I took a break from gw2 in favor of eso because I’m fed up with the way they handle pve and pvp. Eso is great, but it has its faults to, like not being able to dye costumes unless you are a subscriber and similar annoyances. I ended up dropping about 1k usd into it for mounts and costumes etc.
Now with the expansion coming out, I returned to gw2 with my wife and we start working on the achievements and collection together in preparation for new legendaries. We do the Bloodstonefen event one time and she gets the Jade Core. I’m on my 3rd time now and still haven’t got it. Pelle at 8 times is stupdiculous.
This is a prime example of what I’m guessing will eventually be the death of gw2. They make important content such as legendary armor inaccessible without a group of 8-10 people while the content that can be done in small groups such as the achievements associated with the Jade Core are RNG based. This makes it so one person gets left behind, forced to do this once an hour event on repeat while the other person or persons need to move on in order to make continued progress.
This completely ruined our plans as me and my wife intended on spending the day playing gw2 together. This is just one example out of many common sense errors I’m seeing in gw2 design and problem-solving. If you need people to populate the map, and in a farmable resource that leaves people feeling that they made progress for their efforts instead of feeling cheated by gw2’s garbage RNG system.
In my match against the duo of rank 2 and 3, when I fought each alone I either won or forced them to retreat. Nos was necro and I tend to put a necro on the ropes fast and Anony was a thief so it’s common for them to run from 1v1s when it starts to get a little hot.
I have been legend every season that I played other than last and last season I was trying to carry but didn’t go so well. So I don’t mind a 1v1 with top ten, my issue is how fast their duo dances around and or kills my pugs leaving me to constantly fight outnumbered battles that just cannot be won.
I’m also slow moving so with a team that is constantly lost, confused, and dead, I have no chance of out rotating.
It was 19 points why do you feel the need to keep commenting. If I was the lying type I wouldn’t care enough to make up a false number. Here, the record from earlier now go call someone else a liar and please stop trying to be such an annoying “know it all” type that has to have the last word for whatever reason.
Nothing you said takes away from the main point of the post or my comments. Anet, let people fight with and against people in their own divisions please.
lol I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. You can solo queue against them with random pugs if you like. As far as queue dodging “Nos” was playing set to offline I added his partner though and tried to avoid them after. I don’t know what you consider to be a big hit but 19 was big enough for me. Thing is the fights that were easy 1v1 even 1v2 here and there but they just danced around my useless pugs who seemed to do nothing but feed.
I feel my point still stands however, don’t make people fight out of their division otherwise why even have them.

That isn’t the match maker’s fault. you need 10 people to make a match. People don’t play 24/7, they aren’t going to all be out of a match at the same time, and I bet at least 1/3 of the top 250 are alts of top 250 players. If you are in the top 250 you are going to be getting matches against top players.
The way the math works, you aren’t going to be losing 19 points unless your rating is higher than the other team’s or you haven’t been playing enough to get your deviation down.
Sounds like you are just trying to make Anets matchmakers feel all warm and loved. You are too focused on top 250 instead of the fact that pugs are being forced to fight premades 2 divisions above them. I don’t care how long a queue has to be, keep my teammates and enemies limited to people in my current division.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous, I just created a topic about a similar issue but i cant see it yet. Maybe it has to be approved 1st if not ill just have to repost. In the attached you will see nos number 2 winner last season and 2 so far this season and “kat x” in the pic is Anony number 3 atm. Thankyou Anet for this awesome matchup vs gold pugs =p

I agree, there should be no class switching after you queue up.
I think you should be able to adjust your build as you wait for the match to begin but not swap.There was a poll on this already and this position lost.
I saw the poll on getting rid of the 5 man premades but not this one, hopefully they put it back up sometime.
Last season I had matches where I won a couple 1v2s and even a 1v3 and still lost somehow. I heard that they try to force a 50/50 win loss and if you are above that by a lot, they will match you up with carrys. I believe that at least up to last season, we’ll see about this season.
Last season I could stay at 80 percent wins or higher by queueing whenever i got decay or once per day at most. If I tried to queue more than that, I would get teams like what I just described.

Wait, is it true that the current set up pushes people toward 50/50 win loss with matchmaking? I heard that was why we shouldn’t grind out our matches, that one a day or something like that doesn’t try to force you into a loss by teaming you with people that need to be carried. So it was kind of like punishing grinders, but now it looks like they will be punishing for not grinding as well?
Please tell me if we are going to be forced to grind out our matches that we won’t be pushed into a 50/50 win loss especially since having a team size of two severely limits our control over outcomes.

