the encounter.
tl:dr yes it is intending.
If this is happening to often for your liking maybe you should invest in more armor/toughness. On all the pvp alts I’ve rolled I havent had problems with any other classes. Then again I’ve played/researched the other classes so I’m aware of what they are doing.
But I suppose calling for nerfs is easier then reevaluating your approach.
Its weird how people seem to be forgetting theres nothing chaining them here while they wait for the new features to be implemented. You already paid for the game there are no subscription fees. If you are that miserable go play something else in the mean time.

Honestly some of the MMO community is just deplorable. Complain when something is not here, then complain if there are bugs after its release because you wanted it right now. Then complain that they didnt better do bug fixes and didnt release it when its ready. All this is so aggravating to read. Soon companies will just stop making MMOs or games people want to play due to entitled kitten complaining every 2 seconds.

Id rather them not release things when its not actually ready, again. I mean there has rarely been a game that was perfect on release. Stuff just goes wrong when such a large influx of players come in. I mean atleast it isnt in the league of D3. Do they even have pvp yet after how many months? I still give Anet an A overall.
Ahh I didnt realize taugrim was playing GW2 I read over his guide and videos during my stay in Rift. Thought I had to leave because I didnt enjoy Rifts pvp system at all after reaching near max rank.
Its always a breathe of fresh air seeing a familiar pvpers name on forums, in side the sea of complains and qualms.
I bet 90% of the people complaining about pvp probably dont even know how to use combo fields!
Winning tournies also gives a good chance of giving you a rare item you can get slivers from.
you also sometimes get pve items from salvaging, its most likely a bug.
Never played wow never was interested. If you found WOW better continue playing wow. There really is no reason for discussion. Do you go into dunkin Donuts and tell them you are unsatisfied and would rather go to starbucks?
Only way to win vs a numbers advantage is either due to an overwhelming advantage via either player skills or initial damage on the attacks, class mechanics, OR severly outplaying the two attackers. Which I feel is fine.
You’re never going to win a 2v1, because everything is “equal” in sPvP.
There’s no way 2 decent players are going to lose to 1 player, no matter what profession.
Which iskitten Gear SHOULD matter in PvP for this reason, and many others.
Thats a terrible reason for gear to matter in pvp.
The down mechanic is balanced around 5v5 and pve. At first I found the downed mechanic infuriating, but as I did more tournies I saw its purpose became pretty clear.
Its barely been a month. They’ve been fixing problems and keeping us informed this whole time which is waaaay better than what most game companies do. Yet this isnt really enough it seems. Not only that they are soon realeasing a blog to update us on the changes being made and provide more feedback.
I think an important factor most people seem to be forgetting is there is no sub for the game thus since you’re already hear I assume you paid already. This means you are free to come and go whenever you please you can play something else you deem better til the state of the game is up to your par. The game hasnt been officially launched for a month yet. They’ve done a goood job in terms of response to their players. Most gaming companies you dont hear any word from them for MONTHS, while Anet has almost been replying daily.
seriously be patient things actually take time to be tested and implemented. Especially since they have noted many of our suggestions and have been implementing them.