I’m not liking matchups at all this season. I’m being forced to carry and it’s ridiculous. I know that a lot of people complain about team ups when they are actually the problem for whatever reason, be it that their build is bad, or they just aren’t very good at fighting.
To make sure I wasn’t just fooling myself into thinking my team is bad when I’m actually doing bad myself, I challenged some of the better players from the teams that beat us to some 1v1s. I beat most in under 10 seconds and on multiple classes. I’ve lost 1v1s before but I’ve lost none doing this.
Another indicator that it’s the team ups and not me is the fact that I will often win 1v2 and even 1v3 on a point only to see that my team lost the other two even with a 4v3 or 4v2 advantage.
Okay just forget i said anything about the pip loss bug, what I was saying is that if someone rage quits or dcs i would like to be able to leave the match without dishonor instead of wasting my time
Its not a bug, its a request, i mentioned a bug but its not what the post is about. I want to be able to leave a match without penalty if there are rage quitters/dcs

I know that in ranked (most of the time) you don’t lose a pip for rage quitters and DCs, this last season I still lost pips for that once in awhile, bugged or something. In ranked and unranked though when you are down a player it makes it impossible to win most of the time and it would be nice if we could leave such a match without penalty, especially since in unranked there’s really nothing to gain by staying and its a huge waste of time.

Lube Up or Shut Up was what I was referring to (I Luck I and Evelinn), I see Lube Up or Shut Up in 2-4 man groups in my solo Qs quite often. The three man group on my side had amber and emerald and were horrible.
My point here is just that not only are the division match ups extremely uneven against me,(very bad luck I assume) but as a solo Q player having to go against people in premades is frustrating to say the least. The lower division premade on my side just went and died constantly leaving me to fight 3-4v1 which is impossible unless the opponents are horrible. I had to entertain myself during that painful match by killing a choice target before i could get zerged down eachtime.
Like “I Luck I”. he had irritated me in the past so he was one of my targets that match. I went in spiked him down almost instantly and then ran from 3 other guys as long as I could, but not much could be done more than that with the players I had on my side.
And again the match after, still uneven. Anet why cant rubys fight rubys diamond fight diamond etc etc if not, at least give us a diamond if they have one.

emerald.. you could prob afk every match and still make it out of emerald eventually, the biggest problem is this god awful matchmaking in divisions where you can lose tiers. Just had 2 3 rubys and an emerald against 3 rubys a sapphire and a diamond. im curently ruby working my way back to legend but unless anet makes a build that can carry 4 people that may as well be afk, im not sure what to do. 3 revs 2 guards against thier higher teir guild premade anet hates solo q they need to let go of that
Three times over the last few days I’ve lost pips on losses caused from disconnects, I thought that wasn’t supposed to happen. That’s nothing compared to the losses I’ve gotten from afkers. I repeatedly get grouped with lower tier division players that have no idea what they are doing and have to fight against my own tier and higher.
Its getting old Arena Net. I invested a lot of time and money into this game, but you made it so absolutely ridiculous for Solo Qers. Especially ones with bad luck. The matches aren’t even fun.. I mean losing is one thing but a long boring loss where you get 4-5v1’d on repeat, who enjoys that?
I’ve had a love for guild wars since year 5 of gw1 when I 1st started playing, season by season that love is fading more and more. I don’t like to have to rely on other people reason being is the only thing they seem to not fail at is helping the other full guild pre-made higher division team win. The only way to salvage this in my opinion is to bring Solo Q button back. Let premades fight premades, and let people fight against people in thier own division.
I don’t want a team of 2 rubys 1 sapphire and 2 diamonds against a team of 3 diamonds and 2 legends. It’s nothing even remotely like fun but yet it happened a lot last season. This season doesn’t seem to be any different as I’m working my way through the divisions.
If thief gets an unblockable backstab, they should take away the caltrop/vault spamability. To make up for it
Im wondering why whenever there is an offset of division, i always end up with lower division on my team and have to fight a division above mine on enemy team. its not like it happens often…. it happens everytime often isnt a strong enough word. not one time have i had a division up on my side against a division down on the enemy team not even once… what did you guys do anet? mark me for death or something? put a flag on my account to put me in matchmaking hell until i give up n get a premade?
Season 2 was great for me, season 3 was a real pain. I had rubys and sapp against diamond and legend on my trip through diamond

with groups like this it has more than just familiarity with each other’s playstyles, they have voice communication which greatly enhances coordination, i can understand maybe a team of 2 on ts fighting solo Q but a full 5 man too much please bring back solo Q button

I’m not sure what all has changed on matchmaking this season but my 1st match for today was against a full mist initiative premade against pug solo Q…. not a good sign
…and again same team, guess ill have to use the old method of adding to friends list and not qing up till they are offline or in match. its sad to because i kill them 1v1 but of course with my team dropping like flies because they are fairly new, i rarely get to do that. Makes for an overall boring waste of time match. Anet is it that hard to separate solo Qers from extremely experienced premade teams?

Out of curiosity, for those who have already been skipped 3 divisions in initial placement before last season’s title was deactivated, will that make it impossible to get the new seasons title?
Yup i just tested it as well, it works with stability. Good catch, but I think anet should still fix, theres no reason that it shouldnt work without stab.
Rune Of The Krait (PvP) Doesn’t work with Head Butt, but does with Signet of Rage, I’ve tested both and havn’t been able to make it work at all with Head Butt.
Anonymous Player.3079, I don’t know what posts you are referring to as I don’t spend much time on the forums but I can testify to season two. I missed almost all of season one but I solo/duo queue’d my way to legend season two and had very even and very fun matches most of the way there. I can’t even remember one match up that was nearly as horrible as some of the average matches for season three. Right now I do three matches a day for daily to finish wings and then I play different games like Witcher 3 or 7 Days to Die. Matches this season have been a disappointment win or lose
Yet another very frustrating match up. In Diamond I was the only one on my team rest were ruby. The enemies had 4 Diamond and 1 ruby. This is an extreme example though, only happens about 25 percent of the time. Usually see it 3 times a day, but this poor matchmaking rarely works in my favor. Always the guy with less of my own division and never someone from a higher division as i have had to face in my enemy teams.
When I win despite this handi-cap, I’ll have a score of like 230 and the next highest up will be 110 followed by a few 50s. I’m not sure what I did to earn Arena Nets wraith but it must of been bad.
Tired of having to fight guild premades of a solid division with a division lower members on my team, anet we need an option to choose not to fight with or against people out of our division.
I just had a perfect example of the problem with this matchmaking system. I’m on a winning streak back into tier 3 diamond after dropping from tier 4 and that is ended by a premade group with 2 legends “high spots on the leaderboard ranger said one was number 1” and the rest diamond. My team all diamond 1 ruby. After one of our 2 rangers said that, I went after both hard starting in mid ending far and killed them. team was able to get a triple cap, but then I became the target as no matter what I did I had 3 on me most of the match and we lost. I had a score of like 210 next guy up was around 90 I think.
So lost my streak there. The next match was a premade balanced team against my 2 rangers again, a horrible thief, and an ele that tried to push 4 of mid solo while team was repawning. Loss 2
Next match, different pugs same premade. Same results but get this… 2 rangers again. One says its okay hes support I’m dps.. I don’t if you are dps, support, condi, or santa claus we dont need 2 rangers =( I have them on friends waiting for that whole mess to be in match before I Q
From what I’m seeing Arena Net need 2 rules,
1st) A division should only have to fight people in the same division. Don’t put a team of low-mid diamond and a ruby up against legends and diamond with players on top of the leaderboard, we should get a pip refund for that garbage.
2nd) Avoid putting multiple of the same class in a pug group, make sure each or neither gets an ele and no doubles.
In Sapphire and Emerald you can’t lose tiers which would make a losing streak limited in how much damage it could do to your progress overall. I’ve never been in either division very long but I’m sure you could use the same methods if having trouble. Say they keep matching you with bad players against good players, add both to friends and Q up after they are in. Ruby isn’t that bad either normally, I’ve had some bad match ups this season but its the 1st Division with real potential to keep a player grounded do to the loss of tiers.
As far as fighting a Division higher when you are close to crossing over, the matchmaking process looks for players up to 15 pips in either direction from you and increases the longer you are in queue. I do agree though that it should be limited to players in your Division however.
Usually us eastern after 8pm off and on through like 1am, 3 at the latest
It hasn’t denied me anything, just annoyed me to no end. I’m still making decent progress, I’m just forced to carry or lose. If I wasn’t smart enough to time my queues to avoid op premades or awful players, then it might look like a big red “DENIED” as you say. Still, I can understand why some might have given it up after some of the things I’ve seen.
Things wrong with season 3 matchmaking
1) Getting teamed with the same guys against the same opponents back to back to back. When you get a bad team facing a premade, you are stuck with it until you add all to friends and watch for them to get into a match before you queue.
2) Consistently putting solo queue players up against 3 or more man premades. Make players in premades fight players in premades it would be a longer queue for them but that’s a choice they can make if they want to go premade.
3) I consistently find myself in groups where i win every 1v1 and score the highest on team but my team loses every 1v1 and cant score at all. Getting amber skilled players in diamond is annoying so share the burden. Match people on a 5 game winning streak with people on a losing streak instead of having the same guy get the same amber quality players match after match.
4) Make skipping Divisions an option. I started my achievements toward the end of season two in earnest. I was placed in sapphire this season because I was in legend last, but playing through amber and emerald this season would of made my achievements much easier.
A few examples of the player types I’ve been getting. A necro says “No, im not going mid, ill die. No I wont cover home im going far” Match starts, she runs far and drops dead before team can even get to mid.
Soooo many thieves. A thieves roll is to decap/cap unguarded capture points, steal beast if in forest, assist and outnumber team fights, and catch enemies that try to run and heal. Basically what everyone knows about them. So very few of them do that, it fact I don’t see them do much at all except circle capture areas like they are lost and try to solo 2 players at a time every once in awhile.
Eles and or rev should give speed at the beginning of a match but dont. One Ele gave might to a slow moving group heading to mid at the beginning which wore of long before we arrived. Players like this have flooded diamond division and seem very hard to avoid.

Just fought a Diamond premade guild team with four Rubys and a Sapphire pug group. I played in all 3 seasons so far and only in this one have I seen matchmaking this bad.
The other night it continually put me against a different diamond premade on repeat. After the 3rd loss to the same group, I added a few to friends and waited for them to be in a match to Q up. Normally you see a guild group and think they are normally easy as they were in the past, not this season though.
This season screwed me over on the meta as well. By skipping amber and emerald it made it so I’ll have to get off main class wins at a higher tier. I hope Arena Net fixes this season and if not, I hope they do a much better job next season. Second season was much better than this, they should of left well enough alone
It could just be one giant tier 175 pips long, why not xD. I had a few rough moments getting to legend, but all in all its not like the hardest thing to do. I know people that can’t get out of emerald. I’ve taken some of them and Q’d up with them and took them to ruby using alt accounts. Would of went further but they were happy with ruby. I do feel for those who get stuck though and for them maybe the losing of tiers could be saved for only Legend Division players who are trying to repeat it for the leader boards.
Ruby and Diamond could have tiers 10-15 pips long to keep it from being too easy or too hard. Anyone who finds that too easy could just grind out legend division and lose/gain tiers as fate decides.
Losing divisions would just be annoying unless the rewards increased enough to reward the inconvenience. Even then though, bench marks like that are a point of accomplishment meant to be permanent.
For example, would you like to lose experience and mastery levels in pve if you get a bad raid group and die a lot? Ofcourse not, once you’ve achieved it you achieved it. “Well, if you are a good gamer you can earn those levels back and if you don’t want to re-earn them then you don’t belong in pve anyway” Sorry, just a stab at the comments I’ve read in this thread up until now. Sounds like someone trying way too hard to sound cool.
Really, there’s no need to break it up into divisions, tiers, and pips if there are no stable benchmarks in the process. It might as well just be a giant tier if that’s the case.
I was practicing rev in pvp against dragon hunter and every time that i would get surrounded by his longbow five barrier and used my sword three skill, it would put me in a form of spectate mode indefinitely. The bug happened every time consistently.
I made it to onyx on ele and necro as needed solo and duo queuing but it was so random with team skill. I went down to 9 pips diamond on a losing streak and from there to onyx with only 3 losses. The hours were U.S. eastern from around 6pm-9pm when I duo’d it was with a rev and I only ran the meta for each class. Hopefully that’s helpful.
@bird the team we went up against has Apex tag and were pretty good.
Another thing that can help for solo queueing though is when you do go up against a premade team add a few to friends list and avoid queueing up while they are in heart of the mist,
I’m about half way through diamond solo queue and from what I can see the balance still needs work. I just had a match vs a guild and it went horribly with my pugs running all over the map confused about what they should do as the guild team coordinated their movements on ts. To really have a balance we would need a solo queue option where only solo queue players can enter. It seems the deck will be stacked against solo queue players until this happens.
Yes, I could still get to onyx if I get decent teams and don’t hit strong premades too often, and other people have done so as well, its just been done at a great disadvantage and feels like to avoid this disadvantage you have to hunt down a decent team and make a premade yourself.
Its not just perma merches either, so making it so that only the summoner could see it wouldn’t work. The one on the nightmare chest today was a regular merch usable by anyone. I still think the best option would be to block anything that could block a chest from being spawned within a radius of it.
I did a search for this but nothing came up so I’m starting a new topic. Arena Net, could you please stop people from being able to block objects like chest (nightmare chest in silver-waste) with personal merchants. maybe make them non summonable within a radius of the object. Its very frustrating to not be able to get an earned reward because someone blocks it with a merchant and lures 1 hit wonder super dogs in to kill you as you try to figure out how to open it.
Yeah twilight, eternity etc i have those but there is no bow option that doesn’t seem set for a girl. Even for Sylvari, just because they are plant based doesn’t mean that flowers make the males look less feminine. There should either be neutral gender legendarys or one of each for each gender imo
Could we please get a legendary bow that doesn’t shoot unicorns dancing on rainbows or make us poop flowers wherever we walk. Not too picky just one that wouldn’t make my male toon seem “feminine, if that’s a safe word to use” for using it.
